Purpose In highly dynamic industries, business processes require exploitation, i.e. activities that are associated with an increase in productivity through automation, standardization, integrated architectures, and the usage of existing IT resources. As a complementary capability, exploration is needed, i.e. the ability to flexibly implement new and innovative IT resources (Lee et al., 2015). The purpose of this paper is to use the concept of ambidexterity, which is researched intensively outside the domain of business processes (e.g. Gibson and Birkinshaw, 2004; Tang and Rai, 2014), to address this paradoxical trade-off within business processes. Design/methodology/approach The paper follows a qualitative approach. A multiple case study comprising 11 interviews and additional document analysis in six organizations is conducted in the German energy sector to examine the proposed framework. Findings This paper shows the importance of balancing exploitative and explorative business process IT (BPIT) capabilities. The process-theoretical outcome of this study is the BPIT Capability Framework that provides explanation for the interaction between exploitation and exploration. Research limitations/implications This study contributes to the understanding of how to build ambidextrous BPIT capabilities by explaining the underlying mechanisms for feedback loops that occur in cases of imbalance. The scope of the conducted study presents a limitation and thus future research is encouraged to further validate the findings of this paper. Originality/value By drilling down to the process level, this paper addresses the gaps that limited empirical studies have in business process management research (Recker and Mendling, 2015) and the focus on business processes that is lacking from the literature on organizational IT management (Gregory et al., 2015).

Les organisations passent parfois soudainement d’une stabilité relative à une situation de rupture. Elles doivent alors être capables de passer de l’exploitation de connaissances et de processus acquis à l’exploration de nouvelles opportunités. Des recherches sur la prévoyance stratégique suggèrent que cette transition constitue un véritable obstacle ontologique et dépend de critères de légitimité et de réflexivité managériale. Une enquête quantitative (N=119) a été menée auprès de dirigeants et cadres. Les résultats montrent que le choix du mode de prévoyance dépend de la nature de l’information mobilisée, de l’orientation temporelle et du sexe des répondants. Ces indications corroborent l’existence d’un obstacle ontologique. Celui-ci semble lié à la difficulté d’envisager l’exploration sous l’angle d’une pratique d’improvisation et d’une implication du bas de la hiérarchie. L’enquête suggèrent également l’importance de la légitimité et de la réflectivité pour l’exploration de nouvelles opportunités.

Since March's 1991 seminal article, exploration and exploitation have been extensively studied in the areas of organisational learning, strategic renewal, and technological innovation [Li et al.(2008)]. However, much of the research has focused on exploration as science-based and exploitation as technology-based. This current research effort utilises a unique database to examine the phenomena only in the science arena. The results are that exploration efforts lead to science outcomes, and that both exploration and exploitation efforts have a positive impact on technological outcomes. The managerial implications of these findings are discussed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the historical contributions of complex innovations (both creative and tactical components) in a formative period in a major Australian department store, David Jones Ltd. Design/methodology/approach The study uses a context-specific lens to examine complex retail innovation. The study adopts a longitudinal design with the focus on a single firm, which met the inclusion criteria. Data collection was predominately from company archival materials and publicly available documents, including newspapers. Findings An in-depth analysis of two complex innovations demonstrates the retailer’s successful management of both marketing exploration (innovation) and marketing exploitation of that innovation. Effective marketing requires operational, tactical marketing exploitation to dovetail marketing exploration. Research limitations/implications The study is limited to one successful department store. Notwithstanding, there are expectations that the lessons extend to many other retailing organizations. Practical implications The practical relevance is clear, with the emphasis on retail innovation (and especially complex innovation) as a basis for both surviving and thriving in an ever-changing marketing environment. Originality/value The use of a complex innovation approach is a novel way of examining marketing history. The study concludes that both marketing exploration and marketing exploitation are essential for retail longevity.

This article contributes to the quality control of digitization workflows, and to the exploitation of historical document collections, by demonstrating the utility of serendipitous exploration (as opposed to targeted searches) through the use of Document Towers, a visual representation of the physical structure of documents as architectural models. The Document Towers are evaluated via a qualitative case study on historical Swiss newspapers, a thought experiment comparing them to alternative solutions, a diagrammatic visual and numeric assessment of exploratory tasks, and several quantitative and empirical usability measurements and psychometric surveys. The experiments confirmed that both serendipitous exploration and the Document Towers visualization are objectively well-suited for the quality control and exploration of digital documents. A significant disparity in subjective usability was observed between librarians and academics, who rated the visualization concept below and above average, respectively. Other findings included the redefinition of quality control as a tool of knowledge and dialogue among stakeholders in information systems; a generic diagrammatic instrument for evaluating the outcomes of explorations; demonstrating how the adoption of novel information technology may benefit from adaptation to individual psychologies and socio-professional contexts; and, unexpectedly, novel historical insights into Swiss map-making, newspaper history, and censorship.

In the information retrieval system, relevance manifestation is pivotal and regularly based on document-term statistics, i.e., term frequency (tf), inverse document frequency (idf), etc. Query term proximity (QTP) within matched documents is mostly under-explored. In this article, a novel information retrieval framework is proposed to promote the documents among all relevant retrieved ones. The relevance estimation is a weighted combination of document statistics and query term statistics, and term-term proximity is simply aggregates of diverse user preferences aspects in query formation, thus adapted into the framework with conventional relevance measures. Intuitively, QTP is exploited to promote the documents for balanced exploitation-exploration, and eventually navigate a search towards goals. The evaluation asserts the usability of QTP measures to balance several seeking tradeoffs, e.g., relevance, novelty, result diversification (coverage, topicality), and overall retrieval. The assessment of user search trails indicates significant growth in a learning outcome (due to novelty).

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to reexamine exploration-exploitation’s reciprocality in organizational ambidexterity (OA) research. OA figures prominently in a variety of organization science phenomena. Introduced as a two-stage model for innovation, theory specifies reciprocal reinforcement between the OA processes of exploration (eR) and exploitation (eT). In this study, the authors argue that previous analyses of OA necessarily neglect this reciprocality in favor of conceptualizations that conform to common statistical techniques. Design/methodology/approach The authors propose joint-variance (JV) as a soluble estimator of exploration–exploitation (eR-eT) reciprocality. An updated systematic literature synthesis yielded K = 50 studies (53 independent samples, N = 11,743) for further testing. Findings Three primary findings are as follows: JV reduced negative confounding, explaining 45 per cent of between-study variance. JV quantified the positive confounding in separate meta-analytic estimates of eR and eT on performance because of double-counting (37.6 per cent), and substantive application of JV to hypothesis testing supported OA theoretical predictions. Research limitations/implications The authors discuss practical consideration for eR-eT reciprocality, as well as theoretical contributions for cohering the OA empirical literature. Practical implications The authors discuss design limitations and JV measurement extensions for the future. Social implications Learning in OA literature has been neglected or underestimated. Originality/value Because reciprocality is theorized, yet absent in current models, existing results represent confounded or biased evidence of the OA’s effect on firm performance. Subsequently, the authors propose JV as a soluble estimator of eR-eT learning modes.

Most percentage of the online data is text document and therefore the optimization of multi-class document classification is becoming a challenge for today society. Traditional search policy for feature selection process is degrading with exhaustive search for complex feature in document classification. Therefore, meta-heuristic based computational search is also becoming good solution to overcome the problem of exhaustive search with exploitation process. The search policy of computational algorithm can provide the global optimal solution with random search approach on both exploitation and exploration process, and the selected search results of feature subsets can support the optimal classification results.

 L’introduction revient sur le terme Homo digitalis et l’analyse à l’aide de la compétence plurilingue pluriculturelle, dont les trois parties suivantes démontrent l’importance à côté de celle de la littératie pour l’exploitation de documents authentiques. La première partie traite du recours aux documents visuels numérisés en classe de grec ancien ; la deuxième d’inscriptions latines et de leur exploitation en classe grâce à l’image numérisée ; la troisième de cinéma italien et de divers supports numérisés qui permettent de l’intégrer dans la formation des élèves. La conclusion propose une réponse à la question initiale.

The paper provides an overview of the main stages and types of exploration works for solid minerals according to the current regulatory documents of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, and also considers the features of accounting for these works in conformity with the requirements of RAS 24/2011 “Accounting for the costs on exploitation of natural resources”, IFRS 6 “Exploration and Assessment of Mineral Reserves” and IAS 36 “Asset Impairment”. According to the results of a comparative analysis of RAS and IFRS, assessment of the methods for reflecting exploration work in the accounting of mining companies, an analysis of their impact on management decisions by stakeholders is carried out. The theoretical and practical significance of the study is to justify the need to develop an alternative methodology for accounting and presentation of accounting information on the results of exploration, based on a phased increase in the reliability of knowledge about subsoil areas. The study is primarily interest to government agencies for improving the legislative regulation of accounting, credit institutions and mining companies in conducting investment analysis of customers and partners.

Au cours des dernières années, on assiste à la montée en puissance d’un discours en faveur de l’intégration des fonctionnalités de l’intelligence artificielle aux pratiques de gestion des documents et des archives. Cela s’inscrit dans une optique d’automatisation de ces pratiques afin d’améliorer la qualité de l’information documentaire et multiplier les opportunités de son exploitation par les usagers, et ce, suivant leurs préoccupations. Cela nous amène à nous interroger sur la possibilité de parler d’un cinquième paradigme archivistique, soit celui de l’automatisation, lequel commande une révision des procédés par lesquels l’information documentaire est créée, traitée, diffusée et préservée à long terme. Sur la base de la cartographie des paradigmes archivistiques établie par Cook (2013), cet article vise à explorer la manière dont l’automatisation peut s’inscrire dans la continuité de ces paradigmes, tout en mettant de l’avant les nouveaux rôles à jouer par les archivistes et les gestionnaires de documents dans ce contexte.

RésumésL’étude des documents et des dossiers des archives d’État à des fins historiques est une procédure familière et courante qui nous permet aujourd’hui de connaître le passé. Néanmoins, les archives de l’État n’ont pas toujours servi à la recherche historique. Le présent article examine tout d’abord la fonction des archives pour l’État et pour la société au xixe siècle en termes de politique gouvernementale. Puis il se demande comment, avant que les archives ne deviennent un instrument de gouvernement et de politique sociale, leurs fonds ont pu être rendus accessibles aux historiens durant la première moitié du xixe siècle. Si les réformes politiques du début du xixe siècle n’ont pas réussi à ancrer institutionnellement l’utilisation historique des archives, la tradition moderne de supplication de l’administration de l’État offrait un moyen conventionnel de concilier l’« exploitation scientifique », politiquement intéressante, du trésor des archives avec le souci du gouvernement de préserver l’intégrité de sa propre sphère obscure et l’impératif du secret. Au cours de diverses actions et communications, une « ouverture des archives » contrôlée administrativement a eu lieu. Surtout – c’est donc la thèse centrale de l’article –, en recourant aux anciennes archives, les historiens ont non seulement acquis des documents et des dossiers, mais aussi un concept juridique spécifique de la vérité fondamentalement attaché aux documents d’archives et qui, par le biais de la preuve juridique, a donné au récit historique un nouveau statut épistémique de la vérité.

<p>Most applications, such as Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing (NLP), utilize document clustering to improve their analysis. The document consists of various features that are utilized to determine the similar and dissimilar documents. However, the traditional techniques consume high computation difficulties and convergence problems while analyzing high-dimensional data. The research difficulties are addressed with the help of Bacterial Foraging and Rough Set Analysis (BF-RSA). This study uses the TF-IDF features for analyzing similar documents. The extracted features are explored using the Bacterial Foraging Optimization (BFO) approach that uses the exploration and exploitation characteristics to improve the overall clustering quality. The collected documents are analyzed using a roughest approach that generates the discernible matrix which helps to identify similar and dissimilar features. Then bacterial foraging method computes the fitness value according to their behavior to identify the optimal solution. The selected feature set is further analyzed in the roughest approximation condition to minimize the uncertainty and interpretability issues. Quoique la gestion forestière multiusages (Gfmu) soit promue par les codes forestiers d'Afrique centrale, cette approche reste mal comprise et peu mise en oeuvre pour les forêts de production et les forêts communautaires. L'article présente les résultats de 62 entretiens avec des personnes impliquées dans la gestion forestière au Cameroun, au Gabon et en République démocratique du Congo, et fait ressortir trois interprétations de la Gfmu : une exploitation durable du bois intégrant secondairement les usages des autres acteurs ; une utilisation coutumière des ressources par les populations locales ; une gestion planifiée et formelle de la diversité des biens et fonctions fournis par ces écosystèmes. L'analyse détaillée de huit études de cas montre en pratique que l'aménagement durable de la forêt se focalise presque toujours sur l'exploitation du bois ; quoique l'utilisation du gibier et la collecte des produits forestiers non ligneux soient systématiquement mentionnés dans les documents d'aménagement. À l'inverse, les services environnementaux - séquestration du carbone, protection des bassins versants - ou les biens publics y sont quasi absents. L'inscription de différents usages dans les documents de gestion ne suffit toutefois pas pour qu'ils soient toujours mis en oeuvre sur le terrain. Trois pistes sont explorées pour renforcer l'application de la Gfmu dans le bassin du Congo : concevoir la Gfmu à l'échelle du paysage et non à celle du massif forestier ; améliorer le contenu des documents d'aménagement forestier pour y inclure et valoriser l'ensemble des usages de la forêt ; renforcer le contrôle de l'application effective des documents de gestion, grâce à la certification ou à un meilleur contrôle du respect de la légalité.

The increased adoption of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) may improve the productivity and cost-effectiveness of remote sensing in the mining industry. This review's objective is to enable stakeholders to identify possible application adoption, improvement, and innovation opportunities. The review merges a building block strategy and practical screening criteria to identify possible avenues of research to answer the review questions. After the screening process, 72 documents were included in the review. Papers were classified into four categories: exploration, development, exploitation, and reclamation. Fifteen applications were identified, the majority of which were in the exploration phase. The most often researched applications were topographic surveys, reclamation monitoring, and slope management. From the two UAV types identified, multi-rotor vehicles were the most favoured for all applications. From the eight remote sensing techniques identified, photogrammetry was the one most often used. Other techniques were limited because of complexity, cost, or the incompatibility of sensors and UAVs. The review was limited to published papers in academic journals. Future studies could aim to include empirical data on the latest UAV applications used in the mining industry.

Ceci est une histoire, l'histoire d'une famille de Brie, la famille Maslé qui pendant un peu plus d'un siècle — de 1655 à 1761 — a exploité (avec quelques interruptions) la ferme qui leur appartenait : la Calabre . A travers elle, nous avons cherché à comprendre les implications de la démographie et des structures familiales sur l'économie d'une petite exploitation. Car la Calabre n'était pas une bien grande ferme : un peu plus de 40 ha, à peu près 80 arpents (mesure du roi) et son sol n'était pas d'une fertilité remarquable. Les Maslé n'étaient pas non plus des gens remarquables ; ils n'appartenaient pas à l'élite sociale, à l'aristocratie des gros laboureurs qui comptent dans leurs rangs de riches marchands, des avocats, des conseillers au Parlement. Ce n'étaient pas non plus de pauvres paysans ; c'étaient des gens moyens et c'est ce qui fait, en partie, leur intérêt. En outre, on dispose de documents nombreux qui les concernent, même si, dans leur abondance, ces sources sont parfois redondantes ou difficiles à interpréter et si certains documents importants restent introuvables.

The book's exploration of the notion of revolution delves deeply into topics of tyranny, exploitation, and poverty. Numerous consequences emerged from the examination of the selected text. Research methodology: Theoretical Framework: Marxist literary theory guided the analysis of the study. Results: This research documents European aggression, economic exploitation of Africans, taxes and forced labor, the degradation of people's humanity, a decrease in human capital, the depths of hunger and poverty, and Africans' reaction and resistance to these terrible conditions. In order to come up with a long-term solution, we need to understand and agree that Africans have been oppressed and treated cruelly in the past. Il est toutefois difficile d’en avoir une vue synthétique car ils sont abordés par les chercheurs et chercheuses au travers de terrains éducatifs, de techniques computationnelles et d’angles d’analyse hétérogènes. Aussi, l’objectif de cet article est de mener une revue systématique de la littérature sur les enjeux éthiques et critiques des SIA-ED afin d’en avoir un meilleur portrait. Une analyse de 58 documents scientifiques nous a amenés à identifier 70 enjeux éthiques et critiques des SIA-ED, que nous avons organisés sous 6 tensions : complexité des situations éducatives vs standardisation technique ; agentivité des acteurs et actrices scolaires vs automatisation technique ; justice scolaire vs rationalité technique ; gouvernance scolaire vs conception technique ; besoin d’intelligibilité des acteurs et actrices scolaires vs opacité technique ; dignité des acteurs et actrices scolaires vs exploitation des données.

Purpose – Collegiate internships play an important role in the development of professionals. They provide students the opportunity to experience real world expectations embedded within actual vocational environments under the support of their collegiate faculty. Although there are a number of common reasons why internships are utilized in each academic area, the requirements for the experiences are substantially different across disciplines and level of coursework. The purpose of this paper is to explore some of the commonalities and differences that exist for internships across collegiate academic disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and identify their salience for programs from an interdisciplinary perspective. Design/methodology/approach – For this conceptual piece, the authors took an introspective qualitative look at both programs and compared and contrasted them based on internally available documentation and information. Although this was theoretical in nature, the authors utilized materials available for certification and accreditation purposes for each of their programs. Multiple data sources were stakeholder interviews and conversations, site visits/observations, and site artifacts/documents. Findings – The authors found a great deal of both similarity and dissimilarity across programs, and these findings were utilized as grounds for programmatic introspection, evaluation, accreditation, and certification to better understand how stakeholder voice is involved in the processes. Table I provides an overview of items identified, and will serve as a guide for the remainder of this paper. Originality/value – An inclusive awareness will consider the voices of the student, university, employer, and other stakeholders, including co-workers and employers that currently do not offer internships. Given the rising cost of tuition and the wealth of competition in the market, the pressure is on for institutions of higher education to up the ante when it comes to providing quality experiential learning opportunities. The next step should focus on defining expectations and tailoring each internship program, and for that to be accomplished, all stakeholders must be “all in.”

S’appuyant sur l’exemple de l’étude d’une exploitation d’élevage ovin-viande du Sud de la France, les auteurs proposent une méthode rétrospective d’analyse des performances de reproduction utilisant l’information contenue dans les carnets d’agnelage, documents largement utilisés par les éleveurs français. Différents modes d’organisation de cette information permettent de développer trois volets d’étude complémentaires :- l’analyse de l’évolution saisonnière et interannuelle des performances de reproduction à l’échelle du troupeau ;- l’analyse de la variabilité intra-troupeau des performances individuelles (précocité, aptitude au désaisonnement, fertilité, régularité, prolificité, longévité), qui débouche sur une caractérisation globale des carrières des brebis ;- l’analyse combinée, qui associe les deux volets d’étude précédents, et qui permet de rendre compte des rythmes de reproduction, lesquels résultent des interactions entre les variations du milieu d’élevage et les comportements individuels des animaux. Le développement de ce type d’étude et son application à des systèmes d’élevage variés pourrait permettre de déboucher sur des conclusions opératoires en termes de conduite des troupeaux et peut-être de choix du matériel génétique.

Quasiment terminés avant de quitter le collège, pendant les deux heures d’accompagnement éducatif qui ont suivi le dernier cours. Restent tout de même les leçons pour demain… dommage que les documents montrés en classe par le professeur d’histoire ne soient pas en ligne.

La “Cour des Lions” du Prinsenhof de Gand, entretenue à grands frais par les ducs de Bourgogne au XVe siècle, puis par les souverains Habsbourg jusqu’au milieu du XVIIe siècle, est exceptionnellement bien documentée par les sources d’archives conservées à Lille, Gand et Bruxelles. Cet article livre une exploitation de ces documents, en procédant à un parcours en partie thématique, sur les lions et les autres fauves tenus en captivité, et en partie chronologique, selon la succession des souverains. Des aspects les plus matériels, comme la facture des cages ou le confort des spectateurs, jusqu’aux plus politiques, tels les échanges de fauves entre souverains, on peut y reconstituer le devenir d’une ménagerie qui a traversé les temps. On relèvera en particulier la réussite répétée de la reproduction en captivité des lions, le souci constant d’améliorer leurs installations, mais aussi les contraintes financières de cette institution. On note aussi la présence d’autres félins et d’ours, ces derniers étant exhibés parfois dans des combats publics. Comme en d’autres lieux, la ménagerie assumait une importance politique comme signe de pouvoir, doublée ici de la référence héraldique et dynastique aux blasons flamands et gantois arborant un lion.

Every human culture has reflected the Moon’s influence in its cosmology, spirituality, science, creative and social life. For these reasons, the exploration and use of the Moon should be done thoughtfully and carefully, and possible resource extraction should not harm the Earth's only satellite and its environment as a whole. The adoption by some States of national legislation affecting the commercial exploitation of space resources, as well as the resumption of lunar programs by several leading spacefaring nations at a time, prompt the need for legal regulation in this area. However, to develop a detailed international legal regime for lunar exploration, the efforts of the States parties to the UN COPUOS alone are not sufficient since in practice other actors in international relations, including the so-called epistemic communities representing various types of non-governmental organizations, are also active participants in space activities. Such communities offer their own vision of the international legal regulation of relations arising in the framework of the exploration and use of the Moon basing on the norms of international space law and involving active participation of non-governmental legal entities, considering the interests of present and future generations, as well as of emerging space nations. The study presents a comprehensive analysis of the influence of epistemic communities on the development of the future international legal regime for lunar exploration. The authors consistently review the activities of non-governmental organizations within the UN COPUOS since its formation. Special attention is paid to the contribution of such communities to the progressive development of international space law and its codification, including the legal nature of the documents developed by such communities. The study concludes with a comprehensive international legal assessment of the activities of the epistemic communities.

RÉSUMÉ Cet article se propose d’évaluer la qualité des dénombrements de la population canadienne réalisés entre 1685 et 1739. L’appréciation de la cohérence interne de ces documents permet d’abord de suspecter le sous-enregistrement de certaines catégories de la population, comme par exemple les femmes au 17e siècle et les jeunes garçons dans le premier quart du 18e siècle. Afin de mesurer l’ampleur globale du sous-enregistrement, la critique des données consiste ensuite à comparer l’effectif de la population enregistrée au nombre des personnes présentes au moment du recensement, tel qu’estimé par la technique du solde naturel cumulé. Il ressort de ce calcul que tous les dénombrements pèchent par défaut d’enregistrement. Avec un taux moyen d’omission d’un peu plus de 10%, les dénombrements sont finalement, pour l’époque pré-statistique, d’une qualité suffisante pour que leur exploitation puisse être entreprise avec profit.

Abstract. Passive seismic analyses are a key technology for the exploration and monitoring of subsurface reservoirs. Searching for alternative resources in the framework of the energy transition is creating a surge for identifying as many potential sites as possible suitable for geothermal exploitation. The Lower Rhine Embayment, at the western border of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, is an extensional system with a very high potential for geothermal exploitation. The area experiences moderate but continuous natural seismicity. Here, we report on a passive seismic dataset recorded with 48 seismic stations centred at and around Eschweiler–Weisweiler (https://doi.org/10.14470/MO7576467356, Finger et al., 2022). Background seismic noise levels are high at this site due to high levels of anthropogenic noise and thick unconsolidated sedimentary layers. The final station layout is a compromise between targeted network design and suitably quiet locations. We show that the network design allows for the application of state-of-the-art methods including waveform-based source location methods and ambient-noise velocity imaging methods.

AbstractAlthough there is little evidence of private farm tenancy in the Tanak, examination of documents from the third century BCE to the early second century CE suggests that this economic system became an important instrument of agricultural exploitation in Jewish Palestine sometime in the third or second century BCE. The growth of large estates, the implementation of tenancy, and shifts from polyculture to export-oriented monoculture had important effects on the structure of labor, creating classes of underemployed day laborers (ergatai) and 'free' tenants, who made their first literary appearances in the Septuagint, the parables of Jesus, and the Mishnah. Il n'existe guère dans le Tanak d'attestations de 'métayage agricole indépendant'. Néanmoins, l'examen de documents datant du IIIe siècle av. J.-C. jusqu'au début du IIe après, suggère que ce système économique devint un important instrument dans l'exploitation des campagnes en Palestine juive au cours du IIIe ou IIe siècle av. J.-C. L'accroissement des grands domaines au détriment des petites exploitations, l'établissement de métairies et le passage d'une polyculture à une monoculture orientée vers l'exportation eurent des conséquences notables sur la structure du travail. Des catégories de journaliers sous-employés (ergatai) et de métayers 'libres' furent ainsi générées, dont les premières mentions apparaissent dans la version des Septante, les Paraboles de Jésus et la Mishnah.

Abstract : The present research treats the inclusion of authentic material within the textbooks designed to teach the French as a foreign language in the Algerian Educational system during the era where the printed and the numerical were competitivity. It is then an exploratory research having comprehensive and interpretative aims which are backed up by the examination of the textbook contents as well as by the declarative discourse of teachers and learners. Its objective is to understand what happens in FFL classes in terms of the authentic teaching material exploitation made inclusive in the printed textbooks as well as the recurrent resources. The results show clearly, with the absence of numerical textbooks, a frequent recourse to the authentic teaching material that exists on line. This way of proceeding results from the insufficient quality of the printed textbooks which are highly contested by the teachers and seem not to be attractive for the learners.
 Résumé : La présente recherche traite de l’inclusion des documents authentiques dans les manuels de FLE en Algérie à une époque où l’imprimé et le numérique sont en concurrence. C’est une recherche exploratoire à visée compréhensive-interprétative qui s’appuie sur l’examen des contenus des manuels et sur le discours déclaratif (des enseignants et des apprenants). Elle a pour objectif de comprendre ce qui se joue en classe de FLE en termes d’exploitation des documents authentiques inclus dans les manuels imprimés ainsi que les ressources ligne. Les résultats obtenus montrent bien, en l’absence de manuels numériques, un recours fréquent aux documents authentiques existant en ligne. Cette manière de faire résulte de la qualité jugée insuffisante des manuels imprimés très contestés par les enseignants et qui semblent moins attrayants pour les apprenants.

Ces caractéristiques se traduisent par de grands volumes de données très difficiles à visualiser, manipuler et étudier sans l’aide de logiciels très onéreux.Dans le cadre du projet ANR FORESEE, nous avons développé un logiciel web, de visualisation mixte nuage de pointsLidar / surface 3D issue d’un Modèle Numérique de Terrain / carte / photographie aérienne et terrestre / donnée vectorielle : la plateforme zForest. Ce logiciel, qui s’adresse aux chercheurs en télédétection et à terme aux exploitants forestiers, permet la navigation à grande échelle dans des données massives et leur exploration, du niveau de détail le plus large (la région) jusqu’au plus fin (l’arbre). Cet outil permet la mesure, l’annotation et l’extraction des données. Il propose également une interface de programmation web (API) permettant à d’autres outils du marché d’utiliser ses données sources. zForest étant une plateforme web, elle est disponible sans installation sur tous les navigateurs internet récents, facilitant son accessibilité et son déploiement.

Regret minimisation in stochastic multi-armed bandits is a well-studied problem, for which several optimal algorithms have been proposed. Such algorithms depend on (sufficient statistics of) the empirical reward distributions of the arms to decide which arm to pull next. In this paper, we consider the design of algorithms that are constrained to store statistics from only a bounded number of arms. For bandits with a finite set of arms, we derive a sub-linear upper bound on the regret that decreases with the “arm memory” size M. For instances with a large, possibly infinite, set of arms, we show a sub-linear bound on the quantile regret.Our problem formulation generalises that of Liau et al. Although this choice makes our analysis harder, it leads to much-improved practical performance. For bandits with a large number of arms and no known structure on the rewards, our algorithms serve as a viable option. Unlike many other approaches to restrict the memory of bandit algorithms, our algorithms do not need any additional technical assumptions.

Les recherches en analyse du discours peuvent servir la didactique des langues de spécialité. C’est par exemple le cas des études du discours touristique qui pourraient alimenter les cours de français de spécialité. Les auteurs partent de la notion du discours pour aborder par la suite le discours touristique que constituent les programmes de circuits, les brochures, les slogans publicitaires… du domaine et qui sont autant de sources de documents authentiques pour les classes de français du tourisme. Cet article, qui embrasse à la fois linguistique et didactique, est une exploration théorique en vue d’une étude concrète d’un genre de discours au service de l’élaboration des activités pédagogiques dans le cadre des modules de Français du tourisme.

The exploration and exploitation of the downthrown side of the productive upthrown Pre-rifting reservoirs at the Gulf of Suez marked bring a renaissance to the rift basin Exploration. This work documents the reservoir performance, trap geometry, and structural style of the downthrown deep marine stratigraphic entrapment. In addition, it outlines the requirements necessary beyond the production mitigations and limits. To gain better understanding of Asl Formation (deep marine) reservoir characteristics early in the exploration program, Asl Formation was cored in the north October J-5 well. A continuous 366- foot (112m) core was recovered including the main reservoir interval, which is producing over 12,000 barrel of oil per day. The J-5 Asl Formation has been interpreted as a synthetic, mixed clastic-carbonate turbidity deposit. Three major lithofacies described are recognizable on electric log. These are sandstone, shale and carbonates. The sandstones dominate the lower portion of the core and are the main oil producing section. Sandstone porosity and permeability range from 17 to 27% and 30 millidarcies to 3 darcies, respectively. Compared to the sandstone, the carbonate turbidites have poorer reservoir quality. They dominate the upper portion of the core and are composed of coarse fossil debris, silica framework grains and rock fragments. Horizontal and vertical permeabilities with rock types. Both the sandstone and carbonate sections of the J-5 core have experienced a complex diagenetic history. Deposition of the cored interval was initiated by a convulsive geological event such as flashflood or earthquake. These events would likely generate sufficient energy for mobilization of onshore and/or near shore sediments into multiple gravity flows having regional extent. The reservoir quality is controlled by a combination of primary depositional fabric and subsequent diagenetic modification. This research work can guide future exploration of reservoir-prone deep marine deposits in the Red Sea Rift and provide a reference for the subsurface deep-water reservoir quality analysis in the propagation stage in the Rift Basins.

Metaheuristic algorithms are generic optimization tools to solve complex problems with extensive search spaces. This algorithm minimizes the size of the search space by using effective search strategies. Research on metaheuristic algorithms continues to grow and is widely applied to solve big data problems. This study aims to provide an analysis of the performance of metaheuristic research and to map a description of the themes of the metaheuristic research method. Using bibliometric analysis, we examined the performance of scientific articles and described the available opportunities for metaheuristic research methods. This study presents the performance analysis and bibliometric review of metaheuristic research documents indexed in the Scopus database between the period of 2016-2021. The overall number of papers published at the global level was 3846. At global optimization, heuristic methods, scheduling, genetic algorithms, evolutionary algorithms, and benchmarking dominate metaheuristic research. Meanwhile, the discussion on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference, forecasting, feature selection, biomimetics, exploration, and exploitation, are growing hot issues for research in this field. The current research reveals a unique overview of metaheuristic research at the global level from 2016-2021, and this could be valuable for conducting future research.

Fujian Province is a largely mountainous region with forest cover of 66 percent, the highest in China. Mountain forestry has been intensively exploited since the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) and up to the present time, mainly due to the economic growth of coastal trade, which has also led to significant population displacement and socioeconomic changes. Historical sources on mountain forestry are limited, and most of them concern phenomena marginal to it, such as, for example, mountain refugees or social unrest. These materials hardly allow a satisfactory account of the different historical processes inherent to the exploitation of mountain areas. In recent years, however, a huge number of forestry contracts have been discovered in various places in Fujian, opening up a new field of study: the social history of mountainous regions. This paper, by drawing on existing contractual documents of mountain forests in Fujian, thus intends to provoke some thought and discussion in this area of research.

The mask is a covering for the face and/or making a replica of it. It is a pristine human phenomenon, the product of human’s spirit and artistry. It was at the core of the “early man’s” apprehension of life and its imponderable that is still used in the present. Its use is also in the mind and this has been subjected to writing especially in the diction of poetry, and is still intrinsic to modern humanity’s expression of day to day realities and impulses. This paper examines and explains Osaro et al’s sensitivity to the mask. It analyses the ways in which the poets exploit in a volcano of voices, the image of the mask to make social, cultural, political, artistic, oil exploration and exploitation statements in their entire poetic oeuvre. They aptly condemn and vehemently query the predators of the Niger Delta.

Abstract. Structural studies in active caldera systems are widely used in geothermal exploration to reconstruct volcanological conceptual models. Active calderas are difficult settings to perform such studies mostly because of the highly dynamic environment, dominated by fast accumulation of primary and secondary volcanic deposits, the variable and transient rheology of the shallow volcanic pile, and the continuous feedbacks between faulting, secondary porosity creation, and geothermal fluid circulation, alteration and cementation that tend to obliterate the tectonic deformation structures. In addition, deformation structures can be also caused by near- and far-field stress regimes, which include magmatic intrusions at various depths, the evolving topography and regional tectonics. A lack of consideration of all these factors may severely underpin the reliability of structural studies. By rebutting and providing a detailed discussion of all the points raised by the comment of Norini and Groppelli (2020) to the Urbani et al. (2020) paper, we take the opportunity to specify the scientific rationale of our structural fieldwork and strengthen its relevance for geothermal exploration and exploitation in active caldera geothermal systems in general and, particularly, for the Holocene history of deformation and geothermal circulation in the Los Humeros caldera. At the same time, we identify several major flaws in the approach and results presented in Norini and Groppelli (2020), such as (1) the lack of an appropriate ranking of the deformation structures considering an inventory method for structural analysis; (2) the misinterpretation and misquoting of Urbani et al. (2020) and other relevant scientific literature; and (3) irrelevant and contradictory statements within their comment.
