Texto completo da fonteWhen children are victims, their testimony is often central to the investigation process. In recent decades, several interview techniques have been developed and tested to ensure that the child's testimony is gathered under the best possible conditions. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) interview protocol currently appears to be one of the most recommended and validated techniques at the international level. It was included in the training programs of French gendarmes and police officers in 2016. However, since then, no study has examined the impact of this implementation on field practice. The objectives of this research are therefore to learn more about how child testimonies are gathered in France, to verify whether national and international recommendations have been followed, and whether the training courses provided have enabled the NICHD protocol to be effectively implemented. In 2021, most interviews with child victims were video-recorded and took place in a dedicated room. However, the majority of investigators interviewing children were not trained in the NICHD protocol. Moreover, child witnesses seemed to be interviewed under less optimal conditions. Investigators trained in the NICHD protocol reported adopting best practices in interviews more often than those who had not received such training. These self-reported practices, collected via an online questionnaire, were confirmed by an analysis of 92 interview reports and transcripts of pre- and post-training interviews. The pre-training interviews did not comply with the recommendations: invitations, although strongly recommended, were the questions least used; conversely, closed and suggestive questions accounted for 58% of the questions asked, although they should be avoided. In contrast, the post-training interviews were of much higher quality: they contained over 7 times more invitations, 2 times more facilitators, and 2 times fewer suggestive questions than the pre-training interviews. These results confirm the value of the French training in the NICHD protocol. However, despite the improvement in quality, there is still room for improvement in questioning: not all trained interviewers use the protocol all the time, and the time that has elapsed since training has led to a deterioration in the quality of questions. To better understand the reasons why French interviewers use or don't use the protocol, we mobilized a model of acceptance and usability of a new technology, the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. We found that the more trained interviewers believe that the protocol help them to interview children better (performance expectation), and that it requires little effort to implement (effort expectation), the more they intend to use the NICHD protocol during interviews. This intention to use the NICHD protocol and the presence of sufficient material and intellectual resources (facilitating conditions) are important predictors of the actual use of the NICHD protocol in interviews. A number of recommendations have been put forward to increase the intention and effective use of the protocol in the field

Texto completo da fonteVictims of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) are at risk of developing multiple symptoms in various spheres of functioning that may continue into adulthood and adversely affect the development and stability of couple relationships (Briere & Runtz, 1993). The nature and extent of this diversity is associated with the quality of support received by the child (Charuvastra & Cloitre, 2008, Godbout & al., 2014). In this context, the purpose of this study is to examine the extent of social support received by adult survivors of CSA and how it is associated with various indicators of couple relationships quality (attachment as well as psychological, sexual and conjugal distress). A sample of 1309 participants currently in a couple relationship was recruited from within the community to answer online questionnaires about CSA, support received following the unveiling of this event, attachment, psychological distress, marital and sexual distress. Of the sample, 19.1% (n = 250) reported having experienced CSA. Of these CSA victims, 15.6% (n = 39) reported receiving support following the unveiling, 17.6% (n = 44) received negative support, while 66.8% (n = 167) never disclosed CSA. Path analyses indicated that, consistent with our assumptions, negative support is associated with greater attachment difficulties (abandonment anxiety and avoidance of intimacy) that are associated with greater psychological, couple and sexual distress. These results show the protective role of perceived support in the development of psycho-sexo-relational consequences following the CSA. These results will contribute to the development of best practices in managing the unveiling of CSA in preventive and therapeutic interventions with couples where one of the partners has experienced this type of abusive experience.

Texto completo da fonteThe deliberate violence with which Algeria has been confronted resulted in a destruction of the links binding the subject with his community and with the community of human beings. The issue raises the questions as to what happens when the child is confronted with devaluated parental representations invalidated in their protective role due to the feeling of helplessness and shame connected with this violence. It also has to be defined how the destruction of links and of the social image of the father who carries social condemnation may have a disruptive effect on the child's identifying points of reference. The relevance of this study resides in its endeavor to understand the intermingle of social and political aspects in their tight links with the psyche ; for this reason, a multidisciplinary approach of the psycho trauma was favored, in order to take into consideration such aspects as subjectivity and its interdependence with social links. In order to better understand the impact of these events, a look to the family traumatic experience was given from the standpoint of parents and of children, with the use of a clinical approach : semi-structured interviews of parents and projective tests for children ; victim's families were taken into account, as well as terrorists' families – as witnesses of the situation. The present work of research exposes the complexity of the psychological trauma in the circumstances of deliberate violence, where the agressors are intimates of those whose purpose is to protect the population. It also exposes the significance of social and legal recognition in order to undertake a possible subjectivation

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis, proceeding from an examination of the results of projective tests aimed at identifying perverse psychic functioning, focuses on paedophiles, more particularly on rapists of young girls, questioning not only the concept of perversion, but equally the idea of rape. Contrary to other approaches, psychoanalysis minimizes and even looks to reject rape from the sexual register, in favour of violence and death instinct. At the conclusion of the theoretic investigations and after listening to the rapists' discourses, three principal hypotheses are set out : any act of rape is a sexual act ; rape is a response to the need to discharge an urge linked to a sexual fantasy ; in paedophiles it's an incestuous fantasy ; faced with arousal of a sexual nature, psychological drives are insufficiently containing. The methodology comprises the taking of projective tests (Rorschach and TAT), an intelligence test (WAIS-R) and semi-structured interviews. To prove the hypotheses, an analytical framework, specific to the prison population under consideration, has been established. In addition, the data is analysed qualitatively and statistically within the framework of psychoanalytic theory. . .

Texto completo da fonteIn order to grasp the social and political dynamics at play in the aftermath of a conflict, this research investigates the memories of the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Drawing on Halbwach’s sociology of memory, social movement theory and the sociology of international relations, it scrutinizes the social conditions for the communication of memories of war camp detention. Based on ethnographic fieldwork and on a large corpus of press archives, judicial testimonies and memoirs, this work questions the widespread view of Bosnian war memories as being divided along ethnonational lines. It first delineates a process of nationalist politicization of public narratives of detention in the 1990s. The international judiciarization of the conflict paradoxically contributed to Bosnian politicians’ and activists’ construction of camp detainees as the epitome of the war witness. However, by moving the focus of analysis to the local level, this research signals the limits of the nationalist politicization of war memories. Former camp detainees do not monolithically reproduce antagonistic interpretations of the war as a genocide or a civil war. Moreover, even though they are imposed a national “duty to testify”, individuals also negotiate with local norms of civility in their face-to-face interactions. Far from waging an ethnonational “memory war”, former camp detainees resort to everyday practices of discretion and avoidance of politicized matters. This research therefore pleads for an understanding of post-war societies that does not only focus on nationalist politics and international peacebuilding interventions, but also on war-affected local practices of civility

Texto completo da fonteThis research aims to objectify violence towards girls and boys inside the family circle, in mainland France. In that regard, this thesis first looks back at the way in which violence on children has been publicly recognized, and how these violent acts have been measured throughout the years. The research is based on the analysis of the study VIRAGE (2015). If violence affects both girls and boys on a large scale, psychological and sexual violence affect girls in larger proportions, and girls suffer from an accumulation of different types of violence. A study on the classification of perpetrators shows that psychological and physical violence reveal an infringement of parental authority on children of both sexes. Sexual violence, on the other hand, is the symbol of masculine dominance appropriating the bodies of children, mostly girls. This study also shows that violence affects all social stratas. However, teenagers who live without one of their parents report having suffered more violence. Although victims speak up about the violence inflicted in the private circle, discussions are often late and the majority of violent acts are underreported to authorities. People who have suffered violence may go through different steps of adult prematurely: first sexual intercourse, first time living outside the home, first pregnancy (for victims of sexual violence) for young women, and first time living outside the home for young men. In addition, violence impact the trajectories (level of education, employment situation, affective life) of people, and may cause fragility or overall absence of well-being, especially for women victims

Texto completo da fonteTo date, the studies have demonstrated some link between victimization and sexual behaviour problems(SBP) among youth. However, empirical findings about youth engaging in sexually abusive behaviours have focused primilary on the role and importance of sexual abuse experiences and SBPs in response to this form of victimization. As a result, a limited number of studies have considered the possibility that these youth have been exposed to polyvictimization. To overcome this important limitation, this study was articulated under three sub-objectives. Thus, this study aims (1) to better contextualize the experience of sexual abuse of youths with SBPs (2) to better understand the developmental trajectories of victimization of these youths, as well as (3) to better understand the influence of sexual abuse and polyvictimization on the continuity of SBPs. The current study is based on the retrospective and longitudinal analysis of data collected since 2002 at the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) de la Capitale- Nationale (Lussier, Chouinard-Thivièrge, McCuish, Nadeau & Lacerte, 2018). In order to meet the objectives of this study, all reports to Child protective service in Quebec between the ages of 0 and 17 were examined among a sample (n = 1034) of children who presented SBPs before the age of 18. The results of the comparative analysis revealed the prevalence as well as the influence of sexual victimization and polyvictimization experienced during childhood and adolescence among children with SBPs. The implications of this study in terms of research, theory and practice, are also discussed. The study highlights the complexity of the traumatic life context in which SBPs manifested by these youth take place.

Texto completo da fonteAfter having introduced the theoretical/clinical research project by a historical backdrop of resilience and the proposition of a conceptual framework, the author attempts to refine and formalize the processes at play in resilience, based on psychoanalytical, theoretical referents. She centres her work on the four modalities liable to ensure a function of protection against adversity, while considering internal factors : The role of the defences of the Self, the richness of the Imagination, the quality of mentalization, and an external factor : The "resilience tutor". The author proceeds with a compared study of contrasted unique cases (12 children that have all undergone the trauma of child abuse). The methodology used herein relies on the analysis of an interview (targeted at appreciating certain characteristics of the resilience tutor) and on that of projective tests (Royer tales, Rorschach test, drawings). The results obtained emphasize the importance of defence mechanisms in the first phase of the resistance against the trauma : They constitute the preliminary stage towards building up the trauma. Insofar as the three other hypotheses are concerned, conformation is somewhat less univocal

Texto completo da fonteFrom spontaneous revelation, to revealing of the body, from immediate to belated revelations, the child's path to revelation of sexual violence, is a path of suffering. Thousands of children go to school everyday and among them are abused children, victims of more or less aggravated sexual violence. There are children who have been abused within the family environment or even within their own school. As school is a space of interactions between adults and children, it is often a privileged sphere words may be spoken, where the child, victim of abuse, may try to reveal his suffering. Revelations of sexual violence in school enter a space which is neither a place of criminal investigation nor a medico-legal institution , nor a therapeutic setting. Such revelations entail a contamination of suffering upon the adult to whom the child has confided, upon the educational institution, in which the complexity of psychical instinctive and fantasy lif of concerned individuals comes into play. The revelation brings to light unconscious positions of the persons it confronts, as well as their instinctive choices, their unresolved œdipal conflicts, and triggers subjective positions which the person may not even be aware. Such revelations bring to light the fragility as well as the weak points in the school institution itself. Our research examines the consequences of such revelations on an interpsychical as well as intersubjective level. We base our analysis on the notion of the traumatic tryptich, that is to say, the consequences for the child victim, for the adult confidante, and for the school institution. Our aim is to understand what can help the revelation process to become a positive event which can give the child the opportunity of living with the trauma of abuse and not merely surviving

Texto completo da fonteObjective : The aims of this study were to identify emotional and behavioral problems presented by adolescents who had been subjected to maltreatment within their family, and to study gender effects on these problems. Method : Adolescents (N = 102 ; 74 boys and 28 girls, aged 13 to 18 years), formerly subjected to neglect, physical and/or sexual abuse, or psychological maltreatment, and living in a social service community home after a judge’s decision, were compared to a non-clinical group of 117 adolescents with the same age and family socio-economic status. All participants were assessed using the Child Behavior Checklist (Achenbach, 1991), a scale which comprises 113 emotional and behavioral problem items. The abused adolescents’ CBCL were rated by social workers having good acquaintance of the adolescents to be described, and the non-clinical controls’ CBCL were filled out by parents. Results : Abused adolescents presented a high level of emotional and behavioral problems pertaining to both internalizing and externalizing groupings of syndromes. They had higher scores on Delinquent Behavior, Aggressive Behavior, Anxious/Depressed, Withdrawn, and Social problems, compared to the non-clinical group. Girls had higher internalizing problems scores and boys had higher externalizing problems scores. Having been subjected to more than one kind of maltreatment was associated with higher level of psychopathology. The Rorschach inkblot test, which was taken only by abused adolescents, revealed mainly problems in interpersonal relationships and moderate formal thought disorder

Texto completo da fontePneumonia is the leading cause of death from infectious diseases in children worldwide. The objectives were to identify the etiologies of community-acquired pneumonia in children under 5 years in emerging and developing countries and the determinants associated with severity in terms of hypoxemia at admission and mortality. A hospital-based multicenter casecontrol study was conducted at 9 sites in the following countries: Cambodia, China, Haiti, India (2 sites), Madagascar, Mali, Mongolia and Paraguay. Cases were hospitalized children aged between 2 and 60 months, with radiologically confirmed pneumonia; a control was a patient from the same center, without any sign suggesting pneumonia. A frequentist matching by period and age category was made. Respiratory samples were taken from all subjects to identify 19 viruses, 5 bacteria and Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes by molecular biology. For cases only, additional blood samples and pleural fluid were performed. The etiologies of pneumonia were estimated by calculating the population-attributable fraction after multivariate logistic regression. The factors associated with hypoxemia at admission were identified in patients with pneumonia by multivariate logistic regression; factors associated with 14-day in-hospital mortality were quantified by bivariate Cox model. Among the 888 cases and 870 controls analyzed, the causative agents of pneumonia after multivariate analysis migth be: Streptococcus pneumoniae, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus, human metapneumovirus (hMPV), parainfluenza virus 1, 3 and 4, influenzavirus A and B, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The adjusted attributable fraction was 42.2% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 35.5-48.2%) for S. pneumoniae, 18.2% (95% CI: 17.4-19.0%) for RSV and 11.2% (95% CI: 7.5-14.7%) for rhinovirus. A significant heterogeneity in etiologies between countries was identified. Among the 405 pneumonia cases analyzed for the study of gravity, 17.3% were hypoxemic. Detection of hMPV or RSV from respiratory samples were independently associated with an increased risk of hypoxemia (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]=2.4, 95% CI: 1.0-5.8; aOR=2.5, 95% CI: 1.1-5.3, respectively). Detection of S. pneumoniae from blood (crude hazard ratio [cHR]=4.6, 95% CI: 1.5- 14.0), procalcitonin ≥50 ng/ml (cHR=22.4, 95 %: 7.3-68.5) and hypoxemia (cHR=4.8, 95% CI: 1.6- 14.4) were predictive of higher hospital mortality; these associations were consistent after adjusting for age, period, center, HIV or nutritional status. The majority of pneumonia in children under 5 years of age in developing countries might be attributable to S. pneumoniae, RSV, rhinovirus and hMPV. Hypoxemic pneumonia in children were related to RSV and hMPV infection while S. pneumoniae-related pneumonia was associated with an increased risk of death. These findings might guide future vaccinal or non vaccinal policies

Two multicentric studies with comparison groups, one using the CECA (Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse) demonstrated the importance of victimisation and precise the occurence of more classic troubles as post-traumatic stress disorder among this population. We also discuss birth as a traumatic event and the occurence of severe troubles as bipolar disorders in this occasion

Texto completo da fonteIf some forms of silence are today the center of attention, other forms such as conjugal violence remain unrevealed and are often considered as private problems. Men violence is affecting fundamental rights in particular the right of liberty and security. Conjugal violence, whatever its forms are, presents some constants. This type of violence is found in oriental and occidental societies but the context differs. If conjugal violence in oriental societies particularly in Lebanon reflects the patriarchy and the social reproduction and the family inheritance, it also shows that the law and the civil codes are in favor of men. The conjugal violence existing in the occidental societies are related to psychological affects and family separations and family problems. In all Middle – Eastern countries like Lebanon, women do not benefit completely from their civil citizenship. They are despoiled of rights, and privileges and security guarantee that they should have access to. Inequitable laws, discriminatory constitutions and cultural prejudice that doesn’t take the woman as an equal citizen, hinder their participation in politics and limit to the women’s economic security going from mobility to social welfare. Unlike the occidental context where the individual unites the base of the country like in France and Canada, family constitutes the base of Arab countries. They tend to confirm that conjugal violence like any form of violence escapes from any social nominations. This violence exists in all societies and even in the most favored regions. And it also exists in all social categories.A cross-cultural approach of this phenomenon is necessary. Factors such as religion or migration launch or justify such type of violence. Psychosocial analysis of several studies made about conjugal violence unveil the latent and the hidden secrets of violent men and abused women

The Multi-sectoral Agreement is a consultation mechanism developed for the purpose of ensuring better protection and providing necessary help to children victims of sexual abuse and physical ill-treatment, or whose physical health is threatened by a lack of appropriate care. In Quebec, its implementation depends primarily on youth centres, prosecutors and the police. Although this Agreement has been in effect for more than ten years, it remains unclear as to whether it accomplishes its intended purpose. This study examines the capacity of such an Agreement to fulfill its protective purpose, for children and their family. The study also intends to show that in certain cases, the implementation of the Agreement can lead to risks of secondary victimization. A descriptive and exploratory quantitative approach served to develop a profile of recent sexual and physical abuse situations addressed by the Multi-sectoral Agreement (N= 222) in Quebec, and to identify the situations that led to criminal charges. The results show that only one fifth of the situations led to charges. The other cases led to the abandonment of litigation or a lack of follow-up, potentially resulting in adverse consequences for clients. These results highlight the importance of reconsidering the needs of children exposed to criminal proceedings.

Texto completo da fonteMost of research conducted on incest victims has aimed to identify and to describe the harmful consequences of such abuse. Results highlight the diversity of the adaptative and non-adaptative responses developed by the victims. This great interpersonal variability suggests to the clinicians the existence of factors involved in the development of harmful symptoms, or, on the contrary, in the enhancing of the resilience process. In this context, the identification of the characteristics and the specificities of the incest victims’ psychological functioning represents the first objective of this exploratory research. The second goal is to identify the protective and risk factors implicated in the psychological distress, the post-traumatic stress symptomatology and the resilience process among incest victims. Finally, considering these factors, our research puts forward two models of the psychological functioning of this population.107 adults who experienced incest took part in the research and answered a set of validated questionnaires. 10 participants participated in a semi-directive interview. Our results suggest intense psychological suffering experienced by the incest victims. Three categories of factors which can act as protective or risk factors were identified. Our exploratory research highlights the complexity of the factors implicated in the psychological functioning of the victims and the importance of the individual, contextual and social resources of the victims. Our results bring to light the levers and the limits of the professional and non-professional care experiences tried by the incest victims
