Many have been involved with broadcast television, and others will be, and most have been involved with video production either at home or work. As a powerful educational and motivational tool for teaching, research and extension, it deserves more and improved use. Opportunities will be discussed for broadcast television, with a short video presentation of examples, including regular shows, periodic features or interviews, “live” call-ins, or tips using video or slides. Video production will be covered in more depth including general tips, technical aspects such as formats and equipment, and artistic aspects which make the difference between just filming and producing a quality production. Covered will be basics of lighting, audio, camera use, and editing--the real key to a professional quality production.

Although horticulture lends itself to videotaped instruction, I effectively used audiotaped “how to” pieces recorded via a television camera to enhance the educational impact of a live, call-in radio program. This monthly program (SCETV-Radio [91.3 WLTR FM]), which had an audience of 14,000 listeners in South Carolina and parts of North Carolina and Georgia, allowed me to educate listeners about horticulture and to respond to their gardening questions. In each hour-long program I included a 3- to 4-minute in-the-field segment of a specific horticultural practice, such as plant selection, soil preparation, planting, or pruning. In the absence of visuals, I relied on descriptive dialogue and in-the-field sounds to enhance the presentation, thereby enabling listeners to visualize the activity. A broadcast quality beta-cam television camera used to videotape horticultural pieces for television broadcasts (Extension videotapes, C.U.E. Magazine, and Making It Grow!) doubled as a recorder for radio. Using the television camera for video- and audiotaping maximized personnel time and equipment, in addition to improving the quality and content of the radio program.

In this article, I explain a new media ecology for online television in which the online audience or fans and their participation play a stronger role in swaying the online video content or production. I call it fandomization of online television. Dependent on the number of online users and the viewership, online television platforms have to produce programs that align with the fans’ discourse and emotions to maximize their viewership. This results in a fan-discourse-led production, as in the case of China’s huge online video or television market. Based on my study of the top online television production company, Tencent Video, and its top television program, as well as ethnographic observations of their productions, I illustrate how Tencent Video manages fans by establishing a fan-based platform that works in tandem with its television platform. The dual television and fan-based platform of the television industry forms an interlocking web of the network of fans, their idols, and social media, with the consequences that social and political public discourse are highly synchronized in China’s extremely controlled Internet.

“Backyard Farmer” is a Cooperative Extension (CE) television program that airs one night a week on the Nebraska Educational Television Network (ETV). “Backyard Farmer” is a one-hour program which airs throughout the lawn and gardening season from approximately April 1 to September 1 each year. This program combines a live call-in format, along with mailin questions and samples to be answered by the panel. In addition they discuss timely topics which are illustrated by videotapes and live demonstrations. The panelists are specialists in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology and agronomy (weed science). Slightly over two-thirds of the Nebraska households (69%) were familiar with “Backyard Farmer”. Backyard Farmer has been watched in 49% of Nebraska households. Thus Backyard Farmer is viewed in approximately 270,000 households. Viewers are more likely than non-viewers to have sought advice from Cooperative Extension in the past two years. Although the total number of viewers in the urban area was higher than in the rural area, there was a higher proportion of viewers in the rural area. Nearly half of the “Backyard Farmer” viewing audience (47%) was under age 45.

This study aims to investigate how television talk shows are politically employed, especially in times of political conflict between Qatar on one side and Saudi Arabia on the other. Its focus is on AlLewan program that was broadcast on Rotana Khalejia channel during Ramadan 2019. The program includes 29 episodes. The study finds that Alshawa [the awakening] Movement, Qatar, the Saudi opposition, and the Muslim Brotherhood are the top issues addressed in the program. Main actors of the discourse in the program include Osama bin Laden, Saudi opposed Saad Al-Faqih and Mohammed Almasa’ari, and the Saudi crown prince. The most emotionally loaded words and phrases are used to construct a call for facing the state, to ascertain the domination of Allah, and to impose awakening guardianship on the society. The program uses a number of communication strategies and techniques, including communication process strategy, confrontation and accusation, and the showing of clips from previous videos. The program applies several argumentative tools related to the Alshawa, Muslim Brotherhood, Qatar, Islamic cassette tape, the Saudi Crown Prince. These tools include the narrative technique, the use of historical narratives, citations from Qur'anic verses as well as hadiths and prophetic biography.

The process of deteriorating television should indeed be done by an expert who is a television expert himself, but because television is a tool that is no longer common for people to know him, many people also have television in their respective homes. Even for television repairs, it is quite expensive, so some people who have televisions can do television maintenance at home. The lack of knowledge possessed by the community can lead to wrong handling of television maintenance / maintenance and this has a fatal impact. Hopefully the existence of this system can help the community in diagnosing the damage to their televisions. In that case they need not bother to call for repairmen or bring in a television repair shop. Here the authors provide solutions to solve the problems that often arise on television. In this study, it discusses how to care for television officers. The research objective is to analyze a desktop-based expert system program that contains the knowledge of an expert / doctor whose truth is believed to have the ability to be able to diagnose the disease from the symptoms of damage that has been damaged by television damage quickly and precisely. The stages of research carried out in this study include literature study, data collection, system design, system creation, system testing. Case Based Reasoning is a method used to build a knowledge-based system. The source of system knowledge is obtained by collecting the handling of cases by an expert / expert. Therefore, many problems in television damage are usually due to the negligence of the television owner himself. The first step in solving a problem is by first identifying the scope of the problem to be resolved, this also applies to any Artificial Intelligence (AI) programming. The results obtained in the study for the diagnosis of conjunctivitis were the value of old cases and new cases which obtained a high weight value, namely 1 from the third case

Grit is the capacity to persevere, to have passion, and be committed to achieve goals long-term regardless of adversity or challenge. Grit provides an insight into why some nursing students succeed academically or clinically, while others do not. This quantitative cross-sectional correlational study measured levels of grit among nursing students undertaking a three-year bachelor’s degree program. All students (n = 2349) within the program were invited to complete a questionnaire which included the short grit scale (Grit-S) which measured each student’s level of perseverance and passion. Overall, it was highlighted that increased levels of grit correlated with an increase in the student’s year of study, greater perceived clinical and academic performance, not using television as a motivator for entry to nursing, being lower on the socio-economic spectrum, and being older in age. Grit was found to develop exponentially as students entered second and third years, suggesting that a balance of constant academic and clinical challenge was an impetus for many to achieve in the face of adversity, and is reminiscent of the journey of the koi fish. This paper culminates in a call for educators to consider the inclusion of creative grit forming challenges that focus on developing a student’s sense of open-mindedness within first year of undergraduate nursing programs.

One of mass media''s respinsibility is to being a public spacein which everybody could express his opinion. But few people answer the questionhow to proceed discussions among people who holds different views. Habermasis one of the exception. He proposed a normative definition for a public forum by the theory of communicative action. Based on the theory of communicative action, the study inspects the discourse of a journalistic call-in television program, which are getting more and more poppular and influential. This is an case study. An episode of the "2100 people speak" is recorded. Researcher analyzed the discourse of the text based on the" Universal Pragmatics" of the communicative action theory. During the guest disussing time, the discourse did achieve thelevel of metatheroretical discourse, but soon ended. And during the call-intime, callers just exressed their own opinion and seldom criticized or questioned others'' words. The possible reasons maybe as followed:1.The hostdidn''t play an intermediator well. 2. The guest speaker failed to answer thehost''s question.3. The guest speaker failed to clear his own opinion whenbeing misunderstood. 4. Time for callers was limited.

Abstract I first heard about the man I will call “Michael” when I received a telephone call from a rehabilitation therapist at the Institute for the Blind. She asked for my help in rethinking Michael’s rehabilitation program because, as she said, “Something incredible has happened to him and he seems to be getting his sight back, but he still can’t see!” She went on to explain that Michael had been classified as totally blind since a head injury nearly 2 years previously, but he had recently begun to see lights at night and movement on the television. She had been trying to improve his sight by showing him various common objects day after day, but he seemed unable to recognize the objects unless he picked them up. Often he would describe the shape of the object in a slow, disjointed manner, but only rarely did this seem to help him recognize the object. At first, she said, he could not read, but practice had brought improvement, and now he could read slowly but quite well.
