Em tempos de desesperança, é mister romper com os pessimismos, entretanto, é igualmente necessário separar a crítica do romantismo pedagógico. A convivência com embaçamentos entre teorias e práticas educacionais,juntamente com políticas econômicas de empenho duvidoso no campo social, sugere espaços para que recontextualizações apareçam como modismos no mínimo perigosos. Nesse sentido, considerar a abordagem curricular multiculturalista como uma panacéia é um equivoco que precisamos evitar. As contribuições de Peter Mclaren certamente lançam outros desafios para uma leitura crítica das tendências pedagógicas pós-modernas, que permeiam as políticas públicas já há algum tempo, podendo servir como referência na construção de políticas educacionais críticas e de resistência.Palavras-chave: multiculturalismo, pós-moderno, políticas educacionais.

Resumo: Analisamos neste trabalho a nova abordagem que Peter Singer faz de temas éticos, com ênfase na ética prática, a partir da crítica que este filósofo faz ao que ele chama de "ética da sacralidade da vida". A expressão quer nominar uma maneira de pensar a ética, a qual se fundamenta em uma concepção de valor incondicionado da vida humana, concepção esta, por sua vez, oriunda das raízes judaico-cristãs de nossa civilização, e baseada na noção de "especismo", conceito-chave para se entender o pensamento do autor. Este conceito é analisado e criticado, de forma a possibilitar uma compreensão da posição de Singer em rediscutir a matriz antropocêntrica da ética, criando condições para, por um lado, incluir os animais não-humanos no âmbito das preocupações éticas e, por outro, extrair as consequências para a elaboração de novos referenciais para tratar temas éticos, tanto os tratados no âmbito da bioética, como extrapolando essa área. Palavras-chave: Ética Prática, bioética, utilitarismo, especismo, sacralidade da vida, eutanásia, aborto, suicídio.
Abstract: We analyze in this work the new approach that Peter Singer makes of ethical themes, with an emphasis on practical ethics, from the criticism that this philosopher makes to what he calls the "ethics of the sacredness of life". The expression wants to nominate a way of thinking ethics, which is based on a conception of unconditioned value of human life, which in turn comes from the Judeo-Christian roots of our civilization, and based on the notion of "speciesism", a keyword for understanding the author's thinking. This concept is analyzed and criticized in order to allow an understanding of Singer's position in rediscussing the anthropocentric matrix of ethics, creating the conditions for, on the one hand, to include nonhuman animals in the context of ethical concerns and, on the other hand, to extract the consequences for the elaboration of new references to deal with ethical issues, both in the field of bioethics, and in extrapolating this area. Keywords: Practical Ethics, bioethics, utilitarianism, speciesism, sacredness of life, euthanasia, abortion, suicide.

Resumo: O autor multiplicado: em busca dos artificios de Peter Greenaway Neste trabalho, centrado na obra cinematográfica de Peter Greenaway, investigo questões relativas à sua expressão autoral. Ao tratar da questão da autoria, levo em consideração o curso da obra e a conseqüente detecção de três fases de realização. Assim, sob o impulso do cinema experimental dos anos 60 e já esmaecido na década seguinte, Greenaway produzi14 dirigiu e montou, primeiramente, filmes não muito expressivos, mas, posteriormente, ganharia respaldo institucional para desenvolver projetos ousados na trilha de uma vanguarda tardia; os filmes realizados durante a década de oitenta testemunham um deslocamento abrupto de sua realização assumidamente experimental para o circuito de produção, distribuição e exibição do cinema de arte comercial. Finalmente, para análise do terceiro momento, exploro as relações entre o cinema, a televisão e as novas mídias, o que ID¿ fez retomar à década de 80, momento em que se verifica a exploração do meio por parte do diretor, dando prosseguimento, tal como nos primeiros filmes, ao ideal de resistência às formas dominantes da narrativa audiovisual. Em todo o trabalho, os filmes são analisados textual e contextualmente em suas feições culturais e históricas, direcionadas para decodificar uma explícita estética do artificio ensejada pela assinatura de Peter Greenaway
Abstract: The multiplied author: in the search ofPeter Greenaway's artifices In this work, focused on Peter Greenaway's films, I investigate his authorial expression. Dealing with authorship, I took in account the films in their chronological development, to reveal, consequentIy, three realization phases. Thus, under the experimental cinema exploitation from the 60's and, then, faded in the following decade, he produced, directed and edited unexpressed films at first, but, later, he would have institutional sponsorship to develop audacious projects in a late avant-garde route. During the 80's, an abrupt displacement is testified in his films: Greenaway shifted from the experimental ghetto to the art cinema production, distribution and exhibi~ion circuit. Finally, to delimitate the last phase, I consider the relationship among film, television and new media; to accomplish this, a return to the 80's was necessary because Greenaway, since then, has been interacting to the medium, making use of a resistant approach to the dominant audiovisual forms, such as in the early films. In the whole work, the fihns are textually analyzed and a cultural and historical contextualization is envisaged, both aspects addressed to decode an explicit artificial aesthetic fonned under Peter Greenaway's signature

Resumo: Arquiteturas Peer-to-Peer (P2P) têm sido uma alternativa bastante atraente para tornar a Internet mais acessível. Desde programas de compartilhamento de conteúdo a sistemas de comunicação têm utilizando esta abordagem de arquitetura e dando importantes contribuições para melhorias nas tecnologias e metodologias relacionadas as redes P2P. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho apresenta a definção da arquitetura de uma rede P2P para distribuição e compartilhamento de componentes de software, visando montar uma rede descentralizada, na qual qualquer participante possa se conectar, fornecer e buscar por componentes de software. Os componentes de software são módulos independentes, com interfaces bem definidas, que podem ser reutilizados em diferentes situações. O reuso de software vem se destacando como grande promessa para aumentar a produtividade no desenvolvimento de sistemas. A aplicação do reuso de software se concentra principalmente na reutilização e integração de partes prontas e previamente testadas. Este trabalho apresenta também a concepção de um modelo de repositório para armazenamento de componentes de software. Estes repositórios podem se comunicar através do protocolo de rede desenvolvido, montando uma rede de compartilhamento P2P. Através da construção da arquitetura, do mecanismo de busca e modelagem dos repositórios, propomos aqui a estrutura fundamental para a criação de redes e sub-redes independentes, visando compartilhar componentes de software entre grupos de pesquisa, universidades, desenvolvedores e empresas. Esta arquitetura constitui a estrutura de distribuição da Rede de Compartilhamento de Componentes de Software (RCCS). Abstract: Peer-to-peer (P2P) architectures have become a very attractive alternative to make the Internet more accessible. This approach has been widely used, from content sharing programs through communications systems, which has provided the P2P networks with considerable improvements in the technology and methodologies related. In this context, the current work presents the architecture definition of a decentralized P2P network for distribution and sharing of software components in which any participant can get connected, offer and search for software components. Software components are interdependent modules with well-defined interfaces that can be reused in different situations. Software reuse has been considered the big boom when it comes to productivity in software development. Reusing is related to the integration of ready and previously tested pieces of software. This work also presents the conception of a repository model for storing software components. These repositories can communicate with one another using the custom built network protocol, resulting in a strong and reliable P2P sharing network. Through the architecture definition, the search mechanism and the modeling of the repositories, we propose the fundamental structure for the creation of independent network and sub-networks so as to share software components between research groups, universities and developers. Such architecture constitutes the distribution structure of the Software Component Sharing Network. The project focused on developing this public network for sharing components has been hosted at the Ci&T/Unicamp Innovation Lab

This study aims to look at the theater in school education from the goldfish figure. This fish so unique, revealed by Peter Brook, is associated with the quality of the time that is captured in a theatrical event. The English director states that the configuration of a spectacle resembles the development of a fishing net process, since the entanglement of wires and the bonds of us determine the species of fish to be hooked. For this reason, in this study, they are chosen four pedagogical aspects considered most relevant in theatrical processes directed by Peter Brook, in an attempt to understand how a fishing net can act in a fruitful way to attract the goldfish in an educational context. Thus, the thesis is divided into two parts: the first is carried out one study of metaphor goldfish and selected pedagogical aspects: "amorphous intuition," dialogue "empty space" and game. In the second, a description and analysis is made of how the chosen aspects were articulated a theatrical practice carried out from March to August 2015 with students ages ranging from seven to twelve years old in a school of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina.
O presente trabalho visa olhar para o ensino de teatro na escola a partir da figura do peixe dourado. Esse peixe tão singular, revelado por Peter Brook, está associado à qualidade do momento que é capturado em um evento teatral. O encenador inglês expõe que a configuração de um espetáculo se assemelha ao processo de elaboração de uma rede de pesca, visto que o entrelaçamento dos fios e as amarras dos nós determinam a espécie de peixe que será fisgada. Por essa razão, na presente pesquisa são escolhidos quatro aspectos pedagógicos considerados como os mais relevantes nos processos teatrais dirigidos por Peter Brook, na tentativa de compreender como uma rede de pesca pode atuar de maneira profícua para atrair o peixe dourado em um contexto educacional. Desse modo, a dissertação se divide em duas partes: na primeira é realizada um estudo da metáfora do peixe dourado e dos aspectos pedagógicos selecionados; ?intuição amorfa?, diálogo, ?espaço vazio? e jogo. Na segunda é feita uma descrição e análise de como os aspectos elegidos foram articulados a uma prática teatral realizada de março a agosto de 2015 com alunos de faixas etárias que variam dos sete aos doze anos em uma escola de Florianópolis, Santa Catarina.

O propósito desta Dissertação de Mestrado é o de realizar um estudo sobre as redes peer-to-peer (P2P), os protocolos associados e as principais aplicações existentes. Nestas redes, o principal objetivo é a localização de recursos compartilhados e tal busca por recursos, atualmente, ocorre de forma relativamente limitada. Pretende-se também propor um mecanismo de pesquisas mais poderoso e flexível, utilizando-se as tecnologias estudadas: XML/RDF para a descrição de recursos e a arquitetura Gnutella como infra-estrutura peer-to-peer.

AbstractClassrooms are busy institutional settings in which conversational agendas are typically ordered by teachers due to the focus on curriculum content. Opportunities for extended storytelling, outside of focussed literacy times, may occur infrequently. This chapter investigates how children engage with each other and with curriculum concepts referred to as “culture”, through telling stories. The data are video recordings of young children (aged 4–5 years) telling stories during their everyday classroom activities. The data are drawn from a study on what intercultural competence “looks like” in the everyday interactions of preschool classrooms in inner-city Queensland, Australia. An ethnomethodological approach using conversation analysis highlights three fragments where children tell something about themselves. As they tell stories about aspects of their lives outside the classroom, children make their “culture” visible to other children and co-construct a local peer culture. The implications of the study’s findings point to how classrooms can be conversational spaces where children practise and build culture in action. The children share aspects of their everyday lives that are sometimes tangentially aligned with curriculum, but always available as a resource for making cultural connections. The children themselves do not name these activities as culture, but their association to what is known about how culture is defined, shows that they are orienting to these aspects.

It was commissioned by Peter Pears and first performed by him and Noel Mewton-Wood in r9 53. The confident sweep and visionary intensity of the music is in close empathy with the texts and is sustained throughout in a most impressive manner. The composer’s characteristically forthright, committed and authoritative approach is evident in all four movements. The work is truly on a grand scale.

The teaching infrastructure of the Dick Vet was again in one place. In 2011 David Argyle became Head of School. More than 1200 staff and students were based at Easter Bush. The BVM&S students comprised 602 women and 152 men. Free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) were offered to the general public. Student experience was enhanced in a variety of ways. Veterinary outreach extended as far as China. One Health - One Medicine was promoted. Peer-assisted learning was formalised. The BVM&S Curriculum Review was approved in 2015. The appearance in 2020 of SARS-CoV-2 prompted restructuring of teaching and learning practices to largely on-line home-working. In 2019 the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems was established. Over 800 students were studying for postgraduate taught qualifications in 2021-2.

Os sistemas colaborativos Peer-to-Peer apresentam uma forma de computação distribuída onde cada participante atua como cliente e servidor de recursos. A descoberta e representação desses recursos, juntamente com a sua proteção, são os principais desafios que envolvem esse tipo de computação. Este artigo define uma arquitetura de controle de acesso baseada em papéis específica para as redes Peer-to-Peer e busca, assim, contribuir para a escrita de aplicações colaborativas mais robustas. O protótipo implementado valida o modelo e provê meios para que cada nó da rede Peer-to-Peer gerencie a política de segurança dos seus recursos.

Training in the responsible conduct of research (RCR) has become an increasing concern of federal funding agencies such as NIH and NSF. In 2000, the Office of Research Integrity published the policy of instruction in responsible conduct of research for NIH funded research. This policy mandates that all research staff participate in RCR instruction. In 2007, the COMPETES Act was signed by President Bush mandating RCR instruction of all NSF-funded undergraduate students, graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers. Such training can and does take many forms, from online tutorials and study guides to seminar series to semester long classes. Core instructional areas in such training include appropriate data management, mentor-trainee relationships, publication practices and authorship, peer review, human and animal subjects and conflict of interest.

O brasil é um dos principais produtores e exportadores da cultura do mamoeiro (Carica Papaya L) em todo o mundo. O mamão é produzido em todo o território nacional, mas a maior parte da produção e exportação se concentra em três estados: Bahia, Ceara e Espirito Santo (FARIA et al, 2009). O mamão é uma frutífera típica das regiões tropicais e subtropicais. A variedade Golden e outras do grupo Havaí representam a maior parte da produção nacional, figurando no maior volume comercializado tanto no mercado interno como externo. As viroses são um dos maiores fatores limitantes para a produção da cultura do mamoeiro, levando a grandes perdas da produção e em alguns casos a destruição total das zonas produtoras (Lima et al, 2001). Dentro dessas viroses, dois vírus se destacam, o vírus da mancha anelar do mamoeiro ou mosaico (Papaya ringspot virus-PRSVp) e o vírus da meleira (Papaya meleira vírus - PMeV). Já existem práticas e técnicas que visam diminuir a disseminação desses vírus, mas ainda assim não são suficientes para os produtores, buscando solucionar esse problema esta pesquisa busca identificar de forma precoce os vírus que estão presentes na cultura do mamoeiro, para isso será feita uma modelagem conceitual, usando a Classificação Facetada, de Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan e do Modelo Entidade Relacionamento, de Peter Chen.

In Korea a four lane motorway is constructed between the city of Busan and the island Geoje, reducing traveling times from 1 hour by ferry to just 10 minutes by car. The so-called Busan-Geoje Fixed Link consists of 2 cable-stayed girder bridges and a tunnel, crossing the bay of Jinhae. The submerged tunnel is built by transporting each of its 18 elements below 2 pontoons from a construction dock to their final positions and lowering them on the sea bed. The project is unique, because the tunnel elements are installed in a bay with direct access towards open sea. For this reason, the effects of incoming swells and wind seas were investigated in detail, so that the operational limits of the tunnel element immersion could be accurately determined. This was achieved by using an approach of combined hydrodynamic scale model tests and time-domain computer simulations. First, scale model tests were carried out in MARIN’s Shallow Water Basin. A detailed test set-up was constructed, including the trench in which the tunnel elements are placed, as is shown in the photograph. Models of a tunnel element, two pontoons, the mooring system, contraction lines and suspension wires were constructed at a scale of 1:50. The motions of the pontoons and the submerged tunnel element, as well as the tensions in the lines, were measured in a range of different wave conditions. Different stages of the tunnel immersion were investigated. Second, a simulation model of the pontoons and tunnel element was constructed in MARIN’s time-domain simulation tool aNySIM. The large number of mooring lines, contraction lines and suspension wires resulted in a relatively complex numerical model. The simulation model was calibrated such that the results from the model tests could be accurately reproduced. Subsequently, a sensitivity study was carried out, investigating the parameters most critical to the operation and the mooring system of the pontoons was further optimized. Finally, the operational limits of the tunnel immersion were evaluated by carrying out more than 6,500 time-domain simulations, investigating a large number of different combinations of wind sea and swell. The simulation results included motions, velocities and accelerations, as well as line tensions. The extreme values were used to perform a combined evaluation of more than 10 structural and operational criteria. In order to improve efficiency of high-performance drilling processes while preserving tool life, the current study focuses on the design and implementation of an optimal fuzzy-control system for drilling force. The main topic of this study is the design and implementation of a networked fuzzy controller. The control algorithm is connected to the process through a multipoint interface (MPI) bus, a proprietary programming and communication interface for peer-to-peer networking that resembles the PROFIBUS protocol. The output (i.e., feed-rate) signal is transmitted through the MPI; therefore, network-induced delay is unavoidable. The optimal tuning of the fuzzy controller using a maximum known delay is based on the integral time absolute error (ITAE) criterion. In this study, a step in the force reference signal is considered a disturbance, and the goal is to assess how well the system follows set-point changes using the ITAE criterion. The main advantage of the approach presented herein is the design of an optimal fuzzy controller using a known maximum allowable delay to deal with uncertainties and nonlinearities in the drilling process and delays in the network-based application. In order to suppress the cutting-force increase, the feed rate is decreased gradually as the drilling depth increases, and the cutting force is quite well regulated at the given setpoint. The good transient response is verified by improvements in the integral time absolute error (11.77), integral time square error (2.912) and integral of absolute error (12.81) performance indices. Moreover, the experimental results without oscillations and overshoot corroborate that increases and fluctuations in force drilling can be suppressed despite an increase in drilling depth. Thus, the drilling process can be stabilized and the risk of drill failure can be greatly reduced through a fuzzy-control system.

With the advent of electronically alterable memories in electronic gas turbine engine control systems, there is now the opportunity for updating software in the field. Field loading provides a means to economically correct problems or introduce enhancements to system operation through the electronic control. In this paper we describe the characteristics of high integrity reprogramming systems used to update engine controls in-the-field. Pratt & Whitney Aircraft supports two methods for in-service reprogramming of Electronic Engine Controls (EECs), These two methods are PC Laptop based loaders and ARINC loaders. This discussion will focus on the capabilities provided to support in-the-field reprogramming of engine controls. The flexibility, integrity, and the benefits of field reprogramming provided by these software loading systems will be explained. These reprogramming systems provide a PC based application and ARINC based systems for either on-wing reprogramming or on-board reprogramming directly from a flight deck device to the EEC. The PC Loader reprogramming utilities allow field personnel to reprogram engine control application software and/or constants and configuration information using a suitably equipped IBM PC or compatible computer. These utilities are intended to be operated per Service Bulletin authorization only. They require a PC compatible computer (presumably a laptop model) with 2 UART interface cards, an interfacing cable, and the new software to be loaded. The rigor and manner of the integrity checks to ensure proper loading of the control is essential to an acceptable loading system. There are two types of ARINC-based loaders: on-wing loaders and on-board loaders. Both types enable the operator to upload application, trim, and/or configuration software to the engine control. Additionally the ARINC 615 device allows operators to download fault and configuration data from the control. Each type of loader uses a specially formatted file to control the sequence of operations involved in a data loading session. The on-wing loader utilizes a specially designed portable data loader which connects directly to the EEC via dedicated cabling through the control’s ARINC connectors. This type of data loader contains software which communicates via an ARINC 615 protocol to a peer software entity running on the EEC. The on-board loader uses the aircraft’s central maintenance computer system to communicate with the EEC over the aircraft’s ARINC 629 data bus. It also operates using a peer-to-peer communication protocol with the EEC. The ARINC 629 loader requires no extra equipment or cabling, nor does it require the EEC to be accessible for attachment of cables.

El estudio que se presenta a continuación tiene como objetivo realizar un estudio prospectivo para la Escuela de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia UNAD con un horizonte de tiempo al año 2026. Desarrollo. Su metodología se diseñó bajo un enfoque cualitativo de tipo descriptivo. El eje principal en el que se fundamentó el desarrollo de la investigación se enfocó en los postulados prospectivos de la escuela francesa representada por Michel Godet adaptado a los requerimientos del estudio en particular de la formación en salud. El procedimiento se dividió en tres etapas: Primera etapa, encuesta Delphi, busca determinar avances tecnológicos y tendencias de la educación en salud, Segunda etapa. Análisis estructural por medio del método MIC-MAC, Tercera etapa. Diseño de escenarios futuros y propuesta de escenario apuesta utilizando el método de ejes de Peter Schwartz. Conclusiones: Se evidenciaron cinco objetivos estratégicos para la formación en salud, como son: tecnosalud, infraestructura, investigación, redes académicas y transdisciplinariedad. Los ejes estratégicos permitieron diseñar cuatro posibles escenarios para la prospectiva en la formación en salud.

This study’s researchers investigated transit vehicle maintenance processes, maintenance needs, and potential opportunities associated with building additional bus maintenance facilities (e.g., regional maintenance centers) in Illinois. They collected information via three main tasks. First, they conducted a literature review to document practices on preventive and corrective transit vehicle maintenance processes and explored similar or comparable projects among peer states and regions. Second, they conducted a series of interviews with Illinois local transit agencies, nonprofit organizations, Illinois administrators, and peer states to identify common challenges and opportunities with fleet maintenance as well as to capture stakeholders’ perspectives on state-sponsored maintenance service. Third, they conducted a preliminary data-driven model analysis to present a better understanding of Illinois’ needs for regional maintenance centers and to illustrate how the Illinois Department of Transportation may systematically plan regional maintenance center locations and capacities to best serve unmet demand under a range of available budget values. This study’s findings lay the foundation for more effective planning of a better network of regional maintenance centers to provide long-term benefits to IDOT and partner agencies by reducing vehicle down time, decreasing maintenance and towing costs, and allowing for greater tracking of maintenance techniques in coordination with similar agencies across Illinois.

The availability and quality of pedestrian infrastructure play key roles in enabling access to transit. Many transit operators face challenges in facilitating this access, however, because they lack land use authority and encounter other institutional and programmatic impediments to effecting changes in the pedestrian environment. This report identifies the barriers to pedestrian access to transit in suburban communities located in the Pace Suburban Bus service area in northeastern Illinois and suggests potential solutions to overcome these barriers. The research team led several activities to collect data, including: conducting an academic literature review; reviewing pedestrian plans, policies, and programs in the region; surveying and interviewing key stakeholders; reviewing pedestrian funding sources; surveying and conducting case studies of peer transit agencies; conducting physical audits of pedestrian infrastructure; and interviewing residents of six municipalities about their transit access experiences. Lack of adequate funding, difficulties planning across jurisdictional boundaries, and conflicts in transportation priorities are major impediments to building pedestrian infrastructure. While planners and decision-makers tend to value pedestrian planning, challenges such as funding constraints and the need to retrofit suburban infrastructure are key barriers to implementation. Peer transit agencies face similar barriers to Pace and use strategies such as plan and policy development, diverse funding opportunities, and collaborative partnerships with stakeholder agencies and advocacy groups to overcome these barriers. Transit riders generally reported positive experiences with pedestrian access to transit in their communities. Many locations had robust infrastructure, but common deficiencies included poor sidewalk connectivity, incomplete crossings, lack of lighting and transit shelters, and deficiencies in Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) infrastructure. A suite of policy recommendations for Pace and other partners that focus on planning, policy, funding, interagency coordination, education and training, infrastructure prioritization, and transit amenities address the full range of physical and institutional barriers identified in the research.

The Kenya Adolescent Reproductive Health Project (KARHP) was launched in October 1999 in Busia and Vihiga districts as a three-year operations research study to determine the feasibility, cost, and effectiveness of implementing systematic interventions that address the reproductive health (RH) needs of adolescents aged 10–19 years. This USAID-funded project is part of the Population Council’s Frontiers in Reproductive Health Program’s global operations research. PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health) is implementing the project, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health, Education, and Home Affairs, Heritage, and Sports. The objective of the study is to establish the effectiveness of interventions designed to increase adolescents’ RH knowledge, delay the onset of sexual activity, increase adolescent use of RH services, and reduce risky sexual behavior. The community-based intervention comprises two components. The first is geared toward sensitizing stakeholders in the community about the need for adolescent RH services and information. The second provides services and information to adolescents through out-of-school peer educators. This document provides an update on the KARHP project.
