The action of some foliar herbicides and herbicide combinations for control of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) weeds was studied. To that end against the background of soil applied Stomp 330EK New at a dose of 5 l/ha the herbicides Axial 050EK, Granstar 75DF, Derby Super WG, Sekator OD, Lintur 70WG, and the tank mixtures of Axial with the other herbicides applied in the tillering phenophase of the crop were studied. The species composition and density of weeds was assessed using the quantitative method prior to treatment and after herbicide treatment on days 5, 15 and 30, by constant metering. The herbicide Lintur 70WG and its combination with Axial 050EK had the fastest initial effect. The highest herbicidal effect (99.5%) against annual monocotyledon and dicotyledon weeds showed the combination of Derby Super WG 33 g/ha + Axial 050EK - 900 ml/ha. Very good was the effect of the other herbicidal mixtures between anti-broadleaf herbicides and the graminaceous herbicide Axial 050. All applied herbicides and herbicide mixtures showed a very good after-action on weeds.

The conventional herbicide 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) provide substantial risk to the environment such as contamination of soil and groundwater. The overuse application of conventional herbicide can leave harmful residues in soil and be washed off as runoff, thus causes toxic effect to nontarget organism. For instance, MCPA can cause toxicity to the freshwater organisms such as Daphnia magna and alga Selenastrum capricornutum. Zinc oxide as nanomaterials that are intercalated with 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (ZMCPA) herbicide may be useful to resolve the problems associated with MCPA. Nanoherbicide are known to provide a better penetration of active substances hence reduces the amount of herbicide to be applied. The nanostructured herbicide such as ZMCPA could substantially replace the conventional herbicide MCPA if it able to kill the targeted weeds efficiently and have a low risk to the environment. Therefore, it is important to compare the differences of herbicidal activity of MCPA and ZMCPA. The objective of this research is to determine the effects of MCPA and ZMCPA on growth and pigment content of Sphagneticola trilobata. The 2nd objective of this research is to measure the physiological effect and effectiveness of herbicidal activity between the conventional and nanoformulation against Sphagneticola trilobata. The preliminary study was conducted to determine a minimal concentration for MCPA to exert its effect on Sphagneticola trilobata. Then, in the main research, Sphagneticola trilobata was exposed to different concentrations of MCPA and ZMCPA in low, medium and high concentrations. The effect of MCPA and ZMCPA on growth and pigment content of Sphagneticola trilobata was observed at 7, 14 and 21 days, respectively. The results indicated there were no obvious differences in plant growth and pigment content observed between treatment of MCPA and ZMCPA at the same exposure concentration at 7, 14 and 21 days, respectively. MCPA showed higher herbicide efficacy than ZMCPA. HIGHLIGHTS Nanoherbicide Development: The intercalation of zinc layered hydroxide (ZLH) with MCPA resulted in ZMCPA, a nanoherbicide with improved delivery and penetration capabilities compared to conventional herbicides. Potential Replacement for Conventional Herbicides: Nanostructured herbicides like ZMCPA have the potential to replace conventional herbicides like MCPA due to their numerous benefits in addressing issues associated with traditional herbicides. Comparable Herbicidal Effectiveness: The study evaluated the herbicidal activity of MCPA and ZMCPA on Sphagneticola trilobata and found that both formulations inhibited the growth of the weed to a similar extent after 7, 14, and 21 days, indicating comparable efficacy between the conventional and nanoformulation herbicides. Microorganisms decompose herbicides and they may serve as bioindicators of soil changes following herbicide application. Certain microbial species may be used as bioherbicides. This study has shown that Azotobacter is most sensitive to herbicide application; it is, therefore, a reliable indicator of the biological value of soil. The numbers of this group of nitrogen-fixing bacteria decrease considerably in the period of 7-14 days after herbicide application. Simultaneously, the numbers of Actinomycetes and less so of fungi increase, indicating that these microorganisms use herbicides as sources of biogenous elements. Rate of herbicidal decomposition depends on the properties of the preparation applied herbicide dose as well as on the physical and chemical soil properties, soil moisture and temperature, ground cover, agrotechnical measures applied and the resident microbial population.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is the third most important grain legume crop in the world and the first important legume in the South and West Asia. For Bulgaria the chickpea is an old traditional crop used mainly for human consumption and to a lesser extent for feed. One of the most important yield limiting factors in the chickpea seed production is the poor weed management. The establishment of the most appropriate herbicide or herbicide combination for the effective control especially of the weed flora is a priority task of the chickpea cultivation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different herbicides and herbicidal combinations on weed flora and on the chickpea yield. The herbicides and herbicidal combinations were tested in nine treatments plus one weedy check control. All herbicides were used in pre-emergence applications at different doses. During the study the predominated weeds were Amaranthus retroflexus L. (redroot pigweed) and Convolvulus arvensis L. (field bindweed). Generally, all tested herbicidal combinations showed good control on the mixed weed flora and the grain yield was high. Three herbicidal combinations had the best effect on weed numbers and grain yield compared to the weed check: Clomazone -15 ml/da + S-metolachlor - 120 ml/da; Clomazone - 30 ml/da + S-metolachlor - 60 ml/da and Clomazone - 15 ml/da + Pendimethalin - 500 ml/da. Most of the studied herbicides and herbicidal combinations were tolerant, non-suppressive and showed a high positive effect on the chickpea yield.

The method of two-way analysis of variance in three field experiments in the conditions of the Right Bank of the Saratov Region studied the effect of four herbicides, two new tank mixtures and two new herbicide compositions on grain yield, number of plants per square meter, number of beans per plant, number of grains per plant, plant mass, the mass of beans from the plant, the mass of grain from the plant, the mass of 1000 grains, the protein content in the grain, the height of the plant, the height of attachment of the lower bean. The effectiveness of the herbicides was as follows: frontier optima - 72.5%, pulsar - 26.5%, gezagard - 71.2%, galaxy top - 11.7%, tank mixture frontier optima + gezagard - 86.4%, tank mixture pulsar + galaxy top - 23.0%, composition frontier optima + galaxy top - 73.8%, and composition gezagard + galaxy top - 85.1%. It was established a significant advantage in grain yield of only one new tank mixture of herbicides frontier optima + gezagard and two new compositions of herbicides frontier optima + galaxy top and gezagard + galaxy top. In the case of application of a tank mixture of herbicides, the frontier optima + hezagard yields of soybean grain significantly increased compared with the control by 377.0%, compared with herbicides the frontier optima and hezagard - by 154.0%. After the application of the herbicidal composition, the frontier optima + galaxi top soybean grain yield significantly increased compared with the control by 293.3%, compared with the herbicide frontier optima - by 120.1%, compared with the herbicide galaxy top - by 139.3%. After application of the hezagard + galaxy top herbicide composition, the soybean grain yield significantly increased compared with the control by 294.3%, compared with the hezagard herbicide - by 121.7%, compared with the galaxy top herbicide - by 141.1%.

Frequent use of herbicides may impose a risk on non-target species. The objective was to test the combined toxic effect of binary herbicide mixtures—metribuzin:halosulfuron and metribuzin:flumioxazin—on non-target earthworms in two test systems: filter paper and a soil toxicity test system. The joint action experiments were independently run twice to substantiate the findings. The most potent individual herbicide was metribuzin, with a 50% lethal concentration (LC50) of 17.17 µg ai. cm−2 at 48 h in the filter paper test. The toxicity of the individual herbicides on the filter paper test was ranked as metribuzin>halosulfuron>flumioxazin. In the soil test, metribuzin and halosulfuron had high toxicity with an LC50 of 8.48 and 10.08 mg ai. kg−1, respectively, on day 14. Thus, the individual herbicide ranking did not change between the filter paper and artificial soil tests. The herbicide’s mixed effect in both test systems showed a consistent antagonistic effect relative to a Concentration Addition reference model. It indicates that the mixtures retracted the herbicide’s action in the earthworms.

Fourteen herbicides or herbicide combinations, a wood chip mulch, a chipped rubber tire mulch, and a newspaper mulch were evaluated for weed control efficacy and potential phytotoxicity using 12 species of herbaceous perennials under field-growing conditions. Nineteen herbicides or herbicide combinations were similarly evaluated under container-growing conditions using 11 species of herbaceous perennials. The effect of herbicide application time also was monitored through application of herbicides to dormant and actively growing plants. Herbicides and mulch treatments were compared to weeded and nonweeded controls. Herbicide phytotoxicity effects were dependent on the age and species of the herbaceous perennial and herbicide application timing. Herbicide injury was generally greater for newly established plants compared to established plants. Although injury was usually reduced when herbicides were applied to dormant plants, injury was sometimes greater when herbicides were applied in early spring compared to applications made in late spring after complete herbaceous perennial emergence. This effect resulted in injury to young shoots that had emerged before the earliest possible time that herbicides could be applied in early spring. A wood chip mulch provided the most effective weed control and highest quality plants under field growing conditions. Several of the herbicides evaluated demonstrated potential for weed control in both field and container herbaceous perennial production systems and landscape plantings.

A presença de plantas daninhas pode reduzir severamente o rendimento do sorgo sacarino (Sorghum bicolor), e em função do reduzido número de herbicidas registrados, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de herbicidas no crescimento inicial dessa cultura. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com cinco repetições, sendo o haloxyfop-methyl, cyhalofop-butil, fomesafem, imazaquim, lactofen, atrazine, 2,4-D e saflufenacil aplicados em diferentes doses em pós-emergência inicial da cultura e os herbicidas atrazine, atrazine+simazine, hexazinone e s-metolachlor em pré-emergência da cultura. As avaliações de fitointoxicação foram realizadas aos 7, 14, 21 e 30 dias após a aplicação (DAT) e a biomassa seca da parte aérea avaliada aos 30 DAT. Em pós-emergência, os herbicidas haloxyfop-methyl e imazaquim provocaram alta fitointoxicação e impactos na biomassa das plantas. 2,4-D e atrazine não provocaram diferenças significativas com relação à testemunha tanto em fitointoxicação como na biomassa. O herbicida lactofen provocou baixa fitointoxicação, todavia, saflufenacil e fomesafen promoveram fitointoxicação na dose comercial próximo a 40% e alterações na biomassa. Dos herbicidas utilizados em pré-emergência, apenas hexazinone e s-metolachlor demonstraram fitointoxicação e alterações na biomassa. Conclui-se que os herbicidas atrazine, lactofen e 2,4-D podem ser utilizados em aplicações em pós-emergência, e atrazine e atrazine+simazine em pré-emergência.Palavras-chave: fitointoxicação, Sorghum bicolor, pré-emergente, pós-emergente. EFFECT OF HERBICIDES ON THE INITIAL GROWTH OF SWEET SORGHUM ABSTRACT: The presence of weeds may severely reduce yield of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), and due to the reduced number of herbicides registered, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of herbicides on the initial growth of this crop. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replicate, being, the herbicides haloxyfop-methyl, cyhalofop-butyl, fomesafem, imazaquim, lactofen, atrazine, 2,4-D and saflufenacil were applied at different initial post-emergence rates and herbicides atrazine, atrazine + simazine, hexazinone and s- metolachlor in pre-emergence of the culture. The phytointoxication evaluations were performed at 7, 14, 21 and 30 days after application (DAT) and the dry biomass of the aerial part evaluated at 30 DAT. In post-emergence, the herbicides haloxyfop-methyl and imazaquim caused high phytointoxication and impacts on plant biomass. 2,4-D and atrazine did not cause significant differences in relation to the control in both phytointoxication and biomass. The herbicide lactofen caused low phytointoxication, however, saflufenacil and fomesafen promoted phytointoxication at commercial dose close to 40% and changes in biomass. Of the herbicides used in pre-emergence, only hexazinone and s-metolachlor demonstrated phytointoxication and changes in biomass. It is concluded that the herbicides atrazine, lactofen and 2,4-D can be used in post-emergence applications, and pre-emergence atrazine and atrazine + simazine.Keywords: phytointoxication, Sorghum bicolor, pre-emergent, post-emergent.

Unexpected rainfall before herbicide absorption by plants can wash away herbicides from plant tissue surfaces, which may reduce the herbicidal efficacy and increase the adverse effects on nontarget organisms and the environment, including water networks. The objective of this study was the evaluation of the effect of chitosan on paraquat efficacy under simulated rainfall conditions. Simulated rainfall within 3 h after paraquat application decreased its herbicidal efficacy. A mixture of paraquat (280 g a.i./ha) and chitosan (0.05% w/v) significantly increased the herbicidal efficacy against Ageratum conyzoides L. (21% increase), Borreria alata Aubl. (15%) and Paspalum conjugatum Bergius (8%) under the rainfall conditions. The chemical structure of chitosan may contribute to the penetration of paraquat into plant tissues. However, a mixture of paraquat and chitosan did not affect the herbicidal efficacy against Imperata cylindrica (L.) Beauv. The morphological characteristics of I. cylindrica may interfere with the enhancement effect of chitosan. Chitosan is a degradable, nontoxic and easily available and low-cost material made from crustacean shells. These results suggest that chitosan may increase paraquat efficacy against some noxious weed species under rainfall conditions, which may reduce the risk of paraquat contamination into the environment. Therefore, the application of herbicides with chitosan may provide the economic and environmental benefits. Chitosan may enhance the efficacy of other herbicides under unexpected rainfall conditions; however, this possibility requires further investigation.

A long term experiment was conducted at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Regional Research Station, Uchani (Karnal), India. Assessment of fix and rotational herbicides with and without green manure on the microbial population were studied in wheat crop during 2017-18. The treatments included fix/continuous herbicide (Clodinafop) and rotational herbicide (Sulfosulfuron) to control weeds along with weed free and weedy checks. Rhizosphere samples of wheat were collected from different plots of fixed and rotational herbicides treated soil to assess the total bacterial count, phosphate solubilizing microorganisms, actinobacteria, fungi and free-living diazotrophs. Weed free and weedy check served as check (control) for total microbial populations in the soil. Initially, herbicidal application showed negative effect on the soil microbes but retain the number later on as compared to weedy check under both conditions. But the effects of the herbicides on the micro flora in soil could be nullified through green manure.

Significant onion height reduction was observed when Prowl (pendimethalin) and Prefar (bensulide) herbicide combinations were applied preemergence (PREE). The onions resumed growth but the height was still slightly reduced later in the growing season compared to the handweeded check and the standard herbicide treatment, Dacthal (DCPA). The onion crop stand emerged initially but later in the season, a significant crop stand reduction was observed for the higher rate of Prowl at 0.5 lb AI/A plus Prefar. A lower rate of Prowl at 0.25 lb AI/A plus Prefar also caused a reduction of the onion stand compared to the handweeded check or Dacthal.

Resumo: O herbicida nicosulfuron se destaca entre os principais utilizados em pós-emergência na cultura do milho. Dentre as tecnologias disponíveis no mercado, alguns híbridos podem ser considerados tolerantes ao nicosulfuron, e essa sensibilidade diferencial está relacionada com o ambiente, o estádio de desenvolvimento da planta e a dose de herbicida utilizada. A seletividade de herbicidas é geralmente determinada em função da fitointoxicação e do efeito do produto nas características morfológicas e fisiológicas das plantas. De modo que o objetivo do trabalho foi determinar a sensibilidade de híbridos de milho ao herbicida nicosulfuron por meio de marcadores bioquímicos. O primeiro experimento foi conduzido em casa-de-vegetação com delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado com 4 repetições em esquema fatorial 4 x 2 (híbridos x doses), o herbicida foi aplicado nas doses 0 e 120 g i.a. ha-1 quando as plantas se encontravam no estádio fenológico V3. Foram realizadas avaliações da taxa de transporte de elétrons (ETR), fitointoxicação e altura aos 1, 3, 7 e 14 dias após a aplicação (DAA). Aos 14 DAA as plantas foram coletadas para determinação da massa seca. Dentre os híbridos utilizados selecionou-se o mais sensível e o mais tolerante para a realização de análises de determinação dos teores do ácido aminobutírico, e dos aminoácidos valina, leucina e isoleucina, nesses mesmos períodos de avaliação. Abstract: Nicosulfuron stands out among the principal post-emergent herbicides used in the maize crop. Among the commercial technologies available, there are some hybrids considered tolerant to this molecule and can present a differential sensitivity, process which is related to the environment, growth stage and herbicide dose. The objective of the study was to determine the sensitivity of corn hybrids to the herbicide nicosulfuron by means of biochemical markers. The first experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions in a completely randomized design with four replications in a factorial scheme 4 x 2 (hybrids x doses). The herbicide was applied at 0 and 120 g a.i. ha-1, when the plants were in the V3 stage. Electron transport rate (ETR), phytointoxication and plant height were evaluated at 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after treatment (DAT). Plants were collected at 14 DAT to determine its dry weight. The most sensitive and tolerant hybrids were selected to determinate the content of 2-aminobutyric acid and valine, leucine and isoleucine amino acids, in the same evaluation period. The second experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with five replications in a factorial scheme 8 x 2 (hybrids x doses), the nicosulfuron was applied at 0 and 120 g a.i. ha-1. The experiment was conducted in different periods, for V2 and V6 maize growing stage. One day after the herbicide application, the plants were collected to determine the content of nicosulfuron, 2-aminobutyric and quinic acid, as well as valine, leucine and isoleucine amino acids. During the experiment, the ETR was evaluated at 1, 7, 10, 14, 21 and 28 DAT, and the variables plant height and phytointoxication at 7, 14, 21 and 28 DAT. O eucalipto é a espécie florestal mais utilizada em reflorestamento no país, em virtude do rápido crescimento das plantas, condições climáticas e tecnologias desenvolvidas. Porém, a interferência das plantas daninhas causa grandes prejuízos, decréscimo quantitativo e qualitativo da produção do eucalipto. Entre as possibilidades de manejo de plantas daninhas, o método químico é o mais utilizado, porém, poucos são os herbicidas registrados para a cultura do eucalipto, entre os quais o glyphosate é o mais usado por controlar um grande número de espécies. Existem poucos trabalhos a respeito dos efeitos diretos e indiretos do glyphosate nesta espécie florestal. Neste trabalho, clones de eucalipto urograndis foram submetidos ao contato direto com o glyphosate e indireto por meio de aplicação sobre plantas de Brachiaria decumbens, visando caracterizar o movimento do herbicida, exsudação radicular e seus efeitos na planta. Foram realizadas avaliações de intoxicação visual do eucalipto aos 7, 14 e 21 DAA e da massa da matéria seca das plantas aos 21 DAA. Também foram realizadas quantificações por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência e espectrometria de massas (LC-MS/MS) em diferentes partes das plantas (superior e inferior) dos seguintes compostos: glyphosate, ácido amimetilfofônico (AMPA), ácido chiquímico, chiquimato-3-fosfato, fenilalanina, tirosina e triptofano. O glyphosate foi detectado nas plantas de eucalipto para os tratamentos com a aplicação direta e indireta do herbicida e houve translocação para os locais que não foram atingidos na aplicação, mesmo quando aplicado sobre a B. decumbens, entretanto o AMPA não foi. However, interference by the weeds cause major damage, the quantitative and qualitative decrease in production of eucalyptus. Among the weed management possibilities, the chemical method is the most used, however, there are few herbicides registered for eucalyptus cultivation, in which glyphosate is most commonly used to control a large number of species. There are few studies regarding the direct and indirect effects of the glyphosate on this forest species. In this paper, Eucalyptus urograndis clones were subjected to direct contact with glyphosate and indirectly through application on Brachiaria decumbens plants, aiming to characterize the movement of the herbicide, root exudation and its effects on the plant. A series of experiments provided data to parameterize and validate a coupled herbicide fate and target plant species effects model. This simulation model is currently designed to predict responses of water hyacinth populations to treatments of the dimethylamine formulation of 2,4- dichloro-phenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D -DMA). Experiments investigated 1) the response of water hyacinth to varying exposures of 2,4-D (DMA); 2) the role of water hyacinth density and herbicide interception in treatment effectiveness using 2,4-D (DMA); and 3) the importance of root exposure to obtain control of water hyacinth using 2,4- D (DMA). Results demonstrated the importance of leaf or canopy interception of 2,4-D (DMA) sprays in obtaining control of water hyacinth populations. The critical threshold plant tissue concentration of 2,4-D (DMA) required to elicit maximum mortality (98%) was estimated to be approximately 12 mg 2,4-D per kg water hyacinth tissue (wet weight). Root uptake apparently plays little or no role in the effectiveness of this herbicide for controlling water hyacinth growth. Validation trials illustrated the efficacy of the current model. The model was validated with data from a field operation. This research has provided considerable insight into optimal use of this auxin-type herbicide for control of water hyacinth, a monocotyledon.

Haloxyfop-methyl 2-[4-[ [3-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl] oxy] phenoxy] propanoate, fluazifop-butyl (±)-2-[4-[ [5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl] oxy] phenoxy] propanoate, and sethoxydim 2- [1-(ethoxyimino)butyl]-5- [2-(ethylthio)propyl] -3-hydroxy-2-cyclohexen-1-one modified chloroplast pigment, growth, anatomy, and ultrastructure of pre- and postemergent-treated wheat (Triticum aestivum 'Pavon 76') seedlings. Seedlings were grown under 16 h photoperiod (105 μE/M²/S) at 32/24 C day/night temperature. Pigment, growth and anatomical studies were made on pre- and postemergent-treated seedlings. Postemergent treatments were applied to 6-day-old seedlings. Carotenoid levels were reduced by 90 to 94% in preemergent-treated seedlings at 5 x 10⁻⁵ M for each herbicide. Postemergent application of 10⁻³ M haloxyfop-methyl and sethoxydim caused a reduction of 11 and 15% in carotenoid concentration than the control, respectively. Also, they produced a significant reduction in chlorophyll a and total chlorophyll concentration. Preemergent treatment with 5 x 10⁻⁶ M of each herbicide caused a reduction of 78 to 91% in leaf fresh weight and 72 to 84% reduction in root dry weight as compared to the control. Height of the seedlings was reduced by 79 to 86% of the control. Postemergent treatments with 10⁻³ M of each herbicide reduced the length of the second leaf by 98%, whereas length of the first leaf was reduced by 36% following haloxyfop-methyl treatment and 45% following fluazifop-butyl or sethoxydim treatments. Fresh weight of leaf tissue treated with 10⁻³ M of each herbicide was reduced by 40%. Preemergent treatment of the seedlings with 3 x 10⁻⁶ and 5 x 10⁻⁶ M haloxyfop-methyl or with 5 x 10⁻⁶ M fluazifop-butyl or sethoxydim caused 35 to 50% enlargement of mesophyll cells as compared to the control. These cells appeared to contain less cytoplasm. Post- emergent application of 10⁻³ M of each herbicide caused swelling of mesophyll cells. Ultrastructural studies showed that plastids of seedlings germinated in 5 x 10⁻⁶ M of each herbicide were disrupted, swollen, and lacked internal thylakoids but contained masses of plastoglobuli. The chloroplasts of postemergent-treated seedlings had fewer granal and intergranal thylakoids, but the injury to plastids was less severe than in preemergent treatments.

Euphorbia heterophylla (EPHHL) é uma importante planta daninha na agricultura mundial, e a resistência aos herbicidas dificulta ainda mais o seu controle. Assim, conhecer o nível de resistência, os seus mecanismos e a persistência destas populações resistentes nas lavouras é fundamental para o estabelecimento de estratégias de prevenção e manejo. Foram realizados experimentos, objetivando estudar a resistência de EPHHL aos herbicidas inibidores da ALS e PROTOX nos níveis bioquímico, de planta e populacional. O capítulo I objetivou confirmar a ocorrência de resistência aos inibidores da ALS e determinar se existe resistência cruzada aos herbicidas dos grupos químicos das imidazolinona, sulfoniluréia, pirimidil-benzoato e sulfonanilida em biótipos de EPHHL com resistência múltipla (ALS e PROTOX). O capítulo II objetivou confirmar a existência de novos biótipos de EPHHL com resistência a PROTOX nos estados do Paraná e Rondônia e determinar se existe resistência cruzada aos herbicidas dos grupos químicos difeniléteres, ftalamida, triazolinona, oxadiazol e pirimidinedione. O capítulo III objetivou comparar a atividade da enzima ALS de biótipos com resistência múltipla com biótipo suscetível, na ausência e na presença dos herbicidas inibidores enzimáticos imazapyr, imazethapyr e nicosulfuron. O capítulo IV objetivou caracterizar as atividades das enzimas peroxidase, catalase e superóxido dismutase, em biótipos de EPHHL suscetível e com resistência múltipla, pela aplicação de herbicidas inibidores da PROTOX. E o capítulo V objetivou identificar a persistência de populações resistentes aos inibidores da ALS de EPHHL em lavouras da região Sudoeste e Oeste do Paraná que apresentavam resistência em levantamento prévio e verificar a existência de resistência de EPHHL ao glifosato nestas lavouras. Os resultados destes capítulos confirmaram que os biótipos de EPHHL Bom Sucesso do Sul, Vitorino, Vilhena e Medianeira, com suspeita de resistência múltipla aos inibidores da ALS e PROTOX, apresentam a resistência aos herbicidas inibidores da ALS e da PROTOX e esta sendo cruzada aos 4 grupos químicos dos inibidores da ALS e aos 5 grupos químicos dos inibidores da PROTOX, testados. A resistência dos biótipos de EPHHL aos inibidores da ALS é atribuída à menor sensibilidade da enzima a estes herbicidas. A atividade das enzimas antioxidantes superóxido dismutase, peroxidase e catalase, para os biótipos resistentes e suscetível é dependente do herbicida e da dose utilizada e pode ser um dos mecanismos envolvidos na resistência aos inibidores da PROTOX. Os biótipos de EPHHL resistentes aos herbicidas inibidores da ALS permanecem nas áreas mesmo após longo período de constatação da resistência. Plantas de EPHHL com resistência aos inibidores da PROTOX também permanecem nas áreas, no entanto em menor frequência.
Euphorbia heterophylla (EPHHL) is an important weed species in world agriculture and its control becomes difficult due to herbicide resistance. To develop proper EPHHL management strategies it is important to know the level and the mechanisms of resistance and persistence of resistant populations in the fields. Experiments were carried out to study the resistance of EPHHL to ALS and PROTOX inhibitors at biochemical, plant and population levels. The objectives on chapter I are to confirm the occurrence of resistance to ALS inhibitors and to determine whether there is cross resistance to other chemical groups, such as imidazolinone, sulfonylurea, pyrimidinyl (thio) benzoates and triazolopyrimidines in biotypes of EPHHL with multiple resistance (ALS and PROTOX). The objectives on chapter II are to confirm the existence of new EPHHL biotypes with resistance PROTOX in the states of Paraná and Rondônia and to determine whether there is cross resistance to other chemical group, such as diphenyl ethers, N-phenyl-phthalimide, triazolinone, oxadiazole and pyrimidinedione. The objectives on chapter III are to evaluate the activity of the ALS enzyme from biotypes with multiple resistance and to compare it to the enzyme activity of susceptible population in the absence and in the presence of the herbicides imazapyr, imazethapyr and nicosulfuron. The objectives on chapter IV is to characterize the activity of several antioxidant enzymes, such as peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase in EPHHL biotypes treated with PROTOXinhibiting herbicides. The objective on chapter V are to identify the persistence of EPHHL populations resistant to ALS inhibitors on fields from Southwest and Western Paraná that were resistant in a previous survey and check for resistance to glyphosate in EPHHL these crops. The results support the hypothesis that EPHHL biotypes from Bom Sucesso do Sul, Vitorino, Vilhena and Medianeira have multiple resistance to ALS and PROTOX inhibitors. Four EPHHL biotypes are cross-resistant to all ALS chemical groups and five populations are cross-resistant to the PROTOX inhibitors tested. The resistance to ALS inhibitors on the EPHHL biotypes evaluated is attributed to the lower sensitivity of the herbicide target enzyme. The activity of all antioxidant enzymes, both on the resistant and susceptible biotypes, is dependent of the herbicide and on the dose used and can be one of the mechanisms of resistance to PROTOX inhibitors. The biotypes of EPHHL resistant to ALS-inhibiting herbicides remain in the area even after long-term observation of resistance. The resistance to PROTOX inhibitors also remains in areas, but less frequently.

O efeito benéfico de subdoses de substâncias tóxicas é conhecido há muito tempo e este fenômeno é chamado de hormesis. Em agricultura, muitos são os casos de herbicidas que em doses normais causam severas injurias nas plantas, mas que em doses muito baixas promovem o crescimento de estruturas das plantas ou promovem outros efeitos benéficos, como aumento do teor de proteína em plantas. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito de hormesis dos herbicidas glyphosate, amicarbazone, mesotrione, imazapic e carfentrazone em soja, além de explorar se o efeito de hormesis na soja é afetado por um pré-tratamento com baixas doses de glyphosate e mais tarde exposta as mesmas doses ou doses maiores. Para isso, três experimentos distintos foram conduzidos, sendo que no primeiro, sete doses do herbicida glyphosate (0; 1,8; 3,6; 7,2; 36; 180 e 720 g e.a.ha-1 ) foram aplicadas sobre as plantas de soja e avaliadas quanto à taxa de transporte de elétrons (ETR), acúmulo de compostos químicos alterados em função da ação do glyphosate (ácido chiquímico, ácido benzoico, ácido salicílico, AMPA, fenilalanina, tirosina e triptofano) e massa de matéria seca das plantas. No segundo experimento, foi feito um pré-tratamento das plantas com subdoses do glyphosate (0; 1,8; 3,6 e 7,2 g e.a. ha-1 ) no estádio V2 e 14 dias após esta aplicação, as plantas receberam uma segunda aplicação de diferentes doses do glyphosate (0; 1,8; 3,6; 7,2; 36; 180 e 720 g e.a. ha-1 ) e posteriormente avaliadas quanto ao acúmulo de massa de matéria seca e ácido chiquímico. The beneficial effect of low doses of toxic substances is known a long time and this phenomenon is called hormesis. In agriculture, there are many cases of herbicides that in normal rates cause severe injuries in plants, but in very low doses promote the growth of plant structures or other beneficial effect such as increase in the protein content in plants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of hormesis of glyphosate, amicarbazone, mesotrione, imazapic and carfentrazone in soybean, in addition to exploring if the effect of hormesis in soybeans is affected by a pretreatment with low doses of glyphosate and later expose to the same doses or higher. For this, three separate experiments were carried out, and on the first one seven doses of glyphosate (0; 1.8; 3.6; 7.2; 36; 180 and 720 g a.e.ha-1 ) were applied to the soybean plants and evaluated the electron transport rate (ETR), the chemical compounds resulting from the action of glyphosate (shikimic acid, benzoic acid, salicylic acid, AMPA , phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan) and hormesis effect on the dry weight of plants. The second experiment was made a pretreatment of soybean plants with low doses of glyphosate (0; 1.8; 3.6 and 7.2 g a.e.ha-1) in the V2 stage and 14 days later the plants received a second application of different doses of glyphosate (0; 1.8; 3.6; 7.2; 36; 180 e 720 g a.e.ha-1 ) and subsequently evaluated the dry weight of plants and shikimic acid. In the third experiment, was tested a full dose-response of the herbicides amicarbazone, mesotrione, imazapic and carfentrazone on soybean plants and evaluated the ETR and dry weight. O trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a influência de diferentes intervalos de tempo de chuva após a aplicação dos herbicidas clethodim, quizalofope -p- metilico e haloxifope em pós-emergência no controle de quatro espécies de plantas daninhas: B. decumbens, B. plantaginea, Cenchrus echinatus e Zea mays na cultura da soja. O delineamento experimental adotado foi inteiramente ao acaso e os tratamentos distribuídos em esquema fatorial 3 x 6 (três herbicidas e seis intervalos de tempo de chuva), totalizando dezoito tratamentos e quatro repetições, para cada espécie de planta daninha. Quatro experimentos foram conduzidos em casa de vegetação com duas plantas por vaso, no município de Pereiras, SP. As aplicações dos herbicidas foram realizadas em horários diferentes no decorrer do dia, de modo a obter os diferentes intervalos de tempo para simulação de chuva sobre as plantas. Foram realizadas avaliações de controle aos dias 3, 7, 14, 21 e 28 dias após a aplicação (DAA) dos herbicidas. Após a aplicação dos herbicidas as plantas daninhas foram submetidas a uma lâmina de chuva de 20 mm em cinco intervalos de tempo (15, 30, 60, 120 e 240 min.) e sem chuva (tratamento herbicida controle), mais o tratamento adicional sem chuva e sem aplicação de herbicida (testemunha). Ao final de cada avaliação para cada espécie vegetal foi determinado o acúmulo de biomassa das plantas. Diante do exposto verificou-se que os intervalos de chuva interferem negativamente na ação dos herbicidas para o controle da plantas e que os herbicidas quizalofope-p-metilico e haloxifope foram os que mais se destacaram no controle das plantas.
The study aimed to evaluate the influence of different time intervals of rainfall after the application of herbicide clethodim, haloxyfope and quizalofope-p-methyl, in post-emergence control of four weed species: B. decumbens, B. plantaginea, Cenchrus echinatus and Zea mays on soybeans. The experimental design was completely randomized and treatments arranged in a factorial scheme 3 x 6 (three herbicides and six time intervals of rain), totaling eighteen treatments and four replications for each weed species. Four experiments were conducted at a greenhouse with two plants per pot in the municipality of Pereiras, SP. Herbicide applications were made at different times during the day, in order to obtain different time intervals to simulate rain on the plants. Control evaluations at days 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28, were performed after application (DAA) of herbicides. After herbicide application the weeds were submitted to a slide of rain of 20 mm in five time intervals (15, 30, 60, 120 and 240 min) and no rain (herbicide treatment control), plus an additional treatment with no rain and without herbicide (control). At the end of each assessment for each species was determined the accumulation of plant biomass. With the results above it was found that the ranges of rain negatively interferes with the action of herbicides to control plants and herbicide quizalofope-p-methyl and haloxyfope were the most outstanding in plants control.

results of research on the effect of anti-slag herbicides: Axial, CE, Verdict, VDG, Lastik exstra, EС, Pallas 45, MD on spring wheat Agata in the Moscow region are presented. The research was performed in 2019 on the fields of the Nemchinovka research center. Infestation was represented by two types of monocotyledonous weeds from the Bluegrass family (Grasses): annual bluegrass (Póa Annua) and barn grass (Echinóchloa crus-gálli). The use of anti-slag herbicides reduces the number of weeds in the experiment and their air-dry mass. Herbicide treatment increased the wheat grain yield by 1.19-1.67 t / ha and increased protein by 0.5-3.3%.

The effect of the identified auxin-producing strain of bacteria on wheat plants when treated with the herbicides Chistalan and Nanometh in the field was studied. The ability of bacterial treatment to increase wheat yield under herbicidal stress due to the positive effect of bacteria on plant growth and development at early stages of development is shown.

Abstract The objective of this research project is to eliminate the spray drift caused by crosswind. Spray drift is an important problem for the agricultural industry. Some herbicides (e.g. Dicamba) can cause serious damage if it drifts to nearby crops that are not genetically modified to withstand those herbicides. Our hypothesis is that the nozzle geometry and the injection angle can be actively/passively controlled to compensate for the crosswind velocity and effectively deliver the herbicides to the target area. The measurements include the breakup regime transitions, the droplet sizes, and the droplets trajectory as function of the wind speed and the injection angle. The current results show that the crosswind modifies the primary breakup mechanism from sheet breakup regime (i.e. thinning and fragmentation of the liquid sheet into ligaments) to bag breakup regime (i.e. the formation bags along the downstream side of liquid sheet) resulting in smaller drop sizes and an increased drift flux. Techniques to eliminate the bag breakup regime are presented.

In this study a gasoline powered hexa-copter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been designed as a solution to farmers’ need for a low cost, easy to maintain, long flight duration, and multi-purpose means of specific aerial applications for insecticides and herbicides. Application of herbicides and pesticides by airplane is an example of how farmers have used technology to improve their bottom line and overall quality of life. Fields can now be sprayed in under an hour instead of consuming an entire day. However, if a producer has noxious weeds in only a small area, fixed-wing aerial application cannot be used as it is only accurate enough to do an entire field. Currently there is no solution for small scale, accurate, aerial herbicide application to meet this need. The currently available Yamaha Rmax UAV costs a tremendous amount of money and also requires a lot of money to maintain. Though it may be useful in large scale aerial spraying on the farm land, it would not be used in targeted specific areas as it is not efficient in specific applications. The gasoline powered hexacopter UAV designed in this study is a low cost solution to farmers’ need for specific aerial applications of insecticides and herbicides. The UAV design can carry 2–3 gallons of herbicide (16.7–25.0 lbs.) for a flight time of more than 30 minutes without refueling. The design could be transported in a 60.3in × 56.7in pickup bed. Structural and fatigue analyses are performed on the complete structure using state of the art software SolidWorks Simulation. The minimum factor of safety is obtained to be 10 based on maximum von Mises stress failure criteria. Under normal conditions with an estimated commercial use of 100 cycles per day it is observed that the design would survive for about 13 years without any fatigue failure. A drop test analysis is performed to ensure the design can survive a 5 feet freefall and a frequency analysis is also performed to observe the critical natural frequency of the structure. Flow simulations are performed on the 6 propellers/blades model using state of the art software SolidWorks Flow Simulation to observe the effect of vorticity interactions on the lift force. The design has been reasonably optimized based on maximizing the lift force. With this new UAV design small scale and substantial farmers could afford a personal UAV for aerial applications with a small amount of capital whose absence hindered efficient and effective specific aerial application for many years.

When testing a protective – stimulating and herbicides means acceptable to the technology of cultivation flax, it is established that the growth regulators – Lostor and Artaphit – effective against bacterioosis (Bacillus macerans Schr.), аnthracnose (Colletotrichum lini Manns et Bolley), mottle /ozoniose/ (Ozonium vinogradovi Kudr.) flax and contribute increasing the yild of flax and hemp. New biological product developed by us (mix the inoculum of smut /uroczistose/ qack grass (Urocystis agropyri /P./S.) and fragrant rust (Puccinia suaveollens /Pers./) bristly Thistle – reduced contamination of crops called weeds of flax and hemp.

Foliar delivery of herbicides is a common means for plant management in aquatic environments. Though this technique is decades old, little is known about vegetative spray retention relative to this application method. A more complete understanding of maximizing herbicide retention could lead to improved plant management while simultaneously decreasing pesticide load in aquatic environments. Therefore, outdoor mesocosm experiments were conducted in 2020 to evaluate the effect of adjuvant type on foliar spray retention in waterhyacinth [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms]. Additionally, the effect of carrier volume on spray retention in waterhyacinth, waterlettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.), and giant salvinia (Salvinia molesta D.S. Mitchell) was documented. Spray deposition did not differ among the nine adjuvants tested; however, spray retention was reduced 6% to 11% when an adjuvant was excluded from the spray solution. The effect of carrier volume on spray retention in waterhyacinth, waterlettuce, and giant salvinia was also investigated. Decreases in spray retention were most sensitive to increased carrier volume in waterhyacinth, followed by giant salvinia and waterlettuce. Among species, spray retention potential, as determined by intercept estimates, was greatest in waterlettuce and giant salvinia regardless of carrier volume. Asymptotes estimates for waterhyacinth, waterlettuce, and giant salvinia were 33%, 46%, and 79% spray retention, respectively. In other words, spray retention was the lowest and remained relatively constant at these values for the high carrier volumes tested (935 and 1,870 L ha⁻¹), which were likely due to the presence of pubescence on leaves and flatter leaf architecture represented by waterlettuce and giant salvinia compared to the glabrous vertical leaves of waterhyacinth. Future research will evaluate these concepts under field condition.
