The new Family Act of the Republic of Serbia establishes normative system in the field of family law matters, which is compatible to the contemporary European laws and practice. This thesis investigates the utility of classification systems of domestic violent men and the need to explore patterns of family violence from a more holistic, family focused perspective. Part I considers the classification of men who abuse their female partner. A literature review is presented which provides support for the Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart (1994) three fold typology of domestic violent men. However, the research is criticised for its narrow focus on the offender and three hypothetical patterns of family violence are presented. Following the review, a classification system of 90 men who murdered their female partner was constructed. The overlap of intimate partner violence with child maltreatment is demonstrated, highlighting the need for a holistic approach to family violence. Part II extends the use of classification systems to explore the co-occurrence of intimate partner violence and child maltreatment within the family, classifying family violence from a more holistic perspective. One hundred and five child maltreatment cases were examined retrospectively. The first study explored and demonstrated characteristic differences between parents who maltreated their child and each other in comparison with parents who perpetrated child maltreatment only. The second study provided evidence for the hypothesised patterns of family violence. This research contributes to the risk assessment literature, in furthering the understanding of violent parents and families. Part III extends the holistic approach to family violence to incorporate the effects that family members can exert upon one another across generations. A mediational analysis of the intergenerational cycle of child maltreatment is presented, using a prospective sample of 4,351 families with newborn children. The presence of three significant risk factors and poor parenting were found to mediate the intergenerational cycle. Additionally, factors of financial solvency and social support were found to playa protective role. A conceptual hierarchical model that considers risk and protective factors in tum is proposed as a method to assess families for potential of child maltreatment. The thesis demonstrates the need for a holistic approach to family violence. The theoretical and practical implications of this research for professionals working with families are discussed.

Up until the 1980s, the police often reluctantly intervened in domestic disputes. However, from the mid 1980s onwards, the introduction of pro-arrest family violence policies throughout the U.S., the U.K., and New Zealand, signalled a significant shift in police practices. It was hoped that the adoption of these policies would help improve the police response to family violence, and it was anticipated that police behaviour would consequently change. Unfortunately, the implementation of these policies has been fraught with difficulties, and they have often not translated easily into practice, or resulted in the intended changes. The current study, which was conducted in Christchurch in 2004, sought to understand how a pro-arrest policy was implemented at the local level. Drawing on a symbolic interactionist approach, and utilising Lipksy's (1980) street-level bureaucracy theory, this research focuses on a number of issues, including the application of the pro-arrest policy at the street-level, and its associated problems, and the legitimate/illegitimate exercise of discretion. This study has found evidence of significant practical problems with the implementation of the pro-arrest policy, which are similar to those that have been reported overseas.

This commentary outlines how my published works have contributed to knowledge on violence against black and minority ethnic (BME) or minority women in the UK, particularly in relation to domestic violence, forced marriage and so called 'honour' based violence (HBV). They help to define and enhance our understanding of these issues. In addition, they have critiqued multiculturalism and influenced, advocated and developed the former Home Office Minister, Mike O'Brien's concept of 'mature multiculturalism' (Parliamentary Debates, 1999; also cited in Home Office, 2000:10), and utilised the theoretical framework of intersectionality (Crenshaw, 1989 and 1991) to address these problems. I have also located my works within the framework of violence against women and girls (VAWG), secularism, equalities and human rights. My publications have reflected upon and influenced policy, practice and research, and as such, contributed to documenting the history and achievements of black feminism.

Violence is an evil that surrounds today's society because Humana beings are violent by naturally due to their Needle to protection and defend themselves. Violence in the EDUCATION field is understood as the intentional harmful action or omission carried out between members of the EDUCATION community (students, teachers, parents, administrative staff, others EDUCATION actors) and which takes place in the physical premises of the Educational Unit (school infrastructures), or in other spaces directly related to the school (around the Educational Unit or places where extracurricular activities are carried out). It is a phenomenon that must be jointly assumed by EDUCATION authorities, teachers, parents, and students themselves who have the right to exercise their voice _ _ establish preventive rather than corrections actions. From an early age, children learn that violence is a brave way to resolve various personal conflicts, especially if they have suffered in the home, either as victims of bullying or as witnesses. Violence is gradually becoming the usual way of expressing different emotional states, such as anger, frustration or fear, a situation that is not limited exclusively to the family, but will invariably drink have reflected in the interaction of each family member with society. The teacher in the EDUCATION field shows the opportunity to identify and even preventively risky situations for students, being able to relationship to the child and his family, thus favoring prevention in the EDUCATION community. The family is very important for the prevention of violence in the EDUCATION system because they become role models for their children.

The study investigates the reasons why women continue to live with an abusive husband and examines the relationship between their reasons and a number of variables that support one’s ability to cope with spousal violence. These variables include employment status, educational level, number of children, marriage duration, the social status of the wife's family and the number of violent incidents. A demographic survey and a spousal violence adaption scale were administered to a sample of 114 abused wives. The results revealed that all of the variables and several of the dimensions represented by the violence adaption scale affected the women’s decisions. The impact of these variables was more obvious among nonworking wives and the lesser educated, women with a greater number of children, those who had been married longer, those who senatal families had a low social status, and those who were subjected to violence more frequently. Keywords: adaptation to violence, marital violence, Saudi Arabia, spousal violence, violence against women in Saudi Arabia, why women stay in violent relationships.

Background: The issue of violence in couple relationships is perceived from the perspective of integrative ecological model, while informal environment of women is considered one of multilateral phenomena influencing women?s strategies when addressing violence in couple relationships. Methods: The objective of the paper is to describe informal environment of women living in violent couple relationships. As many as 44 women participated in the research, aged 22 65. Most of them reached secondary education and almost 60% of them were divorced. Most of them worked full-time, two of them were on retirement pension. Two of them were childless. The data was collected with help of a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview and further processed by the method of qualitative thematic analysis, based on the phenomenological approach. Results: The results show the supporting and hindering factors in informal environment of women living in violent couple relationships. The supporting factors are understanding, support and help provided by all family members. The hindering factors are lack of faith in what women go through, lack of understanding, unwillingness to help, and indifferent attitude of family members. Conclusions: The results show that it is important to recognize the supporting and hindering factors in informal environment of women in violent couple relationships not only when setting up the effective assistance provided by formal or informal helpers, but also when setting up effective strategies for public policies.

Family resilience can be hindered by the existence of violence within the family system. As is true for most parts of the world, domestic violence is prevalent in Moldova. Survivors of violence have an increased risk of experiencing negative health, education, and economic outcomes. In this article, we describe a novel intervention called Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD). ESD is based on the idea that self-defense is not only about learning physical techniques, but also about developing confidence and autonomy as psychological aspects necessary to face challenges, regardless of the circumstances. We explain how implementation of culturally-adapted ESD programs could promote family resilience by shifting social norms and attitudes, and improving outcomes for survivors and families in Moldova, and finally by decreasing rates of violence.

Domestic violence is one of the most serious social problems of modern society. The phenomenon of violence against women persists in all states of the world, regardless of the state’s political, economic, racial or cultural state. Violence against women, including domestic violence, is one of the most serious gender-based human rights violations in Europe, which is still silenced. Many women continue to suffer physical and sexual violence from ex-partners, even after separation, indicating that for many relationships, the end of an abusive relationship does not necessarily mean physical safety. The article advocates argumentatively on the idea that emotional regulation includes several components, including the development of communication and relationship skills, development and naming of emotions, directing or modifying them, so that the individual can achieve the purpose of the actions they carry out.

Review question / Objective: The aim of this scoping review is known what the definition of intimate partner violence is used in the scientific literature. Background: In the scientific literature, intimate partner violence (IPV) has been defined using various terms: aggression, domestic violence, interpersonal violence, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, spousal violence, family violence, etc. (Sprague, 2013; Hamel et al., 2015; O'Hara, 2018, Rahmani et al., 2019). This variety of terminology has hindered a consensus definition, causing a fragmented view of the phenomenon. There are several explanations, one of the main ones being that IPV has been studied by numerous scientific disciplines, each of them associating it with terms specific to its field, focusing on some variables and overshadowing the relevance of others (Nicolás et al. , 2014). Specifically, the term Domestic Violence (DV) and IPV are used interchangeably. However, DV refers to any form of violence perpetrated within a family relationship. It can refer to violence, but also to violence against children or older members of the same family by another family member (Tavoli et al., 2016). It should be noted that the confusion between these terms has been generated since 1993 (Pence & Paymar, 1993) to the present (Bates, 2020).

This Evidence Check examines international and Australian policies, programs and models of practice for integrated, trauma-informed responses for domestic violence, mental health issues and/or alcohol and other drug use and dependence. The reviewers identified the Integrated Domestic Family Violence Service Program as the most consistently sound and quality program and the only one which aligned with all five of system design principles of NSW Health’s Integrated Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (IPARVAN) Framework. Overall, the report looked at what has been effective in supporting delivery of such responses, which policies and programs align with the system design principles set out in the IPARVAN Framework, and the key barriers to and enablers of integrated, trauma-informed responses where domestic and family violence, mental health issues and/or alcohol and other drug use may co-exist.
