Corynespora causes leaf fall disease in rubber plants. Control can be done with bio fungicides and potassium fertilizer. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of essential oils and potassium fertilizer in controlling rubber leaf fall disease. The research was conducted from January to December 2018 in Landak Regency, West Kalimantan. The study used a randomized block design with 13 treatments repeated 3 times. The treatment is without biofungicide and KCl, citronella oil + (KCl 250 g, 312.5 g, and KCl 375 g), clove oil + (KCl 250 g, 312.5 g, and 375 g), liquid smoke + (KCl 250 g, 312.5 g, and 375 g), chemical fungicides (mancozeb) + (KCl 250 g, 312.5 g, and 375 g). The results showed that citronella oil, clove oil, and liquid smoke had the same inhibitory power as chemical fungicides. The combination of citronella oil with fertilizer KCl 312.5 g/plant/year and clove oil with KCl 375 g/plant/year can reduce the intensity of Corynospora attack up to 7.33% with inhibition of rubber leaf fall disease reaching 90.09% and can maintain yield of 28.1-28.3 g/tapping (94.33%). KCl fertilizer increased the lignin content of rubber leaves by 22.63%.

The potential of floating cultivation in lebak swampland, particularly during flood periods, is underscored by this study. Composted aquatic weeds, a rich source of organic matter, are a key component of this potential. The study measures the nutrient content in the compost and chicken manure and analyzes the effect of both on the nutrient content in floating systems. The compost and chicken manure, with their slightly acidic pH and very high organic-C content, hold significant promise. The best-growing medium, a blend of compost (375 g) and chicken manure (375 g), demonstrates optimal pH and organic-C content. Soil treatment (500 g) and compost (250 g) show the most significant effect on eggplant plant height, while the best yield is obtained from the treatment of compost (375 g) and chicken manure (375 g).

The experiment was carried out at the Germplasm Centre of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the fruiting season of 2005-06 to investigate the effects of fertilizer and its installment of application on harvesting time, yield and quality of fruits of 8 years old mango plant cv. Amrapali. Four fertilizer doses i.e. T1 : 50% of the fertilizer dose (cowdung 12.5 kg, urea 375 g, TSP200g, MoP125 g, gypsum 125 g and zinc sulphate 7.5 g per plant), T2 : 100% of the fertilizer dose (cowdung 25 kg, urea 750 g, TSP400 g, MoP 250 g, gypsum 250 g and zinc sulphate 15 g per plant), T3 : 150% of the fertilizer dose (cowdung 37.5 kg, urea 1125 g, TSP 600 g, MoP 375 g, gypsum 375 g and zinc sulphate 22.5 g per plant), and T4 : control (no fertilizer) and three splits of application i.e. A1 : One installment (whole fertilizer applied on 15 September), A2 : Two installments (15 September and 15 March) and A3 : Three installments (15 September, 15 March and 15 May) were included as treatments. Plants receiving 150% of the fertilizer dose in three installments caused delayed harvest by 11 days compared to control than that of the control. Plants treated with 150% of fertilizer dose in combination with three installments produced the highest number of fruits (96/ plant) as well as the highest yield (19.55 kg/plant) as compared to control (23/ plant and 3.48 kg/plant). Applying fertilizer at 150% of the fertilizer dose in three installments improved the fruit quality with regard to TSS, pH, titratable acidity, vitamin C, moisture content, dry matter content, reducing sugar, non reducing sugar and total sugar content over control. Thus, this treatment may be recommended for fertilizer management in mango cultivation. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjar.v37i2.11231 Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 37(2): 279-293, June 2012

This experiment sought to establish the response to increasing levels of coconut oil (CO) supplementation with a fixed 0·50:0·50 forage:concentrate diet on intake, digestibility and methane (CH4) emissions. Sixteen continental cross beef heifers (mean starting weight 481±36 kg) were assigned randomly to one of four levels of CO; 0 g/day, 125 g/day, 250 g/day or 375 g/day in an incomplete (three periods) multiple (no. =4) Latin-square design experiment (no. =12 per treatment). A linear reduction in CH4 output occurred as the level of CO in the diet increased ( P<0·001) with the greatest reduction at the 375 g/day level (394, 341, 314 and 240 l/day for animals fed 0, 125, 250 and 375 g/day CO, respectively). As the level of CO increased dry-matter (DM) intake (DMI) decreased, however these differences were only statistically significant at the 375 g/day level ( P <0·001). The proportional reduction in CH4 output was greater than the proportional reduction in DMI and hence CH4 l/kg DMI decreased from 39·8 l/kg when no CO was given to 29·7 l/kg when 375 g/day CO was given. The addition of CO to the diet resulted in a significant decline in dry-matter digestibility (DMD) at the 375 g/day level (P<0·05). These data demonstrate that the inclusion of CO at levels from 0·013 to 0·045 of the dietary DM within a 0·50:0·50 silage and concentrate ration reduces CH4 production with no adverse effect on DMI or DMD up to the 250 g/day level (0·027 of dietary DM).

These treatments were laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates. Data collected were subjected to analysis of variance using the Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) package, after which means were separated using Duncan?s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results showed that treatment combinations of Primextra at 1.5 Kg ha-1 + one SHW at 6 WAS, two hoe weedings at 3 and 6 WAS, Primextra + Aminicome at 2.0 + 2.0 kg ha-1 and Primextra + Guard force at 2.0 + 0.05 kg ha-1 gave effective weed control, higher grain yield and cash returns. They are therefore recommended for application in rotation by farmers in Malete.

The present study was conducted at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Regional Research Station, Bawal, Haryana (India). The larvae of castor semilooper remain active from 30th standard weeks to 47th standard weeks. The maximum larval population was recorded on the 32th standard week (6.1 larvae per plant) and 38th standard meteorological weeks (6.2 larvae per plant) due the high rainfall, 158 and 120 mm, during these weeks, respectively. Correlation indicates that minimum temperature, evening relative humidity and rainfall exhibited a positive relationship (r- 0.588, 0.577 and 0.650) with the larval population. Bio-efficacy of four insecticides with different doses was tested against A. janata infesting castor crop. One day after spraying thiodicarb @ 468 g proved best toxicant followed by thiodicarb @ 375 g, deltamethrin @ 11.2 g, deltamethrin @ 10.5 g, quinalphos @ 250 g, quinalphos @ 200 g, novaluron @ 100 g and novaluron @ 75 g. At three days after spraying, it was found that novaluron @ 100 g was the most effective followed by novaluron @ 75 g, thiodicarb @ 468 g, deltamethrin @ 11.2 g, thiodicarb @ 375 g, deltamethrin @ 10.5 g, quinalphos @ 250 g and quinalphos @ 200 g. At seven days after spraying novaluron @ 100 g proved to be best toxicant followed by novaluron @ 75 g, thiodicarb @ 468 g, thiodicarb @ 375 g, deltamethrin @ 11.2 g, deltamethrin @ 10.5 g, quinalphos @ 250 g and quinalphos @ 200 g. Novaluron 100 g was the overall most effective with 75.97 mean per cent reduction in larval population.

The present study focuses on the degree to which an innovative GCSE course (the OCR Pilot GCSE in Geography) acted as a basis for active and innovative learning. Using a holistic framework intertwining curriculum, learning and assessment, a collaborative action research approach was used to develop an active and innovative learning environment, focusing on the work of two groups of GCSE students following the Pilot GCSE course. A conscious adoption of personalised learning approaches, linked to a radical notion of the nature and content of geography and an alternative assessment regime, led to the development of a course founded on the integrated use of information and communication technology alongside independent learning approaches. These developments in active engagement were based on student perceptions of their own preferences with regards to learning and assessment. The action research took place over three cycles, and the results demonstrate that with the curriculum approach inherent in the Pilot GCSE specification, the development of active learning and authentic assessment opportunities were not only possible, but in keeping with the philosophy of the course. There is less evidence that the emerging classroom pedagogy allowed students to deepen their investigation of geography, although there is some qualitative evidence for this.

Danis, Omer Molood. "The development of the tourism industry in Libya". Thesis, University of Huddersfield, 2006. http://eprints.hud.ac.uk/id/eprint/372/.

Resumo:
Libya is a country with a rich heritage in terms of culture, archaeological and historical sites, and a long Mediterranean coastline of sandy beaches. However, unlike the neighbouring countries of Tunisia and Egypt, which have similar attractions and which have capitalised upon these to develop successful tourist industries, Libya has not devoted its efforts to expand in this area, and this is partly a reflection of the fact that Libya has been an oil economy for the last forty years, and there has been no real need to attempt diversification of the economy on a grand scale; and partly a result of the political isolation of Libya as a result of UN and US sanctions. However, in recent years, the overreliance on oil revenues, and the potential of tourism to contribute substantially towards the economy, have encouraged the government to look towards tourism as a way to sustain the economy in the long term, and consequently, moves have been made to launch Libya as a tourist destination, especially since the lifting of the international sanctions mentioned. This study has focused on the efforts to date by Libya to refocus its economic strategy, and after reviewing the relevant literature, the researcher constructed three research instruments for use during fieldwork in Libya with different populations, in an attempt to establish the current status of the Libyan tourism industry. A questionnaire survey to establish demographic information about international tourists, and levels of satisfaction with the Libyan tourism product overall, was carried out with 282 tourists to Libya. An interview exercise was conducted with tourism administrators, and two indepth interviews were held with the UnderSecretary of State for Tourism Affairs, and the UnderSecretary of State for Education and Training Affairs, respectively. The tourist data was analysed using SPSS and crosstabulations were performed in order to identify the background of tourists (country of origin, age, sex, tourist behaviour) and their predispositions and opinions, by sex and age, on a range of dimensions within the two broader aspects of Accommodation, and Tourism Attractions. The findings reveal that women in general are less critical of Libya’s tourism product than men, and that tourists in the older age groups, who have a greater experience of travel, are more realistic in their expectations of what a developing country can offer to tourists. However, whilst Libya has immense potential as a tourist destination, with the possibility of offering several different tourist products, thereby being of interest to various market segments, it is currently unable to pursue these opportunities because of shortcomings in tourist infrastructure, in particular its lack of accommodation, tourist information, and service quality. What is currently being delivered to tourists is a substandard product which begins and ends with bureaucratic procedures at entry/exit points to the country, and which is characterised by an experience in between that reflects the lack of planning. The thesis concludes that a proper planning framework, which includes appropriate levels of investment, is necessary for a tourism industry in Libya to thrive and contribute towards the economy to the extent that the government hopes, and envisages.

The Grand Sonata in G Major, Op.37, composed by Tchaikovsky, is a powerful large-scale composition and a piece of a symphonic scope. However, the sonata did not receive a desired acclaim in the modern repertoire partially due to an obvious lack of performance instructions in the existing editions, which makes the sonata challenging to perform. Thus, in order to reduce the technical challenges and to encourage more frequent performances of the sonata, this dissertation offers a performer's guide that addresses essential elements of pedal indications, phrasing and detailed dynamics, as well as suggestions on voice balancing, agogics, fingering, and hand redistribution. The guide consists of musical examples that are focused on the most challenging sections of the sonata, and is organized in the subsections according to a technique type proposed to facilitate a performance of the sonata. In addition to the examples on application of individual techniques presented in the main body of the dissertation, alternative and more elaborate versions of the suggestions are proposed in the appendices. The dissertation also provides a history of the sonata, and discusses its concept and symphonic principles. Additionally, the work highlights Tchaikovsky's piano style and describes his views on the art of piano performance. A special attention is also given to two musical references repeatedly embedded into the sonata: the bell-like sonorities and Dies irae melody.

The aim of this PhD is to draw together two very different strands of rural geography, namely: young people and partnerships. Partnerships and young people have been the subject of growing debate and, although there is interest in both areas, there has been little work carried out that combines the two to date. The aim of this thesis is to address that gap by studying one particular partnership, part of whose remit was to address issues and concerns of the rural young. Young people, despite initiatives such as youth councils, and youth fora, still operate in the shadows of the decision-making process and, as such, do not enjoy full participation; they are occupying a world in which adults still make decisions on their behalf. This is exacerbated by the fact that the decisions that are made are done so from an adult, rather than a young person’s, perspective. Considered from this position all young people, not just those in groups considered to be socially disadvantaged, are excluded by virtue of their youth and their powerlessness in an adult world. Partnerships, that is a group of public, private and voluntary actors working to a shared goal or goals, should have the capacity to overcome this lack of participation, as a significant portion of the partnership rhetoric is based upon integrating voices from the ‘top’ and the ‘bottom’. Hailed as the new form of governance, such collaborative partnerships are being increasingly utilised to deliver goods and services that were previously the exclusive domain of local government. Nevertheless, in their turn, partnerships are also vulnerable to issues of power, conflict and accusations of ineffective working practices. The thesis examines these two disparate groups through a study of one such partnership. However, despite the emphasis on ‘bottom-up’ input, this particular partnership did not have direct representation from the young. This compromised not only its ability to draw young people’s voices into political debate, but also problematised, from a research point of view, the ability to gauge how effective integrative approaches really are. This was overcome by drawing on action research as a methodology which, in effect, situated the researcher between both parties; on the one hand, acting, as far as an adult can, as a ‘voice’ for the young, and on the other, as a researcher, in a position to follow the partnership and gauge the success of integrative approaches to policy-making. Through a combination of focus group discussions and self-completed questionnaires, key findings are: although young people do not see themselves as deprived, they experience exclusion through a paucity of rural services that is exacerbated by their geographical position along a continuum of rurality; young people are not a homogeneous group - although incremental differences in age may be small, the physical and social needs of a 12 year old or a 14 year old are significantly different which, when overlooked by planners, results in the creation of inappropriate facilities; young people exercise power over each other through their own social codes and practices that excludes some groups either socially or spatially; that there is a considerable amount of intergenerational suspicion that is embedded in the cultural practices of adult/child relations. These findings, and more, were reported to the partnership, which, although unable to implement change itself, was able to provide a springboard from which to broadcast the concerns of the young and one particular concern, inadequate transport, was eventually brought into policy recommendations. The results suggest that, although the effectiveness of the partnership was hampered by the fluidity of its membership and the delay in creating a strategic framework, it was its ability to network, during and even post-partnership, that was its greatest strength. The thesis concludes with suggestions for further research.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky(1840-1893), a remarkable Russian musician in the 19th century whose works are still popular and beloved today, achieved a perfect marriage of Western compositional technique and Russian national heritage. Among Tchaikovsky’s solo piano works, The Seasons, Op. 37a and Children's Album, Op. 39 are two of the most-performed characteristic pieces, while Grand Sonata in G Major, Op. 37 is representative of the composer’s large-scale works. He employed established Western forms and harmony without compromising his individuality by unobtrusively weaving dance tunes with Russian folk songs into this magnificent composition. The four-movement Sonata with an approximate 35-minute performing time is “grand” in both its structure and texture. The composer attempts to “symphonize” the piano piece, creating the sound effects of an orchestra on the piano. This effect, along with the level of virtuosity demanded in performance, makes the sonata truly deserve its “grand” title.

Resumo:
Abstract Lentil (Lens culinaris L. Medik.) is an important cool-season food legume but is a poor competitor to weeds because of a slow early growth rate. If weeds are left uncontrolled, they can reduce yield by up to 50%. Sensitivity of lentil to post-emergence herbicides warrants development of herbicide-tolerant cultivars. In the absence of natural variability, mutation breeding is a powerful tool to create variability for desired traits. Thus, 1000 seeds of a lentil genotype, LL1203, were exposed to gamma radiation (300 Gy, 60Co) with the objective to induce herbicide tolerance. Seeds of all 530 surviving M1 plants were harvested individually and divided in two parts to raise the M2 generation in two different plots. Each plot was sprayed with imazethapyr (75 g/ha) and metribuzin (250 g/ha) herbicides 50 days after sowing, using water at 375 l/ha. Data on herbicide tolerance for individual M2 plants were recorded after 14 days of herbicide spray on a 1-5 scale, where 1 = highly tolerant (plants free from chlorosis or wilting) and 5 = highly sensitive (leaves and tender branches completely burnt). For herbicide-tolerant M2 plants, data were also recorded for pod and yield per plant. None of the M2 plants showed a high level of tolerance to imazethapyr. However, 14 mutants having higher herbicide tolerance to metribuzin were selected. Two mutants ('LL1203-MM10', 'LL1203-MM7') recorded < 2.0 score, while six mutants recorded < 2.50 score as compared with the 3.13 score of the parent variety. The pods per plant and seed yield per plant of mutants 'LL1203-MM7' (383 and 12.4 g) and 'LL1203-MM10' (347 and 12.1 g) were higher than those of the parent genotype LL1203 (253 and 7.8 g). The study indicated that metribuzin-tolerant mutants have some other desirable traits that can be of use in lentil breeding.

In Chapter 4, G. Barbieri, F. Cerniglia, G. F. Gori, and P. Lattarulo provide a general overview of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) with a focus on the investment needs to ensure an ecological transition. The NRRP contains six missions, of which Mission 2 is specifically dedicated to the ecological transition (approximately 59.5 billion euros); however further resources for the transition are also available in other Missions under climate objectives. In total, the available resources are around 71.7 billion euros. This means that out of the total funding allocated to the NRRP (191 billion euros), 37.5% is dedicated to green investment, which is slightly above the minimum threshold set by the EU. In absolute terms, because of the size of the Italian NRRP, this is by far the most significant investment out of all the EU countries. The NRRP is a huge gamble for the future of Italy due to the sheer number of resources involved, the deep structural lags that must be overcome, and the major political consensus needed on the overall objectives and/or missions.

Resumo:
In [1], we patented the innovative pulse-detonation steam superheater (PDSS) for deep oxygen-free and pollutant-free gasification of organic municipal and industrial wastes to produce a gas mixture of H2 and CO. The PDSS is essentially the pulse-detonation engine operating on the ternary fuel-oxygen-steam mixture with fuel represented, e. g., by a gas mixture of H2 and CO (energy gas or syngas). The low-temperature steam (375-380 K) is produced by a standard steam generator. Pulsed detonations in the PDSS are achieved due to intermittent spark ignition of the fuel-oxygen mixture followed by fast deflagration-to-detonation transition and transmission of the detonation wave to the ternary fuel-oxygen-steam mixture. It is implied that the PDSS is directly connected to the waste gasification flow reactor and normally operates on the H2-CO energy gas. However, for starting the plant, the PDSS initially operates on any available hydrocarbon fuel or hydrogen.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the staple food for Sri Lankans, and it serves as a key source of essential mineral elements. The variation of grain nutrient concentrations as affected by genetic factors (variety, grain color and age group) are not known, and those were tested in the current study. Total of 200 rice grain samples were collected using a stratified random sampling approach, representing all agro-climatic zones in Sri Lanka. Grain nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) concentrations were measured using Kjeldahl, Colorimetric, and General methods, respectively. Grain N P and K concentrations were significantly different among rice varieties (P<0.1). Grain N concentration varied between 4-19 mg g−1 . The highest grain N concentration was recorded in Bg 307 (14 mg g−1 ) while the lowest (i.e., < 10 mg g−1 ) in Bg 367, Bg 374, Bg 358, Bg 310 and Bg 379-2. Grain P concentration varied in the range 0.6- 1.7 mg g−1 . Grain P concentration in At 406 was the highest (1.6 mg g-1), followed by Bg 307, Bg 94-1, Bg 367 i.e., >1.3 mg g-1 and the lowest in Bg 403, Ld 365 and Bg 310 i.e., < 1 mg g−1 . Bg 357, Ld 365, Bg 406, Ld 368 and Bg 310 rice varieties showed significantly lower P concentration than other varieties (P<0.1) Grain N, P and K concentrations were similar among different age classes of rice varieties (P>0.05). Moreover, grain N and P concentrations between the red and white grain varieties were similar (P>0.05). However, varieties with white color grains had higher K concentration than in red rice varieties. There was a significant correlation between grain P and K concentrations (r =0.496, P<0.001). This information would be useful when selecting rice varieties with high and low nutritional qualities and implementing sustainable nutrient management practices in rice-based cropping systems in Sri Lanka. Silica based catalyst was prepared from geothermal sludge – solid waste from geothermal exploration - of Dieng Power Station, Central Java, Indonesia. The catalyst was prepared by extracting silica compound from the sludge matrix, followed by sulfonation to obtain sulfonated – solid catalyst. Catalyst sample analysis informed the catalyst was generally amorphous in structures, possessed surface area between 76 – 81 m2/g, with acidity approximately 5-6 mmol/g. Evaluation on catalyst activity was performed by applying it on sago starch hydrolysis - atmospheric pressure and 100 – 150°C (373 – 423 K) - in which more than 90 % conversion could be achieved.

Activated carbon is one of the most effective materials for removing a wide range of contaminants from water, e.g., industrial and municipal wastewater. In this paper, physical (steam) activation of peach pit biochar obtained from a biomass gasification power plant is explored. Activation experiments were carried out at various temperatures, steam flow rates, and activation times. The initial biochar and activated biochar samples have been analyzed for porosity, chemical composition and surface morphology. From the porosity analyses it was determined that the raw biochar had a surface area in the order of 1 m2/g, whereas the activated samples had surface areas ranging from 379 m2/g to nearly 600 m2/g. The burn off ranged from 29 % to 56 %. Energy wise, the biochar sample processed for the shortest time with the lowest flow rate had the largest ratio of surface area-to-consumed energy.

An experimental and numerical study of a tangential gas injection effect on a flow pattern and heat flux was carried out. The cooling gas (air) was injected in the flow (air) through the tangential axis-symmetric slot on the spherically blunted cylinder streamlined longitudinally. Experiments were conducted in TsAGI shock wind tunnel at free-stream Mach number M∞ = 6, Reynolds number Re∞, Rw = 0.76×106 (calculated for free-stream parameters and bluntness radius Rw = 37.5 mm), cylinder angle of attack α = 0…30°, slot width h* = hk/Rw = 0–0.021, free-stream stagnation temperature T0 = 710 K, pressure behind the normal shock ps = 0.5 bar. The mass rate of the injected gas G* = gj/πρ∞u∞rw2 = 0…0.12. It is shown, that maximum of the heat flux toward the sphere surface could be sufficiently decreased. For example, for coolant mass rate G* = 0.03 and angle of attack α = 0 the heat flux maximum is reduced by factor of two.

Resumo:
The map area lies about 40 km northwest of Baffinland's iron mine. Dykes of unit mAnA3 within unit mAnA2 suggest that unit mAnA2 predates unit mAnA3. Unit nAMqf, basal Mary River Group unit, includes regolith material from units mAnA2 and mAnA3. Unit mAnAm may include some dykes of unit nAMb. The Mary River Group was deposited in a volcanic-arc environment, yielding zircon U-Pb ages mostly in the range of 2.88 to 2.72 Ga. Iron-formation (unit nAMi) is approximately 276 m thick locally, with oxide facies (unit nAMio) being most abundant. The quartzite triangle west of 'Iron lake' (unofficial name) may be a small horst. The main east-west-trending synclinal fold, including the area around 'Iron lake' and the no. 4 ore deposit, is upright, nearly isoclinal, and plunges mostly easterly at both ends with small scale anticlines and synclines in the middle. Magnetite constitutes about 75% of high-grade iron deposits in the north limb, whereas hematite predominates in south-limb deposits. K-Ar and Rb-Sr ages indicate middle Paleoproterozoic overprinting. Central Borden Fault Zone was active at ca. 1.27 Ga and during or after Ordovician time. Note: please be aware that the information contained in CGM 408 is based on legacy data from the 1960-1990s and that it has been superseded by regional-scale information contained in CGM 403.
