The textbook presents the main range of issues in molecular biology — the most rapidly developing area of biological science. In the monograph the literature information about the nature of stochastic processes and their participation in the work of the brain and human behavior. Established that the real cognitive processes and mental functions associated with the procedural side of external events and the stochastic properties of the internal dynamics of brain systems in the form of fluctuations of their parameters, including cardiac rhythm generation and sensorimotor reactions. Experimentally proved that the dynamics of the measured physiological processes is in the range from chaotic regime to a weakly deterministic — fractal mode. Fractal mode determines the maximum order and organization homeostasis of cognitive processes and States, as well as high adaptive ability of the body systems with fractal properties. The fractal-chaotic dynamics is a useful quality to examine the actual physiological and psychological systems - a unique numerical identification of the order and randomness of the processes through calculation of fractal indices. The monograph represents the results of many years of experimental studies of the reflection properties of stochastic sensorimotor reactions, as well as stochastic properties of heart rate in children, Teens and adults in the age aspect in the speech activity and the perception of different kinds of music with its own frequency-spectral structure. The monograph is devoted to the methodology of material and technical support of railway transport. According to the types of activities, the nature of the material and technical resources used, technologies, means and management systems, Russian railways belong to the category of high-tech industries that must have high quality and technical level, reliability and technological efficiency in operation. For this reason, the logistics system itself, both in structure and in the algorithm of the functions performed as a whole, needs a serious improvement in the quality of its work. The economic situation in Russia requires a revision of the principles and mechanisms of management based on the corporate model of supply chain management, focused on logistics knowledge. In the difficult economic conditions of the current decade, it is necessary to improve the quality of the supply organization of enterprises and structural divisions of railway transport, directly related to the implementation of the process approach, the advantage of which is a more detailed regulation of management actions and their mutual coordination. In order to increase the efficiency of its activities and develop the management system, Russian Railways is developing a lean production system aimed at further expanding the implementation of the principles of customer orientation, ideology and corporate culture. At the present time, the solution of many issues is impossible without a cybernetic approach to the formulation of problems of material and technical support and logistics analysis of information technologies, to the implementation of the developed algorithms and models of development strategies and concepts for improving the business processes of the production system. The management strategy, or the general plan for the implementation of activities for the management of material resources, is based on a fundamental assessment of the alignment and correlation of forces and factors operating in the economic and political field, taking into account the impact on the specific form of the management strategy. The materials will be useful to the heads and specialists of the directorates of the MTO, CDZs and can be used in the scientific research of bachelors, masters and postgraduates interested in the economics of railway transport and supply logistics.

Resumo:

There is an interesting tension that exists within the HRM literature with regard to employment subsystems. On the one hand, a clear pattern is emerging in strategic HRM research that suggests that HR systems geared toward increased commitment and employee involvement can have a dramatic impact on organizational outcomes. Terms such as commitment-oriented HR systems, high-performance work systems, high-involvement HRM, and the like exude a connotation of extensive investment in, and reliance on, employees. This article first reviews the ‘HR architecture’ to provide a backdrop for our discussion of employment subsystems and changing forms of employment. Second, it examines the implications of globalization, strategy, and managing knowledge flows for how companies structure their portfolio of employment subsystems. Throughout the discussion it offers suggestions for future research.

When Children Refuse School: A Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Approach, Parent Workbook is designed to help parents work with a therapist to help their children who currently have difficulties attending school. This workbook defines school refusal behavior, describes how situations might be evaluated, and shows what parents and therapists can do to get children back into school with less distress. Parents should use this workbook with a qualified therapist who is concurrently using the therapist guide to treat the child’s school refusal behavior. Problematic school absenteeism is the primary focus of the treatment program covered in the workbook. Youths who complete high school are more likely to be successful at social, academic, occupational, and economic aspects of functioning than youths who do not. Youths with problematic school absenteeism are at risk for lower academic performance and achievement, lower reading and mathematics test scores, fewer literacy skills, internalizing and externalizing behavior problems, grade retention, involvement with the juvenile justice system, and dropout. The treatment program presented in this guide is designed for youths with primary and acute school refusal behavior. The program is based on a functional model of school refusal behavior that classifies youths on the basis of what reinforces their absenteeism.

This chapter discusses Ray Bradbury's achievement in fiction as a student at Los Angeles High School and his membership in Science Fiction League (SFL). It begins with a discussion of Bradbury's early obsession with Hollywood, as seen in his snapshots of scores of Hollywood stars and in more than a thousand autographs of Hollywood personalities, as well as with radio. It then considers Bradbury's fascination with the concept of space and on space and time travel during his time at Los Angeles High School; his participation in the activities of the Los Angeles SFL and editorial work with the organization; and his involvement with the school's poetry club known as “The Ink Beasts.” It also discusses how Bradbury's narratives were inspired by science fiction and fantasy pulps, such as those of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Finally, it recounts Bradbury's performance at a school production in May 1938.

In this chapter, we explore several dynamics associated with multiteam system (MTS) creativity and innovation. To develop successful creative solutions to large-scale problems, information and ideas often need to be shared not only with other individuals in a team but also among members from other teams. Within this MTS structure, diversity can also have an important influence on the resulting innovation. It can take many forms, including interorganizational differences; differences in work interdependence, goals, and goal structures; and various characteristics of the MTS component teams such as functional diversity, geographic dispersion, and national culture. Although MTSs often have traits that can lead to high creativity and innovation, their structures can also give rise to strong team differentiation, which can inhibit team creativity and innovation.

This chapter explores geographical approaches to financial systems, with special attention to their instability. After examining the foundational contributions that launched the geography of finance, the chapter summarizes spatial research on the global spread of innovative practices in finance. It then asks why so little attention was paid to macro-aspects of financial crises prior to September 2008. A review of geographers’ research of sub-prime lending and crisis finds that this work, extensive as it is in analyzing the microfoundational aspects of sub-prime lending and securitization, pays no attention to the macro-dimension of financial instability. This lacuna is shared with mainstream macroeconomics, which famously failed to see the sub-prime crisis coming. The chapter then explores economist Hyman Minsky’s macro-approach to financial instability and crisis. The chapter concludes by arguing that developing a spatial analysis of financial instability should be a high priority for the emerging geography of finance.

This chapter reviews the literature on quality of life and functional impairment in body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and discusses important lines of future research. Quality of life and psychosocial functioning are often poor in individuals with BDD. This is the case across multiple domains, including social, occupational, academic, and physical functioning. BDD symptoms often directly interfere with a person’s ability and willingness to engage in activities of daily living. Individuals with BDD frequently have high levels of social avoidance, which interferes with the development and maintenance of relationships and involvement in social, work, and educational activities. Rates of unemployment and disability are high. Several clinical correlates of BDD are also associated with psychosocial functioning and quality of life—most notably, greater severity of BDD symptoms and comorbid major depressive disorder.

This article describes maritime archaeology in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The first explorations of the Gulf was undertaken in the sixteenth century. The ability to conduct archaeological work in this region is hindered by many environmental factors. The coastal topography is often shallow, necessitating the use of smaller vessels for easy bay and riverine entry. High-visibility dives environments in some areas of the Gulf facilitate discovery and recordation of wreck sites. Government involvement and intervention has led to the protection of some archaeological sites. Remote sensing surveys have identified some of the oldest shipwrecks in the gulf in the North American region. This article summarizes this area's specific shipwreck sites and emphasizes historical events that relate to archaeological discoveries through case studies. Improved data-collection techniques and public outreach can aid in discovering and protecting the Gulf's maritime cultural resources.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is much more than just joint disease. Although previous clinical classifications have categorized by pattern of joint involvement and axial disease, imaging techniques such as MRI and ultrasound have demonstrated that not only are many more joints involved but also a wide variety of adjoining tissues. The concept of enthesitis is evolving and high resolution imaging studies are demonstrating involvement of tissues beyond just the enthesis. Many investigators have chosen to use sonographic entheseal systems designed for Spondyloarthritis in general which may not be appropriate and may lead to excess confounding by obesity. Inclusion of entheses that seem more relevant to PsA may improve the validity and specificity of the sonographic outcome tool. Nail affliction is associated with PsA, as well as enthesitis. Sonography is able to demonstrate the nail apparatus. More recent pathoanatomic findings may help explain the close link with enthesitis. Synovitis in PsA is often involved with inflammation and alteration of neighbouring structures such as the extensor tendons, palmar or plantar plates. Some investigators have proposed that inflammation in PsA may start at the entheseal sites and then spread to the joint. Dactylitis epitomizes the concept of multiple tissues involved in the digit giving rise to the clinical appearance of a uniformly swollen digit. Sonography can image many of these tissues in high resolution and offer insights into the pathophysiology of dactylitis.

Phantom limbs pose a philosophical problem about the location of pains. The work of Descartes first used them to make a philosophical point about the brain in relation to the body. They have traditionally been thought of as being due to nerve endings on the pathway to the original limb being activated. Resumo:

Crafting prevention and intervention strategies for peer bullying, aggression, and suicidality in youth is a complex, multifaceted task. Involvement in bullying and peer aggression is accompanied by numerous psychosocial consequences, including suicidal ideation and behavior. Care must be taken to examine this relationship in an objective, evidence-based manner, rather than overattributing or causally relating youth suicidality to bullying. Mental health professionals, medical providers, teachers, and school administrators are uniquely positioned to intervene in the risk factors that impact bullying and suicidality in youth. Taking an ecological systems perspective, this chapter will review extant efforts to ameliorate bullying, aggression, and suicidality in children and adolescents, with a focus on individual- and group-level protective factors that can facilitate positive health and academic outcomes. Recommendations for providers, educators, parents, policymakers, and researchers offer evidence-based guidance for future work in these domains.
