This study aimed at evaluating the efficacy of different concentrations of C. craniiformis mushroom suspension in pigeon flock infected by Hadjelia truncata worms in Diyala province in comparison with 0.1% ivermectin. Thirty pairs of pigeons were brought to the veterinary clinic with case history of progressive weight loss, weakness, and some birds have died suddenly. In the necropsy of 3 cases the gizzards contained some nematodes, located under the koilin layer of the gizzard, which was identified microscopically as Hadjelia truncata which was one of the important parasites of the digestive system of poultry. Three different concentrations of suspension were prepared from Calvatia craniiformis mushroom powder (0.25, 0.5 and 1mg\ml) and that tested for antiparasitic effect in comparison with ivermectin as common broad spectrum anthelimntics drug. All the concentrations of the suspension showed active effect against the parasites but, ivermectin showed a better effect.

The study examined the obstacles to agricultural development in the Hadjer Lamis region of Chad, over the period from 2005 to 2015. Agriculture is one of the professions that founded civilization, and the first revolution of humanity in the history of mankind. It is a human activity that has been widely adopted by most peoples, because about half to two thirds of the world's population depends on it, including Chad, like other developing countries that largely depend on agriculture, where more than 60% of the population works there. It also contributes significantly to economic and social development, and the prolific lands for agricultural production are concentrated on vast expanses where natural and human conditions are favorable for agricultural production. Chad benefits from vast expanses of agricultural land where agriculture has been practiced for a long time, but despite the availability of all these lands, which represent about a third of the area of Chad, they are hindered by certain obstacles that limit their agricultural development, and for sustainable agricultural development to reach its objectives, it is necessary to find appropriate solutions to overcome these obstacles. in this study, we examine the problems facing agricultural production. The problem of the study: the study area suffers from several natural and human obstacles and that this region practices rudimentary agricultural methods. Its hypotheses are as follows: (1) the study area can produce agricultural crops that promote sustainable development. (2) The study area suffers from natural and human constraints that have led to a decrease in production and its decline. (3) The fluctuation of rainfall and the creep of the desert which limit it on the north side could compromise the agricultural development of the region. The study aimed to: (1) highlight the natural and human geographical characteristics of the study area (2) know the dominant cultivation models of the Hadjer Lamis area (3) Identify the main problems and obstacles to agricultural development in the Hadjer Lamis region (4). The main crops and agricultural tools used, it turned out that the importance is: (1) the identification of the natural and human constraints suffered by the region of Hadjer Lamis. (2) To urge stakeholders on the sufferings of the agricultural sector in this region and (3) to provide information on agricultural development that students and researchers can benefit from. The researcher followed a research methodology in the study of this topic, which included theregional program: According to this regional program, the natural and human characteristics and the geographical location of the study area were studied. The historical program that gathers information related to agriculture in the Hadjer Lamis region in a specific period and then analyzes and presents its results. Analytical descriptive approach: by which the nature of the dominant agricultural activity in the study area has been described and the data and results have been interpreted. The statistical approach: gathered statistical information on agricultural production and benefit from their analysis and interpretation in the agricultural field. She highlighted many natural constraints that contribute to the slow pace of agricultural development in the study area: fluctuations in rainfall and rising temperatures, as well as agricultural pests such as locusts, other insects, migratory birds and those fixed. The Government and the Ministry in charge of the Agricultural Sector should raise awareness and guide farmers, provide them with the necessary agricultural equipment that will increase production, look for improved and frugal seeds and reduce the cultivation of crops that require a large amount of water and a long period of time, due to the rainfall observed in the territory in addition to the desert sprawl

The aim of this study is to carry out a physico-chemical characterization of three arid soils. Soil samples were taken from a horizon of 0-20 cm and analyzed as follows: texture, electrical conductivity, maximum water retention capacity and natural moisture content were determined at the Laboratory of Soils-Water-Plants (LASEP) in Chad. On the other hand, the organic matter rate, soil reaction, total and assimilable phosphorus, total nitrogen, total potassium, CEC, exchangeable bases, and C/N ratio were determined at the National Soil Office (BUNASOL) in Burkina Faso. XLSTAT software version 7.5.2 was used for this work, and tests for comparison of means were carried out using the Fischer method with a threshold of 5%. The results of these analyses give for each soil in this order (% clay, % silt, % sand), Dandi (19.5%, 17.5%, 63%), Karal (17%, 7.5%, 75.5%) and Mani (14%, 7%, 79%), all these three soils have a sandy-silty texture. The organic matter levels obtained overall are low: Dandi (0.68 mg/100 g dry matter), Karal (0.61 mg/100 g dry matter), Mani (0.61 mg/100 g dry matter), these results confirm the aridity of these soils. Total phosphorus levels in Dandi, Karal and Mani are 182.50 mg/100 g, 265.50 mg/100 g and 388 mg/100 g dry matter respectively, while assimilable phosphorus levels are 13.08 mg/100 g, 42.33 mg/100 g and 18.10mg/100g dry matter respectively. The three soils have a slightly basic pH-water: Dandi (8.07), Karal (7.29), Mani (7.03) as for the pH-KCl, they are as follows: Dandi (6.28), Karal (6.33) and Mani (6.03). Soil C/N ratios vary from 7.83 to 17.05, CEC from 12.82 to 23 meq/100 g, electrical conductivity from 160.50 to 666.50 µS/cm and maximum water retention capacity from 34.66 to 45.22%. Moisture levels ranged from 2.77 to 4.40% and saturation levels were Mani (19.50%), Dandi (41.09%) and Karal (53.43%). The sum of the bases, meanwhile, varies as follows Dandi (1205.55 mg/100 g dry matter), Mani (2094.68 dry matter) and Karal (2162 mg/100 g dry matter). The total potassium obtained in each of the soil samples is as follows: Dandi (480.50 mg/100 g of dry matter), Karal (483 mg/100 g of dry matter) and Mani (325 mg/100 g of dry matter) and finally, the total nitrogen content varied from 0.02 to 0.04 mg/100 g of dry matter.

A hydrogeological study was carried out in and around Guitté. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of the hydrochemical parameters of the waters of the Guitté aquifer. with a view to the sound and sustainable management of available water resources. A field mission to measure and sample borehole water was carried out from March 26 to 28. 2023 in and around Guitté. Physicochemical analyses were carried out on 28 water samples from human-driven pumps). The study showed that the groundwater exploited in this area has an average temperature of 29°C. Overall. the pH values measured in the sampled waters are not very heterogeneous and are around neutral. Electrical conductivity values are highly heterogeneous. Two types of chemical facies have been identified in Guitté groundwater: sodium or potassium bicarbonate facies. and calcium and magnesium bicarbonate facies. The overall quality of the groundwater obtained for consumption is 60.71% rated as good. 39.28% as poor. The origin of the mineralization could be linked. on the one hand. to water/rock contact. due to the dissolution of natron. limestone. gypsum and thenardite and on the other hand. to the phenomenon of intense evaporation.

Abstract The Algerian iron and steel complex of El Hadjar, near the city of Annaba, produces a granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) mainly used by the local cement factories as an addition to clinker of up to 30 % as maximum content, for manufacturing a compound CEM II type cement (Algerian Standard). With the aim, on the one hand, of limiting the use of high clinker content in Algerian cement plants and replacing it with other constituents such as granulated blast furnace slag and, on the other hand, to use this slag as an addition to local concrete, we have attempted to characterize it according to its degree of reactivity. The use of chemical activity indexes and caustic soda tests lead to disappointing results that are contradicted by the results obtained on mortar within the scope of the standard determination of a hydraulic efficient index. The results obtained indicated that the classification of El Hadjer slag strongly depends on its degree of fineness; it also has weak short-term activity, denoting a slower kinetics of reaction compared to classical slag. These results permit us to recommend a minimal Blaine of 3500 cm2/g for this slag. A more intensive use of this slag in cement and concrete is undoubtedly possible, but this must be demonstrated by conducting tests on mortar and validating by a study on concrete.

A novel Gram staining positive, aerobic bacterium NEAU-HV1T that exhibits antifungal activity against Exserohilum turcicum was isolated from a soil collected from Gama, Hadjer lamis, Chad. It was grown at 10–45 °C (optimum 30 °C), pH 5–10 (optimum pH 8), and 0–4% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 1%). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain NEAU-HV1T was closely related to Sinomonas susongensis A31T (99.24% sequence similarity), Sinomonas humi MUSC 117T (98.76%), and Sinomonas albida LC13T (98.68%). The average nucleotide identity values between NEAU-HV1T and its most closely related species were 79.34−85.49%. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization values between NEAU-HV1T and S. susongensis A31T, S. albida LC13T, and S. humi MUSC 117T were 23.20, 23.50, and 22.80%, respectively, again indicating that they belonged to different taxa. The genomic DNA G+C content was 67.64 mol%. The whole cell sugars contained galactose, mannose, and rhamnose. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, and four glycolipids. The respiratory quinone system comprised MK-9(H2), MK-10(H2), and MK-8(H2). The major cellular fatty acids (>5%) were anteiso-C15:0, anteiso-C17:0, C16:0, and iso-C15:0. Based on the polyphasic analysis, it is suggested that the strain NEAU-HV1T represents a novel species of the genus Sinomonas, for which the name Sinomonas gamaensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is NEAU-HV1T (= DSM 104514T = CCTCC M 2017246T).

Abstract Background: Breast cancer is currently the leading cause of cancer morbidity and mortality among Algerian women. To date, triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) shows substantial overlap with basal type cancer and it is associated with aggressive tumor behavior, poor prognosis and BRCA1 mutations. In the present study, we screened for the prevalence of BRCA1 and BRCA2 germline mutations in a cohort of 169 TNBC patients using PCR-Sanger sequencing and NGS with a cancer panel of 30 hereditary cancer genes or BRCA1/BRCA2 genetic test. Materials and Methods: 169 TNBC patients and their relatives were referred trough several public hospitals from six years (2013-2019). BRCA1 germline mutation was screened using PCR-Sanger sequencing in 66 TNBC patients with strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer and 103 sporadic TNBC patients including all exons where a mutation was previously found in Algerian population (exons 2, 3, 4, 10, 17 and 19). BRCA2 germline mutation was screened using PCR-Sanger sequencing in 24 TNBC patients with strong family history of breast cancer including all exons where a mutation was previously found in Algerian patients (exons 10 and 22). In addition, nine (9) TNBC patients with strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer were analyzed by NGS using BRCA1 and BRCA2 test or a cancer panel of 30 hereditary genes (Colors genomics). Results: The analysis of the genomic DNA samples of 169 TNBC patients revealed that 15 patients carried pathogenic germline variants in BRCA1 gene and three patients carried pathogenic variants in BRCA2 gene (10.65%). Eight distinct germline mutations in BRCA1 have been detected in this study: c.83_84delTG, c.181T>G, c.798_799delTT, c.505C>T, c.923_924delGC, c.2125_2126insA, c.5257A>G and deletion of exon 15. Interestingly, the recurrent and specific mutation c.83_84delTG has been detected in 4 unrelated TNBC patients. The pathogenic variant c.2125_2126insA has been detected in three unrelated families and also in the first relatives of 2 patients. The rare likely pathogenic variant BRCA1 c.5257A>G/p.Arg1753Gly has been detected in young female TNBC patient. The Del exon 15 in BRCA1 has been detected in two unrelated patients. Three distinct germline mutations in BRCA2 have been detected in three TNBC patients: c.1813dupA, c.7654dupA and c.8485C>T. Interestingly, these three mutations are reported for the first time in Algerian population. The c.1813dupA and c.8485C>T pathogenic variants have been detected in two young female TNBC patients with a family history of male breast cancer. Conclusions: In the current study, we detected recurrent germline mutations in BRCA1 gene in early onset TNBC patients. BRCA2 pathogenic variants have also been detected in young female TNBC patients. TNBC immunophenotype should be considered as an additional criterion for genetic counselling and testing of BRCA genes in Algerian women with early onset breast cancer. Abstract Introduction Morphea or localized scleroderma is a rare paediatric inflammatory disease. It causes sclerosis of the skin and subcutaneous tissues. The condition does not have serious systemic implications, except in rare cases. However, it can cause functional and aesthetic sequelae. There is no truly effective consensus treatment, hence the importance of correctly assessing the extent and severity of the disease before any therapeutic approach. Objective Through the case of a girl presenting with linear scleroderma, revealed at the exploration of a superficial venous thrombosis; we report the diagnostic and therapeutic difficulty. Results Hadjer, a 14 years old girl, with no particular personal or family history, presented with thrombosis of the great saphenous vein. Thrombophilia work-up and anti-phospholipid antibodies were normal. She was treated by stripping; then she was lost to follow-up. One year later, hadjer’s clinical examination revealed thickened, inflamed skin on the left lower limb, extending from the dorsal surface of the ankle to the upper third of the thigh along its inner surface, suggesting linear scleroderma in the inflammatory phase. There was also a varicose vein sequelae of the thrombosis. The patient had no Raynaud's phenomenon or systemic damage. The skin biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. The search for multi-visceral involvement was non-contributory: capillaroscopy, chest X-ray, cardiac ultrasound, ophthalmological examination, liver, kidney and haematological tests. Muscle enzymes and magnetic resonance imaging for deep involvement were also normal. The autoimmune assessment revealed the positivity of Antinuclear Antibodies. The patient benefited from oral corticosteroid therapy and physiotherapy. After three months of partial remission, methotrexate was started. Discussion and conclusion Morphea is a rare autoimmune condition in paediatrics. A correlation between antinuclear antibody positivity and the severity of Morphea has been suggested. Certain risk factors have been incriminated. The linear form is by far the most frequent. The presence of venous thrombosis suggests the probable association of other autoimmune diseases, hence the interest of a rigorous follow-up, to watch for other clinical signs. The treatment and prognosis of morphea depend on the clinical form and the time to diagnosis; functional and aesthetic sequelae can be observed in the deep forms which require treatment with corticoids and immune modulators. The helminths of 15 Helmeted Guineafowls were collected in the north of Limpopo Province, South Africa. A total of 11 cestode, ten nematode and a single acanthocephalan species were present. Species richness ranged from 8 to 16 species per host, and nine core and nine secondary species accounted for 40.9% of the component parasite community. The remaining 18.2% comprised satellite species. Core species represented 91% of all the worms present. Individual intensities ranged from 66 to 2 724 per host and overdispersion was pronounced. There were no significant differences regarding the abundance and species richness between male and female hosts. The number of component species and overall abundance did not differ significantly between juvenile and adult hosts, but Cyrnea parroti was significantly more abundant, and the prevalence of Hadjelia truncata was higher in young birds than in adults. In contrast, Gongylonema congolense and Porogynia paronai were absent in juveniles, but had a prevalence of 60% and 70%, respectively, in adults. Pairwise Spearman's rank correlation yielded one positive and 10 negative significant species correlations. A single trematode, Dicrocoelium macrostomum, was collected from five of nine guineafowls, but was not included in the helminth community study.

Abstract Pigeons are a cosmopolitan group of birds with abundant and large populations associated with human activities. This study focused on determining parasitic infections within domestic pigeons (Columba livia domestica). Forty-eight pigeons were examined for infections, of which 29.16% were infected with a nematode parasite, identified as Hadjelia truncata (Habronematidae), under the koilin layer of their gizzards. The population of nematodes in infected gizzards did not exceed 20 adult worms. DNA from the gizzard worms was extracted and subjected to PCR using primers that amplify the partial 18S rDNA and cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COX I) regions. Identification of this parasite based on microscopic study revealed the presence of trilobed lips with cephalic papillae and amphidial pores, as well as other characteristic features. In males, spicules were unequal with the presence of six pedunculated pairs of caudal papillae (4 pre- and 2 post-anal) and a tail surrounded with caudal ala. In females, the vulva was a rounded aperture located in front of the posterior end of the esophagus and uteri, which was filled with numerous embryonated eggs. DNA Sequences from partial 18S rDNA were homologous to sequences obtained from H. truncata in GenBank with a high percentage of identity. DNA sequences from mitochondrial gene COX I, however, were unique, and they were the first sequenced for H. truncata, since no sequences for this taxon were previously available in GenBank. Histopathological examination revealed enlargement of infected gizzards in comparison to non-infected ones, with the presence of necrosis and interstitial infiltration in the koilin layer. Concentrations of heavy metals (Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr, and Co) were measured using inductivity-coupled plasma in tissues (liver, muscles, and gizzards) from infected and non-infected pigeons as well as their parasites. Results showed different affinities of metals to tissues. Recovered parasites can minimize element concentration from their pigeon tissues. In Saudi Arabia, this study was considered the first report identifying pigeon nematodes and evaluating of the effects of their pathogenicity on the animals’ welfare, as well as their application as a useful tool for monitoring environmental pollution.

This study aims to identify factors on the community, the human health and the animal health provider level that determine access to Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and animal rabies diagnosis in the light of a future integrated bite case management (IBCM) approach for rabies control in Chad. The study was embedded in an overall project conducted from 2016 to 2018, to determine rabies burden and vaccine demand in West and Central Africa. Data collection took place during the projects closing workshops with stakeholders organized between August and September 2018 in the three study zones in Chad covering Logone Occidental and Ouaddaï province and parts of Hadjer Lamis and Chari Baguirmi province. A qualitative approach based on focus group discussion and in-depth interviews was used to get insights on access to care and animal investigation after suspected rabies exposure. A total of 96 participants, including 39 from the community (bite victims, dog owners) and 57 human and animal health providers (health center managers, chief veterinary officers, chief district medical officers, chiefs of livestock sectors) contributed to the study. Based on an existing conceptual framework of access to health care, several points of dissatisfaction were identified, in particular the unaffordability of human rabies vaccine for PEP (affordability) and the distance to travel to a health facility in case of a bite (accessibility). In addition, there are unfavorable attitudes observed highlighted by the importance given to traditional or local rabies care practices to the detriment of PEP (acceptability) and a low level of knowledge among Chadian communities regarding bite prevention, coupled with a very inadequate information and awareness system regarding the disease (adequacy). As for human and veterinary health services, both sectors suffer from insufficient resources for PEP on the human health and rabies diagnosis on the veterinary side impacting negatively on availability and accessibility of both these services. Action to improving provision of rabies health services and increasing knowledge about risk and prevention of the disease among the population need to be undertaken to implement IBCM, improve access to PEP and achieve the goal of eliminating dog mediated human rabies by 2030 in Chad.

Domestic dogs are responsible for 95% of all human rabies cases worldwide and continue to be the main reservoir for this fatal virus in African and Asian countries. Interrupting the spread of the disease in the domestic dog population is therefore necessary for long-term, sustainable rabies control. Chad has been recognized as a rabies-endemic country since 1961, but no national control strategy is in place to date and dog vaccination coverage is very low. This qualitative, descriptive study aims to describe the main barriers to dog vaccination on both the community and the institutional level from a socio-anthropological point of view in Chad. The study was embedded in an overall project conducted from 2016 to 2018, to determine rabies burden and vaccine demand in West and Central Africa, funded by GAVI, the vaccine alliance. Data collection was conducted on the occasion of the project's closing workshops with stakeholders organized between August to September 2018 in the four (4) project areas: Logone Occidental, Ouaddaï, Hadjer Lamis and Chari Baguirmi. We conducted interviews and focus group discussions (FGD) among veterinary officers and dog owners. Participants were selected purposively based on their place of residence (dog owners) or work place (veterinary officers) and their previous contact with the project through reporting (dog owner) or management (veterinary officers) of a suspect dog rabies case. In each region, one FGD was organized with dog owners, and one FGD with heads of veterinary posts. At the end of the FGDs, a few participants were randomly selected for interviews. In addition, in each region an interview was conducted with the head of the livestock sector, the chief district medical officers and the head of a civil society association. The identified barriers to dog vaccination access are grouped into three main aspects: the economic, the socio-cultural and the institutional level. Economic constraints encountered relate to the cost of the vaccine itself and the expenses for transporting the dogs to the vaccination site. The cultural belief that the vaccine will have an impact on the therapeutic properties of dog meat for consumers (observed in Southern Chad), and the fact that dogs are considered impure animals in Muslim faith, which prohibits handling of dogs, are obstacles identified on the sociocultural level. At the institutional level, the unavailability of vaccines in veterinary services, the lack of communication about the law on dog vaccination, the absence of rabies in the training curricula of veterinary agents, and the lack of intersectoral collaboration limit vaccination coverage. In order to improve vaccination coverage and rabies surveillance with a view to eradicate rabies by 2030, communication strategies that are adapted to the context and that take cultural obstacles into account must be put in place in a synergy of interdisciplinary action. In addition, factors such as affordability, geographical access and availability of dog rabies vaccines needs to be addressed throughout the country. Although our study design did not allow a detailed analysis of obstacles related to socio-economic level, gender and age the broad insights gained can provide general guidance for future interventions in Chad and similar countries.
