Texto completo da fonteThe quasi-thermal noise spectroscopy is an accurate method of determination of density and temperature in space plasmas. When an electric antenna is immersed into a plasma, it is able to measure electrostatic fluctuations caused by the thermal motion of plasma particles. These fluctuations are detected as the power spectral density at the antenna terminals, observing a spectrum at frequencies comparable to the electron plasma frequency for both electrons and protons, since the proton signal is strongly Doppler-shifted towards higher frequencies due to the solar wind drift velocity. Beside inducing the fluctuating electric field, some of the electrons are impacting the antenna surface, causing disturbances of the antenna electric potential. The signal caused by this population is directly proportional to the flux of plasma electrons impacting the antenna and is dominant if the antenna has a large surface area. In this work, we use the orbit limited theory to calculate the incoming particle flux for a non-thermal plasma described by $kappa$ velocity distribution function, commonly measured in the solar wind. The increase in the particle collection by cylindrical and spherical objects is quantified and presented as a function of the surface electrostatic potential and the fraction of supra-thermal particles. Including these results into the theory has turned out to be absolutely necessary for accurate measurements of the plasma parameters whenever the shot noise is the dominant component in the power spectrum. This is the case for STEREO because the impact noise is overwhelming on this probe, due to the presence of short and thick antennas. The comprehensive study of data on this mission is motivated by the fact that the electron analyzers are malfunctioning since launch and no information on thermal electrons is available. Results obtained are verified by comparing with the results from Wind, showing a good match between the values measured by the two spacecraft. Uncertainties of the measurements are determined by the uncertainties of the instruments used and are estimated to be around $40%$. The final outcome of this work will be establishing a database of the electron moments in both STEREO A and B that will be covering the entire duration of the mission. In the second part of the thesis, we use the kinetic approach to expand the theory of the quasi-thermal noise to plasmas where electron-neutral collisions play a dominant role. This technique is able to measure the electron density, temperature and the collision frequency as independent parameters using the wide frequency range both below and above the plasma frequency, if the ratio of the collisional to plasma frequency is not smaller than 0.1. The results presented here have can be potentially applied in laboratory plasmas and unmagnetized ionospheres, while at the ionosphere of Earth their use is limited to low frequencies due to the presence of the magnetic field

Texto completo da fonteObservations of atmospheric and ocean surface dynamics can be performed via radar remote sensing. The usual approach consists, in both cases, in numerically calculating the Doppler spectrum of the received temporal echoes using a discrete Fourier transform. Although satisfactory for most applications, this method is not suitable for observations of transient phenomena due to being shorter than the integration time required for radar observations. We use an alternative technique based on an autoregressive representation of the radar time series combined with the maximum entropy method. This approach is applied to coastal radar measurements of surface currents in the high frequency band as well as to L-band radar measurements of wind in the lower atmosphere. For both cases, through numerical simulations and case studies, we compare our approach with others that use different instruments. We show that for short integration times, where conventional methods fail, our proposed approach leads to reliable estimates of geophysical quantities (ocean currents and wind speeds)

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis is based on five publications studying the terrestrial and Martian ionospheres by making use of versatile instruments and of modelling techniques. The terrestrial ionosphere is a complex system strongly coupled to the magnetosphere and hence very sensitive to solar wind driving. Various kinds of instruments may be used to study the ionosphere, from ground-based instruments to satellite-borne systems. Two papers study the response of the auroral and subauroral ionosphere to solar wind high-speed streams, which originate from coronal holes at the surface of the Sun. These two studies make use of the superposed epoch analysis method, which enables to derive the statistical behaviour of the studied parameters. For the first study, which focuses on the F-region peak electron density measured by the Sodankylä ionosonde (at L = 5.2), the superposed epoch method has been modified so that a study of the effects of high-speed streams in the F region in different magnetic local time sectors becomes possible. The modified method is called phase-locked superposed epoch analysis. The second paper focuses on energetic (>30 keV) electron precipitation during high-speed streams by making use of cosmic noise absorption measurements from a chain of riometers located between L = 3.8 and L = 5.7. A third study reveals for the first time pulsation signatures in cosmic noise absorption data during a pulsating aurora event. This indicates that the electron precipitation flux is modulated simultaneously over a broad range of energies (from a few keV to several tens of keV) in relation to pulsating aurora. The fourth and fifth articles study the Martian ionosphere. They present a novel analysis method for Mars Express radio-occultation data. Contrary to the classical inversion approach, this new method is based on a direct simulation of the radio wave propagation between the ground-based station at Earth and the Mars Express spacecraft, in a modelled Martian environment. The parameters determining the properties of the neutral atmosphere and the ionosphere of Mars are adjusted in order for the simulated radio-occultation data to fit the measured data. The optimal set of parameters provides the retrieved neutral temperature and density profiles in the atmosphere, and the ion and electron density profiles in the ionosphere near the occultation point

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis entitled "Active control for wind turbine lifetime expectancy optimization" studies the operation of wind turbines and aims to reduce disturbance through an active control strategy. Wind turbines are known to operate under harsh environmental conditions mainly related to random wind speeds. The wind profile induces two disturbance components known as the wind shear and tower shadow. These components produce a disturbed aerodynamic torque causing stress, fatigue, and mechanical component failure. Chapter 1 introduces the wind turbine theory and all related mechanical and electrical subsystem. The extended Kalman filter (EKF) is then introduced to show the necessity of signal processing and diagnosis for disturbance isolation and detection. Chapter 2 presents a new modified Sliding Window Empirical Mode Decomposition (SWEMD) method as a signal processing method capable of better isolating the disturbance component. It is concluded that after the SWEMD one can accurately diagnose the wind shear and tower shadow disturbance frequency signature. In chapter 3 an estimation method based on the Unknown Input Observer (UIO) is applied in order to estimate the disturbance in the wind turbine. The UIO shows great results in accurately estimating the disturbance. Chapter 4 introduces the active control Linear Parameter Varying (LPV)-based strategy for torque ripple attenuation. The isolated disturbance by the SWEMD, and the estimated disturbance through the UIO are used as the LPV control input in order to generate a current control command. The control command is then injected into the generator in order to reduce the disturbance effect on the drivetrain. For both isolation and estimation results show good aerodynamic disturbance attenuation, while the UIO showed better results than those of the SWEMD. Chapter 5 presents the experimental setup used to validate the theoretical work. A test bench at the University of Poitiers is used to imitate the operation of the wind turbine. All the results matched the ones found in the theoretical tests
Bai, Hao. "Machine learning assisted probabilistic prediction of long-term fatigue damage and vibration reduction of wind turbine tower using active damping system". Thesis, Normandie, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021NORMIR01.
Texto completo da fonteThis dissertation is devoted to the development of an active damping system for vibration reduction of wind turbine tower under gusty wind and turbulent wind. The presence of vibrations often leads to either an ultimate deflection on the top of wind tower or a failure due to the material’s fatigue near the bottom of wind tower. Furthermore, given the random nature of wind conditions, it is indispensable to look at this problem from a probabilistic point of view. In this work, a probabilistic framework of fatigue analysis is developed and improved by using a residual neural network. A damping system employing an active damper, Twin Rotor Damper, is designed for NREL 5MW reference wind turbine. The design is optimized by an evolutionary algorithm with automatic parameter tuning method based on exploitation and exploration

Texto completo da fonteAs the cabins of new vehicles become increasingly silent, the sound quality and the acoustic comfort have become key arguments for car manufacturers to destinguish themselves from their competitors. Research on sound perception currently relies on an experimental approach involving juries listening to signals recorded on prototypes. To avoid the costs associated with these elaborate setups, a digital approach is proposed in the present work. The results of a model based on the SEA method (Statistical Energy Analysis), developed by Saint-Gobain Research Compiègne, would be used to generate the signals for subjective experiences. It is already used to predict the impact of glazing changes on the interior noise level of a vehicle exposed to environmental noise. However, its use to assess the automotive acoustic comfort brought about by these changes raises several questions, which we address in this thesis : — How should we generate audio signals from the predicted sound pressure level? — Can we use the obtained signals to evaluate acoustic comfort inside the car cabin with the same effectiveness as with recordings measured in the vehicle? Firstly, a signal generation process based on data obtained from the numerical model was proposed and then validated through a perceptual experiment. Next, two other subjective assessments by a panel of judges revealed a similar trend in the annoyance experienced, for several glazing configurations, regardless of the origin of the sounds (simulated or measured). They did, however, highlight a discrepancy in the assessments when tempered glazing was introduced into the vehicle configurations. The window seals, which were not included in the model, were suspected of being the cause of this variation. Subsequently, the experimental examination of the vibro-acoustic behavior of a flat glass installed in the window seals allowed us to observe a dissipation contribution from the seals. This resulted in an increase of the acoustic insulation of the glazing. As this insulation characterizes the glazing in the model, its sensitivity to the dissipation contribution of the seals had to be incorporated into our numerical approach. Finally, after analyzing the dissipation mechanisms for both the glazing and the seals, a numerical model based on the finite element method was implemented. It predicts the acoustic insulation of the glazing as it should be integrated into the SEA numerical model in order to take account of the effect of the joints at the boundaries of the glass sample. Given that the calibration of the model at mid-high frequencies is the result of an empirical parameter search process, it is essential to consider revising the model and search method in future work
Verley, Timothée. "Genèse et structure du marché de l’art brut". Thesis, Lille 1, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020LIL1A001.
Texto completo da fonteNowadays, art brut is an artwork category that is set up in the artistic landscape. It is exhibited in museums, exchanged in galleries and auctions, interpreted in many publications, it is also the object of admiration by spectators and collectors. Yet, for a long time, objects in this category were not considered as art and the category "art brut" did not exist. Therefore, there was no market was dedicated to it, no gallery showed art brut and no museum exhibited or was devoted to these works. Starting with this observation, the thesis deals with a twofold object: it studies, on one hand, the gradual emergence of a market dedicated to this category of works; and it is concerned, on the other hand, with the contemporary structure of this market. To reconstruct the conditions of possibility of the appearance of art brut and the process of construction of that category, we relied on the literature in economy, sociology, art history and social history of art. The analysis of the market’s construction and its structure is based on a field research divided into two parts. The first part consists of interviews: 40 semi-structured interviews were conducted with market players or, more broadly, members of the social space that was built around art brut (gallery owners, curators, artists, collectors, art fair director). The second part of our inquiry is based on the construction and statistical exploitation of a database of auction results for works categorised as "art brut" between 1985 and 2016. Our work shows that the art market is really forming in the 1980’s and 1990’s, as the competition and exchange relations around the category stabilise. This is made possible by the embedding of these relations in a set of institutions. The auction analysis highlights that the market for art brut is growing in the following decades, becoming a dominated segment of the art market. It is dominated because of its small size and because the most valued works of art brut are traded at prices much lower than the most valued works on the art market. In addition, the secondary market for art brut is structured in the same way as the art market. Indeed, these markets share a similar price structure, the same domination of male artists and identical phenomena of concentration of the market on some artists and in some places. The thesis shows finally that there is a “field” of galleries selling art brut in France. This field is structured by a double opposition: the first between the “big” galleries and the “small” galleries, the second between the galleries mainly inserted on the art brut market and the galleries which are more tied to other segments of the art market, especially that of contemporary art

Texto completo da fonteMohammed Dib (1920-2003), a poet, novelist, short-story writer, playwright, and later essayist, was one of the earliest French-speaking Algerian writers. He is the author of a large collection of works, showing significant transformations to the literary genres. The texts published between 1995 and 2003 reveal a new practice of essay-writing, which carefully blends information, poetry, reflection and fiction. This intermingling likewise affects works which appear at the start to be novels, thus rendering the identification of genre problematic. The transformations Mohammed Dib imposes on the genres, occasionally distorting them completely, are evidence of a desire to include an element of discontinuity in his literary works. By breaking out of the mould, Dib initiates us into a new imaginative world, which corresponds to another vision of History. By resisting the codes of genre representation, he opposes “solutions of logical continuity”, designed to explain contemporary events. The linear narrative, for example, is no longer sufficient to contain the diversity of voices created by the author. Thus, in his final writings he abandons completely the notion of “continuity” to bring to light all that has been left unsaid. His last work, Simorgh, published in 2003, demonstrates such a project. It embodies a new genre, capable of demonstrating the diversity of perspectives, and beyond that, of combining them. At the same time Dib explores the two literary traditions to which he belonged : Western and Arabic. In this way, the narrative, poetic and political voices compete for space in a text, leading to an ostentatious break with the fixed form. This last work finally symbolises the need to show a complexity, which knows no boundaries, such that the history dealt with in literature measures up to the reality which it is supposed to convey
