Objective To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the community-based cardiac rehabilitation (CBCR) program that we had developed. Methods Individuals aged >40 years with cardiovascular disease or its risk factors who were residing in a rural area were recruited as study subjects. The CBCR program, which consisted of 10 education sessions and 20 weeks of customized exercises (twice a week), was conducted in a public health center for 22 weeks. Comprehensive outcomes including body weight, blood glucose level, and 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) were measured at baseline, 11th week, and completion. Furthermore, the outcomes of young-old (65–74 years) and old-old (≥75 years) female subjects were compared. Results Of 31 subjects, 21 completed the program (completion rate, 67.7%). No adverse events were observed, and none of the subjects discontinued the exercise program because of chest pain, dyspnea, and increased blood pressure. Body weight and blood glucose level were significantly decreased, and 6MWD was significantly increased following program implementation (p<0.05). Both young-old and old-old women exhibited an improvement in blood glucose level and 6MWD test (p<0.05).Conclusion We reported the results of the first attempted CBCR in South Korea that was implemented without adverse events during the entire program. Improved aerobic exercise ability and reduced risk factors in all participants were observed. These improvements were also achieved by older adults aged ≥75 years.

Objective To investigate the epidemiologic and demographic characteristics of patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) who were admitted to a department of rehabilitation of a university hospital. Methods This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Medical records including sex, age at injury, type of disability, traumatic or non-traumatic etiology and presence of ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) of patients with SCI who were admitted to the department of rehabilitation between 2012 and 2018 were reviewed. Results Of the 221 cases of SCI, 161 were traumatic and 60 were non-traumatic. The mean age at injury was 52.8 years. People aged 40–49 years showed highest proportion among overall SCI patients (19.0%). The proportion of male patients was higher in traumatic SCI at 4.96:1 than in non-traumatic SCI at 1.30:1. The most common cause of traumatic SCI was falling off (37.3%), followed by motor vehicle crash (35.4%) and tripping over (19.3%). Meanwhile, the most common cause of non-traumatic SCI was neoplasm (35.0%). Tripping over was the leading cause of traumatic SCI in patients aged ≥60 years (42.6%). A high proportion of traumatic SCI patients were found to have underlying OPLL (26.1%), particularly those who were injured by tripping over (64.5%).Conclusion The mean age of SCI patients was higher than that of previous studies. Falls was the single most common cause of traumatic SCI, and tripping over was the most common cause of injury in the elderly patients. OPLL was prevalent in patients who were injured from tripping over.

The growth and development of infants is a golden period which is also a critical period in a person's development in early life at the age of 0-12 months. Motor development disorder is a disorder that causes developmental delays due to many things, including abnormalities in muscle tone and lack of stimulation for the baby. In Indonesia alone, there are 5-10% of children are estimated to experience developmental delays. At the simultaneous weighing of toddlers in Demak in 2020 it was found that out of 97,129 toddlers, there were 7.71% experienced developmental delays. Data from the Guntur 1 Demak Health Center from 2021 to June states that the number of babies aged 0-12 months is 523 babies. The lack of knowledge of the baby's parents about growth and development and the little stimulation given to the baby both from caregivers and from the baby's parents makes most babies experience developmental delays. One of the efforts to reduce the number of developmental disorders is by providing Baby Gym stimulation. In infants, Baby Gym is a form of exercise to help stimulate the growth and development of the baby's nervous and motoric systems optimally. This study aimed to determine the effect of the baby gym on gross motor development in infants aged 3-4 months at the Guntur I Health Center in Demak. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pre-test and post-test research design. The sampling technique here is based on the purposive sampling method, with a population of 28 babies and a total sample of 16 babies. Based on bivariate analysis using the Wilxocon correlation test, it was obtained a p-value of 0.000 <0.05, it can be concluded 'that there is an effect of differences in gross motor development of infants aged 3-4 months before and after being given a baby gym at the Guntur I Health Center in Demak". Early marriage, which is marrying children who are still under 20 years old, shows the immaturity of parents' thinking. This situation triggers a parental problem-solving response based on immature thinking. Growth is an increase in the size and number of cells, as well as intercellular tissue, which means an increase in physical structure so that weight (kg) length (cm) and head circumference (cm) can be measured. This study aims to find out "The relationship between early marriage and the growth of children aged 2 years in the working area of the Pammana Public Health Center, Wajo Regency in 2022. The research design used was a cross-sectional study with an observational type. This study uses a total sampling with 30 respondents processing data with Microsoft Excel and SPSS. There is a relationship between early marriage and the growth of children aged 2 years with the results of the chi-square test p = 0.007 and <0.05. There is a relationship between early marriage and the growth of children aged 2 years in the work area of the Pammana Health Center, Wajo Regency in 2022, where the younger the age of marriage, the more susceptible to child growth disorders. So it is hoped that integrated care and supervision health services can be implemented to reduce the risk of early marriage and growth disorders in children.

The rehabilitation center operates on the basis of the sanatorium boarding school No. 25 at the CITO. The sanatorium boarding school was organized in 1992 and is designed for the education and treatment of 150 children aged 6 to 16-17. A typical school building after a major overhaul was converted into an educational and medical institution. The boarding school works on a five-day week, children spend weekends at home. Unlike other similar institutions that exist in Moscow and some regions of Russia, boarding school No. 25 does not specialize in the rehabilitation treatment of patients with pathology of any one system of the musculoskeletal system (spine, large joints, etc.). The main task of the center is to provide qualified rehabilitation assistance to children suffering from a wide variety of orthopedic pathologies, as well as those who have suffered injuries of the joints, limbs, spine, etc. This report is devoted to the analysis of treatment at the center for children suffering from scoliosis. This contingent of patients here is about 60% of the total number of patients.

The aim of this study was to identify, substantiate, and test the possibilities for developing higher cognitive functions, i.e., memory and concentration, in young residents of a social rehabilitation center. The experiment involved 156 subjects: 100 pupils from the social rehabilitation center and 56 children from comprehensive secondary schools aged 7–9 (M = 8.33; SD = 11.47). The diagnostic measures included the following techniques: Landolt Rings (E. Landolt), Remember and Dot (V. Bogomolov), Ten Words (A. R. Luria), Image Memory (S. A. Rimskaya), Retell a Story (A. F. Anufriev, S. N. Kostromina), Diagnostics of Mediated Memory (R. S. Nemov). The experimental group had poorer memory and lower average indicators for concentration and such attention characteristics as set-shifting, distribution, stability, and volume. In the control group, the mean values remained within the norm. A tailored program for developing higher cognitive functions triggered positive dynamics in memory and attention parameters in the children from the social rehabilitation center, whose cognitive functions are at risk at the primary school age. However, the targeted development of higher mental functions was able to improve their attention and memory.

We investigated the usefulness and effectiveness of tele-rehabilitation on exercise capacity in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). A randomized study was carried out, including stable patients with IPF for 3 months of tele-rehabilitation: video and chat consultations with a physiotherapist and workout sessions with a virtual physiotherapist agent (VAPA). Moreover, 6-min walk test distance (6MWTD), forced vital capacity (FVC), diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO), 7 days pedometry, Saint George Respiratory Questionnaire for interstitial lung disease, The King’s Brief Interstitial Lung Disease Questionnaire, and General Anxiety Disorder 7 Questionnaire were tested before and after 3 months of tele-rehabilitation, as well as after 3 and 6 months follow-up. Patient satisfaction and adherence were also measured for tele-rehabilitation with VAPA. Twenty-nine patients aged 70.9 ± 8.6 years, male 72.4%, FVC% 83.5 ± 17.7, DLCO% 50.6 ± 13.0, 6MWTD 468.4 ± 14.8 were included. Fifteen patients were randomized to tele-rehabilitation with VAPA and 14 to the control group. Differences in 6MWTD between groups were at baseline (+10 m (p = 0.11)) and after 3 (+39.5 m (p = 0.03)), 6 (+34.3 m (p = 0.02)), and 9 months (+40.5 m (p = 0.15)) follow-up. No difference was observed in pedometry and quality of life. Adherence was above 63%. Patient satisfaction was high. Tele-rehabilitation with VAPA appears to be useful in patients with IPF. Exercise capacity was better at follow up at 3 and 6 months compared with the control group. There was no change in quality of life or pedometry. Adherence and patient satisfaction were all high.

The authors studied associations of nature- and infrastructure-based features with physical activity (PA) in different urban neighborhood types; 848 community-dwelling people aged 75–90 years reported PA and three perceived nature-based destinations and seven infrastructure-based features as outdoor mobility facilitators. Neighborhood type was defined using a geographic information system based on proximity to central service areas and residential density (city center, subcenter, and dense and dispersed areas outside centers). PA was higher in dense areas and the city center. Binary logistic regression showed that perceiving nature-based destinations increased the odds for higher PA in the city center and areas outside centers. In dispersed areas, perceived infrastructure-based facilitators were especially associated with higher PA. Environmental features were not associated with PA in subcenters. Higher residential density, as a proxy for a higher amount of infrastructure, rather than center proximity, may underlie older adults’ PA. The spatial context should be acknowledged in studies on environment–PA associations.

Abstract Introduction: Pneumopathies are defined as a group of respiratory diseases. Physiotherapy centers are a conventional treatment option which can help prevent and treat various pulmonary conditions. Objective: To characterize elderly persons with pneumopathies admitted for pulmonary rehabilitation. Methods: 84 elderly persons were admitted for pulmonary rehabilitation. Patients diagnosed with pulmonary disease and aged ≥60 years were included in the study. The following variables were analyzed: gender, age, marital status, profession, medical diagnosis, main medical complaint, associated diseases, and cardiovascular risk factors. Results: The most common lung disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (26.2%). Women showed a greater association with asthma [odds ratio (OR)=5.875; p=0.010]. Dyspnea was the most prevalent main complaint among this population (50%). Among the main complaints, difficulty walking was more associated with men (OR=2.85; p=0.055). Strokes were the main disease most commonly associated with pneumopathies (12.1%). Women had a greater association with other diseases (OR=5.34, p=0.068), especially when two diseases were presented simultaneously with lung disease (OR=2.32, p=0.041). Among the risk factors, physical inactivity (OR=3.33), alcohol consumption (OR=0.046) and history of smoking (OR=3.00) were significantly associated with men, while depression (OR=5.67) was significantly associated with women. Women exhibited a 3.28 greater association between allergies and pneumopathies than men (p=0.013). The practice of physical activity was more associated with women (OR=3.89; p=0.03). Osteoporosis was more prevalent among elderly women with pulmonary disease (OR=10.75; p<0.0001), and was also significantly associated with a history of smoking (OR=4.31; p=0.009). Conclusion: The most frequent diagnosis, main complaint and associated disease were COPD, dyspnea and strokes, respectively. Elderly woman exhibited a greater association with the diagnosis of bronchial asthma, and more diseases associated with lung disease. Physical inactivity, difficulty walking, and a history of alcohol consumption and smoking are more associated with men, while depression, the presence of allergies, regular physical activity and osteoporosis are more associated with women. Thus, the results demonstrate that these individuals have specific characteristics.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to investigate the prevalence of the ear canal collapse when using supra-aural earphones and to verify if this event is influenced by sex, age, color of the skin and prominent ear. Methods: the collapse was assessed by a visual inspection after the positioning of a detached cushion, pressured against the external ear. Results: a total of 436 individuals, aged 3 to 97 years, participated in the study. Ear canal collapse was observed in 11.4% of the subjects, being mostly bilateral (90.0%). The prevalence ranged from 6.3% to 36.6% across age groups. Males, aged 65 years or above and presence of prominent ear were independently identified as associated factors for the occurrence of ear canal collapse (p<0.05). Despite a higher prevalence for those self-identified as white skinned when compared to non-whites, the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: the ear canal collapse, when supra-aural earphones are used, is more likely to occur in men, in elderly people, and among those with prominent ears. The prevalence of the event in this population raises the necessity of a careful examination, previous to any evaluation using supra-aural earphones.

Background: Pain after spine surgery is usually managed with opioid and nonopioids. The rate of lumbar spine surgeries (LSS) is rising, but current practices on LSS are not known. A current trend in LSS and medication usage by age group is needed to gain a better understanding of how LSS and its pain management vary by age. Objective: The aim of this study was to report current practices of LSS of discectomy, laminectomy, and fusion in patients aged 18 and older and to gain an understanding of medication use for management of LSS. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data of the University of Kansas Medical Center from 2007 to 2014 of patients (>18 years of age) undergoing laminectomy, discectomy, and fusion. Results: A total of 19 463 patients underwent LSS between 2007 and 2014 at Kansas University hospital. For the purpose of this study, 3115 patients’ medical records were observed. A 50% increase in LSS between 2007 and 2014 was noted. Specifically, more than 2-fold increase in LSS was observed in patients aged 65 years and older. Among those aged 65 years and older, laminectomy was the most commonly performed surgery (69.6%) while discectomy was the most common surgery performed among those aged 18 to 34 (82.9%) and those aged 35 to 44 (72%). The medication use also increased with a highest usage in opioids alone (55%), followed by opioids combined with other analgesics (42.7%), regardless of lumbar surgery type or age. Conclusion: The information of increase in both LSS and the medication usage over the 7 years can be used to gain a better understanding of quality, expenditure, and outcomes following LSS. This knowledge may help health care providers plan patient care and rehabilitation services for older adults, as the trajectory of lumbar spine surgery is likely to rise with growing prevalence of older adults. The information regarding increased opioid utilization may also help clinicians to refine opioid usage and consider alternative approaches to manage acute postoperative pain, in light of the current concerns related to overutilization of opioids.

The purpose of this study was to examine the association between self-reported physical activity (PA) and mean common carotid artery intima–media thickness (CCA IMT) among older adults. The data are from 1,811 Cooper Center Longitudinal Study participants, who were aged ≥60 years, with no history of cardiovascular disease. A medical history questionnaire was used to assess PA. Carotid ultrasound was performed to measure CCA IMT and the presence of plaque and stenosis. Logistic regression models were constructed to estimate the association between PA and CCA IMT after adjustment for covariates. The participants were aged 69.2 ± 5.9 years, and the majority were male (73.3%) and White (96.7%). The odds ratio of abnormal thickening of CCA IMT was 0.72 (95% confidence interval [0.54, 0.96]) in physically active participants (≥500 metabolic equivalent·min/week) after adjustment for covariates. In the current study, meeting PA guidelines in older adulthood was associated with lower odds of abnormal thickening of CCA IMT.

Objective To identify the prevalence and characteristics of neuropathic pain (NP) in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) and to investigate associations between NP and demographic or disease-related variables. Methods We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients with SCI whose pain was classified according to the International Spinal Cord Injury Pain classifications at a single hospital. Multiple statistical analyses were employed. Patients aged <19 years, and patients with other neurological disorders and congenital conditions were excluded. Results Of 366 patients, 253 patients (69.1%) with SCI had NP. Patients who were married or had traumatic injury or depressive mood had a higher prevalence rate. When other variables were controlled, marital status and depressive mood were found to be predictors of NP. There was no association between the prevalence of NP and other demographic or clinical variables. The mean Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) of NP was 4.52, and patients mainly described pain as tingling, squeezing, and painful cold. Females and those with below-level NP reported more intense pain. An NRS cut-off value of 4.5 was determined as the most appropriate value to discriminate between patients taking pain medication and those who did not. Conclusion In total, 69.1% of patients with SCI complained of NP, indicating that NP was a major complication. Treatment planning for patients with SCI and NP should consider that marital status, mood, sex, and pain subtype may affect NP, which should be actively managed in patients with an NRS ≥4.5.

The presence of multimorbidity in middle-aged and older adults, which reduces their physical activity and quality of life, is a global health challenge. Exercise is one of the most important health behaviors that individuals can engage in. Previous studies have revealed that aerobic exercise training is beneficial for healthy middle-aged and older adults and those with various chronic diseases, but few studies have designed individualized aerobic exercise training for individuals with multimorbidity. Although individuals with multimorbidity are considerably less adherent to physical activity interventions, telephone-based motivational interviewing may help in strengthening motivation and promoting behavioral change for increasing physical activity and health-related physical fitness. This study aimed to examine whether a 12-week individualized aerobic exercise training in a rehabilitation center combined with telephone-based motivational interviewing is effective in promoting physical activity and health-related physical fitness among middle-aged and older adults with multimorbidity. A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Forty-three participants (aged > 40) were recruited and randomly assigned to the intervention group, comparison group, or control group. The participants’ physical activity and health-related physical fitness were assessed at baseline and at 12 weeks. The results indicated that after individualized aerobic exercise training combined with telephone-based motivational interviewing, the participants reported increased total physical activity (Fin = 481.3, p = 0.011), vigorous-intensity physical activity (Fin= 298.9, p = 0.007), dominant and nondominant hand grip (kg) (Fin = 1.96, p = 0.019; Fin = 2.19, p = 0.027, respectively), FEV1/FVC (Fin = 0.045, p = 0.043), VO2 max (ml/kg/min) (Fin = 5.30, p = 0.001), VO2 max predicted (%) (Fin = 21.6, p = 0.001), work (watts) (Fin = 22.5, p = 0.001), and anaerobic threshold (L/min) (Fin = 0.165, p = 0.011). Twelve weeks of individualized aerobic exercise training in the rehabilitation center combined with telephone-based motivational interviewing can increase the total physical activity, vigorous physical activity, and cardiorespiratory fitness of middle-aged and older adults with multimorbidity.

Background. Spasticity is common in patients with stroke, yet current quantification methods are insufficient for determining the relationship between spasticity and voluntary movement deficits. This is partly a result of the effects of spasticity on spatiotemporal characteristics of movement and the variability of voluntary movement. These can be captured by Gaussian mixture models (GMMs). Objectives. To determine the influence of spasticity on upper-limb voluntary motion, as assessed by the bidirectional Kullback-Liebler divergence (BKLD) between motion GMMs. Methods. A total of 16 individuals with subacute stroke and 13 healthy aged-equivalent controls reached to grasp 4 targets (near-center, contralateral, far-center, and ipsilateral). Two-dimensional GMMs (angle and time) were estimated for elbow extension motion. BKLD was computed for each individual and target, within the control group and between the control and stroke groups. Movement time, final elbow angle, average elbow velocity, and velocity smoothness were computed. Results. Between-group BKLDs were much larger than within control-group BKLDs. Between-group BKLDs for the near-center target were lower than those for the far-center and contralateral targets, but similar to that for the ipsilateral target. For those with stroke, the final angle was lower for the near-center target, and the average velocity was higher. Velocity smoothness was lower for the near-center than for the ipsilateral target. Elbow flexor and extensor passive muscle resistance (Modified Ashworth Scale) strongly explained BKLD values. Conclusions. Results support the view that individuals with poststroke spasticity have a velocity-dependent reduction in active elbow joint range and that BKLD can be used as an objective measure of the effects of spasticity on reaching kinematics.

Introduction. In a medical center for rehabilitation treatment, the vast majority of military patients are people of middle age (45–59 years according to the WHO classifi cation) and older. Many of them participated in combat activities, special operations, and had injuries of various limitation periods. With age, the number of degenerative changes in the connective tissue, musculoskeletal system, and nervous system increases, which creates biomechanical conditions for the occurrence of acute and chronic pain syndrome of varying intensity. The goal of research — to study the effectiveness and safety of kinesiotherapy in patients of middle and older age groups with acute and chronic pain syndrome.Materials and methods. From February 2017 to July 2018, a prospective study was carried out in the Medical Center for Rehabilitation Treatment (Korolev), P. V. Mandryka Central Military Clinical Hospital. Patient selection and sampling was carried out by the continuous method. 154 military patients underwent treatment at the Medical Center for Rehabilitation Treatment (Korolev), P. V. Mandryka Central Military Clinical Hospital under our supervision. All patients suffered from acute and chronic pain. Kinesiotherapy was used as a treatment method. All patients were assessed for the severity of pain before treatment, on the fi rst and fi fth days. The safety of the method was evaluated by observing local irritation reactions and systemic allergic reactions.Results. Kinesiotherapy in the treatment of military patients with acute and chronic pain syndrome allows to reduce the severity of pain, in accordance with the results of the assessment on the fi rst and the fi fth days (differences are statistically signifi cant, p<0,05, Student′s t-test). This treatment method showed high (69,4 %) effectiveness and safety (not a single case of systemic allergic reactions, 4,1 % of cases with local irritation reactions).Conclusion. This treatment method can be used in cases of acute and chronic myofascial pain syndrome in a hospital setting in middle-aged and older patients. Its use is possible both for quick and prolonged improvement (during 5 days) of the patients′ condition.

Few studies have examined the efficacy gait plate insole in in-toeing. we used more precise apparatus than previous studies. Objectives:The aim of this study was to investigate the immediate effect of gait plate insole on the angle of gait and center of pressure displacement in children with in-toeing gait.Study design:Quasi-experimental before -after study. Methods:The angle of gait and center of pressure displacement were measured in 17 children aged 4–10 years with in-toeing gait. The RS scan pressure platform was employed to perform walking tests in three conditions including barefoot, with shoes only, and gait plate insole with shoes. Results:The gait plate insole with shoes as well as shoes alone produced a significant 11.1° and 3.85° increase in the angle of gait in in-toeing children respectively ( p < 0.05). The medial–lateral displacement of center of pressure showed a significant difference (3 mm) in shoes only condition when compared with barefoot condition. The shoes only and gait plate insole compared with barefoot condition increased the anterior–posterior displacement by 28 and 30 mm respectively. Conclusion:The gait plate insole with ordinary shoes and shoes only were able to increase angle of gait and the center of pressure displacement in the anterior–posterior direction in children with in-toeing gait due to excessive femoral anteversion.Clinical relevanceThe use of a gait plate insole inserted in ordinary shoes can improve gait appearance in children with in-toeing gait caused by Excessive femoral anteversion.

Objective To test the hypothesis that a longer duration of phase II cardiac rehabilitation is required to recover the exercise capacity of elderly patients compared to younger patients. Methods We retrospectively reviewed and analyzed the medical records of patients who were referred to our cardiac rehabilitation (CR) center and underwent percutaneous coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). A total of 70 patients were enrolled who underwent an exercise tolerance test (ETT) 3 weeks after the occurrence of an AMI (T0), 6 weeks after the first ETT (T1), and 12 weeks after the first ETT (T2). Patients older than 65 years were assigned to the elderly group (n=24) and those aged 65 years and younger to the younger group (n=46). Both groups performed center-based or home-based CR for 12 weeks (3 times per week and 1 session per day). Exercise intensity for each individual was based on the target heart rate calculated by the Karvonen formula. The change in maximal metabolic equivalents (METmax) of the two groups was measured at each assessment point (T0, T1, and T2) to investigate the recovery of exercise capacity. Results The younger group showed improvement in METmax between T0 and T1. However, METmax of the elderly group showed no significant improvement between T0 and T1. The exercise capacity, measured with METmax, of all groups showed improvement between T0 and T2.Conclusion Elderly patients with AMI need a longer duration of CR (>6 weeks) than younger patients with AMI.

Introduction Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in motor, sensory and autonomic dysfunction. The symptoms observed in patients with spinal cord injury will depend on the area affected by the injury. Nursing care is essential for better patient outcomes. Objective The aim of this study was to characterize patients with spinal cord injury treated at a state referral rehabilitation center for SCI. Methods We performed a quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study of 109 patients between the years 2000 and 2009. Results We found a predominance of spinal cord injury in men aged up to 30 years (48.5%). The main causes of spinal cord injuries were traffic accidents. The thoracic region was the most frequently affected site (39.7%), followed by the cervical region (25.6%). Most of the study subjects had been rated as ASIA A, according to the American Spinal Cord Injury Association scale. Discussion These findings corroborate previous studies observing that traffic accidents are the leading causes of spinal cord injury and that people affected by it usually do not seek proper care. Receiving early intervention services and counseling is essential for a better outcome and for achieving an improvement in the quality of life of these patients. Conclusion Despite the increasing incidence of spinal cord injuries nowadays, there is still a lack of data on the subject. The greatest limitation of this study is the incompleteness of medical records, which hindered the access to information.

Exclusive breastfeeding is breastfeeding only, without additional fluids and other foods for the first 6 months. Economic, cultural, and sociodemographic factors are thought to influence mothers to keep working even though their babies still need exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to describe cultural and sociodemographic factors related to exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Pegasing Health Center, Central Aceh. This research is an observational study. A total of 73 mothers participated in this study. The inclusion criteria are mothers who have children aged 0-5 years, domicile in the Pegasing Health Center work area, and are willing to participate in this study. Sociodemographic data and the level of knowledge of mothers regarding exclusive breastfeeding were measured using a structured interview and questionnaire. Cultural aspects related to exclusive breastfeeding were explored through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews. The majority of participants had senior high school education (57.5%), family income was below the Central Aceh regional minimum wage (95.89%), and mothers' knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding was considered good (50.7%). Meanwhile, mothers considered that family support in breastfeeding was good (50.7%). However, support from health workers was considered to be lacking regarding exclusive breastfeeding (38.4%). Based on the results of the interviews, there are habits making up and myths about dena which inhibit exclusive breastfeeding in infants in the Gayo area. In conclusion, family income and cultural factors have a role in exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Pegasing Health Center, Central Aceh.

Background. Acute cerebrovascular disorders are one of the main causes of severe disability in modern society. Russian and foreign researchers register the emerging trend towards rejuvenation of the patients with stroke, which, in turn, significantly increases the relevance of the treatment and rehabilitation of these patients at various stages. The aim. To study the social and hygienic characteristics of the stroke patients and to determine their need for medical rehabilitation in the early recovery period.Materials and methods. We studied the social and hygienic characteristics of 109 patients who had stroke in 2020 and 2021 and underwent rehabilitation in the specialized rehabilitation department of the Southern District Medical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, and determined their need for medical rehabilitation using the analytical method, the method of expert assessments and questionnaires.Results. The average portrait of a patient with a stroke in the early recovery period is as follows: this is a man aged 61 to 70 years with a higher or secondary specialized education, unemployed, living in the city. Up to 30 % of stroke survivors were recognized as disabled; among which, the persons with more severe disability (groups I and II) predominate – up to 90 %. Implementation of rehabilitation measures in the acute period in the hospital and in the early recovery period in the outpatient clinic is carried out at a fairly low level. The percentage of patients being examined by a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team ranges from 17.4 to 10.1 %.Conclusion. The availability of medical rehabilitation measures in a specialized rehabilitation center is quite limited; more than half of the surveyed contingent (52.3 %) experienced problems in obtaining a referral to treatment, about half of the respondents (46.8 %) waited up to 6 months for a referral, which indicates the need to expand the network of such institutions at the regional level.

Background: Intensive rehabilitation of adolescents occurs in general and pediatric inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs), but differences in admission and outcomes by facility type have not been thoroughly investigated, particularly among persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). Objectives: To investigate factors related to admission to pediatric or adult IRFs among adolescents and compare the rehabilitation outcomes between facility types. Methods: Using a single-center retrospective cohort study design, demographic information, medical data, and rehabilitation outcomes were obtained by chart review of patients aged 15 to 18 years who received a rehabilitation medicine consultation at an urban level 1 trauma center between 2017 and 2019 (N = 96). Analysis was performed using R statistical software. Results: SCI was the second most common diagnosis (21% of patients) and accounted for 36% of inpatient rehabilitation admissions. SCI patients were more likely to undergo rehabilitation at the level 1 trauma versus pediatric facility (relative risk [RR] = 2.43; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.08–5.44) compared to traumatic brain injury patients. Admission to trauma versus pediatric IRF was also associated with Black compared to White race (RR = 2.5; CI = 1.12–5.56), violence compared to other etiologies of injury (RR = 2.0; CI = 1.10–3.77), and Medicaid compared to private insurance (RR = 2.15; CI = 1.01–4.59). Admission to pediatric IRF was associated with longer length of stay than admission to adult IRF when adjusted for diagnosis (30.86 ± 21.82 vs. 24.33 ± 18.17 days; p = .046), but Functional Independence Measures did not differ. Conclusion: Adolescents with SCI and those experiencing systemic disadvantages, including racism and poverty, were more likely to be admitted to trauma compared to pediatric IRF.

Time spent playing video games has been linked to increases in childhood obesity and sedentary behavior. However, “new generation” video games require total body movement and greater physical exertion. The aim of this study was to describe children’s behavior and energy expenditure while visiting video game centers. Observations were undertaken on 134 children’s activity patterns while playing at a video game center. The energy cost of 10 children (5 male and 5 female) aged 12.5 ± 0.5 yr, playing 4 popular video games was then measured. Gross energy cost ranged from 7.6 to 26.5 ml · kg−1 · min−1. Based on our observations, we estimate that the gross energy expenditure during a child’s typical session in a video game center will range from 2.3–2.6 METS.

The article tells about the experience of the state budget institution of social services of the Pskov region "Rehabilitation center for children and adolescents with disabilities" from Velikiye Luki in the rehabilitation of children and adolescents aged 0 to 18 years with disabilities in mental and physical development, ensuring their fullest and timely social adaptation to life in society, family, education and work through the organization of mutual assistance groups. The effectiveness of this form of work with a family raising a child with disabilities is shown by teaching parents to understand their children, identify their abilities and needs for their further development. These theoretical positions were confirmed by experimental work that took place in three stages, including the social project "All together" with an inclusive component, which allowed to develop the huge internal potential of families raising children with disabilities for their more effective rehabilitation.

Background and Purpose Goal-oriented, task-specific training has been shown to improve function; however, it can be difficult to maintain patient interest. This report describes a rehabilitation protocol for the maintenance of balance in a short-sitting position following spinal cord and head injuries by use of a center-of-pressure–controlled video game–based tool. The scientific justification for the selected treatment is discussed. Case Descriptions Three adults were treated: 1 young adult with spina bifida (T10 and L1–L2), 1 middle-aged adult with complete paraplegia (complete lesion at T11–L1), and 1 middle-aged adult with traumatic brain injury. All patients used wheelchairs full-time. Outcomes The patients showed increased motivation to perform the game-based exercises and increased dynamic short-sitting balance. Discussion The patients exhibited increases in practice volume and attention span during training with the game-based tool. In addition, they demonstrated substantial improvements in dynamic balance control. These observations indicate that a video game–based exercise approach can have a substantial positive effect by improving dynamic short-sitting balance.

The objective of the study was to determine whether insoles with a low Shore A value (15°) as prescribed for patients with a diabetic neuropathy have a negative effect on posture stability because these insoles may reduce somatosensory input under the feet. It was conducted in the Center for Rehabilitation, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, Groningen, the Netherlands The study was observational and conducted on 30 diabetic patients (aged 37 – 82 years) with a neuropathy. Posture stability (body sway) was assessed in a shoe without insole, on a flat insole with a low Shore A value (15°) and on a flat insole with a higher Shore A value (30°). These assessments were done under four different conditions: (1) eyes open, no dual-task, (2) eyes closed, no dual-task, (3) eyes open, dual-task (mental arithmetic) and (4) eyes closed, dual-task. Additionally 10 healthy controls (aged 27 – 51 years) were assessed similarly. A significantly higher root-mean-square (rms) value of the anterior-posterior velocity, Vy, was found in patients compared with controls (3.4 cm/s vs. 1.2 cm/s, p < 0.05). Also a significant difference in rms value of the anterior-posterior velocity, Vy, was found between eyes open and eyes closed (1.9 cm/s vs. 2.7 cm/s, p < 0.05). No significant effects were found for insoles or dual tasks for the total group. In diabetic patients no significant effect was found of insoles on posture stability. The effect of closed eyes on posture stability was significantly larger for diabetic patients compared to controls. It was found that prescribing insoles with a low Shore A value (15°), compared to insoles with a higher Shore A value (30°) has no significant negative effect on posture stability in patients with a diabetic neuropathy.
