Cobîleni Natural Forest Reserve with a surface of 33.5 ha is situated near Lopatna village, Orhei district, on the right bank of the Dniester River. The aim of the study was to assess the geometrid moths (Lepidoptera, Geometridae) fauna from this reserve. The most part of entomological materials from Cobîleni Natural Forest Reserve discussed in this paper were collected at the light trap during vegetation period of 2018. In the paper the list of fifty-five geometrids species is given, also their geographical distribution, ecological and trophic structure. The geometridae species collected from this reserve belong to five subfamilies. Most of the captured specimens belong to the Ennominae subfamily with 36 species, as it is typical for mesophilous meadows, followed by Sterrhinae with nine species, then Larentiinae with eight, and finally Orthostixinae and Geometrinae with only one species each. In the result of establishing of taxonomic affiliation of the entomological material collected during 2018, a new geometrid species for the fauna of the Republic of Moldova was identified: Cyclophora linearia.

Recent advances in molecular systematics have led to an emerging understanding of the phylogenetic history of the family Geometridae. These studies have basically confirmed the traditional subdivision of the subfamily Larentiinae into tribes but unsolved problems remain. Here we test the monophyly of the tribe Perizomini, and evaluate the division of this tribe into genera using Bayesian and maximum likelihood analyses of one mitochondrial and eight nuclear gene fragments. We show that the Eurasian members of Perizoma Hübner, 1825, Mesotype Hübner, 1825 and Gagitodes Warren, 1893 together form a monophyetic tribe Perizomini. However, Martania Mironov, 2000 is not closely related to these genera, but is considered to belong to Melanthiini according to the results of the phylogenetic analyses. Morphological evidence supporting this rearrangement is discussed. The Nearctic Larentia basaliata Walker, 1862 was shown to belong in the genus Martania as M. basaliata (Walker, 1862) comb. nov. and being specifically distinct from the morphologically similar Palaearctic M. taeniata. Three other studied ‘Perizoma’ species from the New World were similarly placed far from Perizomini in the phylogenetic tree, and were not related to each other. We conclude that both the tribe Perizomini and the genus Perizoma are polyphyletic which indicates that the group needs a global revision. It remains an open question whether Perizomini have a worldwide distribution as previously assumed, or is this tribe confined to the Palaearctic region.

Four moth species are grouped in the genus Paromphacodes today. We add descriptions of further five new species: Paromphacodes alticola sp. nov., P. alpha sp. nov., P. onae sp. nov., P. spina sp. nov. and P. summita sp. nov. The species are confined to the parámo biome on summits of Andean volcanoes and were collected on five mountains. The case of the three first named species shows that the deep COI barcode splitting does not affect morphological diversification. The differentiation of P. alticola, P. alpha and P. onae is explained in association with orogeny of Andes and repeated periods of the local active volcanism.

A new species, Dyscia intermedia sp. n., is described from the Balkan Peninsula, Serbia. Dyscia intermedia sp. n. differs from the other European members of the genus Dyscia Hübner, 1825 notably in the male genitalia, including the everted vesica. The new species is very similar in appearance to Dyscia raunaria (Freyer, 1851) and Dyscia royaria Tautel & Billi, 2006 and rather less so to Dyscia conspersaria ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), but the differences in the genitalia are sharply prominent and constant and after examination of genitalia these species can be easily split. The differences in the genital features between the new species and D. raunaria and D. conspersaria are more prominent than between D. raunaria and D. royaria. Dyscia intermedia sp. n. is potentially an endemic species, found in three closely situated localities in eastern Serbia.

The genus Eucyclodes was originally established by Warren (1894) on the basis of Phorodesma buprestaria Guenée, 1858. Eucyclodes is a large genus, which contains more than 90 species (Scoble 1999; Scoble & Hausmann 2007), mainly distributed in the Indo-Australian tropics, and more than 50% of all species are found in New Guinea. More than 90% of all Eucyclodes species were described before the 1950s. The most recent additions were made by Inoue (1978, 1986), Holloway & Sommerer (1984), Holloway (1996), and Tautel (2016), who each erected one new species per publication. The tribal position of Eucyclodes is still uncertain, for example, Pitkin (1996), Holloway (1996) and Ban et al. (2018) placed it in the tribe Nemoriini (or Nemoriiti), and the most recent research by Murillo-Ramos et al. (2019) found that Eucyclodes is sister to other Nemoriini and the authors did not assign it to any tribe.

AbstractThe classification of Parepisparis Bethune-Baker (Geometridae: Oenochrominae) is revised. The genus occurs in New Guinea (i.e., Irian Jaya and part of Papua New Guinea) and Australia. Seventeen species are included, seven of them new. Three genera (Onychopsis Prout, Peratodactyla Turner, and Epicampyla Turner) are newly synonymized with Parepisparis. Larvae are described for two species. The monophyly of Parepisparis is based largely on the shape of the valva of the male genitalia supported, to some extent, by that of the bursa copulatrix of the female genitalia, the colour pattern of the wings and, possibly, the presence of dorsal prothoracic processes and modified setae in the larva. The Oenochrominae are a polyphyletic subfamily, with the Oenochrominae s. str. here confined to the so-called robust-bodied members of the grouping. This excludes the slenderbodied species, and various geometrid genera that have been added to the oenochromines by default.

AbstractFor the last 50 years, populations of the Bruce spanworm, Operophtera bruceata Hulst, and other wingless geometrid species have been sampled using sticky bands placed around host-tree trunks to catch wingless females in search of oviposition sites. This method is tedious and, because of trap saturation by males, may underestimate female populations at moderate to high levels. A standard oviposition trap was developed to sample eggs of the Bruce spanworm and other wingless geometrid species. A small polyurethane foam band placed on a post covered by a Multi-Pher® plate detected low populations and was almost unsaturable during outbreaks. Sub-sampling can be easily done in such situations. Egg density on oviposition traps was higher than female density on sticky bands for both the Bruce spanworm and the fall cankerworm, Alsophila pometaria Harris. This suggests that the oviposition trap might be useful to sample other wingless geometrid species. Operating this system was easy and could involve woodlot owners and companies to reduce the traveling costs necessary to collect samples.

The genus Ennada Blanchard, 1852 is reviewed and redefined. A coniform signum in the genitalia of the female and androconium in the basal third of the costa of the valvae in the male genitalia constitute diagnostic characters for the genus. The genera Phyllia Blanchard 1852 and Anchiphyllia Butler 1893 are junior synonyms of Ennada. The following species are included: E. flavaria Blanchard 1852, E. pellicata (Felder & Rogenhofer 1875) comb. nov., and E. blanchardi sp. nov. The geographic distribution of the genus is between 29º and 44º S in Chile. The adults, their genitalia and distribution are described and illustrated. A key to differentiate the species is provided.
