Christian literature in the Netherlands at the end of the 20th century Christian literature implicitly or explicitly incorporates the idea of hope in Christ. Literature has an inherent ethical element and this element can also bear a Christian character. Following upon the ergocentric literary approach of the sixties more room has recently been given to “moralizing the literary domain as a corrective of the aestheticising of literature” (J.J.A. Mooij). Despite this trend Christian literature has not flourished in secularized Dutch society. Internally, Christian literature is endangered by Christian readers expecting a one-dimensional message; externally Christian literature as such is not recognized sufficiently by literary critics having no ties with or knowledge of Christianity. The existence of Christian literature in the Netherlands is, however, evident at the end of the 20th century. Although narrative prose inspired by the Christian message has not produced remarkably many novels, the novels of Mance ter Andere have definitely attracted attention. Christian poetry, however, is flourishing (Inge Lievaart, Guillaume van der Graft, Koos Geerds). In this essay it is contended that Christian literary critics have the advantage of being able to interpret and fathom biblical elements in literature, thus adding an ethical dimension to the evaluation of literature.

De katholieke doorbraaksocialist Sjeng, voluit Jean Guillaume Hubert, Tans (1912-1993) was één van de belangrijkste exponenten van de doorbraak, het principiële uitgangspunt van de PvdA. Tegen het einde van zijn "aardse loopbaan" bekeek Tans zijn "zorgvuldig afgesloten prijzenkast": ridder in de orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, erepenning in goud van de gemeente Maastricht en nog één van de provincie Limburg, de dr. Tans-penning, de dr. Tans-leerstoel en een eredoctoraat van de Rijksuniversiteit Limburg. Vooral de verheffing "tot de eer van het Maastrichtse altaar" deed hem goed, ook al besefte hij dat zelfs een "heilige maar een mens blijkt te zijn". Op 25 februari 1993 overleed Tans in zijn geboorteplaats Maastricht.

Különösen a digitális és a zöldátálláshoz van szükség ezekre a különleges anyagokra. A ritka(föld)fémekkel kapcsolatban azonban van két probléma: egyrészt kitermelésük rendkívül környezetszennyező, másrészt néhány ország, elsősorban Kína, monopolizálta az előállításukat. Ez jelentős zavarokhoz, konfliktusokhoz, akár háborúkhoz vezethet. "Josquin des Prez has composed at least 20 masses. This article focuses on the presentation and analysis of compositional techniques in Missa de Beata Virgine used by Josquin des Prez. He used different techniques from the XVI. century: paraphrased cantus firmus melody, tropus, imitative and polyphonic techniques. His early style testifies to the influence of Guillaume Dufay and Jan van Ockeghem. Following his Italian experience he mastered the homophonic compositional technique, which strengthened the text-music relationship in his works. This thesis provides an analytical interpretation of the critique Dutch nineteenth-century statesman-cum-historian Guillaume Groen van Prinsterer (1801-1876) articulated of French revolutionary ideology. It achieves an original reading of Groen's thought as Protestant right-order theory. This reading achieves a clarification of the functions that Scripture, 'nature', and 'history' have in his thought, and connects his thinking to that of a small group of contemporary British-based political theologians, notably Oliver and Joan Lockwood O'Donovan, and their minority view on the ontological grounding of justice. Our comparison of Groen's argument of 'history' with that of Edmund Burke achieves original critical leverage on their concepts of 'history', and draws out that Burke's critique of the Revolution purposes to re-affirm English common law, while Groen's is an apologia for Christianity.

Notre thèse se concentre sur la question des mécanismes de restructuration du système du monde de l’art à Bruxelles à la fin du XIXe siècle. Nous cherchons à démontrer comment une nouvelle scène artistique construite autour du cercle des XX à Bruxelles, dont l’épanouissement sera pris en charge par l’animateur d’art Octave Maus, produit un art qui est influencé par les enjeux sociaux et politiques portés par un milieu défini de manière sociale, culturelle et générationnelle.

Nous avons ainsi voulu replacer le groupe des XX dans son contexte économique, politique et social. La diversification des approches et des sources était donc un aspect essentiel de nos recherches. Plusieurs voies d’approche ont été empruntées, telles que l’histoire culturelle, la sociologie de l’art, l’histoire du marché de l’art, l’analyse politique ainsi que l’étude de la visual culture.

Dans un premier temps, nous analysons l’émergence de la nouvelle scène artistique construite autour du groupe des XX. Nous débutons par une analyse plus monographique du parcours de Maus afin de définir les qualités essentielles de l’animateur d’art qu’il incarne, ainsi que son rôle dans la reconfiguration du milieu culturel. Ensuite, notre étude se concentre sur la mobilisation d’un public autour des salons et la mise en place d’un nouveau marché de l’art aux XX.

Dans un second temps, notre étude se penche sur les œuvres créées par les XX et sélectionnées par le public d’amateurs fidèles au groupe. Nous éclairons cette production artistique en y décelant les influences des questionnements et des prises de position sociales et politiques du public des XX, défini précédemment. L’analyse iconographique et stylistique des œuvres s’accompagne d’un travail sur ce milieu culturel, et particulièrement sur ses positions face aux débats sociaux de l’époque. Cette étude aboutit, d’une part, à une description approfondie du public des XX, et, d’autre part, à une meilleure compréhension de l’originalité de la production esthétique des artistes du groupe. /

This PhD thesis concentrates on the mechanisms by which the artistic world in Brussels was reorganized at the end of the 19th century. The research focuses on the places, institutions, publics, art markets and aesthetic developments that characterized the new artistic scene constructed around the “Salon des XX”. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that this artistic circle, led by Octave Maus, produced an art influenced by social, political and economic issues. Another aim has been to analyze the public that defended the artists by studying its social, cultural and generational nature.

This thesis, which is divided into two parts, for the first time explores the circle of the XX in its economic, political and social environment. The diversification of sources and scientific methods was therefore an essential aspect of the research. Different methods were applied such as, for example, the cultural history, the sociology of art, the history of the art market, political sciences and the visual culture.

The first part of this study is about the emergence of a new artistic scene founded around the “Groupe des XX”. The first objective was to investigate the personal and professional path followed by Octave Maus, the manager of the XX, who played a major role in the evolution of the cultural world. Subsequently the research focuses on the mobilization of a particular public and the creation of a new art market around the XX’s exhibitions.

The second part of this thesis considers the works of art created by the artists of the “Groupe des XX” and chosen by the public for private collections. New light is shed on this artistic production by the study of the social and political position of the XX’s public, considered as a social group. Hence the iconographic and stylistic analysis of the works goes together with a study of the XX’s milieu, and in particular with its political action. The present thesis, and the method that aims to study the works in parallel with the public’s social nature, lead to a better understanding of the cultural milieu and, at the same time, of the originality of the XX’s artistic creation.

The polymer industry has been challenged to produce new polymeric materials by blending two or more homopolymers or random copolymers or by synthesizing graft copolymers. To meet the challenge, various methods have been explored, namely, (1) by synthesizing a new monomer, polymerizing it, and then blending it with an existing homopolymer or random copolymer, (2) by copolymerizing existing monomers and then blending it with an existing homopolymer or random copolymer, (3) by chemically modifying an existing homopolymer or random copolymer and then blending it with other homopolymers or copolymers already available, or (4) by synthesizing new compatibilizer(s) to improve the mechanical properties of two immiscible homopolymers or random copolymers that otherwise have unacceptable mechanical properties. There are numerous monographs (Cooper and Estes 1979; Han 1984; Paul and Newman 1978; Platzer 1971, 1975; Sperling 1974; Utracki 1990) describing various aspects of polymer blends. In the 1970s, Han and coworkers (Han 1971, 1974; Han and Kim 1975; Han and Yu 1971a, 1971b, 1972; Han et al. 1973, 1975; Kim and Han 1976) conducted seminal experimental studies on the rheology of immiscible polymer blends and related the observed rheological behavior to blend morphology. Independently, in the same period, Vinogradov and coworkers (Ablazova et al. 1975; Brizitsky et al. 1978; Tsebrenko et al. 1974, 1976; Vinogradov et al. 1975) conducted a series of experimental studies relating the blend rheology to blend morphology. Van Oene (1972, 1978) also pursued, independently, experimental studies for a better understanding of rheology–morphology relationships in immiscible polymer blends. Since then, using different polymer pairs, numerous researchers have conducted experimental studies, which were essentially the same as, or very similar to, the previous experimental studies of Han and coworkers, Vinogradov and coworkers, and van Oene in the 1970s. It is fair to state that those studies in the 1980s and 1990s have not revealed any significant new findings.
