Small and marginal farmers always face problem in production and income in absence of economy of scale. Farmers and governments always tried to get the advantage of collectiveness to get the both ended advantage of economy of scale. Cooperative societies of farmers were one of the mitigation techniques. SHG, JLG, farmers club etc are the efforts to achieve the economy of scale in production and marketing but distress of the farmers proved all efforts incomplete. In the year 2002 a special structure comprising the characteristics of cooperatives society and company was designed for original farm producers in the form and style of FPOs (farm producer organizations) managed and run by Cluster based Business organization (CBBO).The ownership of the PO (Producer organization) is with its members it is an organization of the producers for the producers. FPO also known as farmers company (FPC) is an legal entity by primary producers. An FPO can be a producer company, a cooperative society or any other form. The small farmers Agri-business consortium (SFAC) developed by Government of India to increase the Income of small and marginal farmers. Central Sector Scheme of “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs)” is the attempt to accelerate the formation of FPO, Govt. assistance at all level of formation and operation of FPO, hand holding support for five year budget allocation GOI budget 2020-21. The study will evaluate and asses the scheme and role to increase the farm producers’ income by way of FPO on account of budget allocation and implementation of central scheme.

AbstractThis article examines the effects of electoral systems on issue ownership. This study argues that electoral rules significantly affect issue ownership because they prompt candidates to adopt different types of electoral campaigns. Compared to the single non-transferable vote (SNTV) system, the mixed-member majoritarian (MMM) system prods candidates to change the pattern of electoral campaigns from candidate-centred to issue-centred competition. In particular, partisan issue effects are more effective in gaining votes under the MMM. To support the argument, I find evidence from content analyses of party manifestos and multinomial logistic regression models of electoral surveys between the pre-reform and post-reform elections in Japan.

This study investigates whether government participation in firm ownership leads to better firm performance of publicly listed companies in Malaysia. The sample covers 257 companies listed on the Bursa Malaysia from 1997 to 2009. Multiple regression models with balanced panel data are used to examine the impact of government ownership (GOVN) on firm performance. We find a negative relationship between GOVN and firm performance, a finding that supports the negative public perception of government-linked companies (GLCs) in Malaysia. We conclude that government ownership is not an effective tool for improvement of firm performance in Malaysia.

Uncontrolled prediabetes can develop into Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The incidence of T2DM among adults in Pontianak, Indonesia was reported remarkably high. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the risk factors for prediabetes in adults living in urban areas of Pontianak, Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 5 subdistricts of Pontianak. A total of 506 adults underwent screening to obtain subjects with fasting blood glucose (FBS) of ≤124 mg/dL and aged >30 years. Blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) were measured. Interview using a structured questionnaire were performed to obtain data on predictor variables (age, sex, education, income, health insurance, tobacco use, history of hypertension, gout, high cholesterol level, frequency of exercise per week, and diabetic education). The prevalence of prediabetes among subjects was significantly high (76.4%). Subjects were predominantly above 40 years, female, had low income, low education level, and had health insurance. About a third of the subjects had a history of hypertension, gout, and high cholesterol level, respectively. The exercise frequency was mostly less than 3 times/week, and the BMI was mainly classified as overweight and obese. The result of spearman’s rho correlation showed that age (r = 0.146; p = 0.022 ) and BMI (r = 0.130; p = 0.041 ) significantly correlated with prediabetes incidence. Moreover, the chi-square analysis demonstrated that health insurance ownership (OR = 4.473; 95% CI 1.824–10.972; p ≤ 0.001 ), history of hypertension (OR = 3.096; 95% CI 1.542–6.218; p = 0.001 ), and history of gout (OR = 2.419; 95% CI 1.148–5.099; p = 0.018 ), were associated with prediabetes incidence. For all these significant risk predictors except BMI, the significant associations were found only among female subjects after specific sex analysis. Moreover, multivariate logistic regression showed that health insurance ownerships (OR = 5.956; 95% CI 2.256–15.661; p ≤ 0.001 ) and history of hypertension (OR = 3.257; 95% CI 1.451–7.311; p = 0.004 ), and systolic blood pressure (OR = 2.141; 95% CI 1.092–4.196; p = 0.027 ) were the risk factors for prediabetes. It is concluded that the prevalence of prediabetes is probably high especially among urban people in Pontianak, Indonesia. Health insurance ownership and hypertension may have an important role in prediabetes management. The risk factors might be different between male and female.

AbstractNiche parties often originate in social movements, yet the latter’s role in shaping these parties has received scant attention. I argue that movement roots can help niche parties achieve both vote- and policy-seeking goals by keeping core issues salient, bolstering issue ownership and securing allies in civil society. Employing interviews with movement, as well as Green and Pirate party leaders in Sweden and Germany, I identify three mechanisms (electoral pressure, grassroots linkage, elite orientation) that lead to programmatic alignment. This article extends an emerging research agenda that highlights how social movements shape party politics and offers evidence that niche party–movement interactions open new avenues for political representation counterbalancing mainstream parties’ increasing detachment from civil society.

Before 1991, Australia enforced strict limits on foreign ownership of licensed broadcasters and also limited foreign ownership of newspaper publishers. In the early 1990s, however, a pair of Canadian entrepreneurs succeeded in first raising and then circumventing those limits. Conrad Black bought 15 per cent of the Fairfax newspaper chain in 1992, and shortly before the ensuing national election lobbied to increase his stake to 25 per cent. In his 1993 autobiography, Black described backroom political dealings that resulted in a Senate inquiry. The Australian Broadcasting Authority soon began an investigation into another Canadian challenging the country's foreign media ownership limits. Israel ‘Izzy’ Asper, a former tax lawyer, found a way to legally purchase 57.5 per cent of Network Ten in 1992 by holding 42.5 per cent in the form of non-voting debentures. The ABA absolved his CanWest Global Communications of controlling Network Ten in 1995. Non-voting shares were outlawed in 1997, but CanWest was allowed to retain its debentures. The inquiries into Canadian purchases contributed to a decade-long process of re-evaluating media ownership limits that resulted in restrictions on foreign ownership being eliminated in 2006.

This study aims to examine the effect of ownership concentration and type of share ownership on the financial performance of Islamic banks in Indonesia. The sample used is Islamic commercial banks recorded in Indonesian Islamic Banking Statistics, with a study period of five years, from 2014 to 2018. Regression testing involves financial performance (ROA, ROE, and NPL) as the dependent variable; ownership concentration (K) and ownership type (INST, GOV, FAM and FOR) as independent variables; and some control variables, such as CAR, size, leverage, and company age. Data collected shows that all of Islamic Banks in Indonesia have concentrated ownership, therefore that factor should be omitted from independent variables. Based on hypothesis testing, we find that financial performance of Islamic Banks in Indonesia are not influenced by it’s ownership type.

The car is a symbolic presence at the heart of the everyday experience of multi-ethnic coexistence. Exploring the potential significance of car ownership among members of the Pakistani/Muslim population in Bradford has an inherent interest and virtue, but more acutely, it can shed light on social relations where class, gender, religion and ethnicity intersect. The ‘young Asian/White/Muslim/Black male driver’ has acquired a certain meaning and reputation which has largely negative associations across Britain. However, once stereotypes such as the ones at play in the diary entry above are unpicked and engaged with, meaning becomes more nuanced and complicated, but no less vital. Indeed, the research upon which this paper is based suggests that car culture offers insights: first, into how some aspects of broader ‘British Muslim’ identity are framed; and second, that often negative, exoticized and racialized aspects of identity can be detuned and thus made less potent markers of racialized thinking.

This chapter explores the extent to which local commercial banks in Lebanon are linked to the country’s political class, and how this impacts their efficiency. By compiling detailed ownership and political affiliation data on the 20 major commercial banks in 2014, the chapter shows that in 2014, as many as 18 of the 20 banks had major shareholders linked to political elites, who together controlled 43Â?percent of the assets of the sector. “Crony capital” within the banking sector is also shown to be associated with a lower quality of banks’ loans, and with a higher exposure to public debt.

This chapter examines the characteristic concerns and claims of the so-called “Romantic” theorists of work and ownership, arguing that what they have in common is best highlighted by a contrast with instrumental and utilitarian accounts of these matters. The chapter's main assertion is not that there were particular conclusions about the gains and losses of work, or about the legitimacy of private ownership, to which Romantics came and instrumentalists did not, but that the route by which they got to their conclusions was very different. Utilitarianism does not find the possessory relationship intrinsically interesting, either as a matter of morality or as a matter of social psychology. Here lies the heart of the contrast with Romanticism. The chapter considers Immanuel Kant's views on property rights and compares them with those of G.W.F. Hegel, Karl Marx, and Thomas Carlyle.

This chapter shifts the focus from the previous chapter on the work of traders at Dordoi bazaar to that of the main owner. The chapter discusses how, in light of some in society who viewed bazaar owners as oligarchs, he actively sought to reframe his role as a bazaar founder, job provider, and guarantor of honorable work in an otherwise corrupt society. He described his own approach as “business diplomacy,” and collaborated with the trade union, got elected to political office, and decided when to engage in protest (and when not to). Instead of perspectives that view him as a predatory, stationary bandit, the chapter argues instead that we must take seriously how he sought to survive and adapt in an inauspicious political context by building relationships within the state and among different businesses, societal groups, and constituents to increase possibilities for action in challenging situations.

The objective of the study was to explore IK used to control ticks and associated diseases. A structured questionnaire (n = 250) were administered randomly to collect IK amongst the households active in goat production. Challenges on the use of ethno veterinary plants were also captured using focus group discussions. There was an association between goat ownership and gender, males used IK (70%) more than their female counterparts. Ticks were ranked as the major ectoparasites affecting goat productivity. Amongst ticks, Amblyomma species were ranked as the most important. Cissus quadrangularis. Lin (32%), Gomphocarpus physocarpus E. Mey (27%) and Portulaca pilosa L. (25%) plants had the highest FL values for their use to control ticks. Four plant species were identified to treat goats against tick-borne diseases. Pittosporum viridiflorum Sims and Boophane disticha were reported to treat heart water. Aloe marlothii A.Berger and Erythrophleum africanum (Benth.) Harms plants cure anaplasmosis. Livestock farmers hold substantial knowledge of ethno-veterinary plants to control ticks and their associated challenges. More research is required to affirm the acaricidal properties claimed to promote and optimize sustainable use of these medicinal plants.

Her husband, it seems, could not sleep for thinking of all the money he was losing through not having an opera of Verdi’s to publish. ‘When we are in bed,’ she told the composer, ‘he does nothing but sigh and groan all night.’* At the time Verdi got rid of her by a coarse joke. This chapter discusses the nature of homelessness from rough sleeping to lack of secure accommodation. It examines changing government policy over the past fifty years. Governments have got out of the business of building and renting low-cost houses, ended rent control, and pursued fiscal policies encouraging not only home ownership and second homes, but a new rentier class. Tax incentives encourage buying to let or even leaving property empty for investment purposes. This pushes up house prices, creating a generation who have little prospect of ever owning their own home. It has also created insecure and transient housing for the poor and a tranche of rough sleepers with no roof over their heads. The chapter investigates this process in the USA, UK and Australia, contrasting with a case study of how Finland has successfully dealt with its homelessness problem.

The transportation industry is the second largest energy consumption sector in China and has become the main contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants. To support the low-carbon development of the automobile industry, China has taken measures to replace traditional fuel vehicles with new energy vehicles. The reduction of carbon dioxide emission of new energy vehicles model is estimated in this paper, in which the driving situation, per 100km energy consumption, proportion of clean energy, gasoline emission factor and national average grid emission factor, etc. are all considered. The annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emission of a new energy vehicle is 2.24 tons and the annual emission reduction is 1.09 tons in 2020. Through correlation analysis, it is concluded that there is a high negative correlation between the average emission factor of the power grid and the proportion of green energy, and the correlation coefficient is −0.9662. The ownership of civil vehicles will be 457.16 million vehicles in 2030, and it will get to its peak in 2050. Besides, the peak of CO2 emission of civil vehicles will be got in 2030. Moreover, new energy vehicles charring new energy electricity is an effective way for the automotive industry to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutralization.

Abstract Although Hammurabi (1792–1750) is renowned as a lawgiver, he was not the first. Hammurabi’s first years were relatively uneventful; Babylon was not especially powerful. Elam was the great power of the time. Hammurabi began building his empire in response to aggression from Larsa and Elam, eventually expanding south to the Gulf, and north as far as Mari. Two of Hammurabi’s administrators in Larsa are profiled: Sin-idinnam, governor general, and Shamash-hazir, overseer of fields. Both wrote and received letters from Hammurabi, revealing their responsibilities. These included, for Sin-idinnam, collecting taxes and issuing orders to other governors, and, for Shamash-hazir, allocating subsistence fields, determining field ownership, arbitrating land disputes, organizing maintenance of the irrigation system, supervising the shearing of palace sheep, and keeping records. The subsistence land provided to a soldier was his ilkum; in exchange he did military service and corvée labor, and paid taxes. Shepherds who cared for the royal herds also received subsistence land. They had to account for every sheep and goat, and the products from them. Hammurabi’s laws provide insights into daily life of the time, but don’t cover all crimes, and often don’t specify how the death penalty would be carried out. Court cases show that monetary fines were common and death penalties uncommon. Another profile reconstructs the life and responsibilities of an ilkum soldier named Mashum, based on Hammurabi’s laws and Shamash-hazir’s letters. Hammurabi’s laws provide details about many aspects of Old Babylonian life, including the structure of social classes.

Commodification has stemmed from capitalism – a practice to accumulate wealth, while patriarchy was visible in most of the civilizations of the world, Capitalism dignified patriarchy through its distinction between genders and assigning gender roles, as the word ‘gentlemen’ was starting to be connoted with political and economic powerful sections thus the marketplace changed its approach, it was removing humane or instinct value from all elements of nature and using the same for accumulation of profit, Women were perceived to be vexed and pleasurable characters whose base desire should be controlled and those for who cannot be controlled will be treated as a prostitute, a marginalized and secluded section of society, their services will be bought in exchange of money , Though History has been witness how myths and folklores objectified women , in the capitalist era the commodification of women got aggravated especially through the popularization of various forms of media , such as television , VCRs, and billboard advertisements , In the contemporary society when social media is not only means of entertainment and information but a key employment tool has led to various dimension of female commodification and the restrictions posed by social media is not as strict as in other forms of media and true meaning of commodification of women’ bodies can often be mistaken as ownership over one’s body and embracing true self.
