Analyze of performed on the colors used in Rustling wind, especially in terms of the depictions of characters and scenes. Then research on the canonization of Rustling wind in 1990s.Finally, this chapter also delves into philosophical thoughts of Rustling wind . Chapter Four :The Hong Kong Period (1950-1980 ) Xu Xu's emigrating experience in 1950s that effects on his character and writing in Hong Kong period. Xu Xu had already changed love theoretical model. He used the image of dancer's walking stick ,which called love into question. His hope was so high he had been doomed to disappointment. Therefore his writing was trying to approach universe in harmony realm, such as The other side ,Time and tide and The wandering. CONCLUSION According to previous studies, which focused on discussion of Xu Xu’s fiction of the Shanghai period the Chongqing period and the Hong Kong period. The main purpose of this paper is not only to fill the vacancy of previous studies, but also to add in synchronic and diachronic study of Xu Xu’s fiction to discuss. The results is different from previous research. After analysis, the reader can understand that Xu Xu's central idea about platonic love of the Shanghai period. At last, his fiction creation changed from romance to “the other side”. His artistic creativity reached a peak by “The Wandering” in the Hong Kong period. "1940-1950年代香港虛構文學中的文化身份". 2013. http://library.cuhk.edu.hk/record=b5549276.
This study purports to describe the transformation of cultural identities in the fictions written about Hong Kong in the 1940s and 1950s. As a critical period of transition, the 1940s and 1950s Hong Kong literature witnessed the emergence of a distinctive cultural awareness. Through the examination of two commonly used (abused) stereotypes, namely, Hong Kong as port and Hong Kong as female in the fictional writings of this period, this study aims at elaborating how writers from different cultural perspectives draw upon and undermine these stereotypes and bring out features that give rise to a distinctive Hong Kong cultural awareness. Taking the postcolonial theoretical approach, I examine five works of Hong Kong literature within the proposed timeframe, “Aloeswood Incense: The First Brazier“ (1943) and “Love in a Fallen City“ (1943) by Eileen Chang, A Many Splendoured Thing (1952) by Han Suyin, “Foggy Hong Kong“ (1956) by Shu Xiangcheng and The World of Suzie Wong (1957) by Richard Mason, in order to elaborate the distinctiveness of Hong Kong cultural awareness.
The study is divided into five chapters. It begins with an overview of Hong Kong literature in the 1940s and 1950s, its nomenclature and problematics. Then in the second chapter, an analysis of postcolonial theories is provided in order to facilitate the discussion. Concepts like cultural identity, diaspora, Orientalism and hybridity are discussed in relation to the selected works of Hong Kong literature. Chapter two and chapter three focus on the reinscriptions of the two aforementioned stereotypes in which features of Hong Kong cultural identities are perceivable. These two chapters elaborate the individual renderings of cultural identities in the selected stories as against the collective identity representation, thus leading to the concluding chapter.
