Buildings shape cities as those cities grow from and nurture people living and working within the built environment. Thus, the conceptualization of smart building should be brought closer to the smart city initiatives that particularly target ensuring and enhancing the sustainability and quality of urban life. In this paper, we propose that a smart building should be interlinked with a smart city surrounding it; it should provide good experiences to its various occupants and it should be in an ongoing state of evolving as an ecosystem, wherein different stakeholders can join to co-produce, co-provide and co-consume services. Smart buildings require a versatile set of smart services based on digital solutions, solutions in the built environment and human activities. We conducted a multiphase collaborative study on new service opportunities guided by a Design Thinking approach. The approach brought people, technology, and business perspectives together and resulted in key service opportunities that have the potential to make the buildings smart and provide enjoyable experience to the occupants who support their living and working activities in smart cities. This paper provides the resulting practical implications as well as proposes future avenues for research.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the old ways of doing business. Various policies are pursued so that the industry remains able to co-op in a pandemic situation and can revive the business. Likewise, government institutions are required to always be able to provide excellent service to the community and strive to maintain the quality of their services even in a pandemic condition. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is one of the public service institutions that also strive to innovate to be able to provide the best service even in a pandemic condition. One form of strategy that is sought is the LAPAK ASIK ONSITE Services. Blitar is a diverse and growing city. The presence of LAPAK ASIK ONSITE Services can be said to be something new and the people of Blitar are still adapting to this new service model. The new strategy must be well guarded so that the implementation of LAPAK ASIK ONSITE Services in the city of Blitar can run well, be accepted by the community, and satisfy the community following the mandate carried out by the implementation of good governance, including by conducting performance evaluations through community satisfaction surveys. This study aims to measure whether LAPAK ASIK ONSITE Services have been able to provide community satisfaction. This study uses an approach to calculating the Community Satisfaction Index based on PERMENPAN RB no.14-2017. The results of this study indicate that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan in Blitar City has been able to provide good LAPAK ASIK ONSITE Services and can generate community satisfaction.

Injecting drug users (IDUs) experience numerous health problems, but report barriers to utilising general practitioners (GPs). A nurse-led Harm Minimisation-based Primary Healthcare (HMPH) service for IDUs was established within a needle and syringe program in inner-city Sydney with Area Health Service medical support and clinical governance. This paper aimed to describe the HMPH service, review service utilisation and assess nurses’ perceptions of their work with IDUs. A review of the most recent 200 clinic files was undertaken. Service utilisation, GP and other health service use and access were extracted and analysed using SPSS. A semi-structured qualitative interview with clinic nurses regarding their experience working with IDUs and local GPs was conducted and analysed. Since its inception in mid-2006, the service has been utilised by 417 clients. Of the most recent 200 files, blood-borne virus and sexually transmitted infection screening were the primary reason for presentation (64.5%). At least one follow-up visit was attended by 90% of clients. A total of 62% of clients reported consulting a GP in the last 12 months. The service provided 102 referrals. Nurses believed that IDUs tend to utilise GPs ineffectively and that self-care is a low priority, but that they can support IDUs to overcome some barriers to GPs and facilitate access. Targeted primary health care services led by nurses with focussed medical support and co-located with needle and syringe programs can fill an important gap in delivering and facilitating health care to IDUs.

The capacity of the government, be it human resources, infrastructure, and budget, is often not comparable with the problems that must be addressed, especially in handling and controlling the spread of COVID-19. Besides, both the public and the private sector have resources that can be used to reduce the burden on the government. In public services, it is also very possible for co-production to occur, especially in services in the form of health services. The purpose of the study was to determine the practice of co-production in the covid-19 vaccination in Tanjungpinang City. The method used in this study uses a qualitative approach and is presented descriptively, then the informants are determined using purposive sampling. The findings reveal that there is a co-production practice in vaccination between the Tanjungpinang COVID-19 volunteers and the government through related parties. Volunteers are involved in producing health services in this vaccination through socialization, registration of vaccine participants, mobilization, and service flow in the implementation of vaccination

Smart Cities represent a new paradigm, a new smart and sustainable urban model that is empowered by increasingly sophisticated technologies applied in various sectors of city ecosystem to enable actors to co-create value. The main actors to be engaged in this transformation process are the citizens who in turn can represent multiple actors simultaneously within the urban environment and are actively involved in economic, social and political life. For this reason, this conceptual paper aims to point out the effective smart city patterns enabling factors. This topic can be very issued in small towns where there are numerous structural, cultural and demographical barriers that inhibit their use from every day-life to urban settings of an increasingly digitized Public Administration. After framing cities as smart service systems and given the issues regarding the citizens’ predisposition and ability to use technologies, with effects in terms of value co-creation, smart citizens and capabilities co-elevation have been outlined as drivers. An illustrative case involving a smart tourism app (PayTourist) in a small town in Southern Italy (Castellabate) is proposed to outline the factors that influence the technology acceptance by citizens and the ways to foster a capabilities co-elevation path. It would be appropriate for scholars and practitioners to adopt the service innovation roadmap to design and map the development of smart cities through the capabilities upskilling of actors involved.

This explorative study aims to contribute to the debate about citizen involvement in (complex) medical and social issues. Our research goals are: (1) to explore the main opportunities, threats and challenges to co-producing healthcare in vulnerable communities from the perspective of professionals, co-producers (i.e., citizens with a volunteering role) and service users (i.e., patients); (2) to distil lessons for public managers concerning the main issues involved in designing co-production initiatives. We studied co-production initiatives in the Dutch city, The Hague. These initiatives were part of a broader, unique movement named ‘Healthy and Happy The Hague’, which aims to change the way healthcare/social services are provided. Two intertwined research projects combine insights from interviews, focus group meetings and observations. The first project analyzed a variety of existing co-production initiatives in several neighborhoods; the second project involved longitudinal participatory action research on what stakeholders require to engage in co-production. The two research projects showed similarities and differences in the observed opportunities/treats/challenges. The study found that empowering citizens in their role as co-producers requires major changes in the professionals’ outlook and supporting role in the communities. It illustrates the potential of synergizing insights from healthcare governance and public administration co-production literature to benefit co-production practice.

Legal relation between user and provider, that occurs during the process of signing the agreement on the procurement of goods and services until the process of terminating the agreement, is called civil law relation which is specified as contractual relation. In the process of user and service user agreement, the government is represented by Budget User or Proxy or Commitment Officer (CO) or Procurement Official as an individual. Regarding this matter, the research problem is on how the legal standing of work order by the existence the public procurement agreement and on how the contractual relation between the Commitment Officer (CO) and the procurement of goods and services for the procurement of public goods at the Education Office of Padang City. This research employs empirical juridical approach. Based on the result of the research, it is found that the legal standing of work order, in addition to part of the contract, is also the decision of state administration in carrying out public authority in the form of procurement of goods and services which is violated through the state finance. In the meantime, the contractual relation of the parties is basically the same as the contract or agreement in general; the contract is binding on the parties such as laws in a lawful relationship and obligations.

In the Republic of Tatarstan (RT), as in the Russian Federation (RF), tuberculosis is the leading nosological form in the structure of occupational diseases (OD) from the effects of biological factors. Although tuberculosis, as a disease, is most common among medical workers (MW) of anti-tuberculosis institutions (80%), the remaining 20% of MW with diagnosed occupational tuberculosis are employees of the Bureau of Forensic Medical Service, neuropsychiatric institutions, and the Federal Penitentiary Service. The study aims to analyze the results of a sample with the tuberculosis recombinant allergen (TRA) "Diaskintest" in employees of the Bureau of Forensic Medical Service (FMS) for screening tuberculosis infection at periodic medical examination. Scientists conducted the study of the employees of the FMS Bureau by staging an intradermal sample with the drug "Diaskintest" (DST) in the conditions of a general medical network in the city of Kazan based on the State Autonomous Health Institution "City Polyclinic No. 18". The first stage of the study was the analysis of the results of tuberculin diagnostics using DST under the clinical recommendations "Latent tuberculosis infection (LTI) in children". The second stage of the study, prospectively, using a continuous method, taking into account contraindications to all employees responding to the TRA, conducted a comprehensive examination using computed tomography of the chest organs (CT CO) to exclude the tuberculosis process. We examined 64 employees of the Republican Bureau of the Forensic Medical Service of the Ministry of Health, Republic of Tatarstan, for tuberculosis infection with a breakdown of the TRA. The number of positive samples was 40 (62.5%), a negative result had 24 employees. In addition, the researchers conducted X-ray computed tomography of the chest organs. As a result, we diagnosed active tuberculosis in 4 employees, tuberculosis of questionable activity in 5, metatuberculous changes in 11 people, latent tuberculosis infection (without focal changes according to CT CO) in 14 people. We recommend using a skin test with the allergen tuberculosis recombinant DST at a periodic medical examination for the timely diagnosis of tuberculosis in the staff of the forensic medical examination.

For the past five years, Dr. Jason Ware has centered community-based research and service-learning courses around local community partners’ needs as they focused collectively on community well-being issues. The nature of their work has prioritized qualitative research methods such as narrative inquiry via in-depth interviews and ethnography via immersive observations within varying service-providing institutions such as the Hartford Hub and the Hanna Community Center. COVID-19 and the constant threat of its transmission meant that Dr. Ware, his students, and their community partners had to approach their work differently. They responded with a pivot. They turned to mining large publicly accessible and proprietary data sets, such as United States Census data, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data, the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data, and the Polk Directory data. The pivot served as a direct response to the City of Lafayette’s need for useful data that could inform decision-making related to neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, and homelessness intervention. This different approach impacted the co-authors’ learning and scholarly development and provided the community partners with useful data. The co-authors experienced increased autonomy in pursuing data-specific questions, extracting data, analyzing, and visualizing it. One of the co-authors taught himself Python to import, statistically analyze, and visualize the data, and then presented the findings to the City of Lafayette. The co-author’s initial work — a pilot study — led to a scaled-up project that resulted in five significant outputs for three different community partners with a direct impact on six neighborhoods in the north end of Lafayette. Another co-author, who focused on scholarship during the pandemic, led an effort to develop a comprehensive literature review focused on the effect of community-based robotics programs on minority youth. The co-author also had presentations accepted at the local, national, and international levels while working on multiple publications. The third co-author is partnering with the other authors to create an automated system that will support the collection, extraction, and analysis of secondary data that will facilitate sustainable data analysis into the future.

Abstract The paper impacts the current debate on governance system in Poland upon Europeanisation in terms of co-creation of public services at urban and regional level. In this context, it can be a part of a discussion on challenges related to cities’ and regions’ transition from industrial economy, society, city and government, to creative and knowledge-based ones. Due to its dynamic and vibrant character, the item can be also implemented into the debate on social and economic strengths in order to solving urgent problems in cities and city-regions linking to innovation in governance. Its clue is the concept of co-creation, which occupies an important space in the current study of European integration. However, the starting point for the considerations contained in the paper is the observation, that while it is commonly accepted that the co-creation of services with citizens and other non-governmental actors seems to be the most effective action to answer to the need for new social innovations and the growing demand for personalised services, the research agenda linked to this has investigated this aspect regarding Eastern and Central Europe not in an enough extensive way. In this regards, the paper can contribute to the field. The aim of the paper is to present the results of the general review of key sources concerning existing knowledge in the field of co-creation in Poland, both in domestic science and institutional practice. In the paper author confronted the EU concepts of co-creation of public services, whereby the basis of this approach was the participation of stakeholders in the decision-making processes as a crucial element of co-governance. In the paper a local case study will be discussed on the basis of social housing policy in Wrocław, the 4th biggest city in Poland. The proposed paper is a part of the international research performed upon the project “Co-Creation of Public Innovation in Europe” (acronym “CoSIE”) financed upon Horizon 2020.

The motivation came from an offer of cashback when shopping, the prices given by tenants who work with OVO are cheaper and help the community to reduce direct interaction with people in transactions during the pandemic. The people’s interest came from their desires, the needs of the digital era like today, and encouragement from their family and co-workers. The experience so far is still very good, judging from the attitude of the informants, who are happy, and satisfied with the existence of this OVO digital transaction service. The people expect that OVO can collaborate more with tenants at malls, SMEs, and shopping places that do not yet provide digital transactions, as well as provide an official office in Manado, increase promos, and provide more payment features according to user needs, and educate the people of Manado City to switch to digital transactions.

Abstract This article proposes a multilevel bike-sharing assessment framework based on the concept of public value. This approach makes it possible to combine customer satisfaction with the transport service system with determinants of demand for bicycle services in the form of value. The framework aims to evaluate the parameters of public bike systems (PBS) that determine user value, and that co-create user value, system value, and social and ecological value, to identify the characteristics of the bicycle that need improvement in order to meet users’ needs and optimize quality. The framework uses empirical verification through satisfaction surveys of PBS users in Lodz, Poland. The results of the study were subjected to factor analysis, which revealed four groups of factors that satisfy public bike users: (1) impact on the health, environment, mobility and traffic in the city, (2) reliability, and comfort, (3) intramodality, (4) price and technical availability.

Purpose Pre- and post-immigration trauma and stress make refugees a particularly vulnerable group in terms of mental health and well-being. The purpose of this paper is to describe a listening project undertaken in Plymouth, UK, which sought the views of 17 service users (n=12) and staff (n=5) from four local support organisations, for people with refugee and asylum seeker status and those with diverse cultural backgrounds. Aims of the project were to expand Western-centric understandings regarding beneficial support and the promotion of good mental health and well-being in this population. Design/methodology/approach Responses were subjected to thematic analysis, co-conducted with a service user. Participants were asked about their personal understandings of mental health and well-being and what supports or hinders well-being. Findings The findings enabled the development of a model incorporating 10 threads which support and 9 holes that can hinder well-being. Research limitations/implications The relatively small numbers of participants compared with the numbers of asylum seekers and refugees in Plymouth may not be fully representative of the general population in Plymouth and the UK. Originality/value Despite increasing cultural diversity within the UK population, available mental health services exist mainly as developed from a Western psychological model of mental distress and treatment. This research provides services with a more informed understanding of mental health for asylum seekers and refugees. As such it is of value towards future service design in Plymouth and the UK. Findings also contributed to a successful funding bid to set up a peer-led support project in the city.

Objectives: Older people living with HIV (PLWH) have higher rates of multimorbidity, polypharmacy and an associated increased risk of potential drug–drug interactions (DDIs). We describe the development, implementation and evaluation of an intervention to increase community prescribers’ access to specialist prescribing advice. Methods: Phase One: a survey evaluating General Practitioners’ (GPs’) knowledge of, and confidence detecting DDIs affecting PLWH, was circulated to eight General Practices in one UK city. Phase Two: co-production was used to develop the THINK ARV intervention for prescribers in city-wide General Practices: a dedicated mobile phone and e-mail advice service staffed by HIV specialist pharmacists. Queries were audited for 6 months pre- and post-intervention. A user-satisfaction survey was emailed to enquirers. Results: Phase One: 42 GPs responded, of whom 62% requested further support identifying DDIs among PLWH. Phase Two: the number of queries received increased from 25 (6 months before ‘THINK ARV’ launch) to 63 in the following 6 months (152% increase). 94% of the queries were specifically about DDIs. Conclusions: Increasing community prescribers’ access to specialist telephone and e-mail advice resulted in increased awareness and detection of DDIs. Similar interventions could be embedded within different healthcare settings to optimise medicines and avoid potential patient harm.

This study, using the smart city case of Korea (the evolution from ubiquitous to smart cities) in the recent decade, suggests conditions of successful governance for smart cities. U-City as a preceding version of smart cities in Korea failed to reflect not only ideas and opinions but also wants, needs, and desires of citizens because its vision did not emerge from citizens. Rather, the nation-driven top-down initiative sought to make technology-driven changes in city services, as the term “ubiquitous” hints. However, smart cities do not lie only in the dimension of technology. To make a city smart, city governments should focus on selected problems facing constraints of budget and resources, seeking for a small and open government. Citizens are required to play multiple roles: e.g., a co-producer of city services, a watchdog of city policies and administration, and a champion of city brands.

Unfortunately, the City of Medan does not yet have a centralized, adequate, and complete car modification place. These factors are the reason for designing the Automotive Modification Center in Medan, a place or facility that provides all kinds of modifications and standard services expected to make it easier for people to channel their hobbies without being hindered by existing facilities. The application of Hi-tech architecture in this design is applied to the circulation system and building facade. With the revitalization of the Koek & Co building to become an automotive modification center, it is hoped to educate the public about the Koek & Co building’s history. Over the last three decades, Windhoek, Namibia has grown substantially. In line with the general urban growth, Windhoek’s informal settlements have expanded, making it ever more pressing to secure basic services and suitable housing for residents of these settlements. This paper, drawing from the author’s PhD completed at the University of Manchester in 2013, documents how one social movement, the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), has challenged and collaborated with the City of Windhoek to improve living conditions. The analysis draws on varied data sources – including extensive interviews with government and federation representatives, the SDFN’s own data, and maps showing the spatial transformation of the city – to trace the recent history of co-production in Windhoek. The continuing marginalization of the city’s informal settlement dwellers points to a need for reimagining Windhoek’s residential development and integrating this into planning, as well as working with social movements like the SDFN to ensure that reforms are grounded in local realities and reflect the aspirations of those on the city’s northwest fringe.

This article discusses the distinctive characteristics of the development of smart city technolo- gies, which swept over all the continents of the planet during the fourth industrial revolution. The author focuses on the consideration of the socio-political effects due to the introduction of these technologies and, above all, the new threats and challenges that they generate. These include the increase of technological inequality, the danger of complete control of information and the tightening of the space of an individual’s personal freedom, social disunity and degradation of urban communities. The technological breakthrough was in clear contradiction with the dynamics of social development. One of the possible ways to overcome the problem of social and techno- logical inequality is with the concept of a smart city focused on sustainable development, which offers an integrated approach to urban policy. The general conclusion that the author comes to is the need for balanced consideration of all components in smart city development projects, in addition to technological and service components. At the same time, the formation of a space for equal social communication, the institutionalization of urban communities, as well as co-social planning for the development of the urban ecosystem are of particular importance. Only if they are fully implemented can we hope for positive dynamics in overcoming new social and political challenges to urban development in the era of total digitalization.

The sustainable development of smart community is the key to China’s grassroots governance and also the general trend of China’s urban modernization. In the supervision of the smart community, the optimization of the behavior of the regulatory subject cannot be separated. Previous studies have focused more on how subjects participate in supervision and less on the behavior of stakeholders in the game. This paper analyzes the game behavior of regulatory participants in the process of sustainable development of smart community and studies the optimization strategy of regulatory behavior according to the game behavior logic among participants. The results show the following. (i) Government behavior plays a leading role in supervision. (ii) When the government invests resources in the screening of third-party evaluation agencies and service purchase and mainly adopts policy punishment methods for stakeholders with rent-seeking behavior, the probability of regulatory participation stakeholders’ positive behavior is the greatest. (iii) The improvements should be made from the aspects of information network construction, the refinement of reward and punishment measures, and the improvement of evaluation party access rules. This not only helps to enhance the good supervision situation of the supervision enthusiasm of the participants but also can realize the self-discipline operation of the smart community and enhance the responsibility consciousness of the evaluation institutions.

Cities constitute three quarters of global energy consumption and the built environment is responsible for significant use of final energy (62%) and greenhouse gas emissions (55%). Energy has now become a strategic issue for local authorities (LAs) and can offer savings when budget cuts have threatened the provision of core services. Progressive LAs are exploring energy savings and carbon reduction opportunities as part of the sustainable and smart city agenda. This paper explores the role of citizens in smart city development as “buildings don’t use energy: people do”. Citizens have the potential to shape transitions towards smart and sustainable futures. This paper contributes to the growing evidence base of citizen engagement in low carbon smart cities by presenting novel insights and practical lessons on how citizen engagement can help in smart city development through co-creation with a focus on energy in the built environment. A case study of Nottingham in the UK, a leading smart city, is analysed using Arnstein’s Ladder of Citizen Participation. Nottingham City Council (NCC) has pledged to keep “citizens at the heart” of its plans. This paper discusses learnings from two EU funded Horizon 2020 projects, REMOURBAN (REgeneration MOdel for accelerating the smart URBAN transformation) and eTEACHER, both of which aimed to empower citizens to reduce energy consumption and co-create smart solutions. Although these two projects are diverse in approaches and contexts, what unites them is a focus on citizen engagement, both face to face and digital. REMOURBAN has seen a “whole house” approach to retrofit in vulnerable communities to improve liveability through energy efficiency. User interaction and co-creation in eTEACHER has provided specifications for technical design of an energy saving App for buildings. eTEACHER findings reflect users’ energy needs, understanding of control interfaces, motivations for change and own creative ideas. Citizens were made co-creators in eTEACHER from the beginning through regular communication. In REMOURBAN, citizens had a role in the procurement and bidding process to influence retrofit project proposals. Findings can help LAs to engage demographically diverse citizens across a variety of buildings and communities for low carbon smart city development.

Two socio-dynamics were identified in the observed roles: the first one, named Victimized Bond System (VBS), assumes that most of the responsibility of the events belongs to third parties, involving expectation, guilt, scapegoating and consequent social exclusion; and the so-called Citizen Bond System (CBS), which attributes co-responsibility, involving dialogue and negotiation in search of viable solutions and generating social inclusion. VBS was proved less efficient in overcoming challenges and the socionomic intervention facilitated a transition from VBS to CBS.

William Waldorf Astor hosted a dinner for fifty politicians and financiers at Delmonico’s in 1889 to discuss how to get the upcoming World’s Fair held in New York City. Although money was no object for the banquet—Astor was soon to be named the richest man in the world—chef Charles Ranhofer was unable to procure canvasback ducks, an expensive game dish often served at such elegant occasions of the Gilded Age. Nevertheless, Ranhofer prepared one of his finest banquets, adjusting the order of service to highlight the Pâté de Foie Gras, Bellevue, a special cold dish that he rarely made. The menus were crafted by Tiffany & Co., each an individual, hand-painted work of art, inscribed with the name of the diner. In the end, the US Congress awarded the Columbian Exposition to Chicago, but the power brokers of the two cities maintained good relationships after the competition.

With the growing urbanisation phenomenon, ambitious policy interventions are needed to limit transport-related greenhouse gas emissions in urban areas. Cities are a predominant source of pollution, with urban transport contributing significantly to emissions. To address climate change, decision-makers must implement appropriate and effective mitigation instruments. This literature review focuses on the different approaches and supporting measures of urban transport land-use planning, such as mixed-used zoning plans and the compact city approach. These solutions can increase the modal shift towards zero emissions transport options. They can also reduce reliance on private vehicles and bring co-benefits and positive externalities to urban residents. Many barriers exist for policymakers, such as financial limitations or institutional immobility. Nevertheless, innovative approaches such as Artificial Intelligence and Mobility-as-a-service provide new perspectives for policymakers and can be helpful in the fight against climate change.

The current study was applied in Al-Zafaraniya area southeast of the capital Baghdad from October 2021 to April 2022. This is to evaluate some heavy elements (Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, and Mn) in the street, storm, and suspended dust. Four sampling sites were selected, and codes A, B, C, and D were given to represent the industrial activity sites, service workshops, business activity, and residential areas. The results showed that the concentration rates of elements (Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn) in street dust samples were (1.15, 6.6, 60.15, 26770, 44.4, 6, 489.8). In storm dust (2, 10, 49.3, 54760, 24.3, 827.2) ppm, respectively, the results of suspended dust revealed that the general rates of element concentrations were (0.707, 3.546, 3.727, 83.204, 1.076, 8.706) μg/m3, respectively. The results also showed the frequency of the appearance of the same elements and different concentrations in the three types of dust. They also indicate that each other interacted in increasing and continuing to expose the city atmosphere to the air loaded with hazardous metals to the health of human society and the components of the city's ecosystem. It can also be concluded from the values and variations of the elements that there are several environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity, air currents, local and regional storm surges, and irregular distribution of vegetation, can be attributed to the main reason in the deference values of heavy elements and their presence in the street, storm and suspended dust

The objective of this paper is to evaluate whether the low-carbon transport strategy (subway, rapid transit bus system -Macrobús-, trolleybus, and shared bicycles) implemented in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG) from 2000 to 2019 improves air quality. Sustainable urban mobility is the movement of people in cities in a way that generates the least impact on the environment. We analyze three actions of government intervention in the same sense. This is the first study for Guadalajara, the third-largest city in Mexico. We use robust Newey-West estimators and endogenously model pollution disruptions using the Bai Perron approach. Our results suggest that this type of public transport reduces SO2, NO2, O3, and CO, though we find an increase in PM10. We also identified that when the service of the first line of the Bus Rapid Transit was consolidated CO, O3 and PM10 decreased. In addition, the improvement in the connectivity of the bus network with the subway means that only NO2 diminished. Finally, the entry into operation of the shared bicycle program reduced PM10, while increasing O3 and in SO2. In short, sustainable urban mobility is an alternative to making the transit of people efficient, while mitigating air pollution in the AMG.

European cities are getting smarter. Smart technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Everything (IoE), and other AI-based technologies, are being injected more directly into the lives of citizens. Smart cities are seen as evolving ecosystems in which multiple actors act, react and interact over time to foster innovative solutions and provide better services for citizens. Despite the growing interest, existing research has to make key advances, important gaps persist as scholars lag behind theoretical development and rarely take into account the most important element of a city: people. Business and management scholars have focused on how to define strategies in smart cities, local policy, and others investigated the challenges of building a smart city. Few concerns deal with humans. In addressing these shortcomings, we tried to highlight why any smart city should be a community that learns, adapts, co-creates, and innovates. The purpose of this study is to investigate the human perspective that goes beyond the focus on technology related to smart cities in Europe, through an analysis in depth on how and how much citizens make cities smart. The focus is on people and their well-being combined with the shared knowledge and development that arises from each player in the ecosystem. To get an overall vision of the people-centric smart city we carry out an exploratory literature review with a PRISMA protocol that guides the identification of the studies to be included in the review. We finally provide implications for scholars and practitioners and suggest future research opportunities.

The purpose of this paper is to help better understand pre-service training for inclusive preschool teachers in China; to grasp the research context, evolution research hotspots and trends of pre-service training for inclusive preschool teachers in China. In this paper, we use the scientific quantitative knowledge graph method and using Cite Space visualization software to analyze 111 studies from 2009-2023 in CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) databases, Such as literature publication trend graph and analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, keyword clustering analysis, research hotspot analysis and research prospects. The results show that the current hot research on pre-service training for inclusive education teachers is mainly focused on: pre-service training for inclusive education literacy of preschool teachers (it includes the research of the concept, connotation, status quo and pre-service training of preschool inclusive education teachers); pre-service talent cultivation models for inclusive early childhood education and design of inclusive early childhood education course; future research on inclusive education for pre-service preschool teachers can actively explore three aspects: First, according to the China’s policy requirements for the training of inclusive teachers in colleges and universities, the preschool education major must clarify the pre-service training plan for preschool inclusive teachers. Secondly, it should analyze the social needs for preschool inclusive teachers and develop and design pre-service preschool inclusive education courses. Finally, pay attention to pre-service practice inclusive education and improve the pre-school inclusive education pre-service curriculum system.

Will someone please think of the children? W.C. Fields has been notoriously associated with the warning "never to work with children and animals." And he was right! Both varieties of co-performers are guaranteed to steal the show from any adult in the general vicinity. It is generally accepted that commercials with a cute puppy and a Sarah Mclachlan soundtrack, or a baby amid famine and natural disaster is much more likely tug at heartstrings and garner cash donations than a city planner with a spreadsheet and a clip board. Consequently, the "adorable baby" cliché can be found everywhere from sitcoms to advertisements for products as diverse as healthcare, luxury brand cars, and banking securities services.

The city of Johannesburg is the largest metropolitan municipality out of eight in South Africa. It is notorious for its high levels of crime, with a crime index of 80.72 and a safety index of 19.28. This article examines crime prevention co-production in the Johannesburg metropolitan area. The purpose of the study was to analyse how co-production of crime prevention is organised in Johannesburg and to understand the effectiveness of the practice there. Collaborations between the regular producers (police) and citizens were assessed to fully determine the potential of crime prevention co-production. This led to qualitative interviews with 20 police officers from 10 police stations in the Johannesburg metropolitan area. A citizen survey was conducted with a selected sample from the population (n = 400) residing in the neighbourhoods covered by the police stations investigated. The findings indicate that police officers have devised practices and programmes to co-produce crime prevention. These include the sharing of pamphlets and crime prevention education and awareness during school visitations, the use of Zello technology, community police forums, and information sharing at the youth desk and in WhatsApp groups. Nevertheless, these practices do not seem to be popular among the citizens. There is a contradiction in the perception of successful crime prevention co-production between citizens and the police. This is mainly due to citizens’ lack of trust in the police. The study acknowledged the importance of the work carried out by the police in crime prevention co-production but also observed the citizens’ lack of trust in the police as a potential threat to crime prevention co-production. Trust is crucial in managing information sharing on crime prevention. Front line professionals, such as the police, will not be able to meet future crime challenges if there is a trust deficit. Hence, it is important to restore trust in the work carried out by the police. Professionals in public administration could learn about the importance of trust in their crucial role of implementing policies, government programmes, and service delivery.

Within the scholarly debate, Urban Agriculture (UA) has been widely acknowledged to provide diverse environmental and socio-cultural ecosystem services (ESs) for cities. However, the question of whether these potential benefits are also recognized as such by the involved societal groups on the ground has not yet been investigated. This paper aims at (1) assessing the perceived ESs of UA, comparing the views of different societal groups in the city of Bologna, Italy (namely: UA project leaders, stakeholders and the general public) and (2) to identify differences in the evaluation of specific UA types (indoor farming, high-tech greenhouses, peri-urban farms, community-supported agriculture, community rooftop garden and urban co-op). In total, 406 individuals evaluated 25 ESs via a standardized Likert-scale survey. The study unveiled similarities and divergences of perceptions among the different societal groups. The statistical analysis indicated that the general public and UA stakeholders agree on the high relevance of socio-cultural ESs, while provisioning ESs was considered as less significant. UA types focusing on social innovation were expected to provide higher socio-cultural ESs whereas peri-urban activities were more closely linked to habitat ESs. We assume that involvement and knowledge of UA are determining factors for valuing the provision of ESs through UA, which needs to be considered for ES valuation, particularly in a policymaking context.
