The sustainable development goals (SDGs) suggest sustainable cities and communities (Goal 11) as inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable human settlements. However, existing efforts in urban sustainability have mainly focused on ecological and environmental sustainability, with little attention paid to development, economic, and cultural sustainability. Moreover, a lack of adaptability is a barrier to cross-nation or cross-region implementation of many urban sustainability frameworks due to diverse urban contexts. Furthermore, most studies have developed sustainability frameworks and guides only for one-time assessments and the progress of urban sustainability has been neglected. Improving urban sustainability by considering multiple dimensions and local adaptability through dynamic assessment remains a question. Therefore, this study aims to develop an urban environment examination system (UEES) framework that includes construction, economy and industry, environment and resource, municipal and cultural facilities, and development potential dimensions. The UEES framework consists of 31 indicators associated with critical information (i.e., reported by the statistical yearbooks) from different levels of government in China. An annual update of statistical data ensures the availability of dynamic data, allowing urban managers and decision makers to regularly track urban sustainability. Furthermore, the UEES framework was applied to Qingdao, an urbanizing city in China, to examine the feasibility of the UEES framework. The results indicate that well-urbanized districts could perform better in terms of overall sustainability (e.g., Shinan, Shibei, Laoshan, Chengyang), while districts in suburban and outer suburban areas had lower urban sustainability levels. However, well-urbanized districts could not perform better in all dimensions than suburban and outer suburban districts. Moreover, the transition from less-urbanized to well-urbanized districts could lead to environmental deterioration and economy deceleration (if industries are not well upgraded), but culture and development sustainability can be improved. Overall, this study provides a methodological framework that prioritizes comprehensiveness and local adaptability to perform regular urban environment examinations for urban sustainability in China and provides a reference for urban sustainability improvement by identifying aspects with low scores in Qingdao, China.

The study examines the 2014 Revised Social Studies Syllabus for Colleges of Education in Ghana. Twelve tutors were sampled from six Colleges of Education in the Western and Central Regions of Ghana using the purposive sampling technique. The main research instrument used was an interview guide. Data collected were transcribed and analyzed using qualitative procedures. The structure and contents of the syllabus were first discussed followed by the data collected from therespondents. The study confirmed the perception held by many that social studies offered in the Colleges of Education in Ghana is integrated, based on the social sciences. It was revealed that the content areas of the subject are based on disciplines such as Geography, Economics, History, Sociology and Government. More so, inspite of the few gaps found between the syllabus and the JHS Social Studies syllabus, to a.very large extent, the Social Studies syllabus for the Colleges of Education is consistent with the JHS syllabus. Among the recommendations made was the need for tutors to adopt innovative approaches in teaching to enable them to complete the outline for each semester before End of Semester Examinations

The examination of pedagogies that promote effective sustainability learning has led to vigorous academic discussion, as has research regarding the role of competence-based learning for sustainability. This paper investigates the role of a study abroad program, the Engineers without Borders Design Summit, in promoting the acquisition of sustainability competencies in its students. This study analysed both content of the program pedagogy and the written learning reflections of 137 student participants to examine if the program resulted in sustainability competence acquisition. The study’s findings suggested that students did acquire sustainability competencies during the program, but also that students may become competence-literate but context-lacking as they acquire competency skillsets without understanding their purpose for use as sustainability tools or to promote sustainability outcomes. Therefore, this study recommends that competence-based education for sustainability requires situation of competence acquisition within sustainability contextualisation to ensure full competence potential is fulfilled. This study suggests that contextualisation can occur in a number of ways, including the use of defined sustainability principles as boundary conditions to frame learning environments, the use of sustainability epistemic teachers as “guides” to connect learning to sustainability and the facilitation of student experiences with unsustainability to promote personally motivated action towards sustainability.

In South Africa, paper-based geographic information system (PBGIS) was introduced as a strategy to resolve the hindrances in schools without computers in implementing GIS. This study explores the geography teachers’ perceptions of implementing PBGIS in a rural learning ecology. In this context, PBGIS is defined as teaching and learning of GIS utilising topographic and orthographic maps, while rural learning ecology refers to a school in a rural environment consistent with how learners learn in a particular context. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) constituted the theoretical framework used to understand the geography teachers’ perceptions in this inquiry. Qualitative research methods, and semi-structured interviews were used to generate data to answer the research question. Two geography teachers from a rural learning ecology were purposively selected to participate in this study. The data generated from the field was then analysed thematically utilising a deductive and inductive approach. The findings showed the following: inadequate teacher training; teachers are unsure about the resources required for PBGIS; lack of teaching time; and the complexity of PBGIS concepts, and improper PBGIS examination setting. This study proposes that the Department of Basic Education (DBE), in association with universities, train teachers and provide resources; support teachers by reviewing the time allocated in the Annual Teaching Plan (ATP) for teaching PBGIS; engage teachers about ways to simplify PBGIS concepts when teaching; and guide teachers on the approaches that must be used when teaching PBGIS.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between the price charged for a guest room in a farmhouse with an educational farm, the farmhouse characteristics and the visitor evaluation of the principal external and internal farmhouse attributes. Design/methodology/approach A large sample of 10,880 visitor reviews, extrapolated from the websites of 399 Italian farmhouses with an educational farm (FEF), was analyzed. Principal component analysis (PCA) was performed to identify the main latent dimensions of the farmhouses (visitor satisfaction with farmhouse attributes, farmhouse dimensions, visitor frequency, farmhouse services, types of accommodation and altitude) that affect the price charged for a guest room. Subsequently, multivariate regression was applied to measure the impact of these new latent factors on the price. Findings Overall, the results indicate that the price of a farmhouse with an educational farm – in the context of this niche of the Italian agritourism sector – reflects the visitor evaluation of the farmhouse attributes (especially activities and facilities available in the surrounding countryside), the farmhouse dimensions, the types of accommodation, the number of services on offer and the presence of connectivity (WI-FI). In addition, the results reveal that the price represents an important driver that guides guests in their choice of a farmhouse and that it affects visitor satisfaction with farmhouse attributes. Research limitations/implications Because of the sample chosen, the data gathered are limited to one type of organization – Italian FEF. Furthermore, it may be important to investigate in more depth some issues that remain partly unanswered that concern this niche of the Italian agritourism sector. Practical implications Thanks to the identification of latent dimensions by PCA and the examination of their impact on the farmhouse price, farmhouse operators can understand a priori the main determinants on which to focus to improve the quality of activities and facilities available in the farmhouse location to better satisfy visitor expectations. Originality/value This study provides new and practical insights into the farmhouse experience in Italian municipalities, an area where very limited research has been conducted. Indeed, this is one of the few studies to focus on online reviews to evaluate more than two farmhouse attributes and their impact on pricing.

Contemporary urban development places a critical emphasis on pedestrian environments, especially in historic cities like George Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Malaysia. Although survey questionnaires effectively captured public perceptions of issues such as poor road connectivity, weak accessibility, crime and safety concerns in George Town, they fell short in providing a comprehensive understanding of the root causes. This study leverages space syntax theory to model and analyze George Town’s unique pedestrian landscape, aiming to identify strategies for improving pedestrian networks in historical urban landscapes. Space syntax theory, known for revealing structural issues within urban contexts, is applied after a thorough examination of George Town’s urban layout, climate, architectural features, and development policies. George Town employs an informal grid layout widely utilized in British colonial port cities to enhance overall efficiency. The predominant architectural form is the shophouse, which is characterized by a ground level designed for pedestrian movement known as the “five-foot way” and adapted to Malaysia’s climate. Various axis drawing methods for the unique five-foot way under different circumstances are considered. The George Town special area plan (SAP) emphasizing heritage preservation guides development policies, thus requiring an inclusive approach to pedestrian environments. This enhances the practical significance of the current study, with the eastern and northern coastal areas serving as crucial focal points for investigation. This approach results in a comprehensive spatial model that captures the essence of George Town’s pedestrian landscape. Evaluation using space syntax indicators such as connectivity, integration, intelligibility, and choice reveals issues like poor overall network connectivity, inadequate access to key attractions, suboptimal integration, concentrated pedestrian flows, and significant safety concerns, which are exacerbated by limited infrastructure on certain two-way roads and a lack of zebra crossings. The practical implications of this study include recommendations for enhancing pedestrian spaces along identified roads and strategically installing zebra-crossings. This research is significant for its focus on a historical city in a Southeast Asian developing country, deeply integrating local environmental characteristics and providing insights into urban planning and optimization, thereby serving as a reference for similar cities.

Abstract This article continues a discussion of the results of a nationwide study that reviewed 2100 impairment ratings and found a large number of errors (see the May/June issue of The Guides Newsletter). Spinal impairment ratings, for example, often are erroneous. Although the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, (AMA Guides) clearly specifies use of the Diagnosis related estimates (DRE) method, evaluators sometimes incorrectly use the range-of-motion (ROM) method, which is fraught with potential error and typically results in higher impairment ratings. The most common problem associated with rating the lower extremities is combining multiple duplicative impairments. Multiple impairments typically are combined rather than added because the latter usually results in overrating impairments. A sidebar highlights red flags to erroneous AMA Guides ratings, and evaluators can take a number of steps to ensure accurate ratings. The first of these is to ensure an unbiased rating, preferably by a board-certified physician who, ideally, also has certification in the performance of independent medical and impairment examinations. The client requesting the evaluation should provide a cover letter describing the specifics of the evaluation, and the evaluator's report should comply with standards defined in the AMA Guides. All submitted reports should be reviewed by a physician experienced in the use of the AMA Guides; this cannot be accomplished by a nonphysician reviewer.

Abstract In the adversarial setting of an independent medical evaluation (IME), claimants may be incentivized to exaggerate the severity of their problems. The AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides) describes a protocol for assessing impairment associated with chronic pain, including the Impairment Impact Inventory (I3) that consists of 26 items that assess the burden of illness in three domains: pain intensity, interference with activities of daily living, and emotional distress. A study was performed to establish preliminary norms for the I3 and to compare responses of claimants undergoing IMEs with those of treatment-seeking chronic pain patients: 183 patients completed the I3, including fibromyalgia syndrome patients (FMS group), 35 multidisciplinary pain center patients (PC group), and 72 claimants undergoing IMEs. Patients in the latter two groups had a variety of chronic pain problems (and hypothetically may be more likely to exaggerate their problems). The three groups had similar mean scores on the total I3 and for each of the FMS, PC, and IME groups. Results support the hypothesis that participants, in aggregate, do not exaggerate their pain when they undergo IMEs, although some quite possibly do. These results are a step toward establishing a scientific basis for the impairment rating system described in the AMA Guides from consensus-based rules to an evidence-based system for making decisions about impairment.

The Keller Plan for a personalized system of instruction as applied to college-level courses is usually characterized by (a) individual pacing, (b) a mastery orientation, (c) the presence of student tutors, (d) the use of printed study guides, and (e) the inclusion of a few lectures for enrichment (Kulik, Kulik, & Carmichael, 1974). In mathematics courses the plan has led to positive reactions from students, lower dropout rates, and higher final examination scores (Anderson & Pritchett, 1977; Peluso & Baranchik, 1977; Rogers & Young, 1977; Struik & Flexer, 1977; Waits & Riner, 1975; Weir, 1977). The issue of the long-term retention of concepts in personalized mathematics courses, however, appears not to have been addressed.

Recent advances in smartphone technology now allow clinicians to use commercially produced applications when studying for nursing certification examinations. The quality of currently available CCRN review applications varies in this first generation of products. Most are limited to multiple-choice practice questions, although a few have additional elements such as study guides and reference charts. Weaknesses found in the applications evaluated include poorly written and edited content, questions limited to rote memorization rather than application and analysis of knowledge, and content too basic or outside the scope of experienced critical care nursing practice. In times of uncertainty, new ideas, concepts and business solutions are born. The crisis caused by the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a wide impact on the tourism sector, from small-scale to multinational companies. Based on an explanatory case study of a tourist guides venture, the paper seeks evidence on how conditions such as social capital, the use of information technologies and the application of new organizational solutions can support entrepreneurship at times of crisis. The paper provides insight into the functioning of Guides without Borders—a venture bringing together over 50 tourist guides. The research is based on the case study methodology supported by semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. Findings indicate that despite harsh times, social ties, trust and technology can leverage an organization. The research also confirms that the application of an innovative approach to the organizational structure and processes (in accordance with the concept of teal organizations) is beneficial at times of crisis. Thus, the organizational approach adapted by the studied organization can serve as an example for future tourist guides and other professionals’ undertakings in uncertain times.

The main aim of this research was to investigate the survival mechanisms employed by tourist guides in the context of the Covid 19 Pandemic. A mixed method research design was adopted, using in-depth interviews with key tourism informants and surveys administered to tourist guides in Gauteng. A total of five key informant interviews and two hundred surveys were collected at the end of the data collection period. Key findings indicate that many tourist guides were unable to access the aforementioned fund and had to implement their own short and long-term survival mechanisms. In many cases, various cost cutting measures were implemented and the utilization of personal savings and loans. Other guides temporarily engaged in different employment to secure an income. This study presents policy and systemic recommendations, which, if accepted and implemented, could assist the reignition of the tourist guide profession post-pandemic and ensure they form part of the tourism sector recovery trajectory. Additionally, further research on tourist guides in South Africa needs to be conducted, to fully understand the various aspects of this profession in the country.

Objective. To accurately drill the Kirschner wire with the help of the 3D-printed personalized guide and to evaluate the feasibility of the 3D technology as well as the outcome of the surgery. Methods. Patients’ DICM data of ankle via CT examinations were introduced into the MIMICS software to design the personalized guides. Two 2mm Kirschner wires were drilled with the help of the guides; the C-arm fluoroscopy was used to confirm the position of the wires before applying the cannulated screws. The patients who underwent ankle arthrodesis were divided into two groups. The experimental group adopted the 3D-printed personalized guides, while the control group received traditional method, i.e., drilling the Kirschner wires according to the surgeon’s previous experience. The times of completing drilling the Kirschner wires to correct position were compared between the two groups. Regular follow-ups were conducted to statistically analyze the differences in the ankle fusion time and AOFAS scores between the two groups. Results. 3D-printed personalized guides were successfully prepared. A total of 29 patients were enrolled, 15 in the experimental group and 14 in the control group. It took 2.2 ± 0.8 minutes to drill the Kirschner wires to correct position in the experimental group and 4.5 ± 1.6 minutes in the control group (p=0.001). No obvious complications occurred in the two groups during and after surgery. Postoperative radiographs confirmed bony fusion in all cases. There were no significant differences in the fusion time (p=0.82) and AOFAS scores at 1 year postoperatively between the two groups (p=0.55). Conclusions. The application of 3D-printed personalized guide in assisting the accurate drilling of Kirschner wire in ankle arthrodesis can shorten the operation time and reduce the intraoperative radiation. This technique does not affect the surgical outcome. Trial Registration Number. This study is registered on www.clinicaltrials.gov with NCT03626935.

This qualitative study investigated the process of Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) storytelling created by tour guides. It explored the strategies that DMZ guides use and their influences at this complex site. This study investigates the training of the guides, their viewpoints on the DMZ, and the factors that influence their storytelling, taking guide status into consideration. A total of thirteen tour guides were interviewed. The findings identify various storytelling components that are used to build relationships with tourists, deliver an immersive experience, and provide the core information and regulations of the tour. Therefore, the proposed conceptual model includes three components that contribute to the creation of a memorable experience: the guide and the tourists, the guide and the site, and the tourists and the site. The findings enrich the body of literature on storytelling and could be used by travel agencies to create new training programs for DMZ tour guides and travel package group management. In addition, DMZ tours could be redesigned to increase the effectiveness of storytelling.

The tour guiding profession was much abused in the past while illegal guiding took place, and remains much the same nowadays. With the use of official documents, this paper outlines issues concerning illegal tour guiding from the past to the present. Document analysis as a qualitative research method was applied in this study. Archival research was carried out, and unpublished documents were analysed to contribute to the literature and shed light on the roots of illegal tour guiding. Archival data was combined with travel guidebooks, official reports, and court files. Despite regulations, problems concerning tour guiding continue to exist to the present day. More than ever before, illegal tour guides employed by travel agencies have become a threat to the employment of licenced guides. The number of illegal tour guides proves that current measures remain incapable of prohibiting illegal guiding activities. Touting seems to be the longstanding main motivation for illegal guides. Unethical guiding practices affect the established image of the destination country. From a historical perspective and underlining issues such as touting through unpublished archived documents and official reports, this paper contributes a detailed understanding of the defective points concerning the travel industry.

Important restrictions, both tariff and non-tariff, have been the main policy instrument in implementing the import substitution industrial strategy which has been pursued by almost all the developing countries. The strategy was visualised as a means of realising higher growth of output and foreign exchange earnings, conservation of foreign exchange and stability of the economy. Efficiency in resource use and income distribution considerations did not assume much significance in the development strategy. The industrial sector of Pakistan, protected from imports through severe quantitative restrictions and even bans, suffered from inefficiencies and rigidities. However, this was realized only by the mid-Sixties when Soligo and Stern (1985), on the basis of effective protection rates reached a very startling, though not entirely correct, conclusion that in most of the industries in Pakistan, value added at world market prices was negative! . The study aroused interest in the examination of efficiency levels, both inside and outside Pakistan, through the computation of effective protection rates. These studies include among others, Balassa (1971); Little, Scitovsky and Scott (1970) and the NBER series on the import regime in many countries. Studies relating to effective protection in Pakistan include Soligo and Stern (1985); Lewis and GUisinger (1968); Kemal (1978); Khan (1978) and Naqvi, Kemal and Heston (1983).

The storey is told via a thorough analysis of her clinical appearance, which includes the emergence of distinct, symmetrical white spots on several body regions. Given Mrs. A's medical history of general health and her elevated stress levels prior to the depigmentation, the diagnostic procedure is carefully broken down, including physical examinations, medical history evaluations, and pertinent laboratory testing. Examining the epidemiology of vitiligo, the study clarifies its worldwide frequency, age at start, genetic predispositions, autoimmune correlations, and subtle effects on people from various ethnic origins. This case study stands out for its examination of the discrepancy between traditional textbook representations and the dynamic, Mrs. A's emotional and psychological reactions to vitiligo require individualised care. A multidisciplinary approach guides the development of treatment strategies that include photo therapy, topical corticosteroids, and specialised psychological support. The storey ends with a discussion of the follow-up procedure, an assessment of the effectiveness of the treatment, emotional healing, and the continued difficulties of long-term care. This case study provides insightful information about the comprehensive care of vitiligo sufferers, highlighting the significance of customised, team-based approaches in addressing the complex aspects of this skin disease.

Geography and tourism are interconnected and mutually enriching areas. Tourism, as the most susceptible activity to innovations, responds to digital geography by increasing population flows, developing territories, organizing services and leads to an increase in the level of self-organization of activities. Digital technologies are actively penetrating the field of excursions and independent tourism. Mobile audio guides capture the infinite variety of urban space, help young people get involved in the process of developing audio guides, update knowledge of geography, history, culture and form the skill of digital presentation of the knowledge gained. Digital technologies contribute to the intensive development of independent tourism in places inside of the "Infrastructures oecumene ". High rates of inbound tourism are registered in Iceland. Tourism in the form of a family trip by car is largely due to the arrival of digital services for accommodation and meals, car rental. In connection with the development of digital geography in the sphere of tourism, new areas of research are taking shape. The main aim of the study is to investigate the role of digital geography in the development of tourism and tourist activities and attempt to draw some practical and innovative conclusion since the tourism industry has been one of the most lucrative industries over the last decades. In this study, methods of analysis and synthesis of scientific literature, data from a review of audio tours of Perm on the izi.TRAVEL platform, and official tourism statistics from Iceland were utilized to fulfil the aim of the study.

Novices and experts alike must engage in the interactional complexities of clinical consultations as a form of institutional talk. This includes reconciling the demands of task completion with those of effective patient communication in order to achieve successful outcomes. This paper reports a study that identifies ‘giving reassurance’ as an area of relative communicative weakness for undergraduate student dentists (novices) and examines the mechanisms by which an experienced dentist (expert) interactionally accomplishes ‘reassurance’ during a single consultation in a multilingual Asian dental education clinic. Two stages of data gathering and analysis were adopted within a multivariate framework (Heritage and Maynard, 2006). First, 51 student dentists were rated using a 360° approach during a single clinical consultation. Interactants and observers rated each student’s communicative performance using an established scale in dentistry (Theaker, Kay, and Gill, 2000). Descriptive statistical analysis identified areas of relatively lower communication performance with ‘giving reassurance’ during the ‘examination’ stage consistently rated as the least accomplished skill. Second, an experienced dentists’ consultation was audio recorded and transcribed. Using conversational analysis (CA) as the method of analysis, strategies are identified in the process of an experienced dentist and a patient co-constructing ‘reassurance’ as a two-way process.

In Hungary, Geography final examinations can be taken in ten foreign languages too. This linguistic diversity is one of the less-known, rarely mentioned values of our public education system, allowing students of bilingual and nationality secondary school programmes to take certain subject exams – like Geography – in foreign languages. Since the introduction of the two-tier Matura examination system, the subject has been one of the most popular choices in foreign language too as such examinations have been held in almost all exam periods. However, changes in the subject’s prestige and the Matura itself are also clearly reflected. The study provides a detailed analysis of intermediate and advanced Geography final exams by language use and discusses factors influencing the spatial distribution and temporal changes of exam numbers. This study is justified not only by the two-tier system’s more than fifteen years of history but by the recent changes of the national curriculum, exam structure and requirements as well.

Modern functionality of library e-catalogs and union catalogs is discussed. The e-catalogs are examined for the features of new generation. However, many features are lacking in e-catalogs. Almost all e-catalogs under examinations are comfortable for use and feature facet navigation, several search modes, instructions and search guides. On the other hand, not many e-catalogs cover the library collection completely, and have to be checked for spelling. Just few ecatalogs offer fonts for visually impaired people, recommendations orthe possibility to add information to bibliographic records. Definitely, e-catalog bibliographic records comprise additional information, i. e. book cover images, annotations, and less frequently – lists of contents. However, as a rule, this data is included into blbliographic records of modern publications. Many e-catalogs comprise full texts or links to full texts. The study findings evidence on the need to improve ecatalog functionality to offer users more powerful and attractive search tools.

ABSTRACTData quality assurance (DQA) is critical to research data sharing and reuse. There has been a growing recognition of data transparency, reproducibility, credibility, and validity in research. Although the research data curation literature is large, it lacks data quality theory‐guided examinations of DQA practices in research data repositories. This poster paper reports on the preliminary findings of a larger study that examines DQA practices in research data repositories, including their use of DQA ontologies, standards, and metadata vocabularies. In particular, the paper examines two quality standards and an ontology for their conceptualization of DQA activities and their structure. The authors used the findings of the analysis and the data quality literature to synthesize an initial model of a DQA process in research data repositories that conceptualizes three DQA activities: evaluation, intervention, and communication. This paper can inform the development of ontologies and best practice guides for designing and evaluating DQA workflows in research data repositories.

Drones or unoccupied aerial vehicles are rapidly being used for a spectrum of applications, including replacing traditional occupied aircraft as a means of approaching wildlife from the air. Though less intrusive to wildlife than occupied aircraft, drones can still cause varying levels of disturbance. Policies and protocols to guide lowest-impact drone flights are most likely to succeed if considerations are derived from knowledge from scientific literature. This study examines trends in the scientific literature on using drones to approach wildlife between 2000 and 2020, specifically in relation to the publication types, scientific journals that works are published in, purposes of drone flights reported, taxa studied, and locations of studies. From 223 publications, we observed a large increase in relevant scientific literature, the majority of which were peer-reviewed articles published across 86 scientific journals. The largest proportion of peer-reviewed research articles related to aquatic mammals or aquatic birds and the use or trial of drone flights for conducting population surveys, animal detection, or investigations of animal responses to drone flights. The largest proportion of articles were studies conducted in North America and Australia. Since animal responses to drone flights vary among taxa, populations, and geographic locations, we encourage further growth in the volume of relevant scientific literature needed to inform policies and protocols for specific taxa and (or) locations, particularly where knowledge gaps exist.

Demand for higher education in Kenya has increased despite insufficient funding from the Government. This led to the cost-sharing policy where both the Government, the students, and their households share the costs of higher education. Students are provided with loans through Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). Public universities are supported through capitation grants to meet development and recurrent expenditure. The household contributes towards tuition and upkeep of their students. At Maasai Mara University, it has been observed that at the end of every semester, some students defer their examinations due to fee balances implying that there are gaps in the existing methods of financing a university education. This study, therefore, investigated the effectiveness of the financing methods and their implications on students’ access, completion rates, and quality education based on students’ experiences at the University. The study used a descriptive survey design. The target population was 950 education students who were in their third and fourth years of study. Stratified random sampling was used to select 315 students to participate in the study. Data were collected through questionnaires and interview guides for the class representatives. Documents were also analyzed. The study found that the majority of the students depended on HELB and support from their households to finance their education. The amount of loans allocated to students was inadequate and multiple sources of funding are required to meet the full costs of education. Students from poor backgrounds resorted to menial jobs which affected class attendance and learning outcomes. Other students deferred their examinations affecting academic progression. The study concluded that the current methods of funding university education were not dependable as they negatively affected students’ access, academic progression, completion rates, and quality of learning outcomes. The study recommended the need for an alternative financial support system for students from poor families to complete their studies on schedule.
