The calculation of the unfoldings surfaces has many practical applications, especially in the connection pipes of equal or different sizes. The work has the role of establishing a pipeline of an industrial installation, with a known configuration, composed by cylindrical, conical and prismatic surfaces. This paper, based on methods of descriptive geometry, gives all the necessary information to obtain the unfoldings and after that, by using numerical analysis, there are presented some algorithms used in developing the piece.

Resumo:
The paper is devoted to Descriptive Image Analysis (DA) — a leading line of the modern mathematical theory of image analysis. DA is a logically organized set of descriptive methods, mathematical objects, and models and representations aimed at analyzing and evaluating the information represented in the form of images, as well as for automating the extraction from images of knowledge and data needed for intelligent decision-making. The basic idea of DA consists of embedding all processes of analysis (processing, recognition, understanding) of images into an image formalization space and reducing it to (1) construction of models/representations/formalized descriptions of images; (2) construction of models/representations/formalized descriptions of transformations over models and representations of images. We briefly discuss the basic ideas, methodological principles, mathematical methods, objects, and components of DA and the basic results determining the current state of the art in the field. Image algebras (IA) are considered in the context of a unified language for describing mathematical objects and operations used in image analysis (the standard IA by Ritter and the descriptive IA by Gurevich).

Resumo:
Grammars, dictionaries, usage manuals and other linguistic references are traditionally categorized along a spectrum running from prescriptivist to descriptivist, yet for years problems with this system of categorization have been noted. Forty years ago Geoffrey Pullum cautioned against confusing methodology and motives when applying the ‘descriptive’ or ‘prescriptive’ labels (1974: 77–78). A few years later Emma Vorlat suggested a middle ground, that grammars codify the language along a continuum of prescriptive–normative–descriptive, that is codification based on arbitrary rules – usage by social elites – description without value judgment (1979: 129). Ingrid Tieken-Boon van Ostade noted that Vorlat's categories are not discrete, with eighteenth-century grammars increasingly basing prescriptions on descriptions of actual usage as the century progressed (2000: 877). María Rodríguez-Gil further noted that prescriptive grammars often base their advice on description of the language of social elites (2003: 190). Joan Beal characterized Robert Lowth's eighteenth-century grammars as both ‘normative’ and ‘descriptive’ (2004: 106). And Robin Straaijer has noted that ‘it seems useful to view prescriptivism and descriptivism as being independent from one another rather than diametrical opposites’ (2009: 67–68). Yet, perhaps because of the baggage carried by the two terms, to date no one has made the leap to conclude that the two terms address entirely different domains altogether – Straaijer approached the brink but did not leap. Prescriptivism and descriptivism do not exist along the same continuum.

Many problems of graphic building encountered in engineering are in fact problems of geometry. The continuous development of the modern technology and the appearance of the drawing and computing software solutions, allows the solving problems in several ways: using descriptive geometry or numerical methods. This paper proposes to establish a pipeline unfolding first using descriptive geometry then giving an easy programmable algorithm based on geometrical and numerical analysis considerations.

Linguistic intelligence is the intelligence of language intelligence in processing words or the ability to use words effectively both verbally and in writing. Project method is a project method is one method used to train children's ability to solve problems experienced by children in everyday life. Based on the pre-research results, it can be concluded that stimulation of linguistic intelligence through the activities and use of media in accordance with the activities of linguistic intelligence stimulation, and the method often used is the method of storytelling and play. The method of storytelling is not enough in the stimulation process, a trial using the project method is carried out.

Introduction As cost of cancer therapy continues to increase, several organizations have developed rubrics to ascertain treatment. No studies have evaluated these methods for hospital formulary decision-making. We applied different value measurement tools to formulary decisions from one hospital system to assess their operational utility. Methods We evaluated four value systems: National Comprehensive Cancer Network Evidence Blocks, DrugAbacus drug pricing, European Society for Medical Oncology clinical benefit scale, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology net health benefit. Each value score or cost was assessed against our hospital formulary requests between 2012 and 2016. Formulary requests accepted and rejected were compared with respect to their relative numbers of National Comprehensive Cancer Network blocks, difference between DrugAbacus and actual cost, and European Society for Medical Oncology and American Society of Clinical Oncology scores. Results Twenty-two chemotherapy requests were included, with 20 approvals and 2 rejections. No correlation was observed between number of evidence blocks and formulary acceptance (p = 0.13). Most drugs had a higher actual price than the DrugAbacus suggested cost (p = 0.036). No significant differences were observed in European Society for Medical Oncology (p = 0.90) or American Society of Clinical Oncology (p = 0.70) scores between drugs that were accepted or rejected. When evaluating monthly cost per point of American Society of Clinical Oncology score, a numerical difference between groups was observed (median = $369.7 versus $1256.8 per point, p = 0.61). Conclusions Existing oncology value assessment systems only variably inform hospital formulary decisions. The American Society of Clinical Oncology net health benefit score deserves further study as a method to systematically quantify the clinical safety and efficacy of formulary medication addition relative to cost.

This paper addresses the problems associated with defining and classifying events as nosocomial infections, discusses the methods by which rates of nosocomial infection are calculated and their rationales, and presents some specific rates useful in nosocomial epidemiology. Previously unpublished data demonstrate important differences between antibiotic susceptibility tallies produced by clinical laboratories and similar tallies derived from nosocomial infection surveillance data.Conversion of real world events into categorical data presents formidable difficulties. Surveillance personnel must classify a given series of clinical events as 0,1, or more infections and make a determination as to whether each infection is nosocomial or community acquired. High-quality research studies to validate these efforts should compare the sensitivity and specificity of methods used to some “gold standard.” The gold standard is usually a review of medical records or patients by an infectious diseases physician. But even the standard is flawed. In clinical practice this flaw presents less of a problem because therapy for infectious diseases is generally quite safe and may be instituted when the probability of infection is 10%, 5%, or even lower. For surveillance purposes a higher standard is required, which is particularly important when surveillance information is used to provide feedback data to physicians who understandably bridle at overestimates of infection rates in their patients. The overestimation of infections based on weak evidence under-cuts feedback efforts.

Understanding the methods and processes implemented by data producers to generate research data is essential for fostering data reuse. Yet, producing the metadata that describes these methods remains a time-intensive activity that data producers do not readily undertake. In particular, researchers in the long tail of science often lack the financial support or tools for metadata generation, thereby limiting future access and reuse of data produced. The present study investigates research journal publications as a potential source for identifying descriptive metadata about methods for research data. Initial results indicate that journal articles provide rich descriptive content that can be sufficiently mapped to existing metadata standards with methods-related elements, resulting in a mapping of the data production process for a study. This research has implications for enhancing the generation of robust metadata to support the curation of research data for new inquiry and innovation.

There is sometimes confusion over the correct statistical techniques that should be used in a particular setting. This paper outlines some methods that can be applied both to display information graphically and to summarise data numerically. The relative strengths and weaknesses of a number of diagrams and summary measures are examined. The particular method(s) that is used depends upon a number of factors. These are, firstly, the level of measurement of the data that have been collected; secondly, the overall distribution of the data being investigated; and, finally, the overall strategy of the plan of investigation. The reasons as to why a particular technique should be used are not always apparent and some methods for making a decision are discussed. Investigators should consider their choice carefully and be in a position to justify that choice.
