Abstract The distinction between forecast quality and economic value in a cost–loss formulation is well known. Also well known is their complex relationship, even with some instances of a reversal between the two, where higher quality is associated with lower economic value, and vice versa. It is reasonable to expect such counterintuitive results when forecast quality and economic value—both, multifaceted quantities—are summarized by single scalar measures. Diagrams are often used to display forecast quality in order to better represent the multidimensional nature of forecast quality. Here, it is proposed that economic value be displayed as a region on a plot of hit rate versus false-alarm rate. Such a display obviates any need to summarize economic value by a scalar measure. The choice of the axes is motivated by the relative operating characteristic (ROC) diagram, and, so, this manner of displaying economic value is useful for deterministic as well as probabilistic forecasts.

This work is the development of previously published ones in the journal "Geometry and Graphics" as follows: "Kinematic Correspondence of Rotating Spaces" (№ 1, 2013) and "Formation of Cyclic Surfaces in Kinetic Geometry" (№ 4, 2017). Many of mechanisms make rotational movement, wherein rotating parts of one mechanism "invade" into the zone of rotation for another rotating mechanism’s parts. At the same time, in addition to rotation, they can make other movements, both translational and rotational nature. The theory of kinetic geometry, of which this work is an integral part, is developed in order to avoid collisions of two or more parts of different mechanisms with each other. This is a rather complicated problem in mechanical engineering, in the mining industry, in metallurgy, and in space navigation, where there are no objects that are at rest. Therefore, the kinetic theory of matching for rotating spaces R1 3 and R23 when they are independent from each other movement is quite relevant. In this work have been considered cases for mapping of geometric figures of one space to another one when these figures are moving inside their space R13 . A theory which is presented has been called kinetic geometry, as it relates to engineering problems associated with gearings. These problems were addressed for the first time and drew-up as inventions. A monograph entitled "Introduction to Kinetic Geometry" is currently being prepared for publication.

Resumo:

Drawings belong to the important concentrated expressions of information that attract attention and are a kind of ‘language’ of communication between the author and the viewer (reader). They allow clearly highlighting the main points, emphasize certain details, or reflect the nature of natural objects without too much detail. It is one of the ways to explore and study reality. In these materials, a small selection of drawings with the most concise text was prepared, some of which were exhibited in 1991 in the Department of Nature of the Zhytomyr Regional Museum of Local Lore at the exhibition ‘From the Diary of a Naturalist.’ All of them were created and accumulated gradually, often as illustrations to field diaries.

Iridium metalation of [26]hexaphyrin 1 and [36]octaphyrin 2 gave Ir ( III ) complex of [26]hexaphyrin 3 and Ir ( I ) complex of [36]octaphyrin 4, respectively. The complex 3 is an aromatic molecule displaying considerably electron-rich nature while the complex 4 shows weak antiaromatic nature with a small HOMO–LUMO gap of 0.82 eV.

SummaryIn 2013 a prediction was made that the South-East Asian subspecies of Bengal Florican Houbaropsis bengalensis blandini would be extinct within 10 years. In 2018 we conducted a survey in the Tonle Sap floodplain, Cambodia, of the last population of Bengal Florican in South-East Asia. We found that the rate of decline in displaying males was 55% over five years, a decline comparable to that recorded between 2005–2007 and 2012. The estimated number of displaying males in 2018 was 104 (95% CI: 89–117), down from 216 (156–275) in 2012. We also conducted surveys by flushing birds in the non-breeding season, which indicated that the sex ratio of males to females is 3:1. We therefore estimate that the total population of adult Bengal Floricans in Cambodia in 2018 was 138 (119–156), making H. b. blandini the most threatened bustard taxon. The number of sites that support displaying male Bengal Floricans was reduced from 10 to four between 2012 and 2018. Between 2012 and 2018 we monitored numbers of displaying males in most years at the sites that support 80% of the total population. The only site where numbers of birds are stable is Stoung-Chikraeng Bengal Florican Conservation Area, where there were 44 (25–63) displaying males in 2018. This is the only site that has an ongoing NGO-government conservation programme. Our data indicate that Bengal Floricans are lost from sites when the area of grassland falls below 25 km2. We found evidence that displaying male Bengal Floricans abandon display territories when grassland is lost, this also creates hope that they may disperse and could colonise newly created habitat. All remaining sites that support Bengal Floricans in Cambodia are imperilled and we outline what must be done to reduce the possibility that H. b. blandini will be extinct by 2023.

Objectives: The Emergency Department (ED) is one of the most important places in a hospital in which patients are full of pain and stress because of its hectic nature. Consequently, there are a lot of quarrels and fights in the emergency department. This study intends to assess the effect of exhibition of educational messages as a way to decrease the violence in the Emergency Room (ER). Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional prospective survey at the Emergency Room (ER) of Shariati hospital of Tehran in September 2016. Data collection was carried out via distributing a qualitative questionnaire among the Emergency Department (ED) staff at baseline and 3 months after the educational intervention. We measured the total and mean number of various types of violence per survey. We utilized SPSS software version 16 in analysis of data using Mann-Whitney Test. Results: The analysis showed 47.5% verbal violence before the intervention vs 60% after that (p-value=0.598), 20.8% financial violence pre- ervention versus 43.8% post intervention (p-value=0.253), both of which were notsignificant statistically; however, physical violence considerably decreased from 83.9% to 47.6% during the study (p-value=0.01). During the semi-structured interviews with personnel, it was found that this presentation had some positive effects on controlling the stress of the environment practically, although it did not appear in the analysis. Conclusion: This type of public education in the hospital does not seem to be independently effective in reducing the violence in the Emergency Room (ER). According to the results, most violence indexes, except Physical violence, have not been mitigated after the intervention significantly. Perhaps, it could be more efficient by using audiovisual media, animation, and other captivating methods.

AbstractAs reflected by the distinction between types and tokens, frequency is standardly conceived of in a two-dimensional fashion. This conception draws on the linguistic hierarchy in that token frequency is calculated at a higher structural level than type frequency. The fact that the linguistic hierarchy consists of more than two levels raises the possibility of investigating frequency from a multiplanar angle. This approach is illustrated with a three-level analysis of derivational affixes in English, German, and Dutch. The lowest level represents the number of affix types, the intermediate level the number of words of which these affixes are a part, and the highest level the textual frequency of these affixed words. The three languages exhibit significant variation. While English shows a consistent increase, German shows a consistent decrease in the suffix-to-prefix ratios from the lower to the higher levels. Dutch is inconsistent in displaying an increase from the lowest to the intermediate level but a decrease from the intermediate to the highest level. A good part of the explanation for this difference lies in the disparate role of prefixing in the three languages. The multiplanar approach provides novel perspectives on a number of issues such as the locus of linguistic change. Preliminary evidence suggests that the loss of a lower-level unit may be accompanied by “collateral damage” at the higher level.

Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) have received great attention owing to their biocompatible nature, environmental, and widespread biomedical applications. Au NPs are known as capable to regulate inflammatory responses in several tissues and organs; interestingly, lower toxicity in conjunction with anti-inflammatory effects was reported to occur with Au NPs treatment. Several variables drive this benefit-risk balance, including Au NPs physicochemical properties such as their morphology, surface chemistry, and charge. In our research we prepared hybrid Au@LCC nanocolloids by the Pulsed Laser Ablation, which emerged as a suitable chemically clean technique to produce ligand-free or functionalized nanomaterials, with tight control on their properties (product purity, crystal structure selectivity, particle size distribution). Here, for the first time to our knowledge, we have investigated the bioproperties of Au@LCCs. When tested in vitro on intestinal epithelial cells exposed to TNF-α, Au@LCCs sample at the ratio of 2.6:1 showed a significantly reduced TNF gene expression and induced antioxidant heme oxygenase-1 gene expression better than the 1:1 dispersion. Although deeper investigations are needed, these findings indicate that the functionalization with LCCs allows a better interaction of Au NPs with targets involved in the cell redox status and inflammatory signaling.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) looms large in international political and security spheres because of its harsh domestic dictatorship as well as its pursuit of nuclear weapons. It is a country that is difficult to access physically because of its controlled borders, and the evolution of North Korean society is clouded by the propaganda that is routinely dispatched by the government. As a result of the state’s focus on militarization and regime survival, specific population groups are often ignored in broader debates about North Korean society, yet they provide important insights into the paradoxical nature of the North Korean society; children are one such group. While there is plenty of evidence, gathered by NGOs and IGOs, that North Korean children suffer from both physical and emotional violence in North Korea, they are also celebrated and revered by the government: the Mangyongdae Children’s Palace in Pyongyang, for instance, is seemingly dedicated to children’s after-school activities and well-being. Drawing on fieldwork conducted in the DPRK during International Children’s Day in 2019, this article examines the place of children in the construction of North Korean national identity and exposes how children are both celebrated and utilized to become “memorable,” supporting the North Korean government’s survival goals via large-stage installations such as the gymnastic Mass Games.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how nature leadership can boost attraction and suggestion. Interviews, observations made in the field, and written documentation are the three primary methods used for data collecting. After that, the data were evaluated by reducing and displaying the data based on the sources and methodologies used in this research. Using descriptive qualitative methods will allow in-depth study and understanding of social situations to find the best examples, generate hypotheses and lead to emerging theories. It can be concluded that Natural Leadership in Increasing Attraction and Success in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurul Abror Asembakor is in line with the way the Madrasa Principal leads himself and others in a way that can be done efficiently. This ability allows the principal to delegate tasks appropriately, avoid unnecessary chaos, and determine efforts to achieve school goals that have been set.

Material and interactive exhibits are important elements of many sites of learning, including science, technology, history and natural history museums. Parks and nature preserves are not usually identified as museums, and their purpose and mission do not necessarily align with the mission focus of museums. We argue here, however, that permanent environmental education exhibits at preserves should be treated as museums for analytic purposes. Preserve displays typically include collections of objects from within the park’s boundaries, i.e., bones, shells, rocks, skeletons, feathers, pelts, cones, etc., in addition to manufactured displays presenting ecosystems and physical as well as living elements of the environment. Exhibits at preserves have not been the focus of scholarship on museums to date. Bringing together analytic tools developed for museum experiences with evaluative frameworks from the field of environmental education provides a rich set of concepts for understanding the work that nature preserve exhibits do to increase ecoliteracy. We analyze permanent and interactive educational exhibits at three nature preserves in Florida through the application of a series of interdisciplinary and overlapping frameworks. We identify opportunities for transmission of knowledge about the environment and human interactions with local landscapes; opportunities for cognitive engagement with material artefacts and for participation in knowledge construction. We identify messages that use emotional engagement to encourage visitors to become active citizens on behalf of nature and humans; and to ultimately engage in sustainable actions to solve environmental problems.

The danger of riverbed processes is considered. Their speed varies from the first few months of the flood to the most dynamic process in nature. It happened in front of people. This may make life on the river bank and the utilization of river resources more difficult. This paper introduces the causes and consequences of the danger performance of riverbed processes, and focuses on the mapping methods of the danger assessment of riverbed processes: determining the danger degree of riverbed processes and different methods of displaying it on the map. An example of displaying danger on the previously drawn map is given, and the distribution of different types and expression degrees of dangerous riverbed processes under various natural conditions in Russia is briefly analyzed.

Some years ago, Willems & de Jong (1988) noticed that many carbon stars display an excess of emission at 60 µm and explained it by the presence of a fossil dust shell, containing only cold dust. This detached dust shell would be the result of an interruption of the mass loss, consequence of a thermal pulse. Detached shells around C stars have actually been mapped in the CO lines (Olofsson et al. 1992), and at 60µm (Waters et al. 1994). In 1992, Zijlstra et al. found about 100 M stars displaying an excess of emission at 60 µm, and proposed that interruptions of the mass loss due to thermal pulses is a general phenomenon on the AGB. This assumption is now supported by the theoretical calculations of Vassiliadis & Wood (1993). Here we present a detailed study of the 100 M stars of Zijlstra et al. in order to test the previous assumption.

Abstract Glauconite must be assessed as mica-rich mica-smectite R3 interstratified mineral, with the pure end-member mica also having intrinsic K-deficient chemical characteristics (K+ ~ 0.8 apfu). This assertion is in accordance with our X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution tranmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) studies and chemical analyses by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) of mature glauconites in Cenozoic Antarctic sediments that indicate that: (1) It consists of a glauconite-smectite (R3 ordered) mixed-layer silicate, composed mainly of mica-type layers (>90%), but displaying slightly different proportions of Fe(III)-smectite layers (<10%). (2) More mature glaucony grains are characterized by major K+ and VIFe2+ (mica layers) and minor VIFe3+ (smectite layers) content in the interstratified glauconite-smectite. (3) Potassium is stabilized at the interlayer site by the octahedrally coordinated Fe2+. (4) Microtexture of the glauconite crystals are comparable with those of other micas and illite minerals, with straight, defect-free lattice fringes of ~10 Å spacings glauconite packets characteristic of mica with minor interstratified poorly crystalline smectite layers. In addition, our new findings give insights into the glauconitization process and at the same time investigate the potassium-deficient character of the dioctahedral mica “glauconite.” These findings show that glauconite crystallizes by a layer-growth mechanism at the expense of a poorly crystalline smectite precursor and that smectiteto-glauconite transformations are accompanied by a gradually higher octahedral charge deficiency (Fe2+/Fe3+) stabilized by K+ uptake into the interlayer sheet.

The imperative part of strong displaying in virtual reality framework is to improve the movement of a user with definitive movement control in genuine intelligent condition. In a real environment motion characteristic is based on sensors and servomechanisms where as in virtual reality systems the motion fundamentals are kinematic in nature. To achieve physically correct interactivity suitable dynamic constraints, should be imposed which can be obtained by augmented reality interface. Comparative studies of the mitochondrial proteome have identified a conserved core of proteins descended from the α-proteobacterial endosymbiont that gave rise to the mitochondrion and was the source of the mitochondrial genome in contemporary eukaryotes. A surprising result of phylogenetic analyses is the relatively small proportion (10–20%) of the mitochondrial proteome displaying a clear α-proteobacterial ancestry. A large fraction of mitochondrial proteins typically has detectable homologs only in other eukaryotes and is presumed to represent proteins that emerged specifically within eukaryotes. A further significant fraction of the mitochondrial proteome consists of proteins with homologs in prokaryotes, but without a robust phylogenetic signal affiliating them with specific prokaryotic lineages. The presumptive evolutionary source of these proteins is quite different in contending models of mitochondrial origin.

AbstractObjectiveTo compare the Health Star Rating (HSR) and the nutritional profile of branded and generic packaged foods in Australia.DesignIn-store audits of packaged food products capturing data on HSR and nutritional content to analyse differences between branded and generic foods across ten food categories.SettingThe audit was conducted in four major supermarket chains across various locations within metropolitan Sydney regions, Australia.ResultsA total of 6269 products were analysed with 57 % of generic products and 28 % of branded products displaying an HSR. The median HSR of branded products was significantly greater than for generic products overall (4·0 v. 3·5, P<0·005) and in six out of ten food categories (P<0·005). However, when branded products could be matched to their generic counterparts for paired comparisons (n 146), no statistical difference was observed in all ten food categories. Branded products that chose to display an HSR had significantly lower saturated fat and Na, but higher fibre contents than branded products not displaying an HSR.ConclusionsOur data show no difference in the HSR or nutrient profiles of similar branded and generic products that display HSR. Branded products appear to exploit the voluntary nature of the HSR scheme, preferentially displaying an HSR on healthier products compared with their generic counterparts.

The possibilities of unconventional technological methods for the formation of low-rise buildings need an adequate scientific and methodological substantiation. The features of the influence of technological component on the nature and methods of forming compositional solutions of low-rise buildings are established. The dependence of the functional quality of construction products (low-rise buildings) on the possibilities of adapting techniques of unconventional technological effectiveness to the practical implementation of compositional and structural solutions of effective architectural systems has been revealed. The structure of promising areas of technological transformation of forms (dynamic architecture) of low-rise buildings is developed. An example of the concept of technological transformation of a mobile architectural system of a low-rise residential building is considered. The main features of the influence of unconventional technological methods on compositional solutions and methods of forming architectural systems of low-rise buildings are determined.

The use of various dimensions of color to encode continuous data has become commonplace with the advent of sophisticated computing hardware and software. Applications users can choose from a variety of color pallets as well as create their own for viewing digitized data sets. A primary HCI question emerging from this expanded availability of color for data display is how best to map color dimensions to data dimensions for various applications. The current study examined a subset of the perceptual/cognitive processes underlying pattern recognition tasks, whose efficacy could be affected by the nature the color scale used to visualize the data being viewed. Three types of observers' judgments were examined: absolute discrimination of a value; relative judgment of the difference between two values; and a rank order judgment of 4 values. These values were expressed in the color of a specific region in images displayed using eight different color and gray scales. Preference ratings were collected for the color scales. Grey scales were best for rank ordering tasks, while a blue-green-yellow scale proved superior for an absolute independent task. Scale preferences did not necessarily agree with performance. Implications of the findings and future research are discussed.

This article seeks to renegotiate Walter Benjamin's conception of allegory as an image that is a “fragment [… in which] the false appearance of totality is extinguished” ( 1998 , p. 176) in the context of Welles's The Trial. According to Benjamin, the allegorical image embodies its own limitations, displaying where its visuality falters. This article lifts Benjamin's notion of the allegorical image from its specific German Baroque discursive context and superimposes it onto the moving images of Welles's film. Welles's images in The Trial seem to perennially question their ability to meaningfully capture or represent the nature of the law. The faltering of the image is also apparent in Welles's use of cinematography, when offscreen space irrupts into Welles's images in unforeseeable ways, suggesting the powerlessness of the image over what is imposed upon it. In their displaying an absence of representation, Welles's images seem allegorical in Benjamin's sense.

Hereditary multiple exostosis (HME) is an autosomal dominant disorder manifested by the presence of multiple osteochondromas. Although the lesions are benign in nature, exostoses are often associated with characteristic progressive skeletal deformity and displaying clinical symptoms such as mechanical irritation or impingement. We present the successful arthroscopic resection in a 24-year-old HME male with impingement syndrome and long head tendon tear of the biceps caused by osteochondroma arising from the distal clavicle.

The article considers the results of long-term research and real flight tests for developing a multichannel system for enhanced vision in difficult for aircraft crew visibility conditions. The multicomponent nature of the aggregate video signal generated by a multispectral video system is shown, justifying its representation in color and the need to develop a color indicator of the aircraft windshield to obtain a better quality of situational awareness for pilot compared to the capabilities of traditionally used monochrome indicators. A method for integrating monochrome images of multichannel enhanced vision system spectral channels into a color multicomponent image is proposed. For more natural perception of the resulting color images by the human eye, the spectrum of the spectral characteristics of the video channels is rearranged in the direction of decreasing wavelength. For the most common RGB color image format, the red component R of the display system records the image of the long-wave thermal range, the green component G records the image of the mid-wave infrared range, the blue component B records the image of the short-wave visible television range. The resulting pseudo-color image allows unambiguous restoring the original images. This proves the absence of information loss during image integration. Since there are no colored windscreen displays yet, a method for reproducing a pseudo-color image on a mono-chrome display is proposed. To convert a pseudo-color image to monochrome one, methods are used in which color contrasts are preserved in the form of tonal contrasts. As we know the spherical functions are traditionally used in geodesy for modeling the gravitational field of the Earth. But the gravitational field is not stationary either in space or in time (but the latter is beyond the scope of this article) and can change quite strongly in various directions. By its nature, the spherical functions do not fully display the local features of the field. With this in mind it is advisable to use spatially localized basis functions. So it is convenient to divide the region under consideration into segments with a nearly stationary field. The complexity of the field in each segment can be characterized by means of an anisotropic matrix resulting from the covariance analysis of the field. If we approach the modeling in this way there can arise a problem of poor coherence of local models on segments’ borders. To solve the above mentioned problem it is proposed in this article to use new basis functions with Mahalanobis metric instead of the usual Euclidean distance. The Mahalanobis metric and the quadratic form generalizing this metric enables us to take into account the structure of the field when determining the distance between the points and to make the modeling process continuous.

Mirroring the representation of informal workers in a third world context as displaying entrepreneurial qualities, recent years have witnessed the emergence of a similar view of the informal sector in western nations as a hidden enterprise culture. Until now, however, few attempts have been made to analyze the nature and motives of informal entrepreneurs in western economies. Instead, it has been widely assumed that those engaged in entrepreneurship in the informal sector are those marginalized from the formal economy and driven out of necessity into this endeavor as a last resort. The aim of this paper is to evaluate critically this "marginalization thesis". Reporting the findings of face-to-face structured interviews with 130 informal entrepreneurs in England, the conventional representation of these entrepreneurs as necessity-driven, as well as an emergent depiction of them as opportunity-driven, is transcended. Instead, a richer and more textured understanding of informal entrepreneurship is developed that replaces such either/or thinking by a both/and approach that depicts how the majority are concurrently both necessity- and opportunity-driven. The paper then concludes by exploring the public policy implications of this rereading of the nature of informal entrepreneurship in western economies.

This study examines the relationship between business and tourism demand cycles in Aruba and Barbados during 1970–2015. The study uses a 2SLS method and is grounded in the output gap approach. The results indicate that business cycles explain nearly 49% of tourism demand flows to Aruba and nearly 91% to Barbados. Thus, the study sheds light on the nature of the relationship between business and tourism demand cycles, which could help managers and policy makers refine their strategies to further tourism development. Procyclical and asymmetric movements characterized the long-term co-movements between the business cycles and tourism demand variables. However, individual variables were stationary, hence transitory in nature, and therefore mainly driven by demand motivations. The asymmetric fluctuations were defined by positive and negative gaps, with the former displaying stronger duration effects compared to the latter. The relationship between the two variables seems country specific in nature.

Written in and for a patriarchal community that valued its solidarity, Anne Bradstreet's “Contemplations” does not try to render an accurate, realistic portrait of nature in the New World. Rather, it employs what Leo Marx calls “ecological images…displaying the essence of a system of value” and subordinates these images to the reformed Judeo-Christian myth. “Contemplations” argues that God is the source of order, meaning, and history, and that the natural world, whether beneficent or hostile, reflects His omnipotence. But in delineating a predominantly masculine world view, Bradstreet also sets aside her own aspirations as a woman poet. Although the song of the female bird Philomel represents a kind of art that is free of Puritanism's monolithic expectations, Bradstreet's speaker cannot liberate herself to sing with Philomel. Instead, she stifles her own song for a practical poetic craft that serves her struggling community.

Recent studies on the fossil record time series has suggested that there is consistent evidence for self-similarity i.e. long-range correlations with power-law behavior. The existence of such fractal strucutes means that, when looking at a given time frame, some basic properties remain the same if a change of scale is performed. In other words, there is no characteristic time scale, as we could expect if some type of periodic or other low-dimensional dynamics were present. A possible explanation for such long-range order is a dynamical process operating at all scales, as it is the case for systems in the neighborhood of critical points. In this paper these results are further explored by extending previous data analysis and examining the relevance of recent theoretical approaches to the statistical features of the fossil record. The presence of long-range correlations is shown through Hurst analysis using non-interpolated data series from the Fossil Record 2 database. As shown in previous studies, such correlations span over hundreds of millions of years and are compared with a simple model of large-scale evolution displaying self-organized criticality.

Abstract Individuals of either sex may display alternative behaviors to obtain copulations, but few studies have examined the breeding patterns of females and males in populations where individuals of both sexes exhibit alternative reproductive tactics (ARTs). In prairie voles (Microtus ochrogaster), most adults are territorial, residing at a single nest site either as male–female pairs or as solitary individuals. However, some adults adopt nonterritorial, wandering tactics. During two field seasons monitoring prairie vole populations maintained in seminatural enclosures, we found evidence that females exhibiting different ARTs bred differentially with resident and wandering males. Females residing at a nest with a male bred significantly more often with a paired resident male, primarily their social partner, and significantly less often with male wanderers compared to single resident females or wandering females. These patterns were not due to chance, because paired resident females produced offspring with paired resident males significantly more than expected based on the relative abundance of these males in the population, whereas single resident females produced offspring with male wanderers significantly more than expected based on the proportion of male wanderers in the population. We did not find any evidence that multiple paternity was greater in the litters of single resident females and wanderer females even though these females lacked a male social partner to limit mating access by multiple males. This suggests that mate guarding by a female’s male social partner was not the primary determinant of multiple paternity in the litters of females exhibiting different reproductive tactics. However, male ART did affect the likelihood of multiple paternity. Females that produced offspring with single resident or wanderer males had an increased likelihood of multiple paternity relative to females producing offspring with paired resident males. The results of this study show that female and male ARTs can affect breeding patterns.

Resumo:

The paper discusses the necessity of a new (re)definition of culture. While the traditional definition of culture insists upon its permanence, contemporary definitions insist on its fluidity and politicality. The act of value (de)privileging, as well as placing the political into the field of culture, has made it possible marginal groups to (de)construct the existing identity groupings and to create new ones. The author concludes that the aforementioned struggles lead into two directions: marginal groups are becoming aware of their social position and starting the struggle for exercising their rights accordingly, while the dominant culture is refusing the act of (de)privileging and, subsequently, the integration of marginal groups. With regard to the above, there are two solutions proposed: the first proposal suggests displaying and, then, accepting of a specific lifestyle (new determination of culture), while the second one suggests recognising equal rights of marginalised social groups (social and political inclusion).

Coastal-related data are four-dimensional in nature, varying not only in location and water depth but also in time. The heterogeneous and dynamic nature of coastal-related data makes modeling and visualization of these data a challenging task. A new object-oriented spatiotemporal data model to represent dynamic three-dimensional coastal data is proposed in this study. In the proposed model, a set of abstract data types allowing suitable spatiotemporal operations is defined to manipulate complex coastal data. In addition, a logical data model is proposed for the design of a spatiotemporal database. The proposed object-oriented and logical data models are implemented in a real-world coastal information management system in Hong Kong. An elegant visualization framework for displaying the coastal data, based on the concept of a time–depth bar, is presented in the case study.

Much discussion surrounding Christian nonviolence in the late twentieth century has centered around the ecclesiocentric version popularized by Stanley Hauerwas. In this essay, I assess the manner in which virtue is connected to internal church practices for Hauerwas, such that displaying nonviolence external to the church risks losing the formative nature of church life. Using examples from contemporary proponents, I argue that when internal church practices, such as prayer, economic sharing, and interpersonal reconciliation are performed publically, they form their practitioners in the virtues which Hauerwas values, but in a way which transposes nonviolence into a public key.

Displaying and evaluation methods of the accounting information in the financial reports influence greatly the authenticity, indicator evaluation and making decisions of the economic nature. In the article the evaluation methods of separate balance items, their influence on the indicators of the companies’ liquidity are interpreted, the problems of the balance item classification in the financial reports are updated. The authors believe that when investigating a specific financial indicator (for example, liquidity) it is important to analyse and evaluate both the methodology of data acquisition in accounting and to evaluate the methods of recognition of these elements in financial reports.

Bioimpedance measurement is gaining importance in wide field of bioresearch and biomedical systems due to its noninvasive nature. Noninvasive measurement method is very important to decrease infection and physical injuries which result due to invasive measurement. This paper presents basic principle of bioimpedance along with its application for blood glucose analysis and effect of frequency on impedance measurement. Input from bioimpedance sensor is given to amplifier and signal conditioner AD5933. AD5933 is then interfaced with microcontroller LPC1768 using I2C bus for displaying reading on LCD. Results can also be stored in database using UART interface of LPC1768.

Pseudoclefts constitute a difficult challenge for linguistic theory, displaying effects of core syntactic conditions in a noncanonical configuration that cannot be normalized with standard syntactic operations. We argue that these “connectedness” effects follow from the nature of pseudoclefts as equatives. This treatment yields an integrated account of the syntactic and semanticopragmatic properties of the construction, but leads to the conclusion that certain syntactic constraints apply to a level of representation more abstract than LF under most current conceptions. This representation is built up in the process of discourse interpretation and may constitute the interface with the conceptual-intentional system of mind.

This paper claims that Socrates’ refutation of Gorgias in the eponymous dialogue is designed not to find out the truth about the nature of the art of rhetoric itself but to refute the master of rhetoric himself. I try to justify this claim by displaying some major contradictions between the conclusions reached at with Gorgias and those reached at with Polus. When these contradictions are taken into account, the discussion with Polus is to be seen as reflecting the genuine Socratic position about rhetoric, whereas the discussion with Gorgias seems only to be devised as a dexterity in refutation.

This paper claims that Socrates’ refutation of Gorgias in the eponymous dialogue is designed not to find out the truth about the nature of the art of rhetoric itself but to refute the master of rhetoric himself. I try to justify this claim by displaying some major contradictions between the conclusions reached at with Gorgias and those reached at with Polus. When these contradictions are taken into account, the discussion with Polus is to be seen as reflecting the genuine Socratic position about rhetoric, whereas the discussion with Gorgias seems only to be devised as a dexterity in refutation.

Resumo:

Chemical investigation of the marine sponge Spongia sp., collected from the Fiji Islands resulted in the isolation of three new furanoditerpenoids 1-3, along with the known compounds epispongiatriol (4) and 17,19-dihydroxyspongia-13(16),14-dien-2,3-dione (5) While 1 is a new spongian diterpene with a modified oxidation pattern, compounds 2 and 3 represent two new ring A-contracted spongians, displaying a novel and unprecedented nor-spongian carbon skeleton. Despite their labile nature the structures could be established through a combined strategy including complete analysis of spectroscopic data (NMR, MS), molecular modeling and quantum-mechanical calculations.

Resumo:

The Tamblingan land conflict is closely related to the investment trend heading towards Bali’s upstream area. Investors are converting Tamblingan forest land into hotels and tourism to reap the benefits of nature tourism in the most natural forest. This issue is discussed in the novel Kunang-Kunang Hitam by Geg Ary Suharsani. This paper aims to describe the struggle of the female character Ni Luh Candri in the Tamblingan land conflict as narrated in the novel Kunang-Kunang Hitam (KKH). This study uses a Susan Griffin perspective ecofeminism approach. The results of this study indicate that the struggle of the female character Ni Luh Candri in defending the Tamblingan forest is divided into two forms: Ni Luh Candri’s struggles related to nature, such as refusing land conversion, protecting rare plants, symbolic communication to fireflies and Ni Luh Candri’s struggles related to nature humanistic environment, such as becoming Leak, burning incense, displaying rangda mask, and advocating for communities around the forest. This research proves that women can take various important actions (ecological environmentalism) to preserve the environment.

Resumo:

This research study is an attempt to examine lovely metaphorical tapestries in the selected poems of Ghani Khan and John Keats. Ghani Khan's poems Marg and Reidi Gul, are compared with two masterpieces by John Keats, namely La Belle Dame Sans Merci and Ode to a Nightingale. This study is scaffolder by the conceptual metaphor framework proposed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The study unweaves the metaphorical motifs displaying the essential and underlying themes of love, death, and nature in the selected poems. The qualitative analysis has revealed the richness, beauty, and artistry in the poems of both poets. Ghani Khan's poem Marg presents a comprehensive image of death figuring out its aura, mystique, and philosophy. On the other hand, Keats painted vivid imagery of love and nature imbued with melancholy. While highlighting the similarities and differences, this study also argues about the creative and cultural forces pervading these works.

Tourist lines serviced by historic vehicles function in several cities. One of them is Wrocław (Poland) in which the current offer based on trams was extended with buses in 2021. In the article, an assessment of Wrocław Tourist Lines has been carried out regarding the tourist product and its development, while additionally determining its stage in the product life cycle. To this end, among other elements, data on the number of passengers and ticket sales have been used. After 13 years of existence, the offer has developed traits of a mature product, displaying fairly stable journey figures. However, it did not use the significant potential of the heritage public transport fleet in Wrocław to the full. That is why, in recent years, several changes have been introduced to the structure, marketing and pricing of the tourist product, which have improved journey frequencies and, even more importantly, increased the passenger rate per service. Therefore, it can be claimed that as a result of the actions undertaken, the product has entered a rejuvenation stage, but this process is still fairly unmarked. The main disadvantage of the product is its marketing and the way the offer is communicated to potential passengers.
