With the rapid development of economy and science and technology, we media, as a technological product in the new era, is widely used in various fields in China, and is also full of people's daily life. College students are about to enter the society to participate in work, their ideological and political will inevitably be affected in the environment of we media, so how to maintain the noble moral character of college students is the task that educators in Colleges and universities should pay attention to. This paper first expounds the concept and characteristics of we media and the challenges that we media brings to the ideological and political work in Colleges and universities, and then discusses the innovation path of Ideological and political work in Colleges and Universities under the environment of we media, and puts forward personal opinions. Under the promotion of the national fitness policy in China, higher vocational college physical education also put forward relevant requirements, which requires students to master some sports knowledge and skills, but also to pay attention to their sports consciousness. Therefore, when carrying out efficient education reform, it is necessary to create teaching content based on students' lifelong sports development to lay a good foundation for their future life. When setting teaching objectives, we need to design from a long-term plan. For example, in track and field, they should make them form a good habit of jogging after supper or running in the morning every day. In this way, students can form a good habit of exercise from school, and they will not forget to exercise after graduation. In addition, after integrating the concept of lifelong sports into the physical education reform in higher vocational colleges, we should pay attention to the problem from the students' interest and acceptance, and then to the content of education, we should consider whether the students' physical and psychological development is helpful when they exercise.

Wushu course is a basic content in physical education teaching in colleges and universities. The teaching content of Wushu course is mainly routine teaching. Because Wushu routine is composed of many individual movements, the direction, route, rhythm and body posture are complicated and different from the students’ daily activities and other sports teaching materials, many students feel that Wushu is “difficult to learn” and “forget quickly “. In order to overcome the phenomena of “difficult to teach “,” difficult to learn” and “forget quickly “, we must deeply study the teaching methods in order to improve the teaching effect of martial arts. Demonstration teaching method is the main teaching method used in Wushu teaching, and it is also one of the effective ways to improve the teaching effect of Wushu. As multimedia teaching is more and more used in teaching, demonstration teaching method also has more new teaching methods. [1] This paper analyzes the effect of martial arts teachers in the teaching process through the experimental study of three classes in the martial arts curriculum of physical education major in Dehong Teachers College. In order to study the teaching effect of different intuitive teaching methods in martial arts class.

This study analyzed the Correlation between the Air Force officers who were promoted to the high class ranks through competitive "elite-ization" among the Air Force Academy graduates and their grade point averages (GPA's) in the academy. The population of the study included the generals and colonels who graduated from the Air Force Academy. If the correlation between the high positions of the regular college/university graduates in companies and their GPA's in colleges/universities had been analyzed, the result would have no universal validity because it means the comparison between positions among different companies and GPA's among different colleges/ universities. In case of the Air Force officers, however, they go through the unified curriculum, work in the same area after being commissioned as second lieutenants, and are promoted to higher ranks through a competitive selection process. Thus, a positive correlation could conceivably be shown.

In the second half of the seventeenth century, philosophy teaching in the Scottish universities gradually moved from scholasticism to Cartesianism. Robert Forbes, regent at Marischal College and King's College, Aberdeen, was a strenuous opponent of Descartes. The analysis of the philosophy of Forbes and of his teacher Patrick Gordon sheds light on the relationship between Scottish Reformed scholasticism and the reception of Descartes in Scotland.

A unique opportunity exists to create instream water rights on national forest lands in Montana as a result of the US Forest Service Reserved Water Rights Compact between the US Forest Service (USFS) and the state of Montana, which went into law in 2007. Instream water rights on national forest lands are important because they have the potential to protect streamflows that support many vital ecosystem functions in our forests from water development pressures. Montana Trout Unlimited has an interest in advancing and accelerating this effort by providing stream recommendations to the USFS for the establishment of future water rights. The primary purposes of this paper are to offer recommendations to Montana Trout Unlimited for streams in Montana that would benefit the most from a US Forest Service instream water right and why, to develop an effective process for doing so, and to identify how Montana Trout Unlimited can help in this larger effort. Through the solicitation of stream recommendations from biologists and fisheries manager across the state and the development of a ranking worksheet to prioritize these recommendations, the final product of this research was a ranked stream list to help guide future efforts to establish USFS instream water rights. The USFS need to act on these recommendations and increase their investment in this effort before new water development pressures adjacent to national forests occur. Establishing water rights will enable the USFS to be a legal stakeholder in the water resources on national forest lands in Montana and ensure the long term health of our forests in the state.

Lidar is fast becoming one of the most widely used and accurate remote sensing tools for forest inventory. The means by which the lidar data is used to accomplish these inventories varies greatly. This study examines the use of individual tree detection and attribution to assess various forest characteristics, along with testing two alternative methods of determining canopy cover from lidar. Individual stem detection was accomplished using a local maxima algorithm. The total number of stems detected by lidar was 6% lower than field tallied stems, with regression analysis yielding an R2 of 0.59 and RMSE of 188/ha. The difference in number of lidar versus field trees also differed by density. For those plots with a density greater than 600 trees/ha, the number of stems detected by lidar was 26% lower than field measured stems. For those plots with less than 600 trees/ha, lidar detected a much larger number of small stems (< 35 cm diameter), leading to a larger estimate of tree density overall (~25% more lidar trees). Field based measures of mean and maximum height were highly correlated with the lidar data, resulting in R2 values of 0.85 and 0.89, and RMSE values of 1.6 and 1.7 respectively. Overall mean diameter and basal area were closely estimated by lidar, with both field and lidar mean diameter at 27.8 cm and total basal area at 77.3 m2 for lidar and 77.4 m2 field data. Plot-level comparisons of these 2 attributes showed some variation however. Mean for the diameter had an R2 of just 0.56 and an RMSE of 4.7 cm. For the plot level basal area, R2 was 0.57 with an RMSE of 0.8 m2/0.1 ha. Canopy cover was found to be most accurately estimated using the intensity (i.e. returned energy) of the lidar pulses and calculating the ratio of canopy intensity to total intensity. The high correlation between lidar-based estimates and field-based estimates suggests that lidar data can be effectively used to help provide complete wall-to-wall data for key forest inventory attributes.

There are many challenges associated with student retention. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) has focused on determining the factors affecting student retention across its campus and distance course delivery formats in order to improve student retention. The purpose in this study was to explore the extent to which age, course delivery, technical ability, and financial background determine retention at SMWC. Retention and attrition models of Tinto and Walleri laid the foundation of this study. Qualitative data on technical ability were collected from 69 students who responded to the survey instrument on Survey Monkey. Quantitative data on retention, age, course delivery, and financial background on students who had graduated over the past 10 years were gathered from the offices of financial aid and the registrar. For quantitative data analysis, the influences of age and financial background on student retention were examined through multiple regression; the influence of course delivery on student retention was examined through 2-tailed t tests for comparing the 2 population means. Qualitative data were analyzed through a narrative approach. The findings of quantitative data analysis were that student age and financial standing were not significant predictors of student retention and that retention for distance course delivery was significantly lower than that of online delivery. The finding for qualitative analysis was that students with higher technical ability showed higher retention across both course deliveries. The social change implications include a better understanding by SMWC's administrators and faculty of course delivery and design in order to improve student retention, thus benefitting the local economy and community by creating a more skilled and employable workforce and a stronger reputation for SMWC.

A review of litigation and appeals over timber sales on the Lolo National Forest for the years 1999 thru 2008 revealed that of the 157 timber sales that could have been appealed or litigated, 27%, representing 55% of the timber volume in all the reviewed sales, had some form of appeal or litigation.. The categories of timber sales with the highest percentage of appeals and/or litigation in relation to their representation within the population as a whole were those that were performed to improve forest health or to meet stewardship goals. The silvicultural prescription that had the highest percentage of appeals and/or litigation in relation to their representation within the population as a whole were thin from above prescriptions while the least frequent was a clear cut. This study intends to serve as a source of information about appeals and litigation on the Lolo National Forest over timber sales by discussing reasons why environmental groups litigate and appeal timber sales. Additionally, this study hopes to give individuals, the Forest Service, private interest groups, or citizen groups involved with attempting to decrease the number of timber sales appealed or litigated as well as the volume of wood appealed or litigated, a point of comparison to evaluate the effectiveness of their efforts.

This study assessed the changing mission of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces as it evolved from the institution's founding as the Army Industrial College in 1924 to its 70th anniversary in 1994. The study drew heavily from archival materials in the Special Collections of the National Defense University in Washington, DC. The problem investigated in this research was to analyze how and why the institution's mission changed over time within the context of internal and external forces and events. Based upon the historical method of research, the study identified six periods in the institution's development over seven decades: its origins in the aftermath of World War I from 1918 to 1924; its growth in the interwar years, 1924 to 1940; the institution's temporary closure and subsequent reconstitution as the Industrial College of the Armed Forces during and after World War II, from 1940 to 1947; a formative period during the Cold War from 1947 to 1962; its continuing evolution throughout the Vietnam era from 1962 to 1974; and finally the College's modern development as a joint service educational institution from 1974 to 1994. The study found that the institution has changed dramatically over much of this century, just as the world and the country's national security concerns have changed profoundly in the same period. The mission of the College has evolved from a narrow focus on training military officers in procurement and industrial mobilization to that of a graduate institution dedicated to educating a select group of promising senior military and civilian officials in the political, economic, and resource dimensions of national security. Over time, the focus has shifted from training to education, from military to national issues, from internal and external educational programs to primarily internal ones, and from a predominant interest in domestic issues to an equally strong concern for international matters. The study finds that a variety of internal and external events and forces have impelled these changes. A wide range of influential individuals and stakeholders, bureaucratic power structures, governmental agencies, special review boards, and various political, economic, military, and social considerations have influenced the mission of the College. The study also concludes that several factors have likely contributed to the institution's relatively unusual longevity as a government entity. Its dual identity as an educational institution and a government organization set apart from the mainstream bureaucracy has had a favorable influence. So too has the institution been aided by the unique service it has provided to multiple customer constituencies. In fact, the College's mission has made it unique as an institution of adult education and learning in this country and perhaps the world.

The monograph is devoted to the consideration of one of the urgent problems of political theory and practice — the revolution of freedom and dignity in Tunisia, which opened the way for deep democratic transformations in the Islamic country. This revolution has become a convincing example of new, one might say unprecedented before, opportunities for revolutionary renewal of the world within the framework of the current law and without violence, based on revolutionary legality. For the first time in the Islamic world, the possibility of a certain and sufficiently broad cooperation between revolutionary forces and representatives of the former dictatorial power in the country was shown in practice. The main force in the Tunisian Revolution was the masses of the people, who acted independently in the absence of any universally recognized leaders, political parties and movements. Finally, perhaps the highest achievement of the revolution was the adoption of a new constitution that defined the conditions for the subsequent political development of Tunisia. It is addressed to everyone who is interested in the political development of the modern world. It will be useful for postgraduates and undergraduates studying in the fields of "Political Science" and "Sociology", as well as for university and college teachers.

This chapter explores the evolution of Canadian staff colleges from their inception during the Second World War to their integration into the Canadian Forces College (CFC) in 1966. In their first years, the Canadian services largely based their own staff college curricula on their British counterparts. The Canadian Army Staff College (CASC) and the RCAF Staff College differed, however in the focus of their content. While the CASC emphasized the tactical level, the RCAF Staff College focused on the nature of air power during the Second World War stressed joint and combined operations at an operational and strategic tier, more in keeping with the model of the USAF Air University. This broader higher-level approach meant that ultimately the RCAF Staff College would serve as blueprint of the joint programme of the CFC.

Like so many Black female academics, the author's career path through the university system has been impeded by racism. Despite its claims to promote diversity, historically white higher educational institutions inevitably reflect the attitudes of the culture at large. Indeed, these universities and colleges are whiter than the American population. After years of hegemonic inequalities in job opportunities, wealth, health, housing, and education, many Black people are filtered out. The presence of full-time Black faculty members in higher education is undermined by the numbers themselves. The paucity of Black faculty in higher education makes them a smaller minority on campus than off. Even though predominately white college and university campuses are often considered bastions of liberalism, Black female academics continue to have justifiable apprehensions about professional recognition, promotion, and inclusion in the academy. The focus of this chapter, then, is to examine the systemic conditions that create, for Black women academics in particular, a path with tripwires shaped by hegemony.

This chapter analyzes the evolution of military education at the RCAF Staff College in the decade following the Second World War by stressing the multifaceted approach which relied on the three components of military power: conceptual, moral, and physical. While the former took the lion's share of RCAF military education with its extensive study on airpower, the two latter aspects were also present in the Staff College formative experience to cement an esprit de corps. By comparing the Staff College program to elements present in contemporary staff education at the Canadian Forces College, the essay underlines the roots of military education in the Canadian Forces after the Second World War.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected 91% of the educational institutions globally and forced educational institutions to shut down. The public health crisis has caused issues among international college students, particularly students of Chinese or Asian descent. This chapter focuses on how American colleges and universities responded to this public health crisis, when in-person classroom instruction suddenly became unavailable, forcing instructors and international college students to transition to online/remote learning. Also, the chapter discusses international college students' experience with online learning, and the challenges and opportunities instructors experienced with online teaching in turbulent times. The authors also offer recommendations on ways to improve online teaching and online learning for instructors and international college students.

The conditions of the golden age liberated Massachusetts State College from the forces that had restricted its development since the nineteenth century. In spurts of growth linked to demographic and political cycles, M.S.C. mushroomed from a limited-purpose college into a comprehensive university and from a single campus in Amherst into a multicampus system, with units in Worcester and Boston and a statewide president’s office. By the end of the period, UMass seemed finally to have joined its counterparts in western states as a full-fledged public university in the land grant tradition, with strong programs of graduate education and research built on a large undergraduate base and linked to public service activities of applied research and nondegree instruction. The evolutionary process remained incomplete, however, and Massachusetts was still Massachusetts. The state’s nonelite private institutions watched the public expansion nervously and organized to protect their interests. Other components of the public system, including the state colleges and a new network of community colleges, vied for support from an intensely politicized government still unsure of its role in higher education. Though the effort during the 1930s to transform Massachusetts State College into a full public university had ended in failure when the General Court shelved the enabling legislation, the university movement had gained important ground. In particular, by the end of the prewar decade, the loose coalition of students, alumni/ae, and organized labor that had kept the movement alive had stirred public interest and won support from the college’s trustees as well as its president, Hugh Potter Baker. Baker himself, with his roots in the scientific-technical traditions of land grant education, had been slow to endorse a broadened conception of his institution but once converted had become an eloquent and persistent advocate. Believing, despite his disappointment over the legislature’s inaction, that World War II would foster increased interest in higher education and create new opportunities for M.S.C., Baker used his annual reports during the war to reiterate the central arguments of the university movement: that, in comparison with other states, Massachusetts was not providing adequate support for public higher education; that demand for places at the college far exceeded enrollment capacity; that the region’s private institutions were not prepared to respond to the need; and that large numbers of Massachusetts residents were being forced to attend public universities in other states.

The U.S. Department of Labor awarded a $2.3 million grant to the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) in 2006 in response to the need for well-trained Radiation Protection Technicians (RPTs). The RPT curriculum initiative resulted from significant collaborations facilitated by MU with community colleges, nuclear power plants, professional organizations, and other nuclear industry stakeholders. The objective of the DOL project is to help increase the pool of well-qualified RPTs to enter the nuclear workforce. Our work is designed to address the nuclear industry’s well-documented, increasingly significant need for RPTs. In response to this need, MU and AmerenUE’s Callaway Nuclear Power Plant first partnered with Linn State Technical College’s Advanced Technology Center (LSTC/ATC) to initiate a two-year RPT degree program. The success of this program (enrollments have been increasing over the past four years to a Fall 2007 enrollment of 23) enabled the successful proposal to the DOL to expand this program nationwide. DOL participants include the following partners: Linn State Technical College with AmerenUE – Callaway; Central Virginia Community College with AREVA; Estrella Mountain Community College with Arizona Public Service – Palo Verde; MiraCosta Community College with Southern California Edison – San Onofre; and Hill College with Texas Utilities – Comanche Peak. The new DOL grant has allowed redevelopment of the LSTC/ATC curriculum using a web-based, scenario driven format, benchmarked against industry training standards. This curriculum will be disseminated to all partners. Integral in this curriculum is a paid, three to four month internship at a nuclear facility. Two of the six new RPT courses have been developed as of the end of 2007. Four of five partner schools are accepting students into this new program starting in the winter 2008 term. We expect that these institutions will graduate 100 new RPTs per year to help alleviate the personnel shortage in this critical area of need.

The abstract describes a research project on the importance of college decision-making for high school students, and how college reviews and reflections can help students make informed decisions. The project focuses on developing an online platform that allows students to view reviews and reflections of former and current college students, covering not only academics, but also other aspects of college life such as culture, geographical location, campus, and tuition. The project includes two experiments, one on the accuracy of a sentiment analysis model and one on the user experience of the software frontend design. The results show that the sentiment analysis model is able to accurately predict positive and negative sentiment comments, but struggles with neutral comments due to data imbalance. The user experience experiment identifies several areas for improvement in the app's UI design. Overall, the research project seeks to provide high school students with a valuable resource for making informed college decisions.

The use of games in higher education significantly benefits cognitive, motivational, affective, and sociocultural perspectives. This paper describes a mathematical challenge for first-year STEM students at the “College of Merit Camplus”, located in different cities in Italy from South to Nord, during the autumn of 2020 and 2021. Students in pairs play different puzzler games to reinforce mathematical prerequisites and basic knowledge. Due to the pandemic situation, non-digital games were forced to adjust to the remote environment. On the one hand, moving online was a challenge both from the organisational side and for the students that sometimes need to cooperate from different locations. On the other end, approaching the games remotely allowed students from colleges all around Italy to participate. The work describes and comments on each game in detail, considering the students’ performance. In general, it can be stated that students liked the playful experience, although they found themselves not wholly confident with some topics and the related time restriction. These games, first-of-all helped review and train the basic concepts; therefore, the students have a better approach to studying the first Mathematical course at the University. They found the games’ dynamics helpful in highlighting some simple tricks and common mistakes.

In spring 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to switch quickly to online learning. Before then, Hawaiʻi had been expanding its dual credit program, in which high school students could take courses that would yield both high school and college credits. These dual credit programs require partnerships between high schools and colleges. RTI International conducted a multi-method analysis to examine the effect of this COVID-19–based transition to online learning on the dual credit, analyzing data from the state longitudinal data system and conducting surveys and focus groups of the University of Hawaiʻi’s instructors, high school coordinators, and high school staff involved with program. From spring 2020 to fall 2020, students took some dual enrollment courses even though offerings and enrollment declined; offerings and enrollment rebounded by spring 2021. The percentage of course-takers earning both high school and college credit remained about the same during this transition. Examining outcomes for student and school subgroups shows that male students struggled more than female students did with enrollment during this transition, and students in rural schools had a steeper decline in the rate of earning both high school and college credits. However, both groups did begin to recover by spring 2021.

Having a good teacher is the most important school-related factor for student achievement, to the point of closing the gap between low and high-income students. However, the empirical literature is almost silent regarding teacher selection. This paper estimates a teacher selection model using recruitment data from Enseña Perú, a program that recruits top university graduates from all majors and places them in vulnerable schools. Our results suggest that candidates with volunteering experience and who finished their college degree in the top third of their class are significantly more likely to be selected into the program. Teacher recruitment policy that identifies these qualities, which might be related to leadership, high motivation, social commitment and deep content knowledge, could considerably improve the quality of the teaching force.
