Teaching ethics to accounting students is a challenge for lecturers. Lack of knowledge on how to teach ethics and limited references to ethics teaching materials are examples of obstacles to teaching ethics. The film has been an exciting learning resource in accounting courses, which is a fun way to learn and full of value. This study is a preexperimental study to determine the effectiveness of using film media to convey ethical material to students majoring in Accounting, Politeknik Negeri Malang. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Based on the results of this experiment, 32 students stated that there were moral values that were learned from watching films. In contrast, 17 people indicated that they had learned other things such as cases of economic crisis and the application of the material in class to real life. Based on these results, films could be used as an alternative to teaching ethics to accounting students. This study offered a reference for accounting lecturers the ways to use film in accounting classes and samples of discussion and assignments in using film as a teaching resource. The result of this study could be a reference in renewing the curriculum to insert film as a learning resource, also to consider other learning resources.

The aim of present paper is to investigate the psychological outcomes of 21st century Pakistani movies on viewers. The most important four outcomes are as following: (a) Violent behavior (b) Sensuality and Depression (c) Stereotypes (d) Misconception about Islam and Pakistani culture. By psychologically examining the theme of the film, we can take a look at the producer’s psychological methods and analyze the performance of the theme in the film. This paper is psychological analysis of five film themes and their carriage in productions. The films under analysis are Khuda Kay Liay (2007), Bol (2011), Bin Roye(2015), Malik (2016) Waar (2013). A sputtered FePt(BN, Re, C) film, here boron nitride (BN), was compared to a reference sample FePt(BN, Ag, C). Intrinsically, these films illustrate a high anisotropy field (Hk) and perpendicular magnetocrystalline anisotropy (Ku),although the reference sample shows a higher value (Hk = 69.5 kOe, Ku = 1.74 × 107 erg/cm3) than the FePt(BN, Re, C) film (Hk = 66.9 kOe, Ku = 1.46 × 107 erg/cm3). However, the small difference in the anisotropy constant (K2/K1) ratio presents a close tendency in the angular dependence of the switching field. Extrinsically, the out-of-plane coercivity for the reference sample is 32 kOe, which is also higher than the FePt(BN, Re, C) film (Hc = 27 kOe), and both films present lower remanence (Mr(parallel)/Mr(perpendicular) = 0.08~0.12), that is, the index for perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The higher perpendicular magnetization for both films was due to highly (001) textured FePt films, which was also evidenced by the tight rocking width of 4.1°/3.0° for (001)/(002) X-ray diffraction peaks, respectively, and high-enough ordering degree. The reference sample was measured to have a higher ordering degree (S = 0.84) than FePt(BN, Re, C) (S = 0.63). As a result, the Ag segregant shows stronger ability to promote the ordering of the FePt film; however, the FePt(BN, Re, C) film still has comparable magnetic properties without Ag doping. From the surface and elemental composition analysis, the metallic Re atoms found in the FePt lattice result in a strong spin–orbital coupling between transition metal Fe (3d electron) and heavy metals (Re, Pt) (5d electron) and we conducted high magnetocrystalline anisotropy (Ku). Above is the explanation that the lower-ordered FePt(BN, Re, C) film still has high-enough Ku and out-of-plane Hc. Regarding the microstructure, both the reference sample and FePt(BN, Re, C) show granular structure and columnar grains, and the respective average grain size and distributions are 6.60 nm (12.5%) and 11.2 nm (15.9%). The average widths of the grain boundaries and the aspect ratio of the columnar grain height are 2.05 nm, 1.00 nm, 2.35 nm, and 1.70 nm, respectively.

For protection against leaching of the electrolyte reservoir of a solid state reference electrode a porous covering film was prepared and characterized. The porous covering film is based on a glass matrix composite and fired at 400 °C according to the thick-film-based structure of the reference electrode. Based on stability investigations on low sintering glasses in the range of pH 1.68 to pH 9.18 and in various concentrated potassium chloride solutions, a suitable zinc borate glass was selected. Using this glass and Al2O3 or ZrO2 oxide powders, various glass matrix composites were prepared and their sintering behavior was investigated in dependence on the amount of crystalline fraction up to 45 vol%. The shrinkage was measured by heating microscopy of powder compacts of cylindrical shape. In addition composite films on ZrO2 substrates screen-printed and at 400 °C fired were characterized in terms of their porosity by means of micro structural analysis and electrochemical deposition of copper. According to these investigations, suitable composites were selected as porous covering materials for the reference electrode and were tested therefore. The electrochemical characterization showed that the solid-state reference electrodes with porous covering films have a very good performance compared to conventional reference electrodes.

Movie “Coco”. Color grading is one of the important factors in the cinematography of a film. The atmosphere in a film can be formed with different coloring for each scene so that it can build the right atmosphere. This research was conducted to identify the color scheme in color grading as a mood builder in Pixar’s animated film “Coco”, using a qualitative approach, and descriptive method. Data collection comes from various visual sources and library references. From this research, it is concluded that the color scheme in color grading in Pixar’s animated film “Coco” successfully builds the audience’s mood by using different color schemes for each scene. The color schemes that are often used in the animated film are derivatives of orange, blue, and purple. The results of research journals on color grading as a mood builder in Pixar’s animated film “Coco” are expected to be one of the reference sources or references, especially textual studies on color grading. This research journal is also expected to contribute as a reference development study in multimedia, using an approach regarding color schemes as mood builders in a film. The present work concerns the back-scattered electron image contrast of a thin film of Cu64Mo36 on a silicon substrate. The contrast is defined by the ratio(1)where If and Ib are the backscattered electron signals from the film and from an adjacent bulk reference specimen. In previous work on thin sputtered films of Cu-Mo, Cu-W and Cu-Al both the film and the bulk reference specimen were perpendicular to the incident electron beam. It was found that the dependence of r on the accelerating voltage of the electron beam could be used to obtain both the thickness and the composition of the films. It is the purpose of the present work to determine whether the simple method previously used to extract the required information can be extended to include tilted specimens. As will be seen the method can be adapted to films tilted by less than 50°.

In recent years historical film production or historical films — Historical Film, Historical Movie, Historical Cinema—have become increasingly massive in Indonesia. In its development, historical films in Indonesia are a massive medium to present a past that deserves to be remembered as a collective memory of society. Since the reform era, dozens of historical film titles have been produced and colouring the Indonesian film industry. As a result, many historical films have become references and reference sources for the community to find information about the past. It becomes reasonable to see the development of multimedia-based information technology (audiovisual) which has encouraged the emergence of post-literacy phenomena. In historical studies, historical films can be studied as a thematic study as well as in a methodological realm. As a thematic study, historical films are mental products (mentifact) and social products (sociofact) of society in a certain space of time. Whereas in the methodological realm, historical films can be explored through debates about historical sources or as narratives and representations of the past presented through film media. The study of historical films as a study of history is still a rare and less desirable subject for historians in Indonesia. This paper utilizes literature studies to answer some of the research problems posed. Literature studies of sources related to historical film studies are the focus of the researchers. In addition, a deeper understanding of the development of historical films in Indonesia is also a concern to uncover the souls of the times that surround historical film production. This study concludes that the existence of historical films in the present is a challenge for historians to face the era of openness and variety of media that presents information about the past.

Every time you watch a soap opera, a documentary dies,” says a character in the Italian comedy “Tuttelovogliono” (2015). The context in which this character makes the statement highlights the educational role of documentaries, compared to the first genre of film production. But first of all, what is a documentary? The special nature of this kind of film in general, as well as the use of photographic images and sound recordings in particular, have proven difficult to conceptualize by reference to the distinction fiction film/non-fiction film. There is also terminological confusion caused by different uses of the term “documentary” and the phrase “non-fiction film”. “Latosensu”, we can attest to instructional non-fiction films, product promotion films, historical documentaries or biographical films.

In the essay, the author, Łukasz Ronduda, relates his own work as an artist, a film director, an art historian and curator, discussed in the light of the cinematic turn and the formation of common ground between cinema and contemporary art in both artistic and institutional sense. Ronduda looks closely at his two full-length feature films: Performer (2015) and Serce miłości (Heart of Love) (2017) and highlights their wider context. The first frame of reference spans from experimental films to contemporary full-length productions dedicated to wide audience. The second reference is his own work involving academic research, curating, writing a novel and the creation of a found footage film. In this self-presentation, Ronduda discloses his different attempts to find the right medium to speak about and analyze contemporary art. The full-length film turned out to be particularly effective medium in its ability to express the truth by means of fiction, placing him between creation and institutional structure. Film as a medium of interpreting art seems to productively question fixed boundaries between research, criticism and art.

Women exert only a modicum of production power in 21st century cinema despite its growing accessibility and spectatorship through the developing technologies of the digital era. In 2007, of the top 250 grossing films in Hollywood, only 10% were written, and 6% directed, by women, and just 16% contained leading female protagonists. Why, after the gains of the film feminist movement, is there such a significant gender imbalance in mainstream film, and an imbalance that is only increasing over time? More significantly, what are the possibilities and limitations for reel woman’s subjectivity and agency, in and on screen, in this male-dominated landscape? As a female filmmaker in this current climate I conduct an autoethnographical scriptwriting-based investigation into female subjectivity and agency, by writing the feature length screenplay Float, which is both the dramatic experiment and the creative outcome of this research. The exegesis works symbiotically with my scriptwriting journey by outlining the broader contexts surrounding women filmmakers and their female representations. In this self-reflexive examination, I use an interdisciplinary methodology to unravel the overt and latent sites of resistance for reel woman today on three interdependent levels. These comprise the historical, political and philosophical background to woman’s treatment both behind, and in front of, the camera; my lived experiences as an emerging writer/director as I write Float; and my representation of the screenplay’s central female character. I use the multiple logic of screenplay diegesis to explore the issues that have a bearing on women’s ability to be active agents in the world they inhabit, including: the dichotomising of female desire, the influence of familial history, the repression of the mother, the dominance of the male gaze, the disavowal of female specificity, and women’s consequent dislocation from their self-determined desire. These obstacles are simultaneously negotiated as I map my process of writing Float and deal with the challenging contexts in which the screenplay was created. In the course of my scriptwriting investigation, film feminist and French poststructuralist paradigms are considered and negotiated as I experiment whether it is possible for female filmmakers, and their female characters, to overcome the seemingly insurmountable odds facing women’s actualisation today. My research brings to light the critical need for more inclusive modes of practice across the film industry, discourse and pedagogy that are cognisant and respectful of reel women’s difference, and allow them to explore their own specificity. The thesis argues that it would be advantageous for female filmmakers to challenge their ‘fixed’ status in phallocentric discourse, and to deconstruct their patriarchal conditioning through engagement with forms of identity and writing resistance that recognise the fluidity of their subjectivity, and the consequent potential for change. I also highlight the importance of an accessible and affirmative feminist cinema pertinent to the 21st century, to integrate feminist ideals into the mainstream, and finally bring reel woman out of the margins.

A protocol of establishing radiochromic film based reference dosimetry for high dose rate Ir-192 brachytherapy source was assessed and described. A comparison between calibration curves created in water and Solid Water are provided. Solid Water was shown to be a viable alternative to water in establishing calibration curve for Ir-192 radiation beam. A Monte Carlo correction factor was calculated to convert the dose to water into dose to Solid Water and the experimental methods that we performed agreed with the Monte Carlo results where the ratio (DSW/DW)Ir-192 was found to be 0.9808 ± 0.14% (1σ). EBT-2 GAFCHROMIC film model was also investigated for absorption properties and found to be a less sensitive than its predecessor (EBT-1) in terms of net change of absorbance, but that did not affect the dosimetric value that this film possesses. A dose error assessment method has been described for EBT-2 film model (and is applicable to other types as well) that can establish the time error constraints on the post-irradiation scanning time that will still provide an acceptable dose error for clinical applications if the protocol employing the shorter post-irradiation scanning time is implemented in the clinic. We show that for two post-irradiation scanning times of 30 minutes and 24 hours the 1% dose error can be granted if the scanning time window is less than ± 5 minutes and ± 2 hours, respectively. Performance of EBT-2 model was also evaluated in water and it was concluded that a suggested correction protocol is necessary for immersion times that exceed 2 hours. This correction was tested with the calibration curve created from water setup and found to be effective when compared to the dose-corrected calibration curve in Solid Water.
Un protocole d'établir film radiochromique dosimétrie de référence en fonction de débit de dose élevé source Ir-192 curiethérapie été évalués et décrits. Une comparaison entre les courbes d'étalonnage créé dans l'eau et Solid WaterTM sont fournis. Solid WaterTM s'est révélée être une alternative viable à l'eau dans l'établissement de la courbe d'étalonnage pour les Ir-192 faisceau de rayonnement. Nous montrons que pour deux post-irradiation de numérisation fois de 30 minutes et 24 heures, la dose d'erreur de 1% peut être accordée si la fenêtre de temps de balayage est inférieure à ± 5 minutes et de ± 2 heures, respectivement. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This dissertation is supplementing a documentary film entitled Captor and Captive – the story of Danger Ashipala and Johan van der Mescht (2010), referred to as Captor and Captive, with a duration of 52-minutes. The film follows the story of two soldiers caught up in the disorganized machine of war. Johan van der Mescht, a South African Defence Force (SADF) soldier was captured in 1978 by Danger Ashipala, a South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) guerilla fighting for Namibian independence. Van der Mescht was held as a prisoner of war (POW) in Angola before being exchanged for a Russian spy, Aleksei Koslov, at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin in 1982. The main focus of the dissertation is to provide an analysis of representing history through film, with reference to Captor and Captive. It explores the manner in which history can be represented through the medium of film and add value to historical text, as well as historical text adding value to film, and how the two mediums can supplement each other. In this instance, Captor and Captive was produced first and the research conducted was used to inform the dissertation. It briefly discusses the history of documentary film within South Africa; the reality of producing documentary films reflecting on Captor and Captive and the theoretical principles involved in the craft of documentary filmmaking. The dissertation further provides details of the capture of Van der Mescht and his experience as a POW in Angola, against the backdrop of the Border War that waged between 1966 and 1989 in South West Africa (SWA) and Angola. The political landscape and various forces at work within southern Africa during the period of Van der Mescht’s capture are discussed. It also provides detail of the role of Van der Mescht’s captor Ashipala, and the liberation movement SWAPO. With independence in 1990, South West Africa became Namibia and will be referred to as such for the purpose of the dissertation. Mention will be made of other POWs during the Border War, providing a brief comparative analysis of their respective experiences.

This thesis consists of a text and a videotape, entitled Pull Ourselves Up or Die Out. The written thesis is an examination of the tradition of documentary film making with particular reference to notions of Realism, particularly as revealed in the ethnographic films made by John Marshall. The Marshall material spans a period from 1951 to the present day and relates the changes that the !Kung Bushman of Namibia have been forced to undergo. The material is unique and this thesis elaborates on the conditions and influences that have determined the film maker's strongly personal approach. The videotape that accompanies this thesis is 3/4 inch U-Matic, 25 minutes long, color, sound and. in English, Afrikaans and Ju/Wasi languages.

In this project a new type of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensor for biosensing was investigated. With the use of a porous gold film as aninternal reference electrode, measurements of pH were performed in liquid. This new approach for liquid measurements demands new methods andstudies to increase the conductivity and adhesion in liquid of the porous gold film. The films have been deposited, either by sputtering orevaporation. Extensive studies included the investigation of depositions parameters on film structure and investigating the film morphology. Thesurface structure was studied with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). pH measurements were preformed with promising results. The adhesionof the electrode was greatly improved by using grains of titanium underneath the gold film. This new approach could lead to new applications anddevices for MOS sensors and its sensor relatives.

While documentary films featuring indigenous people have a long history and include ethnographic films made under educational or scientific auspices, many films about indigenous people have been prone to projection by filmmakers, particularly those with little in depth knowledge of their film subjects. People labeled ‘Bushmen’ have, more than any other indigenous people, been portrayed in documentaries in ways which relate more to the fantasies of the filmmaker and those of his or her culture than to the people at the other end of the camera. In order to investigate this problem, this dissertation employs both an audio-visual component and a written exegesis. The latter considers the problem by examining the evolution of the work of iconic ethnographic filmmaker, John Marshall who, during fifty years of filming the Ju/’hoansi (a.k.a. Kalahari Bushmen), tirelessly invented creative solutions to reduce his own projections and present more truthful and accurate representations of the people in his films. This exegesis introduces issues of projection and archetype in documentary and discusses historical examples of the ‘Bushman myth’ in documentary before analyzing the evolution of Marshall’s filmmaking career in the Kalahari and his efforts to counter the myth. Throughout the exegesis reference is made to the impact of Marshall’s ideas and philosophy of flmmaking on my own practice.

This dissertation analyses millennial film adaptations of five of Shakespeare's plays with a specific focus on a selection of different kinds of film. These are William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999: Dir. Michael Hoffman), 10 Things I Hate About You (1999: Dir. Gil Junger), Hamlet (2000: Dir. Michael Almereyda), Titus (1999: Dir. Julie Taymor), and Scotland, PA (2001: Dir. Billy Morrissette). The films covered include both box office and independent, textually close to Shakespeare's words or not, all totally different from each other. This thesis contextualises these film adaptations within the realm of film studies, music theory, Shakespeare performance theory, critical theory and popular culture. Rather than analysing each Shakespearean film adaptation purely on an aesthetic level, my dissertation will identify and analyse each director's

AbstractAs well as taking stock of the existing literature on film and history, this chapter aims to develop a terminological apparatus for describing the conceptual core of the historical film. The first section makes reference to a classic semiological model according to which a film’s production of meaning is determined by its specific arrangement of signs. It draws parallels to debates within historical studies that have enabled a reassessment of fiction film as a historiographical medium and mode of conceptualizing history. Building on these considerations, the second section posits a genre of popular fiction film defined by its referential relation to historical events, individuals, and lifeworlds. The third section argues that this is less a matter of incontrovertible factual accuracy than of generating a feeling of authenticity.

AbstractThis chapter provides insight into the development of streaming-related release strategies during the Covid-19 pandemic, with particular reference to the European market. I am particularly interested in the relationship between streaming platforms and theatrical cinema exhibitors, a relationship that is often described in terms of conflict and tension. For some in the industry, streaming platforms are perceived as a threat to the theatrical cinema sector. For others in the industry, streaming platforms are symptomatic of the way that the modern era of film exhibition is taking shape, with different distribution systems co-existing to enable different routes to market for different films. This chapter draws on trade press and news coverage to analyse how the relationship between streaming platforms and cinema exhibitors developed during the pandemic. What sort of release strategies for films became common when lockdowns and other policy restrictions were imposed on cinema exhibitors? How did changing circumstances impact release windows for films, and in particular the theatrical cinema window? And has the pandemic brought about structural changes to the film distribution and exhibition businesses in Europe and beyond?

Squeeze film dampers (SFDs) are used in the high speed turbomachinery industry as a means to reduce vibration amplitude, provide damping, and improve dynamic stability of the rotor bearing system. Past numerical studies analyzing SFDs, have been computationally expensive and time consuming. The present study investigates the feasibility of applying a steady state solver to obtain computational efficiency while ensuring that the parameters of interest are captured. This is done via the application of the Moving Reference Frame (MRF) solver in ANSYS® Fluent. A steady state solver in an absolute frame of reference was used to produce whirling motion of the rotor. The results are validated by comparison to the experimental data of Delgado [1]. The numerical model shows good agreement with these results.

Surface stress changes associated with hybridization of surface immobilized DNA molecules are measured. A novel interferometry technique employing two adjacent micromachined cantilevers a sensing/reference pair is used to measure the surface stress development. Measurement approach relies on coating the sensing cantilever with single stranded DNA (30-mer Adenine (poly A)) and reference cantilever with hybridized DNA. The sensing/reference pair is exposed to varying concentrations of complimentary DNA strand (30-mer Thymine (Poly T)) and differential deflection of sensing cantilever with respect to reference is measured to determine the change in surface stress. Experimental results indicate that surface stress develops only on exposure to complimentary strands (specific binding) and is not affected by exposure to other single stranded DNA (non-specific binding). Varying the poly T concentration from 0.1 to 1.0 μM results in a linear increase of the surface stress changes from 40 to 110 mN/m during DNA hybridization. Surface stress development starts as soon as the complementary poly T is introduced in the fluid cell and reaches a stable value within 15 minutes of injection time.

In the present work, a numerical study on a novel shaped film-cooling hole has been performed. The novel shaped hole is designed to enhance lateral spreading of coolant on the cooling surface. The film-cooling performance of the novel shaped hole is compared with the fan, laidback fan, and dumbbell shaped film-cooling holes at density ratio of 1.75 in the range of blowing ratio from 0.5 to 2.5. The optimization of the novel shaped hole has been carried out to increase film-cooling effectiveness with four design variables, i.e., lateral expansion of the diffuser, forward expansion angle of the hole, length to diameter ratio of the hole, and pitch to diameter ratio of the hole. To optimize the hole shape, the radial basis neural network model is constructed and sequential quadratic programming is used to find optimal point from the surrogate model. The novel shaped hole shows remarkably improved film-cooling performance in comparison with the other film-cooling holes. The novel shaped hole modified by the optimization gives enhanced performance in comparison with the reference geometry.

In this study, the thermal conductivity of a bismuth-telluride (Bi2Te3) thin film is measured at room temperature by using the 3ω method [1, 2]. The 3ω method for thin films uses a single metal-line as both the heater and thermometer. An alternating-current driving current at angular frequency ω heats the surface of the sample at a frequency of 2ω. Since the resistance of a metal increases with temperature, temperature oscillations produce an oscillation of the electrical resistance at a frequency of 2ω. Consequently, the voltage drop across the metal line has a small component at 3ω that can be used to measure the temperature oscillations and the thermal response of the sample with a Bismuth-telluride thin film. Differential amplifiers are used to subtract the ω component of the voltage for the measurement of the small 3ω signal as shown in Fig.1. The amplified 3ω component and the attenuated reference voltage are acquired to a personal computer through a 16bit DAC card. The bismuth-telluride thin films are manufactured by flash evaporation and coating. The narrow Aluminum lines for the 3ω method are made by vacuum deposition through metal masks. The measured temperature oscillation ΔT versus ln(ω) yields the thermal conductivity of the substrates. The thermal conductivity of the glass is measured as 0.97 W/(m·K), and that of alumina is 15.4 W/(m·K). These results agree well with the reference data. The thermal conductivities of Bismuth-telluride thin films are calculated from the measured thermal resistances of the films. The measured value for a flash evaporated Bismuth-telluride is 1.20 W/(m·K), and the coated film is 0.51 W/(m·K).

The article presents Polish-German film relations in the framework of Nazis cultural diplomacy between 1933 and 1939. The Nazi effort to create a cultural hegemony through the unification of the European film market under German leadership serves as an important point of reference. On the example of the Polish-German relationship, the article analyses the Nazi “soft power” in terms of both its strength and limits. Describing the broader geopolitical context, the article proposes a new trail in the research on both the film milieus and the cinema culture in Poland in the 1930s. In mythological terms, it belongs to cultural diplomacy and adds simultaneously to film history and New Cinema History.

This report refers to the activities performed in the frame of PRCI project on the refinement of the dynamic DC stray current corrosion criteria by applying an advanced DC corrosion prediction model. In order to find realistic stray current interference conditions, an industry survey was performed to retrieve dynamic DC interference signals on real-world pipelines. After analysis of the cases, a simulation matrix was proposed that covers a wide variety of interference conditions. The simulated signals were simplified as squared pulses. The European Standard EN 50162 Protection against corrosion stray current from direct current systems was used a reference for validation. Some other criteria that are currently under investigation have been considered as well. The criteria were validated against simulated corrosion rates. The final goal is achieving a further refinement of the dynamic DC stray current criteria. The simulations demonstrate that current criteria are either not valid, either too conservative when steel tends to passivate under anodic excursions in high pH soil due to the development of a Fe3O4 film. The lowest pH value at which the passive film developed was 10.34 with relatively short cathodic duration (30 sec) and long (50 sec) and strong (-200 mVcse) anodic potential. This Open-File Report makes available data from palynology evaluations completed to determine the age and depositional environment of rock samples collected during geologic investigations funded or partially supported by the Utah Geological Survey (UGS) and the U.S. Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (STATEMAP). Table 1 provides the sample numbers and locations for the palynology data. The reference listed in table 1 provides additional information such as sample location, geologic setting, and interpretation of the samples in the context of the area where they were collected.

This open-file report makes available raw analytical data from laboratory procedures completed to determine the age of rock samples collected during geologic investigations in southwestern Utah by Harry Filkorn (Pierce College, California) in 20182019. Table 1 provides sample identifications, locations, and notes for the age data. The references listed near the end of the document generally provide additional information such as sample location, geologic setting, and significance or interpretation of the samples in the context of the area where they were collected. This report was prepared by NIGL under contract to Filkorn. These data are highly technical in nature and proper interpretation requires considerable training in the applicable geochronologic techniques.

Our knowledge of the trade effects of domestic infrastructure is very limited. The reason is twofold. First, data needed to examine these effects are not readily available. Second, identifying such effects requires properly addressing potential endogeneity problems affecting the relationship between internal infrastructure and trade. In this paper, we overcome these limitations by combining firm-level data with detailed geo-referenced information on Chile and by exploiting the earthquake that took place in this country in 2010 as an exogenous source of variation in available infrastructure and thereby in transport costs. We find that diminished transportation infrastructure had a significant negative impact on firms' exports.
