Penderita hipertensi di Indonesia ini cenderung mengalami peningkatan yaitu diperkirakan 15 juta orang per tahun. Hipertensi adalah suatu keadaan dimana tekanan sistole dan diastole mengalami kenaikan yang melebihi batas normal (tekanan sistole diatas 140 mmHg, diastole di atas 90 mmHg). Gaya hidup merupakan faktor risiko penting timbulnya hipertensi pada seseorang termasuk usia dewasa muda dan lansia. Penelitian dikembangkan untuk memberikan terapi komplementer dalam menangani hipertensi. Salah satu jenis terapi komplementer adalah tumbuhan obat. Tumbuhan obat yang potensial dipercaya masyarakat dapat digunakan untuk menurunkan tekanan darah, adalah avocad. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk melihat perbedaan efektifitas rebusan daun avocado dan jus daging buah avocado dalam menurunkan tekanan darah pada lansia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Quasi eksperiment dengan desain penelitian two group pretest post test sampel penelitian ini adalah lansia yang berada di Kuok dengan responden sebanyak 30 orang yang diambil dengan cara purposive sampling . Hasil uji statistik yang digunakan adalah uji T dua mean independen. Berdasarkan hail uji T dua mean independen di dapatkan bahwa nilai rata – rata penurunan tekanan darah setelah diberikan rebusan daun avocad sebesar 15,03 dan nilai rata – rata penurunan tekanan darah setelah diberikan jus avocad sebesar 11,33 dengan nilai p = 0,039< α = 0,05 , artinya ada perbedaan efektifitas rebusan daun avocad dan jus avocado terhadap penurunan tekanan darah pada lansia yang menderita hipertensi di Kuok. Disarankan rebusan daun avocad sebagai salah satu alternatif bagi lansia penderita hipertensi dalam menurukan hipertensi.

Avocad (Persea americana) is a table fruit-producing plant of the same name. This plant comes from Mexico and Central America as a garden plant in other tropical areas of the world. In Indonesia itself, avocados are widely found because of the tropical climate, then people also like avocados because there are many choices from various food and beverage ingredients. Lack of attention to the cultivation and breeding of avocados makes the yields less good, and not optimal. so the author conducted this research in the hope that the yield and breeding of avocado plants can be maximized. This expert system was built using Web-based programming. The method applied is Naïve Bayes, which is a method that uses statistics and probability in predicting the chances of avocado plants having growth disorders based on the presence of pests (worms) in avocado plants.

Cet article examine les différentes manières par lesquelles les victimes de crimes ont pu être intégrées à une procédure accusatoire dans des ressorts de common law. Le dépôt d’une déclaration de victime a été la principale voie par laquelle les victimes se sont vu octroyer un certain statut dans les procédures judiciaires. Récemment, l’importance croissante des avocats des victimes dans divers ressorts de common law témoigne du souci accru de donner à celles-ci un vrai statut et des droits effectifs en termes de représentation juridique. Un avocat peut ainsi les accompagner tout au long de la procédure judiciaire, des audiences avant procès jusqu’à la détermination de la peine et aux procédures d’appel. L’expérience des tribunaux de droit civil pourrait aussi contribuer au succès de l’intégration des avocats des victimes dans des modèles accusatoires ; des avocats dont la notoriété grandissante traduit une avancée significative pour un droit pénal qui, en concevant les victimes comme parties prenantes des systèmes de justice de type accusatoire, attache de plus en plus d’importance à valoriser leur capacité d’action.

Dans son rapport, « Les avocats du ça » au CPLF 2023 à Lausanne, Olivier Bonard défend l’idée que le surmoi est une partie du moi qui joue un rôle de tiers comme avocat du ça. Sa dialectique entre un surmoi en idéal et un surmoi interdicteur chez l’analyste et chez le patient permet de lier le narcissisme régressif, la toute-puissance idéalisée et un narcissisme intégrant l’épreuve de réalité. Si l’on arrive à s’en servir dans la cure, le surmoi permet de faire bouger les interdits liés aux imagos parentales idéalisées et intériorisées. Le surmoi peut alors renoncer à idéaliser l’interdit, accéder aux traces des soins, de la protection et de l’amour parental et les lier à l’agressivité dans une relation ambivalente. Le dégagement d’aspects surmoïques exagérés devient alors un but de l’analyse.

À travers une lecture du rapport d’Olivier Bonard, guidée à la fois par la diversité des présentations cliniques et par la fertilité des métaphores, les chemins de l’affect en direction de la théorie seront revisités. À la fulgurance des expressions de l’affect répondent les jaillissements d’une mise en scène, d’une interprétation. Autant d’Einfallen qui initient la possibilité d’une sortie de la sidération qui ne pourra être opérante que dans une autre temporalité que celle de l’urgence. Dans ce travail, l’appui sur la notion des avocats du Ça permet une articulation de la clinique de la séance et de la métapsychologie. Toutefois, le tour de force de Bonard, c’est aussi de montrer via la processualité du travail psychanalytique, que c’est au moment même où, dans un renversement saisissant, le patient se fait avocat du Ça de l’analyste, suite à un acting par exemple, qu’il peut avoir accès à sa propre théorie.

L’auteure a mené, en 1996, une enquête sur les pratiques d’inscription des étudiants et des étudiantes en droit dans les cours facultatifs offerts dans les programmes de premier cycle des cinq facultés de droit situées au Québec et elle l’a complétée, pour les fins de cet article, avec les données correspondantes de la Faculté de droit de l’Université d’Ottawa, Section de droit civil. Cette enquête révèle que ce sont les cours qui appartiennent au « profil indicatif » de l’École de formation professionnelle du Barreau du Québec qui obtiennent le plus de faveur parmi les cours facultatifs mis à l’horaire dans les facultés de droit. Ce phénomène, que l’auteure appelle « syndrome du Barreau », menace la viabilité des cours facultatifs offerts en dehors du profil indicatif et a des conséquences graves sur la qualité de la formation des juristes. L’auteure recherche ensuite les causes historiques de cette situation et elle trace, à partir de sources secondaires, un tableau synthétique des origines de la formation professionnelle depuis la colonisation française. Elle indique les grandes étapes de la création des corporations professionnelles du droit. Elle montre le cheminement différent qui a été suivi par les notaires et les avocats pour la formation de leurs membres. Elle constate que très tôt, les avocats ont opté pour une formation académique pour raccourcir la durée des stages requis pour devenir avocat. Elle montre que les facultés de droit ont été créées principalement pour assurer la formation des avocats. Celles-ci ont hérité de ces origines une dépendance directe tant pour la composition de leur corps enseignant que pour le contenu des cours qui y sont dispensés. Malgré les critiques que cette situation a pu provoquer, le contrôle des facultés de droit par les membres du Barreau se fait sentir bien après qu’elles aient été composées de professeurs de carrière. En recherchant les origines du « syndrome du Barreau », l’auteure a été en mesure de montrer les racines profondes de l’inféodation des facultés de droit aux ordres professionnels.

Avocado is a versatile and valuable product. Its oil is comparable to olive oil in terms of nutritional quality. It can also be used in cosmetics, in particular, in soaps, shampoos and lotions. Despite all these important attributes that avocado has, it is highly perishable and coupled with the lack of farm-to-market roads, a lot of it is lost after harvest during the peak season. The introduction of methods that will transform avocado to products with a long shelf life and added value will go a long way to solving the problem of post-harvest losses and poverty. One of these methods is the production of avocado oil. In addition, in order to reduce the colour of the pigments without altering their quality, discoloration tests were carried out by adsorption on bleaching grounds (a montmorillonite, a kaolinite and activated carbon). The colour intensities of the oils before and after adsorption were determined using two complementary methods: a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and a Konica Minolta spectrophotometer CM-5. The UV-Vis spectrophotometer show that the activated carbon has a best fixing capacity of the pigments; According to the Colorimetric parameters (CIE-Lab) the coordinates L* a* b* that showed brightness (L*) of the avocado oil was half of the olive oil (41.13±0.02 vs 84.85±0.02). The activated carbon was better in fixing the red (a*) (4.99±0.01vs 15.73±0.01 before adsorption) and yellow (b*) (63.71±0.09 vs 70.07±0.09 before adsorption) pigments, while the other two adsorbents have very little influence on the red colour of avocado oil. RésuméL’avocat est un produit versatile et de grande valeur. Son huile est comparable à huile d’olive en terme de qualité nutritionnelle ; elle peut également être utilisée en cosmétique en occurrence dans les savons, champoings et lotions. En pleine saison, l’on fait face à une abondance des avocats dans les zones de production qui sont très souvent enclavées ; c’est ainsi que face aux difficultés de transport et les routes peu praticables pour l’importation, l’on se retrouve en train de perdre de très importantes quantités d’avocats après les récoltes. Or la production d’huile d’avocats permettrait de réduire les pertes post récolte, réduirait le chômage et permettrait de lutter contre la pauvreté après la vente des huiles extraites. De plus, dans le but de réduire les pigments colorés, des tests de décolorations effectués par adsorption sur des terres décolorantes (une montmorillonite en provenance de Maroua, une kaolinite en provenance de Douala et le charbon actif) sont effectués. Les couleurs des huiles mesurées avant et après adsorption à l’aide deux appareils complémentaires : Le spectrophotomètre UV-Vis et du Konica Minolta spectrophotomètre CM-5 montrent. Les analyses spectrophotométriques UV-Vis montrent que c’est le charbon activé qui présente la meilleure adsorption des pigments ; D’après les coordonnées L*a*b*, la clarté de l’huile d’avocat est pratiquement la moitié de celle de l’huile d’olive (41,13±0,02 contre 84,85±0,02), le charbon activé fixe mieux les pigments rouges (a*) (4,99±0,01 contre 15,73±0,01 avant adsorption) et jaunes (b*) (63,71±0,09 contre 70,07±0,09 après adsorption), tandis que les deux autres adsorbants influencent très peu sur la coloration des huiles.

How much assistance should a trial judge provide a self-represented litigant [SRL] before the judge’s impartiality will be reasonably questioned? This question has been of continuing concern to both the bench and bar ever since the rise of the pro se litigation movement in the late 1990s, particularly in the context of “mixed” cases involving an SRL and a represented party. Case law and ethics codes provide inconsistent decisions and vague guidelines for judges, who must balance their duty to provide reasonable assistance with their duty to ensure a fair trial for all parties. This paper reports the results of a survey administered to 210 Canadian family law practitioners who were presented with 16 hypothetical scenarios involving an SRL and a represented party. Respondents indicated their views regarding the impartiality and helpfulness of the trial judge in each scenario, involving various procedural defaults by the SRL and different forms of judicial assistance or lack thereof. The results indicate that lawyers' perceptions of a judge's impartiality are affected, inter alia, by the favourability of the outcome for the SRL, and whether the assistance provided dealt with procedural or substantive matters. Future research is needed to determine whether a consensus can be established regarding perceptions of lawyers, lay persons, and judges regarding which forms of assistance are reasonable and required, permissible, or impermissible.Jusqu’à quel point un juge de première instance peut-il venir en aide à une partie qui se représente elle-même sans que son impartialité puisse raisonnablement être mise en doute? Cette question ne cesse de préoccuper les juges et les avocats depuis l’essor qu’a pris le phénomène de l’autoreprésentation à la fin des années 1990, en particulier dans le contexte des cas « mixtes », impliquant une partie qui se représente elle-même et une partie représentée par un avocat. La jurisprudence et les codes de déontologie fournissent des décisions contradictoires et des lignes directrices vagues aux juges, qui doivent trouver un équilibre entre leur devoir de fournir une aide raisonnable et leur obligation d’assurer un procès équitable à toutes les parties. Le présent article expose les résultats d’une enquête réalisée auprès de 210 spécialistes du droit de la famille du Canada, auxquels on a soumis 16 scénarios hypothétiques impliquant une partie se représentant elle-même et une partie représentée par un avocat. Les répondants ont indiqué leur point de vue quant à l’impartialité et à l’aide accordée par le juge de première instance dans chacun des scénarios. Les scénarios comportaient diverses erreurs de procédure commises par la partie se représentant elle-même et différentes formes d’aide judiciaire ou l’absence d’aide de cette nature. Les résultats indiquent que la façon dont les avocats perçoivent l’impartialité d’un juge est affectée, entre autres, par la mesure dans laquelle l’issue est favorable pour la partie se représentant elle-même et par le fait que l’aide a porté sur des procédures ou sur des questions de fond. Il faudra d’autres recherches pour déterminer si un consensus peut être atteint relativement à la façon dont les avocats, les non-initiés et les juges perçoivent les formes d’aide qui sont raisonnables et requises, autorisées ou interdites.

Avocado immense importance arouses the need of its evaluation to check its adaptability under different climatic conditions. The value addition of avocado fruit is necessary to keep it available for longer time period. Avocado Oil, Avocado Tea, Avocado Pickle, Avocado Marmalade and Avocado Jam is highly nutritious products and it importance as Vitamin E Powerhouse in addition to rich source of major essential vitamins and minerals make it an everyday choice for health conscious people. The growing of Avocado has huge potential in uplifting the rural economy, rural area agriculture based employment and reducing the poverty rate of growers. On the other hand, overall Avocado industry is highly criticized because of deforestation, massive water utilization, polluting the water bodies with insecticides and fertilizers, posing a threat to other plant species, and environmental pollution. Despite that huge benefits associated with avocado growing compensate for these losses. The review gives a glimpse of sustainability perspectives of growing avocado.

La profession d’avocat a dû numériser sa pratique afin de répondre aux pressions extérieures. Ce faisant, une attention trop faible a été apportée à la cybersécurité. Or, si le numérique facilite l’exercice de la profession, il la fragilise également. Notamment, le secret professionnel de l’avocat est menacé par les outils déployés au sein des cabinets. Car le numérique crée des vulnérabilités, dont aucun cabinet n’est à l’abri. Ces vulnérabilités sont, dans un premier temps, techniques. Celles-ci se traduisent par des incidents de sécurité informatique qui sont susceptibles d’atteindre les données traitées par les avocats. Les vulnérabilités sont, dans un second temps, juridiques. En effet, en conséquence d’une violation de données subie par le cabinet, l’avocat encourt un risque juridique qui se traduit par l’engagement de sa responsabilité. Ces constats sont l’occasion pour la profession de sécuriser sa pratique, afin de poursuivre sereinement sa numérisation. L’intégration de la cybersécurité se fera par deux approches. La première est technique, et exige l’emploi du chiffrement. La seconde est juridique, et se scinde en deux domaines. Dans le domaine contractuel, les avocats doivent sécuriser les relations qu’ils entretiennent avec ceux susceptibles d’accéder aux données traitées par le cabinet. Dans le domaine du contentieux, les avocats devront adapter leurs stratégies contentieuses afin de réduire les effets néfastes causés par les incidents de sécurité informatique
Lawyers have had to digitize their practice in order to respond to external pressures. In doing so, too little attention has been paid to cybersecurity. While digital technology facilitates the practice of the profession, it also weakens it. In particular, professional secrecy is threatened by the digital tools which are deployed within law firms. Digital technology creates vulnerabilities that no firm is immune to. These vulnerabilities are, first of all, technical. They result in computer security incidents that can affect the data processed by lawyers. The vulnerabilities are, secondly, of a legal nature. Indeed, as a result of a data breach suffered by a law firms, lawyers incur a legal risk which results in the engagement of their liability. These findings are an opportunity for the profession to secure its practice, in order to continue its digitalization. There are two approaches to integrating cybersecurity. The first is technical, and requires the use of encryption. The second is legal, and is divided into two areas. In the contractual area, lawyers must secure the relationships they maintain with those who may have access to the data processed by the law firm. In the area of litigation, lawyers will have to adapt their litigation strategies in order to reduce the harmful effects caused by computer security incidents

La période de 1920 a 1971 est une période de mutation pour la profession d'avocat. A travers la relation qu'un l'avocat et le client apparaît toute l'évolution que subit le barreau français. Autant la formation des jeunes avocats stagiaires que le contrat passe entre un membre du barreau et son client sont les exemples types du renforcement de la technicité exigée par la clientèle. Les changements de mentalité intervenus dans la société poussent la profession d'avocat à se remettre en cause. Le client demande de plus en plus de compétence à son défenseur, ce qui entraîne une modification de la conception même du rôle de l'avocat dans la société. Les barreaux passent d'une image "aristocratique" de leur mission à une représentation économique de leur travail. L'honoraire tribut fait place à l'honoraire rémunération. L'avocat devient le spécialiste d'une prestation déterminée. De changement découle l'augmentation croissante du domaine de la responsabilité professionnelle, mais aussi l'acceptation par la déontologie de l'action en paiement d'honoraires. La protection du titre d'avocat et donc du domaine de compétence devient et reste un problème majeur pour cette nouvelle profession.

Le thème de la responsabilité s'est considérablement développé durant le vingtième siècle, les professionnels du droit, dont l'avocat, n'ont pas échappé à cette mouvance. Réputé de bonne foi, ce dernier était assuré de voir sa responsabilité engagée uniquement sur la base d'une faute lourde ou du dol. Le recours à ces notions était indispensable pour qu'il soit inquiété, restreignant ainsi tout recours à son encontre au pur cas d'école. La déontologie, garantie de l'intégrité de l'avocat formait comme un écran, véritable obstacle à l'idée de toute responsabilité à l'égard du client. Ce n'est que face à ses pairs que le professionnel pouvait avoir à rendre des comptes ou dans le cadre d’éventuels délits d'audience. Sa responsabilité était ainsi limitée au plan disciplinaire. Ces temps sont aujourd'hui révolus. Se basant sur la déontologie, le juge et le législateur entendent encadrer les nouvelles activités de l'avocat et ont mis au jour différentes obligations sur le plan civil comme pénal. Désormais,l'avocat répond de son activité sur le plan civil, pénal et disciplinaire
The theme of responsibility has grown considerably during the twentieth century. Legal professionals, whose lawyer , have not escaped this trend. Renowned in good faith , the lawyer was assured held liable solely on the basis of gross negligence or deceit.The use of these concepts was essential for it to be sentenced , thus restricting any appeal against it to the pure case study. Ethic ensured the integrity of the lawyer, and was a real obstacle to the idea of any responsibility towards the customer. His responsibility was limited to disciplinary field. But this is gone. Il faut pourtant considerer linguet comme le fondateur du barreau moderne

For twenty years Elsie September has refused to visit her uncle, Hannie, a state patient at Valkenberg mental hospital. At her grandmother's insistence, she almost goes to see him one day, but she only gets as far as the building and cannot bring herself to go inside. Instead, she meets Shaun and, as a relationship develops, Elsie begins to tell him the stories of her childhood. But Elsie's relationship with Shaun is troubled and unbalanced. Before Elsie reaches the point in her narrative where she will explain why she refuses to see her uncle, she and Shaun part acrimoniously and he disappears. Elsie has, by now, become so caught up in the telling of her story that not even Shaun's disappearance can stop her from going back to the day her world changed beneath the sheltering arms of the avocado pear tree.

Les avocats chinois d'aujourd'hui sont à la croisée des chemins, tiraillés entre une culture juridique inquisitoriale et un système de procédure qui se veut contradictoire ; entre les traditions juridiques chinoises toujours vivaces et le nouveau droit importé florissant ; et enfin, entre le monopole traditionnel de l'intérêt collectif et la reconnaissance de plus en plus grande de l'individu dans la société actuelle. Dans l'ancienne société chinoise où le système clanique et holiste tolère peu la notion de l'individu, la profession de Songshi, maître du procès, n'a jamais pu vivre sous le soleil. Pour la même raison, la profession d'avocat a subi le même sort pendant la période communiste pure et dure de la Chine. Aujourd'hui, la suprématie de l'intérêt collectif au détriment de l'intérêt de l'individu continue à engendrer pour l'avocat des risques professionnels particulièrement lourds à supporter, surtout quand l'avocat se tient en première ligne devant son client, pour affronter le procureur. Le conflit est poussé à l'extrême en ce qui concerne la défense pénale contre une accusation passible de la peine capitale, où l'avocat atteint le sommet de la noblesse de son ministère, tout en s'exposant le plus au danger face au Parquet. Pourquoi la société chinoise accorde--t--elle si peu de place à l'individu ? Pourquoi, en dépit du droit chinois érigé sur le modèle des grands codes européens, l'individu n'obtient--il toujours pas une place aussi légitime que dans les sociétés occidentales ? Et si la réponse se trouvait au plus profond de la société chinoise et de la mentalité juridique du peuple chinois ?
Chinese lawyers today are at a crossroads, torn between an inquisitorial legal culture and a procedural system which aims contradictory ; between Chinese legal traditions still alive and thriving imported new law, and finally, between the traditional monopoly of the public interest and recognition of more and more of the individuals in today society. In ancient Chinese society, where clan and holistic system tolerate little notion of the individual, the Songshi's profession, trial's master, was never able to live under the sun. For the same reason, the lawyer's profession had suffered the same fate during China's rough communist period. Today, the supremacy of the public interest at the expense of individual's interests continues to lead the lawyer on heavy professional hazards, especially when the lawyer stands in the front line for his client to face the prosecutor. The conflict is pushed to the extreme regarding criminal defence against a charge punishable by death, where the lawyer reached the top of the nobility of his ministry, while exposing the most danger, facing Parquet. Why does Chinese society leave so little room for the individual? Why, despite the Chinese law being modelled on the greatest European codes, individuals don't seem to gain a place as legitimate as in European societies ? What was, is and will be the relationship between the individual and the collective in a Chinese society ?

Avocado oil currently does not have standards in place to regulate its purity or quality. To set appropriate standards, factors that impact the chemical composition of avocado oil need to be better understood. To help address this, fruits from different regions were harvested throughout the year and processed using lab-scale equipment into oil. The oils’ purity (fatty acid profile, sterols, and triacylglycerols) and quality (free fatty acidity, peroxide value, and specific extinction in UV) were determined in addition to minor components such as tocopherols. It was discovered that growing region and harvest time had a greater impact on fatty acid and sterols profiles than using whole fruit verses only flesh to process the oil. The same standards are set for all avocado oils regardless of the country of origin, this finding indicates it will be important to ensure standards can accommodate oils from different regions. In addition, using poor quality fruit to make oil caused a significant increase in the free fatty acidity compared to using good quality fruit at the time of processing. This work determined a baseline for avocado oil quality parameters by extracting oil from ripe, good quality fruit, which can in turn can inform reasonable limits for avocado oil quality standards.

Codex Alimentarius is a collection of international food standards aimed at protecting human health and removing barriers to international trade. The Codex Committee on Fats and Oils (CCFO) is responsible for the development of world-wide standards for fats and oils of animal, vegetable, and marine origin. With the rapid increase in the production, international trade, and value of avocado oil, an international standard is needed to ensure the authenticity and purity of avocado oil. The CCFO has undertaken work on a revision to the Codex Standard for Named Vegetable Oils to include a definition and provisions for the chemical and physical characteristics of avocado oil. This includes provisions for fatty acid composition, chemical and physical characteristics, sterol content and composition, as well as tocopherol and tocotrienol content and composition. This will be an overview of the progress of the committee, Â the current draft provisions, and the upcoming work and data that are needed in order to finalize and adopt avocado oil into the Standard for Named Vegetable Oils.

To fight against the high cost and the increasing scarcity of cement and at the same time to reduce the CO2 greenhouse gases emission associated with the production of Portland cement, two types of wood ashes as a substitute of cement in the production of concretes were investigated. In this paper, we substituted cement by two types of species of wood ashes namely, avocado and eucalyptus ashes following the proportions ranging from 0% to 30 % on one hand, and on the other hand, we added these two types of species of wood ashes namely, avocado and eucalyptus ashes following the proportions ranging from 0% to 10 % by weight of cement in the concrete samples. After 7, 14 and 28 days of curing, compressive strength tests were conducted on these concrete samples. The findings revealed that using wood ashes as additives/admixtures or as a substitute of cement in the production/manufacturing of concrete decreased the compressive strength of concrete. Hence, it can be said that wood ash has a negative influence on the strength of concrete. At three percent (3%) and ten percent (10%) of addition, the wood ash from eucalyptus specie offers better resistance compared to the wood ash from avocado specie, whereas at five percent (5%) of addition, the wood ash from avocado specie offers better resistance compared to the wood ash from eucalyptus specie. At thirty percent (30%) of substitution, the wood ash from eucalyptus specie offers better resistance compared to the wood ash from avocado specie. The compressive strengths increase with the increase of curing age.

The original objective was to determine the impact of temperature on floral behavior and pollen tube growth and humidity on the proportions of self-, close, and cross-pollinated avocado fruit on trees growing in humid, coastal and dry, inland CA climates. Because self-pollination was demonstrated to be the prevailing mode of pollination in Florida cultivars in warm humid conditions, it was appropriate to determine if similar rates of self-pollination occur in a dry Mediterranean climate present in California. The conclusions of the work were that despite limiting cool temperatures present in Ventura County, where the research was conducted, self-pollination within Stage 2 flowers is the dominant mode of pollination at both the humid and dry sites. Moreover, it was determined that pollen transfer is mediated by wind and bees have a negligible role in pollen transfer. Temperatures that are marginally warm enough to allow somewhat normal floral opening and closing behavior are still insufficient to provide pollen tube growth to the ovule before abscission of the flower. These results provide the basis for understanding why growers utilizing solid block avocado plantings achieve good yields without bees.

C. gloeosporioides attacks unripe avocado fruits in the orchard. Germinated spores produce appressoria that germinate and breach the cuticle, but the resultant subcuticular hyphae become quiescent and do not develop further until fruit is harvested and ripens. Resistance of unripe avocado to attach by C. gloeosporioides is correlated with the presence of fungitoxic concentrations of the preformed antifungal compound, 1-acetoxy-2-hydroxy-4-oxoheneicosa-12, 15 diene in the pericarp of unripe fruits. The objective of this proposal was to study the signal transduction process by which elicitors induce resistance in avocado. It was found that abiotic elicitors, infection of avocado fruit with C. gloeosporioides or treatment of avocado cell suspension with cell-wall elicitor induced a significant production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Ripe and unripe fruit tissue differ with regard to the ROS production. The unripe, resistant fruit are physiologically able to react and to produce high levels of ROS and increased activity of H+ATPase that can enhance the phenylpropanoid pathway ad regulate the levels of the antifungal compound-diene, inhibit fungal development, resulting in its quiescence. Interestingly, it was also found that growth regulators like cytokinin could do activation of the mechanism of resistance. Postharvest treatments of cytokinins strongly activated the phenylpropanoid pathway and induce resistance. We have developed non-pathogenic strains of C. gloeosporioides by Random Enzyme Mediated Integration and selected a hygromycin resistance, non-pathogenic strain Cg-142 out of 3500 transformants. This non-pathogenic isolate activates H+ATPase and induces resistance against Colletotrichum attack. As a basis for studying the importance of PL in pathogenicity, we have carried out heterologous expression of pel from C. gloeosporioides in the non-pathogenic C. magna and determine the significant increase in pathogenicity of the non-pathogenic strain. Based on these results we can state that pectate lyase is an important pathogenicity factor of C. gloeosporioides and found that fungal pathogenicity is affected not by pel but by PL secretion. Our results suggest that PH regulates the secretion of pectate lyase, and support its importance as a pathogenicity factor during the attack of avocado fruit by C. gloeosporioides . This implicates that if these findings are of universal importance in fungi, control of disease development could be done by regulation of secretion of pathogenicity factors.
