The monograph is devoted to computational aspects of photogrammetric reconstruction of narrow-angle bundles of projecting beams that existed during the survey. Methods of improving the conditionality of systems of linear equations, ensuring the convergence of iterative refinement of their roots, increasing the stability of calculations in finite precision machine arithmetic are considered. The main efforts are focused on solving the problem of establishing reliable measurement weights within the framework of the least squares method. The criteria for the reliability of the weights are determined. Algorithms have been developed for matching the initial values of the measurement weights, adjusting the weights during equalization, and identifying insignificant parameters of mathematical measurement models. A new method for evaluating the accuracy of the equalization results has been developed. For specialists engaged in the processing of remote sensing data of the Earth and mathematical processing of the results of heterogeneous measurements using weighted methods of statistical estimation of the parameters of functional dependencies.

The monograph examines the ROLL technology that allows solving the climate problem in the steelmaking, energy and cement industries. We are not talking about the exclusion of carbon from the technological process, but about the neutralization of the resulting carbon dioxide. ROLL technology is based on the idea of producing several products from a single heating of raw materials, and the main tools are universal ROLL chambers that bring allied productions closer together in time and space. This reduces the energy intensity of the total product and directs the saved and produced energy to neutralize carbon dioxide. It is intended for scientific and engineering workers, teachers, graduate students and students interested in this problem.

Kolesnichenko, Ol'ga. Theoretical and legal foundations for assessing and compensating for harm to health in the physical sense: rejection of the formula “cannot be assessed, cannot be compensated” in domestic civil law. ru: Publishing Center RIOR, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.29039/02141-5.

Resumo:
This monograph sheds light on the problem of assessing and compensating for harm caused by damage to a citizen’s health. The author notes that when mentioning such harm, a modern civil scientist leads himself into a situation of “scientific dead end”, stating the special, extraordinary value of the basic intangible benefits of an individual and at the same time refusing to attempt to justify the parameters for its full and effective compensation. The stated approach fits into the formula “not to evaluate cannot be compensated”, constructed by analogy with the expression known to everyone from childhood “to execute cannot be pardoned”, where the comma is set according to the prevailing doctrinal views. As a means of solving the identified problems, the author proposed a conceptual approach based on giving legal significance to manifestations of damage to a citizen’s health, considered in their direct, physical meaning. The monograph formulates the concept of physical harm and defines the prerequisites for constructing an optimal regime for legal regulation of its assessment and compensation. Intended for teaching staff, researchers, individuals studying in educational institutions of higher education in legal specialties (areas of training), and anyone interested in the problems of the development of domestic tort law.

This chapter starts with the recognition that policymaking usually precedes evidence of what laws are effective in solving the problem at hand. That does not mean that policymaking cannot be guided by evidence. Policymakers can usually draw on extensive evidence defining the problem and evidence of analogous policy cases. This chapter identifies sources of policy recommendations and direct evidence of policy impact, including systematic reviews, narrative reviews, models, cost-benefit analysis, and individual studies. It reviews strategies for identifying bias and source credibility and tools for “educated guessing” about policy options in matters where evidence is scarce or incomplete, including causal mapping and the Haddon matrix. Finally, it introduces the Health in All Policies approach and the use of health impact assessments as tools to consider broader impact and cross-sectoral cooperation.

Creative cognition has long been hypothesized to rely on spontaneous as well as controlled cognitive processes. This chapter starts by giving a brief overview of pertinent dual process models of creative thought. It then reviews empirical research supporting the relevance of controlled and spontaneous processes in creative cognition (mostly defined by divergent thinking and insight problem solving). The relevance of controlled processes is mainly supported by verbal protocol studies and individual differences research on executive functions and intelligence. The relevance of spontaneous processes is mainly supported by research on incubation and neuroscientific investigations. The chapter concludes by considering potential ways of interaction between goal-directed, controlled thought and undirected, spontaneous thought, both from the short-term perspective of immediate creative problem solving as well as from the long-term perspective of extended creative work.

Chapter 32 expounded the basic theory of quantum LB for the case of relativistic and non-relativistic wavefunctions, namely single-particle quantum mechanics. This chapter goes on to cover extensions of the quantum LB formalism to the overly challenging arena of quantum many-body problems and quantum field theory, along with an appraisal of prospective quantum computing implementations. Solving the single particle Schrodinger, or Dirac, equation in three dimensions is a computationally demanding task. This task, however, pales in front of the ordeal of solving the Schrodinger equation for the quantum many-body problem, namely a collection of many quantum particles, typically nuclei and electrons in a given atom or molecule.

When it comes to guiding students through the big end of the term paper or presentation, sometimes it's hard to know where to start, much less how to keep students on course once you get the ball rolling. These long-term projects culminate in products or presentations that nurture the information literacy skills students need to become self-directed learners. Students are educated, hands-on, about the many roles information technology can play in their search for knowledge. Brainstorming, strategizing, writing, critiquing, and oral communication skills are strengthened through these collaborative problem-solving projects. In each chapter, problems or issued presented for research integrate many curriculum areas. Students walk away from each completed task with a greater ability to ask the right questions and locate the best, most accurate, and timely answers.

The Analytic Element Method provides a foundation to solve boundary value problems commonly encountered in engineering and science. The goals are: to introduce readers to the basic principles of the AEM, to provide a template for those interested in pursuing these methods, and to empower readers to extend the AEM paradigm to an even broader range of problems. A comprehensive paradigm: place an element within its landscape, formulate its interactions with other elements using linear series of influence functions, and then solve for its coefficients to match its boundary and interface conditions with nearly exact precision. Collectively, sets of elements interact to transform their environment, and these synergistic interactions are expanded upon for three common types of problems. The first problem studies a vector field that is directed from high to low values of a function, and applications include: groundwater flow, vadose zone seepage, incompressible fluid flow, thermal conduction and electrostatics. A second type of problem studies the interactions of elements with waves, with applications including water waves and acoustics. A third type of problem studies the interactions of elements with stresses and displacements, with applications in elasticity for structures and geomechanics. The Analytic Element Method paradigm comprehensively employs a background of existing methodology using complex functions, separation of variables and singular integral equations. This text puts forth new methods to solving important problems across engineering and science, and has a tremendous potential to broaden perspective and change the way problems are formulated.

This book provides an accessible introduction to environmental politics through a powerful, discourse-centred approach which analyzes how environmental affairs are constructed and interpreted through language. It recounts developments beginning with the arrival of environmental crisis in the late 1960s, which yielded dire warnings about global shortages and ecological collapse. It moves through subsequent decades to the Paris Agreement on climate change, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and the anti-environmental backlash of denial and “Gray Radicalism”. The book develops an innovative approach to understanding contemporary environmental discourses, covering ecological limits and planetary boundaries, pragmatic problem-solving, sustainability, ecological modernization, and green radicalism, as well as radical anti-environmentalism. It analyzes key developments in environmental affairs alongside many examples that illustrate how discourses shape past and current debates on the environment. It concludes by examining the radical implications of the Anthropocene concept.

This review examines brain and cognitive processes involved in arithmetic. I take a distinctly developmental perspective because neither the cognitive nor the brain processes involved in arithmetic can be adequately understood outside the framework of how developmental processes unfold. I review four basic neurocognitive processes involved in arithmetic, highlighting (1) the role of core dorsal parietal and ventral temporal-occipital cortex systems that form basic building blocks from which number form and quantity representations are constructed in the brain; (2) procedural and working memory systems anchored in the basal ganglia and frontoparietal circuits, which create short-term representations that allow manipulation of multiple discrete quantities over several seconds; (3) episodic and semantic memory systems anchored in the medial and lateral temporal cortex that play an important role in long-term memory formation and generalization beyond individual problem attributes; and (4) prefrontal cortex control processes that guide allocation of attention resources and retrieval of facts from memory in the service of goal-directed problem solving. Next I examine arithmetic in the developing brain, first focusing on studies comparing arithmetic in children and adults, and then on studies examining development in children during critical stages of skill acquisition. I highlight neurodevelopmental models that go beyond parietal cortex regions involved in number processing, and demonstrate that brain systems and circuits in the developing child brain are clearly not the same as those seen in more mature adult brains sculpted by years of learning. The implications of these findings for a more comprehensive view of the neural basis of arithmetic in both children and adults are discussed.

With a foreword written by former presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, this book portrays President Barack Obama as a true child of Hawai'i and explains why he believes that America can achieve even more greatness by learning from the multicultural customs of the 50th state. Obama's aspiration to transform the United States using Hawai'i as his model has been a conspicuous theme in his books and speeches over the years. In them, he extols Hawai'i's multicultural ethos, describing how a normative, problem-solving mindset predicated on mutual respect and harmonious interchange is inculcated in the culture, politics, and society of the Islands. Indeed, this "Aloha Spirit" is imbued in Barack Obama, is part of what made him irresistibly charismatic as a candidate, and explains why voters in 2010 were baffled at his demeanor after he became the 44th President of the United States. This unique book examines Obama's decisions as an adult and as president and exposes how they are directly linked to the culture of Hawai'i and Obama's multicultural life as a child. The author and contributors also describe the ways in which native Hawaiians were dispossessed of their sovereignty and their land, how they steadfastly sought justice, and how their quest served as a model for Obama's mobilization of support for his candidacy.
