Texto completo da fonteHigh-power fiber lasers adress an increasing number of applications since ten years. In the frame of a CIFRE contract between the company Eolite Systems and Xlim (joint laboratory between CNRS and the University of Limoges), the goal of this PhD project was to develop the technological blocs to achieve all-fibre high-power lasers emiting out of the conventional spectral band covered by existing lasers.Modal instabilities in large mode area (LMA) fibers are currently the main limitation of the fiber lasers power scaling. We have experimentally demonstrated the relevance of inner cladding aperiodic structures to efficiently delocalize higher order modes outside the gain region. A systematic study of passive fibers based on such structures has shown the single propagation of the fundamental mode over a wide wavelength range from 1 to 2 µm for dimension of core up to 85 µm. This effective mode delocalization even extends up to a core dimension of 140 µm at a 2 µm wavelength. The combination of high power picosecond fiber laser with an average power of 22.7 W and a hydrogen-filled inhibited coupling Kagome fiber allowed us to generate two Raman combs over five frequency octaves from 321 nm to 12.5 µm. These two combs are controlled by the laser pump polarization and generated an average power of 10.1 W displayed over 70 laser lines for circular pump polarization and 8.6 W over 30 lines for linear polarization. Some laser lines within these combs have been generated for the first time from high-power fiber source in the mid-infrared range. We have also demonstrated the generation of high-power line by optimizing the first vibrational Stokes at 1.8 µm with an average power of 9.3 W and a quantum efficiency of the frequency conversion stage close to 80%

These new devices with their strong buildings integration and their developments in urban zones can be subjected to severe shadows. Ln these conditions the PV field works in mismatching conditions which can lead to important power losses. Ln this context (maximizing the PV production and new requirements), this thesis explores different PV field topologies (PV generators + power electronics) to decrease the effects of shadow and increase the functionalities

Texto completo da fonteThis study presents a comparison of architectures and strategies of energy management dedicated to VAWT turbines such as Savonius. A Maximum Power Point Tracking must be implemented in order to optimize the energetic behavior. A torque or a speed control, or an indirect control of the DC bus current is possible. In the fact that the wind turbine characteristic is unknown, an operational research based on fuzzy logic is proposed. Aiming to minimize the cost of the static conversion structure, simple structures (diode bridge inverter, associated with DC-DC chopper) are analyzed and compared with a system based on a PWM Voltage Source Inverter. A test bench has been realized in the meantime as a system simulation. Comparisons of the provided energy are made for different wind speeds allowing to evaluate the performance of each structure and of the control strategies

Texto completo da fonteAvionics is intended to become more and more efficient in terms of energy saving thanks to increased efficiency of embedded system. Today, electricity is presented as the best energy vector compared to hydraulic or pneumatic. This is why current researches aim to focus on power electronic converters in order to meet the future electrical power demand in aircraft networks. This research project presents a DC/DC dual active bridge converter which is expected as the best candidate to meet the complex requirements of an aircraft environment, especially the high voltage dynamics. This persuaded us to study the structure and modulations which are explained and brought face to face with a 3,75kW demonstrator in order to validate the theoretical assumptions. Some food for thought is proposed to extend this work toward a three-port converter to interface multiple network as well as storage systems. The originality of this work is to build a new kind of active conversion system promoting break through technologies to prove it suits to aircraft specifications

Texto completo da fonteIn the last few years the question of respecting the environment became a central concern of car users. The electric cars respond to the public trend of reducing the toxic emissions of conventional cars. The success of electric cars depends on the charging of the batteries, charging done either at home or on the public domain. The charging system has to respond to the following performance criteria:-robustness to exterior constraints: network perturbations, line impedance, multiple simultaneous charging of vehicles.-a good efficiency for the power transfer between the received power and the power delivered to the battery.-respecting the power distributer constrains for network harmonic pollution. These three points impose the need for efficient control laws for the battery charger. In this context, the power converters (AC / DC - DC / DC) are key components in electrical chargers , an improved control law of these elements can provide a better level of performance for the charger. This work is a continuation of previous work that resulted in several theses with CIFRE funding, in collaboration with Renault in the context of the electric car (but not only):- From an industrial viewpoint, the doctoral student will draw on the expertise, experience and Renault's test facilities in the field of electric traction in the automotive transport.- From an academic point of view the work will benefit from the skills of the working group 'System control’ within the L2S laboratory, in the field of multi-physics modelling, design of control laws and optimization.Supervision will be provided by:- Emmanuel Godoy (Professor, HDR, advisor) and Dominique Beauvois (professor, co-director) of the academic point of view.- Pedro Kvieska (Engineer, Doctor, Ecole Centrale de Nantes) for industrial management within Renault. Objectives of the thesisThe first two years of thesis work will focus on methodological studies of dedicated control laws. During the third year the work will be focused on the implementation of the proposed architectures and control strategies by: implementing of the new control strategies as prototypes on test bench and on the transferability of the proposed control approaches.A big part of the last year will naturally be devoted to the writing of the doctoral thesis and the preparation of the defence

Texto completo da fonteRecently, the use of air transport systems has increased considerably. Therefore, the current environmental considerations are pushing to reduce their ecological impact. Projects such as Clean Sky 2 provide an answer to this problem, by proposing a reduction in CO2 emissions and noise pollution. The development of a hybrid-electric aircraft would reduce these emissions by reducing the size and weight of the systems and using more efficient electrical systems. This would reduce fuel consumption and therefore pollutant emissions. This work takes part into HASTECS Clean Sky 2 European project which aims to optimize the complete electrical chain of the hybrid aircraft integrating all aeronautical constraints such as partial discharges for electrical equipment placed in the non-pressurized zone. HASTECS project has set itself the challenge of doubling the specific power of electric machines including their cooling from 5 kW/kg to 10 kW/kg, while the power electronics, with their cooling system, would evolve from 15 kW/kg in 2025 to 25 kW/kg in 2035. To increase the specific power, the cooling system mass should be decreased either by optimizing its components which is done by the 4th work package (WP4) or by reducing power losses. Inverter losses reduction could be achieved by using small voltage rating components, by playing on modulation strategies or by using more performant semiconductors. The first option could be done by using multilevel architectures to avoid the direct series association. Unlike direct series association, the parallel one is easier to manage in terms of switches command so it was allowed in our studies. Several inverter topologies (2-, 3- and 5-level topologies) and modulation strategies (PWM, third harmonic injection, discontinuous PWM and full-wave) were compared using several semiconductors generations to choose the most performant solution in terms of efficiency and specific power. For the considered mission profile, the inverter could be sized for the maximum power point (takeoff) or the most extended flight phase (cruise). A comparative study of modulation strategies was carried out to highlight the structure and modulation presenting the best performance to minimize the losses for the chosen sizing points using most interesting topologies for the studied mission profile using two electrical motor windings configurations proposed by WP1

Texto completo da fonteThe aeronautical and terrestrial transport industries know a steady increase in the electrification of their functions. In fact, the mechanical or hydraulic actuators are gradually replaced by electric ones. The components dominating the market today seem unable to follow the trend anymore. In fact, silicon-based power components still prevail in the current market, thanks to their low cost. However, this material begins to reach its theoretical limits in terms of performance. In this context, different wide bandgap semiconductor structures are emerging to take on from silicon. The aim of this study is to assess the reliability of power transistors based on Gallium Nitride. These components are very promising for medium power applications. However, the failure mechanisms of these components are not yet sufficiently studied. The study consists in the application of aging tests combining thermal and electrical stresses. These agings are carried out under different conditions of tension and temperature. The objective of this method is, firstly, to isolate the effect of each stressor on the state of the components, and secondly, to identify the failure mechanisms activated according to the aging conditions. This work made it possible to identify the existence of different failure mechanisms that can be activated according to the aging conditions. Indeed, it has emerged that the aging temperature range used influences the predominance of activated failure mechanisms. The results challenge the adequacy of current qualification standards for Gallium Nitride components. These standards should revise upwards the aging temperatures used to cover ranges closer to the operating temperatures of this kind of components

Texto completo da fonteLn this work a novel approach to D/A conversion of RF signais is developed in the context of a transmission chain based on delta-sigma modulation, providing a very high speed 1 bit digital signal, suitable for software-defined radio (SDR). The standard chosen to demonstrate this con cep is UMTS. Digital to analogue conversion is realized here in a voltage-mode for efficiency reasons thanks to a switching Power Amplifier. ln order to provide enough power with low voltage deep-submicron technologies, a five channels differential power combiner using lumped element transmission lines has been realised in 65nm CMOS and Integrated Passive Devices (IPD) processes, both developed by ST Microelectronics. A reconfigurable semi-digital filter can be realized in the latter architecture ln order to create notches in the nearby frequency bands. Measurements are made on a full system, comprising a digital delta-sigma signal generator, a 5-path power combiner and a reconfigurable digital filtering. The 5-path power combiner allows a maximal output power for a single tone in fundamental band of 18dBm thanks to a 14dB relative power gain at 1.2GHz

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis focuses in the optimization of the efficiency of photovoltaic power conversion chain. In this way, different improvements have been proposed in the electrical architecture and its control algorithms in order to obtain high efficiency in a large rage of input power and long life-time of PV power conversion system. Using loss analysis, the benefits and drawbacks of parallel connection of power structures has been shown. This analysis has allowed the conception of a new optimized architecture constituted by parallelized power converters, called Multi-Phase Adaptive Converter (MPAC). The singularity of these power structures consists on the adaptation of the phases of the converter depending on the power production in real-time and looking for the most efficient configuration all time. In this way, the MPAC guarantees high conversion efficiency for all power ranges. Another control law is also implemented which guarantees a rotation of the phases to keep their working time uniform. Thus, the stress of the components of all the phases is kept homogenous, assuring a homogeneous aging of the phases. Since the global stress of the component is lower, the MPAC presents a longer life-time. The improvements in the power conversion stage are shown by experimental prototypes. Experimental tests have been done for global validation. Comparison with a classical power conversion stage shows the improvement in the global conversion efficiency

Texto completo da fonteGaN-based High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs) on Silicon substrate (GaN-on-Si) are promising candidates for future generations of power converters. Today, technical limitations need to be overcome in order to allow the industrial commercialization of this technology, particularly for high-voltage applications (≥ 600 V). In this frame, this work constitutes a contribution to the development of innovative GaN-on-Si devices operating above 1kV. We mainly focused on the improvement of the blocking voltage of the transistors with the realization of a local substrate removal process with the aim of suppressing the parasitic conduction phenomena between the buffer layer and the substrate. Owing to an improved technological process and innovative epitaxial structures, we observed a drastic improvement of the electrical performances of the transistor under high voltages. In particular, we have been able to demonstrate for the first time a blocking voltage above 3kV for this emerging technology. These results, well beyond the state of the art, pave the way for higher voltage operation GaN-on-Si power devices

Texto completo da fontePower amplifiers, which are essential elements of any communication system, will play a crucial role in the development of future communication systems. Today improving power amplifiers requires technological advances at the circuit device level, but one also must consider a more global approach. In particular, advances in digital processing can now correct in the early stage of the communication chain some distortions that are generated downstream in the chain. Digital pre-distortion is a correction technique for power amplifiers that has a growing interest because of its completely digital implementation and of its gains in linearity and energy consumption. This technique requires a feedback path where the analog-to-digital converter is a critical element. This component must satisfy the constraints of high resolution , wide bandwidth, and high linearity. In this thesis, we propose a new architecture of analog-to-digital converter based on bandpass Delta-Sigma modulators. This architecture takes advantage of operating bandpass modulators that are designed to work in parallel, each focusing on different frequencies, but also of a particular cascading arrangement to eliminate the useful signal, which has a high power, in order to reduce dynamics constraints. High-level design and simulations were carried out for discrete time and continuous time systems and also required the development of appropriate simulation tools

Texto completo da fonteIn this manuscript, we present the issue of phase modulations for high-power lasers (such as the Laser MegaJoule project developed in France) and their impact on different physical phenomena such as the suppression of stimulated Brillouin scattering (necessary to avoid optical damage) and optical smoothing that allows spatial homogenization of focal spots. We present the drawbacks of phase modulations, particularly the FM-to-AM conversion that is a source of unwanted intensity modulations and energy loss. We model FM-to-AM conversion depending on the origins of the spectral distorsions in high-power lasers. We study experimentally and theoretically both methods to reduce FM-to-AM conversion for a given spectral distortion: transfer function compensation and modification of the phase modulation signal to make it less sensitive to the effects of spectral distortions. For the second method, we determine the ideal shape of the phase modulation spectra and we give a way to approach it. We show the practical feasibility of this method and we experimentally assess thel improvement of the laser performance. We conclude this manuscript by giving optimized solutions for the Laser MegaJoule

Texto completo da fonteNowadays, in electric industrial trucks, two distinct power converters are used : on the one hand a speed controller and on the other hand a battery charger. The aim of the study is to use the existing components (speed controller) to realize a battery charger in order to reduce the cost and improve performances. To undertake this study, two industrial trucks have been selected : a transpallet with DC motorization and a fork lift truck with AC motorization. After a brief reminder on the technologies and standards to respect (harmonic pollution, galvanic isolation), the choice of the topology was made on the CUK converter with a galvanic isolation for the transpallet and on a P. W. M. Inverter/rectifier for the fork lift truck. A mechanical study for the two industrials trucks has allowed to conclude on the effectiveness from the regenerative braking. In order to analyse the influence of a charging current with a sinusoidal perturbation on the performances of the lead-acid battery, the electrical model has been introduced. For the transpallet, the full analyse (dimensioning, dynamical model, snubber) of the CUK converter has been done. For the fork lift truck, the induction motor is directly coupled at the main wheel and it is used like as a transformer during the charge of the battery. A dimensioning study of the motor has been presented and its interaction with the P. W. M. Inverter/rectifier has been analysed

Texto completo da fonteA power conversion chain for photovoltaic systems is based on a cell association forming a photovoltaic generator (GPV). This cell association is connected to a load by means of a static converter. Depending on the required application, the photovoltaic energy is consumed by a load, stocked or injected into the grid. Thus, the energy-production optimization is still an essential research axe and significant innovations are demanded to obtain a reliable energy source. Nowadays, these research axes are oriented to increase the energy production obtaining the maximal power on the photovoltaic module terminals. Hence, the literature proposes a large quantity of control algorithms to track constantly the MPP. However, a limited number of solutions are proposed to improve the global efficiency of the conversion chain. This dissertation is focus on the optimization of the performances of these adaptation stages. Thus, some improvements of the chain conversion are proposed. Hence, the high integration level and the improved flexibility obtained thanks to digital technologies leads our research objectives towards the digital implementation of the MPPT based on the extremum-command seeking. The conversion stage improvement is based on two structures based on present architectures used in high-power systems like parallel DC-DC converters in interleaving mode. Moreover, some intrinsic semigirator proprieties substantiate our study. On the other hand, a new architecture is also presented during this dissertation. This new system is based on the discrete model of each photovoltaic generator. Therefore, this structure seems to present the best trade-off in terms of photovoltaic energy transfer

Texto completo da fonteIn recent years, the use of electrolyzer to produce cleanly and efficiently hydrogen from renewable energy sources (e.g. wind, solar) has gained growing interest from researchers and industrial. Similarly to fuel cells, electrolyzers require power conditioning systems, such as DC/DC converters. Generally, electrolyzers need a very low DC voltage to generate hydrogen from de-ionized, pure or distilled water. For this reason, DC/DC buck converters are generally used. For electrolyzer applications, DC/DC converters must meet several challenging issues in terms of energy efficiency and output current ripple reduction. Generated high-frequency current ripples from DC/DC converter may lead to long-term degradation on electrolyzers. As a result, high-frequency current ripples can shorten the electrolyzer life span. Furthermore, the availability and reliability of DC/DC converters remain a major concern so that stand-alone power supply can guarantee a high-level of autonomy in case of electrical failures. Within the wind-H2 stand-alone power supply, DC bus is generally a high-voltage of a few hundreds of volt. Given that the electrolyzer must be supplied at a very low DC voltage, interface DC/DC converter has to present a high-conversion ratio

Texto completo da fonteThese last years, a growing interest in power electronic systems has been motivated by the emergence of distributed renewable energy resources and their interconnection with the grid. In this context, the need of low power topologies fed by a few photovoltaic modules avoiding the use of transformers opens the study of special converters and the associated control strategies ensuring stability, reliability and high efficiency. A resulted generic device known in the commercial and scientific literature as “microinverter” or “module integrated converter” performs a plug and play product together with the PV module called an “AC module”.This work is devoted to the study of a transformer-less single-phase double-stage grid-connected microinverter. The proposed topology has a non-isolated high-gain boost type DC-DC converter and a non-isolated buck type DC-AC converter connected in cascade through a DC bus. The DC-DC converter permanently extracts the maximum power of the PV module ensuring at the same time a good performance coping with power changes introduced by the change in the environmental conditions. The DC-AC stage injects the power extracted by the DC-DC stage into the grid ensuring a high level of power quality. The research efforts focus on the involved control functions based on the sliding mode control theory, which leads to a simple implementation with a comprehensive theoretical description validated through simulation and experimental results. After giving the state-of-the-art in the first chapter, the manuscript is divided into four chapters, which are dedicated to the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), the DC-DC stage and its control, the DC-AC stage and its control and the complete microinverter. A new Extremum Seeking Control (ESC) MPPT algorithm is proposed. The single-switch quadratic boost converter is studied operating as a Loss-Free-Resistor (LFR) obtaining a high DC output voltage level with a safe operation. The full-bridge converter is controlled as a Power Source Inverter (PSI) using a simple sliding-mode based tracking law, regulating the voltage of the DC bus and then ensuring a high power quality level in the grid connection. Finally, the three building blocks are merged to obtain a sliding mode controlled microinverter constituting the main result and contribution of the work

Texto completo da fonteNowadays, in our energy and environmental context, one of our major problems is the development of "clean" energy solutions. The subject of this thesis consists in the research of a new solution of thermodynamic solar energy conversion, in order to produce low power electricity (< 50 kW) adapted to cogeneration. The technology has to be simple and suitable for developing countries. The system must be able to become a challenge to the existing processes: i. E. Photovoltaïc or dish Stirling systems. A general classification of small size power system, realized from a "karyotype", allows to list the possible solutions for solar energy conversion. The system finally chosen is based on the coupling of an Ericsson engine in opened cycle with a simple parabolic trough collector. A first theoretical analysis of the energetic and exergetic performances of the system is completed by an analysis of the power plant performances during a real period of sunshine, with and without thermal storage, then for two locations, the first one in France, the other in Algeria. These analyses lead to the sizing of the system and the evaluation of the monthly and annual daily performances. Finally an experimental analysis allows to characterize the thermal transfers in the parabolic trough solar collector

Texto completo da fonteDedicated to medium voltage high power applications, the Stacked Multicell Converter was developed and validated within the LEEI at the beginning of years 2000. The first part of this manuscript consists in a comparative study of the losses, performances and costs of IGBT-based 2 and 3-level topologies. The main objective is to legitimate the use of the SMC structure for low voltage/high power applications. The second part is dedicated to the observation of the SMC flying capacitor voltages. An active control of those voltages has to be introduced to ensure a good balancing of the voltage constraint over the power switches. Three estimation methods are presented: a voltage reconstruction, a digital real time simulation of the converter combined with a voltage measure and a sliding mode observer. The aim is to reduce the number of sensors and thus the SMC industrial cost. They were validated by simulation for a 7-level SMC. The sliding mode observer is confirmed experimentally

Texto completo da fonteThe active research on materials and photovoltaic systems management of this energy are the basis of this progress. LAAS laboratory has been working for several years in this context of improvement and optimization of electrical energy produced by photovoltaic array. Much work has shown the benefit to insert an adaptation stage between the photovoltaic arrays (PV) and load in order to optimize the energy transferred. This stage, controlled by an MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking), allows to always searching the maximum power delivered by the PV module. To increase yet the energy performance of solar systems, new works were directed towards a highly distributed architecture. This approach, consisting in dividing the PV generator into several parts, helps to bring closer photovoltaic cells and thus maximize the electrical power they can produce. In this works, we have developed prototypes of micro-converters dedicated to low power photovoltaic applications. A new test bench has been built to make energy balances of different systems used over periods of one or more days of operation. These measures have enabled us to study with precision the benefit of the distributed architecture and obtain validation results showing future prospects

Texto completo da fonteRecent advances in power electronics played a major role in the progress of hybrid electric vehicles. Nowadays, power converters are being intensively used in hybrid vehicles to convert power at different levels and to drive various loads. With this intensive use of power converters in modern hybrid vehicles rises the need for efficient methods of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis to ensure the reliability, safety, and availability of the automotive electrical powertrain. Thus, this dissertation contributes to the diagnosis of faults in power converter systems. The objective is to come up with a diagnostic strategy suitable for power electronics converters and apply it to a DC/DC converter interfacing a hybrid battery/ultracapacitor energy storage system and the electric traction drive in a hybrid electric vehicle. First, a sensor fault diagnosis scheme that utilizes a bank of Kalman filters suitable for switching systems is proposed. For fault detection, a GLR test with a threshold determined using ROC curves is proposed to reduce the likelihood of false alarms and increase the probability of correct detection. Second, the existing measurements were further utilized in a model-free signal-processing scheme to detect and identify power semiconductor faults in the converter. Finally, the proposed approaches were tested on a prototype of the examined power converter
