BackgroundGout is a prevalent and painful inflammatory arthritis. Increasingly studies have shown that the gut microbiota is associated with gout [1-3]. However, whether these associations reflect a causal relationship is still being determined.ObjectivesTo investigate whether there is a causal relationship between intestinal bacteria and gout, we used Mendelian randomization (MR) two-sample analysis.MethodsGout-related data were derived from the Integrated Epidemiology Unit (IEU) GWAS database, which included 2115 gout cases and 67259 controls [4]. The data on intestinal bacteria came from the website MRbase. We searched 173 species of bacteria and finally identified 5 genus species, which were theEubacterium brachy, Eubacterium hallii, Howardella, Sellimonas, andorder Mollicutes RF9. MR-Egger, weighted median, inverse variance weighting (IVW), and MR-PRESSO were used to conduct the double-sample MR analysis. Finally, we excluded the data related to poly-effect and heterogeneity to ensure the robustness of the results.ResultsFive kinds of gut microbiota (Eubacterium brachy, Eubacterium hallii, Howardella, Sellimonas, and order Mollicutes RF9) had a causal relationship with gout. According to inverse variance weighted estimation,Eubacterium hallii(odds ratio(OR) = 1.660, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.073-2.569, P = 0.023),Howardella(OR = 1.391, 95% CI: 1.058-1.828, P = 0.018) andSellimonas(OR = 1.384, 95% CI: 1.009-1.897, P = 0.044) were risk factors for gout.Eubacterium brachy(OR = 0.656, 95% CI: 0.469-0.917, P = 0.014) andorder Mollicutes RF9(OR = 0.641, 95% CI: 0.471-0.874, P = 0.005) showed protective effect against gout (Figure 1).ConclusionThis study suggested a causal relationship between these five gut microbiota and gout, providing new implications for future clinical trials on the association between microbiota and gout.References[1]Wang, Z., et al.,Gut microbiota remodeling: A promising therapeutic strategy to confront hyperuricemia and gout.Front Cell Infect Microbiol, 2022.12: p. 935723.[2]Chu, Y., S. This study quantified groundwater exploitation and assessed water quality risk perception in the Dar es Salaam quaternary aquifer through a socio-economic survey. Annual total groundwater exploitation was estimated, using the daily per capita consumption of groundwater derived from the household survey. A logistic regression analysis was performed to ascertain the influence of sex, marital status, education level, employment, income, and cost of water on groundwater quality risk perception. It was revealed that most residents of Dar es Salaam use groundwater as a main source of water supply. The results of this study further showed that 78% consider groundwater as a reliable source. Averting strategies for insufficient quantity of groundwater consist of minimizing less necessary water uses, while for poor quality, buying bottled water and water treatment by boiling and using chemicals. The chance for water quality risk perception is 0.205 times greater for married than unmarried household heads, and it is 623 times higher for employed versus unemployed household heads. To get an overall view of the importance of groundwater for domestic needs in Dar es Salaam it is imperative to combine a time series data of groundwater and surface water exploitation.

Background: About 30 percent of all road traffic deaths in Tanzania involve pedestrians. As one of the strategies to protect them, pedestrian overhead bridges have been constructed across busy roads, and plans to build more bridges are in place. It has, however, been shown that such pedestrian bridges do not necessarily discourage street-level road crossing, even when pedestrians must cross multiple lanes with heavy traffic. This paper explores the perceptions of pedestrians when crossing urban roads emphasizing pedestrian bridge users. Methods: Nineteen semi-structured interviews were conducted in situ around six pedestrian bridges in Dar es Salaam. All interviews were conducted in Swahili, recorded using digital devices, transcribed verbatim then translated into English. Content analysis was employed using qualitative data analysis software (MAXQDA). Results: We identified three overarching themes, namely, I don’t know if it’s right or wrong, they already decided; the bridge is just a crossing facility, not for other purposes; and follow your gut feeling, even if you don’t know how things will end. The results suggest that many participants prefer to look for alternative means of transport and resorted to more alternative routes just to avoid using pedestrian bridges due to bridges length and crossing time. Conclusion: These findings highlight the concerns caused by alternative uses of pedestrian bridges and underscore the importance of involving local communities and other stakeholders during planning.

This study explored Gender Based violence of male partners by female partners in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, using the qualitative approach. It employed a prolonged field engagement through in-depth interviews. While Dar es Salaam Region consists five municipalities, this study was conducted in Ilala Municipality owing its strategic location in the city with big populations and large social interactions. Through snowball sampling technique, 25 men were sampled as respondents and thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The study established that males experienced a variety of gender-based violence including physical, psychological and economic violence. Factors contributing to gender-based violence included lack of awareness and negative perception toward gender-based violence services. Because of the patriarchal nature of the society, men who experience GBV did not report the incidents since they felt being embarrassed and undermined by the community's social structure. Based on conclusions, the study recommends that men should strive to get empowered economically, considering that there has been a positive correlation between men’s economic powerlessness and violence against them by their partners. Affected men should be sensitized on the availability and significance of various institutions dealing with GBV; they should consult the institutions whenever they fall victim to GBV. Finally, there is a need for more male representation in gender desks since gender desks in many police stations currently lack equitable men representation.

Tanzania has been implementing several initiatives to address the challenge of street children in the country. Despite such efforts, the child streetism has become the daily reality and has shown the sign of increasing. This article explores the influence of income poverty on child streetism in urban Tanzania. Specifically, the article focused on analysing the live experiences of street children; and describing the influence of income poverty on streetism of children. The article adopted the descriptive cross-sectional design and involved a total of 56 informants who were purposively selected while the snowballing sampling technique was used in accessing street children. Semi-structured interview, documentary review and observation method were used to collect data. Through thematic and content data analysis techniques this article revealed that street children experienced difficulties in getting their basic needs and did not easily access health services when they fell sick. Further, child streetism has been largely influenced by income poverty. Hence, the study recommends that; develop a formal and functional support system to facilitate children on the street to access the educational services. Regarding coping strategies as an emerged issue, street children engaged into begging, unsafe sex and petty income-generating activities such as car wash and bottle collection. They also used self-medication to treat themselves when they fell sick or being left at the hospital buildings or on the street by their fellow street children when the condition got worse. Additionally, they did not have any coping strategy to enroll themselves into the school.

It has been noted that the horticultural sector does not have a clear system to determine both demand and supply that reflects inappropriate market information sharing. This study explored the market information sharing and assessed challenges impacting effective market information sharing in the horticultural sector (vegetables and fruits). The study is qualitative in nature because it seeks to explore information and it was carried out in Dar es Salaam City. The study employed phenomenological design for describing the essence of the experiences for several individuals who have all experienced the phenomenon. Purposive sampling was used to identify the useful groups and then stratified sampling technique was employed to get a total of 34 respondents from the clusters: farmers, middlemen, vendors, and agricultural officers. Interviews and document reviews were the tools used for collecting both primary and secondary data and the data collected were analyzed by the use of MAXQDA 2020. The study found out that the needed information are price, availability of produce, transportation, and delivery and money transaction methods to be used. Secondly, the results show that information sharing in the industry employs two ways, that is, word of mouth and the use of mobile phones. There are many challenges impacting effective market information sharing such as personal interest in providing information, poor knowledge, poverty, unprotected e-business, poor network, and poor transport facilities. Based on the findings, we strongly recommend that education should be given to the entire industry, to formalize the industry, and sharing of the collected market information through various platforms to enhance availability to anybody's needs.

This qualitative study, based on a phenomenological design, explored the lived experiences of child domestic workers aged 15 to 18 years in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Children in this age group are above the national and international legal minimum age for admission into light work. The findings of our study indicated that although domestic work is perceived by the child domestic workers as a method for impoverished children between the ages of 15 and 18 to earn money, get experience, and learn new life skills, it also entails loneliness, challenges in assimilating into an unfamiliar social context, and child sexual exploitation and abuse. Also, a significant number of CDWs originate from low-income, rural households, with financial poverty, children’s idleness after completion of primary school, and a desire for income serving as important antecedents for their entry into domestic work. The process of social construction of the concepts "a child" and "childhood" includes the idea of typification. Hence, in the Tanzanian socio-cultural atmosphere, domestic work for underprivileged youngsters may be a better alternative for survival than opting for other options like commercial sex work, remaining idle in financially precarious homes, working and living on the streets, and "panya road" (children's criminal gangs). In addition to addressing poverty, ensuring light (domestic work) for children under 18 years, and acknowledging that childhood and its roles differ depending on the sociocultural atmosphere, researchers and policymakers should pay attention to these children's best interests, socio-cultural realities, and their perspectives and worries regarding this phenomenon in a quest to developing research-driven interventions and policies.

Liberation – just it: A fading discussion? Rereading in destructive key about philosophy in Latin America. Palabras clave: Filosofía - destrucción - enajenación - liberación - ‘sin más’ AbstractThis article examines the authenticity of Latin American philosophy from the debate between Augusto Salazar Bondy and Leopoldo Zea. This debate is an academic and institutional theoretical synthesis of the “simply, liberation” tension; the discussion is permeated by the speculative profile of modern rationality. From a destructive approach, this article explores this turning point which usually sidesteps the breaking-up analysis and its reflexive possibilities; in this way, an important part of philosophising is subject to certain structures which get it out of its problematic and enquiring focus. Keywords: philosophy - breaking-up analysis - alienation - liberation - “without more ado”

This project manifests a business idea raised by a group of UPC students. The knowledge learned throughout the career of each one has been exposed in the following Work. Firstly, we have identified the problem where the user sees himself in the need to stay at home after fear of citizen insecurity, where high crime rates have made people choose to stay at home or a private place to have a good time. For this reason, we create a product for people to enjoy a pleasant moment without exposing themselves. Our target audience is people between 18 and 60 years of age from the NSE A - B of zones 7 and 8 of the Lima city. For this reason, we founded Tantay, a chili sauce with fine herbs 100% natural, made with quality ingredients of Peruvian origin and under an artisanal process, being an accompaniment option for snacks or other foods. A combination of flavors and textures is what our sauce represents, thanks to the wide variety of national ingredients that will provide freshness and naturalness to the product. To achieve all of the aforementioned, we have developed an analysis where strategic plans will be developed that include the Marketing Plan, the Operational Plan, the Human Resources Plan, the Social Responsibility Plan and the Financial Plan in order to evaluate the company and carry out the project successfully.

Da, Silva Polyana. "A novel image analysis approach to characterise the effects of dietary components on intestinal morphology and immune system in Atlantic salmon". Thesis, University of Stirling, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/20055.

Texto completo da fonte
Resumo:
The intestinal tract of salmonids provides a dynamic interface that not only mediates nutrient uptake but also functions as the first line of defence against ingested pathogens. Exposure of the immune system to beneficial microorganisms and different dietary immunostimulants via the intestine has been shown to prime the immune system and help in the development of immune competence. Furthermore, the morphology and function of teleostean intestines are known to respond to feed components and to ingested and resident bacterial communities. Histological appraisal is still generally considered to be the gold standard for sensitive assessment of the effects of such dietary modulation. The aim of the present study was to improve understanding of salmonid intestinal function, structure and dynamics and to use the knowledge gained to develop a model for analysis, which would allow intestinal health to be assessed with respect to different intestinal communities and feed components. Virtual histology, the process of assessing digital images of histological slides, is gaining momentum as an approach to supplement traditional histological evaluation methodologies and at the same time, image analysis of digitised histological sections provides a practical means for quantifiable assessment of structural and functional changes in tissues, being both objective and reproducible. This project focused on the development of a rapid, practical analytical methodology based on advanced image analysis, that was able to measure and characterise a range of features of the intestinal histology of Atlantic salmon in a quantitative manner. In the first research chapter, the development of a novel histological assessment system based upon advanced image analysis was described, this being developed with the help of a soybean feed model known to induce enteropathy in Atlantic salmon. This tool targeted the evaluation of the extent of morphological changes occurring in the distal intestine of Atlantic salmon following dietary modulation. The final analytical methodology arrived at, could be conducted with minimal user-interaction, allowing rapid and objective assessment of 12 continuous variables per histological frame analysed. The processing time required for each histological frame was roughly 20-25 min, which greatly improved the efficiency of conducting such a quantitative assessment with respect to the time taken for a subjective semi-quantitative alternative approach. Significant agreement between the fully automated and the manual morphometric image segmentation was achieved, however, the strength of this quantitative approach was enhanced by the employment of interactive procedures, which enabled the operator / observer to rectify preceding automated segmentation steps, and account for the specimen’s variations. Results indicated that image analysis provided a viable alternative to a pathologist’s manual scoring, being more practical and time-efficient. In the second research chapter, feeding Atlantic salmon a high inclusion level of unrefined SBM (25 %) produced an inflammatory response in the distal intestine as previously described by other authors. The model feed trial successfully generated differentiable states, although these were not, for the most part, systemically differentiable through the majority of standard immunological procedures used, being only detectable morphologically. Quantitation of morphometric parameters associated with histological sections using the newly developed image analysis tool successfully allowed identification of major morphological changes. Image analysis was thus shown to provide a powerful tool for describing the histomorphological structure of Atlantic salmon distal intestine. In turn, the semi-automated image analysis methods were able to distinguish normal intestinal mucosa from those affected by enteritis. While individual parameters were less discriminatory, use of multivariate techniques allowed better discrimination of states and is likely to prove the most productive approach in further studies. Work described in the third research chapter sought to validate the semi-automated image analysis system to establish that it was measuring the parameters it was purported to be measuring, and to provide reassurance that it could reliably measure pre-determined features. This study, using the same sections for semi-quantitative and quantitative analyses, demonstrated that the quantitative indices performed well when compared to analogous semi-quantitative descriptive parameters of assessment for enteritis prognosis. The excellent reproducibility and accuracy performance levels indicated that the image analysis system was a useful and reliable morphometric method for the quantification of SB-induced enteritis in salmon. Other characteristics such as rapidity, simplicity and adaptability favour this method for image analysis, and are particularly useful where less experienced interpreters are performing the analysis. The work described in the fourth research chapter characterised changes in the morphology of the intestinal epithelial cells occurring as a result of dietary modulation and aspects of inflammatory infiltration, using a selected panel of enzyme and IHC markers. To accomplish this, image analysis techniques were used to evaluate and systematically optimise a quantitative immunolabelling assessment protocol. Digital computer-assisted quantification of labelling for cell proliferation and regeneration; programmed cell death or apoptosis; EGCs and t-cell like infiltrates; mobilisation of stress-related protein regenerative processes and facilitation of nutrient uptake and ion transport provided encouraging results. Through the description of the intestinal cellular responses at a molecular level, such IHC expression profiling further characterised the inflammatory reaction generated by the enteropathic diet. In addition, a number of potential diagnostic parameters were described for fish intestinal health e.g. the relative levels of antigenicity and the spatial distribution of antigens in tissues. Work described in the final research chapter focused on detailed characterisation of intestinal MCs / EGCs in order to try to elucidate their functional role in the intestinal immune responses. Through an understanding of their distribution, composition and ultrastructure, the intention was to better characterise these cells and their functional properties. The general morphology, histochemical characteristics and tissue distribution of these cells were explored in detail using histochemical, IHC and immunogold staining / labelling, visualised using light, confocal and TEM microscopy. Despite these extensive investigations, their physiological function and the content of their granules still remain somewhat obscure, although a role as immunodulatory cells reacting to various exogeneous signals through a finely regulated process and comparable to that causing the degranulation of mammalian MCs is suggested. The histochemical staining properties demonstrated for salmonid MCs / EGCs seem to resemble those of mammalian mucosal mast cells, with both acidophilic and basophilic components in their granules, and a granule content containing neuromodulator / neurotransmitter-peptides such as serotonin, met-enkephalin and substance-p. Consequently, distinguishable bio-chromogenic markers have been identified that are of utility in generating a discriminatory profile for image analysis of such cells.

Therefore, this work contextualizes the regimes of Get?lio Vargas and Ant?nio de Oliveira Salazar, as well as the history of these feminine magazines. Based on the press as a central source of analysis, this work has the pretention to investigate the social roles established for women according to these magazines. Lastly, the research proposes a comparison between the regimes and the magazines to understand the effect of this production in society, specialty for women.

Resumo:
The purpose of aquaculture is to contribute to feed an increasing world population and to become more sustainable. Consequently, the aquafeed sector must adapt to supply more feed with less expensive and more eco-friendly ingredients. Insects have been studied as one of the promising and innovative protein sources. Evidence showed that their production leads to a circular bioeconomy, and generates positive societal externalities. Moreover, insects are considered fairly nutritious as aquafeed ingredients. Administering a new diet to fish rest on the assumption that animal welfare and final eating quality are preserved. The present thesis analyses the effects of feeding the Salmonidae Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) with diets containing the larvae of Hermetia illucens, belonging to the Diptera order. The ultimate goal of the present research is to provide a meaningful insight into the decision making process for feeding and farming in order to optimise the overall production process. To fulfil this ambition, three topics were taken into consideration: - gut microbiota, for its countless functions and widespread impacts that it can have on the hosts; - lipid metabolism, for better understanding the laws behind the lipid constitution in the final product; - final product quality, specifically addressing its fatty acid composition, for the importance of fish fatty acids in human nutrition. The results on gut microbiota of either A. salmon or rainbow trout indicated that microbiota composition is modulated by dietary insect and that it differs depending on sample origin (mucosa or digesta). In addition to changes in composition, microbiota of fish fed diets containing insects was also marked by higher alpha- and beta-diversity. Additionally, mucosa samples tended to show lower alpha-biodiversity in comparison to digesta samples, fact that could be explained by positing that mucosa exercises an active selection. The examinations on lipid metabolism were performed on rainbow trout by calculating the indices of fatty acid metabolism and the ratio of products:precursors in liver and fillet, as well as by qPCR gene expression of pyloric caeca, mid intestine and liver. The three approaches agreed on the fact that lipid metabolism was affected by the diets containing the insect. Specifically, pyloric caeca elovl2 relative expression seemed to show an increased trend when rainbow trout were fed diets containing the insect. Also pyloric caeca and mid intestine fads2 expression seemed to increase following the increasing dietary insect. Minor effects on protein, fatty acid composition and fillet quality were noticed. Fillet fatty acid profile of A. salmon and rainbow trout fed diets containing the insect partly resembled the dietary fatty acid profile, commonly by showing an increase in saturated fatty acids. The cardioprotective fatty acids, namely polyunsaturated of the n-3 series, were successfully retrieved in fish fillets in satisfying amounts, not reflecting the dietary content. In addition, consumers appreciated steamed A. salmon fillets irrespective of the dietary treatment, though small weaknesses related to color intensity and textural attributes were raised in the fillets of the insect group. All things considered, diets containing insect guaranteed a nutritious and appreciated food. To conclude, as some bacteria may protect fish from pathogens as well as enhance physiological functions, it is highly desirable to delve into the effects that bacterial communities have on fish biology. Likewise, an interaction of microbiota with lipid metabolism cannot be excluded. H. illucens larvae used as dietary source for A. salmon and rainbow trout modulated lipid metabolism, but the final eating quality of fillets was highly preserved. It seems probable that the modulation of other oily ingredients may play a role in generating such an outcome, and further studies would be necessary to unravel the underlying dynamics. Additionally, tailoring H. illucens larvae by rearing them on a substrate from marine origin could help improve the final result.

The final chapter touches back on the stories of veteran activists Wendy Barranco, Phoenix Johnson, Monique Salhab, Monisha Ríos, Stephen Funk, and Brittany Ramos DeBarros to consider the future of Veterans For Peace and About Face within the larger field of national and international movements for peace and social justice. The chapter touches on the state of the current intergenerational dialogue taking place in these organizations, and ends with a critical analysis of how the intersectional praxis of a new generation of progressive activists holds the promise of bridging the struggle against militarism and war with other large issues of the day, including climate change, global pandemics, and the continuing violence of economic, racial, gender, and sexual injustice.

One afternoon in late summer of 2010 I was walking home from the shops when I bumped into Punk Paul. ‘Hungry?’ He joked in his thick West Yorkshire accent, gesturing to my bags full of bread, salad, sausages, and wine. ‘I’m having a BBQ at my flat with some friends. Do you want to come?’ Paul eagerly took a few bags from me and we began to the short walk up the hill to where I lived in Bristol. By then I had known him for almost two and a half years. We trusted one another. As we entered the flat, we were first greeted by my dogs, Joey and Pea. Both dogs wagged cheerfully before diving nose first into the bags that we were carrying. ‘Get out of there!’ Paul said gently to the dogs. They knew him from fieldwork. As I started to unpack the shopping, Paul sat cross-legged on the floor, stroking the dogs so that they settled down beside him. ‘Are you any good at making burgers?’ I asked Paul, slapping beef mince and onions onto the kitchen worktop. ‘Can I put some music on? I can’t work wi’out music,’ he said. I tossed him my phone. ‘What the fuck am I supposed to do wi’ that?’ ‘It has music on it!’ I laughed, taking back the phone and flicking to the music library. I gave it to Paul so that he could choose what we listened to and we spent the next hour or so chopping vegetables, dressing leaves and making burgers to Nobody’s Heroes by Stiff Little Fingers. Friends arrived, we barbecued, and, as it got later, one friend put her little girl to sleep in my bed. Paul came to the door of the bedroom where I was reading the little girl a story. ‘Marmite!’ I heard him say my name in a loud whisper. ‘Thanks for your hospitality mate but I’ve got to get going now.’ I went to the door. ‘Everything OK, Paul?’

In a world where the progress in technology, the affirmation of social media platforms, and gaming have made the universe a much smaller place, it should be natural to recreate this boundless space in our classroom and more so in our language classroom. Nevertheless, this is not always the case as the idea of a multicultural, diverse, and multilingual class is still opposed by many educators. Some fear that focusing on multiculturality could endanger any sense of shared tradition, values, and beliefs in 'one particular' society (i.e., American society). In addition to that, language teachers might fear that embracing multiculturality would take attention away from the culture they are there to teach. The debate becomes even more interesting when we move to multilingualism, especially in the language classroom. The author proposes that we start seeing the language classroom as a 'mixed salad bowl' where all the students mix but get to keep their own identity and culture.

It was standing-room only in the South Graham Elementary School (SGE) gym at the “Latin America through the Decades” event on a September evening in 2016. Principal Elizabeth Price welcomed students and their families, speaking Spanish and English in her usual fashion. An audience of more than two hundred people cheered and clapped as kindergarten classes walked onstage wearing white gloves and jean jackets, Michael Jackson– style. They performed choreographed dances to Latin pop music from the 1980s and sang songs with great enthusiasm and huge smiles. Older students followed with different performances highlighting music from the Americas. Afterward, a salsa band appeared onstage and played music as families met teachers and students got stamps on “passports” they had made in school. Despite the fact that the gym was crowded and hot, the audience lingered, laughed, and learned about the extraordinary work of the SGE community, which has embraced learning models that celebrate the heritage and linguistic skills of its Latino students....

This chapter opines on the prospect for another African American to helm the White House kitchen at some point in the future. No African Americans have presided over the White House kitchen since Zephyr Wright did in the late 1960s. Given the current way that chefs often get hired to work in the contemporary White House, future chefs will likely come from the existing kitchen staff, as the personal chef of a future president or as someone of stature in the culinary world. The chapter gives the back story of the 1994 State Dinner held in honor of Republic of South African President Nelson Mandela. The chapter ends by looking at how the contemporary White House kitchen inspires young people today with a special emphasis on former First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" Initiative and the Kids' State Dinners she hosted during her tenure. This chapter profiles Chef Patrick Clark, Chef Marcus Samuelsson, White House kitchen steward Adam Collick and Kiana Farkash. The chapter includes recipes for sesame and wasabi-crusted halibut, layered late-summer vegetables with lemongrass and red curry dressing, grilled salmon with farro, Swiss chard salad, and a tropical smoothie.

Abstract Dona Petronila had visited the Marfns not only to introduce Teodora and bring the news from Saucedo, but also to ask Don Fernando to intercede with the new subprefect; and therefore, as soon as Martina, the sexton’s wife, had left, she said, “My dear Don Fernando, “I do know him, but very slightly; still... what did you have in mind?”“Too bad! I wanted a letter to certify that my friends Teodora and Don Gaspar are worthy citizens entitled to be treated with respect. After all that’s happened, you can imagine how those poor folks are trem bling when they think they may get other boorish visitors like that colonel,” said Dona Petronila, fastening her shawl. “I’m sorry to say I can’t help you directly, but I’ll try to use the influence of a friend,” Marin answered. “Salas is related to the new subprefect,” Lucia pointed out. “Yes, but I don’t plan to appeal to him but to Guzman, because he’ll help me to work on behalf oflsidro Champi.” ‘‘And meanwhile you, Dona Petronila, could see how Don Sebastian might take care of this matter of the sexton,” Lucia recommended.

In the project “Mentor Migration SALAM -Spielen Austauschen Lernen Achtsam Miteinander (Playing-Sharing- Learning-Attentively-Together) students mentor a child from a migrant family for a period of 8 months. They spend about three hours of leisure time a week together. The students are assigned to only one child, so they can develop an interpersonal relationship to that child and its family. For the children the project helps to expand their horizons, gaining a wider knowledge of their surroundings, the urban neighborhood they live in, the city itself. The act of students and pupils coming together, offers in itself, lots of learning opportunities: the children are forced to communicate, they negotiate the choice of activities with the students; they explore new places and spaces; they learn something about student life. The students on the other, hand gain a better awareness of how to act in intercultural encounters; they gain insights into milieus they would usually not know or have the opportunity to enter. They can assist the families with any questions regarding the German educational system. 50-70 students per year have been involved since 2009. The Freiburg University of Education, the City of Freiburg and four primary schools are cooperating in the project. The University recruits and selects the students and supports them via supervision. The project is integrated into the curriculum, so that the students can also get credit for taking part. The whole project is regularly evaluated and scientifically escorted. Some of the evaluation results are presented here.

A plataforma utilizada serão Android e Desktop.

Many farms grow pumpkins, which they use to feed people and domestic animals. A by-product of this production is pumpkin seeds. He can get very high quality salad oil from it, which has a high market price. Pumpkin seeds contain up to 55% oil. The paper analyzes 19 pumpkin genotypes originating from Central and Western Serbia. Fruit weight, dry seed weight and randman were measured. The highest fruit weight and seed weight were found in G13 and G4, while the randman was highest in G19 and G3 and was inversely proportional to fruit and seed weight. Genotypes suitable for pumpkin seed production should have a larger number of smaller fruits (2-5 kg), which have a better randman, and therefore are important for oil production.

ABSTRACT This work evaluates the caprock deflections at various timeframes induced by underground injection of CO2 in all flow regimes for cap integrity considerations in CO2 sequestration. The pressure profiles in the various regimes are not known a-priori and depend strongly on the pumping scenarios followed and are hence obtained numerically via CFD numerical simulations that were performed with the software Ansys-Fluent. Following a decoupled approach for time effectiveness, pressure profiles are approximated by logarithmic functions and integrated into a mathematical model assuming elastic medium storage, cap and surface rocks while the formulation is in the spirit of the Germain-Poisson-Kirchhoff thin plate theory. Elastic solutions are developed for the axisymmetric flexure deflections of the cap layer during CO2 internal pressurization of the aquifer for the low buoyancy and high buoyancy regimes. The novelty of the model lies in the fact that is capable for estimating fast and accurately the deflections created in the various flow regimes with a simplified approach, effectively avoiding the time consuming fully coupled FEA-CFD and could be used as a convenient tool for evaluating cap rock integrity. The results of the analysis indicate that for the set of data used, most uplift magnitudes are not capable for creating fractures on the cap rock compromising the cap integrity when the solution is mapped in the high-buoyancy regime. On the other hand, if the solution is mapped in the low-buoyancy regime the pressure-induced, could cause poro-elastic deflections over time which could lead eventually to fracture creation. INTRODUCTION Deep geologic storage of hazardous and toxic fluids, by injection into confined formations for isolation has always been an option for environmental management (Raza et al., 2019). Saline aquifers have proved to be very promising geologic formations for CO2 storage. The hydromechanical contribution in the coupled process involved in CO2 sequestration have received scientific attention because the hydrodynamic trapping of CO2 is associated with the pore space of storage rocks (Bachu and Adams, 2022; Bachu, 2003). The hydrodynamic process of injection leads to the development of an evolving plume within the storage rock confined by a very low permeability cap/seal rock. The advancing plume displaces the resident water (brine) acting as immiscible fluids (Nordbotten and Celia, 2006; Houseworth, 2012). The type of evolution/propagation is controlled by the relative strength of the injection rates and buoyancy effects, as well as the relative mobility of CO2 plume to brine, during sequestration of CO2 under supercritical conditions. This plume propagates as large volumes of CO2 are injected into the aquifer over time, creating overpressure in the formation and perturbs the stress field which extends both vertically and laterally to the cap rock, possibly compromising its integrity (Nordbotten et al., 2005; Dentz and Tartakovsky, 2009; Sarris et al., 2014; Guo et al., 2016a). Currently, there are several on-going CO2 storage projects at various scales, e.g. pilot scale: Ketzin, Cranfield, Frio, demonstration scale: Decatur and large commercial scale: Sleipner, Shohvit, Gorgon and In-Salah. The latter, the In-Salah injection site is a deep saline project in Algeria (Guo et al., 2016b). Stratigraphically, the aquifer is overlaid by an impermeable caprock which is necessary for preventing CO2 from escaping to the atmosphere. It is then understood that the cap uplift and/or integrity over time is a significant issue (Sarris and Gravanis, 2019; Shukla et al., 2010).

Humans and animals have co-evolved for millions of years. The animal connection began with the exploitation and observation of animals by humans. Over time, regular social interactions were incorporated into the animal connection. This connection has also allowed us to utilize humans to help support and augment our skills and abilities; physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Of course, this relationship has changed over time as our connection and understanding of these animals’ capabilities has evolved as well as through the co-evolution of our species. At the same time, the future of human-autonomy teams shows a strong trend toward incorporating features to allow the human to engage with their robotic counterparts in a more natural way. Norman (2004) suggests that “products and systems that make you feel good are easier to deal with.” As the interfaces of robots, computers, and inanimate objects are designed to be more “intelligent,” humans may adapt the way they interact with, communicate, and think about such technology, treating objects more like humans. Humans (and many other animals) display a remarkably flexible and rich array of social competencies, demonstrating the ability to interpret, predict, and react appropriately to the behavior of others, as well as to engage others in a variety of complex social interactions. Developing computational systems that have these same sorts of social abilities is a critical step in designing robots, animated characters, and other computer agents that appear intelligent and capable in their interactions with humans (and each other), that can cooperate with people as capable partners, that are able to learn from natural human instruction, and that are intuitive and engaging for humans to interact with. Yet, today, many current technologies (animated agents, computers, etc.) interact with us in a manner characteristic of socially impaired people. In the best cases they know what to do, but often lack the social intelligence to do it in a socially appropriate manner. As a result, they frustrate us, and we quickly dismiss them even though they can be useful. It may instead be more useful to look at how humans interact and work with their animal counterparts. Like anthropomorphism, zoomorphism centers on attributing qualities to non-sentient beings; but in this case; it focuses on animal-like characteristics (Karanika & Hogg, 2020). In many contexts, teams are capable of solving complex problems well beyond the capacity of any one individual team member (Salas, Rosen, Burke, & Goodwin, 2009). However, not all teams are successful, and failures often come at a high cost. Why this is important is that humans often do not ascribe the same intelligence, consciousness, or abilities to animals as they do to humans and therefore may be less apt to get frustrated when it does not perform as expected. Also, understanding what different strengths and weaknesses each team member possesses will ultimately allow that team to be more successful. While animal-inspired designs have aided in improved robotic movement and manipulation, we maintain that design inspired by human-animal teaming can provide similar gains in robotic development, especially as it concerns improved human-robot interaction and teaming. As most people have far more experience interacting with animals than with robots, they are generally more able to recognize limitations in an animal’s ability to complete a task (Phillips, Ososky, Swigert, & Jentsch, 2012). In consequence, robotic designs inspired by human-animal relationships can lead to faster acceptance while fostering more effective interactions between humans and robots, as humans tap into well-established mental models, promote better understanding of near-future robots, and thus appropriately calibrate trust in near-future robotic teammates.
