It is shown that the noncommutativity in quantum Hall system may get modified. The self-adjoint extension of the corresponding Hamiltonian leads to a family of noncommutative geometry labeled by the self-adjoint extension parameters. We explicitly perform an exact calculation using a singular interaction and show that, when projected to a certain Landau level, the emergent noncommutative geometries of the projected coordinates belong to a one-parameter family. There is a possibility of obtaining the filling fraction of fractional quantum Hall effect by suitably choosing the value of the self-adjoint extension parameter.

Among the country houses of Northumberland several have remained in the hands of the same families for many generations, including Blagdon Hall, 15 km north of Newcastle upon Tyne, the home of Viscount Ridley’s family (Fig. 1). There are good documentary records for the estate, some dating from the thirteenth century, and detailed accounts from the mid-eighteenth century onwards, reflecting the continuity of ownership since that time. Examination of these documents and of eighteenth-century illustrations suggested that previously accepted dating of the house needed to be reassessed, and raised questions about sources of designs and the involvement of prominent architects and craftsmen in the evolution of the house. Further investigation revealed that the family and commercial networks of Blagdon’s eighteenth-century owners and their builders led to the adoption of the Blagdon design elsewhere in northeast England. This article will examine the remodelling of Blagdon Hall as an example of the history of English élite architecture in the provinces.

Sŏnwŏnjŏn (璿源殿, Hall of Jade Source) stands out from other royal portrait halls within the late Chosŏn period on account of its unofficiality. This comes through in its rites, ritual foods and vessels, interior setting, and the enshrined portraits. Sŏnwŏnjŏn was an informal sacred hall where royal family members could personally present offerings and worship before portraits of late Chosŏn kings in the inner court. Birthday tea rituals (誕辰茶禮), which drew on non-Confucian traditions, were established as the representative rite of this hall. Unlike many other ritual halls at the time, these tea rituals often featured the active participation of royal women including queen dowagers and royal consorts. From the preparation of rituals to acts of veneration, they played an active role. This stands in stark contrast to the rites of Yŏnghŭijŏn (永禧殿, Hall of Eternal Happiness), the representative official portrait hall of late Chosŏn, which were always performed by male officials. Yŏnghŭijŏn primarily used oil-and-honey pastries (油蜜菓) and brass vessels for the offering tables. Conversely, Sŏnwŏnjŏn presented vessels made from the most luxurious materials of the time, such as silver, gold, and even jade. The vessels included delicacies comprised of various kinds of meat and fish dishes for the tea rituals. Objects originally produced for the king’s use in life were also incorporated into Sŏnwŏnjŏn rites. In sum, the ritual foods and vessels for tea rituals echoed the table setting for a king in the inner banquet (內進饌) to commemorate his birthday. The rites as well as the ritual foods and vessels of Sŏnwŏnjŏn seem to have followed the tea rituals of a spirit hall, in which a deceased king’s spirit tablet was enshrined for about two years and royal family members could serve as if the late king was alive. The physical environment of a chamber at Sŏnwŏnjŏn mimicked the interior setting of a spirit hall, and consisted of a baldachin, a three-sided Five Peak screen, a royal bed, and a set of four-panel peony paintings. This interior differs from one of official portrait halls, wherein there was a one-sided Five Peak screen and a royal bed without the use of Peony screens. Indeed, Sŏnwŏnjŏn functioned as a substitute for a spirit hall. In the 19th century, the hall was distinguished from a sprit hall by the more lavish decoration of its inner space with paintings rich in symbolism, additionally including Plum screens and Sea-and-Peaches of Immortality screens. The subject matter of the paintings expressed the royal family’s hope for the eternal life of their ancestors. Portraits selected for worship in Sŏnwŏnjŏn matched the intimate and informal character of this late Chosŏn portrait hall. Unlike Yŏnghŭijŏn in which full-length portraits of late Chosŏn kings in official attire were displayed, a majority of the displayed or enshrined portraits at Sŏnwŏnjŏn presented kings in ordinary attire. Moreover, half-length portraits were enshrined therein. Kings and also the queen dowagers were primarily responsible for deciding what went into it. While ritual requirements were important to these decisions, human feelings for the portrait subjects also influenced the selection.

Significant misinformation about COVID-19 has been spread on the internet. Parents of children with complex aerodigestive problems have a hard time understanding the information they encounter on the internet and the news media and interpreting how it relates to their child’s complex needs. Our multidisciplinary team, at the suggestion of a parent, hosted 3 virtual “town halls” in which families could ask questions directly of pediatric otolaryngology, pediatric pulmonology and case management in order to efficiently obtain factual evidence-based up-to-date advice. The information discussed at the town halls was then annotated and disseminated via active, parent-run aerodigestive social media forums. The information disseminated via the town halls reached 4787 Facebook participants.

This is a review of two books, one Stuart Hall’s memoir, the other an edited volume of some of his most significant political writings. The former offers a psychosocial portrait of Hall, from Jamaica’s brown middle class, feeling alienated from the cultural norms and beliefs of his thoroughly colonized family of origin and coming to identify with Jamaica’s black masses and the post-colonial. Crucial to the transition was re-locating to England via a scholarship to Oxford. Despite ongoing disenchantment, this move enabled a new, liberating vantage point for understanding himself, namely, that of the diasporic intellectual. The memoir ends with Hall frenetically engaged politically with the new left and CND, which is where Selected Political Writings begins. Covering key moments and events in a changing political scene over more than 50 years, the essays, conjunctural analyses written contemporaneously, show remarkable consistency in political outlook and analytical approach.

A new addition to the family of Hall effects is the nonlinear Hall effect. We investigate the role of hexagonal warping of the band structure of surface Dirac fermions in the nonlinear Hall effect in 3D topological insulators. Most relevant to our study is [Formula: see text], where we show that its surface states exhibit pronounced nonlinear Hall effect in the presence of warping. We investigate this nonlinear Hall effect as a function of Fermi energy, bandgap, warping strength, and temperature.

Contemporarily, various novel phenomena related to quantum Hall effect and many extended versions of Hall effects were discovered. This big family of Hall effect has given rise to the development in many fields including condensed matter physics, and relevant research (e.g., topological insulators, topological superconductors), remains a hot topic nowadays. This paper will focus on the application of quantum Hall effect in state-of-art researches, especially in superconductor-related field. Information retrieve and literature analysis are the main methods used in this review. First, a brief introduction of the definition for different kinds of Hall effects will be given. Afterwards, applications of quantum Hall effect will be discussed, including an unconventional CDW discovered in a kamoge superconductor, Josephson Junction presenting a quantum Hall effect and the quantum anomalous Hall effect-based Josephson Junction. Subsequently, the limitations in these researches and problems remaining to be solved by further research will be shown. These researches have great significance in achieving quantum computation. Overall, these results shed light on guiding further studies for Hall effect.

Abstract Berry phase and Berry curvature play a key role in the development of topology in physics and do contribute to the transport properties in solid state systems. In this paper, we report the finding of novel nonzero Hall effect in topological material ZrTe5 flakes when the in-plane magnetic field is parallel and perpendicular to the current. Surprisingly, both symmetric and antisymmetric components with respect to magnetic field are detected in the in-plane Hall resistivity. Further theoretical analysis suggests that the magnetotransport properties originate from the anomalous velocity induced by Berry curvature in a tilted Weyl semimetal. Our work not only enriches the Hall family but also provides new insights into the Berry phase effect in topological materials.

AbstractWe study the cohomological Hall algebra {\operatorname{Y}\nolimits^{\flat}} of a Lagrangian substack {\Lambda^{\flat}} of the moduli stack of representations of the preprojective algebra of an arbitrary quiver Q, and their actions on the cohomology of Nakajima quiver varieties. We prove that {\operatorname{Y}\nolimits^{\flat}} is pure and we compute its Poincaré polynomials in terms of (nilpotent) Kac polynomials. We also provide a family of algebra generators. We conjecture that {\operatorname{Y}\nolimits^{\flat}} is equal, after a suitable extension of scalars, to the Yangian {\mathbb{Y}} introduced by Maulik and Okounkov. As a corollary, we prove a variant of Okounkov’s conjecture, which is a generalization of the Kac conjecture relating the constant term of Kac polynomials to root multiplicities of Kac–Moody algebras.

While families have historically provided the basis of business organization in the United States, in the late nineteenth century the development of corporations and managerial capitalism weakened their role in business, especially in management (Bell 1962; Chandler 1977; Farber 1972; Hall 1977,1988; Kanter 1978; Mills 1956; Shammas et al. 1987). Chandler (1977) has postulated a historical decline in family management, control, and decision making in firms with the growth of industrial capitalism; others have asserted a continued presence of the family in business ownership (Davis and Stern 1980; Lansberg et al. 1988).

In the past, people with the same family name gathered in a region were made into a family, and each family had its family temple for worshipping ancestors and remembering their forefathers, and such family temples with special significance were called ancestral halls. The southern Min region has experienced more hardships compared to the northern region, so it pays more attention to the family and places an important place on the transmission of blood ties. The values of people are subtly changed in this environment, and through the inculcation of generations, the people of southern Fujian internalized the values inherited from this architecture of ancestral halls into their aesthetic consciousness. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of technological development on the evolution of regional aesthetic characteristics in the context of Big data and Artificial intelligence, starting from the folk aesthetic culture of Minnan ancestral halls. The architecture of Minnan ancestral halls is characterized by the adaptation of ancestral hall architecture to the climate of Southern Fujian, the unique architectural framework of ancestral halls, the use of vibrant colors in Minnan ancestral halls, and the Minnan ancestral halls. The art of stone carving and aesthetic literacy are two major aesthetic features of Minnan's ancestral halls. The number of Minnan ancestral halls is huge, and to analyze their aesthetic characteristics it is necessary to use the ability of Big data storage to analyze massive data and to extract some representative ancestral hall buildings from the database of Minnan ancestral halls for analysis. The various aesthetic features of the database are clustered and analyzed through Big data analysis technology to summarize the representative aesthetic features of Minnan ancestral halls. At the same time, some people in the Minnan area were selected as the research subjects, and the data related to the folk aesthetic consciousness of the people were obtained using a questionnaire survey, and then the "aesthetic elements" and "aesthetic consciousness" were input into the artificial intelligence training model by combining Big data and Artificial intelligence technology. The relationship between elements is explored through artificial intelligence decision-making. Finally, this conclusion is illustrated in four dimensions. From the dimension of color, the residents of Minnan mostly use relatively bright colors to decorate their houses, which is consistent with the use of red and black colors in Minnan's ancestral halls. In terms of shape, the architectural style of Minnan ancestral halls also influenced the development of later buildings, some of which evolved from Minnan ancestral halls as prototypes. In terms of materials, the Minnan ancestral halls were built with a combination of wood and stone, while later generations only increased the proportion of stone. In terms of culture, the development of folk aesthetic consciousness is echoed by the core values of blood and clan ties transmitted by the Minnan ancestral halls left.

Apart from providing a haven, a home serves also as a place where people can develop their personalities and temperaments. Traditions within families are an often-unseen force that has a profound effect on people. In this article, the authors explore the meaning and value of family traditional inheritance in the current context and what manifestations may occur. After reviewing the history and characteristics of ancestral shrines, this study further examined the forms of expression used to express “home” and “family traditions” from the creator’s perspective. A conceptual framework is provided for subsequent case studies. Considering the role and importance of different creations in the transmitting of family traditions, a family memorial hall named “Qiyun Residence” and a series of paintings called “Home: Sweet Home” were created by members of this family to analyze and interpret family traditions. The importance of family traditions cannot be overstated, but they must be appropriately expressed. It is our aim that the examples presented in this article show how “Traditional” can be transferred to “Modernity” for the sustainability of culture.

TWENTY YEARS AGO an article entitled ‘The Eyres of Hassop and some of their connections from the Test Act to Emancipation’ was published in two parts in Recusant History. A section was devoted to the Eyres of Norfolk. Their house in that county—Bury's or Bures or Berries Hall near Swaffham—was acquired by Thomas Eyre at some date shortly before 1688 and passed to three of his six sons, Henry, John and James, in succession, being sold after the death of the last in 1749. In recent years it has ceased to be a private house and is now a country hotel. There remain in the neighbourhood to remind the visitor of the family the monumental inscriptions in the nearby Holme Hale church to Mary, the wife of Thomas Eyre—‘She was very exemplary and eminent for her piety, charity and other virtues, and exchanged this life for a better the 28th of September 1710, Aet. 67’—and to two of her sons.

Through the abundant use of the bawdy, humorous songs of British music hall, The Muppet Show delivered a potent critique of constructed notions of a protectionist childhood. Paradoxically perhaps, the music hall songs, carnivalesque comedy, and frequent depictions of sex, sexuality, and violence also did much to construct The Muppet Show’s intended “family” audience while simultaneously providing a direct challenge to its normative sanguinuptial (blood and marriage) construction. This intergenerational family audience is crucial to the child’s interpretation of The Muppet Show’s complex and contentious content, subject matter that is rarely included in media made for a solely child audience. While the musical sketches open up an interpretive space for the child to encounter, resist, and subvert the range of fluid identities hinted at onscreen, the process is simultaneously constricted by the musical-visual texts themselves and by The Muppet Show’s family-reception context. As such, this case study reveals the inherent tensions of targeting a family audience through music and television.

In late October 1999 I visited the third annual Syrian National Documentation Festival in the Damascus fairgrounds. Syrian ministry employees and Ba'th Party officials have organized the ten-day long annual Documentation Festival since the mid-1990s. Its stated purpose is to preserve and celebrate the heritage of the nation. In 1999 the exhibition was separated into four large halls devoted to different documents and art. The most prominent hall was devoted to heroic paintings, photos, and videotaped speeches of then Syrian President Hafiz al-Asad. Other halls were devoted to popular art, family, local, and municipal histories and documents, and selections from the archives of various departments and ministries. The final hall contained the ministry of education, ministry of antiquities, including the national archives, the ministry of the interior including the departments of awqâf (sing, waqf), Damascus municipal police, and the ministry of agriculture.

Family problems are a problem that occurs quite often in everyday life, where these problems include several forms of life dynamics, behavior and life patterns/attitudes that can disrupt the household and family. Therefore, efforts are needed to unite the responsibilities of parents and the obligations of the state and local governments to help overcome family problems, one way is by establishing a Family Learning Center (PUSPAGA) which aims to be a service to improve family life and resilience. In achieving the research objectives, the research used descriptive qualitative methods with analytical methods. Data collection techniques are carried out by conducting interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this research show that the PUSPAGA program in improving the lives and resilience of families at the RW hall level, especially RW Hall 02 Kel. Kali Kedinding Land, District. Many materials crystallize in structure types that feature a square net of atoms. While these compounds can exhibit many different properties, some members of this family are topological materials. Within the square-net-based topological materials, the observed properties are rich, ranging, for example, from nodal-line semimetals to a bulk half-integer quantum Hall effect. Hence, the potential for guided design of topological properties is enormous. Here we provide an overview of the crystallographic and electronic properties of these phases and show how they are linked, with the goal of understanding which square-net materials can be topological, and predict additional examples. We close the review by discussing the experimentally observed electronic properties in this family.

That architecture makes social statements is obvious in grand buildings from Norman castles to country houses. In smaller houses, such statements are often muted by our ignorance of their historical context and their date. This paper examines a small but sophisticated medieval house in which the combination of precise dating and informative documentation surmounts simple architectural analysis, to reveal something of its social importance to the family who built it. In the early nineteenth century, the status of Hall House, Sawbridge, was the lowest possible. It belonged to the Sawbridge Overseers of the Poor and was rented to families receiving parish support; later it became farm labourers' cottages. Most of the stages in the decline of the elegant medieval house to this lowly state can be documented, and links established to the only family in fifteenth-century Sawbridge with pretensions to sophistication. These clues lead to the identification of John Andrewe as the builder of Hall House in 1449, and to the recognition of it as a concrete expression of a family pride that was also being fostered by the invention of a distinguished ancestry.

This article analyses Nathaniel Hone's portrait of Lord and Lady Scarsdale (1761) and the significance that such images have for our understanding of the eighteenth-century family. It first discusses the imagery of the painting and places it in the context of the shift that occurred in family portraiture between 1740 and 1760. Whilst earlier images presented stiffly posed figures, later portraits such as that by Hone came to focus on the sitters' affective relationships. The article argues that, whilst aesthetic influences played a part in this transition, it was chiefly prompted by the sentimentalization of familial ideals. Such ‘promenade portraits’ encapsulated the companionate marriage, hailed as a blend of masculine rationality and feminine tenderness. However, once contextualized within the state rooms for which it was conceived, the Hone portrait also reveals more ‘traditional’ concerns. It makes formal references to accompanying portraits of Stuart monarchs and dignitaries, emphasizing the tory affiliations of the Scarsdales and their loyalty to the Stuart dynasty. The state rooms also contain a portrait of Lord Scarsdale as a baby with his parents and his deceased elder brother. This image affirms the continuation of the male line in the face of high infant mortality rates, a statement that is confirmed in the Hone painting.

This study explores which fields might potentially collaborate in family business research. It compares 14 research fields for their structure of topical attention. The most convenient collaborations, such as those between entrepreneurship, family business, and strategy researchers, prove to be the most appropriate for some research purposes. However, less common collaborations, particularly with scholars from law, history, and anthropology, appear to be the most appropriate for other projects. Family and marital therapy prove to be a less promising collaborator than one might expect because of their strong skewing to familial rather than commercial topics. Correspondingly, entrepreneurship also proves to be an outlier field, skewed to the commercial rather than the familial, with surprisingly little in common with the topical interests of family business researchers.

We evaluate the ground state degeneracy of noncommutative Chern–Simons models on the two-torus, a quantity that is interpreted as the "topological order" of associated phases of Hall fluids. We define the noncommutative theory via T-duality from an ordinary Chern–Simons model with non-Abelian 't Hooft magnetic fluxes. Motivated by this T-duality, we propose a discrete family of noncommutative, non-Abelian fluid models, arising as a natural generalization of the standard noncommutative Chern–Simons effective models. We compute the topological order for these universality classes, and comment on their possible microscopic interpretation.

Abstract Nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE), a new member of the family of Hall effects, in monolayer phosphorene is investigated. We find that phosphorene exhibits pronounced NLHE, arising from the dipole moment of the Berry curvature induced by the proximity effect that breaks the inversion symmetry of the system. Remarkably, the nonlinear Hall response exhibits central minimum with a width on the order of the band gap, followed by two resonance-like peaks. Interestingly, each resonance peak of the Hall response shifts in the negative region of the chemical potential which is consistent with the shift of valence and conduction bands in the energy spectrum of monolayer phosphorene. It is observed that the two peaks are asymmetric, originated from anisotropy in the band structure of phosphorene. It is shown that the NLHE is very sensitive to the band gap and temperature of the system. Moreover, we find that a phase transition occurs in the nonlinear Hall response and nonlinear spin Hall conductivity of the system under the influence of spin–orbit interaction, tuned by the strength of interaction and band gap induced in the energy spectrum of monolayer phosphorene with broken inversion symmetry.
