A study which reported information obtained from male child molesters and from the male victims of child abuse has recently been completed. When the results of this study were released, they attracted considerable media attention. Unfortunately the media reports were often inaccurate. The page 1 headline on the South Australian edition of the Australian (Powell, 6/1/95), for example said ‘One in two molesters cites abuse by Catholics’. This is incorrect. Furthermore, the media reports tended to unduly focus on issues to do with abuse by religious authorities and they failed to provide detail about other aspects of the study. In order to correct misinformation spread by the media, we present a short description of the study.

Words not only describe and define events, but also describe and define those who use them. Recent media coverage of the rescue of an American Air Force Captain from Serb-held Northern Bosnia, and the slaughter of a family in Melbourne by a severely disturbed man used the term ‘Rambo’ for both stories. In the same newspaper, the activities of child molesters in Asia were described under the heading ‘Child love’. The importance of the words used to describe assaults on children was recognised in a recent Victorian Crime Prevention committee report.

This discussion is not intended to be a detailed analysis of the complexities and dynamics of grooming. Instead, it will focus on the evolution of the concept and the term. More than an historical narrative, however, this evolution provides valuable insight into recognizing the diverse nature of contact sex offenses against children and important differences among types of cases. In this victimization context, the term grooming generally refers to specific nonviolent techniques used by some child molesters to gain access to and control of their child victims. The techniques a child molester employs are most influenced by the relationship between the offender and the victim. Although acquaintance child molesters are sometimes violent, to avoid discovery, they tend to control their victims primarily through this seduction or grooming process. I believe the term was first used by a group of law enforcement investigators beginning in the late 1970s to describe aspects of a seduction pattern of offender behavior that was poorly understood by most professionals. The term grooming then evolved, as language does, and spread into more common usage by law enforcement, other professionals, and then by the media and laypersons. The term grooming has pretty much supplanted seduction as the term of choice for this behavior pattern. Hopefully, understanding the evolution of the concept of grooming, the diversity of cases, the need for precise and consistent definitions, and the use of nonviolent grooming techniques to access and control victims will help interveners to better respond to and evaluate cases.

Child labor is the social phenomena that not only exist in Indonesia but also in other developing countries. These children work in several sectors including in the small industrial sector. As a young generation, they also must be able to compete in the work world. Therefore, aspiration achievement is an urgent matter and must be considered by stakeholder. On the other hand, the influence of globalization is increasingly global, especially in the field of communication. Representations from this field include on the mass media. Child labor who lives in the global era is also very familiar with the mass media. The study aimed to reveal the influence of information on radio, television and family environment on aspirations achievement of child labor at the leather industry handicraft center in Wukirsari, Imogiri, Bantul. The population of this study was child workers aged 10-14 years, who worked in the leather industry handicraft centers in Wukirsari, Imogiri, Bantul and were still taking study in school, which had a total of 119 child workers. Questionnaire instruments used to obtain data of all variable. The regression analysis technique used to test the hypothesis. The results of the study showed that there was a significant positive influence on the habit to follow information from the mass media and the family environment on the aspirations of child laborers at the leather industry handicraft center in Wukirsari.

People who follow Marc Ancel's theory of criminal policy say that mass media is one way to keep people from getting into trouble. It turns out, though, that when it comes to child crimes, the media has an impact on how many crimes happen. Mass media has been shown to have an effect on children's development, so this is a good thing. A child may have a strong desire to do bad things because of pictures, readings, and movies. It's important to look at one part of social policy that deals with public mental health problems (social hygiene), both as individuals in the community and as parents and caregivers. This includes both the well-being of children and adolescents and the community as a whole.

Drawing on a social constructionist paradigm, this article critically examines mass-mediated framing of the issue of child sexual exploitation online and via mobile communications technology. The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P),1 a non-profit charity located in Winnipeg, Canada, is used as a case study of claims-making and the social construction of the social problem of child sexual exploitation online. The present study focuses on media engagement by C3P and its subsidiary CyberTip—Canada’s national internet tip line—between 2000 and 2011, just prior to CyberTip receiving legislative designation as Canada’s official reporting agency. The analysis draws on news media accounts of claims-making activities of C3P in three local and national Canadian newspapers. By focusing on the rhetoric of claims forwarded by the organization, I argue that C3P has been successful in gaining symbolic ownership of the issue and has been instrumental in defining the nature, extent, and appropriate responses to the problem of online child sexual exploitation in Canada. I conclude by considering the broader implications for criminal justice policy and practice.

Objective. Drug trafficking among adolescents is a newly recognized high-risk behavior that seems to be involving large numbers of youths. Strategies to prevent and/or alter this behavior must be developed and evaluated. In view of the high exposure of adolescents to the mass media, interventionists seeking to reduce adolescent risk behavior have increasingly employed the media in their efforts to reduce adolescent risk behaviors in general. However, not all risk behaviors may be amenable to change as a result of this approach. Therefore, before utilizing this approach to address adolescent drug trafficking, it is important to investigate previous efforts targeting related risk behaviors. Results. Mass media campaigns against the use of drugs have been common in the US and seem to have played a role in reducing consumption of both legal and illegal drugs. The most effective messages seem to focus on the risks of drug use and the social disapproval that attends use. The mass media may increase the influence of these antidrug messages by changing the social climate surrounding drug use. Conclusions. The mass media may be a particularly effective way to reach adolescents and their parents in communities in which adolescent drug trafficking is prevalent and to unite the institutions that could influence adolescents against involvement in the drug trade. However, intervention efforts must also contend with the economic incentives of the drug trade in poor, central-city communities.

Abstract Article: Interactivity of Mass Media to the Activity of the Child at School and Outside It, is an attempt to show, from one side, roles which in contemporary reality are performed by publishers, on the other to arouse awareness of defined threats of communicated contents which are exerting influence on family functioning and the education process. It also means the simultaneous effort taken in order to formulate positive, as well as pejorative influences of mass media on conducts of the child with the simultaneous suggestion for parents and carers, with regards to the conducts essential to the safety of their charges. The present time of the 21st century constitutes the standardized conglomeration saturated with the ideology of global order. Everything strives for progress and connected permanent profit as well as fast (immediate) effects of decisions and actions, forms circumstances in which media fill child’s free time which is often free of parental supervision. In consequence, contemporary childhood, appears to be the peculiar developmental period, in which mass publishers dominate and play the decisive part. Shifting the educational accent results in polarization of the social roles cause that with the consent of adults children become media helots.

Breastfeeding is essential for child survival but globally less than fifty percent of infants receive adequate breastfeeding. Gaps in breastfeeding knowledge and misinformation are widespread. Mass media aims to motivate mothers and families, encourage care-seeking, improve social norms, and counteract misleading advertising. However, the costs and coverage of mass media are not well documented. Our study provides a cost-accounting of four large-scale mass media interventions and coverage obtained through mass media. We retrospectively calculated annual costs and costs per beneficiary of mass media interventions based on expenditure records in four countries. The interventions were a part of multi-component breastfeeding strategies in Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Vietnam. Annual costs ranged from 566,366 USD in Nigeria to 1,210,286 USD in Vietnam. The number of mothers of children under two years and pregnant women ranged from 685,257 to 5,566,882, and all designated recipients reached during the life of programs ranged from 1,439,040 to 11,690,453 in Burkina Faso and Bangladesh, respectively. The cost per mother varied from USD 0.13 USD in Bangladesh to 0.85 USD in Burkina Faso. Evaluations showed that mass media interventions reached high coverage and frequent exposure. This analysis documents the financial costs and budgetary needs for implementing mass media components of large-scale breastfeeding programs. It provides annual costs, cost structures, and coverage achieved through mass media interventions in four low- and middle-income countries.

In the mass media coverage of children in conflict with the law, children's rights must be protected. Therefore journalists in producing journalistic works and mass media that disseminate information about children in conflict with the law must keep the identity of the child, both the child as the perpetrator, the child as the victim, and the child as a witness, as well as all information related to the child. In the process of producing journalistic work, a press institution has a flow of copy process which is a mechanism to ensure the fulfillment of checks and balances on the information produced. In addition, there is also a right of reply mechanism in the mass media that regulates if violations occur in journalistic work as mandated in the Press Law and Journalistic Code of Ethics. This mechanism is regulated is nothing but to guarantee the freedom of the press in carrying out the functions of the press which is essential in the life of the nation and state. With this right of reply mechanism, the press that publishes journalistic works that violate the rights of children in conflict with the law, must still be responsible without having to involve aspects of criminal law in it.

The article is devoted to the influence of media information on the formation of the younger generation. It describes the views of scientists on the problem of socialization of children in the conditions of informatization of modern society. It also analyses the possibilities of modern computer technologies in the educational process and scientific sources based on the introduction of personal computers, multimedia and the Internet, as well as the key concepts of the study “media information”, “computer technology”, “mass media”. Theoretical and practical aspects of the process of implementation of computer-based learning technologies in preschool education are covered. The article also describes the main forms of influence of media information on the formation of the younger generation. It proves that the positive potential of computer technology is to create new opportunities for child development, gaining new experience. The article substantiates that the use of computer technology in preschool education not only contributes to the acquisition of new knowledge, but also to the development of such indicators as cognitive motivation, cognitive interest, independence, initiative, curiosity, creativity. Children have the opportunity to show their individual abilities. It establishes that the existence of a modern child cannot be imagined without the media influence of television and the Internet. Today, media information is not only the main source of information about what is happening around, but also one of the most important institutions of socialization of the individual. A set of tasks has been developed to contribute to the effective education and upbringing of preschool children. The article reveals the main aspects of individual qualities of preschool children, which are formed under the influence of the mass media. Women have employed the various channels of communication that covers broadcasting, newspapers, television, radio, internet for creating awareness, to express opinions, to educate the general public and enlighten women themselves on their rights and privileges. The current state of the media as against what existed in the pre-colonial and colonial era has triggered participation of women in the development of the sector. While there are bourgeoning literatures on women generally, their role in education, home, economy, governance, agriculture, food security, child bearing and rearing, a narrower study focuses on the role of women in the development of mass media from a historical perspective, thus creating a gap in literature. To this end, this study delves into a historical appraisal of women and mass media development in the 21st century. The paper reviews existing debates on women and mass media development and goes further to assess their contributions to one another.

IntroductionChild health promotion through mass media has not been rigorously evaluated for cost-effectiveness in low-income and middle-income countries. We assessed the cost-effectiveness of a mass radio campaign on health-seeking behaviours for child survival within a trial in Burkina Faso and at national scale.MethodsWe collected provider cost data prospectively alongside a 35-month cluster randomised trial in rural Burkina Faso in 2012–2015. Out-of-pocket costs of care-seeking were estimated through a household survey. We modelled intervention effects on child survival based on increased care-seeking and estimated the intervention’s incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) in terms of the cost per disability-adjusted life year (DALY) averted versus current practice. Model uncertainty was gauged using one-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses. We projected the ICER of national-scale implementation in five sub-Saharan countries with differing media structures. All costs are in 2015 USD.ResultsThe provider cost of the campaign was $7 749 128 ($9 146 101 including household costs). The campaign broadcast radio spots 74 480 times and 4610 2-hour shows through seven local radio stations, reaching approximately 2.4 million people including 620 000 direct beneficiaries (pregnant women and children under five). It resulted in an average estimated 24% increase in care-seeking for children under five and a 7% reduction in child mortality per year. The ICER was estimated at $94 ($111 including household costs (95% CI −38 to 320)). The projected provider cost per DALY averted of a national level campaign in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Malawi, Mozambique and Niger in 2018–2020, varied between $7 in Malawi to $27 in Burundi.ConclusionThis study suggests that mass-media campaigns can be very cost-effective in improving child survival in areas with high media penetration and can potentially benefit from considerable economies of scale.Trial registration numberNCT01517230; Results.

This engineering was carried out in two steps, the first step was making the design of the growth media, and the second step was testing the mass of the ceramic body and making the growth media model. The hexagonal design was used beginning from the design concept that applies geometric shapes with many sides, making it easier to arrange the formation under the sea. Aesthetically, the hexagonal shape can represent a design concept. It resulted from integration in the design of coral reef planting media with natural marine ecosystems and can produce new experiences and impressions to attract people's attention to pay more attention to the preservation of coral reefs. The assessment of fired shrinkage, water absorption, and apparent porosity on body mass for making the growth medium model was tested on 15 test pieces. The average value of fired shrinkage on 900°C temperature fired test pieces is 1.3%, the average water absorption is 19.7%, and the apparent porosity is 32.9%. Their value could be used to make artificial coral reef growth media.

This study examines the association of living areas (slum and non-slum) with the selected public health-related variables in the presence of socioeconomic variables among married women and also having a child. A total of 150 women aged 18 to 49 are selected of which 50 women from slums and 100 women are from non-slum areas of Multan by applying the cluster and random sampling techniques. The cross-tabulation method is used to find the results. The dependent variable is Body Mass Index (BMI) and it is analyzed with the socio-economic variables such as mass media index, household characteristics and education. The findings exhibit that the BMI of the women living in the slum areas is low due to a low level of education, lack of mass media access, bad household structures, and poor or ignorant area. The women of the slum area have fewer mass media access, poor status of household characteristics and less education as compared to the women living in the non-slum areas. BMI is significantly affected by area, women's education and household characteristics except for physical work, job status, mass media access and husband education. The findings of this study suggest that to provide health facilities or to reduce the gap in public health, education, mass media access and households characteristics might be considered while making any decision related to the slum and non-slum areas.

AbstractObjectiveTo systematically review the design, implementation and effectiveness of mass media and nutrition education interventions for improving infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices and related psychosocial factors.DesignA search of PubMed, Embase and PsycINFO databases, a Google search, and a consultation with experts in the field of IYCF performed in July 2016.SettingLow- and middle-income countries, as defined by the World Bank Group.SubjectsEligible studies: included a mass media component (with or without nutrition education); conducted a pre–post evaluation (with or without a control group); assessed IYCF knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and/or practices; and were published in English between 2000 and present.ResultsEighteen unique studies were identified that examined the effect of mass media (types included: television; print; voice and/or SMS (text) messages; radio; megaphones/loudspeakers; videos; social media; songs/dramas) and nutrition education interventions on IYCF practices within thirteen countries. Of these, fifteen studies reported improvements in breast- and/or complementary feeding practices, using indicators recommended by the WHO, and six studies reported improvements in related psychosocial factors. However, little detail was provided on the use of formative research, a formal behaviour change theory and behaviour change techniques. Few studies reported both dose delivered and participants’ exposure to the intervention.ConclusionsDespite evidence of effectiveness, few common elements in the design of interventions were identified. Future research should consistently report these details to open the ‘black box’ of IYCF interventions, identify effective design components and ensure replicability.

The mass media are important for wide dissemination of health information. The frame of reference adopted in the reportage of health issues tends to influence people’s perception towards health related issues. Studies examining framing of health issues have found the me- dia wanting in their reportage of health. This study extends the frontier of framing analysis of health coverage in the media by examining framing of maternal and child healthcare (MCH) issues in Nigerian newspapers. Using the content analyses method, two categories of frames – public health frame, and coping versus alarm message frame – were examined in the study. Four national newspapers were purposively sampled over a 12-month period resulting in the analysis of 1,235 MCH-related editorial items. The study found minimal adoption of public health frame with only 12% adoption rate, and dominant adoption of coping frame over alarm frame with rare combination of both. The findings reflect the implication of greater reliance on official sources for health stories in the media, resulting in lack of context in reported stories to aid proper understanding of issues. The study calls for better framing of health related issues in the media to generate appropriate attention to possibly drive development in the health sector.

Background: Child marriage is a serious public health issue with dire implications at the individual and societal level. Almost half of all child marriages globally originate from South Asia. The aim of this study is to identify consistent factors associated with and resulting from child marriage in South Asia through a review of available evidence. Methods: This systematic review adhered to the 2015 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Six computerized bibliographic databases, namely PsycINFO, CINAHL, EMBASE, Ovid Medline, PUBMED, and Scopus were searched. Retrieved studies were exported to EndNote and screened for eligibility using pre-determined criteria. The quality of the included studies was rated using 14 quality appraisal criteria derived from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Tool. Results: A total of 520 articles were retrieved from six databases. Of these, 13 articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in this study. Factors consistently associated with child marriage in South Asia were rural residence, low level of education, poor economic background, low exposure to mass media and religion (Hindu and Muslim in particular countries). Maternal health care factors resulting from child marriage included: low utilization of antenatal care services, low institutional delivery, and low delivery assistance by a skilled birth attendant. Conclusions: Child marriage results from an interplay of economic and social forces. Therefore, to address the complex nature of child marriage, efforts targeting improvement in education, employment, exposure to health information via mass media, and gender egalitarianism are required. This systematic review was registered with PROSPERO [CRD42020190410].

Campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Health and other government collaborations will not be successful without mass media broadcasts. Hence a phenomenon occurs that there is still a lack of discussion regarding the media raises the issue of stunting in the media. Thus this study aims to find out how concerned the media is in news portals regarding child stunting issues in Indonesia. The theory which is used in this study is the theory of health communication and online reporting. This study uses a post-positivistic paradigm, a digital media content analysis method with a qualitative approach. The data collection technique captures big data regarding stunting news in the news portal during November 2022 on National Health Day. The results of the study show that the online news portal with high awareness is tribunnews.com around 528 news out of 750 news. The most widely published issue is the government's commitment to reduce the stunting rate in Indonesia and the government's campaign programs as evidence of a concrete movement to increase public awareness regarding the prevention and treatment of stunting in society. The benefits of this research are expected to further strengthen the insights of researchers both in terms of expertise and scientific competence of researchers.

Media is the principal channel of communication that structures people’s consciousness. Such influence of media is often constructed through particular framing which reaches powerful organizations and encourages them to work on different social issues like child abuse. The present study is designed to assess the trend of episodic and thematic media framing on child-abusing news and its relation with the adaptation of The Children Act along with UNICEF’s reporting principles. With media framing theory this paper executed a quantitative study through content analysis. A total of 1091 news articles were studied from two broadsheets and one tabloid newspaper within a timeline of one year. Results revealed that episodic news has a higher tendency of violating reporting principles than thematic. Incidents of sexual abuse received most of the coverage in Bangladeshi newspapers where girls were found most likely to be the victims of misrepresentation. Finally, the tabloid newspaper was found guiltier of unethical reporting than the broadsheets which established a significant connection between the tendency of principles violation and newspaper type. The paper recommended policymakers, child welfare institutes, and mass media promote children’s rights to decrease the rate of abuse cases in Bangladesh. Since the inception of the National Programme for Family Planning, messages on family planning (FP) have been promoted across India using different mass media platforms. Mass media plays an important role in disseminating important information among the masses, such as how reversible modern methods give women more reproductive choices than opting for permanent methods that limit their child-bearing capacity. Mass media can provide a continuous flow of information and motivation to deter women from discontinuing the methods they have opted for. However, very few studies have been conducted on this issue, especially using recently available data. This study particularly focuses on exposure to mass media and the use of reversible modern methods of family planning among married women in India. The data for this study was obtained from the National Family Health Survey (2015–16) on currently married women aged 15–49 years. The association of reversible modern method use with media exposure variables was examined, controlling for a set of independent variables from multiple levels—individual, district, state, and region. The findings from this study showed that television was the most important medium for disseminating information on FP among married women in India. Spatial analysis revealed that some districts in the north, parts of the northeast, and Kerala in South India lacked any television exposure. The results from the decomposition analysis showed that mass media exposure was associated with a 14% increase in the use of reversible modern methods. Results from the multilevel analyses showed that exposure to TV along with other media (AOR 1.57 95% CI 1.49–1.65) and exposure to FP messages through different media (AOR 1.22 95% CI 1.12–1.32) had a significant positive effect on the use of reversible modern methods even when various individual, district, state, and regional-level factors were controlled. The findings of this paper provide evidence supporting the use of mass media to promote and increase awareness of voluntary contraceptive use in India. An increase in mass media exposure coupled with improvement in coverage and services of the FP program can significantly increase the use of reversible modern methods in a cost-effective yet efficient manner among women in need of FP services.

Although goals of child protection policy are defined by law and the institutional implementation system is in place, the practical protection of the child is not sufficiently effective. Effective child protection is adversely affected by the so-called social (fear of children being subjected to violence) and institutional risk (high workload, excessive bureaucracy, etc.) that arise in the practical process of child protection. The purpose of this article is to investigate the experiences of the children's rights protection specialists (CRPS) during the process of the social risk management, and to characterise the context of social, political and mass media pressure on the CRPS, its impacts and solutions in the daily work of CRPS in Lithuania. Article is based on analysis data of 10 semi-structured qualitative interviews with children's rights protection specialist conducted in 2018 March-April. It has been established that controversial policy goals are being addressed in the field of child protection, which oblige CRPS to preserve a child's family and, at the same time, protect the child from domestic violence. In everyday practice, matching these goals poses many challenges. CRPS experiences a negative attitude from the public, mistrust of their work, the issue of their decisions, accusations and pressures through mass media and politicians who influence on a constant workload and stress. CRPS is confronted with extremely difficult situations in its work only rely on informal support from colleagues and individual strategies for coping with stress. Structured CRPS support tools are not implemented. As a result particularly in the context of public cases specialists remain single, accused and without support. Such work environment encourages employees to burn out, emotional overload, insensitivity, and other factors that reduce work efficiency. It is recommended to implement structural stress-strain strategies that would enable all kinds of support to specialists, help them more objectively look at situations and share decision-making responsibilities. It is very important to form socially responsible journalists, since the publication of negative and inaccurate news only undermines confidence of VTAS, undermines their professionalism, complicates the day-to-day work of child protection.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.ppaa.17.3.21954

Abstract Objectives We tested the hypothesis that mothers of infants < 2 y of age exposed to nutrition and health-focused radio and TV spots (M), interpersonal counselling (IPC), or both (M + IPC) were more likely than mothers with no exposure to media nor IPC to initiate breastfeeding in the first hour of life, breastfeed exclusively, introduce foods and liquids in addition to breastmilk at 6 mo, and feed the child a minimally acceptable diet. Methods Between 2016 and 2020, the Addressing Stunting in Tanzania Early (ASTUTE) project conducted a behavior change intervention in the Lake zone of Tanzania that reached 4.4 million individuals through radio and TV spots, 6.4 million through community health worker home visits, 411,000 through support groups, and 1.6 million through health facility-based counselling. We administered a cross-sectional survey to 5,000 households with children < 2 y beforethe intervention and 5,000 households after program activities ended. We used bivariate analyses and logistic regression to test our hypotheses. Results Mothers exposed to M, IPC, or M + IPC were no more likely than mothers with no program exposure to breastfeed early (OR M = 0.8; IPC = 0.8; MIPC = 1.1) nor exclusively (OR M = 1.0; IPC = 0.9; M + IPC = 0.6). Program exposure was not associated with timely introduction of complementary foods but children of IPC mothers were significantly more likely to achieve minimum meal frequency (OR = 1.2, 95% CI = 1.0, 1.4) and children of IPC and M + IPC mothers were significantly more likely to achieve minimum dietary diversity (OR = 1.4, 95% CI = 1.2, 1.6; OR = 1.8, 95% CI = 1.5, 2.3). They were also more likely to be fed a minimally acceptable diet (OR for IPC = 1.5 95% CI = 1.2, 1.8; OR for M + IPC = 1.5, 95% CI = 1.2, 2.0). Adjusting for maternal age, education, and wealth attenuated our results. In separate analyses, in four of ASTUTE's five regions, reductions in stunting were 34.0% to 257.4% greater than the national average. Conclusions Exposure to mass media and IPC was not associated with breastfeeding but IPC and M + IPC children were significantly more likely than children of unexposed mothers to eat a minimally acceptable diet. In this context, program planners may wish to focus on IPC as a cost-effective approach for improving complementary feeding. Funding Sources ASTUTE was funded by UKAid (contract # PO 6803).

Kata Kunci: Media Konseling,Kesehatan Ibu Dan Anak, Tunanetra, Audio BookABSTRACT The service team has developed an educational medium for KIA books with Braille letters, but it is still in very limited quantities. This media needs to be supported by audio media that can be accessed on mobile phones so that it can be optimally accessed by couples of childbearing age (PUS) visually impaired. The problem experienced by partners today is the unavailability of adequate health education media in health care facilities that can be easily accessed by people with disabilities. Although the development of maternal and child health education media in the form of child maternal health books (MCH) with Braille letters, it is still in very limited quantities because it has not been mass-produced and not all visually impaired can read Braille, especially partner groups who have visual disabilities or after adulthood and have passed school age so they have never learned to read Braille. Increase the knowledge of visually impaired mother about maternal and child health during pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium and child care. This activity refers to the 4 steps of action research, namely planning, action, observation and evaluation, as well as reflection. The media do not cover all the events and incidents of the day. There is a visible trend across the world that the process of gate keeping in the mass media outlets could be liberal with the presence of pressure groups. Though the usual trend of low media coverage on children in Nepal has been low, the spikes have been visible time and again with frequent and relentless persuasion of the cause in the form of pressure, advocacy and campaigns. Analysis of the media coverage of child-related issues from five national dailies and three prominent online news portals based on the cultivated data with qualitative and quantitative approaches demonstrate the direct relationship between the pressure and coverage. It reveals that influence over the gate keeping process would become the potential to cause wider coverage and prominence placement.

The study begins with a perilous standpoint of lovely images (female/male/child) in the mass media being regularly developed a formulaic typecasting concept of beauty. Quite a few feminine beauty myths have been grown in India during the contemporary times. The rise of cosmetic herbal advertisements portraying regressive images of womanly beauty to endorse products. Cosmetics perception of herbal integration is observed in respect to beauty myths portrayed by the media. The authors examine the structures of beauty myths of cosmetic herbals in India and their fundamental features. This is because of deep rooted androcentric dogma which portrays and objectifies the certain gender (especially women). Media vehemently disseminates much distorted concept of “beauty”. Brand changes their entire appearance with varied makeup products. There are evidently many products are available in the market which promises to bring a change in color/look/appearance altogether which is not always true but the study argues that the narratives of these cosmetic herbal products is creating an illusion. Roland Barthes's theory of mythology has been taken into consideration to understand the luxury of myth, and attributes of misleading information of media content. The study further directs to assimilate the perception of the consumers along with the semiology in depicting the beauty myth. There is a huge gap between women in reality and representative women in the mass media. It is very crucial to have a balanced perception of perceived images presented or drive by the mass media.

We identified 356 factors associated with the school shootings. Policy-level factors, including a paucity of adequate legislation controlling firearm purchase and ownership, were the most common contributing factors to school shootings. Mental illness was a commonly cited person-level factor, and access to firearms in the home and availability of large-capacity firearms were commonly cited environmental factors. Novel approaches, including root cause analyses using lay media, can identify factors contributing to mass shootings. The policy, person, and environmental factors associated with these school shootings should be addressed as part of a multipronged effort to prevent future mass shootings.

Eleven-year-old girl presented with visual disturbance, diabetes insipidus and hypothyroidism. The lesion in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was established as a large suprasellar mass stretching the optic chiasm and pituitary stalk. The lesion showed intense contrast enhancement by intravenous administration of a contrast media. MRI examination of whole spine with contrast showed no pathology. Tumor markers such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and human chorionic gonadotrophin (BHCG) in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid were at normal range. Paranasal or bone invasion and spread of subarachnoid space were not detected. Total resection of the lesion was successfully achieved. Histopathological examination revealed germinoma. After surgery, the patient was treated with the combined approach of adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The information leap in demand for online products during the global pandemic has formed an aggregate, integrated part of the world’s media system on the scale of the Internet’s unified information space. Their sustainable development is a necessary element of media development in general. This study shows the upwardly steady tendencies of blogosphere development as a relatively new mass media trend. The article deals with the typology of blogs and reveals the regularities of their integration into the culture of modern mass media and Internet users. Blogs are an aggregate of various elements: artistic, graphic and illustrative; they have different forms of presentation and perform specific functions. As a body of information they complement each other. The system of elements is arbitrary and inconstant, but it is the way they are organized on a given site that determines the features that are striking immediately upon reading the blog materials. Each element performs a well-defined function, “working” towards the goal, the intended totality, as shown in the article.

Abstract Introduction. Breastfeeding is the optimal method of nourishing newborns and infants, as provided in guidelines and recommendations issued by both maternal and child health organizations and associations. For this reason, breastfeeding should be promoted and supported through educating the population. Various media outlets (television, radio, the Internet, press) have become an integral part of people’s daily life and an important source of information on health. Aim. The present study aimed at determining the role of the mass media in the promotion of breastfeeding. Material and methods. The study was conducted between January and April 2015 on 262 women. The study used a diagnostic survey with questionnaires. The researchers used a self-designed questionnaire. The software used for databases and statistical analysis was STATISTICA 9.1 (StatSoft, Poland). Results. A statistical analysis has shown that married women (p=0.00168), women with higher education (p=0.04007), women who had their own businesses (p=0.04482) and those who had given birth to one child (p=0.00093) stated that information on breastfeeding was available in the media. The women surveyed pointed to the media (56.13%) as the source of information on breastfeeding, while the Internet (82.07%) was the most popular medium used by the respondents to look for information on breastfeeding. The participants believed that the media should focus on promoting the benefits of breastfeeding for the child (94.27%). Conclusions. The media are the most popular source of information on breastfeeding. The media should promote breastfeeding mainly through providing information on the benefits for the child.
