Texto completo da fonteSeveral models emphasize the importance of motivation and volition for promoting behavior change. The original aim of this thesis is to combine some motivational and/or volitional strategies to identify the generated mechanisms and potential moderators, and ultimately to determine how to maximize their effectiveness. Five strategies are considered: mental contrasting, motivational self-determination support, hierarchical goal framing (motivational strategies), approach-avoidance training, and implementation intentions (volitional strategies). The research program is divided into three axes. Axis 1 examines the hypothesis that a difficult and stressful task (Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test - Computerized) is better performed, and generates more self-determination (Intrinsic Motivation Inventory) when the goal is framed hierarchically (focus on commitment) or mixed hierarchically-conditionally (focus on commitment and outcome), than conditionally (focus on outcome). The results of frequentist analyses of data from 167 students (Mage = 23.3, SD = 3.7; 54.49% female) do not support the hypothesis. The potential role of the mismatch between spontaneous and assigned goal framing, as well as other motivational factors, is discussed. Axis 2 focuses on the interest of combining approach-avoidance training and implementation intentions to help patients with alcohol use disorders changing an automatic tendency to approach alcohol. Variants of the Approach-Avoidance Task were performed in three conditions: standard training and training with implementation intentions involved systematic avoidance of alcohol, with only the instructions differing (“I move away from alcohol” vs. “If I see alcohol, then I move away from it”); the control condition involves approaching and avoiding alcohol equally. The hypothesis is that training with implementation intentions, and to a lesser extent standard training (vs. control condition), helps to change: approach-avoidance tendencies (Approach-Avoidance Task) at post-test, and alcohol consumption (Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test - Consumption), dependence (Short Alcohol Dependence Data questionnaire), and biopsychosocial repercussions (Short Inventory of Problems - Revised) at 2-month follow-up. We have validated and published the dependence and repercussions questionnaires in French. In August 2024, 75 patients with alcohol use disorders were recruited (Mage = 47.5, SD = 11.6; 73.33% male); data collection is currently ongoing. Preliminary results from Bayesian analyses provide initial evidence suggesting that training is effective, but that the implementation intentions has no added value. Explanations in terms of the characteristics of the implementation intentions used and the dynamics of change are put forward. A confirmatory report focusing on this study has been accepted by the International Review of Social Psychology. Axis 3 examined the hypothesis of an effectiveness of mental contrast and implementation intentions (vs. control condition) in promoting physical activity (Godin Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire) at 1-month follow-up, and its enhancement by combining them together. It was also hypothesized that mental contrast would act primarily on engagement, while implementation intentions would act primarily on behavioral automaticity (Self-Report Behavioral Automaticity Index). Six hundred insufficiently active adults will be recruited. The results of Bayesian analyses are likely to provide evidence on the effectiveness of the strategies and how they work. A confirmatory report focusing on this study has been accepted by the International Review of Social Psychology

Texto completo da fonteAdaptive discretizations are important in compressible/incompressible flow problems since it is often necessary to resolve details on multiple levels, allowing large regions of space to be modeled using a reduced number of degrees of freedom (reducing the computational time). There are a wide variety of methods for adaptively discretizing space, but Cartesian grids have often outperformed them even at high resolutions due totheir simple and accurate numerical stencils and their superior parallel performances.Such performance and simplicity are in general obtained applying afinite-difference scheme for the resolution of the problems involved, but this discretization approach does not present, by contrast, an easy adapting path.In a finite-volume scheme, instead, we can incorporate different types of grids, more suitable for adaptive refinements, increasing the complexity on thestencils and getting a greater flexibility. The Laplace operator is an essential building block of the Navier-Stokes equations, a model that governs fluid flows, but it occurs also in differential equations that describe many other physical phenomena, such as electric and gravitational potentials, and quantum mechanics. So, it is a very importantdifferential operator, and all the studies carried out on it, prove itsrelevance. In this work will be presented 2D finite-difference and finite-volume approaches to solve the Laplacian operator, applying patches of overlapping grids where amore fined level is needed, leaving coarser meshes in the rest of the computational domain. These overlapping grids will have generic quadrilateral shapes.Specifically, the topics covered will be:1) introduction to the finite difference method, finite volume method, domainpartitioning, solution approximation;2) overview of different types of meshes to represent in a discrete way thegeometry involved in a problem, with a focuson the octree data structure, presenting PABLO and PABLitO. The first one is anexternal library used to manage each single grid’s creation, load balancing and internal communications, while the second one is the Python API ofthat library written ad hoc for the current project;3) presentation of the algorithm used to communicate data between meshes (beingall of them unaware of each other’s existence) using MPI inter-communicators and clarification of the monolithic approach applied building the finalmatrix for the system to solve, taking into account diagonal, restriction and prolongation blocks;4) presentation of some results; conclusions, references. It is important to underline that everything is done under Python as programmingframework, using Cython for the writing of PABLitO, MPI4Py for the communications between grids, PETSc4py for the assembling and resolution partsof the system of unknowns, NumPy for contiguous memory buffer objects. The choice of this programming language has been made because Python, easy to learn and understand, is today a significant contender for the numerical computing and HPC ecosystem, thanks to its clean style, its packages, its compilers and, why not, its specific architecture optimized versions

Texto completo da fonteLn this report, a problem of postal addresses fusion is tackled. One characteristic of this problem is the hierarchical organisation of the decisions, each postal address reader being able to provide a decision at every level of the hierarchy. Several models are built within the framework of belief functions theory. Methods for building belief functions based on confusion matrices and the aforementioned hierarchy is exposed, as well as a decision-making method. This method allows an adjustment of the combination to the recognition and error rates awaited by the user. These models show convincing performances. On the theoretical level, new tools for the handling of belief functions are developed. Ln comparison with existing tools, the ones we propose improve the exploitation of information on the reliability of the sources to be combined. Contextual discounting allows the context dependence of the reliability to be taken into account. By the use of general correction mechanisms, various states of reliability can be modelled, which makes it possible to develop strategies of correction other than a weakening

Texto completo da fonteModeling is a major tool in ecology to describe and understand ecosystems or predict their response. We here focused our attention on non-linear sigmoidal models in macroecology, in order to better define them, understand their limitations and suggest improvements. We first studied them in hierarchical Bayesian biodiversity models. We found that taking into account random variations of different parameters of sigmoidal functions has an impact on the estimation of the effects. We then turned our attention to binary binomial generalized linear models for which we compared the classical logistic function to other sigmoidal functions whose asymptotes were estimated. We found strong estimation errors induced by the use of the classical logistic function if the data are not consistent with this model. Finally, we applied these logistic functions with estimated asymptotes in the context of hierarchical joint species occurrence models, thanks to which we were able to demonstrate the usefulness of considering the estimation of asymptotes. However, the unstable results did not allow us to develop ecological conclusions. Throughout, we have used varioustools to better apprehend model evaluation and proposed that they should be used jointly. In conclusion, we have developed new forms of non-linear sigmoidal statistical models, which are new tools for the ecologist allowing to enrich his/her toolbox to better estimate the relationships between ecological variables andbiodiversity data

Texto completo da fonteIn the context of international mobility, we aim to explore in this thesis the motivations of the French executives regarding their intentions to accept an international assignment. Our study is based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and enabled us to conclude that the intentions to accept international assignment does not depend solely on the attitudes. The perceived behavioral control also contribute to the determination of this intention. The theoretical contribution of our research is to apply the model of TPB on the French executives who have the intention to accept an international assignment. The managerial contribution is to offer the firms some key guidelines to broaden their understanding pertaining to the improvement in their practices of mobility by identifying the motivations of the executives for an international assignment. The methodological contribution is the proposition of scenarios based on country of destination for exhibiting the contribution of three determinants of this intention in terms of attitudes, social norms and perceived control

Texto completo da fonteIt is generally believed that media messages influence the perceptions of audiences. Thus, they contribute to identity formation and to social cohesion. However, research in Canada has often found discrepancies in coverage by Quebec and English-Canadian media. This media divide has been suspected of amplifying the differences between the two communities. Yet, research on the differences between the Francophone and the Anglophone press in Quebec is limited. This thesis poses the question whether a linguistic divide also exists in the Quebec media landscape. For this purpose, we identified the frames mobilized by French- and English-language newspapers. We understand frames as interpretative schemata proposed by the media to make sense of news events. To verify our hypothesis that frames differ in the English and French language media of Quebec, we analyzed the coverage of Bill 14 by ten newspapers during 50 weeks. Using a mixed method, which combined a computer-assisted and a qualitative analysis using Van Gorp’s (2005) frame matrix, we identified linguistic, social, political, pragmatic and sovereignist frames. Our results show that four of these frames were used by both French- and English-language newspapers and that the media partially took up discourses from the other language community. However, the two groups prefer different frames and articulate them differently. The rapprochement of Anglophone and Francophone media in Quebec is thus limited, among other things, by diverging historic experiences and activism by community newspapers.

Texto completo da fontePurpose: To allow a reliable deformable image registration (DIR) method for dose calculation in radiation therapy and to investigate an automatic vessel bifurcations detection algorithm for DIR assessment to improve lung cancer radiation treatment. Methods: 15 4DCT datasets are acquired and deep exhale respiratory phases are exported to Varian treatment planning system (TPS) Eclipse^{\text{TM}} for contouring. Voxelized contours are smoothed by a Gaussian filter and then transformed into a surface mesh representation. Such mesh is adapted by rigid and elastic deformations based on hierarchical surface deformation to match each subsequent lung volumes. The segmentation efficiency is assessed by comparing the segmented lung contour and the TPS contour considering two volume metrics, defined as Volumetric Overlap Error (VOE) [%] and Relative Volume Difference (RVD) [%] and three surface metrics, defined as Average Symmetric Surface Distance (ASSD) [mm], Root Mean Square Symmetric Surface Distance (RMSSD) [mm] and Maximum Symmetric Surface Distance (MSSD) [mm]. Vesselness filter was applied within the segmented lung volumes to identify blood vessels and airways. Segmented blood vessels and airways were skeletonised using a hierarchical curve-skeleton algorithm based on a generalized potential field approach. A graph representation of the computed skeleton was generated to assign one of three labels to each node: the termination node, the continuation node or the branching node. Results: The volume metrics obtained are a VOE of 7.6 ± 2.5[%] / 6.8 ± 2.1[%] and a RVD of 6.8 ± 2.4 [%] / 5.9 ± 1.9 [%] respectively for left and right lung. The surface metrics computed are an ASSD of 0.8 ± 0.2 [mm] / 0.8 ± 0.2 [mm], a RMSSD of 1.2 ± 0.2 [mm] / 1.3 ± 0.3 [mm] and a MSSD of 7.7 ± 2.4 [mm] / 10.2 ± 5.2 [mm] respectively for left and right lung. 320 ± 51 bifurcations were detected in the right lung of a patient for the 10 breathing phases. 92 ± 10 bifurcations were found in the upper half of the lung and 228 ± 45 bifurcations were found in the lower half of the lung. Discrepancies between ten vessel trees were mainly ascribed to the segmentation methode. Conclusions: This study shows that the morphological segmentation algorithm can provide an automatic method to capture an organ motion from 4DCT scans and translate it into a volume deformation grid needed by DIR method for dose distribution combination. We also established an automatic method for DIR assessment using the morphological information of the patient anatomy. This approach allows a description of the lung’s internal structure movement, which is needed to validate the DIR deformation fields.
