Life time distribution of warranted product, for example like automobile and photocopier is an interesting studies. Based on the fact that mostly, life distribution of warranted product is somewhat skewed to the right, this suggests that usual failure distribution such as Weibull distribution may provide a reasonable fit to the data. Related to these studies, parameter estimation is directly applicable since life distribution function is a function of parameters. There are no closed solution for Weibull likelihood function maximation. Therefore, numerical approximation could be an alternative solution. In this paper, Newton-Raphson and bisection method were employed to estimate the scale and shape parameter of Weibull distribution for photocopier failure data for since 4,5 years. Performance of those method were compared based on their approximation result and how fast they get into the solution. Data were taken from Bulmer and Eccleston (2003) research about photocopier realibility model.

The 1983 Mental Health Act gave increased responsibility to the Mental Health Act Commission and the Mental Health Review Tribunal to ensure safeguards in the treatment and detention of patients compulsorily admitted to hospital. Although most are agreed that the civil rights of patients admitted to hospital against their will are better protected under the new Act, some psychiatrists are irritated by the necessity to involve these bodies in what they regard as primarily clinical management. The North-East Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists believed that debate on this issue might benefit both psychiatrists and others involved and this topic was chosen for the Annual Meeting of the Division in York on 28 September 1990. The meeting attracted other mental health care professionals and of the 144 participants almost one-third were not psychiatrists, but mainly social workers and psychologists. The sessions were chaired by the President of the College and Professor Donald Eccleston.

Cheshire, settled by Anglo-Saxons in the later seventh century, has many placenames of British origin, as well as Irish place-names given by tenth-century migrants from Ireland. Twenty-seven real or supposed instances are discussed here: Arclid, Antrobus, Arrow, Bollin, Brynn, Cilgwri, Crewe, Dane, Dee, Eccleston, Goyt, Ince, Landican, Liscard, Lostock, Lyme, Mellor, Mottram, Noctorum, Peover, Rhedynfre, Tarvin, Tintwistle, Tybrunawt/Tybrunawg, Weaver, Werneth, Wheelock. Ten of them are provided with derivations at variance with The Cambridge Dictionary of English Place-Names and other handbooks. Also discussed are three Welsh forms (Cilgwri, Rhedynfre, Tybrunawt/Tybrunawg) sometimes related to Cheshire. Although the second is certainly Farndon in the county’s south-west, the first and third have no Cheshire link. Cilgwri may be identified as a place near Corwen, Denbighshire. Tybrunawt/Tybrunawg or ‘Brunian House, House on (the River) Browney’, a book-name for the location of the Battle of Brunanburh in 937, should be identified with the Roman fortress of Lanchester above the River Brune or Browney, Co. Durham. Hence Brunanburh means ‘fortress of the Browney’. Other historical information is provided by Arclid, apparently the Arecluta where the British-Latin writer Gildas was born in 493. Analysis of toponyms thus provides new data on Cheshire’s past, while refuting earlier theories.

IntroductionAttention plays an important rol in pain perception. Focusing attention in pain intensifies the painful experience whereas distraction may decrease its subjective sensation (Eccleston & Crombez, 1999).The purpose of the two studies is to establish the efficacy of distraction by means of VR in the control and reduction of pain using the cold-pressor test. In both studies threshold, tolerance, perceived pain intensity and time estimation were measured.Study 137 healthy participants were induced pain in two consecutive immersions using the cold-pressor test. The experiment was counterbalanced and all participants went through two experimental conditions: VR (stereoscopic screen) and black screen. A virtual environment “Surreal World” was designed based on distraction of attention techniques. Results showed that VR significantly increased threshold and tolerance, diminished pain intensity and perception of time.Study 235 healthy participants underwent two consecutive immersions using cold pressor: VR (using the updated version of Surreal World and 3D laptops) and black screen. VR significantly increased the threshold and tolerance, whereas variations in the estimation of time were barely significant.Differences in the results of the two studies could be accounted for by the immersive effect of the stereoscopic screen. Findings are discussed in relation to previous studies on VR and pain. Results support VR as an adjunctive method in pain treatment and allow proving its efficacy in patients with chronic pain.

In a series of sketches by Elizabeth Gaskell, which appeared in Charles Dickens's weekly periodical Household Words between 1851 and 1853, the small Cheshire town of Knutsford was immortalized under the name Cranford. Mrs Gaskell, who had spent most of her childhood in Knutsford, knew the town and its inhabitants intimately and she returned to it as the setting for some of her later works, in which she called it ‘Eccleston’, ‘Dunscombe’ and ‘Hollingford’. Each of these four fictional names is convincing enough as the name of a small provincial town. Three of the names, indeed, are borne by settlements elsewhere in England, and the fourth, ‘Hollingford’, is close enough in form to the genuine names Hollington and Hollingworth to be acceptable. On her marriage, Elizabeth Gaskell had moved from Knutsford to Manchester and she exploited this commercial city, too, as the setting for some of her works. Her first published novel, Mary Barton (1848), actually bore the subtitle ‘A Tale of Manchester Life’, but in later works the city appears under the fictional names ‘Drumble’ and ‘Milton’. Milton is a name which occurs quite frequently in England, although never as the name of a large city. Drumble is an artificial name – presumably a portmanteau word containing the words drear and rumble, which antedates Lewis Carroll's first exploitation of this device in a handwritten version of the poem Jabberwocky from 1855. Elizabeth Gaskell is not the only author to have coined a fictional name for Manchester in the course of time. Charles Dickens referred to it as ‘Coketown’ in Hard Times (1854), for example, and Louis Golding as ‘Doomington’ in Magnolia Street (1931).

Low temperature molten sodium batteries with sodium metal anodes, NaSICON solid-state separators, and sodium halide salt catholytes are low cost, earth-abundant technologies for grid-scale energy storage.1-3 We compared batteries with NaI/AlCl3-based molten salt catholytes of differing Lewis acidities at 110 °C. Batteries with >50 mol% AlCl3 (acidic catholytes) experienced a linear decline in energy efficiency during cycling, whereas batteries with >50 mol% NaI (basic catholytes) maintained 95% energy efficiency for 100 cycles (5 months) at 2.5 mA cm-2. A 3-electrode cell was developed, enabling electrochemical identification of the NaSICON-catholyte interface as the source of increased impedance. Complementary physical and chemical characterization of the NaSICON exposed to acidic and basic catholytes showed no changes in crystallinity, bulk morphology, or bulk chemical composition, but surface sensitive X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed subtle changes in the local NaSICON surface chemistry. In addition, Raman spectroscopy indicated that basic catholytes lack the dimer species Al2Cl6I- present in acidic catholytes. These results suggest that one means to enable efficient and stable battery cycling is maintaining Lewis-basic NaI/AlCl3, which avoids deleterious interactions at the NaSICON-catholyte interface. Recent progress towards achieving high cycling rates in these molten salt systems will also be shared. References L. J. Small, A. Eccleston, J. Lamb, A. C. Read, M. Robins, T. Meaders, D. Resumo:
Abstract BACKGROUND Parenting a youth with chronic pain can be challenging and have a significant impact relationally, emotionally and financially on caregivers (Palermo, 2000; Lewandowski et al., 2010). There is a growing literature indicating that parent emotions (e.g., anxiety, depression), cognitions (e.g., coping, pain catastrophizing), and behaviours (e.g., attending to pain symptoms) can moderate a child’s adjustment to chronic pain (Logan & Scharff, 2005; Palermo et al., 2014; Palermo & Eccleston, 2008). Therefore, intervening with parents of youth with chronic pain is believed to foster better outcomes regarding children’s functioning (e.g., school attendance; Coakley & Wihak, 2017). OBJECTIVES No study has evaluated a stand-alone intervention targeted at parents of youth with chronic pain. Consequently, this poster presents a five week parenting group that we developed and ran on four occasions. Preliminary results pertaining to group feasability, satisfaction, and effectiveness will also be presented. DESIGN/METHODS The group is designed to augment the treatment of youth in our program and includes the following topics: chronic pain 101 (psychoeducation), impact of pain on the family, self-care, tools for managing a child’s pain, identifying and overcoming barriers, school partnerships, and celebrating successes. Each session involves homework review, a mindfulness activity, new material (inclusive of a didactic activity), goal-setting, and assigned readings. To date, 41 parents of youth with chronic pain have participated in the four group cycles. Outcomes were measured using the Adult Responses to Children’s Symptoms (ARCS) Questionnaire (Noel et al., 2015; Van Slyke & Walker, 2006) which parents completed at the start and end of the group. Feedback and parent satisfaction were also obtained on a feedback form designed by authors and given on the last session of group. RESULTS Overall, the group demonstrated adequate feasibility, was well-received by parents, and high satisfaction was reported. Preliminary data suggest that the group was helpful in reducing some parental responses associated with maladaptive child outcomes. More specifically, statistically significant decreases in protectiveness, monitoring, and minimizing (subscales of the ARCS) were found after the 5 week intervention. CONCLUSION “Anecdotally, many parents expressed uncertainty about how to respond when adolescents complained of pain and refused to go to school, and parents appeared eager for…strategies to help them negotiate the situation” (Logan & Simons, 2010, p. 833). Our results are consistent with previous literature (Logan & Simons, 2010; Saunders et al., 1994) and suggest that intervening with parents may help improve outcomes for youth with chronic pain.

Abstract CAIRE is a phase 2 umbrella study which assessed activity of combined anti-EZH2 tazemetostat and anti-PDL1 durvalumab (T+D) in advanced pretreated pancreatic, colorectal and sarcoma cancer patients. The are currently no plasma biomarkers for anti-EZH2 treatment monitoring or outcome. EZH2 catalyzes tri-methylation of Lysine 27 (K27me3) on nucleosomal histone 3 (H3, H3K27me3). Circulating, cell free H3K27me3 modified nucleosomes are thus a potential biomarker for tazemetostat activity. We evaluated the concentration of circulating H3K27me3 modified nucleosomes normalized to H3.1 nucleosomes (the most common isoform of H3) in T+D treated patients, irrespective of the tumor primary site, to determine target engagement during anti-EZH2 treatment. Plasma from patients receiving T+D was collected before the first cycle administration (C1D1), on the following two cycles administration (C2D1, C3D1) and at end of treatment (EOT). H3.1 and H3K27me3 containing nucleosomes were quantified by Nu.Q®-H3.1 and Nu.Q®-H3K27me3 Chemiluminescent Immunoassays. Concentrations are reported as ng/ml and the comparison of their median values at the different timepoints were tested with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann Whitney (independent samples) or Wilcoxon tests (paired samples), with SciPy.stat package (1.6.2). Bonferroni correction was applied to multiple comparisons. Of 197 total samples, 191 were evaluable for both biomarkers (6 higher than top standard after 5x dilution): 69 at C1D1, 63 at C2D1, 50 at C3D1 and 9 at EOT. For 58 patients paired C1D1 and C1D2 levels were available, 46 from C1D1 to C3D1 and 8 from C1D1 to EOT. The normalized Nu.Q®-H3K27me3 C1D1 median value (0.56) was significantly higher than C2D1 (0.31, p: e-12), C3D1 (0.31, p: e-12) and EOT ones (0.28, p: 0.001). Conversely, Nu.Q®-H3.1 levels were similar from C1D1 to C3D1 (range of the medians: 122.16-133.25 ng/ml) and increased at EOT (290.09 ng/ml), but with no significant difference between pairwise timepoints. Regarding paired-samples comparison, the normalized Nu.Q®-H3K27me3 was significantly higher at C1D1 than at C2D1 (p: e-8) and C3D1 (p: e-9) and at EOT (p: 0.02). Conversely, H3.1 concentration was significantly higher at EOT than at C1D1 (p: 0.02), at C2D1 (p: 0.02) and C3D1 (p: 0.05).In conclusion, we described for the first time that normalized circulating nucleosomal H3K27me3 values significantly decrease during T-based treatment in metastatic solid tumor patients, irrespective of the primary disease site, supporting its potential role as a pharmacodynamic biomarker for EZH2 inhibition. Moreover, total nucleosomal H3.1 seems to represent a surrogate of disease burden in metastatic pancreatic, colorectal and sarcoma cancers, as suggested previously in other hematological malignancies.

Abstract Only a small subset of transcription factors (TFs) can act as pioneer factors; i.e. those that can 'open' otherwise 'closed' chromatin to facilitate assembly of TF complexes and co-factors to enable transcription. The KLF/SP family of TFs bind to a 9-10 bp consensus motif in DNA to activate or repress target gene expression. We have studied the potential for KLF1, which is essential for erythropoiesis, to provide a pioneering function in erythroid progentior cells. Previous ChIP-seq studies have shown KLF1 binds a few thousand enhancers and promoters to activate erythroid cell gene expression 1. It often binds near to other key erythroid TFs such as GATA1 and SCL/TAL1, so is likely to work in concert with them in some contexts. We have employed an inducible stable KLF1-ERTM construct to rescue gene expression and differentiation of Klf1-/- erythroid cell lines 2. We employed ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq and DNAse1 HS to show KLF1 can bind to closed sites in chromatin and induce an open state. We show this is essential for recruitment of the settler transcription, GATA1, at certain co-bound sites but not others. This pioneering function occurs at ~300 key erythroid enhancers and super-enhancers such the one at -26kb in the a-globin LCR and one within the body of the E2f2 gene 3 but rarely at promoters. We further show that two different neomorphic mutations in the KLF1 DNA-binding domain lead to ectopic pioneering (opening of closed chromatin) and aberrant gene activation 4. We generated a series of N-terminal deletions in KLF1 and employed ATAC-seq to map the domain/s within KLF1 responsible for the pioneering activity and show it is distinct from DNA-binding activity. The domain is responsible for bromodomain protein recruitment, the likely effector of chromatin remodelling. We have also examined whether KLF3, which acts as a transcription repressor via recruitment of the co-repressor, CtBP2, can force the closure of otherwise open chromatin 5. We find it cannot. Rather, KLF3 (and likely other members of this subclade) works via active recruitment of co-repressors rather than rendering chromatin inaccessible. This likely enables rapid reactivation of pioneered enhancers without the need to reprogram chromatin. This work has broad implications for how the KLF/SP family of TFs work in vivo to reprogram cells and direct differentiation. We will present data for such activity in non-erythroid cell systems.

Abstract Krüppel-like factors (KLF) are a group of 17 transcription factors with highly conserved DNA-binding domains that contain three C-terminal C2H2-type zinc fingers and a variable N-terminal domain responsible for recruiting cofactors 1. KLFs participate in diverse roles in stem cell renewal, early patterning, organogenesis and tissue homeostasis. Krüppel-like factor 1 (KLF1) is an erythroid-specific KLF responsible for coordinating many aspects of terminal erythroid differentiation 2. It functions as a transcriptional activator by recruiting cofactors such as p300 and chromatin modifiers such as Brg1 via N-terminal transactivation domains 3. Krüppel-like factor 3 (KLF3) acts as a transcriptional repressor via recruitment of C-terminal binding proteins 4. In erythropoiesis, KLF1 directly activates KLF3 via an erythroid-specific promoter 5. Some KLF1 target genes are upregulated in Klf3-/- fetal liver suggesting possible competition between the two factors for promoter/enhancer occupancy. We generated three independent clones of the erythroid cell line, J2E, by retroviral transduction of a tamoxifen-inducible version of Klf3 (Klf3-ERTM) as previously described 6. Using next-generation sequencing of newly synthesised RNA (4sU-labeling), we show KLF3 induction leads to immediate repression of a set of ~580 genes; a subset of these (54) are also directly induced by KLF1 in K1-ER cells, suggesting antagonistic regulation. Indeed, ChIP-seq revealed KLF1 and KLF3 bind many of the same regulatory sites within the erythroid cell genome. KLF3 also binds an independent set of promoters which are not bound by KLF1, suggesting it also plays a KLF1-independent role in maintenance of gene repression. By de novo motif discovery we confirm KLF3 binds preferably to a extended CACCC motif, R-CCM-CRC-CCN, so the DNA-binding specificity in vivo is indistinguishable from the KLF1 binding specificity 7, and is independent of co-operating DNA-binding proteins or cofactors. Using Q-PCR of KLF1 ChIPed DNA in J2E-Klf3ER cells, we show that overexpression of KLF3 directly displaces KLF1 from many key target sites such as the E2f2 enhancer and this leads to down regulation of gene expression. This is the first proof that KLF1 and KLF3 directly compete for key promoters and enhancers which drive erythroid cell proliferation and differentiation. We propose KLF3 acts to 'fine-tune' transcription in erythropoiesis by repressing genes activated by KLF1 and that this negative feedback system is necessary for precise control over the generation of erythrocytes. It also works independently of KLF1 perhaps via competition for binding with other KLF/SP factors. References: 1. van Vliet J, Crofts LA, Quinlan KG, Czolij R, Perkins AC, Crossley M. Abstract This article proposes an ontology and praxis of mediation for the sake of ecumenical dialog, showing that the Pentecostal theological and spiritual tradition does not necessarily deny mediation or challenge its goodness, even if it does decry clericalism and ‘ecclesio-monism’. Instead, Pentecostals hold to confidence in the freedom of God to work however and whenever is best for us, always so that ‘the means of grace’ prove to be more than mere instruments or channels of divine power.

Early Christian literature contains numerous commentaries on the books of the Holy Scripture, including the Revelation of St. John. Among the many symbols it contains, we can find an intriguing theme related to the sign of a Woman clothed with the sun (cf. Rev 12:1–6). Nowadays, the above-mentioned passage is most often interpreted in the Mariological spirit. An ecclesiological explanation is provided frequently too. It turns out that in the writings of the early Church authors, the reference to the Church was decidedly the dominant one, while the interpretation favoring Mary was almost marginal. A mixed interpretation was formulated too, for example, by Quodvultdeus. It features three images: ecclesial, Christological, and Mariological. This paper will present the statements made by early Christian authors, representing both the Eastern and the Western Church, on the meaning of the sign of the Woman in the Revelation, and on the ways they interpreted it in commentaries on this book of the Bible.

AbstractGerald Odonis and Francis of Marchia, both Franciscan masters of theology active in the early fourteenth century, played an important role in the controversies that split the Franciscan Order as a result of Pope John XXII's decisions concerning the theory of religious poverty. They fought on opposite fronts: Odonis was elected Minister General after the deposition of Michael of Cesena, whom Francis supported in the struggle against the pope. This paper reconstructs the different stages at which Francis became a target of Odonis' repressive actions against his dissident former confreres, from the first mention of Francis' name in the lists of rebels to the letter Quid niteris, where Odonis reproaches Francis for his purported violations of the Franciscan Rule. Odonis most probably intentionally avoided entering the slippery ground of the poverty controversy and preferred attacking Francis on ecclesio-political issues.

The phenomenon of religious ecstasy has been the focus of scholarly investigations and debate for centuries. Israel was believed to have gotten her culture, values and religion from Yahweh through prophetic oracles. The Israelites were warned many time by Yahweh and the prophets to distant themselves from her neighbours and their gods. However, some scholars claimed that Israel borrowed ecstatic prophecy from her neighbours. The thrust of this paper is to investigate the origin, and the place of ecstatic prophecy in ancient Israel and its reflections in Moses Orimolade’s prophetic ministry in Nigeria. Historical method was used for the research. It uses historicity and ecclesiology as conceptual framework to contend that Israel’s prophetic tradition started before Israel settled in Canaan where she interacted with other nations. While it cannot be disputed that Israel must have been influenced by the culture of its neighbours, there were some elements in the religion that were peculiar to Israel. The study concludes that Israelite prophetic heritage cannot be compared with the divination in ancient Near East. There exist a parallel between ecstatic prophetic ministry in ancient Israel and Moses Orimolade prophetic ministry in Nigeria. The Cherubim & Seraphim (C&S) church established by Orimolade grew through the instrumentality of ecstatic prophecy. The paper recommends that contemporary Prophets in Nigeria and beyond must strive to fulfill divine mandate received by them at all cost..

Social injustices, structural and personal crises as well as intensifying stress on some citizens seem increasing preoccupations in contemporary society and social policy. In this context, the concept of vulnerability has come to play a prominent role in academic, governmental and everyday accounts of the human condition. Policy makers and practitioners are now concerned with addressing vulnerability through an expansive range of interventions. As this special issue draws attention to, a vulnerability zeitgeist or ‘spirit of the time’ has been traced in contemporary welfare and disciplinary arrangements (Brown, 2014, 2015), which now informs a range of interventions and approaches to social problems, both in the UK and internationally. As prominent examples, ‘vulnerable’ people are legally entitled to ‘priority need’ in English social housing allocations (Carr and Hunter, 2008), vulnerable victims of crime are seen as requiring special responses in the UK criminal justice system (see Roulstoneet al., 2011; Walkgate, 2011), ‘vulnerable adults’ have designated ‘protections’ under British law (Dunnet al., 2008; Clough, 2014) and vulnerable migrants and refugees are increasingly prioritised within international immigration processes (Peroni and Timmer, 2013). There is a long tradition in the field of social policy of critiquing the implications of particular concepts as mechanisms of governance, from poverty (Townsend, 1979; Lister, 2004) and social exclusion (Levitas, 1998; Young 1999) to risk (Beck, 1992; Kemshall, 2002) and resilience (Ecclestone and Lewis, 2014; Wright, 2016). Yet while vulnerability seems to be one of the latest buzzwords gathering political and cultural momentum, critiques and empirical studies of how it is operationalised in different policy and practice contexts are less well elaborated.

AbstractThis essay treats how English Roman Catholics, deprived of place and standing in their native church, addressed the two essential elements underlying the Protestant political economy of the Elizabethan Settlement. After a brief précis of how other studies have looked at political thought, the Protestant axioms of a lay supremacy and a unilateral national prerogative in the government of the church shall be delineated. The two main sections shall then treat the Catholic critique of the English national church and its lay supremacy respectively. The conclusion shall address the dilemma of conscience that these principles inflicted on Roman Catholics in Elizabethan England. Having been both summarily deprived of ecclesiastical standing and alienated from their native polity by their refusal to acknowledge the demands of the Elizabethan Settlement, England's Catholics found themselves justifying their actions and assailing the new ecclesio-political arrangements. Specifically the Recusants took aim at the notion of the laity exercising authority over the church whether from the throne or in parliament, and at the concept that England apart from the rest of the Church at all times and in all places could order its rites, liturgies, sacraments, and creed. This second item became more pronounced in that the Oath of Supremacy specifically mentioned the renunciation of all bishops unless they were English. For the Recusants these two elements created an insurmountable barrier for any sincere Catholic conscience.

Abstract Objective Older women are at particular risk of osteoporosis. Among women with osteoporosis, fractures of the vertebra (vertebral fracture) are common, hard to detect and associated with risk of further fracture. Identifying vertebral fracture in a timely manner allows instigation of preventive measures to reduce the risk of further fracture. Although detection of vertebral fracture requires spinal radiograph, many women do not receive referral. To begin development of a screening tool to identify women in need of referral we undertook a qualitative study to characterize women’s experiences of vertebral fracture, using Eccleston’s ‘Ten Neglected Bodily Senses’. Methods Four qualitative focus groups were conducted with women who had been diagnosed with vertebral fracture (n = 19, age 60–91 years). Data were audio-recorded, transcribed and analysed thematically using the ‘Ten Neglected Bodily Senses’. Results Women’s experiences of vertebral fractures related to seven senses: pain, movement, fatigue, balance, pressure, appetite and breathing. Pain was the dominant sense and all participants explained how pain increased with activity, reaching a crescendo, and described strategies to minimize this disruption. Most participants had become physically shorter, making some feel ‘squashed’, putting pressure on other body parts. Some described appetite loss or a sense of restricted breathing. Participants experienced a sense of being ‘pulled’ forwards, impacting on balance and exacerbating fear of falling. Conclusion The study found senses that have not been previously described in the experiences of women with vertebral fracture. These will be used to inform the design of a new screening tool for use in primary care.

The selection of exemplary students carried out by the school is expected to trigger the enthusiasm of students to be able to develop their interests, talents, and abilities in the academic and non-academic fields. However, decision-making has not been measured with data so a decision support system is needed. With the use of this method, it is hoped that it can make it easier and minimize the occurrence of errors in making decent decisions therefore this system is needed to be able to make good decisions. In this study, one of the decision support system methods that are often used was chosen, namely Simple Additive Weighting (SAW). The use of the SAW method is due to its uncomplicated calculations. Research conducted at this school in determining decisions is still done manually so it is less effective and efficient. Therefore, this decision support system must be able to calculate exemplary students to be more effective and efficient. This system displays the final results of the ranking of exemplary students using the SAW method. From the overall results of the research that has been carried out, the calculation results that got rank 1 were obtained, namely Kenzo Ecclesio Taha with a total score of 0.9025. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the results meet the criteria, so this study can be considered in calculations to determine exemplary students in the future

Cooperation churches (samarbetskyrkor) have since 1966 been organized in cooperation between Church of Sweden and the Swedish Evangelical Mission (Evangeliska Fosterlands-Stiftelsen, EFS), which is an independent movement working for renewal within Church of Sweden. These cooperation churches have the advantage of a combination of the evangelical spirituality and the volunteer tradition of EFS and the strong feeling of affinity between Church of Sweden and the general public. The article is discussing the book by Marie Rosenius, Samarbetskyrkan, en fråga om ecklesiologiskt kapital (The cooperation church, a question about ecclesiological capital), which was written based on a questionnaire, but also supplements the results presented in the book with the result of an interview survey, based on unstructured open-ended questions. One conclusion of Rosenius is that the cooperation churches often work well but there can be problems. It has become evident that when a new vicar has begun to serve in a congregation, problems can arise if the new vicar is not familiar with the spirituality of EFS and because different ecclesio logies can be in conflict with each other. Another problem is that many congregations have become more like event organisers, than fellowships around Christ. In this regard, EFS adhere to the ideal of a fellowship around Christ, in which personal conversion is important. Another problem is differences about current language usage. For example, “congregation” and “mission” can have different meanings in different traditions. The article also compares the situation in the cooperation churches in Sweden with the different traditions in Church of England and ends with some ideas how to avoid misunderstandings and how to strengthen the cooperation in the future.

This article reflects upon how LGBTQIA+ Christians and their allies within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and its predecessor denominations ‘called the question’ on their right to and responsibility for membership, ordination, and marriage by simultaneously (1) practicing apologetic ‘ministries of presence’ and (2) grounding their ecclesio-juridical arguments in the church’s long-standing polity principles. It is commonly argued that advocates for full inclusion pushed the church to change historic norms, while ‘conservative’ voices called for the maintenance of time-honored principles. In an effort to problematize such reductionistic accounts, this article begins by sketching the historical trajectory of U.S. Presbyterian theology and polity, with special emphasis on the Adopting Act of 1729 and the tradition that proceeds from it. Building upon its survey of the debates that shaped the church’s history between the early eighteenth and mid-twentieth centuries, the text then shows how LGBTQIA+ Presbyterians and their allies acted within the traditional discursive patterns of their faith community when they advocated for the repeal of the exclusive policies that arose in the second half of the twentieth century. Inspired by the work of advocates and allies alike, when the PC(USA) and its predecessor denominations articulated an inclusive stance toward openly LGBTQIA+ members in 1978/1979, removed barriers to their ordination in 2011, permitted same-sex marriages within Presbyterian communities in 2015, and opened the church to receiving new theological insights from queer people via the adapted version of the ‘Apology Overture’ in 2016, the church’s collective discernment drew on historic Presbyterian principles of theology and governance to respond (often imperfectly) to contemporary challenges. The church’s multi-generational self-critique thus created a space in which queer Christians could ‘re-de-normalize’ their experiences of life and faith in ways that may open doors for post-apologetic reconstructive theological engagement in the years to come.

Resumo:
Character education in early childhood is not new, and character education is also not just a transfer of knowledge, but something that needs to be built early on through various stimula- tions. This study aims to develop the character of early childhood through audio-visual media with traditional Javanese songs. Using educational design-based research to develop audio-visual media from traditional songs, this media was tested in the field with an experimental design with a control group. Respondents involved 71 kindergarten students from one experimental class in one control class. The data revealed that character education in children shows the average value of the experi- mental class is higher than the control group, this means character education in children can be built through traditional songs. Further research can be done to improve the character of early childhood through a variety of media that interests children.
