Grape wine is not mentioned in our earliest texts from South Asia, the Vedas nor in the epics, yet these texts contain evidence of an established drinking culture based on grain and sugarcane liquors. When did grapes and wine appear in the Indic cultural world and how were they received? Previous scholarship has focused on peripheral, Hellenised, wine-producing regions, like Gandhāra, or on finds of Roman amphorae, thus emphasising possible influences on Indic drinking culture from regions to the West. This article explores wine from the Indian perspective. When did grapes and wine first appear in the Indic textual record and in what contexts? Why did people in India choose to import grape wine when they already had plenty of local drinks? Far from being passively Hellenised, Indic drinking cultures consciously adopted wine-as-foreign. The article considers how this prestigious, somewhat new drink was assigned a place in Indian drinking culture, as well as briefly exploring representations of wine from a grape-producing region, Kashmir. By the first millennium CE, wine was apparently the most prestigious liquor in South Asia, joining grain drinks, sugarcane drinks and betel to constitute a culture of recreational intoxicants that is distinctive in global drug history.

Indic loanwords in Chinese language account for the largest number of loanwords in Mandarin Chinese. These loanwords have become an important integral part of the lexicon of Chinese language and throughout decades have undergone assimilation, semantic extension and phonological adaptation. The present study is an investigation into the modes, levels and history of Sinicization of Indic loanwords in Chinese language. Fundamentally, it is evident from the literature and historical accounts that Sinicization of these loanwords is a process from foreignization to domestication. Native-Chinese doctrines and philosophies, essentially Taoism and Confucianism have had multifaceted influences on the Sinicization process which has resulted in semantic extension, semantic change or total diminution of original meaning. While less used high culture-sensitive loanwords have completely disappeared from modern Chinese, loanwords of higher Sinicization level have completely secularized. It is observed that foreignized loanwords have very less tendency of being absorbed into modern Chinese and many such terms have been excluded in modern Chinese dictionaries.

This article explores and analyses the charismatic leadership of M.K. Gandhi possessing the inspiring image in the Indian history. It concerns with the power of spirituality, knowledge of history and the self that gives people insights into life for the change and identification. Gandhi has been an icon who influences people to come up with dynamic-self. Being inspired by Leo Tolstoy and Buddha, Gandhi rightly understood the power of meditation, yoga, deep patience and incessant struggle that became the greatest weapon for him to uproot the tyrannical reign of the British from India. Based on Indic way; self, performance and rituals, the research explores and analyses the veiled fact of the sacrifices, passion and cognition of Gandhi, the body and its power. The performative body is acknowledged identical to the realized, knowledgeable and conscious body that helps people to understand the politics and the body of Gandhi that has been the synonymous of powerhouse and resourceful human power. Being vegetarian, truthful, sincere, obedient and revolutionary for the changes, Gandhi has been an inspiration and god man in India.

The fetus and fetal development were discussed in early imperial Chinese texts of various genres, which often approached these matters in one or more of the following terms: (1) the cosmic (human life begins and matures in the same way as the rest of the universe, following the interplay of yin and yang); (2) the correlative (the fetus grows according to the Five Phases, all things corresponding to them going through a cycle of changes that give rise to and diminish one another); and (3) the Indic-Buddhist (the fetus comes into being and suffers as a result of karma). These texts do not always present the perspective of the expectant parents on pregnancy; the perspective of the fetus on gestation in particular is prominent in the texts bearing Indic-Buddhist influences. This paper argues that over time the confluence of concepts and metaphors presented in these texts added up to an extremely negative attitude widely held toward the fetus and childbirth. This negativity in turn reinforced, and was reinforced by, the concepts and practices of filial piety that emerged in the centuries following the collapse of the Han dynasty, which were different from those that came before. It also profoundly transformed and enhanced the mother-child bond at the expense of that of the father and child. In particular, the salvational dimension of the mother-child relationship, introduced by Buddhism, made possible a women-centered interpretation of filial piety.

The Mekong River Delta has many archaeological sites dated from the first to seventh centuries CE. They include the Oc Eo site and more than ninety sites in the territory of Vietnam. Another site of the Oc Eo archaeological culture is Angkor Borei in Cambodia. The early first millennium remains also include ancient canals which connected Angkor Borei and Oc Eo as well as few other sites. The early Iron Age predates the beginning of the Oc Eo culture in the first centuries CE. The Iron Age witnessed the growing social complexity and settlement hierarchy. The paper is an overview of archaeological investigations in the Mekong River Delta. The paper shows the deep Indian or Indic influences on the material and religious life of the ancient populations of the Mekong Delta.

This paper examines, and refutes, the currently most popular hypothesis concerning the origin of Fanagalo, namely, that it arose on the plantation fields of Natal among indentured East Indian migrants who arrived there from 1860 onwards. Can a pidgin be initiated by a group of migrants from differing linguistic backgrounds in a plantation situation, and still remain in widespread use without showing any substrate influences? If the Indian origin hypothesis is correct, this would indeed be the case: a "crystallized" southern African Pidgin, stable for about a hundred years, would have been created in the sugar plantations of Natal by migrant indentured Indian workers without any tangible influences from any of the five or so Indic and Dravidian languages involved. However, structural and lexical evidence indicates otherwise. Written sources (a first-hand account by an English settler from about 1905, and two published accounts by an English missionary) suggest that the use of Fanagalo in Natal predated the arrival of Indian immigrants by at least ten years. Regarding the origins of Fanagalo, one other viable alternative is examined — the Eastern Cape in the early 1800s. The conclusion is that the most likely site for Fanagalo's genesis was Natal in the mid-nineteenth century.

One of the main issues that has been discussed in Indonesia regarding the democracy process in a modern world is about the feminism and gender issues. On the one hand, women are considered to play limited roles, whilst on the other hand, the men have always been considered to play a significant role. This can be traced back in the long process of the Balinese history not only in terms of political aspect, but also in the context of socio cultural aspects. It is important to look at what has happened in the Balinese societies, since Bali is known as a Hindu mozaic in Southeast Asia. The Balinese society has its own culture based on local culture that is strongly influenced by the Indian or Indic culture. The Balinese society is a patrilineal system, in which a man has a higher position, but in fact it was even Bali had a woman princess, who was of mixed Javanese and Balinese heritage, a wife of King Udayana of Bali between the 10th and 11th century. Both of them were considered as the Balinese kings at the same time. In the era of these two kings they were successful in integrating between Hinduism and Buddhism. Until now, the Balinese believe the soul of Mahendradatta as Durga. The main questions that will be addressed in this paper are firstly: how do the Balinese interpret the female deities? Secondly, how do they worship them? Thirdly, what is the meaning of this worship in terms of religious and cultural aspects in the modern and postmodern time? By discussing these issues, it is expected that we will have a better understanding on how the Balinese worship the female deities in the prehistoric, classical, and modern times in the context of a global or universal culture

There is a theory that explains the origins of Campā (Champa) by rendering a paradigm in which a kingdom referred to as Xi-Tu emerged in the Thu Bồn valley (a part of Quảng Nam Province today in central Việt Nam) around the 3rd century CE, and then absorbed the Lin-Yi kingdom by the end of the 6th century, resulting in what today is known as Champa. In contrast to this assumption, this paper uses both historical and archeological evidence to show that there was, in fact, no such a kingdom in the Thu Bồn valley in the 6th century. Instead, the evidence shows that from the beginning of the 4th century Lin-Yi conquered many small neighbouring kingdoms, including Xi-Tu (if it in fact existed). Champa, or Campā, was the Sanskrit name used by the ruling class of the Kingdom of Lin-Yi to refer to their territory (Lin-Yi is the name derived from Chinese historical documents). The discussions concerning the existence of Xi-Tu aim to clarify the nature of the birth of the polity with Indic influences located on the coast of Indochina,known as Champa. Determining the cradle of Champa, once known to be in the territory of Lin- Yi, could lead to a better understanding of the growth of this kingdom, with its unique historical and geographical background. With this in mind, the author would like to share his views on the issue, currently regarded as "a critical point in the historiography of Champa" (Taylor, 2021, 581).

In the era of digital marketing, social media influencers have emerged as powerful catalysts shaping consumer behaviour and brand perceptions. This study investigates the impact of Instagram influencers endorsed by Nike on consumer behaviour in India, focusing on brand perceptions, attitudes, purchase decisions, and brand loyalty. Through a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and content analysis, data was collected from 150 participants representing diverse demographic segments. Key findings reveal that exposure to Instagram influencers positively influences consumer perceptions of Nike, leading to improvements in brand familiarity, image, trust, purchase intent, loyalty, and perceived quality. Participants exposed to influencers demonstrated higher purchase intentions and were more likely to consider and purchase Nike products compared to unexposed participants. Additionally, Nike's influencer marketing strategies significantly contributed to fostering brand loyalty, with influencer engagement, brand authenticity, customer satisfaction, and loyalty programs emerging as key predictors. Content analysis of influencer posts revealed predominant themes such as product features, lifestyle imagery, user testimonials, and promotional offers, highlighting the diverse strategies employed by influencers to engage their audience and promote Nike products. Sentiment analysis of participant comments indicated predominantly positive sentiment towards influencer content, underscoring its effectiveness in eliciting favorable reactions from consumers. This study contributes to the literature by advancing theoretical understanding, providing methodological insights, and offering practical implications for marketers. Recommendations for future research include exploring cross-cultural variations, conducting longitudinal studies, employing experimental designs, and addressing ethical considerations in influencer marketing practices. By embracing these recommendations, researchers can further enrich our understanding of influencer marketing dynamics and its implications for brands and consumers in the digital age. Indic-Belt or the Greater India is the geographical region where Bharat’s knowledge tradition spread and influenced the local community in terms of language, culture, religions, practices and social values. Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia has been the region that received more Indic knowledge than any other parts of the world due to the easy accessibility to the land and sea routes. This Indic influence is visible in many art forms and folklore due to a long period of rules of Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms. This study aims at exploring the presence of Indic elements in Indonesian artworks, old buildings and folklore. This paper is based on a qualitative descriptive study in which the data was collected through literature study. The study found that Indian epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata have greatly influenced the literary tradition in Indonesia, as it was present in the forms of puppets, woodcrafts, painting and batik. In addition, Indonesian-present vocabulary ‘Esa’ (singular) to describe the concept of oneness of God came from the Sanskrit word ‘ish’ which was carried out by the Indic permeate to Indonesia. The study suggests that with such influence of Indic culture and tradition to Indonesia, both Indonesia and India shared similar heritage and hence steps to strengthen the cultural bonds between the two nations need to be built and maintained.

Influencer marketing is a kind of marketing across social media platforms involving endorsements, recommendations, support, and product placement from influencers. Influencers are usually people online that have a large following on social media and use this identity to influence the opinions and behaviours of their audience. Influencer marketing is a powerful tool to reach the people in this generation, and that can also be used to promote sustainable lifestyles and consumer behaviour. Influencers have the potential and effectiveness to alter consumer mindsets. When influencers promote sustainable products and practices, they can reach a large audience and positively impact the environment. Although the effectiveness of influencer marketing depends on some factors including the credibility and trustworthiness of the influencer, the content of the message given by them, and the target audience, the impact nevertheless is huge. This study uses a survey questionnaire to gather data on 200 consumers in India. The primary responses were collected all over India using a structured questionnaire consisting of questions to understand consumer behaviour, sustainability, and the role of an influencer marketer. It examines influencer marketing exposure, purchase behaviour, and brand perception. The review of literature for this topic focuses on the impact of influencer marketing on sustainable lifestyles and consumer behaviour between 2000-2023. There are certain challenges and ethical implications concerning influencer marketing that are explored in the paper, along with people's responses and acceptability towards a sustainable lifestyle. The empirical study also focused on the effectiveness of influencer marketing in promoting sustainable lifestyles and consumer behaviours. Influencer marketing can be a valuable tool for promoting sustainable lifestyles and consumer behaviour in this generation. Incorporating influencer marketing as a tool has two faces and it is essential to understand both aspects.

"An important figure of early 20th century music, the French composer Albert Roussel was deeply influenced by his encounter with India, which led to the composition of several orientalist works. The present paper aims to disclose the influences of classical Indian music in the orchestral work Evocations. Despite the Impressionist sound of the musical discourse, a careful analysis reveals the incorporation of several scalar structures in which Hindu rāgas can be recognized. Roussel goes beyond the musical representation of India: his goal is not the creation of a musical work with powerful oriental sound, but the evocation of the impact this encounter had on his creation. Situated at the crossroad of several stylistic orientations, Roussel incorporates Impressionist, Neo-classical and Post-romantic influences in rigorously devised structures, aiming to create an unusual and novel sound. This study also examines the one-of-a-kind political vision of Bose and the influences of social and political reformers, for example, Swami Vivekananda and Aurobindo Ghos on him. It also talks about the advancement of Bose's political ideology through the 1920's during his political apprenticeship under the All-India Bengali leader Chittaranjan Das whom he considered his political Guru. The study would further examine the assembly of Bose's ideas into a solid political ideology, influenced by Indian traditions and the influences of the dominant political belief systems of Fascism, National Socialism and Marxism on his thinking during his years of forced outcast in Europe in the 1930's. Bose's perspectives and arrangements on issues peculiar to India, the topic of caste and so forth are also talked about. This study examines Bose's dramatic escape from India during his home arrest by the British and his excursion from Kabul to Germany. The study analyses his failure in getting assistance from Germany and Russia for the liberation of India, which was his main aim when he had been estranged abroad in Europe during 1930's.

Objective: The objective of the research is to get in-depth knowledge regarding digital influencers in the field of B2B market place and explore different ways to develop synergies through bridging between influencers and business organizations in B2B sector. Method: For attaining the objective we have adopted qualitative approach. Here the total research work is exploratory in nature. We have explored popular B2B influencers of different social media platforms from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, USA, China and anylze their contribution towards the growth of different B2B sectors. Results and Discussions: Our research analysis shows that B2B influencers tend to possess certain personality traits that enable them to build credibility and forge connections and deliver tangible gains in traffic, leads, and sales KPIs of a brand, hence pointing towards an overarching positive ROI. Research Implications: The theoretical contribution of this study is the pragmatic understanding of influencer marketing in business to business market. Here we have reconnoitered the strategies of digital influencers which may help to grab more market share. Originality/Value: In light of managerial aspect, this study helps to comprehend significance of influencer marketing in B2B arena and the way of implementing strategies for attainment of organizational goals. We have also found certain metrics that may help managers to determine the concrete business impact of B2B influencer campaigns.

The paper is aimed to study the influence of religiosity on the behavior of buying sports apparel in the Muslim market segment of India. The data was collected from 1000 Muslim respondents from four states: Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. The paper has found that religion plays no role when Muslims buy sports apparel. They shop as any other religious person does. No other factor, even fashion and religious obligation, is influenced by religion, except for shopping enjoyment responsiveness, which is influenced by intrapersonal Islamic religiosity. The paper’s perspective in studying the religious influences will assist sporting apparel manufacturers to design new products that will meet the requirements of the large Muslim segment in India, which is neglected so far. It will help marketers to save their effort and energy which would be utilized for Muslim Population.

The purposes of this article are 1) To know the history of Indis culture and its development; 2) To know Malang Raya as the new city of the Dutch East Indies; 3) To determine the cross between Indies and Javanese cultures in Malang Raya.Dalam artikel ini memuat tentang perkembangan budaya Indis di Malang Raya yang berpengaruh pada kebudayaan masyarakat, khususnya pada bidang arsitektur. Castor (Ricinus communis L.) is a major industrial oilseed crop. Because of its numerous uses in the manufacturing of a wide range of industrial uses, castor oil has risen significantly in importance in the global economy. The study examined market integration in major Castor markets in India, including Dhanera, Patan, Kurnool, and Yemmiganur. The co-integration analysis conducted revealed a high level of market integration, as evidenced by the significant positive and negative values of weekly Castor prices across all markets. Unit root tests indicated that the markets were non-stationary, but became stationary when analyzed at the first difference. Further analysis using Johansen's tests identified three cointegrating equations among the markets. The results of the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) demonstrated long-term price influences between markets. Specifically, Dhanera was found to be influenced by its own price, as well as by prices in Patan and Yemmiganur. Patan, on the other hand, was influenced by its own price, as well as by prices in Dhanera and Yemmiganur. Additionally, Kurnool and Yemmiganur were influenced by prices in neighboring markets.

Out of the 100 largest companies listed in India in terms of market cap, more than 50 per cent are family managed. Indian family-managed companies have a distinct organisational culture. Organisational culture shapes and re-shapes people management, influenced by several factors—stage of evolution of the organisation, environmental/economic challenges and owner family culture. The way the owner family conducts itself embodies family governance. Family governance influences corporate governance. Human resource management (HRM) is an essential element of corporate governance. Nature of HRM in family-managed companies is significantly influenced by the way the owner family drives it. Some of the large Indian family-owned companies are consistently high on market cap because they are able to attract and retain the best talent. They can do this consistently because the best talent gets attracted to the best HR practices in an organisation. There is increased awareness of this among Indian owner families and they are now adopting world-class people practices to attract the best talent from the market. Soon we shall have many more Indian family-owned companies indistinguishable from western family-owned companies in terms of people practices.

Among the many attempts to explain mediumship psychologically at the turn of the century were the efforts of Swiss psychologist Théodore Flournoy (1854–1920). In his well-known book Des Indes à la Planète Mars (1900), translated as From India to the Planet Mars (1900), Flournoy analysed the mediumistic productions of medium Hélène Smith (1861–1929), consisting of accounts of previous lives in France and in India, and material about planet Mars. Flournoy explained the phenomena as a function of cryptomnesia, suggestive influences, and subconscious creativity, analyses that influenced both psychology and psychical research. The purpose of this Classic Text is to reprint the conclusion of Flournoy’s study, whose ideas were developed in the context of psychological attention to mediumship and secondary personalities.

The Eickstedt archive is an inventory of a German anthropologist’s perception of India of the 1920s through photographs and written accounts. His understanding forms the leitmotif of this reading of the archive, which as such is a reading along the grain. This article attempts to locate the archive’s rationale, which vacillates between expectations of the ‘primitive other’ and a rising racial anthropology. Exploring the relationship between the archive’s content and the context allows one to trace the intentions and preoccupations that influenced the archive, without neglecting the agency of the photographic subjects. Juxtaposing the archive and the published accounts as well as the related artefact collection further substantiates that the archive is constituted by the multiple influences of German anthropology of the 1920s, a conventional nationalism, and European orientalism.

This paper discusses how the culture of migration influences the aspirations of undergraduate students in Tamil Nadu. Migration aspirations among Tamil youths may be influenced by strong historical and contemporary migration culture. Data for this study were collected by conducting in-depth interviews with 30 undergraduate students in Chennai. Findings were divided into three main themes: career-focused versus marriage-focused plans after graduation; escaping gendered and hierarchical relationships; and having a US-born child. The findings show that male students tended to focus on career and family obligations while female students focused on marriage migration. This study shows that a culture of migration, family obligation and the influence of traditional gender roles influence youths’ migration dreams.

This study uses secondary data to inquire into how social media influences the preferences and buying behaviour of customers. Digital Financial Services (DFS) have been growing steadily all over the world. The COVID-19 crisis has reinforced the need for DFS. This study aims to examine the growth of DFS in the global and Indian markets and to analyze the factors that change the mindsets and attitudes of adults towards the adoption of DFS during the pandemic. The growth of DFS is analyzed using secondary data. The changing customer mindset is studied and analyzed through primary data collected by a survey approach. The unit of analysis includes adults who use or prefer to use DFS. A total of 384 respondents, determined by Krejcie and Morgan formula, were personally interviewed. 384 is taken as sample size as this sample size avoids type II errors in the data analysis. The collected data were processed in SPSS21 software. The study results found that technological benefits (67.9%) have the most significant positive effect on changing people’s mindsets and attitudes towards DFS followed by the pandemic forces (50.7%). Peer influences (33.2%) and perceived trust (38.3%) have also affected the change in mindsets and attitudes of adults regarding DFS. But the change in mindset is significantly and positively influenced by perceived risk (50.1%) rather than affecting negatively. So, the factors are confirmed again. The factors that drive changes in mindsets and attitudes of adults towards the adoption of DFS are Pandemic Forces & Convenience, Perceived Safety and Security, User Benefits and Experiences, Peer Influences, and Perceived Trust during the pandemic.

This article offers a historical analysis of the interdisciplinary question to what extent animal behaviour influences domestication, by exploring how socio-cultural representations of cows as mothers were shaped by perceptions of their maternal behaviours. It does so by providing an analysis of the evolution of dairying practices in both the colonial and vernacular sciences of modern India. Mother cow ( gau måtå) was imbibed with spiritual and material significance in the discourses of public health, food security and gastro-politics from the late nineteenth century. But to what extent were cultural representations influenced by the maternal behaviours of the cow? Analysing animal husbandry practices, it is shown here that in contrast to the Western tradition of segregating the mother from her calf, the maternal behaviours and emotions of Bos indicus zebu cows were perceived by many dairy farmers to be an evolved characteristic that needed to be nurtured.

"French composer and pianist Maurice Delage wrote several significant works inspired by his personal contact with the Orient. His travels to India inspired Delage to use innovative sound effects in his compositions, as well as to require his performers to adapt their vocal or instrumental technique to obtain the sound desired by the composer. His representation of the Orient is not a mere evocation of the Other, as is the case with most orientalist works, rather it reflects the composer’s desire to endow Western music with the purity, strength, and vivid colors which he discovered and admired in Indian music. The present paper presents the historical and artistic background which inspired and influenced Delage, the relationship between France and India in the early 20th century and reveals the composer’s idealistic point of view regarding India, its culture, and its music. The analysis focuses on the mélodie cycle Quatre poèmes hindous, composed between 1912 and 1913, striving to reveal the Indian influences in the work of Delage and the way orientalism is represented in French music from the first decades of the 20th century. Srinivas’s articles and books covering a wide range of subjects from village studies to nation building, from dominant caste in Rampura village to nature and character of caste in independent India, and from prospects of sociological research in Gujarat to practicing social anthropology in India have largely influenced the understanding of society and culture for well over five decades. Additionally, he meticulously wrote itineraries, memoirs and personal notes that provide a glimpse of his inner being, influences, ideologies, thought all of which have inspired a large number of and social anthropologists and sociologists across the world. It is then only befitting to explore the major concerns in the life and intellectual thought of one whose pioneering contributions have been the milestones in the fields of social anthropology and sociology in a specific sense and of social sciences in India in a general sense. This article centres around/brings to light the academic concerns that Srinivas grappled with the new avenues of thought and insights that developed consequently, and the extent of his rendition their relevance in framing/understanding contemporary society and culture in India.

Abstract: This empirical study investigates the complex relationship between gold prices and inflation in India, a country where gold is deeply entrenched not only as an economic asset but also as a cultural symbol. Recognizing gold's unique position in the Indian context, this research explores how global economic trends and domestic cultural practices converge to influence gold prices. The study utilizes examining key economic indicators such as crude oil prices, exchange rates, trade and fiscal deficits, and their interplay with gold prices. Employing unit root tests like KPSS and Ng-Perron, followed by Johansen’s cointegration analysis and Granger causality tests, the research uncovers significant long-term equilibrium relationships and directional influences among these variables. The findings reveal the multifaceted nature of gold in India, influenced by both global economic conditions and socio-cultural factors, offering insights crucial for policymakers and investors alike. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the gold market in India, highlighting its role as an inflation hedge and its cultural significance, thereby enriching the broader discourse on gold in the global economic landscape.

India has experienced extensive land cover and land use change (LCLUC). However, there is still limited empirical research regarding the impact of LCLUC on climate extremes in India. Here, we applied statistical methods to assess how cropland expansion has influenced temperature extremes in India from 1982 to 2015 using a new land cover and land use dataset and ECMWF Reanalysis V5 (ERA5) climate data. Our results show that during the last 34 years, croplands in western India increased by ~33.7 percentage points. This cropland expansion shows a significantly negative impact on the maxima of daily maximum temperature (TXx), while its impacts on the maxima of daily minimum temperature and the minima of daily maximum and minimum temperature are limited. It is estimated that if cropland expansion had not taken place in western India over the 1982 to 2015 period, TXx would likely have increased by 0.74 (±0.64) °C. The negative impact of croplands on reducing the TXx extreme is likely due to evaporative cooling from intensified evapotranspiration associated with croplands, resulting in increased latent heat flux and decreased sensible heat flux. This study underscores the important influences of cropland expansion on temperature extremes and can be applicable to other geographic regions experiencing LCLUC.

The advent of SMIs has primarily altered the means business connect with their prospects and customers. Currently, many SNSs enables SMIs to endorse the products, share opinions, provide feedback, and communicate with their followers either publicly or privately. This research aims to determine the mediating effect of loyalty of followers towards the influencer and ascribed opinion leadership on SMIs dimensions (expertise, trustworthiness, and attractiveness) and purchase intention relationship from the perspective of Instagram users in India. To measure the objective, the study acquired responses from 250 Indian Instagram users in the age group of 18-24. Results indicated that the purchase intention of followers is positively influenced by expertise, trustworthiness, ascribed opinion leadership, and loyalty of followers towards the influencer dimensions. Here, ascribed opinion leadership and loyalty of followers towards the influencer acts as an effective arbitrator between SMIs dimensions (expertise, trustworthiness, and attractiveness) and purchase intention relationship. The study suggests that before engaging SMI to promote the brand, the companies should understand the perception of followers towards the influencer in terms of expertise, attractiveness, and trustworthiness dimensions.

Since the development of the Ayurvedic holistic science more than 5000 years ago, India has had a strong standard for medical ethics. Ancient guidelines for medical practise serve as the foundation for modern ideas about healthcare policy, advice on how to interact with patients, and expectations for professional conduct. These "codes of conduct" placed a strong emphasis on the sanctity of life and went beyond satisfying physical requirements. They were greatly influenced by religious and spiritual rituals. But as time went on, changes in educational priorities and political influences influenced how medical care was provided. While malpractice concerns have continuously increased, references to these once-cherished "rules of conduct" have decreased. A candid conversation about the reasons for the rise in medical misconduct in a nation that used to condemn it and how improving ethics, limiting the role of profits, and returning traditional philosophies to the medical ethics curricula could help.

Chhattisgarh in central India, a hilly and forested region, offered passages connecting the Gangetic basin with the Deccan, which opened it to influences from both the north and the Deccan. This made possible a secondary stage of state formation, marked by royalty, bureaucracy and army, with offices and practices influenced by those in vogue in the established states in the surrounding regions. The paper examines the process in the light mainly of epigraphic evidence. Such state formation created superior landed classes, mainly through land grants. The dynastic rulers patronised Vishnavism and Śaivaism, which were Brahmanical intrusions into the area, rather than any local deities or cults.

Being a part of a larger territory in yester centuries, the country is influenced heavily by external factors and deliberated efforts for “modernization” since after a decade of independence in 1947. Many parts of the subcontinent including India and Pakistan are influenced by Modernist trends in architecture that are evident in the built environment. The probability of inclusion of many diversified attributes of culture over a considerable period of time has been increased. It is therefore important to discuss the most relevant possibilities through which these influences were adopted and then were translated in the built environment. These influences are assumed to be translated through the taught content in the architectural education in the country.
The paper also discusses the relationship of three entities; Culture, Built Environment and Architectural Education. It takes into account some examples of residences from Pakistan to analyze the interfacing capacity of culture and built environment. It adopts the methodology of qualitative study through literature and evidences from some cities of Pakistan to seek the validity of argument. It also relates the role of curriculum driven architectural education in the process of built environment. The findings reveal that the existing form of culture has grasped external influences in a subtle manner adopting a new form which appears as non-coherent to the generally perceived one. The role of architectural education in this regard holds a pivotal position in relation to the built environment. The findings established also connote architectural education as the interfacing factor of culture and built environment.

The drafting of a constitution is a complex consultative process. No country, including the United States and India, can claim that its constitution was entirely the original creation of its draftsmen. Framers of constitutions are inspired and influenced by a variety of sources from ancient and modern forms of government and laws. The 1957 Malayan federal constitution drafted by the Reid commission was no exception. While it is known that the drafting of the Malayan (now Malaysian) constitution was influenced by Commonwealth constitutions, the extent of this influence has remained unclear. This article reveals through a close scrutiny of the primary constitutional documents that the framing of the Malayan constitution was mainly influenced by three connected yet varied sources of constitutionalism. Their influences can be discerned at two inter-related levels. At the first level, it is clear that the underlying constitutional principles which formed the foundations of the Malayan constitution were largely based on English constitutionalism and principles of Common law. At the second and more visible level, this article reveals that the drafting of the Malayan constitution was largely influenced by two contemporary Commonwealth constitutions which served as the main reference templates for the framing of the articles.

PurposeWhile English is the most commonly used language for market research, surveys and customer feedback in India, it does not reach the subcontinent’s entire population. Therefore, many questionnaires are bilingual, offering the respondent a choice between English and an indigenous Indian language. This, however, presupposes that answers to items are not influenced by people’s language proficiencies and response styles in different languages. This paper aims to examine whether market researchers in India should be careful about nonrandom measurement error caused by language response bias. Design/methodology/approachEnglish and Kannada questionnaires are administered in a test-retest scenario to 160 respondents in the Indian Tier-II city of Mysore. The data evaluation is organized by dispositional (language proficiency in English and Kannada) and situational influences (language of the questionnaire in English or Kannada); a series of tests to elucidate language response bias is conducted. FindingsWhile the significance of the two-tailed English-Kannada paired-sample tests is borderline, a more detailed look reveals surprising differences for the dispositional as well as situational linguistic influences. Moreover, the response style peculiarities in the Indian multilingual environment are not always consistent with differences in other international bilingual environments. Originality/valueHigh-quality data are central to all empirical research, but situational and dispositional language response bias seems to contaminate questionnaires in the Indian multi-lingual environment. This study highlights the effect and provides Indian market researchers with some first strategies for managing the challenge.

The contemporary omnipresence of independent regulatory authorities (IRAs) as formidable structures of governance in different countries has long intellectual roots that helped in their evolution over a period of time. Though such intellectual traditions might have been found in every country, they appear to be more pronounced and definite in the countries where the idea of independent regulatory bodies has been originated and practised more fundamentally than others. In this context, America and India stand out prominently for obvious reasons. For instance, they represent two distinct political systems in which certain variations in intellectual traditions of independent regulatory bodies may be discerned. Further, while the intellectual traditions in America seem to be relatively autonomous vis-à-vis external influences, such traditions in India have surely been influenced by the long years of colonial rule that laid the foundation of the post-independence politico-administrative system of the country. This article seeks to present an analytical study of the intellectual roots of independent regulatory bodies in the two countries in a comparative perspective.

Farmers usually do not know the precise output that is affected by climatic factors such as temperature and rainfall and are characterized by inter-annual variability, part of which is caused by global climate change. No study covers the influences of climate factors on yield and yield risk in the context of chickpea farming in Andhra Pradesh, India. In this context, this study aimed to investigate the trends in climate change variables during Rabi season (October to January, 1996-2020) and evaluated their variability on chickpea yields across different agro-climatic zones in Andhra Pradesh by employing Just and Pope production function. Four non-parametric methods-Alexandersson’s Standard Normal Homogeneity Test, Buishand’s Range Test, Pettitt’s Test and Von Neumann’s Ratio Test are applied to detect homogeneity in the data. Mann–Kendall (MK) test and Sen’s slope (SS) method were employed to analyze monthly rainfall trends and minimum and maximum temperature trends. Results of Just and Pope (panel data) quadratic and Cobb-Douglas methods revealed that monthly minimum temperature positively influenced the mean yield of chickpea (0.22% and 0.16%, respectively). However, rainfall (-0.41% and -0.31%) and maximum temperature (-0.08% and -0.04%) negatively influenced the mean yield of chickpea under quadratic and Cobb-Douglas models, respectively. Accordingly, rainfall (0.08% and 0.06%) and maximum temperature (0.83% and 0.72%) positively influenced the yield variability and minimum temperature (-0.77% and -0.67%) reduced yield variability of chickpea under quadratic and Cobb-Douglas models respectively. In view of these findings, it is imperative to advocate the farmers about the importance of cultivating drought-tolerant chickpea varieties, drought-proofing and mitigation strategies, micro-irrigation practices and improving their access to agro-meteorological information towards sustainable chickpea cultivation in Andhra Pradesh.

The literature review of previous studies and the analysis of observations and knowledge gathered in Africa, as well as regional experience in Brazil, India and Australia on the influences of texture, grain size distribution and mineralogy conditions on the stability of materials used in pavement base have shown that the mechanical behaviour of lateritic soils is strongly influenced by their physical and mineralogical properties, we argue in this article that development of new procedures for classification of these soils as new building materials, that consider appropriate designs for the humid tropics and the nature and state parameters associated with the mechanical behaviour, can broaden the use of a higher percentage of local soils in pavement layers for low cost road compared to traditional techniques.

Thematic analysis of their narratives indicated the influence of HIV concordance and discordance on the spousal relationship, sexual functioning, family formation, care and support, and the future of the family. As consumer interest in wellness and health continues to rise, functional beverages have gained popularity. However, the specific characteristics of social media health influencers (SMHIs) that affect consumers’ willingness to buy these products, particularly in relation to health consciousness, remain relatively unexplored. Motive of the study is to examine the influence of SMHIs on consumers’ intention to purchase functional beverages in the presence of health consciousness. Conceptual framework of the study was built upon the Social Learning Theory and the Theory of Planned Behaviour and the survey conducted in Northern India, involving 360 participants. The structural model analysis reveals noteworthy associations between the attributes of social media health influencers (namely, expertise, attractiveness, and trustworthiness) and consumers’ willingness to buy functional beverages. Moreover, study highlights that the impact of trustworthiness on purchase intention is moderated by the level of health consciousness among consumers. However, it was observed that health consciousness did not significantly moderate the relationship between expertise and attractiveness with purchase intention. Marketers can leverage the finding by strategically choosing influencers who possess desirable qualities, thereby increasing the persuasiveness and effectiveness of their promotional campaigns. Study reinforces the notion that consumers are highly influenced by the content and recommendations presented by influencers.

"The current paper strives to discover and reveal the influences of Indian culture and classical Indian music in French operas. At first, the evocation of India was obtained through the subjects of the operas and stunning scenic designs, fulfilling the requirements of exoticism. Gradually, the composers attempted to include in their musical discourses exotic rhythmic and melodic elements, in some instances inspired by Indian classical music, thus aiming to evoke a genuine image of India. At the same time, the use of elements pertaining to Indian music (rāgas, rhythmic patterns, timbres) offered the musicians the possibility to create novel sound discourses. The analysis focuses on several operas, composed between the eighteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, following the evolution of Indian representations in several dimensions: dramatic (libretto), visual (scenic representations, dance), and musical (melody, rhythm, timbre). The present paper investigates the way Indian themes influenced the conception of the libretto, and at the same time the visual dimension of the works (setting, costumes), observing how these visual elements were gradually absorbed into the musical discourse (analysis of the melodic structures), through the incorporation of Indian rāgas in works conceived according to the rules of Western music composition. The India-Pakistan relationship is shaped by internal and external variables – which form very complex interactions between the two. Externally, both countries are influenced by multiple factors which shape their foreign policies – the geopolitics of South Asia is the major one. However, another important factor in the relationship between the two nations and a source of great tension between the two of them is the persistence influence of the ‘realist school’. This school of thought, holds that nations are rivals and will only seek their own interests at the costs of those of their neighbors. This theory of international relations holds that countries such as India and Pakistan need to compete with each other, especially militarily. This paper will focus on the geopolitical factors which shape India-Pakistan relations in contemporary times – how the geostrategic culture is shaping the relationship of both South Asian neighbors in bringing more distrust, and an antagonized sense of insecurity and mistrust. This article will analyze the geopolitical settings and related factors – bilateral nuisance such as Kashmir, wars and other border disputes; regional factors such as China, Afghanistan – and geopolitical interests of both nations. This research can lead to a better understanding of the strategic culture of the region which greatly influences the relationship between India and Pakistan. This research examines the negative impact of the ‘realist school’ on the relationship between Pakistan and India and indicates that only a change in the political culture of both nations can lead to peaceful co-existence.

From the 1980s, Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) shows a decreasing trend over north and northwest India, and there was a significant observed reduction in July over central and south India in 1982–2003. The key drivers of the changed ISMR, however, remain unclear. It was hypothesized that the large-scale irrigation development that started in the 1950s has resulted in land surface cooling, which slowed large-scale atmospheric circulation, exerting significant influences on ISMR. To test this hypothesis, a fully coupled model, the CESM v1.0.3, was used with a global irrigation dataset. In this study, spatially varying irrigation-induced feedback mechanisms are investigated in detail at different stages of the monsoon. Results show that soil moisture and evapotranspiration increase significantly over India throughout the summertime because of the irrigation. However, 2-m air temperature shows a significant reduction only in a limited region because the temperature change is influenced simultaneously by surface incoming shortwave radiation and evaporative cooling resulting from the irrigation, especially over the heavily irrigated region. Irrigation also induces a 925-hPa northeasterly wind from 30°N toward the equator. This is opposite to the prevailing direction of the Indian summer monsoon (ISM) wind that brings moist air to India. The modeled rainfall in the irrigated case significantly decreases up to 1.5 mm day−1 over central and north India from July to September. This paper reveals that the irrigation can contribute to both increasing and decreasing the surface temperature via multiple feedback mechanisms. The net effect is to weaken the ISM with the high spatial and temporal heterogeneity.

The study attempts to explore the Ghadar Movement, a pivotal revolutionary organisation in the early 20th century that played a significant role in India's struggle for independence. It aims to understand the socio-political origins of the Movement, to analyse its key figures and strategies, to assess its impact on Indian nationalism, and to evaluate its global impact and enduring legacy. The study employs a historical and analytical methodology, using primary and secondary sources to gather data, which is then interpreted and contextualised. In-depth examination of archival documents revealed the influences of colonial oppression, global events, and the sentiments of the Indian diaspora in igniting the Ghadar Movement. The study identifies key figures, their motivations and the strategies they employed, such as direct revolts and protests, as well as indirect approaches like propaganda and international networking. The research finds that the Ghadar Movement significantly influenced the rise of Indian nationalism and other revolutionary movements, shaping the course of India's freedom struggle. It also managed to garner notable international support, leaving a lasting impact beyond India's borders. It finds that the movement though unsuccessful in its immediate goals, left an indelible legacy in post-independence India, influencing its socio-political fabric and contributing to the narrative of India's struggle for independence.

Abstract Background Tobacco and areca-nut use among adolescents has been reported from different parts of India. Multiple factors influence initiation of tobacco use among adolescents. Initiation of one product gradually extends to multiple products. Studies on initiation lack documentation of the pathways and experiences post-initiation, which is required to holistically understand behavior patterns of adolescents for planning timely intervention. This study was conducted to trace pathways and identify factors influencing the initiation and continuation of tobacco and areca-nut among adolescents. Methods In this two-staged study, we conducted 14 focus group discussions (FGDs) with 166 adolescents studying in grades 7–9 (11–18 years) from six municipal schools in Mumbai, India. They had self-reported areca-nut or smoked or smokeless tobacco (SLT) use. Pathways of initiation were traced through in-depth interviews for 60 adolescents. Results Four multi-linear pathways of use were identified: (1) areca-nut only, (2) areca-nut to tobacco, (3) initiation with SLT, and (4) initiation with smoking. Raw or sweetened areca-nut, betel leaf, gutka, masheri, mawa, hookah, cigarette, bidi, and e-cigarettes were products reported to be used. Curiosity, easy access to tobacco products and normalization of tobacco use influenced initiation. Areca-nut acted as a precursor to tobacco use. Conclusion Tracing pathways in tobacco use helped to understand reasons for initiation, influences in continuation of use, and experiences of significance to the adolescents. Experiences of adolescents play a critical role in shaping the pathways of tobacco use. Understanding the pathways and influencers will further help to build effective health promotion communication, policies for sale to minors, and school-based cessation interventions. Implications Findings of the study provide an insight into unknown areas of information regarding products used by adolescents, their patterns of consumption, perceptions, and their pathways of initiation and continuation of primary and secondary products. This will help in developing specific public health awareness messages, policies regarding packaging and sale of areca-nut to children and interventions targeted for the adolescents and their specific products of use not just in India but for the South-East Asia region as areca-nut and tobacco use among adolescents is common in the region. The exercise of tracing the pathways provides basis for cessation counseling among adolescents.

ObjectivesHow well patients adhere to their tuberculosis (TB) treatment influences their recovery and development of drug resistance, but influences on adherence are multiple and often competing. We synthesised qualitative studies from our setting in the Indian subcontinent to understand the dimensions and dynamics involved to help inform service provision.DesignQualitative synthesis comprising inductive coding, thematic analysis and forming a conceptual framework.Data sourcesMedline (OVID), Embase (OVID), CINAHL (EBSCOHost), PsycINFO (EBSCOHost), Web of Science Core Collection, Cochrane Library and Epistemonikos were databases searched on 26 March 2020 for studies published since 1 January 2000.Eligibility criteria for selecting studiesWe included reports in English from the Indian subcontinent that used qualitative or mixed-methodology designs and reported findings around adherence to TB treatment. Full texts meeting eligibility were sampled based on ‘thickness’ (the richness of the qualitative data reported).Data extraction and synthesisTwo reviewers used standardised methods to screen abstracts and code. Included studies were assessed for reliability and quality using a standard tool. Qualitative synthesis was performed by inductive coding, thematic analysis and developing conceptual framework.ResultsOf 1729 abstracts screened from initial search, 59 were shortlisted for full-text review. Twenty-four studies that qualified as ‘thick’ were included in the synthesis. Studies were set in India (12), Pakistan (6), Nepal (3), Bangladesh (1) or in two or more of these countries (2). Of the 24 studies, all but one included people who were taking TB treatment (1 study included only healthcare providers), and 17 included healthcare workers, community members or both.We identified three themes: (1) personal influences on the people with TB include interconnections between their social role in the family unit, their own priorities in day-to-day living and their experience to date with the disease; (2) adherence is profoundly influenced by how individual healthcare providers interact with patients on treatment and address their needs; (3) adherence is influenced across communities by structural, social, economic and cultural factors related to treatment.ConclusionStaff in TB programmes require an understanding of the various competing influences on individuals undergoing treatment. Programmes need to have more flexible and people-centred approaches to service provision in order to achieve adherence, and thus improve treatment outcomes.PROSPERO registration numberCRD42020171409.
