Abstract When the Surf Life Saving Association of Australia (SLSAA) invited American and Hawaiian lifeguards to compete at an international surf lifesaving carnival at Torquay, Victoria, in November of 1956, it did not foresee the far-reaching consequences of the tour. Noting that historians of the beach, and surfing in particular, frequently refer to the epochal significance of 1956, the paper utilizes predominantly surf lifesaving sources to explore the circumstances culminating in the month-long visit, discusses the appearance of Malibu boards, and then analyzes the consequences for Australian surf lifesaving in particular. The great irony of 1956 was that by welcoming the Americans and Hawaiians the SLSAA weakened its previous control over the beaches, as Australians found new ways to enjoy the surf.

The social media app Instagram has become a popular everyday way to share visual representations of surfing culture and experiences. Providing an alternative to mainstream surf media, images posted on Instagram by women who surf recreationally both disrupt and reinforce the existing sexualisation and differentiation of women in surf culture. Images themselves are not necessarily resistant, yet women are asserting themselves as a voice of surf cultural authority through processes of posting, sharing and engaging with images. While ‘big data’ research about Instagram is proving useful in terms of mapping spaces and movements, this article adopts an ethnographic approach to explore the notion that social media developments are changing possible ways of knowing and representing the world in which we live. Also considered is how lived experiences and social media shape each other in everyday lives and communities.

This article examines the local practices, histories, and transnational circulation and exchange of gender ideologies within Japanese surfscapes. A focus on gender in relation to Japanese surf culture is critical as the ways surf spaces in Japan are governed and/or have changed in recent years has as much to do with transnational gender surf ideologies as with its domestic gender norms. More specifically, we examine how gendered ideologies in Japan are mobilized in particular ways depending on the conditions of possibility—the cultural, social, geographical, historical, and networked elements—that comprise any given surfscape. To draw attention to the complexities involved in the relationship between space, place, and gender in Japan, the enquiry is undertaken in a highly localized, territorial, and big-wave surf site in Wakayama Prefecture and surrounding Kansai region. This site has been chosen because of how it localizes a unique mode of trans-Pacific surf culture, thereby offering insight into the nuances, issues, and strategies of social change as surfing continues to evolve in the region. The aim of the analysis is twofold. The first is contextual, highlighting the importance of the culturally and site-specific character of how surf culture and gender relations are assembled in the Japanese context. The second is to offer insight into the specific histories and transnational relationships informing the gendered practices of surfing in Japan today. The intention is to highlight the diversity of surf cultures throughout East Asia and the different ways surfing lifestyles are localized in relation to socio-political-ecological place-making and gender.

Skateboarding is an important part of 21st century culture and has considerable cultural, financial and entertainment value, as indicated by its recent incorporation in the Tokyo Olympics. It is practiced on human-made surfaces such as pavements and roads as well as on wooden ramps and within asphalt and concrete skateparks. Hundreds of examples of the latter were built worldwide during the skateboarding’s ‘Second Wave’ in the late 1970s–early 1980s, but nearly all were subsequently closed, infilled or destroyed. Very few original concrete parks of this key period survive and many are currently threatened with destruction. The historic status recently ascribed to two well preserved examples in the UK and Australia underlines a need to assess the heritage value of the other remaining original skateparks, as well as to consider possible strategies for their protection and conservation. The present article tackles this topic using selected examples of these unconventional historic structures from around the world.

Abstract Patches formed by dense accumulations of diatoms in the surf zone (surf diatoms) are common on sandy beaches with intermediate to dissipative morphodynamic states. Their appearances are correlated with environmental factors such as the passage of cold fronts when onshore winds increase beach hydrodynamics, resuspending epibenthic stocks and accumulating them through the inner surf zone. In Santa Catarina state, Southern Brazil, two beaches are known to have frequent occurrence of accumulations of the surf diatom Asterionellopsis glacialis sensu lato: Rincão Beach (28°50' S) and Navegantes Beach (26°52' S). The high biomass of this alga and its central importance in the trophic structure of the coastal ecosystems suggest studies about its potential applications. In the present study, strains of A. glacialis were isolated, cultured under different conditions and evaluated for ecophysiological aspects: growth rate under different conditions, potential biological activities of exudates, biomass and lipid content, and fatty acid profile. A. glacialis cells in culture showed deformation, which were ameliorated by using agitation and silicon and phosphorus enriched culture media. Exudates of the strains showed no allelopathic effects, although previous studies have indicated activity. Lipid content showed variation depending on the strain and culture media. Values ranged from 9% to 13.6% by dry weight. In all strains saturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids were identified. Some hypotheses were proposed to explain the variation of the lipid contents, fatty acid profiles and physiological features between strains of the same species. We believe that the fatty acids profile of this primary producer has important consequences in the sandy beach ecology.

La culture surf qui a tant marqué la côte ouest américaine à partir des années 1950, culture qui s’est mondialisée et commercialisée avec plusieurs tendances toutes aussi variées et inusitées les unes que les autres, a créé un univers aux proportions imposantes dans les dix dernières années. L’industrie du divertissement, du sport et du loisir est au centre de cette révolution, mais aussi celle du vêtement, de la mode et d’autres produits dérivés. Plus significatif encore, le surf original a influencé plusieurs pratiques sportives tant sur l’eau que sur terre ou sur neige, et désormais les intervenants touristiques de même que ceux en aménagement du territoire doivent s’adapter et composer avec ces nouvelles réalités. L’article dressera un panorama de cette constellation d’activités, qui ont le surf comme point de départ, et de leurs évolutions récentes. Puis, plus spécifiquement, il sera question des impacts de ces activités sur l’espace urbain à travers des modes d’appropriation de territoires en apparence plutôt inadaptés aux « sports de glisse ».

Firmicutes is almost a ubiquitous phylum. Several genera of this group, for instance, Geobacillus, are recognized for decomposing plant organic matter and for producing thermostable ligninolytic enzymes. Amplicon sequencing was used in this study to determine the prevalence and genetic diversity of the Firmicutes in two distinctly related environmental samples—South Dakota Landfill Compost (SDLC, 60 °C), and Sanford Underground Research Facility sediments (SURF, 45 °C). Although distinct microbial community compositions were observed, there was a dominance of Firmicutes in both the SDLC and SURF samples, followed by Proteobacteria. The abundant classes of bacteria in the SDLC site, within the phylum Firmicutes, were Bacilli (83.2%), and Clostridia (2.9%). In comparison, the sample from the SURF mine was dominated by the Clostridia (45.8%) and then Bacilli (20.1%). Within the class Bacilli, the SDLC sample had more diversity (a total of 11 genera with more than 1% operational taxonomic unit, OTU). On the other hand, SURF samples had just three genera, about 1% of the total population: Bacilli, Paenibacillus, and Solibacillus. With specific regard to Geobacillus, it was found to be present at a level of 0.07% and 2.5% in SURF and SDLC, respectively. Subsequently, culture isolations of endospore-forming Firmicutes members from these samples led to the isolation of a total of 117 isolates. According to colony morphologies, and identification based upon 16S rRNA and gyrB gene sequence analysis, we obtained 58 taxonomically distinct strains. Depending on the similarity indexes, a gyrB sequence comparison appeared more useful than 16S rRNA sequence analysis for inferring intra- and some intergeneric relationships between the isolates.

Abstract This article traces the colonial origins of sexism and hypermasculinity in modern surf culture. As white Americans increasingly took up surfing following the US annexation of Hawai‘i in 1898, sexism emerged as an enduring feature of the pastime. Indeed, it became ubiquitous during the sport's massive growth in the second half of the twentieth century, with sexist comments, photographs, and articles seemingly everywhere in the surf media. By the 1970s, women began to speak out more forcefully about the hostility and barriers they faced, though this was only the beginning of a long struggle for gender equality.

Basé sur une analyse ethnographique de l’univers du surf sur la Gold Coast (Australie), l’article s’intéresse au rôle et aux éléments constitutifs de cette figure dans les représentations de l’identité australienne. En effet, le surf incarne ici certaines des valeurs culturelles autour desquelles se sont construites les images de l’identité nationale. Parmi celles-ci, le courage assure un rôle paradigmatique, agissant symboliquement comme le pivot d’une culture sportive exclusive, majoritairement occidentale (blanche), se présentant comme un espace de manifestation et de définition de la masculinité. Séduisant écho contemporain du héros romantique, le surfeur australien incarne le charme de la liberté, l’attrait pour l’hédonisme « fun », la camaraderie entre jeunes hommes et — sans contradiction — l’individualisme compétitif qui caractérise l’éthique néolibérale et les dynamiques d’exclusion qui ont marqué l’histoire sociale et sportive de l’Australie après la colonisation.

Abstract Background Naegleria fowleri is a thermophilic ameba that is found in freshwater and causes primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM; 0–8 infections per year in the United States) when it enters the nose and migrates to the brain. Patient exposure to water containing the ameba typically occurs in warm freshwater lakes and ponds during recreational water activities. In September 2018, a 29-year-old man died of PAM after visiting a Texas inland surf park. Methods To determine water exposures, we reviewed medical records and conducted interviews with family and individuals who had traveled with the patient. To further investigate the inland surf park as a possible exposure source, we visited the facility and collected water, biofilm, and sediment samples from the surf park and other venues (water slides, lazy river, and cable park) within the facility. We assessed water sources and treatment practices, performed water quality tests, and tested for the presence of N. fowleri by culture and real-time PCR. Results Interviews revealed that the case-patient’s most probable water exposure in the 10 days before becoming ill occurred while surfing in an inland freshwater surf park where he fell off the surfboard into the water multiple times. The on-site investigation of the facility revealed a practice of manual chlorine treatment with monitoring, but no water filtering or record keeping to document water quality. Surf park water temperature was warm (25°C) and chlorine residual was negligible. N. fowleri was detected in 1 water and 1 sediment sample collected at the cable park venue, and viable thermophilic amebae were detected in all samples collected from the surf park, water slide, and cable park venues, as well from the sediment in the open-air groundwater reservoir feeding the venues. Conclusion This investigation documents a novel exposure in an inland surf park as the likely exposure causing PAM. Conditions in the surf park were conducive to amebic growth. Novel types of recreational water venues that do not meet traditional definitions of swimming pools, such as this surf park, might not meet the water quality standards for pools or similar treated venues. Clinicians and public health officials should remain vigilant for nontraditional exposures to water. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.

El surf es una práctica que cada vez acapara más relevancia en nuestra sociedad. Esta práctica tiene en multitud de comunidades implicaciones socioeconómicas que son cada vez más importantes ya que el aumento de practicantes ha conllevado también un aumento de empresas que tratan de prestarles servicios. Muestra de su creciente relevancia social es que cada vez son más los medios de comunicación generalista que dan cobertura a noticias vinculadas con el deslizamiento sobre las olas, en especial, seguramente por su estética radical, a los hitos alcanzados por los surfistas que cabalgan olas gigantes. El crecimiento de practicantes de surf se vincula con la representación fenomenológica que tiene de muchos de los valores aspiracionales de la sociedad contemporánea como la libertad, la vida en la naturaleza o el hedonismo. Valores asociados al espíritu Aloha, al cual se vinculan los orígenes del surf. Sin embargo, los hallazgos realizados tras una revisión bibliográfica de varios de los principales textos bibliográficos sobre la historia y cultura surf, nos llevan a la conclusión de que parece evidente la existencia de un interés en ofrecer una visión romántica de los orígenes del surf. El nacimiento del surf, aunque muchos historiadores pretendan negarlo, es una total incógnita, sin embargo, vincularlo con raíces polinesias ha servido para moldear la imagen paradisíaca socialmente construida que el marketing ha logrado perpetuar.
Abstract. Surfing is a practice that is becoming increasingly important in our society. This practice has socioeconomic implications in many communities that are increasingly important since the increase in practitioners has also led to an increase in companies that try to provide them with services. An example of its growing social relevance is that more and more general media are covering news related to surfing the waves, especially, surely due to its radical aesthetics, the milestones reached by surfers riding giant waves. The growth of surfers is linked to the phenomenological representation that they have of many of the aspirational values of contemporary society such as freedom, life in nature or hedonism. Values associated with the Aloha spirit, to which the origins of surfing are linked. However, the findings made after a bibliographical review of several of the main bibliographical texts on the history and culture of surfing, lead us to the conclusion that the existence of an interest in offering a romantic vision of the origins of surfing seems evident. The birth of surfing, although many historians try to deny it, is a total unknown, however, linking it with Polynesian roots has served to shape the socially constructed paradisiacal image that marketing has managed to perpetuate.

AbstractHistorically, the Gold Coast is a ‘young’ city and urban area inextricably tied to tourism, and a reputation for sun and surf. While this is undeniably true, another lesser known narrative bound to music-driven youth culture from the 1960s to the 1980s is also part of the Gold Coast's history. With ‘heritage tourism’ linked to popular music in recent years, this article examines how the Gold Coast's youth culture history may potentially inform new tourist practices in the country's sixth largest city. Regardless of whether such heritage tourism is ever adopted by the Gold Coast's governing bodies, mapping this relationship between music, youth and place offers a new perspective on an active Australian city— one often stereotyped as a place with a penchant for erasing its past and only looking to the future.

Although the origins of ugg boots are distinctly Australian, the ugg story has evolved through a number of different threads that shape our perceptions of the humble sheepskin boot. There is an international media narrative of ugg boots that, although rooted in Australian surf culture, shifts its focus to the world of celebrity culture and more recently, fashion institutions such as Parisian runways. In Australia, the media discourse on the ugg boot follows a very different trajectory; this narrative is concerned with agricultural practices, sporting activities and social etiquette that connect with the Australian landscape and a sense of national identity. This study traces the recent histories of ugg boots to explore the themes and tensions between differing constructions of this object through place, space and time.

The effect of sperm ratio on fertilization was evaluated in five sperm:oocytes treatments (10:1, 50:1, 100:1, 500:1 and 1000:1), the effect of temperature on embryonic and larval development in three temperature treatments (13 °C, 16 °C and 19 °C) was recorded and the duration of each stage, the growth rate and survival rate were registered. The oocytes were spherical (67.5 ± 4.2 μm) with a defined nucleus. Spermatozoa had a circular head (2 μm) and a fusiform flagellum (12 μm). The 500:1 sperm:oocytes treatment presented the lowest % of unfertilized oocytes, and lysis was observed in the 1000:1 treatment. An inverse relationship was observed between temperature and the duration of the stages of embryonic development. At 16 °C, veliger D larvae were observed at 41 h 45′ pf (88 ± 13.0 μm). Umbonate larvae were obtained at day 16 in the 13 °C culture and at day 10 in the 16 °C and 19 °C treatment (140 μm). On day 16 of culture, advanced umbonate larvae with a well-defined stomach (235 μm) were observed. The larval growth rate was higher in the 19 °C treatment (3.6 μm day−1) than the 13 °C and 16 °C treatment (2, 2.2 μm day−1). The mortality was higher in the 19 °C treatment (91%). These results are an initial contribution towards the culture of M. donacium as part of small-scale aquaculture in South America.

AbstractActivities to do with the coastline and the aquatic environment such as fishing, boating and seaside holidays have been mainstays of the Cornish peninsula for generations. Building on this legacy of marine leisure, this paper explores both the fluidity and materiality of waves, tides and coastal seascapes through a metaphorical framework encompassing symbolic as well as literal issues of pollution and embodiment. It examines Cornwall's distinct surf culture with regard to concerns over the effects of sewage and other malignant discharges on public health and the quality of the seashore environment. Extreme water sports are an increasingly prominent factor in the formulation of Cornish identity. Hence, the paper outlines the ways in which certain environmental pressure groups, charity campaigners and corporate surf companies have become involved in attempts to safeguard the ecological sustainability of coastal leisure pursuits. It does so primarily through ethnographic case studies concerning Surfers Against Sewage, protest-art exhibitions and environmental campaigns. On the surface, the symbolism of fluidity and pollution may appear contradictory. But through an exploration of the materiality of waves, this paper illustrates the dialectical ways in which water and the sea relate to shifting local identities and to creative forms of extreme subversion.

This study explores the impacts of introducing a surf pool in Madrid, Spain, on urban development, community dynamics, and local surfing culture. Through a qualitative methodology comprising in-depth interviews with local and non-local surfers, as well as a discussion group with residents of the neighborhood where the wave pool is being developed, we delve into the anticipated social, economic, and environmental implications of this innovative sports infrastructure. Our findings reveal a general optimism about the wave pool's potential to foster community engagement, enhance urban livability, and attract a vibrant, active population. However, concerns regarding potential gentrification effects and the sustainability of the project are also identified. This research contributes to the broader discourse on the integration of sports facilities into urban environments, highlighting the need for inclusive planning processes and sustainable development practices. The introduction of the wave pool in Madrid presents a unique case study in the interplay between urban sports infrastructure and city life, offering valuable insights for urban policymakers, planners, and the academic community. As cities continue to seek innovative ways to enhance urban environments and community well-being, the role of sports infrastructure, exemplified by the wave pool, emerges as a significant area of interest and investigation.

The article is devoted to the results of the survey of the archaeological heritage site “Chekanovsky Log-1 settlement” located on the right bank of the Alei river which currently belongs to the northern coastline of the Gilevsky reservoir in the Tretyakovsky district of the Altai Territory. During the exploration, the archaeological complex was examined for destruction, an eye plan was drawn up, and a general description of the current state of the monument was made. On the eroded part of the object, lifting material was collected, which was ceramics of the Late Bronze Age, presumably related to the Sargarin-Alekseevsk culture, as well as a fragment of a grater or grain grater. Based on the results of the measures taken, it is possible to draw a conclusion about the emergency state of the object, which is supported by the erosion of the surf line due to the activity of the reservoir. Significant anthropogenic impact is associated with the use of its area as a place for recreation and agricultural needs. Digital understanding of Indian classical dance is least studied work, though it has been a part of Indian Culture from around 200BC. This work explores the possibilities of recognizing classical dance mudras in various dance forms in India. The images of hand mudras of various classical dances are collected form the internet and a database is created for this job. Histogram of oriented (HOG) features of hand mudras input the classifier. Support vector machine (SVM) classifies the HOG features into mudras as text messages. The mudra recognition frequency (MRF) is calculated for each mudra using graphical user interface (GUI) developed from the model. Popular feature vectors such as SIFT, SURF, LBP and HAAR are tested against HOG for precision and swiftness. This work helps new learners and dance enthusiastic people to learn and understand dance forms and related information on their mobile devices.

This article takes Lingnan culture and cultural products as an example, combining virtual reality technology with the design of Lingnan cultural and creative products, verifies the effectiveness and rationality of the virtual evaluation system of Lingnan cultural products through the evaluation of examples of Lingnan cultural products, and proposes amendments to the evaluation case. This paper constructs a product design evaluation system based on virtual reality technology and designs a theoretical model VR, which is the application of virtual reality technology in product design evaluation. The PDES system expounds the idea and method of constructing the system model. This paper studies the evaluation object, evaluation content, evaluation method, evaluation platform, and manifestation of evaluation results of the Lingnan cultural product virtual evaluation system and builds the framework of the Lingnan cultural product virtual evaluation system. This paper studies the product display method based on virtual reality technology and realizes the three-dimensional display of products on the Internet and the design of user interaction in virtual reality. In this paper, the two algorithms BRSK and SURF are used together, and the multiscale expression characteristics of BRISK in space and the rotation invariant characteristics of SURF are used. Experimental research shows that, compared with the pure BRISK algorithm, the rotation performance of the method in this paper can be seen through the experimental results in this paper to have better accuracy. The method in this paper ensures the accuracy and accuracy of matching as much as possible.

The field green ICT focuses on the greening of ICT and using ICT to optimise the energy footprint of the ICT-supported processes. For organisations, applying green ICT in the broadest sense presents them with challenges. In this paper we explore what factors are influencing the adoption of green ICT. We follow three organisations that used a green ICT tool, the SURF Green ICT Maturity Model, to identify such factors. Tools like the maturity model help organisations identify the what and how. We found other factors, such as strategic alignment, culture and leadership, determine the why. As ICT is a general purpose technology, it potentially affects all processes in an organisation. To have a greening impact, the main challenge for green ICT is to take a systemic approach and involve all (relevant) parties. ICT departments often position themselves as support (followers, not leaders); this proves to be a big hurdle in the adoption of green ICT.

Uneasily situated between counterculture images projected by James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and the dawning of the “Age of Aquarius” a decade later, there emerged a motion picture interlude of innocence on the beaches of Southern California. It was fostered by Gidget (1959) and then thirty “surf and sex” movies that focused on young, attractive bodies and beach escapades rather than serious social causes.The films, argues Kirse May, “created an ideal teenage existence, marked by consumption, leisure, and little else.” Stephen Tropiano explains how their popularity helped shape “the archetypal image of the American teenager” and, reinforced by the surfin' sounds of Jan and Dean, the Beach Boys, and other recording groups, “turned America's attention to the Southern California coastline,” where “those who never set foot on its sandy shores were led to believe that life on the West Coast was a twenty-four-hour beach party.” This study examines a notable film of this genre to determine how musclemen were exploited to exhibit this playful spirit and how their negative reception reinforced an existing disregard toward physical culture. Muscle Beach Party illustrates how physical culture served other agendas, namely the need to address American fears of juvenile delinquency and to revive sagging box-office receipts within the guise of the “good life” of California.

For young Australians in the early 1960s America was the icon of pop music and fashion. This was the result of the projection of America through the mass media and the numerous American rock'n'roll acts that were brought to Australia by Lee Gordon, an American entrepreneur who lived in Sydney (Zion 1984). This overall tendency led the American, A. L. McLeod, to observe when writing about Australian culture in 1963 thatin general, Australian popular music is slavishly imitative of United States models; it follows jazz, swing, calypso or whatever the current fashion is in New York or San Francisco at a few months distance. (McLeod 1963, p. 410)Yet by late 1963 the potency of America was in decline. For while the Californian surf music craze made a somewhat delayed impact, especially in Sydney, the popularity of the Beatles was gathering momentum. This can be traced crudely through the Top Forty lists of the day: in Sydney the song ‘From Me To You’ entered the charts on 12 July 1963 and eventually reached number six (Barnes et al. 1979, p. 50).

Bharatanatyam is a classical dance form of India that upholds the rich culture of India. This dance is learned under the supervision of Guru, the teacher traditionally called in India. The scarcity of experts resulted in the decline of people practicing this dance. There is a need for leveraging technology in preserving and promoting this traditional dance and propagating it amongst the youth. In this research, it is attempted to develop a methodology for automated classification of Bharatanatyam dance postures. The methodology involves extraction of existing features such as speeded up robust features (SURF) and histogram of oriented gradients (HOG), which are used to train and test an artificial neural network (ANN). The results are corroborated with deep learning architectures such as AlexNet and GoogleNet. The proposed methodology has yielded a classification accuracy of 99.85% as compared with 93.10% and 94.25% of AlexNet and GoogleNet respectively. The proposed method finds applications such as assistance to Bharatanatyam dance teachers, e-learning of dance, and evaluating the correctness of the postures.

University of Vienna PhD, Jewish exile from Nazi Germany, and successful Hollywood screenwriter Kohner empathetically fictionalized his teenage daughter’s adventures with the original Malibu surf crew and in the process vividly signaled the emergence of a rebellious postwar youth culture. Just as interesting is the way Kohner’s entertaining comic drama of feminist awakening plays out through an intriguingly complex narrative voice, one blurring distinctions between its California teen daughter-protagonist-narrator and the father-author, both learned European exile and savvy Tinseltown operator. In subtly decisive ways, Kohner intervenes allusively and intertextually in the central narrative to anchor buoyant personal history in larger philosophical and political questions, in a cosmopolitan resistance to American puritanical norms, and in knowing reflection on contemporary discussions of representation and image. Gidget is a surprisingly postmodern textual space of disruption and juxtaposition that compellingly addresses its stealth core subject, a postwar America with its Western philosophical baggage and political and historical burden fumbling awkwardly forward toward new social and gender models.

The objective of the current study was to determine the comparative efficacies of homeopathic and allopathic therapeutic regimens to cure heamatogalactia in buffaloes. The study comprised 40 sub-clinically mastitis lactating buffaloes manifesting blood in the milk from one or two teats which were divided into two equal groups i.e. B1 and B2. Milk from the affected quarters identified subclinical mastitis of 1+ grade detected by Surf Field Mastitis Test (SFMT) and their cultural examination determined staphylococcal and Streptocococcal bacterial infection. Hamamalis-Q and Echinatia-Q were administered orally 10 drops twice /day one hr. apart for 7 days to the animals of Group B1 while allopathic drugs, i.e., Milfone-C 300 ml I/V, Inj. Adrenaline 1% sol. 5 ml I/V, formaline 5 ml orally and Inj. Penbiotic 5 gm were administered I/M to B2 Group animals daily for 7 days. Milk from the Group B1 animals became normal in 3 to 5 days. On the 8th day, milk culture indicated the absence of microbes and SFMT became negative validating the wholesomeness of milk while it took 7 days in Group B2 to recover only 11 animals with 9 animals remaining obstinate. Albeit all animals in both groups became negative on culture and SFMT basis on the 8th day, the problem persisted in a few animals of the Group B2. It was concluded that homeopathically treated animals recovered 100% in 7 days while allopathic treated animals recovered 55% only till the 8th day, showing the superior efficacy of homeopathic therapeutic regimen as compared to allopathic therapy to cure haematogalactia in dairy buffaloes.

Ruminant mastitis is a welfare and economic problem of livestock and the dairy industry. It is a major animal health problem in countries where livestock are raised for the purpose of milk production. This Review focuses on ruminant mastitis, etiologic agents, diagnostic test and associated risk factors. In this narrative review, a comprehensive literature search of all relevant articles was performed to identify articles published in Science Direct, Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, LISTA and AJOL. English articles published from 2010 to 2023 were reviewed and used. The findings revealed that even though Staphylococcus aureus, Non-aureus Staphylococci species, and Streptococci are the major mastitis pathogens. Others like Escherichia coil, Klebsiella, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Pseudomonas, Proteus, Serratia, Bacillus, and Corynebacterium etc were isolated from milk samples. Diagnosis was observed to be based on observation of milk and cardinal signs of inflammation of the mammary glands, the use of diagnostic test, like bacterial culture, Strip cup test, White side test (WST), Surf field mastitis test (SFMT), and California Mastitis test (CMT). Molecular typing techniques including PCR, Sequencing, MALDI-TOF MS, MLST, PFGE, spa typing etc have also been observed important role in characterizing agents of mastitis. Major risk factor observed is age, parity and stage of lactations. Clinical management of this condition in ruminants is based on the understanding of the etiology, and treatment options.

Abstract The rise of the American counterculture between the early- to mid-1960s and early- to mid-1970s was closely associated with the growth of environmentalism. This article explores how both informed popular music, which during these years became not only a prominent form of entertainment but also a forum for cultural and social criticism. In particular, through contextual and lyrical analyses of recordings by The Beach Boys, the article identifies patterns of change and continuity in the articulation of countercultural, ecological, and related sensibilities. During late 1966 and early 1967, the group’s leader Brian Wilson and lyricist Van Dyke Parks collaborated on a collection of songs embodying such progressive thinking, even though the music of The Beach Boys had previously shown no such ambitions. In the short term, their efforts floundered as the risk-averse logic of the commercial music industry prompted group members to resist perceived threats to their established profile. Yet in the long term (and ironically in the name of commercial survival), The Beach Boys began selectively to adopt innovations they had previously shunned. Shorn of its more controversial associations, what had formerly been considered high risk had by 1970 become good business as once-marginal environmentalism gained broader acceptability: thus did ‘America’s band’ articulate the flowering, greening, and fading of the counterculture. Resumen El auge de la contracultura americana entre principios y mediados de las décadas de 1960 y 1970 guarda una estrecha relación con la expansión del movimiento ecologista. Este artículo explora el modo en que ambas corrientes dieron forma a la música popular, un medio de expresión que se convirtió en una destacada forma de entretenimiento y un foro de crítica cultural y social durante el período analizado. Más específicamente, se emplea el análisis contextual y lírico de las grabaciones de los Beach Boys para identificar patrones de cambio y continuidad en los movimientos contracultural y ecologista, y otros afines a ellos. pen Defecation (OD) is the practice of defecating outside (in an open environment). It is a practice of defecating not in a designated toilet. It occurs in fileds, bushes, forests, ditches, streets, canals, or other open spaces. In Nigeria, the practice is common, and usual to find faeces even in cities, and school premises. This had caused Nigeria to ranked as the country with the largest turnout of OD in Africa, and second globally after India. OD is been practiced at schools because of reasons, such as; lack of toilets, lack of water, poor awareness, culture,and behavior. There are many effects of OD to education in Nigeria. Parable, OD enable diseases (example, diarrhea, trachoma, polio, typhoid, gastroenteritis, botulism etc) transmissions and in turn impede children's physical ability and cognitive development; it can also prevent children from attending schools (443 million school days are lost every year due to water-related illnesses); it causes drop out especially among girls; hours and days are spent by girls or boys seeking for places to defecate. Moreover, girls that are menstruating have the habits of abandoning schools because of poor sanitation. Children or students might be exposed to wild animals or violence on their way to surf for place to defecate. OD at schools can be control by taking measures: construction and maintenance of enough toilets hardware for males and females, creation of awareness among students and parents, and making laws to provide sanitation at schools.

What is at stake when political revolt depends upon radical inner experience? Is the only route to cultural and political change, as Kristeva seems to argue, through personal introspection and revolt? If we want more from life than the freedom to channel surf, as she says, need the direction of inquiry be primarily inward? Need there be an either/or of psychical versus public life? Is the only answer to social and political dead ends really found by turning inward? Is the micropolitics of the couch the path to freedom? “Today,” Kristeva writes, “psychical life knows that it will only be saved if it gives itself the time and space of revolt: to break off, remember, re-form. From prayer to dialogue, through art and analysis, the crucial event is always the great infinitesimal emancipation: to be endlessly recommenced.” In this essay I ask whether we might move Kristeva’s “New Forms of Revolt” from the couch to the polis with the help of one of her major interlocutors, Hannah Arendt, who reminds us that thinking is always a plural affair. I develop a link between Arendt’s thinking and Kristeva’s revoltto show how thinking-as-revolt puts subjects in relation to each other and to the political. Such a political culture of revolt can engage in the work needed to move beyond adolescent fixations in melancholic times. And with it we might in fact create more meaning for our lives.

The village of Canggu has recently emerged as a prominent destination in Bali, celebrated for its serene rice fields, vibrant beaches, and thriving surf culture. Canggu seamlessly integrates modern conveniences with authentic Balinese culture, complemented by the warmth of its locals, making it an appealing choice for digital nomads and other immigrant communities to make a permanent home. This phenomenon creates a societal transformation of Bali, transitioning from a predominantly homogeneous community to a more diverse and pluralistic society. Creating a challenge to the current Banjar democratic system. The situation underscores the necessity for an inclusive and adapted space that accommodates the diverse ethnic backgrounds now shaping the community. Balancing tradition with innovation, fostering community dialogues, and embracing participatory approaches is essential to reconstruct the democratic value in Balinese culture. This calls for a calls for an architectural design approach that is both nuanced and empathetic, with Deleuze and Guattari's concept of the 'rhizome' as a cohesive approach demonstrates the complex and interrelated structure of the developing social framework in Bali. The utilisation of market as a program represent intangible democracy that extends beyond socio-economics limitations, encapsulating inclusivity. Menciptakan tantangan bagi sistem demokrasi Banjar saat ini. Situasi ini menggarisbawahi perlunya ruang yang inklusif dan adaptif yang mengakomodasi keragaman dalam tatanan masyarakat. Menyeimbangkan tradisi dengan inovasi dan merangkul pendekatan partisipatif sangat penting untuk merekonstruksi nilai demokrasi yang tertanam dalam tradisi Bali. Hal ini membutuhkan pendekatan desain arsitektur yang kompleks dan berempati. Konsep ‘rhizome’ dari Deleuze dan Guattari digunakan sebagai pendekatan yang kohesif menunjukkan struktur yang menciptakan keterkaitan dari kerangka sosial yang berkembang di Bali. Pemanfaatan program pasar sebagai representasi dari demokrasi yang intangible melampaui batasan sosio-ekonomi dan merangkum prinsip inklusivitas. Narasi arsitektur disajikan dengan menggunakan prinsip arsitektur empati menunjukkan dedikasi untuk mempromosikan kolektifitas dengan arsitektur yang berfungsi sebagai katalis untuk memfasilitasi kehidupan bersama yang harmonis dari beragam tatanan budaya yang menjadi ciri khas masyarakat Bali yang dinamis.

The article is devoted to the consideration of European regulatory instruments for plagiarism prevention in higher education. It is emphasized that the prevention and fight against plagiarism in academic environment takes place within the framework of such international structures as the European Union (for example, Council Resolution on further developing the European Education Area to support future-oriented education and training systems 2019/C 389/01), Council of Europe (for example, Recommendation CM/Rec (2019) 9 of the Committee of Ministers to member States on fostering a culture of ethics in the teaching profession), as well as stakeholders’ international cooperation in education and science (Magna Charta Universitatum 2020, Platform on Ethics, Transparency and Integrity in Education, European Network for Academic Integrity, etc.). It is emphasized that appropriate steps are being taken at the national and institutional levels. Attention is drawn to the fact that at the national level, solving this problem is not on the list of priorities, and, consequently, progress in its solving is noticeable, especially at the institutional level. It is emphasized that achieving the maximum result is possible only by mobilizing the efforts of all stakeholders who take part in the educational process. Namely they are: the state, higher educational institutions, teachers, scholars, applicants of higher education, employers and other stakeholders. The examples of such successful cooperation include the activities of the Austrian Agency for Research Integrity, SURF and others. Emphasis is also placed on the fact that this cooperation can take place primarily in the framework of international project activities, in particular through the Erasmus + and Horizon 2020 programs (starting from 2021 it is called Horizon Europe), which are funded by the European Union and are important tools for creating common policies. The tourism sector has shown great interest in the development of gastronomy as it contributes to sustainable development and is a key attraction for visitors. Gastronomy has proven to be one of the main sources of income for different countries in the world, starting from the interest in the different culinary characteristics of each country: traditional dishes and drinks of the region or city, thus generating a first approach to the culture, tradition, customs and local characteristics of the destination, better known as tourism activity. Studying consumer profile and behaviour involves analysing the factors that influence an individual's decision making when making a purchase. This research sought to identify the consumer profile of theme restaurants, taking as reference the Rustica restaurant, located in Lima, the capital of Peru. It is a descriptive research of non-experimental design, constituted by a sample of 385 consumers, which applied the survey technique and the questionnaire was composed of 20 items. The results showed that the profile of consumers is made up of university students and young adults, living in districts near the restaurants; between 18 to 25 years old, where they highlight the importance of service quality and price, also, they surf the Internet, having Facebook and Instagram as their favourite social networks. It is concluded that knowing the profile and behaviour of the consumer allows to generate more successful marketing strategies in search of customer satisfaction. The importance of the study lies in obtaining reliable information regarding the characteristics of consumers of themed restaurants. In the future, it will serve as a source of information for studies on the consumer profile and for new entrepreneurs in making decisions to develop strategies focused on the target public.

This study aims to develop a concept of Immigration’s organizational culture known as “PASTI AKTUAL”, the acronym for Professional, Accountable, Sinergy, Transparent, and Innovative. While AKTUAL stands for Active, Creative, Trusted, Prominent, Credential and Logic. This article uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data are collected from various literatuures and resources such as scientific journals, relevant book, and other academic resources. The results of the study shows that the organizational culture based on “PASTI AKTUAL” has been accordance with Immigration core values and organizational vision. However, to internalize these values into individual action in order to creating new organizational culture, Immigration needs a role model in leadership, effective communication, appropriate training, and practical action.

Abstract Through a close reading of Walker’s first silhouette instalment-the audaciously titled Gone, An Historical Romance of a Civil War as it Occurred Between the Dusky Thighs of One Young Negress and Her Heart (1994)-this article examines how Walker utilises black camp to undermine both white supremacist and restrictive black uplift discourse. To be sure, the article is not an attempt to conflate these two, for the former is powerfully worse than the latter. However, it is necessary to explore how both discourses reinforce essentialist articulations of blackness and also to examine how black camp is a provocative analytic for their simultaneous disruption. Camp is usually understood as a queer-derived cultural practice that inflates identity to expose the constructed nature of gender. However, this article shows that black articulations of camp inflate identity to demonstrate the fiction of race as well.

The complex interactions between different social and cultural groups have a significant impact on language. These changes can affect various aspects of language, from those phonetics, lexical, and semantics, to syntax. This paper aims to analyze and reveal various semantic changes that occur in the Indonesian language caused by the development of technology and information. Several lexical units, surf, roam, home, tablet, google, zoom, status, crispy, and organic are several of many examples. Overall, these types of language change can be characterized by the emergence of new concepts in various fields. Semantic changes can be classified into various types, including metaphorical transfers, metonymic transfers, and semantic transformations. All these phenomena are examined in the framework of computer-mediated discourse. This study uses a structural research method of meaning analysis and involves a comparative study between the lexical meaning and the contextual meaning of the lexical unit being analyzed. This study concludes that there is a semantic shift in the Indonesian language-its quality and the impact on Indonesian language and culture, in general, requires further research and a more detailed linguistic description. AbstrakInteraksi yang kompleks antara kelompok sosial dan budaya yang berbeda berdampak signifikan terhadap bahasa. Perubahan-perubahan tersebut dapat berpengaruh pada berbagai aspek bahasa, mulai dari fonetik, leksikal, semantik, hingga sintaksis. Tulisan ini bertujuan menganalisis dan mengungkapkan beragam perubahan semantis yang terjadi pada bahasa Indonesia yang disebabkan oleh perkembangan teknologi dan informasi. Beberapa unit leksikal, selancar, jelajah, beranda, tablet, google, zoom, status, garing, dan organik, dijadikan sebagai percontoh. Secara keseluruhan, jenis perubahan bahasa itu dapat ditandai dengan munculnya konsep-konsep baru di berbagai bidang. Perubahan semantik dapat diklasifikasikan atas berbagai jenis, di antaranya transfer metaforis, transfer metonimis, dan transformasi semantis. Semua gejala tersebut dikaji dalam kerangka wacana termediasi komputer. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian struktural analisis makna dan melibatkan studi perbandingan antara makna leksikal dan makna kontekstual dari unit leksikal yang dianalisis. Penulis menyimpulkan adanya pergeseran semantik dalam bahasa Indonesia yang penilaian dan pengaruhnya terhadap bahasa dan budaya Indonesia secara umum memerlukan penelitian lebih lanjut dan deskripsi linguistik yang lebih terperinci.

Before Religion in Indonesia was Islam, they have embraced Hinduism and Buddhism. Afterwards, Islam came to Indonesia around 7 century. This is one of the reasons why Indonesia has acculturation of culture between cultures of Hindu-Buddha and Islam. At Indonesia, especially at Sumedang has a unique culture that interesting is researched. The culture is Bubur Suro that does every 10 Muharam. Bubur Suro had a long history from an ancestor. the chieftain said that the way to commemorate the Islamic new year and to remember the events of the Prophet Nuh and the Flood. In addition, this is enforced, with motivation to conserve ancestor tradition. This written uses method of history consists of heuristic, criticism, interpretation and historiography. In this research, it was revealed that the Sumedang community, especially Negarawangi village, the majority of followers of Islam who still maintain Sundanese ancestral traditions, so that every 10 Muharam they celebrate the celebration of Maulud Nabi and also the Bubur Suro ceremony. In conclusion, Islam and the Sundanese tradition in the Bubur Suro ceremony become a form of acculturation that is still maintained in the Rancakalong between Islam and the Sundanese tradition.
