Abstract This symposium was sponsored primarily by the Commercial Horticulture Working Group in the Extension Division of ASHS. The International Horticultural Congress provides an excellent opportunity for horticulturists, especially horticultural educators, from around the world to exchange experiences and ideas. Extension in the context of this symposium refers to the transfer of technology or the linkage from a research-based information pool to producers, processors, marketers, and consumers of horticultural commodities. Extension programs are expected to help ensure the adoption of appropriate technologies by individuals, groups, or segments of an industry. The primary goals of an extension program are to increase production, product quality, business profits, and/or the quality of life. This symposium involved uniquely qualified individuals in describing and contrasting model extension delivery systems from around the world.

The IPHS conference in Yokohama demonstrates that the history of planning is in rude health. The discipline now includes the histories of planning around the world, and scholars from many different countries are reflecting deeply on their own and each other's experiences. Planners, the institutes they work in, the evolution and transmission of their ideas and of course their application and success or failure are now considered from a multitude of regional and disciplinary perspectives. The vitality of these debates in the twenty-first-century global urban world holds much promise that historical study can contribute to understanding some of the challenges facing contemporary cities.

All around the world, partnerships among schools and other youth-serving systems are promoting more comprehensive school-based mental health services. This article describes the development of international networks for school mental health (SMH) including the International Alliance for Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Schools (INTERCAMHS) and the more recent School Mental Health International Leadership Exchange (SMHILE). In conjunction with World Conferences on Mental Health Promotion, SMHILE has held pre-conference and planning meetings and has identified five critical themes for the advancement of global SMH: 1) Cross-sector collaboration in building systems of care; 2) meaningful youth and family engagement; 3) workforce development and mental health literacy; 4) implementation of evidence-based practices; and 5) ongoing monitoring and quality assurance. In this article we provide general background on SMH in four nations, two showing strong progress (the United States and Canada), one showing moderate progress (Norway), and one beginning the work (Liberia). Following general background for each country, actions in relation to the SMHILE themes are reviewed. The article concludes with plans and ideas for future global collaboration towards advancement of the SMH field.

In September 2016, we organized a roundtable entitled “Community engaged cultural research: an emerging agenda of practice” at the 9th Midterm Conference of the ESA Research Network Sociology of the Arts in Porto, Portugal. The authors sharing their research during that session challenged us to go further and publish our experiences with society-friendly research in a variety of cultural contexts, practices, backgrounds and beliefs. By choosing the theme of “community and creative research”, this thematic issue of Conjunctions has gathered experiences from around the world (Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, Switzerland, Argentina and Cyprus) on different approaches to democratic practice using the lens of cultural participation. It feeds on the intersection of action research work performed by academics, activists, artist, theorists and citizens, who study and work within different sectors of our societies through participatory methodologies.

AbstractObjectiveOn October 10, 2020, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Supportive Care Service hosted their first-ever United States (US) World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) Celebration. The purpose of this article is to describe the US inaugural event in alignment with the broader goals of WHPCD and provide lessons learned in anticipation of the second annual conference to be held on October 5–6, 2021.MethodsDescription of the inaugural event in the context of COVID-19 and WHPCD, co-planning conference team reflection, and attendee survey responses.ResultsThe Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance initially launched WHPCD in 2005 as an annual unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. The US-based innovative virtual conference featured 23 interprofessional hospice and palliative care specialists and patient and family caregiver speakers across nine diverse sessions addressing priorities at the intersection of COVID-19, social injustice, and the global burden of serious health-related suffering. Two primary aims guided the event: community building and wisdom sharing. Nearly 270 registrants from at least 16 countries and one dozen states across the US joined the free program focused on both personal and professional development.Significance of resultsUnlike many other academic conferences and professional gatherings that were relegated to online forums due to pandemic-related restrictions, the US WHPCD Celebration was intentionally established to create a virtual coming together for collective reflection on the barriers and facilitators of palliative care delivery amid vast societal change. The goal to ensure a globally relevant and culturally inclusive agenda will continue to draw increased participation at an international level during future annual events. Finally, the transparent and respectful sharing of palliative care team experiences in the year preceding the conference established a safe environment for both individual expression and scholarly discussion.

Newborn screening for critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) is recommended for implementation in many developed countries as the standard of care. Efforts to implement this point of care screen in developing regions face unique barriers, and present important opportunities. The First Pan-African Newborn Screening Conference, held in Rabat in June 2019, incorporated a workshop dedicated specifically to identifying and discussing CCHD screening issues in the Middle East Northern Africa (MENA) region. The issues explored may be beneficial as part of the greater discussion of CCHD screening’s growing importance in developing regions around the world. Screening experts presented education and lessons learned from previous CCHD implementations, including a hands-on technical demonstration of CCHD screening. Children’s HeartLink, The Newborn Foundation, and Children’s National Hospital each presented on their experiences working with teams and pilot projects from around the world. Experience in implementation from Children’s Hospital Marrakesh was presented and highlighted some of the unique findings, challenges, and experiences of screening in Morocco. As developing regions investigate the implementation of CCHD screening using pulse oximetry either as part of research studies, pilots, regional studies, or as part of a nationally supported program, data to inform policymakers on the benefits of screening and specific needs for infrastructure development and resources are essential. This special issue contains initial lessons learned on newborn CCHD screening from a select number of developing countries, including Saudi Arabia and Morocco and regions such as Latin America.

The article poses open invitation questions directed towards young scientists. The questions result from the analysis of condition met in deep mining, both in Poland and all around the world, based on selected examples. A conference devoted to the interdisciplinary issues related to mining and geology, gathering Ph. D. students and young scholars is an ideal platform to inspire research and curiosity of new occurring phenomena but also to verify the directions of research on an ongoing basis. Each month, each year, brings new solutions supporting further research and development. The main topic of this paper is indication of technical and legal problems that need to be resolved as they may be a barrier to further mining operations. The aforementioned problems can be divided into those related directly to the exploitation, occupational safety, and environmental protection. The article illustrates the solutions and experiences from the entire world that should be considered during analysis and solution appropriately adjusted and introduced into execution. Exploitation of new “Glogow Gleboki Przemyslowy” (GGP) project is the primary task of KGHM for the next 10 years. Development plan requires an interdisciplinary approach. It needs to be based on worldwide experiences and the most recent technical and technological solutions as well as crucial analysis of think tanks bodies.

Objective:Our main objective was to use videoconferencing as a primary means to: a) assist in launching an epilepsy surgery program in Pakistan; 2) participate in case conferences on complex epilepsy patients in each country. Methods:Extensive testing using both point to point and bridged integrated service digital network (ISDN) and internet protocol (IP) connections was carried out using bandwidths of 384-768 kilobits per second (kbps). Videoconferences between sites were arranged two to three weeks in advance and connections were tested a day prior to the scheduled conference. Sharing of PowerPoint presentations, neuroimaging and video-EEG was available to all sites. Discussions centered on patients with medically refractory epilepsy. Results:Between July 2006 and June 2008, 17 sessions were booked. Five of these conferences bridged in specialists from West Virginia University. Most successful connections occurred using IP point to point calls or a bridge connecting end points through IP at 512 kbps. We conducted three surgeries for medically refractory temporal lobe epilepsy in Pakistan. At follow-up in January 2009, two patients have been seizure free and one had two breakthrough seizures after sudden unsupervised discontinuation of Levetiracetam. Conclusion:Our international tele-epilepsy collaboration has proven feasible and valuable to all participants. Our experience suggests considerable thought and preparation are needed before a teleconference to ensure its success. We provide a recipe to set-up similar telemedicine collaborations. Considerations include time zone differences, equipment type, interoperability between endpoints, connection capabilities, bandwidth availability, and backup plans for unsuccessful connections. Telemedicine can facilitate epilepsy care around the world, identifying with the concept of a “Global Health Village”.

The first International Social Pedagogy Conference took place February 22-24, 2018 in Puebla, Mexico. The conference, Social Pedagogy and Social Education: Bridging Traditions and Innovations, was hosted by Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) in partnership with the Social Pedagogy Association, ASU, REMPES, and Ceiba. The conference hosted over 350 participants from 17 countries and offered presentations in English, Spanish and Portuguese, representing a wide variety of topics which reflect many of the diverse areas encompassed by social pedagogy research and practice. In 2011, the first social pedagogy masters program in North America - a Master of Art in Social and Cultural Pedagogy - was approved by Arizona State University for the School of Social Transformation in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Within two years students in that program created a graduate organization, SCP-GO (Social and Cultural Pedagogy Graduate Organization), to connect with each other, organize events, and represent students’ needs and interests to the faculty. As the first of these graduates transitioned from University into a variety of careers and post-graduate studies, a need presented for a professional association to facilitate connections in North America between practical and theoretical pedagogues. Thus, the Social Pedagogy Association was created in 2015. The Social Pedagogy Association (SPA) brings together practitioners, academics, students and others to exchange experiences and to share knowledge and resources about social pedagogy theory, research and practice. The SPA strives to be an inclusive organization that believes in the importance of the free flow of ideas and scholars for the advancement of research, theory and educational practices. We are here to encourage scholarly interaction, collaboration, and debate from diverse intellectual perspectives and countries of origin by bringing together practitioners, academics, students and others to exchange experiences and to share knowledge and resources about social pedagogy theory, research and practice. (O’Neil, 2015) The SPA recognized a disconnect between academia and practice. While academics often engage in interdisciplinary study, and many practitioners refer to the works and successes of others in their fields, there is often a gap in communication between research and practice. As social pedagogues we bear a responsibility to ensure that gap is minimized as effectively as possible. As the academic discipline and practical application of social pedagogy expands, it is necessary that theoretical and practical pedagogues communicate and work in tandem. In 2004, prominent social pedagogue, Henry Giroux, wrote: I think too many cultural studies theorists are remiss in suggesting that pedagogy is primarily about schools and, by implication, that the intersection of cultural studies and pedagogy has little to do with theorizing the role pedagogy might play in linking learning to social change outside of traditional sites of schooling. Pedagogy is not simply about the social construction of knowledge, values, and experiences; it is also a performative practice embodied in the lived interactions among educators, audiences, texts, and institutional formations. Pedagogy, at its best, implies that learning takes place across a spectrum of social practices and settings. (Giroux, 2004, p.61) Rooted deeply in northern Europe and South America, the field of Social Pedagogy is growing and changing as it spreads and develops in the UK, Central America, and, most recently, North America. The discipline has more than 150 years of history as both an interdisciplinary academic field of inquiry and a field of practice that is situated in the intersection of three areas of human activity: education, social work, and community development (Schugurensky, 2011). Hans Thiersch defined the role of social pedagogue thus: The role of the social pedagogue is to help people to critically analyze their problems, reflecting on the social causes of the individual problems and to find options for successful everyday life. The focus is connecting help for the individual with political action in the context of social justice and well-being, while recognizing social and political resources. (Schugurensky, 2014, p. 9) It is of utmost importance that pedagogues ‘across a spectrum’ listen to one another and aid each other in this critical analysis and reflection. This need for an increase in communication was recognized by members and partners of the SPA soon after its founding. “As a critical practice, pedagogy’s role lies not only in changing how people think about themselves and their relationship to others and the world, but also is energizing students and others to engage in those struggles that further possibilities for living in a more just society.” (Giroux, 2004, p. 64) As pedagogues, we must also energize and engage one another. There is possibly no greater power than that inherent in the exchange of ideas and culture. In 2017, Jan Rothuizen and Lotte Harbo reminded us that “Bridge-building means changing society and not just working with care but also with community development, so as to address the wider and systematic aspects that affect the marginalized groups” (Rothuzian, p.18). It was with this idea of bridging connections and supporting one another that the SPA organized and planned the first International Social Pedagogy Conference which took place February 22-24, 2018 in Puebla, Mexico. The conference, Social Pedagogy and Social Education: Bridging Traditions and Innovations, was hosted by Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) in partnership with the Social Pedagogy Association, ASU, REMPES, and Ceiba. The intention of this conference was to bridge differences within the theories of academia and help to unite those theories with the experiences of field-work practitioners, an important connection that is all-too-often overlooked. The conference was held with the intention of bringing together the various studies and practices of social pedagogy and social education around the world. The conference welcomed any and all researchers and practitioners whose work falls into the realm of social or critical pedagogies and social education, to include topics such as: refugee education, cultural pedagogy, the formation/education of social educators and social workers, technology and social education, pedagogical theory, social pedagogy and social education in schools, and more. The conference hosted over 350 participants from 17 countries and offered presentations in English, Spanish and Portuguese, representing a wide variety of topics which reflect many of the diverse areas encompassed by social pedagogy research and practice. By forging initial connections between researchers and practitioners, we hope to continue to find and increase ways in which these connections can influence and impact the growth of social pedagogy and social education around the world. The hope of the SPA is that we continue to identify tension fields, share successes and challenges internationally within the field and research, and come to an understanding of social pedagogy advised and shaped by our varied cultures, experiences, and educations. The SPA will be partnering in June of 2020 with the University of Central Lancashire (CLAN) to host the second International Social Pedagogy Conference in Larnaka, Cyprus. We are excited to see the unification of ideas and knowledge and look forward to a future of partnership with pedagogues around the world.

This article provides an anthropologically derived philosophy of the nature of experience in relation to the lifeworld of virtual tourism. Framed around Martin Heidegger and Tim Ingold’s concept of dwelling, I interrogate what the implications of a virtually derived experience of tourism might be for how we understand what experience means and by extension the experience of being human-in-the-world; in effect, what it means to ‘experience’ virtual tourism. I illustrate my argument by focusing on extended reality (XR) technology within the context of three museums, since museum experiences are increasingly mediated by varying forms of XR. I am interested in what the virtual-tourism-world of a museum might reveal about the experience of being human, experience that I refer to as virtual dwelling. The museums are the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle and the Louvre, both of which are located in Paris, France, and the Kennedy Space Centre Visitor Complex in FL, USA. These examples provide a snapshot into the merging, blending or overlaying of the physical with the virtual. In other words, the inseparability of virtual, person and world. Drawing from Heidegger, I argue that the significance of technology does not lie in its instrumentality as a resource or as a means to an end. Its significance comes from its capacity to un-conceal or reveal a ‘real’ world of relations and intentions through which humans take power over reality. The nature of experience, as virtual dwelling revealed, concerns the relationship between humans and the natural world, understandings of cultural value and cultural wealth and notions of human exceptionalism. Ultimately, what technologically modified experiences of a virtual-tourism-world reveal is experience as virtual dwelling, experience of the embeddedness of being human-in-the-world.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate, characterize and quantify the learning experiences and subsequent application of research-based technologies by beef producers upon conclusion of an online extension certification program (44 Farms International Beef Cattle Academy, IBCA). Upon conclusion of the program, participants were invited to complete a structured interview. Interview transcripts (n = 4) were coded, categorized, and merged into four overarching themes: Demographics, Program Material, Outcomes, and Feedback. Within Demographics the most prevalent codes were associated with participant background, program diversity and participant description of target audience. The most frequently occurring references within the Program Material related to the “Prestige of the IBCA” (n = 64); “Courses” (n = 48); “Content and delivery” (n = 44); and “Instructors” (n = 37). The subcodes of “Nutrition” (n = 11) and “Reproduction” (n = 8) were those most frequently mentioned in “Courses”. Outcomes were an emergent theme (n = 35) in which participant discussion of development of knowledge and skills (n = 16) as well as translation of information (n = 13) were captured. Examples include unsolicited mentions of concepts presented in one or more courses (“concept presented”, n = 3; “combining courses” n = 2; “display of knowledge”, n = 3). Within Feedback main identified challenges, included “time management” (n = 7); and “English as a second language” (n = 5), while the positive aspects identified included “research experience” of instructors (n = 11); “manageability” of materials (n = 7) and the “value of international connections” (n = 7). Collectively, these results support the impact of the IBCA as an educational extension initiative for beef stakeholders around the world, and provide insight into participants, their learning experiences, and programmatic design to be used for refinement of future offerings.

This joint article draws on artistic practices that showcase how relations to nature can articulate rituals of care and reciprocity in embodied experiences and sympoesis. It discusses active approaches to practicing sympathetic interaction with Nature by challenging our habitual processes of forming connection. The paper revolves around modes of exploitation in animal experiments and the lack of emotional knowledge and connection in science, in The Touch ofSoil by Dominik Fleischmann; and advocates for attention to soil, in Palpating Landscape by celine s diaz, as ritualistic extension of inclusiveness for thelandscape. Through creative writing, theoretic reflection and the photographic medium, both unravel deep concerns for the human-centred approach of viewing and engaging with the natural world and its habitants and advocate for a broader agency, action invoked in caring. Finding overlapping questions, this paper shows two practices of responsibility as empathy and care are evermore significant in our relationship with nature. These vulnerable acts comprehenddisruptive temporalities and propose a kinder but equally relevant message: “I care”.

Is coaching different in the Middle East than in the rest of the world and, if so, do we need an indigenous coaching psychology (CP) for the region? The answer of a panel discussion at the IPCD conference in Dubai was ‘yes, and’. Several distinct differences in the coaching process emerged from the conversation. Some of these differences centred on how trust and safety are created in the regional culture. Another part contrasted regional and Western understanding of coaching itself. All members of the panel indicated the need for coaches to increase their awareness for the coachee culture and the role of cultural facets in the creation of the coaching relationship. A general outline for future directions for CP in the Middle East emerged around education of coaches and coachees, understanding their lived experiences, creating an evidence-base for the coaching in region and ways to evolve coaching research and practice. Rather than simply serving a cultural ‘niche’, such developments have the potential to enrich global CP.

This study aimed to develop instructional design in teaching the Integration by Parts in Calculus. By engaging in a Lesson Study, the researchers underwent careful planning of the design, executed it through a research lesson, noted key observations during the delivery of the lesson, and conducted a post-lesson conference. From the observations and insights during the post-conference, two themes emerged from where recommendations were drawn. The first theme pivoted on the propensity of teaching Integration by Parts as highly procedural and mechanical despite attempts at activating students’ higher-order thinking. However, the extent to which the tabular method could be advantageous should be explained to the students to clarify misconceptions about using it as a shortcut in performing Integration by Parts. The second theme revolved around how supportive classroom environment and the use of Tabular Method made the students more engaged. Nevertheless, providing learning experiences where students can be work on higher-order thinking and where they can process results of their collaboration was recommended to be incorporated in the instructional design. Generally, both Tabular and Conventional Methods play a crucial role in developing students’ mastery of this integration technique and may eventually allow them to make connections to the real world

<p>On the 20th October 2016, at the United Nations Habitat III conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, held in Quito, Ecuador, the New Urban Agenda (NUA) was adopted, providing a 20-year framework on how cities should be planned and managed to best promote sustainable urbanization globally. The document, as reported by Dr. Joan Clos, Secretary-General of the conference and Executive Director of the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), should be seen as an extension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, agreed by 193 Member States of the United Nations in September 2015.<br />After the first conference in Vancouver (1976) and the second in Istanbul (1996), the third Habitat major summit to discuss the future of cities was attended by around 36.000 people from 167 different countries.<br />We officially launched The Journal of Public Space at the Habitat III Urban Library on the 19th October 2016, during a talk with our partners from UN Habitat Public Space Programme, Laura Petrella and Cecilia Andersson, and with our supporting partner at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hendrik Tieben. The talk was very well received and was attended by more than 90 people. Interest in our new journal was high, many attendees have voiced the need of an independent, free and accessible platform to share ideas, researches, experiences and strategies to design, manage and appropriate public spaces.<br />Public space, as a topic of research, still fascinates and challenges several academics, but often bottom-up tactics by community groups are the most incredible example of how people are always passionate about their cities and their environment. What was evident in Quito, is how academia, industry and community groups would highly benefit in working together and discussing together about public spaces.</p>

The 14th Annual Graduate Student Showcase was held by the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education on April 30, 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to impact the way in which we gather and share our research. This year, we continued to meet in a hybrid synchronous/asynchronous space with our keynote speakers, presenters, and attendees. This format allowed for graduate students from around the world to share and participate. This year, our showcase theme, Exploring Horizons, speaks to looking forward, keeping our heads up, and navigating what lies beyond. Despite numerous challenges to this academic year, as a graduate student community, this research showcase demonstrated that graduate student research in education is attuned to the possibilities that might lie on or on the other side of the horizons. Exploring Horizons also represents an invitation to think and rethink differently and creatively. Currently, the field of education is in the midst of dealing with some serious challenges. Yet, when we simply glance at this showcase special issue, it is easy to see that our graduate students in education are rising to the occasion and exploring the horizons of educational research, ready to take on these challenges and to open new possibilities for imagining the future(s) of curriculum, pedagogy, teacher education, and educational philosophy and thought. This year’s theme of Exploring Horizons asks participants and attendees to visualize and imagine the unknown and all that becomes possible by thinking, creating, and imagining new ways of knowing and understanding. To all of our authors in this special issue, we want to thank you for putting your important work out into the world and for sharing it with others. Additionally, this special issue Exploring Horizons celebrates the diversity of our graduate student research in education. Beyond presentations from graduate students, we featured Dr. Cathryn van Kessel, a keynote speaker in the morning session and an associate professor for the Department of Secondary Education, as she shared her experiences with “Exploring Horizons” in knowledge dissemination and research mobilization. Dr. Jacqueline Filipek, an alumna of the Department of Elementary Education and assistant professor at The King’s University, shared valuable insights about the process for applying and interviewing for academic jobs in the afternoon session. She offered generous advice on how graduate students might prepare their application packages and think about potential interview processes in academia. On behalf of the EEGSA/SEGSA Graduate Student Research Showcase Committee, Katherine Koskie, Kimberly Edmondson, and Yina Liu, we wish to thank you for reading this special issue as you explore new horizons together with our authors. We hope you find your reading thought-provoking as you consider what is on the horizon of educational research.

Abstract Introduction Morocco is evolving at a rapid pace, akin to the Bouraq (the Moroccan high speed train)! It is heading towards a future that is certainly more promising. Social, economic, industrial, sporting, and cultural dynamics are fueling this race towards a better Morocco! This is the current sentiment among Moroccans and foreign observers witnessing Morocco's industrial and economic development. Several mega projects are underway, notably since the announcement that Morocco will co-host the 2030 Football World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal, and the King of Morocco's speech at the celebration of the Green March on November 6, 2023. This development momentum corroborates the work begun several years ago, as Morocco has embraced the global economy through free trade zones (in several regions of Morocco), industrial progress, and the development of the automotive and aeronautical sectors. The social project aims for optimum medical care for all Moroccans through the generalization of Compulsory Health Insurance (AMO) to all social strata in Morocco. But what about occupational health and safety (OSH) to accompany this progress? Do we have the necessary tools to ensure Moroccan workers can flourish and participate in this development? What are the OHS challenges for improving national indicators in this area? Does the Moroccan OHS management system (policy, strategy, etc.) have a clear vision for achieving OHS promotion objectives? All these questions, and many others, will shed light on the current state of affairs, the challenges ahead, and the recommendations that will enable us to pool the efforts of all public authorities and stakeholders to achieve the desired level of OHS. Problematics The plenary conference aims to highlight various aspects of OHS in Morocco, starting with the royal vision. It seeks inspiration from the highest level of the kingdom through speeches and orientations guiding Morocco's socio-economic aspect. The kingdom's constitution emphasizes the right of trade unions and professional representations to defend and promote the socio-economic interests of the categories they represent. It guarantees the right to security for every person and respects physical or moral integrity, which must not be compromised under any circumstances. The study of various reports and opinions issued by the kingdom's advisory bodies also serves as a foundation for our conference. Our presentation will focus on the analysis of the national profile drawn up in 2017, which includes a number of indicators but, in our opinion, does not reflect the reality of OHS in Morocco. Having ratified the C187 since 2019, Morocco is now obliged to put in place a national OHS policy. What are its orientations? What are the limits of its implementation? What national programs result from it? We will also study the various OHS bodies in Morocco and their involvement in promoting OHS. We will question the effectiveness of these bodies, the degree of their involvement, and the follow-up to actions carried out previously, particularly the occupational medicine and occupational risk prevention council, safety and health committees, etc. A SWOT analysis of the model proposed in the 2017 national OHS profile also enables us to take a critical look at its content and to see how the various topics have evolved over the last six years. This analysis forms the basis of the discussion that follows. Analytics A detailed study of different OHS systems in countries similar to Morocco, in demographic, economic, and locoregional terms, enables us to compare results across different OHS indicators. This allows Morocco to build on best practices and previous experiences. Eight percent of low-income countries have a national OHS program, and 26% have an OHS policy, compared with high-income countries where 58% have a national policy, and over 50% have an updated national program. It is through this benchmark and the results obtained from our SWOT analysis that we propose various recommendations and a vision of OHS adapted to the current socio-economic context in our country. As mentioned above, health coverage is becoming more widespread, but the rate of OHS coverage is barely keeping pace with this trend. Morocco's national profile estimates occupational health service coverage at 20%, while small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for over 95% of the economic fabric. We know empirically that it is the large and very large companies that implement effective OHS systems for their employees and annexes, while SMEs face a number of economic challenges, neglecting the basics of OHS coverage for their employees. Starting from the elements of the profile represented as a threat, such as the absence of reliable statistics on occupational accidents and diseases, we note that six years later, there is still no organization dedicated to gathering data relating to OHS statistics and capable of consolidating them to propose effective prevention strategies. Apart from the Supervisory Authority of Insurance and Social Welfare (Autorité de Contrôle des Assurances et de la Prévoyance Sociale – ACAPS), which has published some statistics, the use of which is rather timid. According to the ACAPS, 29% of VSEs claim to be covered by workplace accident insurance. Non-affiliated companies deplore the fact that they do not have sufficient income at the company level or a lack of information on the products in question. Workers' compensation insurance is compulsory for companies with more than 10 employees. Efforts should be made to ensure that all employees are covered for occupational accidents and diseases. In terms of insurance premiums, ACAPS states in its 2022 report on the insurance and reinsurance sector that occupational injury insurance has risen by 7.6% to MAD 2.5 billion. This rise could be due to an increase in the number of declarations or to a rise in the severity of injuries, necessitating an extension of the statistics to include a study of the profiles of occupational injuries. As for the number of work-related accidents reported each year, we have no usable figures apart from one for work-related accidents, which estimates them at 40,000 per year, with around 2,000 deaths reported annually. The cost would be around 20,000 MAD (€2,000) per work-related accident in direct costs! Occupational illnesses are largely ignored and rarely reported in Morocco, partly because of the cumbersome procedures that require a court hearing, and partly because the employees concerned are unfamiliar with the reporting system. As a result, statistics on this subject are virtually non-existent. Recommendations Drawing on the ILO's new strategy for its members, three pillars are needed to nurture OHS in Morocco: 1st pillar: strengthen the OHS system based on effective governance, reliable data collection, and evidence-based research, and skills development in OHS services. 2nd pillar: strengthen coordination between the various partners, improve investment in OHS and integrate OHS into policies at the national and global levels. 3rd pillar: promote the principles and values set out in the guidelines on occupational safety and health management systems, while adapting them to the Moroccan socio-economic context. We will also propose a new SWOT analysis based on the progress made in several OSH fields, as well as the transformations and threats to the economic and social fabric that Morocco faces now and in the future. We also need to seize the opportunity offered by Morocco's social and health dynamics to improve the organization of occupational medicine services on a more equitable geographical basis, according to the distribution of economic or industrial agglomerations, by offering and promoting the possibility of creating multidisciplinary occupational health centers with mutualized membership for companies. This would reduce costs for the company and provide more comprehensive care for workers' health. Also, the development of multi-party participation in all existing bodies such as the Safety and Hygiene Committee at company level, or the Occupational Medicine and Risk Prevention Council at the national level, is strongly recommended as a guarantee of continuous improvement for occupational health programs deployed across the country. Conclusion Morocco has marked a milestone on the societal level by adopting several measures to improve health coverage and generalize it to all social categories in Morocco. It is time to accompany this change and seize the opportunity to lay the foundations for a transformation in OHS in order to preserve the human capital of Moroccan workers.

The term “literacy” has been mostly applied in the context of language, mathematical and cultural abilities as a basic competency in life and social interaction. Thus, competence in reading, writing and math subjects as well as cultural training are perceived to be the definition of literacy found in many societies around the world. This article examines the concept and application of Indonesia’s “religious literacy” program as a multifaith site for mutual learning among religious communities. This program is expected to offer a mechanism to moderate the religious fervour that is currently engulfing the nation and become a buffer against radicalism. Based on collaboration between university-based academics and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the program strives to promote social justice, religious harmony and multiculturalism. The religious literacy program mainly targets the Ministry’s religious extension officers, religion teachers and representatives of various so-called “strategic groups” in six provinces in Indonesia. Findings suggest that the religious literacy program has helped the frontliners to get to know each other, share their tacit knowledge, insights and experiences, making the program into a multifaith site for mutual learning.

Jacinta, deaf from birth, chose to give birth to her own baby at home without her hearing aids. Fu-Yu assisted and took photos of the process. This is a Photo Essay about alternative possibilities to biomedical childbirth. We share our experience through this medium, as the ‘visual’ was our shared sensory perception at the time. Besides acknowledging the intersubjectivities that surfaced, we see the importance of recognising that ‘images are representations of the world filtered by the positionalities of the makers themselves, influenced by unique experiences that brought them to that point in time … Images become an extension of a way of thinking, visually connecting maker with participant along lines of thought’ (Cartwright and Crowder 2017, 515). Although Fu-Yu is the one operating the camera, Jacinta, her partner, her mother, her cat and her home ‘make the image’. Whilst Jacinta was in labour, Fu-Yu was assisting Carmen Susana (the midwife) and recording the event at the same time with a camera hanging around her neck. We want to offer the audience this shared ‘visual’ experience as an invitation to think and ‘visualise’ care and childbirth from a disability-studies perspective.

The topics covered in the Proceedings includes: Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation System, Principle and Technology of Solar Cell, Distributed Energy System Technology, Energy Conversion and Application, Green Energy Materials, etc.. All the papers, being reviewed through a double-blind review process, are original contributions to the topics and shown the research works that are doing in the field of the described theme. We had about 60 participants all around the world. The scientific program of the Conference was composed of keynote speech, oral presentation, and academic investigation. Assoc. Prof. Jing Guo from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, who has published more than 80 academic publications, over 4600 SCI citations, with an H-factor of 40 (Google Academic), made a keynote speech on Ceramic-Polymer Composites Prepared via Cold Sintering Process. Ceramicpolymer composites have attracted much attention due to the excellent combined physical and chemical properties. However, most of the ceramics are sintered at high temperatures, typically higher than 1000 °C, which are not compatible with the processing temperatures of polymers. Thus, it is challenging to integrate ceramics with polymers in a onestep sintering process. Cold sintering process proposed in 2016 provides a route for the densification of ceramics at temperatures lower than 350 °C. He discussed the recent development of cold sintered electronic materials based on ceramic-polymer composites. The brilliant speeches of each speaker provided a feast of knowledge for all the participants, allowing them to communicate with each other and get some academic advice or suggestion. An event occurred recently in the world of professional sports in North America which may have set a precedent for superstar (celebrity) retirement and celebrity/fan interaction in the future. An event occurred recently in the world of professional sports in North America which may have set a precedent for superstar (celebrity) retirement and celebrity/fan interaction in the future. The event was hockey superstar Wayne Gretzky's last National Hockey League game, played between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins (with Gretzky a member of the former), a Sunday 'matinee' contest at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City. What makes this particular event unique is that the game itself (which, if not for Gretzky's retirement, would have been of little interest, since the Rangers were long since eliminated from the playoffs) was virtually 'staged' as a component of Gretzky's retirement ceremony, and indeed resembled a television entertainment special, musical and/or theatrical program in every way. So, every facet of this, one of the last regular season games, was focussed on "The Great One", as he is known to his adoring fans. This is where the pivotal part comes: Gretzky announced his long- speculated retirement, that his last game would be this match, just several days beforehand (in most cases of note, for obvious reasons, this announcement comes after the season ends). This of course sent the media into a frenzy to prepare for what Gretzky himself referred to as a final "celebration", which would honour not only himself, but also involve in an 'intimate' setting those players, coaches, etc. (professional hockey and other sports figures alike; Mario Lemieux, former leader of the Pittsburgh team and former team-mate Mark Messier as the "greatest players he has played against and with"), celebrities from the world of music (Bryan Adams sang the Canadian national anthem) and screen (Christopher Reeve) whom Gretzky considers friends and influences in his life -- and of course his wife, actress Janet Jones, their three children, and parents. And let's not forget the devoted fans and audience, providing the necessary backdrop for it all. What was to be, then, your run-of-the-mill, pre-play-off regular season meaningless hockey game was transformed into an entertainment spectacle, complete with pre-game ceremonies of presentations by his buddies, former and present team-mates, gifts (the usual icons of North-American status excess) of a Jaguar (or Mercedes?), and a massive "high- definition" television set. The network television lead-in confirmed that this was to be "Wayne's day", with highlight reels of his 20-year career in the NHL and his earlier days on the backyard pond. These snippets were even interspersed throughout the breaks in the action during the game, along with short interviews with Wayne's friends in the audience, which by the way inevitably offered the same synopsis: "he was great for the game, but he was also great off the ice." It is this 'off the ice' congeniality/patience with the fans (and media) which has added immensely to his popularity, and has guaranteed that many "billions more will be served" at McDonald's. Perhaps what made this whole spectacle most interesting, however, was the hockey game itself, which seemed something of an afterthought lost in all the hoopla surrounding it. Colour commentator Harry Neal remarked after a period and a half or so of play that it was a "no-hitter", but stopped short of using 'boring' as an adjective. This of course was no accident given the circumstances: Gretzky was a gifted player who relied on skating and playmaking rather than hitting, and who was against fighting in the NHL -- it was obvious that the players on both teams were catering to Gretzky's wishes in honour of this, his last game. They were not going to spoil his 'party', and no-one laid a hand on him, much less each other, during the course of the action. Even Matthew Barnaby, Pittsburgh's noted 'dirty' player was uncharacteristically polite throughout. Indeed, how could they not be on their best behaviour, given that they were as much a part of the pre-game ceremonies as everyone else (the whole Pittsburgh team was seen to 'clap' their sticks against the ice in appreciation after each presentation to Gretzky). The net effect of it all was that everyone could not help but be in awe of "The Great One", who was characteristically humble and gracious throughout it all. By extension this also had the effect of making the play of the game much more 'tentative', where normally aggressive players were seen to compromise their styles in order to 'accommodate' Wayne. In a game which is normally brutally physical and sometimes downright violent (concussions are not uncommon) this particular contest was definitely out of place, more akin to an all-star game where players are careful to avoid bodychecking and injury. But unlike an all-star game because of this tentativeness, it was also low-scoring; short of capping off a 'scripted' ending with Wayne scoring the winner, it was the captain of Pittsburgh who decided the contest into overtime (which was probably appropriate lest the drama seem a little too 'given'). Playing the devil's advocate, I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if one of the opposing players had really 'had it in' for Gretzky, and realising that this was his last chance to make a little history of his own had taken the liberty to 'take Wayne out'. But then that sort of behaviour simply wouldn't have been tolerated on either side, and it was likely no coincidence that there were no grudges between these two teams (for this game at least). Closing ceremonies were appropriately tearful and long, with Wayne making repeated return appearances/encores to skate around the ice acknowledging the fans and players alike, the highlight reels again, and finally the last intimate interview and press conference. To me, the upshot of it all is this: to my knowledge, no other sports figure has demonstrated the power to 'tailor', if you will, a regularly scheduled contest such that the arena was utilised as a 'stage', with players from both teams willing 'actors', including the audience, of course, in order to provide Wayne with the type of send-off that he would (as 'director') have wished for. And what Wayne wanted was a "celebration" for everyone, hence it was no accident that his retirement announcement came before the season ended. The timing in the 'lull' between the regular season and the playoffs was also perfect. Here I believe we have a case of that 'blurring' or "slipping" between reality and fiction, or fantasy which Marshall refers to in a previous M/C article (b. 8). For what was created in fact was a 'staging', involving an altering of normal player/player and fan/player interaction, such that in the player/player interaction, the staging consisted of an oscillation between how the game is normally played in the minds of the players and an 'acted' version of this in order to accommodate "Wayne's World". The result was a rather unique version of the fastest and arguably the most dangerous of team sports -- truly, a celebrity version. In terms of the fan/player interaction, that 'oscillation' was present here as well, whereby cheering for a team inevitably was dominated by cheering for a single player (thus how the game is normally watched versus watching Wayne's game). The game itself had indeed become meaningless and was transformed into a Gretzky entertainment special; thus it was that the chant "Gretzky, Gretzky" which came up regularly, in order to spur "The Great One" on to his last goal at MSG (as it turned out, he managed an assist). The "slippage" was occurring at this level also, as fan participation reached new heights such that the collective consciousness of encouragement for Wayne provided an idyllic setting for the feature; they had become a part of the film, along with the Gretzky family in the stands, cheering him after every shift, and the distance between hero/player and audience was lessened by Gretzky's acknowledgments (something that simply wouldn't happen, at least to this degree, in a normal game). Fans always like to think that they have some influence on the players and the outcome of the game; in this case that influence was magnified as a sharing of a part of Wayne Gretzky's life. They had become a part of Wayne's movie. The 'slippage' had occurred on a grand scale. To be sure, a sporting contest is entertainment, but this event had 'slipped' into a theatrical contest for all, player and fan included. Everyone was in the picture; the normally fiercely competitive player interaction was tempered, and the fan involvement moved a notch closer to the ice surface. To conclude, I believe that these 'virtual movies' will become more commonplace as both fan/player interaction demand and player as celebrity status increase. For the player/celebrity, it's a way to go out with a 'bang' and satisfy a number of demands in one convenient package. For the fan, it's a step closer to that craved intimacy with their hero, another escape from the confines of the reality of the mundane, only closer yet to that elusive illusory ideal. Thus we will have willing 'actors' in these retirement dramas, where a sports contest is fundamentally altered to an emphasis on sentiment value, an opportunity for a collective 'feel-good' experience where everyone wins -- except for those who come to watch a good hockey game, or whatever the sports 'feature' of the future may be.
