Discarding the unreliable late evidence for the Library of Alexandria in the Hellenistic period, I establish a new history of libraries and books on more secure primary sources. Beginning in the second century BCE at various places across the eastern Mediterranean, rich, powerful men began to sponsor collections of books. These new public displays of aristocratic and royal munificence (euergetism) so transcended earlier holdings of books—which had been small, vocational, and private—that in an important sense they constitute the invention of the library. As political institutions, these libraries depended on a revaluation of books, treating them as valuable irrespective of their content, and in various domains people increasingly attended to books as formal objects. Romans accelerated the pace and scope of this biblio-political revolution and extended the revaluation of books, transformations which gave a deeply anachronistic imprint to the frequently cited late stories about Hellenistic libraries.

Contemporary literary criticism is increasingly seen in an interdisciplinary concept between literary science and journalism (e.g. Mária Stanková). There may be several reasons for this, not least the fact that literary critical texts are now written not only by renowned literary critics, but also by anyone interested in commenting on literature. In view of the increasing subjectivity of expressing and presenting the reader's evaluation of a work of fiction in literary-critical reviews, we focus on its various types published in 2021 with regard to emotionally-expressive lexical units. The aim of the paper is to compare the peculiarities of expressive-emotional expression in reviews of literary-cultural periodicals (Fraktál, Books on the Reach) and opinion-forming media (Pravda, .week) by means of text analysis.

From November 1939 to March 1941, the monthly magazine ?Slavenska muzika?, a journal of the Association of Friends of Slavic Music, was published in Belgrade. The magazine did not differ from other Serbian magazines of the interwar period in its sections. ?Slavic music? also published essays on music, music criticism, reviews of books and music editions, notes, news, obituaries, and in one case, polemics. However, differentia specifica of this review is the exclusive focus on the music of the Slavic nations. The study provides a review and analysis of the texts in this journal. It was noticed that in ?Slavic music? were crossed the Slavophile idea, which has a long tradition among Serbs, and Marxism, at that time strongly represented by one part of Belgrade musicians. The study also contains an integral bibliography of ?Slavic music?, which has not been published so far.

The arrival of the occupying armies in August 1968 and the subsequent normalisation purges resulted in an unusually large wave of emigration. The regime responded to this by closing state borders in October 1969. The great number of refugees brought new stimuli to activities in exile, such as establishment of new exile periodicals and publishing houses, which contributed to preserving independent Czech literature. Some of the books produced by publishing houses in exile were always intended for readers in Czechoslovakia, where they were transported using various smuggling routes. A new smuggling channel was created in 1983 – the so-called Austrian route – by agreement between Jiří Pelikán and Vilém Prečan. They used the code word “dictionary” for this route when communicating with each other. The “dictionary” was a large passenger car, which Jiří Pelikán authorised Adolf Müller to purchase and which was modified by experts from the American secret service who created a secret compartment for transporting books and periodicals in the luggage space. Vilém Prečan and Josef Jelínek then came up with a way to fill the compartment. Young teacher Helmut Bachmann, took receipt of the car from V. Prečan in Vienna. He was talked into collaborating by Jana Stárková. Bachmann drove the car to Czechoslovakia as a tourist roughly once every three months and Jiřina Šiklová organised receipt of the consignments in Prague. The compartment was created so cleverly that the Czechoslovak border control forces were unable to find it, even after thoroughly inspecting the car for forty minutes, something that occurred in March 1984. This transport channel, financed by Jiří Pelikán, was used from the summer of 1983 until the end of 1987, when the car was taken out of operation.

What follows is a list — covering items published between 1900 and 1986 — of serious accounts of the history of important architectural projects undertaken in Ireland between the late seventeenth and early twentieth centuries. It is intended to be comprehensive in respect of monographs, collective works and articles in non-Irish periodicals, but in respect of Irish periodicals it is a supplement to Richard J. Hayes, Sources for the history of Irish civilisation: articles in Irish periodicals (9 vols, Boston, 1970). None of the above definitions is rigidly adhered to: much is included which falls outside their limits, but an attempt has been made to include everything that falls within them. The following have not been comprehensively included: (1) Monographs on non-resident architects whose careers, notwithstanding Irish commissions, were mainly abroad, e.g. Robert Adam, G.E. Street, Edwin Lutyens. This is partly because such architects are so numerous (there is evidence of over a hundred British architects having professional contacts with Ireland between 1750 and 1850) and partly because they are already well served bibliographically, e.g. by Howard Colvin, A biographical dictionary of British architects, 1600–1840 (London, 1978); (2) studies of the foreign careers of Irish architects, e.g. James Hoban, Eileen Gray; (3) studies of vernacular architecture (but see entry under this heading in the index); (4) contemporary reviews or criticism of buildings; (5) reviews of books; (6) printed primary sources, such as J.T. Gilbert, Calendar of ancient records of Dublin… (19 vols, Dublin, 1889–1944).

The article deals with the original documents on the activities of the Academy of Sciences’ translators of the 18th century, stored in the St. Petersburg Branch of the RAS Archive (SPbB ARAS. F. 3. Op. 11). The materials include translators’ reports and letters on their work as well as various related documentation on recruitment and dismissal, job assignment, wages, rewards, illness and disability periods, etc. The tasks of the Academy’s translators covered the translation of current record keeping, as well as scientific and literary works; beyond that, a large layer of work was associated with translating articles for “Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti” and “Primechaniya” periodicals. In 1743 at the Academy of Sciences there was formed a so-called “Translation Expedition”, a structure having a major task to translate and release the above-mentioned periodicals. Ivan I. (Johann Caspar) Taubert was entrusted to control the work of the “Translation Expedition”. The article examines documents on the activities of Academy’s translators Ivan Akimov, Nikolay Bukhvostov, Ivan Golubtsov, Vasily Lebedev, Karl Friedrich Moderach, Nikolay Shikhmatov, Gustav Freygang, Vasily Teplov, Ivan Staffenhagen, Alexey Polenov, Samson Volkov, Semen Bashilov, Gur Ivanov, Ivan Ungebauer, Ippolit Bogdanovich, as well as the Chinese language translators Larion Rossokhin and Alexey Leontiev. The article also mentions the translation of a contract for the sale of a card factory, made in 1775 by Ivan Staffenhagen. In 1790 there was established a “Translation Division”, aiming at translating various useful books from foreign languages into Russian. The article examines the report of 1795 on the course of the “Buffon's Natural History” translation, undertaken by the “Translation Division” members, academicians S. K. Kotelnikov, S. Ya. Rumovskiy, A. P. Protasov among others. The examined documents on the activities of the Academy of Sciences’ translators of the 18th century demonstrate a variety of translation tasks, which, depending on specialists’ competence and experience, included translations of various levels and directions: materials for periodicals, current record keeping, as well as scientific and literary books.

Translations had a significant role both in the popularization of Eastern Armenian and the establishment of literary and cultural ties between the Armenian community and the British. The purpose was to further the international outlook, understanding and emotional experience of foreign environments and cultures, on the one hand, next was to make more literature available to children and to contribute to the development of the readers’ set of values. It should be noted that literary relations first of all contributed to the emergence of bilingual dictionaries. Shmavonian published an English-Armenian dictionary which was intended “for the entertainment of studious children” (Mkhitaryan 2016:81). 19th century was marked by social political changes and created conditions for the development of new Armenian literature which was so important for shaping the mind set and behavior of the Armenian children. Thus, Armenian translators translated literature in connection with social and economic forces. The Armenian printing business in India operated for a century and published almost 200 books, booklets and more than ten periodicals. In this article some translations published in Azdarar (The Intelligencer, 1794, Madras), Azgaser (the Patriot, 1845, Calcutta), Azgaser Araratian (Patriot Araratian, 1848. Calcutta), and Hayeli Kalkatian (Mirror of Calcutta, 1820, Calcutta) are examined.

A short story On 3 March, the Reuter correspondent in Belgrade reported: ‘The Yugoslav literary newspaper Knjizevne Novine has published a short story by Milovan Djilas … His first work published at home for 34 years, it was printed so that readers could ‘judge him on his literary merits’. Mr Djilas (76), once a close lieutenant of Tito, fell into disgrace in 1954, serving nine years in jail and being expelled from the party for criticising Tito's policies. He is widely known for his political books and essays, not so much for literary fiction. We acknowledge the publication of his short story in Knjizevne Novine as a step in the right direction; when the same story was printed some time ago in Encounter and Tempo Presente, both periodicals were banned in Yugoslavia. We are proud to present another short story by Milovan Djilas; in sending the manuscript, Mr Djilas was the first writer to respond to our invitation to contribute to this 100th issue of Index on Censorship.

This study expands the understanding of rare books — witnesses of the events of the World War II.The initial stage of formation of the library collections of Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IOC RAS, Department of the Library for Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences) occurred in the 1940s. Acquisition sources of literature were very diverse, so the collections contain books from the libraries of various institutions of the Russian Empire and the USSR. Among foreign publications, there are monographs and periodicals from the displaced collections of libraries of the German industrial organizations and educational institutions, received after the Great Patriotic War. Monographs of the library of the German Chemical Society were returned to the GDR in 1956. Books of industrial companies “Vereinigte Stahlwerke”, “Deutsches Kalisyndikat Bucherei”, “Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik Arthur Krupp A.G.”, “I.G. Farbenindustrie” and other are hitherto stored in the library holdings of IOC RAS. I.G. Farbenindustrie was the largest German chemical concern; it had its own laboratories for carrying out scientific research. Many famous chemists, including four Nobel laureates, worked there. The concern collaborated with the Nazi regime, developing artificial fuel, synthetic rubber, toxic substances. It had its own factories (Werk Auschwitz) and concentration camp in Auschwitz. The laboratories conducted chemical studies, and prisoners were involved in it. Providing scientific work with literature was an important component, so the laboratories had their own libraries. After the end of the War, most of the books probably remained on the territory of the plant, which was given to Poland. On its basis, the scientific and technical library of the laboratory was formed there, which later became part of the Chemical Institute. Some of the books from the Werk Auschwitz library got to the USSR, and some of them were transferred to the library of IOC RAS.This article for the first time considers the collections of IOC RAS from the point of view of the field-specific literature published before 1945. Copies with marks of domestic and foreign organizations, personal signs and autographs of scientists are especially valuable. These books can be attributed to the book monuments of the World War II. Thus, one of the most important tasks of the library now is to preserve and study them.

Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv (VSNSL of Ukraine in Lviv) is considered as an inheritor and successor for major Ukrainian libraries and institutions that constituted its base consequently to geopolitical upheavals of first half of 20th century. These are books, manuscripts, old prints, periodicals, notes and fine arts collections etc. from the libraries of Shevchenko Scientific Society, People’s Home in Lviv, monasteries, private collections, as well as Studion’s Library collection, whose substantial part now is being dispersed along the shelves of VSNSL of Ukraine in Lviv. The author defined the role of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi and Klymentii Sheptytskyi in establishing and maintaining this biggest specialized scientific library in Galicia at that time. The paper describes the rise and evolution of the Studion’s Library collection drawing on archival documents and revealing main stages of its formation, outlines objectives that Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi determined for it and highlighted Metropolitan’s activity in church and social fields resulted in formation of national and cultural institutions. The author also defined the outstanding role of Studion’s in the religious life of Ukrainians. The Studion’s Library collection was officially integrated into Lviv Branch of the Library of the Academy of Sciences of USSR on February 12, 1940. So the dispersion of the once rich collection started. Now those books and periodicals are parts of Rare Book Department, Manuscript Department, Ucrainica Department, Exchange and Reserve Department, Department of European book of 19th–20th cc. and others. These collections were repeatedly examined within several bibliological studies conducted by the Library’s researchers. The main objective of this study is to understand the foundations of the violent ethnic conflicts of Baluchistan, a federating unit of Pakistan so that the primary causes of the conflict are to be addressed. The mainstream theories of the ethnic conflicts primordialism, instrumentalism and constructivism are reviewed and applied in the context of Baluchistan. This attempt has been made because in the past state responded to ethnic conflicts without understanding the real foundations. The qualitative research methodology with descriptive and interpretive approaches has been adopted for dealing with the objectives. The article is principally based on the literature review. The arguments have been developed by juxtaposing the primary and secondary information collected through books, journals, periodicals, and electronic sources. It is argued, that primordialism has limited explanatory power while constructivism has explanatory power, but its appeal is limited in Baluchistan’s context. Instrumentalism explains the foundations sufficiently, while primordialism and constructivism provide the bases for instrumentalism. It is suggested that compromise and reconciliations should be adopted as the policy for ethnic conflicts so that the political and economic causes, instrumental in giving rise to ethnic conflicts, can be resolved.

The Book Chamber of Ukraine performs the functions of the national agency of the International System of Standard Numbering of Books (ISBN), music editions (ISMN) and periodicals (ISSN). Let me remind you that currently the State Archive of the Book Chamber Press is stored in a room of 10.5 thousand square meters. m, the fund has 15 million units of printed products published in Ukraine since 1917, and is constantly replenished with new publications. This is the only printing archive in Ukraine that has unique funds at its disposal, and therefore their replenishment, storage and scientific processing is an extremely important task, on which the objective reflection of the history of our country depends The electronic catalog "Books for the years of independent Ukraine" is functioning and constantly updated. Books and brochures are searched automatically for many parameters: author, title, publisher, year and place of publication, International Standard Book Number (ISBN), and so on. Books, newspapers, magazines, postcards are coming. There is no place to save them. The second floor is empty, as it is necessary to install fire extinguishing systems, air conditioning, racks… However, there is no money, employees did not receive a salary for May… It seems that the State Scientific Institution "Book Chamber of Ukraine named after Ivan Fedorov" after 102 years of fruitful life must die, taking with him the documentary memory of our country.

The catalog embraces every publication centrally acquired into the collections of over 50 RAS research institutions within RAS LNS Centralized Library System. The catalog entries are generated within “Bibliobus” integrated library system designed by RAS LNS professionals. Unlike other Internet-catalogs oriented toward the search logic of the traditional catalogs, the RAS LNS catalog enables to process practically unlimited range of queries embracing any elements of bibliographic entries and subject headings linked with Boolean operators “AND”, “OR”, “AND NOT”. Adding complexity of the search interface was chosen to minimize noise. To define whether the clients use the advanced search functionality and how often they do so, the analysis of demand was accomplished. The comparative qualitative and quantitative analysis data characterizes the demand for two periods: the first after 9 months of operation started in the mid-2016; the second – in 2018 for the following 18 months of operation. Main use indicators are compared and their dynamics is discussed.

What’s in a name? The short response is, quite a lot. For example, the title of this journal, Canadian Theatre Review, indicates an assumption that there is a homogeneous theatrical practice which can be called “Canadian.” But is this the case? And if so, how might we begin to examine the implications of a theatre which is defined by the political construct “nation”? The answers to these questions may at first seem so evident that the questions might be viewed as rhetorical. I can imagine a response along the lines, “Of course there is a Canadian theatre. Why else would there be journals like CTR, Canadian Drama, a reference book like The Oxford Companion to Canadian Theatre and the anthologies of Canadian drama which have appeared in recent years?” But this sort of response can be turned on itself so that these periodicals and books are not evidence of the existence of Canadian theatre but rather of the desire for Canadian theatre, for a theatre which defines use as a nation thereby giving us a sense of identity. (For an excellent discussion of the implications of the creation of a Canadian dramatic canon see “Voices (off): Deconstructing the Modern English-Canadian Dramatic Canon” by Richard Paul Knowles, forthcoming in The Canadian Canon: Essays in Literary Value. The question of the appearance, distribution and active use in the Ukrainian liturgical practice of the XVIIth – XVIIIth centuries of sheet music, handwritten and printed song books is relevant because of its connection with the historical process of development and flourishing of monosinging, a cappella and church singing in Ukraine. Due to the deep and fundamental analysis of archives, historical, pedagogical and musicological resources, the use of the problematical, purposeful and comparative methods of investigation was proved that sheet music song books accumulate countries-old theoretical and practical experience of performing of everyday and holiday psalms. Complex and integral approach to the object of investigation helps to testify to the fact that at the end of the XVIIth and the beginning of the XVIIIth centuries the process of gradual unification of song books took place. They began to get used to psalms which were popular and widely-accepted in church vocal and choir singing. It is grounded that the main centres of developing of such Ukrainian music art as hymn singing were leading cultural and educational state establishments – Kyiv, Lviv, Ostroh, Starodub, Chernihiv. It is stressed that music books were the first note printed books appeared on the lands of the east Slavs and foreseen the eight-voiced vocal construction that means systematization of singing using eight voices according to the church calendar. Their active popularization and utilization greatly quickened the process of reformation of note linear notation, coming into being and development of professionalization of musical education. In the middle of the XVIIIth century note vocal music books made considerable part of so-called ''Kiev'' linear writing in which ''hard style'' of notation is replaced by the ''light style'' that is more contemporary. They naturally became the main educational, methodological and musical guides. These initial investigations are sure to help in further clarifying this problem in periodicals as well as enrich the content of art training of specialists in this field with new and valuable information.

Abstract Daniel Diez Couch’s American Fragments offers a scholarly analysis of the fragment, a mainstay of American print culture in the early national period. In American Fragments, Couch argues that fragments were central to both American aesthetics and American political culture. Insisting that the fragment was an inclusive and progressive form that invited readers to consider the relationship between a part and the whole, Couch shows how fragments helped Americans understand themselves and their place in a democratic republic. Couch’s book is deeply researched, and it provides insightful readings of well-known texts like Hannah Fosters’s The Coquette, Charles Brockden Brown’s Edgar Huntly, and Washington Irving’s Sketch Book while also introducing readers to a host of poems and other shorter writings that appeared in newspapers, periodicals, and gift books throughout the early nineteenth century. The original research in American Fragments is engaging, and it is also emblematic of a new wave of scholarship enabled by the widespread digitization of books and newspapers in that it introduces so many new texts that are difficult to connect to existing timelines and canons. In this respect, Couch’s book also reveals the limitations of the monograph as a tool for revisioning our collective scholarly project.[R]ight now, the scholarship pushing us to reimagine our literary past is running ahead of the forms in which it might be published.

The 19th century is called the “golden age” of a children’s book. At this time, a variety of children’s literature appeared, first of all in Britain. The model of a decorated book are the books of Kelmscott Press. However, it was precisely at this time that a series of children’s books with a modest design at affordable prices, such as the so-called “one-penny” series “Books for the Bairns”, emerged. Ideologist and permanent editor of Books for the Bairns William T. Stead was a well-known journalist, founder and editor-in-chief of periodicals, public figure, child rights defender and a fighter against child prostitution. In 1912 he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, but scandalous reports, imprisonment, and his interest in spiritualism made W. Stead’s im- age controversial. The concept of the series, created by Sted, is based on a combination of an adapted simplified literary translation and a detailed step-by-step visual story that accompanies the text. The chief illustrator and visual co-author of W. Sted was the Irish artist B. Le Fanu (Brinsley Le Fanu, 1854–1929). For B. Le Fanu, the illustration of the series was the biggest art project. At his time, B. Le Fanu was known for the illustrations to the works of his father — Sheridan Le Fanu, one of the founders of the Irish mystical novel. They have the characteristic features of the Victorian era. Making illustrations for children’s books, B. Le Fanu does not lose their fantastic nature, but combines them with a realistic drawing. Each cover of the series represents one of the main characters of the book. A simple but vivid picture, one or two characters on the cover, a landscape or interior outlined by several elements — that’s what the covers by B. Le Fanu were like. None of them are decorated with patterns or ornamental details. The artist consistently implemented the concept of simplicity and clarity suggested by W. Sted, but not primitiveness. The best volumes in the series are his illustrations of L. Carroll’s “Alice’s in Wonderland” and M. Servantes’s novel “The Adventures of Don Quixote”. The “Books for the Bairns” series, although not exquisitely designed and illustrated, has become a model for children’s literature publishers for half a century and inspired the appearance of similar series of cheap children’s books in Western Europe and also Russia and Ukraine.

The aim of the article is to reconstruct the possibilities people living in the part of Poland an-nexed by Russia had to access Polish-language periodicals published outside that area. The author draws on two types of sources hitherto barely every used: monthly lists of imported publications dealt with by tsarist censors between the fall of the January Uprising and the outbreak of the 1905 Revolution, lists published by the (Central) Committee of Foreign Censorship in Saint Petersburg, as well as all minutes of meetings — preserved in the Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw — of the Warsaw Censorship Committee from the analysed period, which contain justifi cations of the decisions taken by the officials with regard to various publications. In addition, the author has been able to access nearly all issues of journals censored in any way at the time and currently kept in the 23 largest Polish historical libraries. It turns out that import attempts (possible only in the case of periodicals that had not been previously proscribed) were rare and concerned only 93 titles. In the case of over a half of them censors prevented even a single issue from being circulated. Justifications of the refusals were similar to those formulated with regard to books. Most of them focused on protecting the Orthodox religion, the Imperial House, and Russia’s policy. Particular attention was paid to limiting the infl uence of the Catholic Church and the Poles’ aspirations to freedom. However, sometimes censorship was — perhaps deliberately so — inconsistent. It seems that the limited scale of import was also infl uenced by the limited interest in publications from beyond the cordon on the part of the local readers, who were satisfi ed with Warsaw publications.

The problems arising from construction and demolition waste have always been in our country. The civil construction industry is the sector that generates the most waste that impacts society and is the one that consumes the most raw materials. As a result, it is necessary and extremely important that there is a sustainable management of construction waste. The irregular dispositions of these residues cause many negative impacts to the environment, since they are often thrown in vacant lots, permanent preservation areas, roads and public places, harming the quality of life of the population. Recycling can generate a significant economic advantage in relation to the final destination both in regular deposits and mainly in relation to the irregular ones that cause so much damage to the environment. This study sought to collect information on the current situation on construction waste. And in order to be developed, the present work used bibliographic research in books, specialized magazines, periodicals, and electronic media. Concluding in the final considerations, in which vital points of the research are presented followed by the stimulations the continuity of the studies and the reflections on the generation of solid residues in the civil construction.

The purpose of the article is the issue’s clarification of reflection of the figure of the last kish ataman of Zaporozhian Sich P. There are used the historical-comparative, historical-typological, historical-system methods during a covering of the topic. The heroic figure of the last kish ataman of Zaporozhian Sich P. Kalnyshevsky was reflected mainly in monographs, collections of documents, scientific articles, local lore, materials of scientific conferences, educational literature, periodicals. At the same time, it is remained out the attention of researchers its coverage in the pages of encyclopedias, dictionaries and reference books. Scientific research refers to encyclopedic, dictionary and reference books, which contain articles about P. Kalnyshevsky as an important historiographical source. There is analyzed the reflection of the figure of the Zaporozhian leader in different historiographical periods. It fits generally into the context of the general development of Ukrainian and foreign historical science. Prolonged silence in the historical science about P. Kalnyshevsky was accompanied by various conjectures, distortions of facts and falsification. Historical science become an ideological servant of the totalitarian regime, in the Soviet era. It considered the history of the New Sich and the figure of P. Kalnyshevsky simplified mostly and distorted, from the so-called party-class approaches. Radical changes in the approaches of Ukrainian historians to the history of the Cossacks and their leaders, including to P. Kalnyshevsky, took place after the restoration of state independence of Ukraine in 1991. The revival of national traditions of Ukrainian historical science began, the methodology and topics of scientific research were updated, and there was intensified the integration of domestic historiography into European and world historiography. All this affected the reflection of the figure of P. Kalnyshevsky on the pages of encyclopedic and reference books, dictionaries.

The founder of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Tadeusz Stanisław Wróblewski (1858–1925), began to enrich the library of his parents, which he inherited in 1891, through his acquisitions of books, manuscripts, periodicals, collections of iconographic documents, and other valuables. One of such book collections, offered to him for sale in 1907, was from the Pustynia Estate located near the town of Kraslava, then part of the Vitebsk Province (Kraslava now is a municipality center in the Republic of Latvia, situated not far from Daugavpils and near the border with the Russian Federation). This collection belonged to Count Henryk de Broel-Plater (1868–after 1926). Having studied its catalogue, Wroblewski purchased from the count his entire collection (over 6000 volumes) on October 30, 1907, for 2.5 thousand roubles. However, Plater had hid several hundred of his most valuable books, which he later offered to Hieronym Wilder’s antique bookshop in Warsaw. Wroblewski had to exercise a considerable effort to reclaim the books he rightly owned. Based both on archival materials kept in the Wroblewski Library of LAS and on evidence collected about publications carrying the Pustynia Estate provenance mark (350 copies have been identified so far), the article discusses the circumstances of the purchase of Plater’s book collection and overviews its content and development. The Pustynia estate library was rather universal by its content and contained extremely valuable editions. Wroblewski purchased from the count, among other rarities, Joannes Radvanus’s Radivilias (Vilnae, Metropoli Litvanorum: ex officina Ioannis Kartzani, 1592), a Latin biography by the Lutheran pastor Paul Oderborn Ioannis Basilidis magni Moscoviae ducis vita (Witebergae: excudebat haeredes Ioannis Cratonis, 1585), and a treatise on the differences between the Catholic and the Orthodox faiths by the Kraków canon Jan Sakran, Elucidarius errorum ritus Ruthenici (Cracoviae: typis Joannis Haller, post V 1501). There are no more copies of these and several other Plater’ s books in Lithuania.

The aim of this article is to analyze the possible contributions of entrepreneurial education (EE) in the training of citizens in the scope of Vocational and Technological Education. In order to do so, we carried out a bibliographical research through books and scientific articles at Google Scholar, SciELO and Capes Periodicals Portal based on the following keywords: “entrepreneurial education”, “vocational technological education”, “professional education” and “social entrepreneurship”. The review covered the period from 2000 to 2019. The theoretical framework was based on the studies of Lopes (2010, 2017), Dolabela (2003, 2008), Dornelas (2008) Frigotto and Ciavatta (2006). In a globalized world, it is fundamental to provide the student of vocational and technological education, conditions to meet the demands of society, reconciling economic growth and professional and social development. In this sense, we noticed that entrepreneurship education represents a possibility to enable this student to change the scenario in which he is inserted, through a dynamic, responsible and citizen behavior. The understanding of these contributions could help the expansion of the concept of entrepreneurial education to an education of holistic approach, allowing a greater insertion and applicability of the entrepreneurial education in professional education, enabling the development of the human being in a social environment.

The high priority of studying the library collections and reading circle of frontier guards is stipulated by the important role that libraries play in organization leisure time for this category of military servicemen, whose service often takes place in so called “bear corners”, outside of civilization. In connection with the absence of publications on the history of Officer’s Library of the Staff of Trans-Amur Military District of the Separate Corps of Frontier Guards the presented article for the first time gives careful consideration its collection, acquisition of books and periodicals for different departments and underdepartments by January 1, 1911. The results obtained show that the catalog in a bibliographic sense has been prepared professionally. The book collection of the library contributed to the professional development of guards and solution of their official tasks, as well as to the organization of cultural leisure activities. The owner of the catalog served as the base for an analysis of this collection is clearly defined. The editions prepared by the Staff of the District and later presented in the book catalog are specially identified. The interest that modern human science shows in the Enlightenment as time still continues and has become one of the reasons to examine the periodicals of the 1760s and 1770s as part of its complex social and cultural process. Separating a specific cul-tural practice for analysis allowed concentrating on identifying some anthropological senses in cultural changes and some ways of coping with current conflicts. The author of the article observes how the magazines that are identified as satirical (Truten’, Zhivopisets, Vsyakaya Vsyachina, Adskaya Pochta, Smes’, and others) make a dialogue between the book and reading. The significance of this topic is the early discussion on the problem of educating the nobility that was held in the society. In the 1760s and 1770s, the topic became popular in a new way because of the ideas of Catherine the Great to educate people “of a new brand”. To solve the problem, the government started to reor-ganize educational institutions whose programs began to include secular science, books and art. However, home schooling remained closed for changes. There, medieval spiritual books still dominated because “aunties”-tutors (so-called “starushki”) were afraid of any cultural innovations. The well-known thesis that, in the second part of the century, the authority of medieval texts became weaker is proved by different magazine articles that were based on the daily experience and examinations of contemporaries who were the witnesses of the cultural changes and who had to choose what to read, where and how to teach their children. In publications of different genres, we can notice that the press con-tinued to value the book and reading as a good way to learn and educate. Besides, medie-val texts appeared to be something that favored superstitious views on the Universe. In the then contemporary satirical ideas, medieval books marked the changing generation of readers. Some examples of parents’ sanctimonious views on religious beliefs, disrespect towards governmental rules, cruel treatment of serfs degraded the value of reading medie-val books. On the contrary, positive heroes showed interest in the new secular knowledge and books, tried to become well-read and study foreign languages, to be capable of making a free choice. To bring up such a noble person was only possible if their parents were thoughtful to their children’s natural proclivity and to the choice of their tutors, and were sensitive to governmental changes. Generations that could stop reading Old Russian books were changing their reading habits. They became free in choosing books and in reading them critically. The trend to be well-read made reading more dynamic.

This article presents an account of those works, related to conceptual history and historiographical issues, written by the American historian of political thought Melvin Richter. The attention is primarily directed toward the reception of the German historiographical style called “Begriffsgeschichte” (“history of concepts”), and especially on its reception among Anglophone scholars. Therefore, the main objective of the article is to throw light on Richter’s understanding of Begriffsgeschichte, and to sum up his efforts to put in contact Koselleck’s “history of concepts” with the works of authors such as Quentin Skinner and John G. A. Pocock, who are associated with the so-called “Cambridge school contextualists”. Thus, the aim is to point out their direct thought about Begriffsgeschichte, and consequently, to see how they’ve reacted to Richter’s proposals concerning the possibility of adopting that “history of concepts” as the frame for future historical researches. By doing so, and relying mainly on the extensive contributions appeared on the pages of the specialized periodicals, this article highlights some of the principal reactions to the theoretical and practical implications of “conceptual history”; in particular as they are emerging in the midst of what is indeed a recent and still ongoing international debate. Furthermore, the article tries to compare Koselleck’s Begriffsgeschichte with some works of “analytical bibliography” (which is a highly reliable form of physical and textual analysis of books). It is also interesting to note that these bibliographical studies are associated with Cambridge University as well as the historical researches of Skinner and Pocock.

Considering that at the moment we are working on a broader study about the Latgalian literary trends in modern times (since the 90s of the 20th century), policy determination of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre is an important stage in Latgalian publishing. Originally the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre brings together the brightest Latgalian writers, researchers and is the only centre of books published in Latgalian, but at the turn of the century due to various factors the situation changes. In this article correspondence of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre (1990–1997) is used as a source of research from copies of letters which are kept at the research centre of Baltic philology at Rēzekne Academy of Technologies (21 sets of letters with a 191 letters); an interview with the Head of the publishing house Jānis Elksnis and separate articles in periodicals on the activity of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre are sources of this research. The aim of this article is with the help of the mentioned correspondence and available documents to reveal the book publishing policy of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre, its role in Latgalian book publishing, as well as to focus attention on the understanding of the functionality of Latgalian language development in this correspondence and operating policies. Theoretical basis includes ideas of critical discourse analysis represented by Norman Fairclough (1995) and socio-cognitive approach represented by Teun van Dijk (2006), highlighting the role of discursive practices in creating stereotypes and influence of social identity on the creation of specific ideology.Existence of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre all this time, of course, is the merit of the dedication and enthusiasm of the head of the publishing house J. Elksnis. In literary critical terminology, we can say that all the time the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre is in a border situation: during the 90s of the 20th century there were a relatively large number of Latgalian writers and scientists, but the publishing, book distribution, marketing skills of the publishing house employees were negligible. This situation was more favourable for Latgalian literature and activity of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre in general during the first decade (1999–2008) of the 21st century: the total number of books published: 241; books published in Latgalian: 81; 5 of them published repeatedly. Throughout the period of existence of this publishing house (according to the available data) 562 books were published, 135 of them in Latgalian or bilingual editions (18 books published repeatedly).Analysis of the correspondence gives a possibility to understand why many problems connected to the Latgalian culture and language are being dealt with so slowly or continue to be unimportant and unknown to wider public.First, assessing the initial stage of activity of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre, it comes obvious that efforts of the non-governmental organizations, dedication and enthusiasm of individual personalities can explain or activate some process, but the solution of the problem or maintenance of a process in long term needs a broader institutional support and focused planning of publishing. On the one hand, the formally defined status of Latgalian “as a historical option of the Latvian language” does not create obstacles for the usage of Latgalian in further and optional education, publishing of books and periodicals and its usage in local municipalities. On the other hand, such status is like a throwback which is remembered about only during pre-election and in discourse on separatism and as a threat to the development of the Latvian literary language and as a tool for entertainment industry to create comical effect or contribute to the development of pop music in another region.Second, the internal disagreement, which emerged in the correspondence between freelancers and volunteers during the 90s, was mainly attributable to the language reform and divided the intellectuals who wrote and read in Latgalian, as a result of which most of elder generation authors protected catholic standards and stood up for the preservation of P. Strods’ writing and V. Locis’ traditions, as well as it was supported by the catholic church in their choice of language to print religious texts, and it was also adopted by the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre. Hence the main mission of the Publishing House of Latgale Culture Centre – to cultivate Latgalian language and develop literature – was functioning only in one direction (especially after the adoption of spelling rules in 2008) – maintenance of literary almanac “Olūts” and edition “Tāvu zemes calendars” and creating the background literature, which in fact promoted the so-called third dialect and prevented the young and middle generation from involvement in the development Latgalian cultural environment.

So, before 1926 there was only one newspaper in Kalmyk Oblast ― Ulan Khal’mg (Kalm. ‘Red Kalmyk’), while that very year proper witnessed the emergence of multiple periodicals, such as Krasnaya step’ (Russ. ‘Red Steppe’), Kalmytskie izvestiya (Russ. ‘Kalmyk News’), journals Vestnik Kalmytskogo obkoma VKP(b) (Russ. ‘Newsletter of Kalmyk Oblast VKP(b) Committee’), Za rabotu (Russ. ‘Down to Work’), etc. Goals. The study seeks to clarify the impacts of Kalmyk Oblast Party Organization on the development of regional print media. Materials and Methods. The article analyzes multiple ― and authentic ― documents stored at the National Archive of Kalmykia (Party Collection), key research principles being those of objectivity and historicism. Results. The work concludes that issues of print media’s development were regularly discussed at Party conferences, plenums, and meetings of Kalmyk Oblast Party Committee. The latter’s Bureau would employ experienced journalists to strengthen republican and district-level newspapers. The published books and brochures were summarizing political, organizational, and ideological experiences of party organizations. Kalmyk- and Russian-language newspapers and journals were tightening ties between the Party and people, which facilitated an easier implementation of state policies. Thus, print media were used by the Party and its agencies as a means of political mobilization and education.

Anna Seward (1742-1809) made detailed plans toward her posthumous legacy in the last decades of her life through the compilation and editing of her poetical works and letter books, as well as the negotiations for their publication. In having her life’s work and correspondence published after her death, Seward challenged societal and literary expectations already subverted by publishing in advanced age and asserted the value of her own production and, by extension, her literary authority, at the end of her career. While this is a known claim, this article aims to go further and examine this material and its reception from the perspective of age studies in order to ascertain what roles gender and old age played in both Seward’s self-presentation in this compilation and in the failure of her act of self-canonization. For this purpose, this article investigates the intersection of gender, marital status, and old age (the triple-layered “old maidism”) in eighteenth-century perceptions of age and aging, and questions how that intersection affected her work’s editorial process and its reception. To do so, the article addresses Walter Scott’s and Archibald Constable’s—her editor and publisher, respectively—treatments of the material and of the detailed instructions Seward left them in her will. Finally, it assesses the reception of the posthumously published works in three periodicals of the time: The Critical Review, the British Review and London Critical Journal, and The Monthly Review.

William F. P. Burton's career straddled several worlds that seemed at odds with each other. As a first-generation Pentecostal he pioneered, with James Salter, the Congo Evangelistic Mission (CEM) at Mwanza, Belgian Congo in 1915. The CEM became a paradigm for future Pentecostal Faith Mission work in Africa, thanks to Burton's propagandist writings that were published in at least thirty European and North American missionary periodicals. His extensive publications, some twenty-eight books, excluding tracts and articles in mission journals, reveal that the CEM was a missionary movement animated by a relentless proselytism, divine healing, exorcism, and the destruction of so-called “fetishes.” The CEM's Christocentric message required the new believer to make a public confession of sin and reject practices relating to ancestor religion, possession cults, divination, and witchcraft. It was a deeply iconoclastic form of Protestantism that maintained a strong distinction between an “advanced” Christian religion, mediated by the Bible, and an idolatrous primitive pagan religion. Burton's Pentecostalism had many of its own primitive urges, harkening back to an age where miraculous signs and wonders were the stuff of daily life, dreams and visions constituted normative authority, and the Bible was immune to higher criticism. But his vision also embraced social modernization and he preached the virtues of schooling and western styles of clothing, architecture, and agriculture. It was this combination of primitive and pragmatic tendencies that shaped the CEM's tense relations with the Belgian colonial state.

<p><em>The Family Card is an authentic deed whose evidentiary power is binding and perfect. The family card should be perfectly crafted, and there are no errors or doubts of the data in it. If there are changes in data should be immediately reported and corrected to the authorized agencies. Making family cards and birth certificates without attaching a marriage certificate citation according to the latest regulations has degraded the correctness of the data in the family card. In proving the status of marriage in the family card basically must still attach a marriage certificate citation because the marriage certificate quote is the only evidence that proves the validity of marriage for Muslims in Indonesia. Even if the manufacture of Family Card is allowed with a Statement Of Absolute Responsibility and 2 (two) witnesses, it should still be examined conditions harmoniously. There is no violation of the prohibition of marriage to prove the validity of the wedding because based on the fact of the marriage will bring up the name of the father in the column of parents of the child. The purpose of this study is so that policymakers and product users do not misinterpret or interpret the description "undocumented marriage" on the family card. The research methodology of this journal is a descriptive normative approach that is qualitatively analyzed based on research on legislation and books and periodicals on marriage and marriage recording.</em></p>

Africa Commons: History and Culture refers to one of the four modules in the African Commons database. The History and Culture resource (i.e., module) covers the cultures and history of Africa and offers the user more than 400,000 documents, including periodicals, books, images, and multimedia, ranging in date from the eleventh century to the present. The content is drawn from numerous institutions (e.g., universities and colleges, libraries, museums, corporations, governments) and countries (mostly in Africa) and covers almost 150 separate topics. As with other databases that provide images of original, historical documents, the readability of the materials available here can vary. Some are notably faded and therefore not easily read, though doing so is certainly not impossible. How exactly to navigate, enlarge, and reduce documents varies somewhat, as they are drawn from different online sources, but can usually be done without difficulty. Database content can be browsed and/or searched for by Title or Author or in the Summary, Full Text, or All Fields. However, searches by Title or in the Summary can often produce limited results, while those in Full Text or All Fields are far more productive. Even though the Search and Browse options are understandable and frequently produce useful content, it can be difficult to determine how relevant the search results are to the query submitted because the titles are generally not descriptive and summaries lack detail. Pricing is determined by the type and size of an institution, and consortia discounts are available. The content is in many ways exceptional, given its great breadth and depth, so it will be very useful to students and researchers of African history and culture, despite the difficulties mentioned above. While the licensing agreement for this database is too long and detailed, its provisions are average and give little reason for concern.

Digital innovation starts with a problem worth solving. We’ve found it’s amazingly helpful to have a single statement that represents the nature of the problem, which’s experiencing it, and why it’s so important to solve. There for the main problem is “To what extent consumers are fitted and accepted Digital transformation attributes”. This research could serve as a base for further investigation and improvement on the DHL express in Eritrea. Enhance our understanding of digital system and consumers driving. Moreover, it will contribute to the understanding of whether consumer are accepted and satisfied the digital transformation system in a developing country context. This research could also serve as a base for anyone who wants to study about how much consumers are accepted the digital transformation driving on them without any compliment on Postal Express service delivered in Eritrea. In addition, it will create a sense of awareness to the people who are engaged in offering digital system services on DHL. To undertake this research paper, primary and secondary data used. Primary data gathered by distributing online questionnaire to a sample of consumers. Secondary data extracted from several sources such as internet, magazine, books, periodicals, journals, company documents, etc. This research focuses on the digital transformation of consumers on DHL express despite the fact that consumer driving in digital transformation system is critical issue in any type of business. It focuses only on transformation from analog to digital system on consumers in experience on DHL express. It doesn’t concern about the technical issues of the DHL express over the entire world.

Like in most other nations of the world, the round leather game (football) is one sport that triggers the display of solidarity among Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion and other social affiliations. Another experience of a similar magnitude of show of solidarity in this country is the Festivals of Arts and Culture which also displays the potentials in tourism. This study examined the potentials of Arts, Culture and Tourism as instruments of unification of Nigerians for purposes of a stable Nigerian political environment as well as the need for an inclusive public policy. Data was obtained from secondary materials while the mode of analysis was content analysis. The secondary materials include – books, journals, periodicals, newspapers, the internet, etc. The sociological and anthropological modernized theory, Durkheim (1997) was adopted as the theoretical framework of the study. Findings showed that, the Festivals of Arts and Culture across this country are often associated with so much fanfare, enthusiasm, relaxation, show of solidarity, oneness, that people tend to forget their social identities, groups, ethnicities, religions and other social inclinations. Hence, this paper suggested that government evolves an inclusive policy that would regularize and formalize the organization of Festivals of Arts and Culture in this country. The paper came to the conclusion that such festivals with great potentials for the unification of nationals should be harnessed for purposes of the peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians. The paper noted that this could only be realized through a well-articulated and inclusive public policy on Arts, Culture and Tourism.

Professor Allott observed nearly a quarter of century ago:“There can be no justification (other than inertia) for the continued application of the unreformed English law of torts in modern African countries”.There is no doubt that he was right; there is equally no doubt that it is still substantially the unreformed law which is applied. Certainly there has been very little in the way of legislative change. This paper is not concerned mainly with this question, but with what uses African litigants and their lawyers have found for this exotic field of law, and also, to some extent, with the further question of how far the law has proved fitted for the tasks.A glance at legal periodicals in the United Kingdom and even more so in the USA indicates that there is something of a ferment in tort scholarship. We find writers asking questions like “Does tort have a future?” While at the same time others demand that tort take on new roles. By way of complete contrast, it might appear from African legal literature that the law of tort is of virtually no significance. There are very few books and journal articles are relatively rare. It attracts even less attention from those who write on law and development. It has been said of the Antipodean law of tort that it “does not, in general, reflect the Australian outback and its pastoral economy, nor New Zealand's earthquakes, volcanoes and glaciers, nor exemplify an Australian or New Zealand ethos”.

The history of the book is everywhere, so widely diffused that it merits comparison with the famously elusive Scarlet Pimpernel, whose pursuers sought him without success. Like that figure, book history passes among us in disguise, reluctant to reveal its presence even as it gains ever-greater recognition. In some quarters, it lurks within the domain of bibliography, a field of scholarship dedicated to describing the histories of printed texts and, in the service of this enterprise, concerned with the details of book-making. Elsewhere, book history installs itself within descriptions of libraries and education, sharing, with the first of these, a concern for how old books were accumulated and classified and, with the second, for the many ramifications of literacy and the fashioning of schoolbooks. Together with the history of journalism it studies how news was disseminated and ponders the significance of periodicals, be these newspapers or magazines. Political history has been another convenient site of disguise in the wake of efforts to connect the public sphere and concepts of nation with the emergence of print culture. And, of course, book history has enjoyed a long and fruitful kinship with literary history, a relationship freshly energized in recent decades as literary historians turned to describing the rise and remaking of a canon and to emphasizing the mediations that all texts undergo—the “sociology of texts,” to borrow a phrase made famous by D. F. McKenzie. To this list we can add the version of intellectual history that reconstructs the reading of a person or group and employs this data to generalize about the coming of the Enlightenment and similar formations.

The formation of modern ethnic and cultural identities in non-state communities is a process that, in addition to general assumptions, also required increased cultivation of the institutional backdrop of the given national movement. In the case of the Bulgarian national revival, one of the characteristic features is the systematic and long-term absence of domestic printing presses, which during almost the entire 19th century limited the development of book culture. A key factor in this cultural situation is not only the weak representation of cultural elites, but also the systematically enforced legislative measures by the Ottoman state, which prevented the establishment of a polygraphic center on Bulgarian territory. For this reason, the printing of nearly all production of Bulgarian books and periodicals was realized outside the Bulgarian lands until the late 1870s. The Tanzimat reforms also had a paradoxical effect, in the context of which the Turkish Press Act came into force. Based on it, the initial prerequisites were created for the gradually introduced censorship, which concerned the entire Ottoman Empire. As part of it, applications for the establishment of printing presses, which were systematically rejected for the Bulgarian lands, were also under thorough control. This paper therefore tries to present a basic typology of censorship measures, which it follows on two basic levels – in the aspects of the external and internal effects of the Ottoman power, at the same time pointing out the fact that the traditions of freedom of speech were not established either during the so-called national revival or after the introduction of the Ottoman constitution from 1876, or even after the liberation of Bulgaria in 1878.

The important pillar of the so-called democracy, which is an election, has been violent and marked by problems ranging from rigging, vote buying, illegal printing of voters’ cards, illegal possession of ballot boxes, stuffing of ballot boxes, underage voting, and falsification of election results to manipulation of results in Nigeria. Thus, the Nigerian experience with elections since independence has been quite challenging despite that conduct of elections is the only acceptable means through which the citizens of a democratic country can choose their representatives. This paper therefore appraises one of the important institutions introduced by Islam to cater to the promotion of good and prohibition of evil (ḥisbah) in society with a view to underline the importance of its institutionalization to stem the menace of electoral malpractices in Nigeria. The reason is that the institution of ḥisbah was successfully deployed during the classical periods of Islam to arrest cases of cheating in the marketplaces as well as the public dispositions. The study employs a qualitative research methodology based on literature review. Data collected from a variety of books, periodicals, and other sources, were then subjected to analysis. The findings of the study reveal that the electoral malpractices that characterized the past elections will be overcome and credible elections will be achieved if ḥisbah is institutionalized in the country. It concludes that the advocacy for its introduction in Nigeria is not an attempt to Islamize the country but a yearning call for the injection of an efficient institution that can change the narrative of electoral fraud in Nigeria as it was practiced in the Northern part of the country before its colonization.

The soviet press in the Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the 1930s. Introduction to the topic and remarks regarding languageThe author presents in brief the most significant facts from the history of Germans in Russia (from the Manifesto of Catherine II through the formation of the Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic), outlining on this background the activities of the German language press in the Russia and in the early Soviet Union, with a primary focus on the so-called new ethnicities policy and its consequences for the German minority. In the 1920s and 1930s in the VG ASSR, publication of books, textbooks, brochures, documents and reports in German began on a massive scale, especially press and propaganda materials. The new ethnicities policy of the Soviet authorities naturally boiled down to the rapid and proper indoctrination of ethnic minorities, "educating" them in the spirit of communist ideology. For the Bolshevik party newspapers were instruments of comprehensive propaganda and agitation.Until the mid-1920s, over 70 periodicals were published in German in the entire USSR. In the Volga German Republic, 21 newspapers were published in German, including the specialized Wolgadeutsches Schulblatt, Sei Bereit, Rote Jugend, but mainly press for the canton, the kolkhoz or sovkhoz level, and even papers for machinists (Tempo. Bolschewistisches Alltägl. Bulletin, Lenins Weg). Frequently the periodicals were published in Russian alongside a German-language version, e.g. Трудовая правда and Arbeiterwahrheit, as well as publications in Russian only, including Вперед к победе.The journalists' qualifications were very low. Periodicals frequently contained reports by "rabkors" (worker correspondents) and "selkors" (village correspondents), people for whom only very recently had been quite far removed from pouring out their thoughts on paper. The pages of the papers reflected the degradation of the German language used in the USSR, its mixing with Russianisms, especially Sovietisms, including peculiar acronyms (e.g. Ambar, Arbuse, Batrake, Otlitschnik, Partorg, Smytschka, Rote Tafel, Schwarze Tafel, KK der AP(B)SU, KVA der ASSR der WD, MTS). Prasa radziecka wydawana w latach 30. XX w. w ASRR NP zaczęto masowo drukować po niemiecku książki, podręczniki, broszury, dokumenty, sprawozdania, zwłaszcza zaś materiały propagandowe i prasę. Nowa polityka narodowościowa władz radzieckich sprowadzała się oczywiście do szybkiego i sprawnego indoktrynowania mniejszości narodowych, „wychowywania” ich w duchu ideologii komunistycznej. Dla partii bolszewickiej gazety były zbiorowym propagandystą i agitatorem. Do połowy lat 20. XX w. drukowano w całym ZSRR ponad 70 periodyków niemieckojęzycznych. W Republice Niemców Powołża wydawano 21 gazet w języku niemieckim, m.in. specjalistyczne „Wolgadeutsches Schulblatt”, „Sei bereit”, „Rote Jugend”, głównie jednak prasę kantonową, kołchozową, sowchozową, a nawet gazety ośrodków maszynowych („Lenins Weg”, „Tempo. Bolschewistisches Alltägl. Bulletin”). Często wydawano gazety w języku rosyjskim i ich wersje niemieckojęzyczne, np. „Трудовая правда” i „Arbeiterwahrheit”. Wychodziła też prasa w języku rosyjskim, m.in. „Вперед к победе”. Ambar, Arbuse, Batrake, Otlitschnik, Partorg, Smytschka, Rote Tafel, Schwarze Tafel, KK der AP(B)SU, KVA der ASSR der WD, MTS).

The article explores the problem of personification of historiography of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921. It is emphasized that the research work consists of a complex of searches and a thorough research of archival Ukrainics outside of Ukraine will help to activate the process of attribution of authorship of the researchers of the Revolutionary Age through their disclosures. It is emphasized that the study of various aspects of the historiography of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921 requires the coverage and involvement of numerous publications from periodicals and books. In doing so, researchers are constantly confronted with anonymous, pseudonymous, and crypto-printed and handwritten works that require a lot of time, effort, and searching. Attention is drawn to the fact that one of the most difficult problems in attribution of authorship is establishing a true surname among several applicant authors, when it is necessary to undertake a set of measures: to get acquainted with the biochrony of the applicant authors, to find out in more detail the scientific interests of these authors by analyzing their other publications, to determine the place and year of publication, publishing house or print body of publication, and finally compare these facts to obtain the appropriate result. It is concluded that the problem of attribution of authorship of researchers of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921 is an integral part of the problem of personification of national history as a whole, has many aspects of research and needs further thorough study and generalization. The author is convinced that further progress in solving the problem of attribution of authorship, that is, the discovery and authorization of aliases and kryptonyms, is related to the successful use of archival Ukrainian materials.

Purpose: In terms of UN peacekeeping deployments, the African region has received the most, just as it has contributed the most in terms of military personnel. The Liberian UN-ECOWAS joint peace operations are acknowledged by many as one of the most successful, globally. The study argues that experiences from these operations can enrich this global effort. Hence, the study sought to establish lessons from the operations that could guide future peacekeeping operations. Methodology: The study adopted a research approach that was analytical, descriptive, legal, historical and sociological; where data was mainly gathered from secondary and tertiary sources. To this end, scholarly books, edited works, articles and periodicals (duly acknowledged in the reference list) within the study area of international peacekeeping and the Liberian Civil War, were reviewed. Policy and legal documents by the United Nations (UN) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), media stories, reports from non-governmental organizations, research reports and reports from the Liberian government in relation to the multi-functional peacekeeping operations in that country; were not left out when data was gathered for this write-up. Additionally, in terms of secondary sources, dictionaries, bibliographies, encyclopedia, databases, abstracts and indexing sources were used. Findings: Main findings were that the joint operations brought lasting peace to Liberia and that lessons from those experiences have the potential of guiding future peacekeeping operations across the globe. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study which is useful for academic, policy-formulation and implementation purposes, recommends: that the UN Security Council institutes prompt, appropriate and adequately funded interventions that have clear, effective and purposeful mandates at the start of conflicts; ‘spoilers’, ‘trouble makers’ and warlords should be heavily sanctioned; and effective coordinative measures be put in place by the UN so as to regulate activities of Non-UN peacekeeping actors.

In the twentieth century, with the rapid changes in business practice, the importance of quality began to increase significantly, both from enterprises and customers perspective. The increased importance of quality and the emergence of new methods and tools supporting quality management has caused in- creased attention to quality costs and quality costing systems. The aim of the article is to present the state of scientific achievements in the field of quality costing as one of the solutions supporting modern cost management. To achieve the purpose of this article, it was necessary to conduct literature analysis on the basis of selected books dealing with management accounting and quality management, as well as selected Polish journals. The articles were chosen from journals registered in BazEkon. The study covered the years 1977–2017, however, due to the varied access to journals, the study period differs for individual periodicals. The research made it possible to identify a research gap which refers to the context of a wider application of quality costing as an integral part of modern strategic systems of management accounting. The analysis shows that the quality cost calculation has been popular in Poland since the 1990s. Issues discussed in both scientific and practical publications prove that interest in this solution is still strong. In many publications the concepts of quality, quality costs and model approaches to the calculation of quality costs, prepared by the greatest authorities (so-called Quality Gurus) dealing with this issue are presented. However, there are also publications presenting authors' concepts in this area. The transformation of quality management and creation of many new tools supporting quality management resulted in a change in the nature of quality costing, which is now an integral part of the management process.

At the end of the year 2020, social media was in an uproar over the addition of the jihad narrative to the call to prayer, which included an invitation to jihad. Certain elements of a small portion of the Muslim population exhaled the issue. This study aims to examine the position of the call to prayer in Islamic law and the evaluation of Islamic law regarding the call to jihad in the form of the call to prayer. This type of research employs a normative methodology. In the form of the addition of the call to prayer narration, primary data sources were acquired from a variety of social media posts pertaining to challenges requiring jihad. Additional primary sources acquired from books and periodicals. The results of this study indicate that the call to prayer has been a part of Islamic law from the time of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, serving as a reminder and a call to congregational prayer. The call for jihad in the form of the call to prayer is not included as the call to prayer, may not be called as a call to prayer, and is called during prayer times and in a location that can cause people to panic, as the call for jihad in the form of the call to prayer has never been carried out and exemplified by the Messenger of Allah. By adding a narration to the call to prayer, Muslims should not be inflamed by jihad appeals. However, one cannot overlook the phenomena of the call to jihad that has gone viral because to the actions of specific individuals. Obviously, the government and related bureaucracy wish to take resolute measures so as not to disrupt public order as a consequence.

Resumo:
The author scrutinizes the development of civil society in the early republican Turkey focusing on the models of its interaction with the state in the context of Kemalist revolution, namely the large-scale reforms of the 1920s and 1930s aimed at building the “New Turkey” as a modern secular nation-state. He analyses various manifestations of grass root civic activity in Turkey in the 1920s and 1930s. In doing so, it focuses on the rural population’s reaction to the Kemalist land and taxation reforms. The article contributes to the exiting literature in two following ways. First, it challenges the existing assumption that the rural population of the early Republican Turkey sporadically protested against only the most visible cases of social injustice. It also suggests counterarguments to the thesis that at that time the center and periphery had their own socio-political dynamics isolated one from another. Second, the article introduces to the reader a wide range of Turkish sources (e.g., “public columns” in the main periodicals of that time, petitions published in the yearly books of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, party inspectors’ reports stored in the fund of the Republican People’s Party). An analysis of the data presented in these sources and its comparison against already known historical facts form the article’s methodological framework. The author explains the key social contradictions about the land question. He further on defines the main forms of systemic grass root civic activity and the structural elements of the Kemalists social basis on the periphery. The main findings are that in the 1920–30s the rural Turkey witnessed both legal and illegal forms of resistance. The absence of a full-scale working formal state structure on the periphery made the Kemalist state curbing this resistance by using patron-client networks centered on the figures of “aga”, the wealthy local landlords and merchants.
