Texto completo da fonteThe theory of intersectionnality - resulting from « Black feminism » - is a precious concept to analyze the domination experienced by the « métis » characters as intersectionnal experiments in which power struggles based on race, sex and class are inextricably mixed. Incarnating interracial relations perceived as essentially violent the mestizo/mulatto characters are interpreted by a society which tries to subsume them into preset racial and sexual categories. This crispation of the thought is what we are interested in.Key words: postcolonial studies; genre/gender; sexualities; queer theory; mestizaje/ miscegenation; identity; intersectional analysis

This manifestation of homophobia is considered to be discrimination not only against lesbians, but also against all women who practice sport, whatever their sexual orientation. During interviews with female players of handball, football and rugby, the existence of stereotypes and negative perceptions were confirmed. As a result, a study of how to respond to the negative perceptions is underway
Tarnovski, Flávio Luiz. "Être père et homosexuel dans la France contemporaine". Paris, EHESS, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010EHES0384.
Texto completo da fonteUntil recently, homosexuality and fatherhood were considered as contradictory experiences. The last decades have been marked by a progressive visibility of lesbian and gay families who claim the right to be fully recognized. In the social debate, gay and lesbian parenthood generate apprehensions regarding the future of the institution of marriage and descent. Universality and "necessity" of sex difference are often put ahead to justify banning homosexual couple of adoption or filiation. From interviews made with homosexual fathers showing various family shapes, such as blended families after a divorce, adoption, surrogacy or co-parenting, this thesis intends to comprehend the emergence of gay families, by restoring them in the sociopolitical and community network context of contemporary France. Analysis of meaning given to the desire to have children, to the circumstances under which the parental project took place, and to the various modes of articulation between procreation, couple relationship and parenthood entitle to emphasize continuities and transformations in the area of contemporaries' familial relationships. Beyond the opposition between biological and non biological parenthood, homosexual parents claims question legal fictions based on heterosexuality and procreation, revealing that sexuality and gender are the heart of kinship

Texto completo da fonteIn psychoanalysis clinical practice, the sexual always is confronted to gender's issues ; gender as social sex butalso as a discursive category producing sexed body and questionning a particular time's subjectivity. We haveinvestigated those questions from the perspective of norms, taking into account its incorporation and attachment inthe identification process. This will involve thinking about the concept of “sexual difference” theorical and politicalshortcomings, in order to propose a clinical approach that takes into account social changes related to sexuality and toinvent new ways to « do politics ». The fetichization of sexual difference, it seems to me, is a obstacle to theoreticaland clinical work's advancement. My daily clinical practice as a clinical psychologist in the hospital urologydepartment, where I see people suffering in their sexuality, opened upfor me the benefits of a multidisciplinaryapproach, particulary in gender and feminist studies. These ones appeared to me allowing psychoanalysis to remain acritical perspective of the norms, seen as a “grammar of subjectivation” ; allow also to investigate the link betweenmodes of submission, desire of norms and sexual suffering, and lastly to be able to hear the complaint, the symptom,as a singularity, a resistance to social norms. The approach of the sexual difference seen from the gender perspectiveopen up for psychoanalysis new configurations of desire, symbolic, power and sexuation, allowing a differentarticulation of the individual and collective, of the social actor and the unconscious. We may attain a psychoanalyticalapproach that doesn't see as pathology, gender, sex and sexuality's configurations which contest the binary conceptionof sexual difference and its assignations, withing the central question, the political treatment of “ difference”

In a first part, called: "female body in the sexual strategies from islam, this thesis attempts to lighten all the question which concern the conflict between the individual and the group in a muslim society which is socially and economically evoluting. In a second part, "social mobility and new sexual identities: self asser tions or ambivalence", two main dimension from men and women's lives are examined, love life-affective and obstentations seduction. We are trying to see how women fulfill themselves in their love life in a muslim space which favours sexual discrimination? Is the love encounter between the different sexes a mean to spring up women's instrinsic worth, or, is the love encounter an incident which provokes doubt, distrust? The last chapter deals with seduction as a way to take the power in the affective field as a blackmail and in the social field as an ostentatious higher bid in social strategies

Texto completo da fonteOur study on Angela Carter aims at showing how she put in her fictional writings the ideas defended as a committed female writer. Her metaphorical writing has been studied here in its transexuality and transtextuality, mainly in the collections Burning your Boats (her collected short stories) and Shaking a Leg (her non-fictional writings). Myths of all kinds have killed the true nature of our beings instilling and crystallizing in us stereotyped images of ourselves. So, we analyse here the different representations women are supposed to embody and the way Angela Carter demythologized these conceptual images created by a patriarcal order to maintain women into submission. Beyond the social and grotesque performance of sexual oppositions, we suggest that language can be used as a performative weapon to create new visions of women and men. Consequently, relationships can thus be approached, no longer through frustration, but through a more genuine and personal desire. We should be the creators of our narrative identities

Texto completo da fonteActivism is a social activity that is gendered. Gender is not only “imported” into political organizations: it is also produced within them. In this thesis, I aim to analyze the gendered structuration of activism in six voluntary associations. To conduct this analysis, I proceed through a double comparison: a comparison between three kinds of associations (feminist associations, human rights movements and catholic families associations), and a comparison between two countries, France and Portugal. This comparative analysis shows that the gendered structuration of activism is produced through many processes. In order to understand these processes, one has to take into account the activists’ social characteristics, their socialization, their representations of themselves and of the forms of political participation that “fit” them, the organizations’ internal dynamics and the way in which these organizations conceptualize gender. Although these associations are very different from one another, I shed light on several transversal processes through which we can understand how gender is produced by activism
França, Marina. "Intérêts, sexualité et affects dans la prostitution populaire : le cas de la zone bohème de Belo Horizonte". Paris, EHESS, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011EHES0488.
Texto completo da fonteThis Ph. D is an analysis of the female sex work in the "Bohemian zone", a red-light district of low-level prostitution in downtown Belo Horizonte (Brazil). Starting from an ethnographic work and formal interviews, it examines the relationship in the hotels between sex workers and clients and compares them to those in other spaces of prostitution in the same city as well as in the Bois de Boulogne (Paris, France). Beyond sexual work, prostitutes must invest in the relationship with clients and develop commercial and emotional skills. In the Bohemian zone, most of the services are impersonal and repeat a standard model of verbal exchanges and sexual practices. However, some contacts engage more emotional interactions and sometimes even a transformation of the link. This work analyzes the intermingling between affects, economic transactions and sexuality in sex work. This is then analyzed in parallel with the private relationships of the prostitutes and, to a lesser extent, with those of the clients. The social context, working situations and love ties of sex workers are important to clarify the phenomenom of prostitution, as well as gender relations in working class groups. Also, the values they assign to sexuality and sex acts are revealed by sex workers through narratives about the client's sexual requests, about what they accept to do or not to do and of their own pleasures

Texto completo da fonteThis research which has been done on 800 subjects ages 8 to 85 deals with : 1) the evolution depending on age and sex of self-representation linked to internality, and to masculinity feminity. 2) the effects of the self-representation on the judgment of deviant behaviour. It is noted that, with age, the self-attribution of feminine characteristics increases at the expense of the masculine just as an increase, then a decrease of internality (the two registers of internality, the one concerning the positive reinforcements and the other concerning the negative reinforcements which are unconnected to begin with). Moreover, the subjects having unisexual self-perception (feminine or masculine), or internal self-perception, adopt extremely negative judgments towards deviant behaviour. We have also examined the effects of revealing of sex-type on self-representation and judments. Finally, we show the dynamic aspect (which connot be reduced to social group) and which is socio-normative of internality and of masculinity feminity

Texto completo da fonteWhat is a feminine identity and what is a sexual identity? This question was widely discussed in order to settle on a precise definition in the light of different approaches such as sociology, psychoanalysis and epistemology. This fad towards the identity concept keeps growing to be a fashion trend. Nevertheless, besides its moving nature, constantly changes its outlines and criteria. The notion of identity is formed according to social and political contexts proper to each society but more importantly to their use by the individual. Thus, along with this identity ferment, we wanted to analyze a set of self-narratives both motley and heterogeneous at the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The first objective behind this study is to highlight the diversity of women’s writings but also highlight the recursive identity building process through the different approaches used to focus on multiple and federating social contexts in the studies pieces. The multidisciplinary method allowed a permeability to the literature by shifting it further from a holistic to an open and democratic one

Texto completo da fonteAs it indicates the socially acceptable expression of sexuality, a society's sex education reflects its choices in terms of social organization of sexuality. The purpose of this thesis consists in a sociohistorical (from the beginning of the 20th Century to our times) and sociocultural comparative analysis of sex education methods and theories in France and in Sweden, in order to identify the social conceptions of gender and sexuality that they convey. The analysis of the content of numerous sex education media in addition to interviews with resource people, will allow us to define the characteristics of both countries in this particular field. While sex education still remains everywhere widely reliant on individual will, the methods used in Sweden turns out more structured and supported than they are in France : critical problematization of gender and heteronormativity doesn’t exist in France's take on sex education, while it's slowly turning up in official texts in Sweden, under the impulse of associations and academics. Yet, in the absence of any critical reflection on gender and heteronormativity – observed in France and, in a lesser way in Sweden – the conception of sexuality spread about by sex education is biologizing (focusing on reproduction), associating sex with being in love (norm of the couple and love), negative (focusing on risks), differentialist (men and women presented as complementary) and heteronormative. Parts of the analysis will focus on alternative methods, inclusive pedagogy and norm-critical pedagogy, both developed in Sweden and implemented in the field of sex education

Texto completo da fonteOur study is based on the analysis of professorial judgement in PE from school marks and school report comments. According to sociology of curriculum (Forquin, 1989), the theories of reproduction (Bourdieu & Passeron, 1970) and a constructivist view of sex (Constantinople, 1973/1986 ; Beni, 1978/1986), we try to reveal mechanisms of professorial judgement production in physical education. We specially investigate effects of sex, gender, social origins, by analysing an elite high-school. Our results show significant effects on school marks and school report comments. Those bias seem to exist in PE and in every disciplines. We think there is a masculine hidden curriculum, which favour some high schooler in the studied institution

Texto completo da fonteI accomplished my field work in the village called al Miqdar, situated in the Ḥuğariyah region (close to Taiz city). The Ph. D. Is dealing with the changing of sexed relationship in a rural context from 1930 till nowadays. The transformations are studied through the occupation of spaces by the males and females, grid for an anlysis to shed a light on the mutations in terms of roles and representations sexed. To lead such work, I interviewed men and women and I submitted myself to the participatory observation in order to build up the recent social history of the village and its region. Through the interviews leaded I could define three periods. The oldest one, stretching from 1930 till 1950, displays 'flexible' sexed relationship. The tasks accomplished by the men and women are displaying a 'commutativity' of the work according to the social and economical context. In addition to that, in the same period of time, the strong visibility of a category of women proves the fluidity of the space occupation. Between 1950 and 1980, the moving of the men and the women is changing. If their role slightly change the males and females roles do not fundamentally differ. At last, in the last period from 1980 till nowadays it is appearing a nex fixed sexed relationships, reflected in the strict and sexed occupation of the spaces. How to understand the dynamic of the roles and the sexed relationships which are drawn up through the recent social history in this rural region? How to articulate this dynamic with the occupation of spaces? Is it possible to define a link between sexed relationships and spaces? I lead this analysis on the changing sexed roles and sexed representations outside the frame commonly adopted by the studies on the sexed relationships in the arab world. Thus I tried to producea study which does not anchors the males and females in the power relationship, based on the dialectic of oppressed/opressor. Through this grid of analysis it is possible to inscribe the sexed relationship outside the rigid sexed relationship, so often produce in the anthropological literature. At last, the study aims at understanding the differnet mutations of the rural areas in a politico-socialgrid of interpretation of the sexed relationships and non on economical or structural as often the studies assumes
Gouyon, Marien. ""Ana loubia" : ruses et résistances dans l’exploration identitaire des homosexualités masculines à Casablanca". Paris, EHESS, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015EHES0660.
Texto completo da fonteMy PhD is dedicated to the issue of male homosexuality in the city of Casablanca. I carried out a three-year ethnographic field study, with forty-one men aged 16 to 30, from middle and working classes. Informed by the daily experiences of these men, this work enlightens how conceptual frameworks built by previous studies on homosexuality in European countries and the United States are irrelevant in the Moroccan context. In order to think anew the politization of homosexuality issue in Morocco, my approach coins a critique of globalizing discourse about homosexuality in Morocco through the analysis of singular paths. Without denying the hegemonic spread of sexual identities, I focus on the hybrid and changing dimension of (homo) sexual identities. At the crossroads between literature, virtual space and urban space, I propose therefore to understand, through the notion of agency, the individual and collective construction of homosexual identities as resulting from an arising consciousness concerning class, gender and "race" oppression. Such a stance reveals then the ways in which resistance and cunning structure the social construction of identities as well as social relationship
Rebucini, Gianfranco. "Les masculinités au Maroc : pour une anthropologie des genres et des sexualités dans la ville de Marrakech". Paris, EHESS, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009EHES0402.
Texto completo da fonteThis thesis focuses on the study of concrete parctices linked to masculinities, in their expressions and meanings in Morocco, in particular in the city of Marrakech, my main fieldwork location. This essay is both a general reflection on the question of masculinities and an anthropological and ethnological work centered on a Mediterranean area, Morocco, which is very lightly affected by Anthropology of Gender Studies with regard to the issues. Because concrete achievment of masculinity can find fulfillment in practices and behaviors that could appear in total opposition to ideal masculinity, thus I considered a complex dimension of this phenomenon: homoerotic and homosexual practices. In fact, both for Moroccans and Europeans Marrakech is generally seen as a city longstanding bound to male homoeroticism and a place where sexual categories are blurred. Thereby, in this thesis male homoerotic practices and homosexual identities are considered as privileged contexts of analysis for the comprehension of the masculinity construction in his whole. For this purpose, the concept of hegemonic masculinity seemed to me a particular resourceful tool for the analysis of relationship between ideal representations of masculinity, and the construction of gender and sexual male identities. This is true especially in relation to the issue of social classes and their consequences on the development plural conceptions of masculinity and sexual male practices
Curopos, Fernando. "Le féminin dans l'oeuvre de António Nobre". Paris 4, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005PA040162.
Texto completo da fonteThe work is studied from a stylistic perspective so as to highlight what has induced critics to emphasize feminine features in the poet’s writing. By making intensive use of the childhood’s language and oral communication Nobre endows his mother tongue thereby sublimating through writing the fantasy of returning to the maternal womb. The careful analysis of metaphors in the text reveals a form of sensibility that is traditionally associated with female psychology. The poet’s Ego grows less masculine and more feminine. Thus, among the various representations of woman none is capable of arousing desire for they are all designed to conceal the unconscious representation of the mother. The progressive unmanning of the subject is subsumed under the larger crisis of male identity as embodied by the figure of the dandy and the androgyne and linked to gay issues. By playing up gender confusions Nobre goes beyond the simplistic male/female dichotomy and confesses the fantasy of a non sexual marked gender that may be assimilated to the desire of being nothing but returning to Mother Earth

Are they following the evolution of Algerian society or, on the contrary, are they continuing to show a traditional picture, in opposition to the society changes ? These are the questions dealed with in this study which gives you information about the way the social representations are developed and passed down within the school context. Women are under-represented and often showed in demeaning position and limited roles. The usual stereotype, it is the traditionnal model, the woman responsible for family and domestic tasks with her daughter as assistant. A traditional perception which confine women to their wife and mother role. In the minority, they remain reduced to their private and family roles, despite some occasions when female characters are not showed as mothers. First, are presented the women place in the society, the Algerian educational system and the different approaches adopted to ensure the education efficiency, the girls' in particular. Then, is entered the analysis of the school reading textbook in order to have a better view on its conception realization and content. Texto completo da fonteInverse, reverse, queer. Boundaries, between-ness, gap. Such terms describe the instability of the subject’s position as represented in Jean Genet’s theatre. In his work, the low brushes against the high, the masculine blends within the feminine —and vice versa—, the sexual flirts with the religious, and opposites mingle. This dissertation, « Jean Genet ou le revers du genre », (Jean Genet or the other side of gender), demonstrates that Genet’s dramatic representation of sexual polymorphism paves its way toward a poetics of ambiguity. First, this study shows how the androgynous and transvestite fictional figures that the playwright brings onto the stage embody the distortion and queerness of the sexualized image he has in mind. The deconstructionist framework within which this research is carried out establishes a criticism of the normative binary system. It begins by focusing on the playful imaginary aspects of the visual element of Genet’s dramatic representation. Secondly, it demonstrates that his theatrical conception relies on a model of surveillance that questions the status of the spectator. Then, the third part of this study gives a more precise definition of what is envisioned here as the expression of a « polysexual », aesthetics, constructing on stage a circulation of sexual, social and imaginary identities through the manipulation and distortion of scenic images. This study then concludes with an analysis of the way in which Genet goes beyond these dramatic games to establish his identity politics and aesthetics as social and cultural constructs. The author seizes the metamorphic quality of identity, bringing the disconnectedness of the subject to the forefront by doing and undoing gender. Jean Genet’s unclassifiable body of work escapes traditional literary categorizations, disturbing us as it interrogates our humanity and exposes the fluidity of each of our identities. It destabilizes our foundations as it embodies our sexual urges before our eyes in an object of desire which may be feminine, masculine or which perhaps stems from a third sex

Unlike the family telephone, these new means of communication are individual and mobile and they might contribute to give them a new and significant autonomy. The objective of this thesis is to analyse their role in the socialization process of young adolescents. The first chapter of this thesis presents the issue with respect to the litterature and presents the tools as potential ressources for the claim of the status of "old" in the family. Chapter 2 analyses how the young high-school student negociates his teenager status in the family, through the acquisition and usage of these means of communication. Chapter 3 examines the dynamics with the peers, and among others, the construction of norms. At last, Chapter 4 details the role of mobile phone and internet in the building of gender and gender relationship. The results are based on 54 individual interviews with teenagers and 22 interviews with members of their family. We also conducted a quantitative survey with 435 students of a French college

Texto completo da fonteThe purpose of this thesis is to examine gender, as a social concept, and its representations in the media of western societies, especially in tv advertisements. The first part is a theoretical approch of the concept of gender. We first examine the biological and social theories linked to gender, as well as the feminists' response to sexist portrayals -male and female- in the media. We point out the differences between male and female behaviour during various types of social interaction, in public and private places. We consider the male condition nowdays, as well as its evolution since the 18th century. The role of the 'father' is analysed extensively, given its continuously increasing importance. We discuss about the future of the sociology of masculinity as well as some perspectives in the 'men studies' area. We also present and analyse various feminist 'typologies'. We propose an analysis of the 'stereotype' concept and the way it has been used in the media representation of gender. Next, we review a series of articles and books extracts dealing with male and female images in advertising from the 70's till now. We also examine gender portrayals in media other than advertising. The audience perception of gender stereotypes along with its reaction to sexism in the media is also analysed. The theoretical part ends with erving goffman's! Exceptional work on symbolic gender interactions. The second part of this thesis presents our empirical work. Specifically, this part deals with gender stereotypes in advertisements shown in french television during march and april 1995. We examine a series of variables in relation with the gender of the central caracter of each ad, to investigate the way gender influences men's and women's representation in french tv ads

Texto completo da fonteThe theatre of Tennessee Williams covering the period from 1940-1960, most significantly the plays written and produced under McCarthyism, arouses interest through its suggestive force. Desire and sexuality, considered as largely taboo subjects for the stage, are only obliquely and allusively approached. Their potentiality remains nevertheless subversive. Williams, a committed but not sectarian writer, gives voice to those who are voiceless in the normative and binary structured heteropatriarcal society. He raises very disturbing questions about gender (sexually determined social relations) in his works, where the boundaries between masculinity and femininity, between homosexuality and heterosexuality, are not always clear-cut. Far from reasserting sex/gender differences, the playwright defends a rather hybrid view of identity in which subjects appear as a sum of the different identities they hold. His creation offers a wide range of possible identifications and introduces the queer idea claiming that identity is a socially and culturally constructed site of multiplicity and permanent becoming

Texto completo da fonteThe research concerns the study of specificities connected to the online collaborative learning in a multicultural context. It is situated at the intersection of the reflections carried out on the conceptual fields dealing with the motivation, with the culture, with the gender and with the distance training mediatized by the educational technologies. The context of this study lies in and online university training gathering 249 European and African students, all French-speaking people, in an adult continuing training and working within remote collaborative learning plan. My reflection was driven by the questioning about the way the students lived the online collaboration in multicultural context, in particular on the difficulties shown by the Africans while at the same time they seemed to present a more positive attitude than their western peers towards this method of training. Several successive investigations (preliminary, quantitative and qualitative among representative samples of the students) make it possible to bring a certain number of answers to the question of research as well as additional details. The culture, in particular the sociotechnical environment of the learners, provides an additional variable well to be taken into account with regard to the gender necessary to decode attitudes and behavior of learners who are involved in a online collaborative training. A reflection around the dimensions of the “learnance” (learning readiness) and the transactional distance also allows to understand better the relations between the actors of the training and the necessary adaptations of the training design in such a context

Widely studied in Anglo-Saxon literature, male and female media representations in specialized sport magazines are particularly representative of what CONNELL (1987) calls the hegemonic masculinity and the emphasized feminity. On this basis, this thesis compares the results of these studies by meticulously analysing the gender models presented in specialised mountain bike publications. As mountain biking is an equipped outdoor activity, it is at first sight be associated to male and female models which are quite remote from the most traditional definitions of the sex categories. The analysis of the corpus, based on three main magazines in the field: Vélo Vert, Vélo Tout Terrain and VTTMag confirms at first the strong presence of the most extreme aspects of both hegemonic masculinity and emphasized feminity. But some riding contexts or specific statuses among the Mountain Bike circle provide the readers with much more innovative gender models, quite remote from the traditional media representations. Studying the Mountain Bike circle by focusing on the gender model construction in specialised publications permits to question the role of media in the production of a legitimate definition of the activity, but also to underscore the doxa (BOURDIEU, 1997) that structures this field of practice in terms of sex social relations. The analysis of career paths and journalistic practices shows that two distinct kinds of journalists exist. Based on opposite professional identification processes, these two profiles lead to more or less critical relationships with the Mountain Bike circle and the gender models enhanced in them. Moreover, these sex social relations which prevail among the editorial staffs prevent women from being heard. Insufficient in number, weakened by their status of freelance journalist and male journalist's wife, they come up against the strong male sociability which is in force in editorial offices, genuine places of construction of a "Mountain Bike masculinity". Beyond the importance of the production unit, the publishing unit, and more precisely the different publishing houses, their history, their organization, highly influence the position of each title, strongly orientating the modes of mise en scene of gender models

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis analyses gender relations within Komala, the left-wing Kurdish organization that was emerged on the Iranian political scene after the 1979 Revolution. In order to make visible the events peculiar to this historical period, ignored and forgotten both by researchers as well as political and social movements in Iran, the thesis examines gender inequalities within the organization, focusing on women’s political participations and engament. To do so, the thesis draws on the political experiences and life stories of ex-Peshmerga (fighters in Kurdish) gathered through numerous interviews.Analyzing the trajectories of militant Kurdish women in the organization, carried out with the help of gender and feminist studies, makes it possible to observe the inter-articulations and reconfigurations of the sexual division of reproductive labor, the sexual division of revolutionary labor, and sexist representations.According to the results of this thesis, the sexual divisions of labor are reconfigured within the organization through unequal and asymmetrical relations between men and women. Whereas Kurdish women were socially confined to the domestic space until the 1979 Revolution, they played a new and active role as Peshmerga in the political sphere which, nonetheless, was not easily accessible to and feasible for them. To enter political life, in particular armed struggle, women had to encounter various obstacles, including masculinity and the difficulties involved in the creation of ‘non-mixed’ spaces. Although the organization has considered itself ‘revolutionary’ and ‘avant-garde’ on gender norms, and despite women’s efforts to modify those norms, Komala remains structured by the sexual division of labor in the context of armed struggle

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis analyzes the role that gender played in the media’s representation of French presidential candidates during the 2007 elections. It proposes a review of the mainstream national press (Le Monde, Le Figaro, Libération, Aujourd’hui en France, La Croix, l’Humanité, 20 minutes, Le Nouvel Observateur, Le Point, L’Express, Marianne) during the official campaign (from 9 April to 6 May) using discourse analysis to explain the paradoxical representation of the candidates’ gender: despite the fact that gender was central to the construction of the candidates’ image, the media’s coverage of the campaign largely sidestepped the issue. Our hypothesis is that the journalistic discourse is on the surface neutral but in fact relocates the representation of gender to its margins. Through an analysis based on the varying levels of enunciative involvement in journalistic discourse, we observed, in the first place, that the traditional analysis of gender stereotypes used to describe female politicians cannot account for the representations of Ségolène Royale, the first female presidential candidate from a mainstream party with a plausible chance of being elected. Second, we observed that in journalistic genres where the discourse is apparently neutral (portraits, summaries of televised debates, and editorials), the gender dichotomy is present but marginalized. Finally, in studying this marginalized presence of gendered language, we discerned a phenomenon of distancing through reported speech, in which journalists attribute to “real people” gender characterizations according to which female identity is seen as a foil to presidential power, a power characterized rather by traits associated with masculinity. Through this enunciative distancing, journalists can employ gender representations indirectly to explain the stakes of the campaign -- dismissing them as fallacious elements of public opinion but citing them nonetheless

Texto completo da fonteThe Invention of the Third Sex proposes to problematize notions of sex and gender from the July Monarchy to the period between the two World Wars. Based on the myths of the androgynous and the hermaphrodite of the Ancients, the “third sex” has had three main definitions : the fairy (or the male and often cross-dresser prostitute), the invert (defined as “a woman’s soul in man’s body” or “man’s soul in a woman’s body”) and the modern working woman, considered as “desexualised” or “asexualised”. This study will thus cover the range of police archives, treatises on mental alienation, first works of psychoanalysis, literature, contemporary professional journals and newspapers in order to show how, from the criminalization to the medicalization of biological or psychic “anomalies,” the official discourses on virility and femininity, male and female, were constructed

This research offers a comparative analysis of the multidisciplinary works of Maria Klonaris, Katerina Thomadaki, Steven Cohen and Shu Lea Cheang. Their works provides a useful framework for understanding Judith Butler's theory of "gender performativity"(1990) and Donna Haraway‟s vision of "utopian dream of the hope for a monstrous world without gender"(1985). The possibilities of the body and gender respond to technological and cultural evolutions that are linked with queer theory. These works are on-going experiments for identities that are in-the-making

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis, which is part of gender studies, focuses on women's identities and masculinity/femininity in China and seeks to generate theoretical and empirical elements that respond to the following question: why, in a socialist country of more than sixty years, with a gender equality policy, radical inequalities still dominate? Three studies are proposed. The first is a genealogy work of the term "sex" which is based on the study of social discourses during Chinese modernization for the analysis of the terminology "woman" in Feminisms of different periods. Through this work, we try to understand why there is a "feminine" life in China, and how masculinities/femininities construct the "man" and "woman" in the Chinese context. The second study will be built on the social context generated by the first study and will analyze the specific case of gender representations in Chinese textbooks. The idea is to see how gender differences arise in this instrument of socialization, and if they present unequal elements that contradict the gender equality policy of the socialist state. Finally, through the study of interviews with women from the city of Chengdu, all these elements analyzed together allow us to propose a reading of female life, organized according to the implicit social practices and that make possible to observe the inconsistencies of the regulatory practices of identity

Texto completo da fonteThroughout the centuries, the warrior woman, an incarnation of the myth of androgyny, has fascinated authors and readers. The heroines of the Orlando furioso (1532) from Ludovico Ariosto are influenced by Greco-Latin warrior women like Penthesilea or Thomyris. But Ariosto changes his viragos to main characters. His warrior women, Marphise and Bradamante, constitute the support and foundation of the Christian empire. By praising and caricaturing his heroines, the author underlines their heterogeneous nature, describing their prowess and defeat, their femininity and masculinity and their relationship towards Christianity and paganism. Authors whose works refer to the Querelle des femmes also analyze the characteristics of these proteiform protagonists who engender in the real world various manners of identification. Their multiform character is most likely also one of the reasons why authors succeeding Ariosto continue to adapt Marphise and Bradamante in different literary genres and keep transforming their original portrait. Marphise and Bradamante are transfictional characters who even appear in the narrative literature of the 20th century

Texto completo da fonteSocial work has always been the target of a great deal of criticism. While in the 1970s such criticism stressed the normative and supervisory role of social work, it now focuses on its managerialisation and, in particular, social work managers, identified as the main promoters of managerial dynamics. But how significant and uniform are these dynamics? What role does the managerial approach play in the careers and practices of social work managers? The research centres on social work managers, adopting a comprehensive approach to the actors involved and aiming for a gendered interpretation of management in social work. It draws on situated, composite material made up of biographical interviews (29) with managers working in different areas of social action, CVs and career notes for managers undergoing training (322), and participant observation data (notes on the professional experience of a manager and head of training in social work management jobs) recorded in a field notebook. The survey shows, firstly, that the social work manager category covers a wide variety of functions (department head, manager, general manager, etc.) and employment contexts (private non-profit and commercial sector and public sector). Above and beyond these different social and legal positions, the managers appear as a specific category, if not a category apart. Secondly, rather than focusing the research on this social group, analysis of field materials reveals what is encompassed by the notion of management, a major factor in the representation of this category.Thirdly, the quantitative and qualitative processing of materials demonstrates the different entry modes, practices and movements that form a gendered managerial career while underscoring the importance of analysing social work through the prism of gender. In conclusion, studying accounts of professional practices results in the identification of management models affected by gender norms (management, care) and management models (neo-management, caring management) which claim to transcend gender. With a view to taking a new look at criticism of social work within a feminist perspective, this research examines the foundations of social work managers and how they have evolved, seeing in caring management the emergence of a meaningful model in response to the shifts and questions at play in the field of social work

The explosion of Arab Satellite Channels (ASC) since 1990 have allowed women in the Arab World to be present in a wide range of media professions, particularly TV anchor. Today, we can notice a diversity of women anchor’s figures after the emergence of many specialized and generalized satellite channels. Indeed, women are present in news, social and political talk shows, sport, religion, fashion, food, and reporting. Some of those figures outcome of political, social and economic logic of specific national context (Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia), while others are the result of professionalism competition of channels and subjective experience of women anchors-as new actors on ASC- in transnational context (Lebanon, Qatar and Dubai). A key factor in this new configuration of women’s visibility on Arab media landscape is the transgressing of the traditional male domain. Indeed, many women anchors proved impressive strides in debate TV programs and reporting. Based on their professional experience, high education and talents, they proved to be equal to men and sometimes more effective and influential. Women anchor’s new visibility in ASC affects women’s professional situation, shapes gender relationships, women’s participation in the public sphere, and family’s perceptions and retention of women into Arab Societies

The character a veritable herald of social and moral tear, institutes a new link to reality by improving a kind of mental erethism. It is therefore a matter of improving the state of decadence through a provocative discourse. Baudelaire wrote « Anywhere but out of this world » This credo will be repeated over and over in the works of this followers who intend to undo reality in order to remake it. Rachilde's and Jean Lorrain's works, real pleas against the norm, link together upon two main lines which will determine their thematic and scriptural choices : perversion and subversion. Using major novels of both authors, this thesis intends firstly to analyse the semiology of a out of nature universe which thwarts the plans of reality transcription by the liberation of the heroes' and heroines' phantasmagoria and neurosis. Secondly, this thesis will bring out Eros' perversions which can be the expression of the desire transformation as a wish to « remake love ». This rewriting of codes, sexual in particular, leads up a trouble about gender and moreover, about the ego. Finally, we will examine the fevers of identity which lead to the endless fluctuations of speech between sense and nonsense, which will be shown to be symptomatic of an iconoclastic position. When the aesthetics become ethical, decadence is never very far
