During the biosynthesis of tail-anchored (TA) membrane proteins, their single C-terminal trans-membrane segment is inserted into the ER membrane for orientating the functional domain(s) towards the cytosolic side of the cell. The machinery responsible for this post-translational process has only recently come to light. In yeast, the proteins participating in TA protein insertion include Get1/Get2, Get3, Get4 and Get5. Although structural information and the individual roles of most components of this system have been defined, the interactions and interplay between them remain to be elucidated. Here, we investigated the interactions between Get3 and the Get4/Get5 complex (Get4/5) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We show that Get3 interacts with Get4/5 via an interface dominated by electrostatic forces. Using isothermal titration calorimetry and small-angle X-ray scattering, we further demonstrate that the Get3 homodimer interacts with two copies of the Get4/5 complex to form an extended conformation in solution.

BACKGROUND: To compare the recovery time and other related clinical outcomes among patients who underwent Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM) with axillary lymph node dissection under Continuous Thoracic Epidural Anesthesia (CTEA) and General Endotracheal Tube Anesthesia (GETA).METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study with 70 patients who underwent MRM in De La Salle University Medical Centre (DLSUMC), categorized into GETA and CTEA group consisted of 35 patients each. Per oral premedications 15 mg midazolam, 40 mg omeprazole and 10 mg metoclopramide were given 1 hour prior to surgery. Intra-operative hypotension/hypertension, tachycardia/bradycardia status, length of Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and hospital stay, and Post Operative Nausa and Vomiting (PONV) incidence were compared between 2 groups.RESULTS: Preoperatively, there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of subject characteristic. Intra-operatively, hypertension was more frequent in GETA group (28.6% vs. 0%), while hypotension was more frequent in the CTEA (80% vs. 57.1%). Tachycardia was more frequent in GETA group (46.6% vs. 0%), meanwhile bradycardia was more frequent in CTEA (40% vs. 17.1%). Postoperatively, the GETA group had shorter PACU stay than CTEA (230 mins vs. 267 mins), but CTEA group had a shorter time of hospital stay compared to GETA (58.1 hours vs. 67.7 hours). The incidence of PONV were comparable among the two groups (GETA 46.7% vs. CTEA 50%). Statistically there were no significant differences between the two groups in all of the above characteristics.CONCLUSION: CTEA technique has no effect on inducing hypertension and tachycardia, but hypotension and bradycardia may occur. Although GETA gives shorter PACU duration, CTEA gives shorter hospital stay. This gave impression that CTEA is an effective alternative technique to GETA in patients who underwent MRM with axillary dissection.KEYWORDS: modified radical mastectomy, general anesthesia, epidural anesthesia

The Old Norse noun sproti(masc.) displays a variety of meanings, only some of which are preserved in Modern Icelandic. The present article seeks, largely on the basis of material from the Copenhagen Dictionary of Old Norse Prose (ONP), to map the usage of the term and its compounds. Many of the occurrences in old texts have religious overtones, either Christian – partly as a translation of Lat. virga – or pagan – especially in connection with the god Óðinn, while others concern tales of magic and fantasy.Down-to-earth use of the term is too rare for its basic meaning to clearly occur. It is, however, tempting to connect it with the common practice of coppicing or pollarding trees for a variety of uses, from tree hay to firewood, including any sort of poles or sticks. The term sproti would then primarily refer to the young stems harvested from such trees and secondarily to fancier magic wands and regal sceptres, even when made of ivory or gold. The Odinic reyrsproti and laufsproti might then refer to tender stems used, respec-tively, for fastening (cf. vb. reyra ‘tie’) and for animal feed.

In this dissertation, I investigate the representation of the emperor's image in Rome and the provinces of the Roman Empire. This study examines portraits in the round and inscribed bases of emperors Caracalla (AD 196-217) and Geta (AD 198-211) and asks how and why patrons chose to set up honorific statuary monuments and display imperial images. I explore the process of conception, mediation, and reception of the emperor's authorised likeness, addressing a set of fundamental questions: Who commissioned copies of imperial portraits and for what occasion? How did sculptors acquire and copy portrait types? Where were imperial portraits displayed and to which extent context determined their appearance in terms of scale, material, format, and costume types? The archaeological a.'1d epigraphic evidence is interpreted from the perspective of commissioners, executors, and intended viewers, in order to define the ancient perception of the emperor's persona. In the process, I bring to attention instances in which imperial images agreed with, or diverted from, the self-image that emperors promoted through the state media. Finally, I relate Caracalla's sculpted portraiture to the broader context of art and epigraphy and define its place in the history of imperial representation from Augustus to Constantine. The result is a cross-section of the visual perception of the imperial persona in a moment of transition in Roman imperial history, between the flourishing age of the Antonines and the troubled time of the Soldier-Emperors. The scenario described is that of a tight ideological connection between centre and periphery manifested by the sensitivity of metropolitan and provincial communities to changes and re-configurations in imperial policies. Diversity in the way social constituents chose to represent the emperor shows that there was hot one uniform understanding of the emperor's status and powers, but rather a set of complementary "perceptions" which can be described as individual responses to a common desire of patrons to negotiate their place within their community and the Empire as a whole.

Addiction treatments have a very low rate of successful recovery in the U.S., consequently, treatment recidivism and substance abuse death are imminent. The purpose of this paper was to determine the relationship between marginalization and what type of treatment an individual received. This paper used a binary logistic regression to determine whether being a marginalized increases likelihood of receiving the lesser form of addiction treatment. The independent variable was split into 11 marginalization/privilege variables. The hypothesis for this paper were split into three models: 1) marginalization predicts an increase in an individuals likelihood of receiving Narcotic Anonymous treatment, 2) marginalization predicts an increase in the likelihood of receiving treatment in a Methadone maintenance facility, and 3) privilege predicts an increase in an individuals likelihood of receiving the inpatient treatment type. There are two variables that have a significant impact across all three models. Legality of income and status of felony record both impact the likelihood of receiving a certain treatment type. Thus, marginalization in the form of an illegal income or a felony record does increase an individual’s likelihood of receiving both Narcotics Anonymous as well as Methadone treatment types. Inversely, privilege increases an individual’s likelihood of receiving the inpatient treatment type. In conclusion, having illegal income and/or a felony record increases the likelihood of receiving the lesser treatment forms, while, having legal funds and no felony record increases the likelihood of receiving the better treatment option. This means that while privileged folks get treatment for their addictions marginalized folks remain a permanent addict in 12-step or die from a drug related illness.

Our research project aims to carry out a cross-study of the translation as well the genre of the texts translated from Latin to late medieval French along with Ancient Comedies and dialogues from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries -- a period marked by the multiplication of translations and the emergence of “Comedies”. On the one hand, we specifically intend to analyze the act of translating while assessing, on the other hand, the notion of theatricality or at least the possibility of performing these versified texts that are mostly dialogue-based and which we suggest labeling “dialogues” or “tales to play”. Indeed, from our modern perspective it does not seem relevant/appropriate to follow some generic classifications insofar as the question of medieval theatre whether it be sacred or profane, has already been discussed at length with the plays being listed, categorized and sorted over and over again according to the characteristics discussed by critics under various lights. To address these questions/issues, we have put together a corpus that favors the understanding/apprehension of the translators' various positions (from accuracy to rewriting) and the different styles of “dramatic tales”. Thus, our corpus is made up of the pre-1466 translation of Terence's Andria attributed to Guillaume Rippe (Paris, BnF, NAF 4804) and Eustache Deschamps' Traicté de Getta et d'Amphitrïon mis de latin en françois (Paris, BnF, fr. 840) based on Vital de Blois' Geta dating back, according to our research, to the years 1365-1385. Our work on Traicté de Getta et d'Amphitrïon mis de latin en françois has led us to take an interest in other “dramatic” plays of the 14th century such as “farces”, “versified plays, dits” and “dialogue-based ballads.” We use quotation marks out of caution as at this time the different terminological uses very often replaced one another. Moreover, the reflection on the staging of these texts is based on the analysis of Dit des quatre offices de l'ostel du roi and Chançon Royal a deux visaiges by Deschamps and the editing of Farce de Maistre Trubert et d'Antrongnart, two poems, sote chansons (Sote chançon de cinq vers a deux visaiges and Sote chançon a deux visaiges d'un compaignon qui vient de Paris), ballads («Je ne sçay de communs mestiers», « Enseigniez moi, douce gent », « Cergens, prenez moi ce larron ») and Dit de menage, an anonymous play from the fourteenth century (Paris, BnF, fr. 24432). Two major and joint fields of research then open. The first one, ecdotic and linguistic, focuses on the editing and translation of source texts from Latin to French. The second one, aesthetic and stylistic, strives to examine the codicological, formal and generic clues of theatricality, if not of staging, at least of “putting into voice”. Thus, the various texts of our corpus will help us question the very act of translating at the end of the Middle Ages. First, through the question of translation practices. How did the translators work with their source material? What were the aims of such translations? We will wonder if, ultimately, the actor through his work on language and the source text cannot also be considered an auctor. Then, we will address the question of the reasons for these translations. Were they commissioned by higher dedicatees? Or, on the contrary, were they intended for some private distribution or for a small circle of people, the clergy, for example? Between delectatio and utilitas, what were the purposes of these translations? Why choosing to translate or rewrite texts belonging to a genre that is all or in part based on dialogue when the only reference available to us today seem to suggest that these texts were intended for reading only? What evidence of performance can be found in the dramatic works and their material format?

This Master of Science Thesis was a complement project to the PIEp study MENTOL, carried out at a Swedish midsize medical device company.. PIEp nationally works for a long-term increase of the innovation capability of people and organizations. The purpose of this study was to find measuring parameters of innovation that fit medium-sized technological companies and organizations, Another purpose was to evaluate an innovation investment at the company, consisting of external consultant’s education of key personnel in innovation, and a two day innovation seminar with all personnel at the company participating. The methods used during this Master of Science Thesis were: feasibility and literature studies about innovation and innovation measurements, quantitative and qualitative interviews, surveys and workshops. For an accurate measure of innovation it is crucial to a have full understanding of what innovation is, and clarity of the purpose of the measurement itself. It is also of importance to measure in different categories of metrics, adapted to scope in all levels of innovation within specific business’s or organizations. Such categories are; Strategy and Long-term, Inputs and Outputs, and Team and Individual. The optimal number of metrics per category is five to seven. Though the number of metrics per category varies depending on the size and business of the organization, it should never exceed 15. To gain a higher level of innovation a balance of incremental, semi-radical and radical innovation s is of importance. The recommended categories of innovation measure are: Prediction Market, Open innovation, Market Push & Risk Factors, Patent ration in product portfolio, Goal Prediction, Team assembly, and Education & Certifications.

In industrial practice today, the focus is mainly on production automation, big data and smart things. But processes that can't be automated yet are being forgotten. These are manual assembly operations. In the world of assembly, it is still not possible to replace all manual activities appropriately with automation. For this reason, too, there is still a need to address standard setting. However, performance has long since ceased to be the only factor considered by industrial companies. As important as it is to ensure that workers are as productive as possible and that the resulting revenue is maximized. However, the health of the workforce itself cannot be ignored. In order to achieve optimal results, it is necessary to constantly link performance and workers' health. This thesis will examine precisely the link between rationalization and ergonomics or between the setting of standards, worker movements, and potential worker overload. Specifically, it focuses on finding the link between ergonomics and norming or finding the link between local muscle loading and the pre-set time method. The contribution of this work is to detect bad movements at the design stage of a new workplace, as well as to detect dangerous movements in real production without EMG measurements. The evaluation and selection of a suitable measurement tool is the result of the research part. After studying the literature and articles that deal with ergonomics, a measuring instrument for measuring local muscle strain using electromyography will be used for the dissertation research. In the Czech Republic, there is only one measuring device, which is: EMG Holter from Geta. The data collection is oriented toward workers in assembly companies within the Czech Republic, therefore the EMG Holter will be used. Due to the research conducted and literature studied, it was found that the most common occupational disease is upper limb disorders, which are caused by overuse and repetitive movements. Carpal tunnel syndrome has been the most common occupational disease in the Czech Republic for several years. The issue of local muscle strain is nowadays very much addressed. In the Czech Republic, the local muscle load is measured on the forearms of the upper limbs (flexor, extensor). The only legally approved device is the EMG Holter from Geta. The review of scientific articles focused mainly on the issue of norming, with a detailed focus on the MOST method (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) and its connection with ergonomics. Subsequently, the field of integrated electromyography was explored, especially the measurement of local muscle loading on the upper forearm. Due to the very small sample of papers found on the topic of the link between the MOST method and ergonomics in general, it was found that a very small number of authors had dedicated their research to this topic. However, the models found did not include a link to any norming method focusing on local muscle loading. The aim of this thesis is Identification of the relationship between local muscle loading and the pre-set time method. Within this thesis, I will discuss the MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) or the method of analysing movement patterns. In order to understand the aforementioned link, it is necessary to create a database of at-risk movements and relate these movements to the MOST method.

This report presents results based on in-depth field work in eight case studies of rural areas identified as having high access to services or as good examples in their national and regional context: Lolland, Suðuroy, Kinnula, Avannaata, Múlaþing, Herøy, Vimmerby and Geta. The aim of the field work has been to investigate service provision and validate the results of a research and policy review focusing on Nordic rural areas. The investigations presented in this report focus on the following questions: (1) Which services are considered essential, and how does that vary in rural areas across the Nordics? (2) How are services provided, what roles and responsibilities are involved in their provision? (3) Which challenges are encountered, and what solutions are being developed to solve challenges associated with access to essential services in Nordic rural areas?
