Texto completo da fonteThis thesis is a cross-disciplinary study of discrete choice modeling, addressing both econometrics and machine learning (ML) techniques applied to individual choice modeling. The problematic arises from insufficient points of contact among users (economists and engineers) and data scientists, who pursue different objectives, although using similar techniques. To bridge this interdisciplinary gap, the PhD work proposes a unified framework for model performance analysis. It facilitates the comparison of data analysis techniques under varying assumptions and transformations. The designed framework is suitable for a variety of econometrics and ML models. It addresses the performance comparison task from the research procedure perspective, incorporating all the steps potentially affecting the performance perceptions. To demonstrate the framework’s capabilities we propose a series of 3 applied studies. In those studies the model performance is explored face to the changes in (1) sample size and balance, resulting from data collection; (2) changes in preferences structure within population, reflecting incorrect behavioral assumptions; and (3) model selection, directly intertwined with the performance perception

Texto completo da fonteIn the context of growing concern for the environmental challenge, the objective of this thesis is to bring some insights on possible links between incentives, social preferences and the environmental context. Chapter 1 is a general introduction. Chapter 2 provides a survey of the experimental research disciplines studying Pro-Environmental Behavior both in the discipline of Economics and Psychology. Thanks to a thematic inventory of the published experiments, we identify the main determinants of Pro-Environmental Behaviors investigated in economics and psychology. Moreover, we provide a statistical description of studies evolution in time. Chapter 3 adapts a public good game to waste management issue. In the context of greenhouse gases emissions reduction, policy makers design different types of incentives to act on individual behaviors. In the experiment, the players have to cooperate in order to reduce the cost of waste sorting treatment. We compare the impact of a sanctioning tax with the impact of a nudge in the form of a third party advice. Results show that advice, sanction and the threat of sanction significantly increase cooperation, with a stronger disciplinary effect for the applied sanction. Chapter 4 considers the nature of individuals' preferences expression, namely a monetary salient effort and an attentional effort. In this chapter we investigate the relation between social preferences and attentional contribution in a pro-social environment. For this purpose, we present a new experiment where subjects have to invest real attention, then we compare a selfish and prosocial incentives. The results show that both incentives increase allocated attention. Moreover, in contradiction with economic theory, we find that subjects' social preferences failed to explain attentional contribution in pro-social environments

Texto completo da fonteIn the present work, we give experimental evidence that when worker bees aged less than 24 hours are put for 24 or 72 hours in the presence of the odor or taste of a part or an extract of a melliferous plant species, they exhibit, tvo weeks later, a significant preference for a syrup containing the same vegetal element. The studies were carried out using 3 plant species : the robinia (Robinia pseudacadia L. ), the eucalyptus (Eucalyptus robustus Sm. ) and the orange tree (Citrus aurantium Risso. ) Two sets of experiments were carried out : 1. Two weeks after their familiarization with the odor or taste of a part (flowers, leaves) or an extract of one of the three plant species, bee workers can choose within the hive between a 50% sugar syrup and the same syrup with 3% of the vegetal element used for familiarization. It can be thus shown that : a. With regard to the robinia, significant effects of familiarization with dried flowers or with water extracts from dried flowers can be noted : worker bees significantly choose a syrup containing these vegetal elements. These effects are more often significant when the familiarization has been achieved through direct contact with these vegetal elements. No familiarization can be noted with dried leaves or water extracts from dried leaves. B. With regard to the eucalyptus, significant effects of familiarization with dried flowers or water extracts from dried flowers can also be noted. However, it appears as effective when the familiarization has been achieved only through the odor of these vegetal elements as when achieved through direct contact with them. There are also significant effects of familiarization with dried leaves, on condition that the familiarization phase last 72 hours. The results obtained with water extracts of dried leaves are not very significant. C. With regard to the orange tree, no significant effect of familiarization with dried flowers or water extracts from dried flowers with the same concentration (10%) as with other plant species, can be noted. On the contrary, an increase in the concentration of the water extract used for the familiarization entails significant effects on condition that the familiarization be achieved through direct contact with the water extract for a short time (24 hours). No significant effect can be noted for a familiarization with leaves or water extract of leaves from the orange tree. 2. Two weeks later, the worker bees which are in a open-field situation, can choose between a 50% sugar syrup and syrups containing different vegetal elements from one or two of the three plant species. Syrups are available on a table at about 120 meters from the hive which received the experimental groups of bee workers. This seconde set of experiments lead to the same general conclusion than the previous ones : when bees were familiarized for 24 or 72 hours with dried flowers or dried leaves or a water extract from theses vegetal elements, they visited more often two weeks later the sugar syrup containing the element used for familiarization. In some experiments, the results were quite similar : for example, the syrup containing dried flowers from the robinia was more attractive to the bee workers familiarized with this vegetal element through direct contact than to worker bees familiarized with it only through its odor. On the contrary, some other results are quite different : a familiarization with flowers from the orange tree through direct contact resulted in a marked difference for a syrup containing this vegetal element, what was not the case in previous experiments. The results obtained with eucalyptus were more variable. The last set of experiments deals with the familiarization of several hives with the odor and taste of flowers from the robinia. The results are clear-cut : when compared to control hives, these hives produced a significantly larger amount of honey. The analyses carried out on these honeys, and especially pollinic analyses, show that they came essentially from the bees' foraging behaviour on robinia trees. Thus, we bring about evidence that this method is actually pertinent to improve the production of honey and especially that made from only one plant species

Texto completo da fonteViticulture, like any other agricultural activity, has impacts on the environment, but over time, environmental concerns have intensified, and winemakers have changed their practices to integrate new criteria into their farming systems. Consumers, on their side, are more and more sensitive to these environmental issues, they are concerned about the impact of their purchases and show concern about the effects of agriculture on health and the environment. One way to change agricultural practices and to integrate new actors into the systems is through participatory approaches. These often include researchers and producers, but to date few approaches have been interested in integrating consumers into the reflection that winegrowers have on the integration of more environmentally friendly practices in their vineyards. This thesis has therefore developed a participatory approach with winegrowers, consumers and researchers in several stages (diagnosis, validation, implementation of workshops). However, the difficulty in mobilizing professional actors and their divergent interests at the collective and individual levels, as well as the lack of knowledge of consumers, can hinder this type of process. Moreover, it seems essential to couple the reflections on the deployment of practices with that of their promotion and communication to consumers to make them aware of the environmental issues in the vineyards and to support this change in practices over time

Texto completo da fonteThe lipid-binding glycoprotein CD36, expressed by circumvallate papillae (CVP) of the mouse tongue, has been shown to be implicated in oro-gustatory perception of dietary lipids. We demonstrate that linoleic acid (LA) by activating sPLA2, cPLA2 and iPLA2 via CD36, produced arachidonic acid (AA) and lyso-phosphatidylcholine (Lyso-PC) which triggered Ca2+ influx in CD36-positive taste bud cells (TBC), purified from mouse CVP. LA induced the production of Ca2+ influx factor (CIF). CIF, AA and Lyso-PC exerted different actions on the opening of store-operated Ca2+ (SOC) channels, constituted of Orai proteins and regulated by STIM1, a sensor of Ca2+ depletion in the endoplasmic reticulum. We used siRNA technology and transgenic mice models and observed that CIF and Lyso-PC opened Orai1 channels whereas AA-opened Ca2+ channels were composed of Orai1/Orai3. STIM1 was found to regulate LA-induced CIF production and opening of both kinds of Ca2+ channels. Furthermore, Stim1–/– mice lost the spontaneous preference for fat, observed in wild-type animals. The CD36-positive TBC from Stim1–/– mice also failed to release serotonin into extracellular environment. Our results suggest that fatty acid-induced Ca2+ signaling, regulated by STIM1 via CD36, might be implicated in oro-gustatory perception of dietary lipids and the spontaneous preference for fat
