In 2004, Ts. Turbat made a discovery of a significant site of engraved rock art, dating back to the Upper Paleolithic period. Situated on the south bank of the Baga Oigor River, this remarkable site lies within the protective zone of the World Heritage site of the Mongolian Altai rock art complex. The Baga Oigor-VI complex boasts an impressive array of 41 depictions featuring animals such as horses, ibex, argali, deer, cattle, and snakes from the Upper Paleolithic period, complemented by an additional 16 images originating from the Bronze Age, constituting a total of 57 images. Noteworthy is the superior preservation status of this monument, eclipsing that of comparable sites and presenting unparalleled clarity in visibility. The scarcity of open Paleolithic rock art sites across the globe that bear resemblance to this exceptional find underscores its singular nature. The geographically nearest analogous site of significance is the Gobustan monument in the South Caucasus followed by largest concentration of similar monuments in Iberian peninsula. Beyond the renowned ochre paintings of the Khoid Tsenkher Cave, an extensive exploration of carved rock art open air monuments is underway, elevating the Mongolian Altai region to the status of a pivotal hub in the realm of ancient art. The sheer abundance and widespread distribution of these monuments contribute to its characterization as a veritable “cradle of prehistoric art”.

Even given a state-of-the-art masking scheme, masked software implementation of some cryptography functionality can pose significant challenges stemming, e.g., from simultaneous requirements for efficiency and security. In this paper we design an Instruction Set Extension (ISE) to address a specific element of said challenge, namely the elimination of leakage stemming from architectural and microarchitectural overwriting. Conceptually, the ISE allows a leakage-focused behavioural hint to be communicated from software to the micro-architecture: using it informs how computation is realised when applied to masking-specific data, which then offers an opportunity to eliminate associated leakage. We develop prototype, latencyand area-optimised implementations of the ISE design based on the RISC-V Ibex core. Using them, we demonstrate that use of the ISE can close the gap between assumptions about and actual behaviour of a device and thereby deliver an improved security guarantee.

AbstractIn the summer of 1991 excavation was made of the largest barrow of a complex at Kuturguntas in the Bertek hollow of the Altai Highlands. The fairly well-preserved log-roofed construction consisted of an outer burial chamber of blackened roughhewn logs, an inner chamber of worked timber, a sarcophagus made of a single large log, and a storeroom. The coffin and storeroom had been ransacked in antiquity, but surviving grave goods-which include fragments of fur clothing, felt applique, and metal and wooden objects-parallel those found in other Pazyryk graves. Two carved wooden ibex heads had however not been attested among Pazyryk grave goods elsewhere. The wealth of the people buried in such medium-sized barrows lay in the thoroughbred horses buried with them. The burial here of 10 horses had not been disturbed, although only the wooden bridle decorations of the principal 'master's horse' survive well. These again show the popularity of the griffin motif in Pazyryk art. Fragments of three wooden bridle decorations displaying anthropomorphic horned faces probably had a protective function and are linked by the author to the mongoloid Hsiunnu, near neighbours of the Pazyryk people, and to the eclectic receptivity of the Pazyryk people to diverse iconography borrowings from the Middle and Far East.

Background: Bacterial meningitis is a severe infectious disease that affects the central nervous system and can result in high mortality rates and neurological complications. In neonates, meningitis is mainly caused by neonatal meningitis Escherichia coli (NMEC), which invades the intestine, leading to hematogenous spreadand potential bacterial meningitis through blood-brain barrier. Previous studies indicated that the ability of NMEC to adhere and invade is associated with biofilm formation and a deficiency in ibeA may result in decreased virulence and biofilm-forming ability of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC). Furthermore, the ibeA gene is positioned downstream of ibeR. Our previous studies have shown that ibeR and ibeA genes can both regulate the virulence and relevant phenotypes in E. coli K1. However, the effects of ibeR and ibeA on the biofilm formation and invasion of K1 strain remain to be further studied. Recent studies suggest that indole may act as a signaling molecule to regulate the expression of adhesion and biofilm-promoting factors in E. coli. However, the mechanism by which indole affects biofilms is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of ibeA inhibition of indole-induced NMEC invasion and biofilm formation. Methods: The viability and growth of the wild strain E44 and ibeA-deletion mutant strain ZD1 were assessed by MTT cell proliferation assay kit (Coolaber). The absorbance values were measured at 490 nm and 540 nm by ELISA. The invasion activities and the biofilm formation ability of E44 and ZD1 were detected in vitro studies. We conducted a cell invasion test using the Human Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HBMEC) model. The ability to form a biofilm was measured at 600 nm using a specific biofilm formation index. Biofilm phenotypic was observed by an confocal laser-scanning microscope(Olympus FV-1000, Japan). Then, we used indole as a regulatory agency to compare its biofilm inhibitory efficacy between E44 and ibeR-deletion mutant strain BR2. The experimental data were analyzed using the SPSS 19.0 statistical package. A statistically significant difference was indicated by P<0.05. Results: No difference was found in bacterial growth between the E. coli strains E44 and ZD1. The biofilm formation and HBMECs invasion of ZD1 was significantly lower than that of E44. After treatment with 0.5mM indole, the biofilm formation ability and the ibeA protein expressions of E44 were significantly inhibited. However, indole at different concentrations had no obvious inhibition on BR2 biofilm formation and the ibeA protein expressions. Conclusion: In summary, the study found that ibeA had a significant regulatory effect on HBMECs invasion and biofilm formation of NMEC, which may inhibit by indole via regulating ibeA through ibeR. Background: Myeloid cells are critical determinants of the sustained inflammation in Crohn’s Disease (CD). Targeting such cells may be an effective therapeutic approach for refractory CD patients. Bromodomain and extra-terminal domain protein inhibitors (iBET) are potent anti-inflammatory agents; however, they also possess wide-ranging toxicities. In the current study, we make use of a BET inhibitor containing an esterase sensitive motif (ESM-iBET), which is cleaved by carboxylesterase-1 (CES1), a highly expressed esterase in mononuclear myeloid cells. Methods: We profiled CES1 protein expression in the intestinal biopsies, peripheral blood, and CD fistula tract (fCD) cells of CD patients using mass cytometry. The anti-inflammatory effect of ESM-iBET or its control (iBET) were evaluated in healthy donor CD14+ monocytes and fCD cells, using cytometric beads assay or RNA-sequencing. Results: CES1 was specifically expressed in monocyte, macrophage, and dendritic cell populations in the intestinal tissue, peripheral blood, and fCD cells of CD patients. ESM-iBET inhibited IL1β, IL6, and TNFα secretion from healthy donor CD14+ monocytes and fCD immune cells, with 10- to 26-fold more potency over iBET in isolated CD14+ monocytes. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that ESM-iBET inhibited multiple inflammatory pathways, including TNF, JAK-STAT, NF-kB, NOD2, and AKT signaling, with superior potency over iBET. Conclusions: We demonstrate specific CES1 expression in mononuclear myeloid cell subsets in peripheral blood and inflamed tissues of CD patients. We report that low dose ESM-iBET accumulates in CES1-expressing cells and exerts robust anti-inflammatory effects, which could be beneficial in refractory CD patients.

This thesis assesses the level of integrative dialogic communication prompted by IBEX 35 companies and a selection of 20 Fortune 500 firms with their external audiences on blogs, Facebook and Twitter. With this aim, a dialogic conceptual tool based on Kent y Taylor's (1998) (1998) framework has been created and applied to the entire sample. The tool consists of a questionnaire which analyzes 61 variables and 39 sub-variables on three dimensions: presence, content and interactivity. Inter-method triangulation, i.e., virtual ethnography, critical discourse analysis (CDA) and interviews with experts, has been applied to carry out the research. Results of this research show that use of social media at the dialogic level is higher in the Ibex 35 companies than in the Fortune 500 firms. However, both in the Ibex 35 and the Fortune 500 companies, the percentage of companies with low levels of dialogic communication exceeds the percentage of companies with high levels. Consistent with previous research, this study concludes that Ibex 35 and Fortune 500 companies are still not fully utilizing social media's dialogic potential.

Title: Implementing an IBX e-procurement solution – are there any success factors?

Subject: FE02E bachelor thesis, logistics

Authors: Linus Jönsson, Emma Oscarsson, David Skoglund & Max Stafström

Tutor: Roger Stokkedal

Keywords: E-procurement, implementing, critical success factors, benefits, problems, MRO-products

Background: One of the major problems that organizations face today is how to bring home savings. E-procurement solutions can be a tool to reach efficiency and reduce costs within organization. One of the biggest spend issues companies wrestle with are indirect material, also defined as MRO products (maintenance, repair, operations).

Purpose: The thesis will examine why companies decide to implement an e-procurement solution and what their expectations are. The purpose of the research was to identify which the success factors are when implementing this type of solution. Eventual problems that may emerge during the implementation and benefits that the implementation might lead to, will also be presented.

Methodology: The thesis has a survey design which studies variables in an e-procurement implementation. The scientific perspective is positivistic and has a deductive approach. The sample contains customers to IBX which use the entire solution, from planning to follow-up. The data has been gathered through a post-questionnaire.

Result /Conclusion: When deciding to implement an e-procurement solution companies base this decision on a number of reasons. The most common reasons are to increase the internal efficiency and reduce the supplier base. There are also other encouraging reasons to the implementation which all concerns saving time and money. Once the decision has been made, expectations on the solution arise and companies expect the solution to bring benefits. Most common expectations are much alike the reasons concerning saving time and money on purchases of MRO-products. Besides the reasons and expectation companies must consider the critical success factors, both before, during and after the implementation. These factors will determine whether or not the implementation will be a success and they can be divided into factors that affect all companies and factors that just affect some. The key factors, affect all, are defining an e-procurement strategy, change management and training and education. Secondary factors will affect some companies, and depending on the situation organizations must take them into their perspective. These factors are i.e. well defined steering group and communication. If companies don´t consider the success factors problems may emerge, where change management is one of the most common problem. This is an organizationalproblem just like lack of information from external parts and lack in project management skills internally. Besides the organizational problems companies can also experience technical problems, which are directly associated to the solution that‟s implemented. Some of these problems are complex usability, complicated to communicate and integrate. By avoiding the problems companies can expect to see more benefits from the solution, the most experienced benefits are compliance savings, reduced supplier base and lowered administrative costs. These benefits mainly considers time saving and are all associated with the reasons to the implementation and expectations on the solutionResult /Conclusion: When deciding to implement an e-procurement solution companies base this decision on a number of reasons. The 8th International Symposium "Monitoring of Mediterranean Coastal Areas. Problems and Measurements Techniques" was organized by CNR-IBE in collaboration with FCS Foundation, and Natural History Museum of the Mediterranean and under the patronage of University of Florence, Accademia dei Geogofili, Tuscany Region and Livorno Province. It is the occasion in which scholars can illustrate and exchange their activities and innovative proposals, with common aims to promote actions to preserve coastal marine environment. Considering Symposium interdisciplinary nature, the Scientific Committee, underlining this holistic view of Nature, decided to celebrate Alexander von Humboldt; a nature scholar that proposed the organic and inorganic nature’s aspects as a single system. It represents a sign of continuity considering that in-presence Symposium could not be carried out due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Subjects are related to coastal topics: morphology; flora and fauna; energy production; management and integrated protection; geography and landscape, cultural heritage and environmental assets, legal and economic aspects.

Iber is a two-dimensional hydraulic model for the simulation of free surface flow in rivers and estuaries, and the simulation of environmental processes in fluvial hydraulics. Since the release of the first version of Iber, which included a hydrodynamic calculation engine fully coupled with sediment transport processes and turbulence, it has evolved to become a free surface flow modelling tool for highly complex environmental processes. This document presents the developments made for version 3, where the advances are applied mainly in four current research lines: a new urban drainage module, a significant advance in the capabilities of the hydrological process module, a new soil erosion module, and a new module for calculating sediment transport considering non-uniform material (mixtures). Likewise, all the work has been accompanied by a cross-cutting task of improving the interface, both for existing modules and the creation of new windows and menus for new modules aiming to improve the whole workflow.

Inference to the best explanation (IBE) tells us to infer from the available evidence to the hypothesis which would, if correct, best explain that evidence. As Peter Lipton puts it, the core idea driving IBE is that explanatory considerations are a guide to inference. But what is the epistemic status of IBE itself? One issue of contemporary interest is whether it is possible to provide a justification for IBE itself which is non-objectionably circular. We aim to carve out some new space in this debate. In particular, we suggest that the matter of whether a given rule-circular argument is objectionably circular itself depends crucially on some subtle distinctions which have been made in the recent literature on perceptual warrant. By bringing these debates together, a principled reason emerges for why some kinds of rule-circular justifications for IBE are considerably less objectionable than others.

AbstractMeasuring the informational content of text in economic and financial news is useful for market participants to adjust their perception and expectations on the dynamics of financial markets. In this work, we adopt a neural machine translation and deep learning approach to extract the emotional content of economic and financial news from Spanish journals. To this end, we exploit a dataset of over 14 million articles published in Spanish newspapers over the period from 1st of July 1996 until 31st of December 2019. We then examine the role of these news-based emotions indicators in forecasting the Spanish IBEX-35 stock market index by using DeepAR, an advanced neural forecasting method based on auto-regressive Recurrent Neural Networks operating in a probabilistic setting. The aim is to evaluate if the combination of a richer information set including the emotional content of economic and financial news with state-of-the-art machine learning can help in such a challenging prediction task. The DeepAR model is trained by adopting a rolling-window approach and employed to produce point and density forecasts. Results look promising, showing an improvement in the IBEX-35 index fitting when the emotional variables are included in the model.

AbstractChapters 8, 9 and 10 describe the positioning of the IBE from the point of view of the values it defended and the principles that guided it. This chapter examines how the IBE of the 1920s conveyed the spirit of education as being the primary tool for peace-building internationalism, being imbued with the Wilsonian pacifism that was embodied by Geneva once it was designated as the headquarters of the League of Nations. It also examines how the Bureau’s leaders succeeded or failed in reconciling these resolutely committed collective ideals with the strict objectivity and self-proclaimed neutrality of the IBE, the importance given to psychopedagogy as “Copernican revolution”, and the adjustments that such precarious balancing acts required. These analyses are enhanced in an insert on peace education as presented in the IBE’s bulletins.

AbstractOn the basis of surveys on crucial educational problems, the International Conferences on Public Education drew up recommendations that the participating States voted on. This vote, from the point of view of the leaders of the IBE as shown in the chapter, committed the states. The IBE leaders also responded to critics concerning the official data presented in the reports on the education surveys in claiming that, even if not corresponding completely to reality, producing these data committed the States. And they observed that official data on education are much more contested than data on the economy for instance.

AbstractFirst, we show that the IBE, founded in 1925, can be considered as a matrix of educational internationalism. It became the first intergovernmental institution in education in 1929, and under the aegis of Piaget, it developed a more and more resolutely universal and universalist ambition. This orientation of the IBE sets the point of view adopted for the analysis of its history. We then forge theoretical tools based on the ongoing debate on the universal in order to proceed to a critical sociogenesis of the IBE’s ambitions and achievements within its relational network and the educational context of the twentieth century and we formulate our research questions. We finally present the five parts which make up the book, each representing a particular point of view on the IBE’s history, written thanks to the rich archival heritage which is briefly described. A brief conclusion highlights some contradictions still present today which are then taken up in our general conclusion.

AbstractChapters 11, 12 and 13 of Part III analyse the modus operandi of the IBE and its theoretical and methodological underpinnings. This chapter gives a detailed description of the functioning of the International Conferences on Public Education, its scenography which would last, with some adjustments, from 1934 to 1968. Two main topics were discussed in these conferences which are presented and categorised: on the one hand, the educational movement all over the world; on the other hand, international surveys on crucial problems in education. An insert presents a network analysis of some debates in the International Conferences.

Enough mammal specimens of Late Glacial date from the British Isles have been subjected to radiocarbon dating to provide a reliable outline of the likely large mammal fauna of the time, though the accompanying fauna of small mammals has mostly been assigned to this period on associative, rather than direct, dating. These give an adequate zoological background against which to examine the suggested identities of the large mammals depicted at Church Hole, Creswell Crags. This background information is reviewed in this chapter. While Bison priscus was certainly present earlier in the Devensian, there is no evidence that Bison returned to Britain in the Late Glacial, but aurochs (Bos primigenius) did so, and must be considered a more probable identification. The evidence that ibex (Capra ibex) ever occurred in Britain is very dubious, which cast serious doubt on the original identification of the Church Hole Panel III engraving as being of this species. In this case, discussion and reinterpretation of the engravings during the course of the conference suggested a better resolution than the zoological one suggested at the time. The ice of the Devensian glacial maximum, at about 20–18 ka BP, is believed to have covered all of northern Great Britain and Ireland, leaving smaller areas of the south of each island free of ice but occupied by tundra, permafrost, conditions. It is most unlikely that any of the present mammal fauna could have survived here then, though the possibilities that mountain hare (Lepus timidus) and stoat (Mustela erminea) did so must be conceded—both range well into the Arctic at the present day. The severity of the climate, and the likely nature of the mammal fauna, is indicated by the presence of musk ox (Ovibos moschatus) (Fisherton, Wiltshire, but undated) and the possible polar bear (Ursus maritimus) (Creag nan Uamh, Sutherland, 18.9 ka: Kitchener and Bonsall 1997) that date to this time. Barnwell Station, Cambridge, has a14 C date on peat of 19.5 ka BP, and a fauna including woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis), reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), and horse (Equus ferus). Dated specimens fromsouthern Ireland are also relevant: collared lemming (Dicrostonyx torquatus) at20.3 ka BP, woolly mammoth at 20.36 ka BP and Arctic fox (Alopex lagopus) at 19.95 ka BP, all from Castlepook Cave, Cork (Woodman et al. 1997).

Abstract Ibex are found in most high elevation and relatively extensive arid-zone mountain ranges in Pakistan, occurring at altitudes up to 3350 m. The Sindh ibex, Capra aegagrus blythi, is restricted to parks, reserves, and remote areas near Karachi in southern Pakistan. It is a large game animal and the most common native ungulate in Kirthar National Park (KNP) (Edge and Olson-Edge 1990) and has a high public profile not only among the locals but also among overseas trophy hunters. The curving horn of adult males may grow to over 102 cm in length (Roberts 1997). The ibex population in KNP is largely or completely isolated from other populations of the subspecies in Pakistan. The animals are closely associated with the mountain ranges, and they venture to lowland terrain only rarely, usually when they are moving between ranges. Ibex form loosely connected groups that focus around springs and other freestanding water sources within the mountain ranges. Their main requirements seem to be precipitous crags, which are safe from direct disturbance because the terrain is inaccessible to domestic goats and shepherds. Ibex are able to climb or descend vertical rock cliffs, especially when they are threatened (Roberts 1997). Ibex have experienced pressures of hunting, human encroachment on habitat, and overgrazing of habitat by domestic livestock (Edge and Olson-Edge 1990), and the total population of ibex in KNP decreased to as few as 200 before legal protection was introduced in 1967 (Roberts 1997). Schaller (in Edge and Olson-Edge 1990) estimated the density of animals within patches of habitat in 1972 and 1973 to be between 3.3 and 4.1/km2. Protection has resulted in significant increases in the population since 1971 (Mirza and Asghar 1980).

ABSTRACT This field trip is designed to highlight recent findings in regard to the tectonic history of the southern Death Valley region. During the first day, stops will take place in the Ibex Hills and adjacent Ibex Pass area. These stops were chosen to emphasize recent work that supports multiple phases of extension in the region, and is recorded by the interactions of complexly overprinted normal faults. Mapping of the Ibex Hills revealed an older set of normal faults that have a down-to-the-SW sense of movement and are cross-cut by down-to-the-NW style normal faults. Additionally, the Ibex Pass basin poses a number of questions regarding its stratigraphy and how it relates to the timing and kinematics of the region. Multiple stops within the basin will show the variation of volcanic and sedimentary units across Ibex Pass. The second day of the field trip is focused more so on the more recent transtensional and strike-slip history of southern Death Valley. In particular, recent mapping has correlated features in the Avawatz and Owlshead Mountains that indicate ~40k m of offset along the Southern Death Valley Fault Zone (SDVFZ). Stops will take place along traces of the SDVFZ in the Avawatz Mountains and the Noble Hills. The final stop of the trip is in the Mormon Point turtleback, where the implications of the SDVFZ offset are discussed, alongside the metamorphic rocks at the stop, suggesting the restoration of the Panamint Range partially atop the Black Mountains.

In this paper we show how agent based social simulation helps us to improve some of the traditional models and theories in financial economics. In particular, we explore the links between the micro-behaviour of investors and the aggregated behaviour of Stock Markets. First, we build an agent based model of an artificial financial market, populated only with rational investors. We observe that the statistical features of this market are in agreement with the theoretical markets suggested by mainstream financial economics, but far away from the features shown by real financial markets, like the Spanish Ibex-35, the Spanish Stock Market main Index. In order to fill the gap, we introduce heterogeneity in the model. We add psychological investors, as suggested by Kahnemen and Tversky (1979), and we are able to reproduce non-normality, excess kurtosis, excess volatility, and volatility clustering. Then, we introduce technical traders, and we also get from the model higher levels of excess volatility and unit roots. In other words, psychological dealers seem to be responsible for volatility clustering, whereas technical traders trend to introduce unit roots into the process. All these “financial patterns” are a common feature not only for Spanish Ibex-35, also the most important stock markets. We conclude that agent based social simulation helps us to fill the gap between economic theory and real markets, as we explain the statistical features of financial time series from the bottom-up.

Gender equality is a debate that is becoming more and more integrated into everyday life, both politically, economically and socially. This paper analyses the situation of gender equality in 10 Spanish listed companies in IBEX 35, the Spanish stock market index par excellence. Specifically, 10 companies from different sectors were chosen in order to find out, firstly, whether there are differences in behaviour between industries within their organisations in this area. Secondly, various common indicators are proposed to be sought in the non-financial reports of the companies, in order to subsequently compare the transparency of data and the way in which they are communicated offered by each of the selected corporations.

IBEX-Hi is an electrostatic analyzer spacecraft instrument designed to measure the energy and flux distribution of energetic neutral atoms (ENAs) emanating from the interaction zone between the Earth’s solar system and the Milky Way galaxy. A key element to this electro-optic instrument is an array of fourteen carbon foils that are used to ionize the ENAs. The foils are comprised of an ultrathin (50–100Å thick) layer of carbon suspended across the surface of an electroformed Nickel wire screen, which in turn is held taught by a metal frame holder. The electroformed orthogonal screen has square wire elements, 12.7 μm thick, with a pitch of 131.1 wires/cm. Each foil holder has an open aperture approximately 5 cm by 2.5 cm. Designing and implementing foil holders with such a large surface area has not been attempted for spaceflight in the past and has proven to be extremely challenging. The delicate carbon foils are subject to fatigue failure from the large acoustic and vibration loads that they will be exposed to during launch of the spacecraft. This paper describes the evolution of the foil holder design from previous space instrument applications to a flight-like IBEX-Hi prototype. Vibro-acoustic qualification tests of the IBEX-Hi prototype instrument and the resulting failure of several foils are summarized. This is followed by a discussion of iterative foil holder design modifications and laser vibrometer modal testing to support future fatigue failure analyses. The results of these activities indicate that there is no strong dependency of the natural frequencies or transmissibilities of the foils on the different foil holder and screen configurations. However, for all foil holder designs, the natural frequencies of the foils were observed to decrease noticeably from exposure to acoustic testing. These test results, when combined with foil holder assembly considerations, suggest that the welded frame and integrated screen designs should be incorporated into the architecture of the IBEX-Hi flight instrument.

Iterative Budgeted Exponential Search (IBEX) is a general search algorithm that can limit the number of re-expansions performed in common problems like iterative-deepening tree search and search with inconsistent heuristics. IBEX has been adapted into a specific tree algorithm, Budgeted Tree Search (BTS), which behaves like IDA* when the problem instance is well-behaved but keeps the worst-case guarantees when problems are not well-behaved. The analogous algorithms on graphs, Budgeted Graph Search (BGS), do not have these same properties. This paper reformulates BGS into Efficient Budgeted Graph Search (BGSe), showing how to implement the algorithm so that it behaves identically to A* when problems are well-behaved, and retains the best-case performance otherwise. Experimental results validate the performance of BGSe on a range of theoretical and practical problem instances.

This paper presents the computational models used by the authors at MARETEC/IST for hydrodynamic design and analysis of horizontal axis marine current turbines. The models combine a lifting line method for the optimization of the turbine blade geometry and an Integral Boundary Element Method (IBEM) for the hydrodynamic analysis. The classical lifting line optimization is used to determine the optimum blade circulation distribution for maximum power extraction. Blade geometry is determined with simplified cavitation requirements and limitations due to mechanical strength. The application of the design procedure is illustrated for a two-bladed 300 kW marine current turbine with a diameter of 11 meters. The effects of design tip-speed-ratio and the influence of blade section foils on power and cavitation inception are discussed. A more complete analysis may be carried out with an IBEM in steady and unsteady flow conditions. The IBEM has been extended to include wake alignment. The results are compared with experimental performance data available in the literature.

In this paper we analyze five big data algorithmic trading systems based on artificial intelligence models that uses as predictors stats from Google Trends of dozens of financial terms. The systems were trained using monthly data from 2004 to 2017 and have been tested in a prospective way from January 2017 to February 2018. The performance of this systems shows that Google Trends is a good metric for global Investors’ Mood. Systems for Ibex and Eurostoxx are not profitable but Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq systems has been profitable using long and short positions during the period studied. This evidence opens a new field for the investigation of trading systems based on big data instead of Chartism.

Control signaling messages in Mobile IPv6 are mainly used to inform the home agent (HA) and the correspondent node (CN) about the mobile node’s (MN’s) new address when its network attachment point is changed. In order to prevent various security attacks, these messages must be protected. In the current standard, the control signaling messages between a HA and a MN are authenticated using IPSec, often with IKEv2 and X.509 certificates. Control signaling messages between a MN and a CN are currently protected by an effective but insecure protocol, known as Return Routability. Using IBE (Identity-Based Encryption) for authenticating control signaling messages requires more processing power but significant security enhancements are achieved. The current protocols for protecting control signaling messages are outlined in this paper. Proposed approaches for implementing IBE-authentication between a MN and a HA as well as between a MN and a CN are presented. Environments where the MN and the CN use the same Public Key Generator (PKG) as well as environments where they use different PKGs are taken into account. Finally, the performance of some proposed signaling protocols is estimated. An overview of IBE is given and the elements and operations needed to set up an IBE infrastructure are described in an appendix.

Efficient luminescence from crystalline silicon (x-Si) could be an important step toward the goal of integrating optics and modern electronics. The light emitted from the recombination of an exciton bound to an isoelectronic impurity has shown promise as a possible way this goal could be achieved. The recent discovery of sulfur as an impurity which exhibits isoelectronic bound exciton (IBE) emission1 at λ = 1.32 μm has prompted the study of other chalcogens for similar behavior. We report the results of an investigation of photoluminescence (PL) from x-Si samples that contain selenium and oxygen impurities. Typically, the samples were treated in the same manner as the sulfur-doped samples in Ref. 1. Results from experiments investigating the temperature dependence of the IBE lifetime and the PL spectrum are presented and compared with similar experiments involving sulfur.

The COVID-19 outbreak caused several concerns all over the world. On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a global health emergency. This outbreak leads to a drastic change in people's lifestyles, causing lots of job losses all over the world and threaten the livelihood of millions of people since the firms closed to avoid virus propagation. In general, all economic activities were interrupted, and the stock markets had significant breaks. Due to these events, this essay pretends to analyse the efficiency, in its weak form, in the stock market indexes of France (CAC40), China (SSEC), South Korea (KOSPI), Germany (DAX 30), Italy (FTSE MID), Portugal (PSI 20), and Spain (IBEX 35), in the period of December 31, 2019, to August 10, 2020. To accomplish this research, different approaches were taken to analyse whether: (i) the countries affected by the global pandemic (COVID-19) caused (in) efficiency in their stock markets? The results suggest that the hypothesis of random walk in all the markets under study was rejected. Variance ratios' values are, in all cases, lower than the unity, which implies that the returns are auto correlated over time, and there is a reversion to the mean, in all indexes. The exponents Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA), indicate significant long memories, i.e. they validate the results of the non-parametric test of Wright (2000), which comprises two types of tests, the Position test (Rankings) for homoscedastic series, and the Signal test for heteroscedastic series. These findings show that prices do not fully reflect the information available and that changes in prices are not independent and identically distributed. This situation has implications for investors since some returns can be expectable, creating opportunities for arbitrage and abnormal earnings. These conclusions also open space for market regulators to take measures to ensure better information in these regional markets.
