Existentialism is a philosophical movement that has had a significant impact on our understanding of knowledge, truth, morality, values, and religion. This research aims to explore the influence of existentialism on these fundamental aspects of human existence. The research methodology involved an extensive review of literature from prominent existentialist philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche. The findings of this research highlight that existentialism challenges the traditional view of objective truth and knowledge, emphasizing the subjective and personal experience of individuals. Furthermore, existentialism posits that individuals must create their own values and meaning in life, rather than relying on external sources such as religion or society. In terms of morality, existentialism emphasizes the individual's responsibility for their actions, as opposed to being governed by universal ethical principles. The limitations of this research include the focus on Western existentialist philosophy, neglecting other cultural and philosophical traditions. The contribution of this research is that it sheds light on the influence of existentialism on various aspects of human existence and highlights the significance of subjective experience and personal responsibility. The practical implication of this research is that it provides insight into the importance of individualism and personal agency in various domains, such as education, mental health, and politics. The novelty of this research lies in the comprehensive exploration of existentialism's influence on various aspects of human existence, providing a unique perspective on these topics.

Existentialism is a philosophy and its methodological roots come from the phenomological method developed by Hussel. Existentialism is closely related to education. This is because the center of existentialism's discussion is human existence, while education is only carried out by humans. The aim of education is to encourage every individual to be able to develop all his potential for self-fulfillment. The implication of the philosophy of existentialism in education is to provide broad and comprehensive experience in all forms of life. The goal of existential education is human freedom. Existentialist teachers must be able to foster a spirit of self-discipline and responsibility in their students. The role of teachers in the existentialist perspective is that teachers are tasked with protecting and maintaining academic freedom. Teachers give students the freedom to choose and provide them with experiences that will help them discover their lives and teachers also act as facilitators for students in developing their own potential. This article uses a qualitative approach by applying the literature study method. Elementary school students only experience the pre-existential period but continue to be formed with character education in the form of guidance services.

The relevance of the proposed research is determined by the reviving the interest of modern literary studies of the figure of Volodymyr Vynnychenko, determining the place of his creativity in the context of European modernism, the ambiguity of assessments of this phenomenon in the context of Ukrainian fine literature. The article examines Volodymyr Vynnychenko’s novels in the discourse of French Existentialism. Attention is focused on outlining the similarities and differences between J.-P. Sartre, A. Camus and V. Vynnychenko’s worldviews and aesthetic views. The origins of the existentialist method in the work of the Ukrainian émigré writer and its inclusion in the discourse of French atheistic of Existentialism are also analysed, and some conclusions of the “Mougins” cycle of Vynnychenko’s works are investigated using summarized prospects for its study in a broad and its European context is also outlined. The authors examine the forms and methods of aesthetic refraction of the basic concepts of existentialism (absurdity, rebellion, freedom, choice, and relationships at the level “I – the Other”). The purpose of the work and the tasks involve analyzing the philosophical and artistic texts of Vynychenko in the discourse of French existentialism, as well as revealing the main philosophical ideas and functions of the novels of the Ukrainian writer, consistent with the creative guidelines of J.-P. Sartre and A. Camus. The set of goals determines the need for the use of hermeneutic (analysis of artistic texts), historical-literary, comparative-typological (posing and solving a number of literary problems in the context of equal national literature, and biographical (using diary entries) research methods. The problem is determining the place of ideology in the context of French existentialism and the “Mougins’” cycle of Vynnychenko’s works, was raised in literary studies as early as the 70s of the last century, in particular by diaspora researchers S. Naumovych and L. Zaleska-Onyshkevych, who tried to show the priority of Vynnychenko’s writing compared to Sartre and Camus. The problem of existentialism as a philosophical direction was considered in the late 1940s among the members of the Artistic Ukrainian Movement, attempting to formulate the concept of “Ukrainian existentialism”. The Ukrainian researcher Ya. Kotets includes diaspora representatives 70 years later in the article “The Formula of Ukrainian Existentialism” (2021). There are several Ukrainian and Soviet writers who produce some existential ideas and elements of existential interpretation of human life, but they should not be called conscious writers-existentialists. Among modern Ukrainian works need to name “Existentialist philosophy. Traditions and perspectives” by S. Raida (2009), as well as the comparative study “Ukrainian version of artistic existentialism: B.I. Antonych, V. Svidzinsky, T. Osmachka in the European context” (2020) by H. Tokman, where is introduced the concept of “artistic existentialism”. The critical optics of the research make it possible to combine the historical and philosophical specificity of the interwar twenty years and the post-war period, on which are built the works of Vynnychenko, Sartre and Camus. It is an attempt to show the originality of the philosophical and aesthetic views of the emigrant Vynnychenko in the paradigm of French existentialism, to demonstrate the similarity of the Ukrainian type of philosophizing (from Skovoroda, Franko, Lesya Ukrainka to Vynnychenko), to analyze his characteristic orientation towards a person who faces the eternal problems of life, death, and evil. Such non-scientific philosophizing gave birth to special genre forms: essay, aphorism, portrait, dialogue, drama, and novel, which can be found in V.Vynnychenko’s literary work. Vynnychenko belongs to those thinkers who went beyond the boundaries of traditional philosophy in order to comprehend the broader meaning of the entire spiritual culture, developing the ideas of A. Schopenhauer, F. Nietzsche, A. Bergson, the theosophical theory of R. Steiner, in their writings. Vynnychenko set himself the goal of revealing prospects for further development to man, to give meaning to its existence, to point it to certain positive values, that is, to overcome the extremes of German and French existentialism and develop a positive philosophical platform.

This study examines how existentialism, which emphasizes purpose, freedom, and individual life, affects environmental harm. The study asks: should environmental polluters face only criminal penalties or existential crises as a deeper moral responsibility? Conceptual normative research is used in this work. This study analyses existentialist and environmental criminal law literature to link existential crises to environmental degradation. The results imply that existentialism—a philosophy that analyses meaning, freedom, and existence—is linked to rampant environmental deterioration. This study suggests that environmental harm perpetrators should confront an “existential crisis” rather than criminal punishment. The crisis is forcing a reorientation of values and actions, which affects business behaviour, environmental ethics, and criminal law. Existentialism in Environmental Law and ethics broadens “responsibility” and “accountability,” while offering a more inclusive, democratic, and sustainable paradigm.

Jean-Paul Sartre is a famous figure in the fields of philoshophy and literature, considered one of the parents of contemporary existentialism. Existentialism is a philosophical school which argues that all phenomena originate from existence, or the existence of something. Existentialism is a protest against the concept of “logic” and “nature” which were emphasized in the enlightenment period (Enlightenment) in the eighteenth century. Sarte’s existentialist philosophical thought is La Liberte or human freedom. Humans are free, independent. Therefore, he must be free to determine and decide, he acts alone without other people around or with him. This research analyzes Jean-Paul Sartre's views on the theory of existentialism in the film Attack on Titan. This film is related to the theory of existentialism by Jean-Paul Sartre, a philosopher who developed the current of existentialism. By using the research method "library research" with a qualitative approach. The aim of this research is to describe the philosophical views of existentialism and analyze the extent to which the values and concepts in Jean-Paul Sartre's theory can be harmonized with the principles of Islamic teachings. In conclusion, it can be seen that the film "Attack on Titan" effectively reflects Sartre's thoughts about free human existence and responsibility for the world around him. Jean-Paul Sartre's existentialism, although emphasizing personal responsibility and individual freedom, was secular and perhaps not in harmony with religious principles, especially Islam. Some concepts of existentialism, such as the emphasis on absolute freedom, can conflict with the Islamic view which places obedience to Allah as the main principle.

The purpose of this study is to describe the philosophical foundations that underlie existentialism, models or forms of existentialism, figures who apply existentialism in their literature works, critiques of existentialism. The method used in collecting data is the technique of looking at notes on reference sources in books related to existentialism. The results of the study show that the foundations philosophical of existentialism is that humans have the highest authority in governing themselves with responsible freedom. The models that appear in this exsistentialism are novels, dramas, poetry with themes of anxiety, sadness and others. Arab literary figures who apply this exsistentialism in their works include: 'Abd al-Rahman Badawi, Khalil al-Hawi, Abd al-Wahab al-Bayati, Taufiq al-Hakim. Later in its development, existentialism received some criticism because of its extreme ideas which were contrary to what was brought by Islam, that humans must believe in God and the values of intellectual heritage.

Existential theories and Humanistic psychology are widely used in education. According to existentialists, fundamental problem of philosophy is Valuation and choice. Making existential methods in the classroom requires a balance in which both teachers and students as human beings preserve its identity. Existentialist philosopher and humanist psychologists advocate the kind of teaching and learning methods that focus on the learner and Care about individual differences. The research objective was identifying the teaching methods and the characteristics of each one supported by this approach. This research was done using qualitative content analysis and reviewing literature on the subject was published. The method of data analysis was thematic coding by using deductive category application. The results showed that the existentialists emphasized on the relation "I - you" between teacher and student thus support the teaching methods that consider individual patterns and indirect instructions. These methods cause growth of efficient relations and positive self-concept. Such methods are dialogue; Learner-centered method and developing positive self-concept. existential education goals cannot be predetermined and cannot the teacher and the educational system impose to students. According to Peyre (1948:21), the fathers and forefathers of existentialism were mostly Germans, but it was adapted and transformed by the French and was re-exported to the rest of the world. Peyre’s inference reduces the history of existentialism to a nutshell. Existentialism can be defined as an intellectual movement that reflects all aspects of modern life. In literature, this theory acts as a useful approach to analysing literary works in order to make sense of the complexities, contradictions and dilemmas surrounding the characters. The purpose of this research paper is to study the novel of Subramaniam Krishnan, popularly known as K. S. Maniam, an Indian Malaysian academic and novelist, from an existentialist perspective. His novels deal with the lives and problems of the post-colonial Indian Diaspora in Malaysia. In 2000, he received the Raja Rao Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Literature of the South Asian Diaspora. His first novel ‘The Return’ is an autobiographical novel which deals with cultural struggle and cultural identity. This novel will be analysed from an existential perspective.

This article analyses little-known short stories of modern Ukrainian writers Valerian Pidmohylny and Mykhailo Yatskiv in the context of the 20th century existentialism. It can be considered as a cultural phenomenon which combines philosophy with literature. Pidmohylny’s short stories were significantly influenced primarily by the ideas of the European philosophers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Therefore, we can search for similar motives in the works of Pidmohylny and the existentialists, which developed under the influence of the ideas of Schopenhauer, Kierkegaard, and Nietzsche. Also, the authors consider Yatskiv’s short stories through the prism of the core concepts of existentialism, namely, fate and death. Pidmohylny and Yatskiv can be assigned to existential writers on the basis of retrospective analysis of the themes of their short stories and the thematic areas of 20th century existentialism.

This article examines Sartre’s works in which his attempt to find an existentialist ethics is evident. Most of the clues to this project are to be found in texts published posthumously since during his lifetime he never managed to fulfil the promise he made at the end of Being and Nothingness. It will be argued that this existentialist ethics owes a strong debt to Kantian philosophy, even if it confronts more directly the historical dynamics of violence and oppression. Despite the fact that this project is unfinished and only sketched out, it is possible to ask what Sartre’s direction of development would have been, pointing to the outline of a normative theory, Critical Existentialism, that could have its place in contemporary ethical debate.

The article attempts to study English existentialism in the light of J.-P. Sartre's philosophy. J.-P. Sartre is considered a theorist of existentialism as a literary trend. Existential motives characteristic of the 20th century European literature are used in the works of the prominent representatives of the English literature, such as A. Murdoch, W. Golding, C. Wilson, and M. Spark. Existentialism as a philosophical trend has played an important role in finding a way out of crisis and forming a new social worldview. English existentialist writers broke the norms of the view on human relations with society. In their works they focused on the concept of man, their essence and inner world, determined their place, both in philosophy and in literature. The named scholars showed that history brings to the political forefront a person who is doomed to freedom with their whole being and repeatedly transgresses various forms of social existence. This is also the main philosophical platform of the European existential literature. Through the prism of accepting such a position, the main credo of Sartre’s entire life activity is justified: realizing and justifying his spiritual, moral and value choice, a person thereby assumes responsibility for the fate of the whole world. Sartre’s main works turned out to be free from serious shortcomings. On the contrary, the synthesis of democratic and individualistic tendencies appeared complex, contradictory, and therefore gave rise to further discussions in the world literature. However, the main theoretical positions of the thinker had a significant impact on the existential literature of Europe, in particular, on the English literature.

Taking its shape in the 1920s of the twentieth century, existentialism has pervaded into a wide range of world literatures. In Southern Vietnam (1955 – 1975), the reception of existentialism theories underwent no crack and proved to be compatible with the social context full of volatility. Existentialism is a “humanitarian theory” (J.P.Sartre). Existentialism theories have permeated the writers’ consciousness and works in terms of their views of the human fate in the period when "God is dead”. Duong Nghiem Mau was a pioneer writer in receiving and expressing existential themes in his works, paving the way for the existential literature of Southern Vietnam. His works reflected various social aspects of life in Southern Vietnam, featuring the voice of a lost generation. The return of Duong Nghiem Mau's fiction at the beginning of the twentieth-first century emerged as a piece of evidence for the durability of existentialism and its pervasiveness in the global literature.

This article is devoted to the works of John Steinbeck from the position of the functioning of the main existential categories or "existentials" of human Being. Existentialism is considered here as a phenomenon that has gone beyond specific philosophy and literature and entered the cultural tradition as a conglomerate of issues that directly concern anthropology. Existential categories are derived as a result of the analysis of the philosophical and cultural base of existentialism, as well as by means of addressing a specific historical situation. The term "existential" belonging to M. Heidegger is interpreted here as a "base-forming value category", "pillar for existence" and is used as an element of literary analysis. The authors identify and investigate a number of existentials characteristic for literature and capable of being modified in the angle of the plot of a particular work. As a result of the study, it is concluded that in the works of J. Steinbeck, existential categories associated with the problem of human existence in a specific situation and representing the existentials of "support and overcoming" are the most frequent. This is a "dream", "hope", "meaning of life", which is directly related to the context recreated by the author. In general, the analysis of a literary work from the angle of the functioning of existential categories allows to analyse the work in its historical and cultural terms, as well as to make a deeper and more comprehensive characteristic of a literary character.

This article is focused on the peculiarities of the perception of existential philosophy in modern Indian literature of the late 20th–21st centuries. The research is based on the stories of Hindi writers – Kunwar Narain (1927–2017) and Nirmal Varma (1929–2005). Their works is the brightest example of existential literature. The research is also based on two English novels by Indian-born writers Anita Desai (born 1937) “Where Shall We Go This Summer?” and Upamanyu Chatterjee (born 1959) “English August”. Despite the renewed interest in existentialism in modern literature, known as neuro-existentialism , the study of which takes place with the participation of the latest achievements of neuroscience, there are still few analyses in Russian Indology that are aimed at studying the influence of this philosophical trend on Hindi works and postcolonial literature. The aesthetics of existentialism is quite pronounced, moreover, they, creating a new theme of literary works, remain within the framework of traditional poetics, referring to Indian images, plots, religious foundations of Hinduism, as well as to their own self-awareness. However, the philosophical implications of works in Hindi and English are different. Writers interpret the foundations of existentialism in different ways, and the characters choose different ways to solve their internal contradictions. In the light of the stated topic, the problem of why the psychological life of the characters of these writers is depicted differently is considered. If the heroes of K. Narain and N. Varma, accepting the absurdity of existence, do not see the infinity of suffering and death of meaning, building their lives around the belief in rebirth, then the hero of the works in English fatally accepts the frailty of existence, believing in his helplessness before fate.

Aim. The article is devoted to the study of Vasyl Stefanyk's novels in the plane of the philosophy of existentialism. The aim is to show the main elements of this trend in the structure of the writer's artistic world. Subject: elements of the philosophy of existentialism and poetic ways of their personification in the art of Vasyl Stefanyk. The topicality of the research is to refute the thesis about the incompleteness of the Ukrainian literary process of creative searches. It is proving that elements of existentialism in Ukrainian literature existed in the end of the XIX - early XX centuries. Research methods. During studying of this topic we used the deductive approach as a general scientific method, so the texts for analysis selected those that are most suitable for consideration in the reception of existentialism. In particular, the comparative method, together with the analysis of categories, allowed us to analyze the stories of Vasyl Stefanyk through the prism of the key mods of this direction: loneliness, death, suffering, boundary situations, etc. Results. Using the method of analysis of categories and comparative studies, we considered the foundations of the philosophy of existentialism in literature, in particular in the stories of Vasyl Stefanyk, and determined the phenomenon of his work as the forerunner of this trend in Ukrainian literature. We believe that it was unjustly overtaken by critics, because the situations on the verge of life and death, inner harmony and despair, fateful choice are one of the most important features of the "literature of being," which, in turn, are elucidated by the author in the texts. The obtained materials and conclusions can find practical application at classes of Ukrainian literature during the study of Vasyl Stefanyk's works; at classes in the university to present a more voluminous picture of the figure of the writer, and may also need researchers of the philosophy of existentialism in literature.

Abstract The literature on the influence of phenomenology and existentialism on Gestalt therapy is controversial because its founders did not clarify its philosophical and epistemological foundations. However, we understand that various influences exerted on Perls and his collaborators during the development of the Gestalt therapy led to a phenomenological-existential approach. The possible influences of phenomenology and existentialism on Gestalt therapy are discussed based on literature review focusing on the influence of Gestalt psychology, through Goldstein, Laura Perls, and Goodman, and the approaches to the phenomenological ideas of Brentano, Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. Similarly, with regard to existentialism, we address the combination of Gestalt concepts with the philosophies of Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Buber, and Sartre. It was concluded that the influence of phenomenology and existentialism on Gestalt therapy resulted in the conception of man as a being-in-the-world and an emphasis on past experiences.

The article reveals both the history of origin and specificity of existentialism philosophical movement development under the terms of French humanistics in the 1940–1980. The author traces the originality of the «European course» of this philosophical system, which, having been formed within the tradition of the Russian worldview between the 19th and 20th centuries, began to transform into philosophical-ideological or philosophical-ethical models in Germany and France. After the Second World War, existentialism was widely accepted among the Spanish and Italian philosophers, occasionally «capturing» the entire European cultural space. The study emphasizes that existentialism has common roots, although each of the existing models requires independent analysis, since they were chronologically formed in an interval of one or two decades, introducing marked changes into the orthodox model. The author finds out that existentialism played an important role in the development of French humanistics because it could rely on intuitivism and personnelism, which contributed to the renewal of philosophical thinking in the 1920–1940s. The paper demonstrates that the French model of existentialism was developed on the basis of inter-scientific approach, organically combining philosophy, natural science, psychology and literary studies, achieving significant success in the development of various types of art, in particular, literature and theater. The aim of the research suggests the following objectives: to reconstruct the history of existentialism formation, to identify the specificity of the French model of this philosophical system and to create the essence of possible transformational processes within the humanistic development based on application of existentialism. Methodology of the research is based on historical and cultural, biographical, analytical and comparative approaches. The scientific novelty of the article is defined by the possibility to use and exploit the potential of inheritance, which exists between existentialism and postmodernism, since, according to the chronology, the former determined by philosophical system in its logical development, came close to the latter in the logical sequencing. The author justifies the significance of the article considering works of French existentialists The obtained results make it possible to conclude: 1) the French model of existentialism should be evaluated as eclectic, because it was formed on the basis of the ideas of S. Kierkegaard and L. Shestov, demonstrating, at the same time, interest to its religious criterion (H. Marcel). 2) J.-P. Sartre's ‘transformational’ philosophical position: «Marxism – existentialism» should be taken into consideration. The article explains both his sympathy to politicalization of existentialism and his interest in the problems of «biographism», which strengthened the literary orientation of the philosopher's views, and his interest in «pathological» experiments of psychoanalysis. 3) The link between theoretical ideas of A. Camus and artistic practice, which enables to transform «philosophy of absurdity» at first into «dramaturgy of absurdity», and – later – into «theater of absurdity» has been established. Within this context, the works of J. Genet, S. Beckett and E. Ionesco are referred to. Theoretical and practical significance lies in the fact that the material of this study promotes further scientific and theoretical comprehension of French humanities at the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries. The results can be used while lecturing aesthetics, philosophy, cultural studies, history and theory of art for students of higher institutions of humanities and rstistic creativity.

The philosophy of existentialism emerged driven by the uncertain world conditions due to world wars. So existentialism is present as a thought movement that emphasizes human subjectivity and freedom. This study has a purpose for reflection. Reflection means the process of understanding events in the mind or experience that is owned. This study uses descriptive qualitative research. This study utilizes a literature search. The literature search process begins with key phrases such as “existentialism”, “education” and “awareness”. Man must exist, which means realizing that he exists to control himself and act on his behalf. The philosophy of existentialism talks about human existence, while talking about humans means questioning educational issues. Each person is unique, which is different from one another. Realizing this is important for students, parents, teachers, principals, board members, and all those involved in education. Education is expected to realize the "intensity of awareness" of students. So that they are aware of their responsibility to determine the life they will live themselves.

And finally, individuality and absurdity constitute the main spirits in Existentialism. This article examines individualism and memory in Robert Frost's A boy's will (1913) and Tanure Ojaide's The beauty I have seen (2010). The paper adopts existentialism as a critical approach. Previous studies on these poets, especially Ojaide, have neglected the individualistic nature of their poetry and stereotyped the poets. This article, thus, brings a new approach to the critical debates and scholarship on these poets. The aim of the article is to show the individualistic and existentialist nature of the poetry of Frost and Ojaide. In the analysis, individualism is examined at the level of form and content; starting with the use of the lyric form and poet-persona inclusion in the poems to the thematisation of gloom and the importance of memory, among others. The paper shows that, truly, these poets are largely individualistic in outlook, and they have expressed existentialist philosophy in their poetry.

Existentialism is quite opposed to most traditional philosophical ideas that do not only discuss the distant myths but also concern about people in real life - loneliness with worries and anxiety, “nausea” in the absurd life. Therefore, as existentialism appealed, it had been criticized as pessimism, sentimentalism and had been ignited the desperately hopeless sense of humans. However, existentialism is increasingly being accepted and considered as one of the new thought trends. Up to now, existentialism has had a certain position in Vietnamese literature, poetry, and real life. Intellectual historians often credit S⊘ren Kierkegaard as existential anxiety's prime mover. Arguing against this popular sentiment, this essay reads Kierkegaard not as the ex nihilo inventor of existential anxiety but as a modern practitioner of a deep-historical, dread-based asceticism. Examining a wide range of Middle English devotional literature alongside some canonical works of modern existentialism, it argues that Kierkegaard and the existentialists who followed him participated in a Judeo-Christian tradition of dread-based asceticism, the popularity of which had dwindled since the Middle Ages but never vanished. Following medieval ascetics, modern philosophers like Kierkegaard, Martin Heidegger, and Jean-Paul Sartre cultivated and analyzed anxiety in an effort to embody authenticity. By considering premodern ascetics early existentialists and modern existentialists latter-day ascetics, the essay sees the long history of existential anxiety as an ascetic tradition built around the ethical goal of living better through dread.

With the adventures carried out, he describes how the actors are afflicted with psychological, spiritual, ideas, and ready to be swallowed by termites so that it becomes pathetic. Iwan, in channelling his ideas and thoughts is by the understanding of the philosophers he admires, namely existentialist philosophers. Iwan can also be called a nihilist. He negates all old values and confirms standard values. He tried to overcome something he felt was an obstacle in the creation of his writing. The flow of thoughts he emits in a firm, yet artistic form. This is most evident in the novel 'Kering'. He ignores the rules, neither in his life nor in formulating his thoughts. This article explores the genesis of Mexican literary existentialism in Usigli’s 1938 play, El gesticulador. It elucidates various key drives of Mexican existentialism from Usigli’s moment onward and situates Usigli’s literary existentialism within those drives. In so doing, the essay articulates the deeply-rooted ethical bent of a Mexican existentialism forged in the orbit of identity discourse. It argues that Usigli’s morally equivocal drama makes unexpected common cause with that bent: dynamically conjugating stagecraft, Mexican philosophy, and post-revolutionary politics, El gesticulador advances a pragmatic authenticity based on altruism, communitarianism, and principles over Truth.

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 brings society in fast-paced change. Technology and social media emerge not only as a means of communication and accessibility of modern society, but also as a means of mass news spread and provocation. When society and technology coexist, technology is able to drive people to have accessibility without time limits. The objective of this study is to describe the overview of the Era of Society 5.0 seen from the perspectives of materialism and existentialism in social sciences. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with literature review analysis which specifically discussed modern society and the idea of materialism and existentialism. The results of this study showed that the Era of Society 5.0 has indeed become an era of the unification of humans and technology. Technology has become a necessity that must be fulfilled by all people. The perspectives of materialism and existentialism view it as a critical period because society is vulnerable to division if it is not directed properly. This study concluded that the Era of Society 5.0 is described as a period when humans and their mindsets are trapped between material needs and the desire for existence. Technology that is interconnected and accessed without limits presents a complex situation. The streams of materialism and existentialism provide an overview of the situation of society in two related sides.

Previous literature which focused on studying the philosophical basis of evaluating Islamic education was still not sufficient to provide a comprehensive understanding and tended to concentrate on Western thought. In fact, Islamic literature also has a strong basis to serve as a philosophical basis for evaluating Islamic education. This study aims to understand how the philosophy of existentialism can be used as a basis for thinking in the evaluation of Islamic education. The results of the study found that existentialism views students not as objects, but as dynamic subjects. In this case, the evaluation is not always carried out by the teacher to the students. However, students can also be encouraged to be able to do self-assessment. From the perspective of the Qur'an, the view of existentialism is also explained in the letter Ar-Rum verse 30 concerning human nature. This nature needs to be not passive but dynamic, so humans need to work on this nature so that it always develops into good things.

PurposeThis article aims to develop a conception consisting of insights from complexity theory and additional notions from Weick's sense‐making theory and existentialism for examining organization behaviour.Design/methodology/approachThis paper carries out a literature review of Karl Weick's theory of sense‐making and some notions from existentialism to discuss the possible contributions to complexity theory and with this a further comprehension of organizational behaviour.FindingsFour existential conditions, namely death, freedom, existentialism and meaninglessness, give a further comprehension of Weick's concept of equivocality. Equivocality is an important input for organizing processes. The complexity of organizing processes is an object for examining organizational behaviour from a complexity scientific standpoint. The authors argue that the concept of equivocality and with this the states of equilibrium in an organization can be approached with examining the states of the mentioned four existential conditions.Practical implicationsAn important point of application for change managers in an organization is equivocality. The increase of equivocality will lead to a shift in the state of equilibrium in which new themes will emerge and corresponding organisational behaviour. The level of equivocality is due to the presence of existential fears. Hence, change managers should focus on existential themes and anxieties in an organization to advance emergent change.Originality/valueNew in this paper is the usage of notions from existentialism to elaborate Weick's conception of sense‐making. Also this paper discusses the possible contribution of this elaboration to research of organisational behaviour from the perspective of complexity theory.

Existentialism became popular in the twentieth century, and it captured virtually every form of human thought and expression, including the novel, the theatre, poetry, art and theology. Though this philosophy had no specific system or sets of systems, yet it got a wide range of responses due to contemporary social circumstances. Individuals of the 20th century had a problematic existence with anguish, uncertainty, fear, alienation and despair because of different negative socio-political and cultural events that affected every aspect of life in Europe. Philip Larkin belonged to the same century and most of his poems present the typical problems of existence of an individual in the contemporary society. With an aim of better understanding of the poetry of Philip Larkin this paper explores how the poet, while dealing with the themes of his poetry, reflects the mood and ideas of existentialist philosophers. Since philosophy is closely connected with literature, as with other branches of knowledge, this study may help the readers understand Larkin’s poetry from a new perspective. The purpose of this study is to analyze a novel titled Stoner (1965) written by an American academic and author, John Williams. Stoner follows the life of William Stoner, a professor of English Literature. Stoner comes from an impoverished farming family with a unique existential ethics. He works his way to become a university instructor and learns the magnitude of passion in the success of life. This study uses Lucien Goldmann’s Genetic Structuralist theory. The goals of this research are: 1) to analyze the structure of the literary work; 2) to understand the historical background that influences the novel; and 3) to reveal the author’s world view. The study shows that John Williams captures an existential tradition belonging to American lower-class famers who lived around the late 19th century. Stoner also captures the transformation of the existential tradition following a social, economic, and political transition. Resumo:
This paper aims at analyzing the selected novels of Naguib Mahfouz in the light of the existential predicament of ‘man’. Such predicament is manifested in the aspects of despair, frustration, and poverty. The Characters in the novels play a significant role in displaying the sordid images of the modern futility of the conditions of the post-World War in Egypt. The paper assumes the existentialism as a theory and topic to comment on the situation, hence the researcher conducts the research within the existentialist theory. The texts that are selected in this paper are as follow, Midaq Alley, Cairo Trilogy, The Beggar, and The Thief and the Dogs.

One of the key issues of Existentialism is taking complete responsibility of one’s life and one’s actions and making no excuses. It might be conceived of as a movement and not a sensibility. One can think of it in many different ways but the literature that has come out in the years when Existentialism first became popular just after the Second World War and ever since, it often has the connotation of being a particularly gloomy philosophy – one that is obsessed with the notions of anxiety and dread. However, the important thing to consider is that the researchers find Existentialism a very invigorating and positive minded philosophy. The purpose of this paper is to highlight all the major aspects of the philosophical outlook and especially the importance of human determination in making constructive changes in life.
