The number of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) in operation is increasing in Indonesia. GIS failure requires expensive costs andextensive blackouts. Asset reliability management such as SF6 is needed to ensure GIS performance. Several studies have tested thequality of SF6 gas to assess the feasibility and operation of the GIS. However, a complete GIS feasibility study based on SF6 gas qualityparameters has not found. In this study, a condition assessment of the GISTET Kembangan 500/150 kV was carried out based on applicableinternational standards. There is an interesting phenomenon in the form of dew point anomaly and moisture content in severalcompartments, indicating that the gas is moist. The results of this study indicate the operational feasibility of the GISTET Kembangan500/150 kV , the effect of high humidity on GIS operations, and maintenance recommendations.

High voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) is prone to metallic particles. The particle void can reduce the dielectric strength of the insulation material of SF6 gas. This paper discusses the developed particle detector for GIS using a new approach by using image processing to reduce flashover phenomena occurring on energized GIS. The particle detector consists of borescope, laptop and a detection program. The program was coded using MATLAB using image processing algorithm. The in-lab test was conducted on the simulated GIS to see the effectiveness of the particle detector to detect small particles inside the narrow GIS enclosure. In real world application, the borescope will be inserted through GIS access hole before filling the enclosure with SF6 gas. This new approach is proposed to be conducted during the erection and commissioning of new GIS. This new approach looks promising because it can reduce flashover phenomena caused by existence of metallic particle and also reduces Greenhouse gas emission to the air.

In the present paper, the electromagnetic coupled heat transfer and ultrasonic propagation in a 252 kV three-phase GIS busbar chamber were numerically studied by using the finite element method. The electromagnetic loss and distributions of SF6 gas velocity, temperature, and breakdown margin in the GIS busbar chamber were carefully analyzed, and the influences of SF6 gas velocity and temperature variations on ultrasonic propagation performances in the GIS chamber were discussed in detail. It is found that the SF6 gas breakdown margin in the GIS busbar chamber is mainly affected by the electric field intensity. When I = 3300 A and U = 1050 kV, the minimum SF6 gas breakdown margin in the GIS busbar chamber is 7.98 kV/mm, which is located at top of busbar conductor A, where the thermal breakdown risk is relatively high. Furthermore, it is noted that, when natural convection in GIS busbar chamber is weak, the influences of SF6 gas velocity and temperature variations on sound propagation would be insignificant. For this case, when acoustic propagation simulation is performed, the SF6 gas would be assumed to be stationary and its temperature would be set to the average gas temperature of natural convection in the GIS chamber, which would be beneficial to reduce the computational time and maintain the simulation accuracy as well.

Under working conditions, the conductive rods in the GIS flow through the power frequency alternating current. Due to the coupling effect of the magnetic field and electric field between the metal aluminum shell and the conductive rod, induced eddy currents are generated in the metal shell of the GIS. The heat generated by the current heating effect of the GIS conductive rod and the eddy current loss of the metal casing will cause the temperature rise of GIS equipment. Due to the limited volume, the heat dissipation capacity of GIS is poor. Excessive temperature rise will accelerate the insulation aging of GIS equipment, and even damage its insulation, which will affect safe operation. In order to obtain the temperature change law of GIS, related influencing factors such as eddy current loss, skin effect, proximity effect, convective heat transfer of SF6 gas, and gravity of SF6 gas are comprehensively considered. The finite element analysis is used to research and discuss GIS magnetic field distribution, eddy current, temperature distribution and SF6 gas velocity. The initial value of the temperature of each part is set to 293.15 K (20 °C), and the temperature in the GIS is calculated to gradually decrease from the inside to the outside under the rated AC current of 3150 A. The temperature at the conductive rod position is the highest at 335.32 K, and the temperature at the housing position is the lowest at 294.65 K.

Gas insulated switchgears occupy an important position in the power system. But the partial discharge would occur because of insulation defect, PD will lead to the GIS insulation damage after a long time, and will lead to serious consequences without treatment in time, therefore, the PD detection is particularly important. PD is detected by its secondary physical phenomena, including the phenomena of sound, light, electromagnetic waves and gas decomposition products and so on. At present, many scholars in China and foreign countries have done a comprehensive study on insulation detection technology of GIS and have achieved a large number of results. The author do a detailed overview on the detection technical of GIS insulation state, including GIS platform and the simulation of typical insulation defectspartial discharge detection methods, SF6 alternative gas and pattern recognition. To evaluate the seismic performances of the ultra-high voltage (UHV) gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) bushings made by porcelain and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite materials, shaking table tests were conducted on the two full-scale GIS bushings. The dynamic characteristics and seismic responses of the two UHV GIS bushings were obtained. The experimental results indicated that the two UHV GIS bushings meet the seismic requirements in the corresponding standards. The supporting frame and bus canister amplify the seismic responses of the UHV GIS bushings. Under earthquakes, the GFRP composite UHV GIS bushing is safer than the porcelain bushing. In the seismic design of the electrical substation, the large seismic displacement of the GFRP composite UHV GIS bushings should be considered.

Abstract Objectives To examine the predictive validity of the Gout Activity Score (GAS), its correlation with the Gout Impact Scale (GIS) and their sensitivity to change. Methods Data from a clinical trial in which participants with one or more gout flares in the previous year were recruited from primary care and randomized to nurse-led or continuing usual care were used in this study. GAS and GIS were calculated as described, with higher scores indicating worse disease activity and quality of life, respectively. The correlation between GAS and GIS was examined using Spearman’s correlation. Standardized response means (SRMs) were calculated to assess sensitivity to change. The association between GAS at baseline and the number of flares in the next 12 months was evaluated using Poisson regression. Data analyses were performed using STATA version 14, with P-values <0.05 being statistically significant. Results There was low positive correlation between GAS and gout concern overall and unmet treatment need subscales of GIS (r = 0.34–0.45). Female sex associated independently with fewer gout flares, while increasing GAS, BMI and age associated independently with frequent flares. Of all the outcome measures examined, GAS was the most responsive to change (SRM 0.89 to −0.53). Of the GIS domains, the gout concern overall domain had the best sensitivity to change (SRM 1.06–0.01). Conclusion GAS is sensitive to change, has predictive validity and correlates with relevant domains of GIS such as gout concern overall. Additional independent validation of GAS is required before it can be adopted in clinical practice.

Gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is a crucial part of any electrical infrastructure. Overheating the conductor on the GIS busbar would reduce the effectiveness of the insulating gas and shorten the life of the device. We then maximize output by fine-tuning the busbar's rotation angle, central distance, and conductor thickness. Dependable electrical systems always include gas insulated transmission lines (GIL) and gas insulated switchgear (GIS). Because of their reduced total cost and greater efficiency in terms of both space use and power transmission, GILs are gradually replacing conventional overhead lines for long-distance, high-power transmission. The reliability of GIL performance and the ease with which designs can be optimized necessitates research into their power loss and temperature profiles. The study found that the maximum temperature and power loss variances were approximately 70% attributable to differences in conductor thickness. By employing the aforementioned combination method (A1, B5, C5), energy consumption and thermal load in the GIS can be reduced. The research also shows that SF6 gas retains its outstanding insulating capacity after undergoing structural optimization. The calculation of the gas breakdown margin demonstrates this. In conclusion, the results of this study contribute to the understanding of heat transmission in three-phase GIS busbars and their optimization and engineering. Examining the temperature field of 500kV GIS circuit breakers, it highlights the value of multi-physics field coupling simulations in improving the reliability and performance of power system components, especially GILs. This is done so that power system components are more reliable and run more efficiently. Optimal heat transmission and other design considerations for three-phase GIS busbars are the most important takeaways from this research.

This paper analyzes the effect of the presence of foreign particles on an equilateral arrangement of 3 phase gas insulated switchgear (GIS) insulation equipment. Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) that uses SF6 insulation, partial discharge will occur as the insulation ages and there are several other factors that affect the insulation. Partial Discharge needs to be detected to avoid failures that cause damage to equipment in theGIS. In this calculation, the electric field characteristics will be analyzed in 3-phase equilateral GIS by varying the location of the particles in the GIS tank. Particles are modeled to have a length of 5 mm and a thickness of 0.5 mm located in a 3 phase GIS equilateral arrangement with a tank diameter of 150 mm and a conductor diameter of 25 mm. The electric field calculations are reviewed at several points in the 3-phase equilateral GIS tank. The simulation and calculation of the electric field were calculated with FEM method software. The results of the calculations show that thereare differences in the characteristics of the electric field between normal GIS and GIS where foreign particles are present. The difference in these characteristics can be seen in the magnitude of the electric field, and the ratio of eccentricity from some point of view.

In order to study the influence of the extended conductive pole on the electrical performance of GIS cable terminal, the contact resistance of the extended conductive pole is measured. The measurement results show that the contact resistance meets the requirements of conductive flow. Through finite element simulation calculation of the influence of the extended conducting rod on the GIS terminal electric field distribution, it was found that the maximum field strength of the cable terminal of the extended conducting rod increased by 2 kv/mm, which was smaller than the breakdown field strength of sulfur hexafluoride gas, and the extended conducting rod did not affect the safe and stable operation of the GIS terminal. Extend the conductive rod by finite element simulation calculation interface without air gap and 0.1 mm gap, the distribution of electric field in both cases, contact resistance conforms to the requirements under the premise, extend the conductive rod interface is 0.1 mm gap the maximum field strength of 1.4 kv/mm, less than the sulfur hexafluoride gas breakdown voltage, contact air gap does not affect the safe and stable operation of the GIS terminal.

In the 0-3GHz frequency range, propagation characteristic of electromagnetic which is excited by partial discharge in GIS is simulated based on the method of finite difference time domain (FDTD). This paper designs the GIS simulation models with and without insulator according to the size of a 220kV single phase GIS bus and sets a metal protrusion defect on the bus as the PD source.

Abstract The current medium voltage Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS) predominantly use Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) as insulation medium. The leakage tests performed on GIS use either SF6 or Helium medium to ensure gas tightness. However, SF6 has been strictly regulated for the last years due to the high global warming potential effect on the planet. As a response, new technologies are emerging using air as insulation medium. The present work establishes a basic comparison of the leakage rate in a medium voltage GIS using two different leak detection methods: Helium leak detector and Residual Gas Analyser (RGA). Both methods use Helium and additionally RGA using air as tracer gas.

Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) gas and SF6 gas mixtures are widely used in gas-insulated systems (GIS) because they have good dielectric and thermal properties. Among the various gas mixtures investigated so far, SF6-air, SF6-CO2, and SF6-N2 are most used gas mixtures. Also, these mixtures have much technical superiority in GIS. These are nontoxic and nonflammable gases, and they have less sensitivity to nonuniformities and higher liquefaction temperature at high pressure. GIS, switchgears, circuit breakers, and substations are systems that work with alternating current and have nonuniform electric fields. For this reason, in this study the breakdown mechanisms of 0.125, 0.5, 1, and 20% SF6 gas mixtures with rod-plane configuration under AC voltage are investigated and explained breakdown mechanism.

In order to ensure the safe and stable operation of gas insulated switchgear (GIS), a new method for identifying the type of partial discharge in GIS is proposed. First, the GIS partial discharge experimental platform produced four partial discharge signals. Second, the energy moments are calculated at each frequency to produce the frequency division features after the four partial discharge signals have been decomposed using variational modal decomposition (VMD). Finally, the type of GIS partial discharge is determined using the LSTM model enhanced by the quantum cuckoo search (QCS) algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed method can successfully identify four types of partial discharge in GIS with an accuracy of 99%.

GIS (gas-insulated switchgear) is important equipment in the substation system in a complex microgrid network. Due to the long-term service in harsh operation environments, the electrical performance of GIS equipment will be seriously affected. Therefore, the regular maintenance of GIS equipment in the substation system is a routine task so as to ensure the normal operation of the microgrid networks. The traditional method relies on manual labor, where not only with the low operation efficiency but also regarding some maintenance, labors cannot reach the inside of the GIS equipment, which seriously restricted the completion of GIS equipment maintenance operation. Based on the above analysis, a basic configuration of a GIS equipment maintenance robot with smart structure, convenient control, and stable motion characteristic has been proposed in this paper. Through the optimization design of the chassis adsorption system, the GIS inspection robot can achieve hanging and vertical adsorption inside the GIS equipment and some special motion status. In this way, the entire GIS equipment can be inspected without blind spots. Through establishing the mechanical model of the GIS inspection robot under the hanging and vertical motion state, the robustness and stability of the GIS inspection robot in the special status have been analyzed, and the corresponding GIS inspection robot robust stability motion control method has also been proposed. Finally, through the integrated design of mechanical system and hardware and software control system, the GIS inspection robot physical prototype system has been developed and the maintenance operation experiment has been carried out in Hunan Electric Power Company Maintenance Company through simulating the internal GIS equipment. The physical prototype can realize the basic movement and special movement in internal GIS equipment without any blind spots and complete the inspection task of GIS equipment operation; the movement of GIS robot is dexterous and stable in the whole operation process, which has strong robust stability. The research of GIS inspection robot in the complex microgrid networks has important theoretical significance and practical application value for the intelligent operation and maintenance management of substation system in complex microgrid networks.

In electrical instrumentality with SF6 gas insulation, the quality of SF6 gas in line with the standard is prime to wise insulation power, if there' a decrease in gas quality, there'll even be a decrease among the number of voltage insulation on electrical equipment. throughout this case, it had been found that the quality of SF6 gas was deteriorating within the Ganz whole GIS Compartment at the Waru Substation Substaction, specifically the position level of the SF6 isolation gas that exceeded the required standard limit. Besides, this GIS isn't equipped with silica gel/desiccant as a condition gripping material and gas sorbent material from amendment PMT (IEEE Std 11251993) that ends throughout a decrease among the standard of SF6 gas. The addition of drier among the GIS is needed to keep up the quality of SF6 gas. These materials are analyzed for quantity and performance once applied within the compartment therefore as that deterioration of the quality of SF6 gas and thus the prevalence of insulation failure is avoided as early as possible, and SF6 remains in its characteristics with a BDV of 78.6 kV/cm (according to SF6 crucial Breakdown Volatge). And it hoped that SF6 gas will add line with it operate as a decent insulating medium. As degree application, a drier experiment has been administered among the GIS compartment at the Waru Substation station

In this paper, we present an acoustic-structure couple interaction model of partial discharge (PD) in Gas Insulated Switchgear, the interaction between the internal acoustic source of partial discharge and structure of GIS is simulated with the finite element analysis, and the internal and external acoustic pressure levels distribution of GIS is obtained. The results based on the frequency sweep shown that the internal acoustic pressure levels is bigger than the external acoustic pressure levels of GIS in the ultrasonic frequency spectrum,it suggests that it should use the ultrasonic sensor with a broadband spectrum response to measure partial discharge in GIS, which can obtain high sensitivity. In addition, the external sound pressure of GIS is very small, and the signal of the Ultrasonic sensors must be amplified for measurement. Meanwhile, the outside acoustic pressure of the epoxy insulator is so small that it can properly judge the adjacent GIS unit partial discharge conditions.

In Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation, the spacer used for supporting conductor, isolating air chamber and insulation is a very important insulation component in GIS pipe, and it is important to study the spacer to ensure the insulation performance and quality of GIS. Local distortion of electric field distribution will be produced when electromagnetic wave propagates to spacers. In this article, the static capacitance calculated by electromagnetic simulation is used to model spacers.

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas has been used to gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) because of its insulation properties and extinguishing characteristics. The processing of liquid sulfur hexafluoride from cylinders into GIS is endothermic. The processing gas inflation always leads to decrease SF6 gas inflation speed due to the lack of heat supplement and the infiltrated moisture will stick on the GIS equipment, especially at the valve outlet. In the paper, a heater detection device for sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) steel cylinder is developed. The new heater device will monitor and display the specific temperature and humidity of the valve outlet instantaneously and then heat and dry the sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) steel cylinder with automatic and stability. Then it helps to speed up the sulfur hexafluoride gasification. Meanwhile, the whole device is portable in safety.
