Before 2005, Michael Portillo was a reviled populist, right-wing British Conservative politician. Seemingly, he is a now a mellowed national treasure due largely to his approachable, friendly, prolific series of travelogues, Great British Railway Journeys (2010‐present). This multi-series documentary has been a remarkable BBC success: delivering upbeat music, dynamic camera work, a repetitive format, rosy-tinted Victoriana and celebratory subject matter, the programme makers ensure that the programme is feel-good, cosy, nostalgic and soothing. But Portillo’s political inclinations are apparent: Portillo, sometimes quite subtly, expresses consistently his passion for free enterprise, for the supposed benefits of historical colonialism, for the monarchy, for the military and for social liberalism. A believer in an enterprise-encouraging small state and in personal liberty and social mobility, Portillo’s politics chime in directly with the current thinking of the Conservative Party leadership. In short, the apparently benign travelogue series promotes Portillo’s mainstream post-Thatcherite British Conservatism: an analysis of the ubiquitous programme’s understated but clear Conservatism counters right-wing accusations about the BBC’s alleged leftist bias.

Japan-China cultural ties in the late 1970s and early 1980s received a powerful impetus for development against the background of deepening interstate relations in 1970s. In this period, it had begun the turn of Chinese foreign policy towards increasing ties with market economy countries. Traditionally, cultural transfer from China to Japan was a mainstream in the interrelations of the two countries, but during 20th century political relations and cultural dialogue experienced a series of dramatic changes. After the end of World War II, despite ideological contradictions, cultural contacts between China and Japan expanded steadily. This article aims to study the travels of prominent and award-winning Japanese novelist Inoue Yasushi to northwest China in 1977–1980 as an attempt by Japan to expand its participation in Asian affairs and to consider in detail the multi-ethnic and multicultural China. To view and understand real China. The main source of the analysis and reconstruction of the travel route is a travelogue “My travel notes to Western Regions” (Watashi no seiki kiko:, in 2 vols) published in 1983. This study summarizes information about Inoue Yasushi’s travels to the Chinese part of Turkestan, clarifies the gradual deepening of cultural dialogue between Japan and China and examines the images of the ancient cities of the Great Silk Road, which the writer, known for his loyalty to China, created through a nostalgic “view into the past” in order to explain the cultural unity and specifics of the region as part of China.

Landscape quality is a crucial factor for the heritage attractiveness of tourism, allowing tourists to experience both natural and cultural aspects along railway journeys. Moreover, railway landscape is a comprehensive system that defines the landscape observed and perceived by passengers and is characterized by the diversity and continuity of the train’s movement. Yunnan-Vietnam railway (YVR) heritage is the research object of this research, whose area encompasses various landscape types and heritage sites, providing great landscape enjoyment. Currently, the assessment methods specifically for railway landscape have been discussed less than for other landscape types, especially for a series of large linear sites like the YVR. To evaluate the value of railway heritage landscape along the railway, this paper proposes a methodology combining the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Delphi method, and GIS as an integrated spatial assessment. Creatively, this paper seeks to: (1) discuss the relationship between railway and landscape; (2) build a comprehensive evaluation system for the railway heritage landscape, covering the topics of history, tourism, ecology, heritage, social-culture, and visual quality; (3) quantify the landscape value of the YVR areas. Thus, the results of this research can be useful to future urban planning, development, and policymaking.

Arab stage plays took their time in the development and making their place in the world throughout the ancient times. The article shines a light on the phases and struggles Arab theatre went through in making such majestic art and performances that are a source of entertainment for people from all over the world. Mainly the struggles were because of religious issues that initiated many other issues like the censorship and not having enough popularity in the Arab states that put up a limit to the theatre establishments forcing the artists to make journeys in order to seek their audience as many things did not sit well in the mindsets of the religious Arabs. However, later on, the theatre started stretching its roots in the hearts of the audience. Performances like Shadow Puppetry and Passion plays took over many viewers and became an important part of the Arab culture. One of the most important eras in the history of Arabic drama development was that of the Egyptian era, which holds a reputation to this time and tells a lot of religious and historic stories through its innovative art play. The article also highlights the great contribution of Ibn Danyal Al-Khuzai to the plays through his three phenomenal theatre scripts that were enacted upon by many diverse cultures and ethnicities, furthermore, the influence Western drama culture made in Arab states and its impact that came with series of events.

Он странствовал, добровольно или под принуждением, по Старому Свету от Сицилии до Скандинавии и от Лондона до Петербурга, совершил экскурсию на Ниагарский водопад, посетил индейские и негритянские деревни Земли Вашингтона и потому, что не чувствовал себя спокойно при мысли, что лучше познал чужие края, чем землю отцов, в 1811 году предпринял цикл исторических путешествий по Польше, в которых, кроме туристических целей, хотел проявить свой гражданский протест против установления в 1772 году границ государствами-захватчиками на земле Речи Посполитой Обоих Народов. State, national and cultural borders in Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz’s memorial prose Born in Skoki, near Brest, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz was part of a group of people in the Enlightenment period who were exceptionally interested in the world, which led to his numerous travels across Europe and America. He travelled, voluntarily or under coercion, across the Old Continent, from Sicily to Scandinavia, and from London to St. Petersburg; he went on a trip to Niagara Falls, visited Indian and Negro villages in the Washington Land, and, feeling uncomfortable with the idea that he had got to know foreign lands better than his fatherland, in 1811 he embarked on a series of historical journeys across Poland, during which, in addition to pursuing tourist goals, he wanted to manifest his civic objection to the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1772. In his accounts memoirs, letters and literary works he consistently challenged administrative demarcation lines, crossing them with great difficulty, faithful as he was to the belief that Poland’s borders had been set once and for all by rulers from the Houses of Piast and Jagiellon. He accepted no changes of the borders and reduction of the country’s territory, and obviously did not acknowledge the loss of statehood in 1795. What became the most problematic for him was the crossing of the border separating first the Duchy of Warsaw and then the Kingdom of Poland from the Russian Empire.

Astral information appears in a wide variety of cuneiform texts: astronomical manuals, omen series, reports written by celestial diviners to the kings, letters, prayers, and myths. This paper examines one of these myths, Inanna/Ištar’s Descent into the Netherworld, to trace the parallels between Inanna/Ištar’s journey in the netherworld and the planet Venus. The Mesopotamian goddess Inanna/Ištar is represented in her astral aspect as Venus, who is both the evening star, visible after sunset, and the morning star, visible before sunrise. In the myth, she travels from the ‘great heavens above’ into the netherworld, the ‘great below’, where she passes through seven gates. At each gate, she is symbolically stripped of her divine radiance (mêlammū) by the removal of her clothing and adornments. She is held prisoner by the queen of the netherworld, her older sister, Ereškigal. During the goddess’ captivity, procreation and fertility of the land cease. She is eventually rescued and released in exchange for her lover, Dumuzi/Tammuz, who must reside half of the year in the netherworld in her place. Though the myth is traditionally understood as a seasonal aetiology, with its familiar ancient Mediterranean dying-rising god motif, and as the Mesopotamians’ conception of afterlife, using iconographic representations and linguistic comparisons with the astral omen texts, another interpretation explaining the movements and periodic disappearance of Venus is noticeable.

China's Great Bay Area covers Hong Kong S.A.R, Macau S.A.R, Shenzhen, and many other cities in Guangdong Province and is one of China's most economically prosperous areas. Thousands of people start their businesses in this area every year. It is a well-known belief that knowledge management can help business success; however, start-up companies may face many issues in applying knowledge management to achieve their success. Therefore, this study examines the challenges and problems of knowledge management implementation in start-up companies in this region. Conducting a series of semi-structured interviews with owners of start-up companies, this study tries to find several challenges of these companies, such as a lack of knowledge management systems and expertise in the domain. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study investigating the knowledge management challenges of start-up companies in China’s Great Bay Area. It also provides significant managerial implications that can help these companies to embark on the knowledge management journey successfully.

Journey to the West as one of the ‘four great Chinese classic novels’ has had an extraordinary influence across history and around the world. Journey to the West depicts how a Tang Dynasty Buddhist monk Xuanzang and his three disciples went through 81 trials to obtain the Buddhist texts (Sutras) from the Western Heaven (ancient India). Despite the novel itself being a product of a long history of adaptation, this article aims to offer an overview of the modern and contemporary cross-media adaptations of both the novel and the tale Journey to the West, with examples of literature (including web fictions), stage performances, films, TV series, manga and animation, video games and music. These adaptations not only happen in the Chinese-speaking world but also on an Asian and global level. Through introducing the extensive and diverse cases that inform an idea of ‘IP (intellectual property)’ as favoured in the Chinese cultural market, this article aims to point out the cultural and capital flow within this one single series of adaptations. In place of a relationship between source and adaptation, the contemporary context supports the idea of a wider context in which a source may be seen to validate a range of new and highly commercialized genres. It is developed from a presentation in the 2019 JAFP symposium Looking Back, Stepping Forward.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop an understanding of the impact that a crisis such as that created by COVID-19 has on entrepreneurs. The authors focus on female entrepreneurs and their ability and propensity to continue their entrepreneurial journey. Design/methodology/approach For each respondent (n = 113), data was collected using an online survey. The survey was distributed in April 2020 during a nationwide lockdown and again in September 2020 as the economy reopened. In completing the survey, respondents were asked a series of multiple-choice questions and a series of open-ended questions. Findings The authors present data characterizing the female entrepreneurs, their experience during a time of crisis and the enablers and disablers to the continuation of their entrepreneurial journey. The key findings that emerge from this study include the resilience of the female entrepreneurs, their willingness to contribute to community-based organizations during a crisis and their desire to seek and receive support from their peers. Originality/value The findings from this study provide novel insights with regard to the resources and strategies used by female entrepreneurs during a time of crisis. The data was collected during two periods of great uncertainty for the entrepreneurs and at times when their availability was extremely limited.

The ‘Journey to the West’, also translated as the’ Pilgrimage to the West’, is one of the masterpieces of ancient Chinese literature. Published anonymously by the putative author Wu Cheng'en in the late 16th century, the story traces in broad outline the journey taken by the monk Tripitaka in the year 629 a.D. to India to acquire Buddhist scriptures, and it is the result of reworking antecedent works, such as ‘Poetic notes on the pilgrimage of Tripitaka of the Great Tang to acquire the Sutras’ and ‘‹Journey to the West› Opera’. In this fiction, the writer moves away from the authenticity of the traditional pilgrimage: here the monk is escorted by sinful-followers (i.e., a dragon-horse, a pig, a demon, and a monkey) capable of removing malevolent beings throughout the journey. Sun Wukong is the wild and skillful monkey that ascends to Buddhity, becoming a ‘Victorious Fighting Buddha’ at the end of the literary work. Later on, the Chinese work of fiction was used as a source of inspiration for the creation of Dragon Ball, a Japanese fantasy & martial arts manga. Published in 1984 as a manga and then adapted into an anime, Dragon Ball sketchily follows the Chinese work of fiction. After coming across Bulma, young Son Gokū decides to escort the girl in her quest to collect seven magic dragon spheres. The series’ success allowed the manga’s author, Akira Toriyama, to continue the story arc and launch a new series in 2015. Since 1986, several videogames with a monkey character have entered the market. The purpose of this article is to highlight the main affinities between Sun Wukong and his Japanese counterpart Son Gokū first, and then attempt to explain how the monkey character has become a world-famous symbol, and contextualise it into the phenomenon of ‘worldwide pilgrimage’.

The article presents the results of the analysis of domestic paradigms of the philosophy of language of the second half of the twentieth – early 21st century. The processes of sequential construction and deconstruction of a series of domestic paradigms of the twentieth century are shown — the ‘new doctrine of language’ (Japhetic theory) (1923–1950), the inter-paradigm period (1950–1956), the ‘new Marxist linguistics’ (1957–1993) and the post–paradigm period (the end of the 90s of the twentieth century – the first quarter of the XXI century). Science is pushed forward not only by the discovery of new facts, but also a new look at old facts. The philosophical, political, national and linguistic problems faced by the government and scientific processes in the twentieth century are described in connection with various aspects of the life of Soviet and post-Soviet society, primarily with language policy. The appeal to the history of the philosophy of language in Russia is intended to help realize the internal logic and continuity of the development of the modern linguistic political culture of the country.

In Islamic teachings, the effort to carry out Islamic da'wah is an obligation, so that Islam is great because of the vital flow of da'wah. In this technological era, da'wah must be continued by exploiting technology. To complete this discussion, we have conducted a series of literature searches on many online publications, including book journals and websites. In order to obtain valid findings, a series of analyzes involving the tuning coding system and critical evaluation under phenomenology have been carried out. Finally, we believe that the findings include that all Muslims must become a preacher by having Islamic knowledge and skills in using technologically advanced da'wah facilities. Hopefully, this finding will complement the study of da'wah and the technological revolution in the future.

Subungual exostosis is typically a rare benign, acquired tumor of cartilaginous bone occurring on the medial surface of the distal hallux of toes or fingers. These are usually associated with secondary changes such as elevation of the nail plate, ulceration or subungual hyperkeratosis and hyperpigmentation. On histological examination, the lesion consists of mature bone at the base with proliferating fibrocartilaginous cap. A 14-year-old male presented with a solitary firm swelling gradually increasing in size for three months on the distal part of the right great toe. On physical examination, a firm, non-tender, non-mobile, whitish nodule was noted in the distal dorsomedial aspect of the right great toe distorting the adjacent nail. Radiographs demonstrated a dorsal bony outgrowth that was continuous with the distal phalanx. Excisional biopsy was done and on histopathological examination, a characteristic trabecular pattern of mature bone covered with a hyaline and fibrocartilaginous cap was seen. There was lack of true anaplasia, thereby confirming the diagnosis of subungual exostosis. There was no recurrence over six months. This topic is underrepresented in the orthopaedic literature, because many of the important clinical series have been published in journals from other branches of medicine i.e. mainly by dermatologists and pathologists. This reflects the fact that the condition is treated by many kinds of non-orthopaedic providers. We, as orthopaedic surgeons, must be careful while evaluating lesions of distal phalanges, always keeping in mind the possibility of subungual exostosis. Radiographs are helpful in diagnosis but confirmation can be done by histopathological examination. En bloc excision with minimal nail plate deformation can help prevent recurrence or deformity.

It also recognizes his love for the ever-changing new ideas, techniques, and use of materials to make his art vibrant and pulsating with emotions. Series after series, he has poignantly touched upon sensitive issues facing the mankind and also finds solace in mystic contemplation. Despite all odds, how this artist a lover of Nature, carved a niche for himself in the field of art, is an inspiration in itself. Currently, the impact factor of Sci-Tech journals is a widely recognized journal evaluation index that comprehensively reflects the quality and influence of the journals under evaluation. However, traditional journal evaluation methods based on statistical formulas, while relatively simple and fast, have certain limitations. They are not comprehensive enough and do not support the comparison between journals from different disciplines. In recent times, researchers have delved into using multiple suitable indicators for comprehensive journal evaluation, attempting to understand the role each indicator plays in the evaluation process, such as the rank sum ratio. Our paper presents a new dataset constructed from data from journals across various fields obtained from the China Wanfang Literature Platform. We endeavor to explore a series of novel journal evaluation methods based on machine learning, including deep learning models. With these 9 methods, we aim to determine the contribution of 17 journal evaluation indicators to the impact factor and identify important factors that can further enhance the quality and influence of Sci-Tech journals, which has great guiding significance for the future development of journals.

Over the past 30 years, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has shown great development. In the clinical setting the few approved molecules belong almost exclusively to the porphyrin family; but in the scientific field, in recent years many researchers have been interested in other families of photosensitizers, among which BODIPY has shown particular interest. BODIPY is the acronym for 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a, 4a-diaza-s-indacene, and is a family of molecules well-known for their properties in the field of imaging. In order for these molecules to be used in PDT, a structural modification is necessary which involves the introduction of heavy atoms, such as bromine and iodine, in the beta positions of the pyrrole ring; this change favors the intersystem crossing, and increases the 1O2 yield. This mini review focused on a series of structural changes made to BODIPYs to further increase 1O2 production and bioavailability by improving cell targeting or photoactivity efficiency.

ABSTRACT Fetal neurology is an evolving field in prenatal diagnosis and fetal medicine with great interest. The identification and diagnosis of brain damage prenatally has been a great challenge in obstetrics for many years and early identification of this damage would have implications on the perinatal management and is of great importance in cases of medical litigation. Defining normal and abnormal fetal neurological function in utero in order to better predict antenatally which fetuses are at risk for adverse neurological outcome still is under investigation. Several attempts have been made in the past to form a system that could detect fetuses with compromised central nervous system (CNS) function or brain impairement. Assessment of fetal behavior gave a promising opportunity to understand the hidden function of the developmental pathway of the fetal CNS. The assessment of normal neurobehavioral development by fourdimensional (4D) ultrasound gave the opportunity to investigate functional characteristics of the fetus that could predict neurological developmental dysfunction. These series of studies lead to the formation of Kurjak's antenatal neurodevelopmental test (KANET). KANET combines the assessment of fetal behavior, general movements and three out of four signs that have been postnatally considered as symptoms of possible neurodevelopmental impairment (neurological thumb, overlapping sutures and small head circumference). One stands back, perhaps rather astonished, and asks, “How did this come to be?” Though difficult and probably doomed to failure, the reflective exercise of retracing one’s steps may teach one a great deal about one’s taste as an artist.

ABSTRACT Ovarian torsion is an uncommon gynecological emergency that requires prompt recognition and treatment. Timely investigation and management can make the difference between ovarian loss and salvage, an outcome of great importance in the population of reproductive age females. Our case series is about clinical presentation and management approach of adnexal torsion in a tertiary care fertility center. Adnexal torsion was found mainly in the reproductive age during poststimulation postovulatory period in all cases. Ultrasound was the most commonly used imaging modality. Ovarian stimulation was the risk factor seen in all the patients. Diagnosis of adnexal torsion was mostly clinical. Laparoscopy was the preferred method of surgical intervention. ABSTRACT The detection of neurological impairment during fetal life has been a great challenge in perinatal medicine for many years. Evolution of ultrasound technology has allowed a more detailed examination of the fetal nervous system and earlier detection of central nervous system (CNS) abnormalities. However, overdiagnosis of CNS malformations or variations can be quite confusing from time to time, as we cannot always be sure how these may affect the fetus and as a result we cannot always advise adequately the parents of the affected fetuses about the prognosis. Defining normal and abnormal fetal neurological function in utero in order to better predict which fetuses are at risk for adverse neurological outcome could assist with the evaluation of the fetal outcome. Four-dimensional (4D) ultrasound has been used for the assessment of normal neurobehavioral development and has identified characteristics of the fetus that could predict neurological developmental dysfunction. Kurjak antenatal neurodevelopmental test (KANET) is a method that has been shown to offer great advantages for the assessment of fetal neurobehavior, and the findings of KANET have been verified in many studies with postnatal assessments. The victory of the China’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is of great significance to the whole Chinese nation because it is the first time in nearly a century that the Chinese people have won a complete victory against imperialism. A large number of translations of foreign war literature were published in anti-war periodicals. However, domestic scholars have not paid enough attention to the study of war literature translation in Anti-Japanese war periodicals, so the research results are relatively few. This paper researches the translation of war literature in three periodicals of the war period (The Anti-Japanese War Literature and Art, The Weekly Digest and Translation Series: A Comprehensive Translation of English Newspapers and Magazines), including a survey of the sources of the translations, the translators, the main ideas of the translations, the translation techniques and their significance. The study found that the translation introductions of war literature from these periodicals penetrated the readership of the public, enhanced the confidence of the nation in the victory the China’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, promoted the awakening of the whole nation, inspired the people of the nation to join in the Anti-Japanese War, and made a special contribution to the victory of the China’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

During the height of literary translation into Irish in the 1920s, 30s and 40s, I can only think of two Polish books that were translated into Irish. One of these is Henryk Sienkiewicz’s famous Quo Vadis?, which helped him secure the Nobel Prize for Literature, and which has been translated into numerous languages, and made into several films or series of films for television. It was translated into Irish by An tAthair, or Fr. Aindrias Ó Céileachair (1883–1954) in 1935. There is a long journey from Henryk Sienkiewicz’s travels into the mind of ancient Rome and turning a vicious and genocidal Latin culture into a more civilised Polish, to an English version of this great book by an Irish-American linguist who himself collected stories and tales in Irish, to a learned priest who used the ingenuity of his own people, and particularly the native knowledge of a great storyteller, to fashion one of the finest translations that has been done into modern Irish. I am not sure what Sienkiewicz would have made of it, but I am sure he would have been very pleased.

Dante’s Commedia provides a useful context or “frame” for a discussion of love in literature from the Middle Ages to the present day in the undergraduate seminar. Selected cantos of the Commedia can initiate an examination of love—lust, romantic love, caritas—and provide ways to analyze depictions of love by important authors. For example, Inferno Cantos I and III introduce the concept of the “journey”—Dante’s through the three realms of the afterlife, and our “journey” through a series of texts to be read over one semester. Dante’s education in Inferno constitutes an understanding of sin and of hell as the farthest place from God and His love. Moreover, in Canto I of Paradiso, Dante reiterates that God and His love can be found throughout creation “in some places more and in others less” (I: 3), and he concludes his poem with a vision of God and of the entire universe as moved by His love. Six great authors—Francis of Assisi, Vittoria Colonna, William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Flannery O’Connor, and Gabriel García Márquez—articulate in their own words this very human experience of love, of loving something or loving someone. In the process, they illuminate both Dante’s experience in the afterlife and ours in the modern world.

These artistic productions would be created from the primordial experience of the artist whose nature would be expressed through mythological figures that would function unconsciously and that would help us discover other parts of our psyche where certain theologies would operate, which would demonstrate that these symbolic representations would have concomitances with the manifestations of human spiritual activity studied in ethnological research. In this article we will see which are these archetypes that emerged from the depths of the psyche through children’s artistic activity, proving how these images would have a great influence on our life since they would constitute symbols of transformation that would harmonize our consciousness.

A picture of the Motor Behavior research in Brazil from the past to the present time is described in this first edition of the Brazilian Journal of Motor Behavior (BJMB). This work provides a brief history of a series of scientific events of Motor Behavior in the country. The great success of these events every two years since 1998 solidified the foundation of The Brazilian Society of Motor Behavior in 2004. In the present work, some data are shown to illustrate a growing interest in the motor behavior study by a number of researchers from different fields. Furthermore, a substantial growing regarding to the number of doctoral degrees in the motor behavior area of study and the number of articles published in international and national journals are shown. The Brazilian Society of Motor Behavior will certainly play a role in the development of the motor behavior field by gathering researchers spread all over the country, promoting debates of all sorts and stimulating interactions of research groups. The BJMB as a vehicle of communication has great potential for the insertion of the society to the international community.

The dissemination of knowledge concerning psychological problems, practices, and perspectives is often within selective journals requiring a great deal of financial investment or psychological services, which has historically been saddled with cultural incompetence, medical abuse, and subsequent stigma from Black Americans. To combat the confines of information existing only within the ivory tower, two Black psychologists developed a venture to better describe and provide psychoeducation to Black populations via an online edutainment platform. This article describes the development, implementation, and application of the series, titled Our Mental Health Minute, which seeks to reduce stigma, provide relevant information and resources, and increase mental health literacy through educational entertainment. Discussion includes a call to practitioners and researchers to consider creative ways to provide content to populations who are likely to be less able to access mental health materials and services.

In the analyses for body identification based on visual recordings, differences in the analyzed material may be encountered. The evidence, as opposed to comparative material, usually contains images in which the eyes are closed. The aim of the study was to establish whether it is possible to perform the proper anthroposcopic classification of eye surroundings in such conditions. The study was conducted in a group of 98 subjects. It involved taking a series of photographs (with head positioning in the Frankfurt plane) of the subjects with eyes open and closed, with a possibly natural and unforced manner of closing the eyes. Subsequently, classification of the surroundings of open and closed eyes was performed to reveal any correlations detectable in the images. The evaluation was based on the appropriate sets (montage) of pictures. It was demonstrated that in certain cases, the proper anthroposcopic classification of selected elements of the surroundings of a closed eye is possible. However, usually such an assessment is very difficult and should be approached with great care and a margin of probability.

In the hilly Balkans, a folk proverb has been circulating for a long time, „It is most difficult to be a prophet in one‘s own village“, which reflects the age-old mistrust of the population towards new ideas. This is not surprising in the least, because since the written history of the peoples of the Balkans has existed, a continuous series of conquerors and local rulers who subjugated the common folks and imposed their world view can be traced. Nevertheless, from time to time, people with great strength appear who not only break the shackles imposed by the powerful, but through their actions find a way to the souls of their compatriots and gain their unreserved trust. One of such spontaneous creators is professor Izet Mašić, who achieved a miracle of medical publishing in his Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina and traced the path of medical science. There may be thousands of medical journals in the world, more or less reputable, and researchers from the Balkans can publish their work in them, but only domestic medical journals can initiate and direct domestic medical research, and educate young researchers in the right way. Professor Mašić made it possible for authors from Bosnia and Herzegovina and other Balkan countries to present their results to the world and receive an incentive from impartial experts to continue their work and progress more and more by editing and publishing three domestic journals at once, which are visible in the most important world bases,. The progress in research then translated into improving medical practice and health care of the population. The following details from Professor Mašić‘s biography tell us how this miracle happened. This year, academician Izet Mašić, Editor-in-Chief of a few biomedical journals, including Acta Informatica Medica journal, celebrates his 70th birthday and also 45 years of his academic and scientific work.

The disciplinary scope is broad, encompassing scholarship from demography, economics, psychology, public health, and sociology. A key substantive focus is identifying the social, economic, and cultural contexts that shape aging experiences worldwide. In the coming decade, social gerontology research is poised to present many opportunities for cross-national and cross-cultural scholarship – driven in part by the proliferation of large parallel data sets from many nations in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. I will discuss the role that peer-reviewed cross-national scholarship can play in disseminating knowledge that informs gerontological research, policy, and practice internationally. I will also identify under-researched areas that will be of great interest to scholars in the coming decade, including LGBT older adults, aging in the Global South, reconfigured families, and centenarians.

The ethnic etiquette of the Yakuts demonstrates traditional culture, worldviews, and ritual and mythological practices. The historical and anthropological approach used in this study allowed us to consider motives and strategies of the behavior, customs and rituals in space and time. The study of folklore and ethnographic and linguistic materials made it possible to identify and analyze responses of the behavioral strategies that expand the boundaries of the developed space (travel customs and rituals), eliminate the “otherness” of a guest (an etiquette), and provide for communications between the man and the deities/spirits (a ritual). For the first time, archival and field materials on the guest and travel etiquette are introduced into scientific discourse. The aim of the study is to conduct a historical and cognitive analysis of the travel and guest etiquettes, which begin with overcoming the developed space — the dwelling place. As the result, we have revealed that the travel etiquette is primarily aimed at ensuring that the traveler returns home without encountering any obstacles in his journey. To achieve that, they used words-taboos and made a sacrifice to the spirit of the fire and to the spirit of the road. The analysis of special travel terms has shown that the main guardian of the traveler is his horse, while the behavioral code serves as an assurance of a successful journey. Compliance with pre-travel and travel taboos and rules primarily contributed to a safe return of the traveler. It has been found that the status of the traveler is transformed when he overcomes a “cultural barrier” — the fence, enters the developed space, and becomes a guest. The guest etiquette mainly defines behavior of the hosts, since the arrival of the guest, his welcoming and parting with him strengthened their life values, stability, and prosperity. The guest was considered to be a messenger of an alien world, so that the first series of the ritual actions was aimed at removing the “otherness” of the guest, the second series was aimed at including the guest in the home space, and the third series was aimed at seeing off the guest. Nowadays, respectful welcoming of a guest is also of a great importance, and the metaphor "the Yakut’s hospitality" has still not lost its significance.

Purpose Diversity is one of the main characteristics of modern societies. To be teachers and trainers, it is necessary to use all the tools to respond to students with diversified needs. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to review the scientific production in Web of Science (WOS) and SCOPUS of 1996-2019 on the application of Virtual reality in people with Autism Spectrum Disoders (ASD) for the improvement of social skills. Design/methodology/approach For this purpose, two databases have been used: The Web of Science (WOS) and SCOPUS from the advanced search tab. After applying the search terms, 267 documents were obtained which were analysed according to a series of indicators. Findings The results indicate that the period 2016-2019 was the most productive and that SCOPUS has a focus on conferences and WOS is intended for journals. Furthermore, in SCOPUS, there are journals with higher quartiles (Q1) than in WOS. The study shows the great importance of virtual reality in people with ASD and its recent dissemination. Originality/value Currently, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, there are no studies on the use of virtual reality in people with ASD using bibliometric indicators. The study allows us to know which databases publish higher quality research. Likewise, information can be obtained about the most productive centres and the most important authors on the subject.

This paper seeks to add to the discussion surrounding young adults’ relationship and engagement with learning technologies, exploring whether they naturally engage with these technologies when the use of them is either compulsory or optional.We discuss our findings in relation to whether young people are truly engaging with technologies or whether they are simply passive consumers of some technology, and unenthusiastic innovators in others. Participants in the UK (N=6, Mean Age 20.66, undergraduate psychology students) provided their responses to a short series of face–to–face interviews using open–ended questions designed to elicit a critical exploration of their learning experience with particular emphasis on learning technologies. Participants in the US (N=26, Mean Age=22.38, pre–service teachers) responded to a series of short open–ended questions submitted online using asynchronous video journals uploaded to a private classroom space on YouTube.We found that young people are generally unenthusiastic users of learning technologies, which has significant implications for the educational sector in the UK and the US, as many of our participants are pre-service teachers. At a time when great emphasis is being placed on increasing student access to technologies in the classroom to enrich the learning experience, and to offer greater opportunity for understanding and discovery of information, trainee educators seem reluctant to engage with many types of educational technologies.

William Hung’s academic activities mainly include the establishment of professional journals and the formation of an academic community dominated by teachers and students of Yenching University; Presided over the establishment of Harvard-Yenching Society “Introduction and compilation Office”, compiling series of Chinese studies introduction; Compiling the Format of Research Papers and standardizing the writing of academic papers. According to the standards of modern western universities, he set up disciplines and cultivated talents in a planned way, and vigorously carried out library construction. If the 1707 Act of Union removed the immaterial legal and political border between England and Scotland by merging them into the single kingdom of Great Britain, it could not erase the almost impassable natural boundary dividing the twin sisters. This tangible geographical barrier remained as a magnificent reminder of a former separation, thus questioning the disappearance of the national frontier. The confrontation between abstract and concrete boundaries, which is at stake in historical Scotland, is staged in Walter Scott’s The Heart of Midlothian set a few decades after the Union. The heroine’s physical journey across the Anglo-Scottish border gradually takes on a more symbolic significance as she trudges through the marches to redeem her sinful sister. In studying the novel, I will analyse the series of embedded tangible boundaries present on the British territories and show how they are constantly crossed by the protagonists. This physical crossing of concrete borders often goes with the mental crossing of abstract barriers. Overstepping a physical boundary can lead to transgressing moral and societal limits as it is exemplified with the Scottish Borders, a den of iniquity and unlawful transactions. External borders can thus embody more internal boundaries and serve to map territories of the mind.

This study focuses on a description of the Boxer Rebellion in Beijing, in the first months of 1901, written by E. S. Vraz during his second journey to China. Enrique Stanko Vraz (1860–1932) was a Czech naturalist and explorer, renowned for his travels to Africa, Latin America, and Asia, which he depicted in a series of books addressed to a broader public. His travelogue on Beijing during the Boxer Rebellion is particularly engaging, since it shows the country in the midst of great turmoil and chaos, just after the uprising had reached its climax. It is also extremely interesting from the ethnographical and anthropological perspective, because Vraz not only comments on the activities of the allied forces in China, but he also describes the Chinese people, their customs, Chinese culture and society, and in doing so develops an interpretation of the kingdom, governed by the dichotomy between ‘civilization’ and modernity, on one hand, and ‘barbarism’ and obscurantism, on the other. Vraz’s narrative therefore seems to be inexorably bound to an ethnocentric paradigm, so characteristic of travel writing at the beginning of the 20th century. I argue, however, that this statement is oversimplifying, and that Vraz’s text is self-aware of these antagonisms and therefore defies any straightforward reading.

While the lack of information on Shakespeare’s life poses a great challenge to biographers in their pursuit of compiling the poet’s definitive Life, it is the early years of his career–the so-called ‘Lost Years’–which represent perhaps the biggest mystery to historians. Consequently, biographies fill in this gap by relying mostly on speculation and theories rather than hard facts. For this reason, this period seems to be a favourite for fictional representations of William Shakespeare’s life, offering the most space for creativity for the authors. Craig Pearce’s TV series Will (2017) specifically brings to the public a version of Shakespeare’s ‘Lost Years.’ Thus, the gaps in the poet’s life are filled in by setting his story in a rather dystopian England and by incorporating anachronistic elements in the historical narrative. For instance, Will’s arrival in London and his struggles are juxtaposed with a soundtrack that is comprised of modern rock songs, while the characters’ costumes, make-up, colourful hair and tattoos are reminiscent of popular culture films such as The Hunger Games or Star Wars, as well as of the punk rock culture of the 1970s. This way, the young man’s journey to fame is associated with the modern-day equivalent of a rock star’s ascension.

The purpose of this research is to describe the application of the Inquiry Learning model in integrated thematic learning based on several previous studies, which will be observed by how much is the improvements of student learning outcomes after the learning model is applied. This research is motived by the low student learning outcomes of the students in elementary school because of many teachers that still not applied an innovative learning model and the application of integrated thematic learning characteristics that are still not visible, teachers are still using the conventional teacher-centered learning models so that students are less active in the learning process. The inquiry learning model is the learning series activities which is focused on the critical thinking and finding the answer by itself from the concerned problems. The method of this research is the study of literature or library research. By collecting 15 accredited journals that are relevant to the topic, then analyzed how great is the improvement of student learning outcomes after the Inquiry Learning method is applied. From the results of data analysis shows that the Inquiry Learning model is effective in improving student learning outcomes.

Background:
In the past ten years or so, the publication of research journal articles has been increasing and growing. The development is even more significant when the Higher Education in Circular Letter No.152 / E / T / 2012 requires article writing for students of all levels as one of the graduation requirements. The publication of articles, especially in English-language journals, is a challenge for Indonesian authors to be able to produce scientific papers that not only meet scientific rules but also linguistic rules in English.
Methodology:
This study aims to see the function of rhetorical moves in English journal articles published in SINTA-accredited journals. The part of the article to be studied is focused on the Introduction which has the main role of providing general information about the research background. The rhetoric function of this article will show a series of texts that have a specific function in the Introduction. The sample of this study was taken from articles in the SINTA-accredited journals level 2 and written in English written by authors of non-English-language disciplines. Two articles were randomly selected from each journal so in total it amounted to 16 articles.
Findings:
This study looks at what rhetorical functions were used, and the textuality of the rhetorical functions used in the Introduction to articles written and published in SINTA-accredited journals level 2. “Indicating the Structure of the Research Paper” and “Announcing Principal Findings” were the least two rhetorical functions stated by the authors in the Introduction section. Two articles in this study fulfil the textuality components but the rests fail to fulfill the textuality components.
Conclusion:
Writing journal articles in English is a great challenge for Authors with an English as a foreign language (EFL) background. Language proficiency, academic language mastery, academic writing convention and mechanics awareness which include rhetorical functions and textuality might distract their content writing competence.
Originality:
Many studies searched the rhetorical functions of postgraduate theses, journal articles, and thesis abstracts in English written by non-native English; however, research on journal articles by Indonesian journal publishers is limited.

This paper examines the role of traditional physical archives within Translation Studies research, investigating the contribution that such resources can add, providing information that otherwise would not be available in existing scholarly volumes, academic journals and digital material. The question is illustrated with the specific case of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby (1925) and its first two translations into Italian, carried out respectively in 1936 by Cesare Giardini and 1950 by Fernanda Pivano. Both translations were published by Mondadori, Italy’s largest publishing company, as part of two different series, I romanzi della palma and the later Medusa collection.Adopting a microhistory approach, the study of these translations, through the resource-rich archives of the Fondazione Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori in Milan, can shed light on a number of issues that the text alone cannot provide: documentation, including the other books published in the same series, highlights the target audience that Mondadori were seeking to address; the paratextual elements of the books themselves are revealing of the prominence (or otherwise) of American literature in general and Fitzgerald in particular within the Italian literary polysystem at the time of their publication; in the case of the first translation, readers’ reports on the novel indicate how the censors of the Fascist regime might receive the somewhat racy themes contained in the book, while, in the case of the 1950 translation, correspondence between the publisher, literary agents and the translator herself highlight the many issues surrounding the ultimate publication of the volume.

The "migrant crisis" has received a large media coverage addressing the ways to limit refugees' settlement in European countries. Although an increasing number of asylum seekers are or will be admitted in the different states, little attention is devoted to the receiving conditions in the countries of settlement. Yet, a great amount of the incomers involve families with children, so that the schooling issue should be regarded as a major challenge for the receiving countries. Indeed, according to the largely ratified Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), the right to education has to be implemented irrespective of the family legal status. In this paper, we will show that systematically evaluating these pupils' resources and needs in their mother tongue should be regarded as a key for their adequate orientation into the new school system. We will report situations ranging from illiteracy to unexpected skills acquired through informal schooling or makeshift means. Moreover, on the basis of a series of interviews with the families of newly arrived pupils, we will highlight the schooling impairments these children have experienced in their home country or during their fleeing journey. We will contend that identifying these pupils' needs and resources is a decisive tool against their undiscriminated relegation into special structures, as a result either of stereotyping or of teachers' feeling of helplessness -which are often intertwined.

The journey undertaken by the protagonist Assunta Patanè in Mario Monicelli's film The Girl with the Gun is far more than a mere spatial displacement fired by a desire for revenge, but it gradually takes the form of an itinerary of an individualistic and cultural nature that is eventually to overturn the stereotypes of Assunta's native Sicilian community, thus enabling her to embrace modernity and, in particular, emancipation, both of which are totally alien to her at the opening of the film. The metamorphosis of the protagonist passes through various phases that will lead her towards self-awareness and self-determination, following her arrival in Great Britain with the intent to take revenge on Vincenzo, the man responsible for her dishonour. The polyhedral use of language (Sicilian dialect, Standard Italian and English), the impact of a new society and culture, not to mention the series of relations, above all with male characters so different from each other (Vincenzo, John, Frank and Doctor Osborne), will mark Assunta's gradual path towards maturity. In an atmosphere initially overhung with tragedy but gradually transformed through comedy and humour, the Sicilian woman will succeed in freeing herself from the prejudices and customs of an archaic world, so as to affirm her presence and personal identity, now liberated from the simplistic male–female binary and from the respective roles decreed since antiquity.
