Adolescents are individuals with high curiosity, including sexual behavior. BKKBN findings in 2017 show that the age group of 15-17 years is the highest age of first dating and age 17 is the highest age of first sexual intercourse. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the role of parents, peer influence and the use of mass media with risky sexual behavior in adolescents at SMAN 76 Jakarta. This study used cross sectional study and was conducted on 154 respondents through a simple random sampling method. Data collection uses questionnaires on the role of parents, peer influence, the use of mass media and risky sexual behavior that have been tested for validity and reliability. Statistical test results using Chi-Square showed a significant relationship between the role of parents with risky sexual behavior (p = 0.001), peer influence with risky sexual behavior (p = 0.001) and the use of mass media for risky sexual behavior (p = 0.001). It is recommended that schools collaborate with local health services in conducting health education, counseling or therapy related to the problem of risky sexual behavior in adolescents.

Abstract. Premarital sexual behavior is the behavior that is driven by sexual desire, both with the opposite sex or same sex without going through a legal marriage process according to law and religion. This study aims to describe premarital adolescent sexual behavior based on sex, age and education level. The design in this study is descriptive quantitative by collecting data from premarital sexual behavior scale (consisted of 11 items) compiled by Widowati (2009). The participants were 400 teenagers aged 17-24 years, currently or have been dating, unmarried, and domiciled at Kelapa Lima Sub District. Data analysis by kruskall-wallis test. The result showed that there are significant differences in premarital adolescent sexual behavior based on sex and age, but there is no significant difference in adolescent sexual behavior based on education level. The teenagers are expected to be able to maintain their behavior and filter information received from peers or the mass media.

Abstract Syphilis is one of the deadly sexually-transmitted diseases. This paper studied the impacts of sexual behavior, mass media report and treatment of infected individuals on the dynamics of syphilis transmission. The analytical and numerical analyses of the model are presented. The disease free equilibrium of the model is both locally and globally asymptotic stable when the associated reproduction number is less than unity. Analysis of the Reproduction number shows that it is not possible to control syphilis disease transmission if the rate of individuals practicing risky sexual behavior is high. Furthermore, the treatment of late (latent and tertiary) syphilis infection is beneficial to the infected individuals, but has no impact in the lowering of the reproduction number. This study suggests that the effective control strategy of syphilis must focus on lowering the number of individuals practicing risky sexual behavior and applying higher treatment rates for early syphilis infections. Furthermore, the media function should address the issues regarding safe sexual behavior. Keywords: Syphilis, sexually transmitted infection, Risky sexual behavior, Mass media

(1) Background: Improving sexual autonomy among women in sexual unions comes with various benefits, including the reduction of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections. We examined the relationship between mass media exposure and safer sex negotiation among women in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). (2) Methods: The study involved a cross-sectional analysis of Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data of 29 sub-Saharan African countries. A total of 224,647 women aged 15–49 were included in our analyses. We examined the association between mass media exposure and safer sex negotiation using binary logistic regression analysis. The results are presented using a crude odds ratio (cOR) and adjusted odds ratio (aOR), with their respective confidence intervals (CIs). Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. (3) Results: The overall prevalence of safer sex negotiation among women in sexual unions in SSA was 71.6% (71.4–71.8). Women exposed to mass media had higher odds of negotiating for safer sex compared with those who had no exposure (aOR = 1.94; 95% CI = 1.86–2.02), and this persisted after controlling for covariates (maternal age, wealth index, maternal educational level, partner’s age, partner’s educational level, sex of household head, religion, place of residence, and marital status) (aOR = 1.40; 95% CI = 1.35–1.46). The disaggregated results showed higher odds of safer sex negotiation among women exposed to mass media in all the individual countries, except Ghana, Comoros, Rwanda, and Namibia. (4) Conclusions: The findings could inform policies (e.g., transformative mass media educational seminars) and interventions (e.g., face-to-face counselling; small group sensitization sessions) in SSA on the crucial role of mass media in increasing safer sex practice among women in sexual unions. To accelerate progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal five’s targets on empowering all women and safeguarding their reproductive rights, the study recommends that countries such as Ghana, Comoros, Rwanda, and Namibia need to intensify their efforts (e.g., regular sensitization campaigns) in increasing safer sex negotiation among women to counter power imbalances in sexual behaviour.

The authors set to investigate the influence of the Mass Media on adolescents' knowledge of and behavior towards sex and sexuality, especially, regarding early sex, the use of contraceptives and condoms. The participants were drawn from five secondary schools in Owerri Municipality, the Capital of Imo State, Nigeria. The simple size included 100 respondents made up of males and females between the ages of 10 and 19 years drawn from simple random sampling. Questionnaire containing semi-structured (close-ended) questions. Interview sessions involving media workers form select radio, television and newspaper houses in Owerri were conducted. Three research questions and one hypothesis were used to straighten the study. Results showed the respondents mean age for first sex is 17.8 years. The findings show that the media did not have very significant influence at 0.05 on adolescents' sexual behavior, especially, as regards, having first sex experience. This result is explained by the fact that most the respondents lived in boarding hostels and may not have access to media, while in school. It was recommended the influence of family members, including parents and peer groups should be given priority attention when adolescent sexual behavior is discussed, especially, in Nigeria where extended family members play a vital role in the socialization of the adolescents.

There is intense discussion among experts about the potential negative impact of sexually objectifying media content on young women. This article presents an experimental study in which young women were either exposed to pop music videos high in sexual objectification or to pop music videos low in sexual objectification. Women’s self-objectification and their subsequent media selection behavior were measured. The results indicate that exposure to sexually objectifying media increased self-objectification, which in turn increased the preference for objectifying media content. Self-esteem, the internalization of appearance ideals, and body mass index (BMI) did not influence these relationships. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Increase in adolescent sexual activity is a phenomenon noticed in modern societies, as well as in Serbia. The sexual activity reveals new health related problems, in relation to the unpremeditated pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Reproductive health is vulnerable especially in case of persons having first sexual experiences being adolescent, what could be explained by the physical immaturity and psychosocial infirmity to be responsible in sexual behaviour. The study of 300 sexually active adolescent women aged 19, attending The Youth Advisory Center of The Mother and Child Health Care Institute of Serbia was conducted between 1995 - 1997. The aim of this study was to evaluate how much the reproductive health in this population was endangered, by analyzing their sexual behavior, their attitudes in the spheres of sexuality and reproduction, as well as some variables of social microenvironments that might be relevant to adolescent sexual behavior. Questionnaire included investigation of youth opinion about some acceptable social measures in this field. According to the results of this study the adolescents reproductive health is seriously endangered. Interwieved adolescent females most frequently used traditional birth control methods, like coitus interruptus (54,3%), and often didn't think about the risk of acquiring sexually transmitted disesase (with new sexual partner the regular condom use was reported only in case of 55,6% girls). Adolescent girls had also poor health behaviors so that 31,0% of interviewed adolescent females visited gynecologist for the first time not earlier than one to three years after their first sexual experience. That resulted in large number of unplanned pregnancies (16,0% of interwieved girls had one or more induced abortions) and, possibly, a high prevalence of sexually transmitted infections. The model of sexual behavior, that was accepted by adolescent females was partly due to the lack of adolescents knowledge about sexuallity, contraception and sexually transmitted diseases. Improper were the main sources of relevant knowledge (peers, parents, mass media), therefore, youth had many misconceptions in this sphere (about the harmfulness of modern contraception, reliability of coitus interruptus method, lack of risk for sexually transmitted diseases transmission). The social adolescent sexual and reproductive health programme doesn't exist in Serbia. Parents of adolescent females were passive, and school and health care workers are not engaged in these matters enough. The possibility for social intervention programme exists, because young people were willing to improve their knowledge about sexuality and reproduction (83,3%) mostly by sex education in schools (51,0%) and through mass media (33,3%). The most appreciated sources of relevant knowledge would be physicians (67,0%), from whom they expect to have time and patience for them and their problems (91,3%).

Social marketing initiatives that influence adolescents’ sexual behavior are critical given that adolescents are the most at-risk group for sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned and unwanted pregnancy. This study, involving 1343 middle school– and high school–aged students, explores relationships among several factors that potentially influence adolescents’ sexual knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. The authors examine the influence of several socialization agents, including parents, peers, and mass media. The results show that parental influence is the most consistent socialization agent across age groupings on all dependent variables studied. However, the relative influence of parents, peers, and media may vary between middle school– and high school–aged adolescents. The authors discuss implications for social marketing initiatives, public policy, and further research.

Sexually transmitted diseases or STDs for short are diseases caused by unhealthy sexual relations. STDs are usually experienced by teenagers, adults, and the elderly due to deviant behavior such as free sex, anal sex, oral sex, or because of direct contact with sufferers through the genital tract, skin touch, vaginal fluids, sperm fluid and sexual intercourse that is not use condoms and other sexual safety devices. Factors that influence adolescent behavior are personal experience, the influence of others, cultural influences, mass media, educational institutions, religion and emotional factors. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct education and socialization on the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases using lecture methods, question and answer and discussion as well as aids or poster media used. From the results of the education and socialization activities, it is hoped that it can prevent sexually transmitted diseases and increase the generation of healthy living in adolescents at GMIH Eben Haezer Church, Ternate.

Objective of the work: The aim of this study is to learn about the influence of the media on the sexuality of young Poles. Material and methods: The diagnostic survey method and the survey technique were used, based on the research tool which was the original questionnaire. 310 respondents, different in terms of sex, faith, place of residence and education, current family situation, aged from 16 to 21, participated in the study. Statistical analysis was carried out with the use of Exel 2019 and the SPSS Statisctics package, version 25, using the ANOVA analysis of variance and the Mann-Whitney and H Kruskal-Wallis t-tests. The data collection stage was carried out in the period from October to December 2019, via the Internet. Results and conclusions: Both men and women participating in the study view sexual, erotic and pornographic content in the mass media available to them, but women viewed pornographic content significantly less often than men. The main source of knowledge about sexuality for young Poles is the Internet. Television is relatively rare. Most of the respondents find it difficult to assess whether the media is a credible source of information on human sexuality. Most of the survey participants believe that the media content does not accelerate sexual initiation and does not affect their attitude towards sex. Believers were much less likely to support the credibility of mass media in the context of sexuality than non-believers. Key words: sexuality, sexual behavior, youth, media

Prison narratives, mass media, and conclusions drawn from institutional research have fostered a perception of widespread “homosexual rape” in male penitentiaries. However, studies of sexual contact in prison have shown inmate involvement to vary greatly. To explore the nature and frequency of sexual contact between male inmates in a Delaware prison, the authors administered a survey of sexual behavior. Respondents were questioned extensively about sexual activities that they engaged in, directly observed, and heard about “through the grapevine” prior to their entry into a prison treatment program. Findings indicate that (a) although sexual contact is not wide-spread, it nevertheless occurs; (b) the preponderance of the activity is consensual rather than rape; and (c) inmates themselves perceive the myth of pervasive sex in prison, contradicting their own realities.

Background Early sexual debut (i.e., sex before the age of 15 years), especially if it is unprotected, may increase the risk of acquiring HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and unwanted pregnancies. We investigated the reasons for early sexual debut among in-school youth in Eswatini, a setting with high HIV incidence among youth. Methods This was a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study whereby data were collected from 81 sexually active in-school youth through seven focus group discussions (FGDs) in four purposively selected public high schools (two urban and two rural) in the Manzini region, Eswatini. In each school, except one, two FGDs (one for boys and one for girls) were conducted. Qualitative data were coded and analyzed thematically in Dedoose version 8.2.14. Results Nearly 40% of the participants reported having initiated sexual activity before 18 years. Six major themes emerged from the data: i) Intrapersonal factors (feeling mature, religiosity, nutritional or dietary patterns); ii) Parenting and household factors (living arrangement, lack of sexuality education, working parents, negative role-modeling from adults); iii) Peer and partner pressure (pressure from friends, threats from sexual partners, intergenerational sexual partnerships and transactional sex, testing sexual prowess, desire to fit in); iv) Contextual factors (neighborhood, location); v) Mass media (cell phone ownership, social media, and television shows or movies); and vi) Cultural factors (attending traditional ceremonies, loss of cultural norms, values, and traditions, and dress code). Conclusion and recommendations The poor monitoring and negative role-modeling by elders highlight the importance of involving parents or guardians as key stakeholders when designing interventions targeting risky sexual behavior among youth. The multifaceted nature of the cited reasons for early sexual debut calls for interventions aimed at curbing risky sexual behavior to be culturally sensitive and responsive to the themes identified in this study.

Contraception is the important component of family planning. It plays the important role in fighting with abortion and preserving the reproductive health of women. The specially designed anonymous survey was performed in 375 women living in the Republic of Kalmykia in the age from 16 till 45 years old. The average age of beginning of sexual life was estimated as 18,6 ± 0,1 years at the examined group. The average age decreased from 19,3 ± 0,3 to 17,0 ± 0,2 during the last 10 years. Almost the half of respondent (45,9 %) started the sexual life before the marriage. Kalmyk women started the sexual life later than Russian and entered the premarital relationship rarely. 70,2 % of sexually active women protected from pregnancy: 74,2 % used barrier methods of contraception, 13,5 % - intrauterine device, 12,9 % - oral hormone contraception, 11,1% - rejected sexual intercourse. Women below 30 and Kalmyk women used the barrier methods of contraception most often. Women older than 30 years used intrauterine device most often, oral hormone contraception was in use among cities inhabitants and among Russian women. The self-appraisal of knowledge on contraception questions showed that women estimate their erudition as 3,98 ± 0,04 on average. One quarter (23,2 %) of women consider themselves insufficiently or poorly informed dealing with this question. Women in the age below 20 and inhabitants of countryside are less informed. The information was received from the formal source by 32,5 % of women (at school - 27,7 %, from healthcare workers - 4,8 %). The majority of women (50,8 %) received the information from the informal source: 17,9 % - mother and other relatives, 12,8 % - mass media, 4,3 % - printed matter. The role of school in the informing young people dealing with this question decreased during the last few years. The role of healthcare workers in the informing young people is very low.

Social and cultural changes in Nepal, including better communication facilities and transport, more urbanization and a rising age at which people marry, have created more opportunities for young people for “dating.” Our qualitative study explores whether the existence of dating cultures influences young people’s sexual behavior in Nepal. Focus group discussions with a total of 75 participants and 31 in-depth individual interviews were conducted among young people in Nepal. Most urban and rural young people liked the dating culture. Although it is a new kind of culture in Nepalese society, it is gaining popularity. The mass media were regarded as encouraging and creating an environment for dating. Most participants believed that dating culture encourages premarital and extramarital sexual behavior. The authors underpin their findings by linking it to the “emerging adulthood” framework. In terms of public health, they recommend that dating practice should be discussed in formal and informal education to promote safer sex.

Premarital sexual behavior among adolescents of Maluku Province is four percent, which was higher than the national figure, making it the fifth-highest in adolescents’ premarital sexual behavior, after West Papua (10%), Papua (5%), North Sulawesi (5%) and North Maluku (4%). This study is based on the 2019 Adolescents’ Performance and Accountability Survey of Population, Family Planning, and Family Development to analyze the relationship between enabling factors and adolescents’ sexual behavior. This research is a quantitative study, which is correlative analytic with a cross-sectional study approach. The total sample was 241 adolescents age 10-24 years and not married. The analysis found significant factors related to adolescents’ sexual behavior were exposure to family planning information (p = 0.011), exposure to“genre” information (p = 0.015), exposure to STIs information (p <0.001), exposure to HIV / AIDS information (p = 0.001), exposure to drugs information (p = 0.026) and discussion of menstruation / wet dreams (p <0.001). This study suggests a breakthrough innovation in providing information which is not only through mass media but also social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or reproductive health applications.

Background Overcoming gender inequities is a global priority recognized as essential for improved health and human development. Gender-based violence (GBV) is an extreme manifestation of gender inequities enacted in real-world and internet-based environments. In Nigeria, GBV has come to the forefront of attention since 2020, when a state of emergency was declared due to increased reporting of sexual violence. Understanding GBV-related social narratives is important to design public health interventions. Objective We explore how gender-related internet-based conversations in Nigeria specifically related to sexual consent (actively agreeing to sexual behavior), lack of consent, and slut-shaming (stigmatization in the form of insults based on actual or perceived sexuality and behaviors) manifest themselves and whether they changed between 2017 and 2022. Additionally, we explore what role events or social movements have in shaping gender-related narratives in Nigeria. Methods Social listening was carried out on 12,031 social media posts (Twitter, Facebook, forums, and blogs) and almost 2 million public searches (Google and Yahoo search engines) between April 2017 and May 2022. The data were analyzed using natural language processing to determine the most salient conversation thematic clusters, qualitatively analyze time trends in discourse, and compare data against selected key events. Results Between 2017 and 2022, internet-based conversation about sexual consent increased 72,633%, from an average 3 to 2182 posts per month, while slut-shaming conversation (perpetrating or condemning) shrunk by 9%, from an average 3560 to 3253 posts per month. Thematic analysis shows conversation revolves around the objectification of women, poor comprehension of elements of sexual consent, and advocacy for public education about sexual consent. Additionally, posters created space for sexual empowerment and expressions of sex positivity, pushing back against others who weaponize posts in support of slut-shaming narrative. Time trend analysis shows a greater sense of empowerment in advocating for education around the legal age of consent for sexual activity, calling out double standards, and rejecting slut-shaming. However, analysis of emotions in social media posts shows anger was most prominent in sexual consent (n=1213, 73%) and slut-shaming (n=226, 64%) posts. Organic social movements and key events (#ArewaMeToo and #ChurchToo, the #SexforGrades scandal, and the #BBNaija television program) played a notable role in sparking discourse related to sexual consent and slut-shaming. Conclusions Social media narratives are significantly impacted by popular culture events, mass media programs, social movements, and micro influencers speaking out against GBV. Hashtags, media clips, and other content can be leveraged effectively to spread awareness and spark conversation around evolving gender norms. Public health practitioners and other stakeholders including policymakers, researchers, and social advocates should be prepared to capitalize on social media events and discourse to help shape the conversation in support of a normative environment that rejects GBV in all its forms.

Introduction. Over the past few years, the results of numerous studies have emphasized the importance of adolescents' insufficient knowledge about reproductive health (RH), which implies an increasing trend of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Objective. The aim of this study was to investigate knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of adolescents about RH in the population of Belgrade. Method. The study comprised 292 students from three secondary schools in Belgrade involved in the research February 1-15, 2008. The semistructured questionnaire about adolescents' knowledge, attitudes and behaviour about RH was filled in by themselves in presence of a student-investigator who provided assistance when necessary. Statistical analysis included ?2 test and correlation analysis. Results. Most adolescents (70.5%) showed the medium level of knowledge about RH. In our study, 33.6% of adolescents were sexually active. Sexually active students achieved a better score on the test about RH compared with the students who have not had sexual intercourse yet (?2-test=34.003; p<0.01). The average age of the first sexual intercourse was 16.5 years for females, and 15.7 years for males. The students with a lower average grade in school education experienced the first sexual intercourse earlier compared to the adolescents with a higher average grade during the school education (?=0.485; p<0.01). The most common (73.4%) source of information about RH is mass media. Conclusion. The results of our study indicate the need for more intensive and comprenhensive educational programmes in the area of RH for adolescents in our country.

Due to the growing number of sexually active adolescents worldwide, adolescent sexual development is critical. The purpose of this study was to look at the factors that influence sexual development in adolescents at Niger Delta University's Faculty of Nursing Sciences in Amassoma, Bayelsa State. Researchers used a descriptive survey design. Two research objectives were established to guide the study's course. The study's sample size was 160 adolescents chosen using a random sampling technique. The study included a self-structured questionnaire. The instrument's face and content validity were assessed. The test-retest approach was employed to determine the reliability of the questionnaire. According to the findings of this survey, adolescents have adequate awareness of sexual development because the majority of the respondents (152%) had heard about it. Friends 68(42.5%), social media 40(25%), school 32(20%), and parents 28(17.5%) were the sources of knowledge about sexuality development. Sex hormones were discovered to impact sexuality development in adolescents 130(81.25%), and estrogens and testosterones were revealed to be responsible for primary and secondary sexual characteristics in adolescents 90(56.25%). Furthermore, peer pressure impacts teenage sexuality development through counseling from peers 110(68.75%), dating relationships 120(75%), drinking and clubbing 116(72.5%), and sexual language usage 100(62.5%). However, psychosocial factor influencing sexuality development in adolescents includes; anxiety/depression 90(56.25%) self-esteem (low/high self-esteem) 83(51.88%), peer pressure 140(87.5%), parental influence 102(63.75%), alcoholism 104(65%), drug addiction 99(61.88%), pornography/masturbation 83(51.88%), religiosity 92(57.5%), culture 100(62.5%), mass media 121(75.63%) and nutrition 82(51.25%). In conclusion, the effects of hormones and psychosocial variables were identified as predictors of sexuality development in adolescents. It is Friends 68(42.5%), social media 40(25%), school 32(20%), and parents 28(17.5%) were the sources of knowledge about sexuality development. Sex hormones were discovered to impact sexuality development in adolescents 130(81.25%), and estrogens and testosterones were revealed to be responsible for primary and secondary sexual characteristics in adolescents 90(56.25%). Furthermore, peer pressure other factors have impacts on sexual development. However, it is recommended that Institutions should employ and retrain counselors through in-service training programs, capacity development seminars, and refresher courses on sexual behavior counseling among adolescents.

Background. Although higher-risk sexual behavior (H-RSB) is a major contributor to the rapid rising rate of new HIV infections, there exists paucity of comprehensive evidence across the sub-Saharan African region. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of H-RSB and its determinants across sub-Saharan Africa to inform policy. Method. Data were obtained from the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) of ten sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries with their three most current DHS surveys from 2000 to 2016. Only participants who ever had sexual encounters in their lifetime were included in the study. Weighted adjusted Cox regression with robust variance and constant time was used to investigate disparities of H-RSB among the ten SSA countries. Relationships between sociodemographic, socioeconomic, knowledge, mass media, and H-RSB were investigated. Results. The trend and prevalence of higher-risk sexual behavior show that Lesotho experienced a decreasing trend of the prevalence of H-RSB from 8.92 in period one to 6.42 in period three. Ghana experienced a marginal increase from 6.22 in period one to 6.76 in period two and then to 6.43 in the third period. However, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe obtained a marginal increasing trend in the prevalence of H-RSB from period one to three: 2.75 to 3.74, 4.33 to 6.24, and 6.11 to 7.99, respectively. Meanwhile, the prevalence of H-RSB in Namibia and Uganda decreased in period two to 1.84 and 5.76 but increased in period three to 2.01 and 6.83, respectively. Generally, determinants of H-RSB among the countries include age, sex, religious affiliation, marital status, educational level, employment status, economic status, age at first sex, and status of circumcision. Conclusion. Trend of relatively high prevalence of H-RSB has been found across majority of the countries with key sociodemographic factors influencing H-RSB. Therefore, different targeted interventional approaches are needed in all the countries to help reduce H-RSB and the overall HIV incidence. If issues regarding sexual behavior and sexual health are not addressed adequately, H-RSB can negate all the appreciable efforts aimed at ending the HIV pandemic by 2030.

One of the developments in communication technology that occurs today is the presence of various communication channels or 'media' in the process of delivering ideas, messages, or ideas. The variety of communication media has become the most effective method today in the formation of a person's point of view and behavior. In this study, researchers are interested in making one of the three types of communication media, namely audio-visual communication media in the form of films. Film is claimed to be a mass media that has a dominant influence than other media, this is due to the influence of psychology on films which is fundamental in the formation of opinions and people's psyche. Researchers are interested in examining a film entitled "2037" as a medium of representation of sexual violence against women. This study aims to identify signs or symbols that represent sexual violence against women in the 2037 film using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory as his analysis knife. The method applied in this study is qualitative with a data analysis model using semiotic analysis by Ferdinand de Saussure, which is based on signifiers and signified. The results and discussion showed that there were three types of sexual violence against women represented in the film "2037" based on markers and markers that had been found, including forced marriage, verbal abuse, and sexual harassment.

Background: The objective of this review was to explore and identify feasible, socially acceptable and effective adolescent sexual and reproductive health education (ASRHE) programs in sub-Saharan Africa. Methods: Four databases were searched to identify studies conducted within the past 15 years which evaluate the effectiveness of ASRHE programs in sub-Saharan Africa. The databases searched were Embase, Medline, CINAHL, PyscINFO. A further search for relevant articles was made in the Google scholar website. The title and abstract of each article were analyzed for relevance by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Further scrutiny and extraction of the studies was completed by selecting only those studies which met the criteria for inclusion. Results: Fifteen studies were identified. School, peer, mass media, health facility and community based ASRHE programs showed positive impact in one or more of the following outcomes in adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa: ( i) knowledge of HIV transmission; (ii) perceived personal risk of contracting HIV/ AIDS; (iii) self-efficacy to negotiate condom use; (iv) discussion with others about HIV/AIDS or condom use; (v) abstinence from sexual relations; (vi) reduction in high-risk sexual behavior; (vii) condom use (vii) testing for sexually transmitted infection (STI) and (viii) treatment seeking behavior. Conclusion: ASRHE programs of diverse forms can produce positive change in adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH). There is need for rigorous research to assess long term behavioral effects of culturally tailored comprehensive ASRHE programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Intimate relationships are often depicted in terms of a beautiful idealism, especially in the mass media. However, the evidence shows a vast number of women while in such a relationship have been subjected to physical, emotional, and/or sexual violence by their partner. Media plays an important part in shaping and reflecting social life, resulting in audience consumption of romanticized abusive behaviour. Its audiovisual content can perpetuate the point of view that some violence is normal – even romantic. Such a point of view can be found in Korean dramas, which have been popular with its Indonesian audience for some 20 years and do not show any signs of a decline in popularity. This study aims to reveal a narration of intimate partner violence portrayal as romance in the Korean drama The Heirs (2013). A qualitative method is used drawing on Propp's Seven Characters and Greimas' Actantial narrative analysis model. The research results show how The Heirs project romantic imagery masking abusive traits by establishing the male main character as a subject who forces a relationship without accepting rejection. Moreover, this study found the romanticization of abuse was amplified by depicting the female protagonist as an object expressing her objection to giving male characters the thrill of the chase. The findings in this research is consistent with the concept of romanticized media, particularly in portraying the romanticization of intimate partner violence.

Nowadays gay people are no longer ashamed to show themselves to society. Many gay associations or communities have been formed and developed in Indonesia. Various attempts to introduce that gay is something common and a trend in society continue to be carried out, through mass media, both electronic and printed, which preach the legalization of gay in various countries around the world. However, this certainly cannot make people easily accept their existence, and what causes people to be gay also varies. This study aims to see what factors cause gay behavior. This type of research is qualitative research in the form of case studies. There were two subjects in this study using purposive sampling technique. The data collection instruments used in this study were interview, observation, and documentation guidelines. To describe the factors that cause gay behavior, the researcher used data analysis through three stages, namely (1) data reduction; (2) exposure data (data display); (3) drawing conclusions and verification (conclusion drawing / verifying). The data analysis technique used in this research is thematic analysis by transcribing the interviews that have been made verbatim. The results showed that there are several factors that cause gay behavior, namely first experience, the subject has experienced sexual violence in childhood and the subject has been disappointed by women. The second is from authoritarian parenting and broken home families. The three environmental factors that support the subject behave as gay. Prevention efforts that can be done are by providing sexual education methods in Islamic teachings, as well as by providing counseling services.

This paper examines the discursive production of risk and its management in the German “enlightenment film” of the interwar period. From the sexual enlightenment films of the immediate postwar era to the Nazi-era sterilization films, public health campaigns mobilized new ideas about hygiene and the new resources of the mass media. Depicting a world composed of discrete risks (venereal disease, hereditary illness), on the one hand, and supplying information on how to manage such risks, on the other, public officials and experts invested considerable resources in this project of public education. Yet insofar as this project addressed controversial aspects of human behavior, and often proposed controversial solutions, this campaign of state-sponsored enlightenment remained an ambivalent one. Particularly in campaigns against venereal disease, leading advocates were frequently drawn into debates both about film's value as medium of mass instruction and the nature of the public they sought to address, a public perceived in fundamental ways as “at risk.” Their efforts routinely provoked charges that enlightenment films on sexual conduct could incite the very behaviors they strove to warn audiences against. By the end of the 1920s, the hopes placed in public enlightenment campaigns seemed to have waned. And yet the enlightenment film underwent a significant revival during the Nazi era. The paper concludes by examining the interconnections between the Nazis' reconceptualization of public enlightenment, risk, and strategies for managing it.

The paper ponders the subject of utilizing human sexuality in the process of social discipline. The author perceives this process as a modern form to subjugate an individual primarily on the basis of symbolic coercion. Making reference to the classical works of Michel Foucault the author emphasizes the factors that allow sexuality to be used for social programming. Foucault was critical of the idea that we experience the repression of a natural sexual drive, at least in its traditional meaning. In his opinion, multiplied knowledge of sex should be noted in Western societies, which leads to the hyper-development of sexual discourse, theory and the science of sexuality. He questioned the stereotypical understanding of sexual repressiveness, which determines a way of thinking in terms of a simple retaliation taken for inappropriate sexual behavior. He suggested that less observable programming control be introduced instead, based on disciplining. The limits of discourse are established by the admissible sexual relations. Whatever goes beyond this discourse, whatever is not contained within it, becomes abnormal and, potentially, repressed. The objectives of programming control and the limits of discipline are decided not only by the church and state, but also by business and media concerns, which fill the discourse with certain subjects thus deciding what dimensions of sexuality are permissible. Confessions that used to be confined to confessionals and psychoanalysts’ surgeries have become media commodities used not only marginally by pornography, but formatted to excite, fill voyeuristic needs and experience vicarious sensations. Discourse is becoming an area of apparent freedom, whereas in fact it is a means to discipline society. This seeming expansion of discourse limits to a lesser degree concerns the realm of problems and to a greater degree – accessibility. What used to be an object of communicative interest reserved for the elite has been included in mass discourse because this is the requirement of modern democracy and a liberal economy.

The purpose of this study was to use an enhanced version of the Health Belief Model as a conceptual framework to describe health beliefs and safer sex intentions for HIV prevention educational needs of juvenile delinquents between the ages of thirteen to eighteen years incarcerated in state supported training schools in Ohio. An accessible sample ( n = 452) of juvenile delinquents from four of nine institutions was the study population. Juvenile delinquents in this study were at high risk for HIV infection. They reported low rates of safer sex intentions. Rates of perceived barriers to condom use and perceived social barriers to safer sex were high and consistent with low rates of safer sex intention. Rates of self-efficacy for condom use were high but inconsistent with intentions. While a majority of subjects reported self-efficacy for discussion of sexual histories, a larger majority reported low efficacy for disclosing previous high-risk behavior. This suggests that discussion of sexual history with a partner may not be effective in reducing risk among this population. The primary source of information about HIV was the mass media. HIV prevention programs for juvenile delinquents should consider the current health beliefs of this high-risk, hard-to-reach population.

Teenagers have an essential role as part of the development. The proportion of youth ranks highest in the overall population in the world, including Indonesia. The development of the digital world occurs along with the transition of adolescent life which has both good and bad impacts. The impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic became an accelerator for increasing the utility of youth towards digital media. The increase in risky behavior due to technological developments carried out by adolescents raises concerns. On the other hand, technological developments can also positively impact increasing knowledge and attitudes/behaviors, especially regarding health and reproductive issues which are closely related to adolescent development. The purpose of this study was to analyze the knowledge and attitudes/ behaviors of adolescents related to reproductive health, adolescent characteristics and differences in adolescent knowledge according to their demographic characteristics and to analyze the use of digital media for Communication, Information, and Education (IEC) for post-pandemic adolescent reproductive health. This research is quantitative research and the unit of analysis used is the individual level (adolescents). The number of samples was 130 youth and data were analyzed by descriptive quantitative. The results of the study show that adolescents’ knowledge of reproductive health is in a good category, but still needs to be improved. Likewise, regarding attitudes and behavior, there are a few teenagers who have attitudes and behaviors which are vulnerable to problems, such as the consumption of alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, free sexual relations, and others. There are four major digital platforms which are often used and teenagers are comfortable using them to access reproductive health knowledge and information, specifically online mass media, Instagram (IG), Tiktok, and Youtube.

Despite substantial progress, adolescents remain at high risk for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Two independent random digit dial statewide Massachusetts surveys of 16- to 19-year-old persons conducted August through September 1986 and 1988 revealed that the proportion of teenagers who had discussed acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in schools increased from 52% to 82%. Knowledge about how AIDS is transmitted was also significantly higher in 1988. The proportion of teenagers using drugs other than alcohol and marijuana declined from 13% to 9%, and intravenous drug use declined from 1% to 0.1%. At the same time, among sexually active teenagers, the proportion who reported changes in sexual behavior to avoid AIDS increased from 16% to 34%. The proportion who adopted condom use to avoid AIDS increased from 2% to 19%. However, the overall proportion of teenagers who reported sexual intercourse in the past year increased significantly from 55% to 61%. In 1988, among sexually active teenagers, 37% never used condoms and 33% used them only some of the time. Of all respondents, 18% reported unprotected sex with more than one partner in the previous year, and 3% reported unprotected sex with intravenous drug users. Although mass media and school education may increase knowledge and stimulate some teenagers to change behavior, for others more personal forms of counseling may be needed. The effects of increasing physician counseling warrant special study. Teenagers who had spoken to physicians about AIDS were much more likely to have adopted condom use to avoid HIV exposure. However, although 80% of adolscents saw a physician in the past year, only 13% were counseled about AIDS.

The reason for the pathological behavior patterns of Russians is not only the influence of racist propaganda in the mass media but also fairy-tale narratives laid down in childhood. Fairy tales act as a means of moral education, offering certain models of behavior that are most appropriate for one or another stage of the cultural development of society. The concept of "fairy tale" is defined as a symbolic reflection of ancient beliefs; the method of preparation for the initiation rite; the veiled sexual complex; the result of the actualization of archetypes; the life scenario factor; and the basics of building productive and unproductive behavioral models. We understand fairy-tale therapy as an educational system, the purpose of which is the transfer of psychological knowledge about the social formation of an individual, and the formation of connections between behavior in real life and fairy-tale events. The gulf between Ukrainians and Russians is buried deep in fairy tales that parents tell their children before going to bed. The conducted comparative analysis reveals that the behavioral models offered by Ukrainian and Russian fairy tales are radically different. Ukrainian fairy tales form behavioral models such as the value of human dignity, honest victory over the enemy, responsibility for one's actions, altruism and willingness to help. Narratives and value orientations learned from childhood in Russian fairy tales determine cruelty, disregard for human life, soldaphonism, and then manifest themselves in the behavior of Russian society.
