Texto completo da fonteThe Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) process is used in the production of high-added value metals such as titanium alloys or nickel-based superalloys for the aerospace industry. The control of solidification conditions is an important industrial issue in order to process ingots of adequate chemical homogeneity and free of solidification defects. The work presented in this manuscript aims at improving the description of heat exchanges in a VAR process model (SOLAR) and at proposing a new approach for the prediction of segregated channels type solidification defects. First, the description of the heat exchanges in the model between the electrode, the ingot, the mould and the cooling circuit has been improved. These modifications were validated by comparing the numerical results with measurements from real industrial melts. An original experimental apparatus for measuring the external mould temperature adapted to industrial melts was designed. This apparatus was used during an experimental campaign on an industrial site during the remelting of a titanium alloy. The measurements obtained were compared with the numerical results from SOLAR. These two activities led to a first implementation of the side-arcing phenomenon in the model. In parallel, a multi-scale numerical approach was developed to predict the formation of segregated channels as a function of local solidification conditions. A first study on a Sn-Pb alloy was carried out and a mathematical criterion was calculated from the results. This first study shows a much lower impact of the thermal gradient on the formation of segregated channels than that generally considered in the literature

Texto completo da fonteOur research work concerns reverse innovation and its managerial and organizational features in a multinational corporation (MNC) subsidiary located in emerging markets. Unlike the traditional model, reverse innovation can occur from a developing or emerging country, and then be transferred to a developed country. Our empirical field is Brazil, an emerging country which hosts the reference R&D centers for Latin America of several global companies. The successful transfer to the global scale of an innovation coming from the subsidiary of an MNC depends on various factors and local characteristics that are explored in the thesis. The aims of this PhD dissertation are to better understand the mechanisms of reverse innovation in the context of MNCs, to advance theory and to propose a management model encouraging global innovation based on local initiatives in an emerging country. We show that practices carried out by MNC subsidiaries can have organizational, managerial and environmental implications that can account for the success of reverse innovation. Our research work implements a qualitative approach based on a multi-case study method. Our contribution is a new theoretical and functional model for reverse innovation that takes into account the elements that contribute to this phenomenon: the integration between the parent corporation and the subsidiary, the decentralization of R&D and the valorization of local skills and the insertion into the national system of innovation (SNI). Our research results highlight the existence of other types of innovation beyond technological innovation that lead to global innovation. We show that innovations at management, process or marketing level are absorbed within the parent company and disseminated to other subsidiaries on a global level

More precisely, we introduce some new non-local transmission conditions at the interfaces between subdomains to obtain an exponential rate of convergence. Theoretically, we prove the convergence of the method for both homogenous and heterogenous medium. We present various numerical results performed with a mixed hybrid finite element approximation for acoustic waves in two and three dimensions, that validate the method. Finally, we present numerical performance of parallel version of the method using multiprocessor computers

Could the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) be a tool for extractive companies to contribute to local development in host communities? My argumentation is based on the CSR projects that have been implemented in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, mainly by Total and Agip oil companies. Our work shows that the impact of CSR projects differs according to the strategy of implementation: non-participatory approaches to CSR extend the access to basic capabilities for some privileged socio-economic groups, while participatory approaches positively impact collective capabilities of the whole community, but little effect on the expansion of basic capabilities

Particular attention has been paid to hydrodynamically-induced stresses at the cell scale, with a view to characterizing and quantifying these local interactions. As a “model experiment”, Lactococcus lactis NCDO2118 has been cultivated in a CouetteBioreactor, a device generating a known and defined flow field. Under specific flow regime (Modulated Wavy Vortex Flow), the cells end up being entrapped in a polysaccharidic matrix. The phenotype of the cells has been demonstrated to be strongly affected by the flow conditions. The stress signal encountered by the cells has been characterized, through umerical simulation (Direct Numerical Simulation) and lagrangian particle tracking, and linked to the phenotypic expression. These studies provide further examples of bacterial response to local hydrodynamic conditions

Texto completo da fonteThe study of small towns and middle towns in particular has long been dominated by the functionalist analysis of urbanization leading to conclusions attesting the weak part these towns played in the organization of space. The present work seeks to study this type of towns through some of their actors. The reduction of the state's capacity of redistribution in the 80's, along with the riots which occurred in the cities, have led the state to focus on the large cities, thereby partially supplying their needs in both basic equipment and infrastructure. Small and middle towns which have indeed become the real recipients of rural depopulation have only been awarded a residual policy. The end of long migratory passages, the narrowness of demographic recruitment of small and middle towns conceal a situation where the rural migrant keeps a permanent relationship with his/her native rural background trough interfamily transfers. Small and middle towns receive more and more migrants in their outskirts. Under the pressure of an ever-growing population (precarious dwelling, irregular or the so-called "clandestine" dwelling) and under the impulse of international financial bodies (world bank, usaid, etc. ), a new regulation policy is being set. A policy that first recognizes the right of those in possession of property. It also imposes a new dimension to the social transaction. Here, the local elite is seen as the needed mediator between the state and the populations. The same could be said about the articulation of the local economy at both national and international levels and the needs for local relays able to valorize the local potentialities

Texto completo da fonteFrom a historical point of view, this thesis analyses the transformations of the local identities and their bonds with territory. Making the assumption that under the "local development" practices other forms of space occupation, different from those clarified by the public organizations, are concerned, we study in the case of the Pyrenean valleys the social, historical and territorial logics of appropriation of these political regulations. From the 1970 decade (in particular through the "Pays"), the French public authorities encouraged the rural populations to identify and to seize on their own "resources" in order to ensure the "economic development" of areas sometimes remained marginal. Locally, these territorial reconfigurations took part in the emergence of groups which, up to that point, had remained invisible in the territory. This recombining of social spaces resulted in a political and identity appropriation of the spaces of the valleys

Texto completo da fonteNew agroecological guidelines are needed around the world to develop livestock systems that are adapted to the environmental, efficient and environmentally and socially beneficial ecosystem services requirements. The question arises singularly in our Caribbean territories and this in the context of an urgent demand in meat products of quality and ofhigh patrimonial value as is the goat meat in Guadeloupe. Small ruminants, mainly grazed, are exposed to gastrointestinal nematode (NGI) infestations, which are a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The deployment of adapted and applicable techniques in the field is necessary. Therefore, methods of integrated management of parasitism are recommended among which are studied the strategies of feeding of the animals. The ability of the host animal to tolerate adverse effects (resilience) or to control infestations by NGI (resistance) should be enhanced by food supplementation. The objective of this thesis was to define supplementation strategies for growing kidneys, the physiological stage most affected by NGI and whose zootechnical performances directly affect the incarne of producers (meat production).Discussions focus on the development of targeted complementing strategies and attempt to answer questions: how to complement? (ln energy, nitrogen or both); When to complement? (Delay effects or effects during an established infestation). lt was also a question oftesting the life-size recommendations and on several variables (physiopathological responses and zootechnical responses including carcass characteristics). In this sense this work has presented a certain originality. There was no statistically significant effect on carcass quality, however, in carcassinfected animals the carcasses were more degraded, especially with a low-protein diet. The complementation contribution was combined with a series of recommendations of integrated management of parasitism (genetic pathway, famacha method) and particularly a management strategy of mixed grazing with heifers. An increase in the zootechnical results (growth and carcass), body condition score and an improvement in physiological response, hematocrit) were obtained. A decrease in the number of anthelmintic treatments is also observed. This trial addressed the operationality of complementation for a breeder. In general, this work also opened up scientific questions about the interaction nutrition * parasitism with a focus on nitrogen nutrition to disconnect from the energy suooly

Texto completo da fonteOn the 17th and 18th centuries, the complaints made by village officials to the tribunal lords on whom they depended revealed many a conflict in the heart of the community. This became all the more important when representatives of the local government (in particular judicial officials and the parish clergy) opposed their fellow citizens accusing them of violence, disrespect even insubordination. Beyond the apparent spontaneity of these reported facts, it is interesting to see whether the attitude of some particular local authority representatives did not influence the villagers into openly showing their hostility towards their agents. A systematic analysis of this kind of problem can help us determine how rivalties occurred and increased, identify the different people involved and make out the influence of relational networks ion the heart of the community. Keeping these factors in mind, we will find out whether the target of the villagers is the local government representatives themselves or whether they condemn through them, the institution or the regime they embody

Texto completo da fonteEconomics considers decentralization as a tool towards the adjustment of supply to collective goods demand. In public policies, its implementation is often justified by goals such as local preference revelation, governance promotion, or the proximity of the actors that contribute to the production of the collective goods. In this dissertation, the efficiency of decentralization is analyzed with respect to these various objectives. Theoretically, it relies on public and institutional economics studies, completed by other studies in the fields of governance theory and proximity economics. Empirically, the analyses of the dissertation rely on the dynamics of collective goods production in rural areas of Benin. Those analyses show that decentralization constitutes both a factor of proximity creation and of revelation of the local actors’ preference, in the production of collective goods. In a context of low rural mobility, proximity enables the actors to cooperate and reveal their preference in the context of this production. Through the participation of the actors to collective production, decentralization triggers the progressive emergence of local governance

Starting from this point, an analysis of actors' strategies have been done by both interviews and questionnaires. The main reason of the above mentionned difficulties is the clientelist nature of relationships between local leaders in slums and the politico-administrative system at city-level. This is very clear for gentryfication mechanisms. An alternative approach is eventually drawn, which could overcome those problems

Texto completo da fonteOne of the most important properties of phononic crystals (PCs) is their ability to prohibit the propagation of acoustic waves in specific frequency ranges called band gaps (BG). Bragg scaterring and mode hybridization are the two principal known mechanisms for BG nucleation. Recently, the interest for BG tunability has grown rapidly. This study concerns the development of a piezoelectric PC that is able to generate and control the propagation of guided Lamb waves, thus offering tunability of the band structure. A piezoelectric plate covered by ID periodic arrangement of thin electrodes is investigated. It is shown that the application of various electrical boundary conditions (EBCs) on the electrodes allows to change the effective properties of the piezoelectric plate. The dispersion of the waves is then electrically tuned and, depending on the applied EBCs, we demonstrate experimentally and numerically the possibility of opening Bragg or hydridization gaps in the subwavelength regime

Texto completo da fonteBased on fieldwork in the mountainous region of Bauges, in the Savoie, and more precisely in the Canton of Chatelard, this thesis introduces an approach to research that explores relationships to time and space, and how members of a contemporary rural community create a sense of social community. Once nearly deserted, the locality is now experiencing a revitalization due to immigration. Groups from diverse origins are living alongside one another, and, though remaining linked to networks that extend beyond the locality, they are attempting to build a community. At the same time, in projects depicting the patrimonial heritage of the area, institutions, including a regional natural Park, convey an image of the community as based on a model of federation. While these representations have been popular with tourists, the local population contests them, citing that they do not recognize themselves in these images. In contrast with the history valorized by the images of patrimonial history, which convey a territorial continuity and tend to position members of the community as spectators of a reality upon which they have little influence, the inhabitants have recourse to a memory in which they describe themselves as actively forging community. Far from copying a model available from cities, the locality is attempting to produce a community founded on experimentation, creating new modes of public space that permit members to engage directly in political life, without any intermediaries

Texto completo da fonteWhile biodiversity policies support the economic valorisation of the breeds, the local breed becomes a strong support of the territorial anchoring of the products under Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). A preliminary study confirms that, in France, the racial obligation is more and more often included in the technical rules of the animal PDO but shows the recurrence of the tensions. To what extent and under which conditions the mobilization of some breeds in PDO does induce change in the management of these breeds? We chose to consider two major kinds of conditions: the distribution of the weight of the collectives (breed vs. Product) in the decision-making, and the leeway of the individual breeders in their strategies. This choice is tested on three identified objects of research: (i) evolution of the selection goals and programs, (ii) the dynamics of the practices of herds renewal and (iii) the appropriation of the breeds by the various stakeholders. Three contrasted situations (species, seniority of the coupling, and valorisation) are retained to observe the practices of the actors, to collect their speeches as well as technical and administrative documents: cow cheeses in Northern Alps, ewe cheese in the Western Pyrenees and the pork-butchery in Corsica Island. These situations were not selected for their representativeness but for their exemplarity in the expression of the influences of the breed-PDO coupling. The work was organized in two steps : (i) the analysis of the three cases, seeking to emphasize a possible expression of the framework and reflexions by case, and (ii) a comparative analysis of these reflexions resulting from the three situations, to build a more general model in order to understand the influences of the coupling on breed management. We observed the diversity of influences when the racial criterion is associated to a limit of performances: for some, this association leads in a systematic way to a modification of the selection criteria, whereas for others, an individual management by breeding practices represents the main lever. However, breed as a mandatory criterion seems to have a rather systematic impact on the development of the breeding animals market. Increasing demand of pure breed animals can support the development of breeds, but the risk to decrease the selection pressure remains. These various elements show the possible influences of the coupling on the breed management. We raised 7 criteria allowing to define the conditions of expressions of these influences, classified according to the type of influence observed. The criteria related to the interaction between the collectives concern a direct influence: financing of the collectives, cross representations (people having responsibilities in both the breed and the PDO management), distribution breed number. 5 The criteria related to leeway of the breeders concern an indirect influence: range of values of the breeding animals, choice of the breeding animals, constitution of the herd and feeding practices. All these criteria enable us to build-up a model which, without claiming to be predictive, can help new situation to become more intelligible. Finally, we underline the concept of appropriation of the resource. Animal breeds may benefit from their appropriation by a group of people concerned by the PDO. However, some cases show the risks of monopolization of a given breed by this PDO group. We propose thus certain lines to develop a more general reflexion about conservation and valorisation of the local breeds

Texto completo da fonteThe purpose of this thesis is to analyse the impact, over the society and the economy of Argentina, between 1880 and 1914, of the massive influx of foreign capital, through the particular case of the french capital. Our approche is based on investment groups, that is, the interests coalitions who controlled the flow of unds until their employment in argentina. The composition of these groups, their strategies and interaction with others sectors of the local society and economy - the state, the elites, the other investment groups - constitue the axis of our work. After a view of the general evolution of investments, and the economic performance of both countries, france and argentina, we study the different business in which the french groups have participated, including the local and metropolitan conditions which have marked their beginnings and subsequent development. We pointed out therefore the investment strategies, styles of management and sources of profits of the french groups, contributing to discussions about the features of french capitalism, so frequently called "rentist". We also analyse the influence of investments over the local society and economy, not only their direct impact in the regional cases, but also their indirect effects over public policies and on the relations that local elites maintained with foreign investment groups previously established

Texto completo da fonteThe red suburbs are a belt of municipalities surrounding Paris that have been conquered by the Communist party from the 20's. For a long time, they have been characterized by social redistribution policies in favour of the working class, especially in the housing field. Since the 70's, the red suburbs have known intense economic and social transformation that destabilized the municipal communism. This thesis deals with the interactions between local housing policies in the red suburbs and residential strategies and territorial integration of middle classes, in a socio-spatial context where they are in minority. Since the 80's, social mix is a main objective of local housing policies in the red suburbs; those municipalities chose to diversify the housing stock, within die social housing stock, but also in developing private houses. The will to attract and stabilize middle classes contends with the necessity of offering dwellings to working classes and destitute populations. This thesis shows that communist municipalities still distinguish themselves by a strong regulation and by innovative practices in the housing policies field. The field survey with middle classes in two municipalities (Bagnolet, Saint-Denis) allows to moderate the role of economic constraints in their residential strategies : settling in the red suburbs give them opportunities to satisfy their aspirations about the dwelling but also about the residential neigbourhood Furthermore, some households show a preference for working class districts, and have a positive attitude towards social mix. In some cases this goes with personal commitment in direction of destitut populations. Some others are more reserved towards social mix, and use territorial conquest strategies, or choose to leave the red suburbs in direction of more wealthy districts. A concise description of the domain is given which enables to follow its destiny through the crises by the end of the middle-ages. Confronted with the difficulties of the time it managed to avoid the decrease of income and increase of expenses, subsequent to war, to end up in a disaster. Important payements in kind allowed the manor to palliate the payements in cash. After 1470, the situation was quickly restored and the manorial rights could be preserved almost in their totality. Highly over-populated at the beginning of the fourteenth century the die area experienced an important fall in demography; the economy emerges altered with the progress of wheat and the rise of stock farming. A great many peasants see their standard of living bettering. But the beginning of the sixteenth century is the starting point of a distortion between an archaic remaining manor and an increasing population whereas deductions are maintained in their integrality

Texto completo da fonteThis dissertation investigates the causes for the divergent experiences of political and economic development of the provinces in Argentina. Despite the important fiscal and political resources less populated provinces receive, a large group of them are increasingly less dynamic economically and more dependent on fiscal resources coming from the national government. At the same time, local elites have tended to remain in power through patronage and have surpassed the autonomy of other powers, thus stagnating – and sometimes even reversing – the democratization process started in the country three decades ago. It proposes two explanatory variables that help to explain the sub-national democratization process in Argentina: the fiscal rentierism and the geographical distribution of resources within provinces. In the first case, it is used the theoretical framework of the “resource curse” that explain the paradoxical situation of oil exporting countries. Specifically it focuses on the mechanism through which this phenomenon operates looking to specific cases in detail. In trying to explain cases that have managed to escape the “curse”, it shows that in cases in which human and economic resources are dispersed, has helped those provinces to resist the centripetal forces of fiscal rentierism

The main objective of this thesis is the analysis of configurations of the social link emerging within alternate systems of local exchange, in order to find traces of the “maussian gift”.
The investigation covers the exchange of property which is parallel to trade exchange and is locally accomplished in the context of a global world, a perspective which integrates our research within the field of economic anthropology of contemporary worlds.
The phenomenon of the globalization, coupled with advances in communication technology, allows us to observe similar processes around the world, engendered by common causes. The fieldwork, as mentioned above, was realized on two socio - culturally different sites, one in Colombia, the other one in France. These two sites were treated as a single multi-local fieldwork, and their combined information enriched our analysis.
Before proceeding to the descriptive part of the conducted ethnographic research, the document evokes theories and previous experiences which allowed us to recognize the difference between monetary experiments and multilateral trading systems or devices using a centralized accounting unit to facilitate the exchanges. The production and the consumption are stimulated by a type of exchange that is complementary to the official currency and allows multilateral transactions.
Considering the variety of alternative systems in the exchange market, a choice was necessary to determine, who would be the object of the fieldwork. The initiatives selected for direct observation were the Colombian multi-barter fairs and the French systems of local exchange (SEL).
Both monographs describe the progress of investigations in Colombia and in France, as well as the resulting reports.
It seems that, apart from the economic reason for exchanging goods and services without being subject to the use of money, which is an end in itself, those who take part in such experiences of microeconomics find a convenient environment to cultivate new social relationships.
The reasons for participating are numerous, but often aligned on common values such as trust, mutual aid, respect for the others, tolerance or solidarity, which all contribute to transform these gatherings into spaces mean to create social links favourable to the emergence of the modern gift. This theory was developed and updated by Jacques T. Godbout, Alain Caillé and the members of the Anti-Utilitarian Movement in Social Science -M.A.U.S.S.-.

This work is based on the analysis of a local knowledge system. It has been analysed the structuration of technical dialogue networks that are the support of different local thought systems. Thos thought systems correspond to various specific modalidies of agricultural production. Simultaneously, we realised a typology based on farmers capitals and another on forrage systems. Our method combined network analysis with typological analysis of farms and this allowed us to understand the functionning of those networks. In this context, this research allows to identify the limits of technicians rol in this local knowledge system. Their rol is inefficient because they only have contacts with a sub-unit of the network. This work allows us to set up a debate on a new intervention strategy for inta
