Texto completo da fonteSince a century, the intensive development of the French territory, without consideration of the archaeological heritage, has driven to the irreversible destruction of an incalculable number of sites. Today this process is slowed down. The restructuring of the historic heart of cities and importants projects of local planning are accompanied by the archaeologists. They unprecedented remodelled the knowledge of our history. It is a luck and a révolution which need to be manage with the profound transformation of the media. Archaeology need media even if it's sometimes difficult to adapt it at the constraint of the quickness which is neccessary in the word's information. Because media influence the opinions especially in cultural field, organize into a hierarchy the events of the current, emphasizing some and leaving the others in the shadow. The subjectivity is important and the reference media (daily national press and television) set the tone, define the tendency. These last ones are followed in by the local press which tries to put the facts within the reach of their readership. The door which opens, with the broadcasting and especially the tentacular and infinite network of Web, oblige the archaeologists to rethink the centring of the information. Identity, origins, universal heritage, battle of the ideas and cultures, can fascinate as well an other public on the Internet
Olcèse, Rodolphe. "L'archive, une puissance de nouveauté dans la pratique contemporaine de l'image en mouvement". Thesis, Lyon, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018LYSES045.
Texto completo da fonteBased on the analysis of three contemporary films (X+ by Marylène Negro, Pays barbare by Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi, The Uprising by Peter Snowdon), this PhD aims to reconsider the found footage practice as a creative act that points to a fundamental potential of cinematographic media to perform a feedback on its own materiality. This PhD states as an initial hypothesis that all cinema is a second hand cinema. Using as a starting point Walter Benjamin’s works on language and translation, the reemployment and the repetition as principle of every filmic expression are considered as essential conditions for the rise of radically new forms. The topic follows three main lines : forms, rhythm and events. Theses issues are tackled in order to highlight that the cinematographic works analysed in this PhD – combining fragmentary forms or exploring the polyrhythmic dimension of found footage - allow to consider the screen and further more, the archive itself, as agents of the event. Based on the dialogic and relational dimension of moving image, the archive editing is inextricably poetic and political. Hence cinematographic practice, archaeology of techniques and political history are considered as fundamental materials by the filmmakers studied in this PhD. The reemployment as used by these artists operate a dual act : show the world as it has been and in the mean time say what this world could become. The archive editing can thus be understood as a gesture performed in the present time, for the present, a gesture that reveals the image of a world full of possibilities

Texto completo da fonteThe North Anatolian fault (NAF), a 1000 km-long dextral fault zone is known for its strong seismic hazard. It accommodates the westward motion of Anatolia, relative to Eurasia. In its western part, the NAF splits into three strands, one of which passing south of the Marmara sea and the Iznik lake. This NAF middle strand (MNAF) shows nowadays a very low seismic activity. However, this area has been characterized by a significant earthquake hazard over the last two millennia. Several ancient authors mention the occurrence of more than six destructive earthquakes that impacted Iznik (old Nicaea), which was an important political and religious centre during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Our study aims to constrain the recent seismic activity on the MNAF in the Iznik area at different time scales through a multidisciplinary approach coupling earth science and archeology. The first goal of this thesis is to develop the study of ancient buildings as archives of the historical seismicity by observing their successive damages and repairs. The city of Nicaea is appropriate for this kind of study as it presents several well preserved ancient buildings that bear traces of numerous repairs. I focus my study on the critical infrastructures for the city such as the 3 km-long protecting walls. This also includes the aqueduct that provided the city with water and is crossed by a segment of active fault, and a Roman basilica recently discovered underwater in the Iznik lake 20 m far from the shore. Applying different dating techniques (stratigraphy of the archaeological building, 14C) to the various materials of these buildings (terra cotta, mortar, concretions on the aqueduct), I was able to identify at least three damaging earthquakes since the 6th century AD. The amount of damage on these buildings allows to estimate local intensities at VIII on the European macroseismic scale (EMS98). Thanks to numerical simulations, I show that the current deformation visible on a Roman obelisk north of Iznik is compatible with magnitudes close to Mw 7 for epicentral distances smaller than 15 km.The second goal of this thesis is to constrain the Quaternary slip rate on the MNAF and better understand the formation of Iznik Lake, a 313 km²-large lake located just west of the city, which is the largest freshwater lake in the Marmara region. The main faults around the lake were mapped using a high-resolution DEM derived from Pleiades images. Geomorphic markers offset by the MNAF were systematically measured. The statistical analysis of the offsets revealed six major ruptures preserved in the landscape, with coseismic displacements between 2 and 6 m. The ages of three levels of lacustrine terraces north of the lake were quantified by radiocarbon and in-situ produced 10Be. A minimal horizontal slip rate of 2.9 mm/yr was estimated. The southward tilting of the lake paeloshorelines is compatible with a high vertical slip rate on the MNAF around 6 mm/yr.While working on the morphology and lithologies of the Iznik area, we have discovered significant evidence for LGM glacial events. The U-shaped morphology of several successive valleys east of Iznik Lake separated by topographic highs is interpreted as the print of past glaciers. This is confirmed by the presence of moraine deposits on the sides of the valleys, erratic blocks from various lithologies and glacio-lacustrine sediments. The geographical distribution of these morphological and lithological markers enabled us to reconstruct the former location and eastward retreat of this glacier. The absolute ages obtained from glacial deposits and alluvial sediments postponing the glaciation are compatible with paleoenvironmental proxies in Iznik Lake and previous studies of other Turkish LGM glaciers. This constitutes the first evidence of glaciation at low elevations in Turkey
Hopkins, Fleur. "Aux frontières de l'invisible : culture visuelle et instruments optiques dans le récit merveilleux-scientifique au passage du siècle (1894-1930)". Thesis, Paris 1, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019PA01H067.
Texto completo da fonteIn parallel with X-rays, aura photography and attempts to communicate with the planet Mars, the writer Maurice Renard shaped, between 1909 and 1930, a movement, unrecognized today: the “merveilleux-scientifique”. Its plot is rationally designed, with the exception of a scientific law that is invented or modified, allowing human beings to perform prodigies only found in fairy tales: shrinking or mind-reading. There is ample evidence in Maurice Renard’s various manifestos his literary model was conceived as an “optical machine”. As such, based on more than 00 stories, 100 authors and illustrators and nearly 800 illustrations, our study maps the obsession for the extension of the visible (seeing inside, seeing beyond, seeing the other side). To do this, we mobilized throughout our work new resources and concepts. Visual studies, on the one hand, highlight the changes made in the scopic regimes of the time (endoscopic view, panoptic view, optogrammic eye, etc.). They reveal new visual artifacts, such as “récits sous images”, suggestive advertising or illustrations of popular novels, valid as historical evidence of the historical construction of gaze, vision and visuality. Media Archaeology, on the other hand, gathers media that are forgotten, discarded, late or too far ahead of their time. This field of research collects a significant number of “imaginary media”, highly inventive: “psychograph“, “ondogene”, “electroscope”

Texto completo da fonteWhilst the influence of color optical theories on the development of pictorial techniques in the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries has been the subject of numerous studies, the field of color psychology needs to be explored further. Our research focuses on the historical and epistemological links between psycho-physiological approaches to color - derived from the discourse of experimental psychology, psychiatry and psychic sciences - and visual cultures at the turn of the Twentieth century. This dissertation explores the power of color as mental conditioning, or «chromomentalism» : how color influences the mind and more broadly the body of the individual by affecting its ability to concentrate, health or mood. The thesis presents three major axes that correspond to multiples aspects of color psychology : color-attention, color-energy and color-emotion. The first part analyzes the attention-grabbing devices used both in the laboratory and on stage, the dialectic between attention and distraction in urban experiences, and the rise of psychotechnics of color (art, cinema, advertising:). The second part explores the oractices of energetic control (the utopian goal of the "body without fatigue", neurasthenia, psychotechnics of energy) and the bio-aesthetic interpretation of color that emerges from occultism and experimental sciences. The third part focuses on the power of color to affect emotion, by questioning the debate on empathy and the education of the senses, the popular aesthetics of colors, the link between chromatic and social harmonies

Texto completo da fonteThis doctoral thesis presents the funerary practices of a large cross-Channel area, called “Medio-Atlantic province”. This work focuses on the second Iron Age or La Tène period (mid-5th century – last quarter of the 1st century BC) and the British Iron Age (late 5th century BC – mid-1st century AD). The analyses of the data on the treatments of the bodies, the funerary architecture and the grave-goods highlight six “Medio-Atlantic” funerary groups and expose their spatial and temporal evolution. This study allows to understand the main funerary features of Cross-Channel areas, as well as other funerary groups in theirs eastern margins

Texto completo da fonteThis work deals with the impact of the geographical information systems (GIS) in the french institutions of archaeological research. The examination of projects drawn from various contexts (archaeological services of regions with a measure of autonomy, national institute of preventive archaeological research(INRAP), Ministry of Cultural Heritage, University and institute of researchs), allowed us to kick away the peculiarities and durabilities of the practices connected to GIS.This first approach is followed by the implementation and the analysis of ten experiments realized with the archaeological teams of the departmental service of archaeology of Val-d'Oise (SDAVO) and those of the UMR 7041 Archaeologies and Sciences of Antiquity, which allowed us to think about the modalities of the development of a geographical database applied to the archaeological research. This double initiative shows us that it is relevant to question the methods and the formal techniques of implementation of tools so that is taken into account favor the deep nature of the various actors with their rationalities and their perceptions. It highlights the strategic aspect of the devices of mutualization and sharing of the equipments, datas and skills. The use of the GIS in archaeology has to conceive according to a double process: integration for the development of models of data allowing to assimilate the organizational specificities and the professions by each; generalization by the use of standards which the constitution is one of problems which remains to resolve

Texto completo da fonteRecent megalithic research on Neolithic tumulus in western France takes more and more interest in architecture in its entirety. However, our knowledges remain uneven. The architectonic data, related to the construction site, are almost nonexistent compared to the architectural data, about the formal and ornamental aspects. Moreover, both are more numerous for the massive blocks (orthostats and cap stones) than for the dry stone masonry which however is the predominant part of a tumulus. This thesis aspires to balance and improve our understanding of these architectures by developing an appropriate methodology to read all kinds of elevations. It adapts the building archeology, used for historical edifices, to the megalithic architecture principles. Its application has two steps. The first concerns the little studied circular plan buildings. The examined sites are the cairn III of the tumulus C of Péré at Prissé-la-Charrière, the edifice B of Boixe necropolis at Vervant and the Motte de la Jacquille at Fontenille. This step results in a global synthesis on the tumulus of this type. The second step aims to understand both architectonic and architectural evolutions of megalithic buildings. It includes the study of the Carn tumulus at Ploudalmezeau, as well as the south tumulus of Barnenez at Plouezoc'h, both revealed by P.-R. Giot whose excavations had suggested complex phasings. Furthermore, these two buildings contain almost all the corbelled vaults in good condition in the west of France, opening a particular research axis on this type of covering. The architectural studies synthesis of these different sites allows an assessment of the methodological approach of the megalithic architectures and lead to discussions and perspectives of studies about the times of the construction and the architectural evolution for the whole megalithism in western France. This synthesis also gives a new vision of Neolithic societies who ordered, built, used, restructured and abandoned these architectures

First of all, mrs liao shows that television has became a massmedia because 800 millions people watch in spite of a real mediocity of its programs. As to the radio, this media is both very common and regionalised and it has been the main factor of the unification of china. Concerning the written press, it has to face the concurence of foreign papers because it has definitively lost. Its image, being a plain propaganda instrument for the c. C. P. Concerning taiwan, hong kong, macao and singapore ad all the chinese media in the other parts of the world, mrs liao writes an analysis which consists a very pragmatic description of quantitative and qualitative factors as : number of titles, number of readers, audience, explained opinions, maintenance of lectorate, radio and television programs. . . In the second part of her thesis of doctorate, mrs liao delivers us an approach of the history of chinese media. She peculiazly shows that chinese papers have been existing since ancient times but began in fact to european like at the end of the 19th century. At the end of the second part we have the description of the characteristics of marxist media after 1949, and of the consequences of the opening of china to occidental countries in 1978. At least in the third part, are described the various problems the chines media have to face today. At the same time mrs liao insists on the political and cultural specificities of all media in contiental china

We establish three typologies of studying cases chosen from the French satirical weekly newspaper "Le Canard enchaîné". The typologies are made in three parts. The first typology is of structuralism, the second one consists in classifying the defreezing cases by transformations, the last one is a typology of three primary functions of predication. In doing so, we propose different linguistic approaches in treating the problematical defreezing phenomenon, which causes problems in teaching, comprehension and computational linguistic treatment in French

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis analyzes what remains constant and what changes in the image of Syria in the French media between the 18th century and the year 2000. This image divides in two: on the one hand, a mythic “imaginary” in literature and, on the other, a mediatized image in the print and visual press. The so-called mediatized image centers on a repressive representation of Syria under French mandate in L'Humanite and Le Figaro in 1939, date at which the sandjak of Alexandrette ceased in Turkey. Then the thesis traces the evolution of this image through the study of the cultural image of Syria in the newspaper Le Monde between 1987 and 1999. The end point of my work on the mediatized image consists of a study of the visual image or Syria on the channel Arte between 1996 and 2000. To conclude this thesis, I study the literary mythic image of Syria and the Arab world in Volney, “Voyage en Syrie et en Egypte,” Maupassant in “Allouma” and Le Clezio in “Poisson d'Or. ”
M'Hamsadji, Takia. "L'image de l'Orient arabe dans les médias américains". Paris 7, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987PA070177.
Texto completo da fonteThe aim of this study is to determine the characteristics of the arab stereotype in the american media and its development since the creation of the state of israel in particular. The negative image of the arab world is presented here as the inheritance of orientalism and european colonialism combined with a historical context. The arab-israeli conflict and the oil embargo have brought about a series of "misunderstandings" that strenghened the old fear of islam. The technological advance and the reign of the elctronic era have promoted the propagation of the myth of the orient and enforced an erroneous aspect of the arab civilization and history. Beyond the fixed stage of categorization and prevailing ideology, a new journalism and an awakening of the american public opinion in relation to the american policy towards the middle east have emerged since the 1970, s. This new approach is linked to a better understanding of economic and cultural interdependence between the arab nations and the united states, and to the work of a better organized arab lobby eager to cope with its jewish counterpart. The arab governments and the arab americans have set up a solid organizational structure with thye object of locating and demolishing the arab negative stereotype through an active policy of information on the arab world and an exhaustive use of teh american media. The economic prosperity of the arab orient has allowed a greater pressure to be exerted on the western countries. . .

The research has been done because of the small knowledge of the architectural vocabulary and the lack of understanding of the significance of architecture by most people. By working around thrée principal types of medias : text supports (books, magaznies and e-books), audiovisuals (the radio, the television and the cinema) and the interactif medias (networks, CD-Roms and interactif points) the presence of the subject "architecture " is analyzed in a vast corpus. A close look at the educational role that the medias should play is done by running an analysis of the sort and the amount of architectural knowledge that is transmitted and the advantages and inconvenients of the informationnal supports used

Texto completo da fonte62 non-interpreter participants and 7 interpreter participants listened to 16 different extracts of interpretations that had been initially broadcast either on TV or on the web. The participants commented and rated these recordings. Non-interpreters’ comments tend to show that the interpretation “works”, i.e. it seems to carry the speaker’s message across and does not constitute an obstacle. Comments tend to focus on form rather than content. Non-interpreters seem to pay attention to quality parameters which already feature in the literature (in particular intonation and fluidity) but also to some (supra)parameters which have rarely been studied so far: the balance between the sound levels of the original speech and its interpretation; the way the speaker is portrayed through the interpretation; and the way emotion in the source speech is conveyed in the interpretation. None of the individual parameters identified in the present study turned out to have a clear-cut, major influence on overall quality assessment. The present thesis studies not only individual quality parameters but also interactions between them. In particular, perceptions of form and content seem to be closely linked, and listeners’ trust seems to be determined by a number of both form- and content-related parameters. Some differences between the two groups of participants emerge. Interpreters seem more sensitive to wording. False errors were flagged up only by non-interpreters. Non-interpreters seem to listen to the speaker’s message first and foremost; their reactions to the interpretation itself tend to come later, if at all

Understanding trending content and its dynamics is crucial to the explanation of opinion spreading, and to the design of social marketing strategies. While previous research has mostly focused on trending content and on the network structure of individuals in social media, this work complements these studies by exploring in depth the human factors behind the generation of this content. We build upon this analysis to investigate new personalization tools helping individuals to discover interesting social media content. This work contributes to the literature on the following aspects: an in depth analysis on individuals who create trending content in social media that uncovers their distinguishing characteristics; a novel means to identify trending content by relying on the ability of special individuals who create them; a mechanism to build a recommender system to personalize trending content; and techniques to improve the quality of recommendations beyond the core theme of accuracy. Our studies underline the vital role of special users in the creation of trending content in social media. Thanks to such special users and their ``wisdom'', individuals may discover the trending content distilled to their tastes. Our work brings insights in two main research directions - trending content in social media and recommender systems

Texto completo da fonteThe ease of publishing content on social media sites brings to the Web an ever increasing amount of user generated content captured during, and associated with, real life events. Social media documents shared by users often reflect their personal experience of the event. Hence, an event can be seen as a set of personal and local views, recorded by different users. These event records are likely to exhibit similar facets of the event but also specific aspects. By linking different records of the same event occurrence we can enable rich search and browsing of social media events content. Specifically, linking all the occurrences of the same event would provide a general overview of the event. In this dissertation we present a content-based approach for leveraging the wealth of social media documents available on the Web for event identification and characterization. To match event occurrences in social media, we develop a new visual-based method for retrieving events in huge photocollections, typically in the context of User Generated Content. The main contributions of the thesis are the following : (1) a new visual-based method for retrieving events in photo collections, (2) a scalable and distributed framework for Nearest Neighbors Graph construction for high dimensional data, (3) a collaborative content-based filtering technique for selecting relevant social media documents for a given event

Texto completo da fonteThe multiculturalism which characterises Lebanese advertising in the written press, is a mixture of Lebanese identity (innately Arabic) with distinctive western influences. This advertising conveys symbols belonging to Lebanese culture as well as those understood worlwide. The usage is mainly French, to a lesser extent English and rather less Arabic. It therefore mirrors the multilingual capability of Lebanese citizens. In eliminating social, cultural and religious differences, it reflects an image solely of an upper class. It displays a westernised style of living as much as a Lebanese one, while showing characters and settings with specific Lebanese reference. Given the particular wording of lebanese advertisements, a dialectic is established between that language and the universal language used for publicity

The use of phrasemes is text-sort specific and provides added thematic reference to the relevant topic under discussion. In television journalism, the bilingual, French-German public affairs program Arte-Info is exceptional due to a particular feature of its journalistic format. Individual images are accompanied by to sound and, above all, linguistic tracks. Given this bilingual quality, variuos issues related to the program's inter-lingual format arise (translation and interpreting procedure, source and target language, orientation toward two linguistic communities, etc. ). What effects do these factors have on the production of the linguistic discourse? This study has been organized according to three parameters of analysis: parameter one concerns the specifics of the various sorts of texts; parameter two is addressed to the framing context of the entire discourse; the third parameter deals with the specifics of thematic reference

Texto completo da fonteThe studied ivory, bone and antler artifacts from the Canadian Arctic, only correspond to harpoon heads that served to build the Palaeo-Eskimo chronology (~ 4000-500 B.P.). To ascertain the chronological subdivision between the Pre-Dorset and Dorset cultures a typological study associated with a technological approach was performed. Palaeo-Eskimo technological and economical practices have been derived from the study of six sites located around the Foxe Basin: Igloolik region (Parry Hill, Lyon Hill, Jens Munk, Freuchen and Kaersut sites) and northern Nunavik (Tayara site). The assumption of a Pre-Dorset/Dorset continuum could be confirmed. The observed evolution of osseous industries during Palaeo-Eskimo period (and more precisely the Pre-Dorset/Dorset transition) has been interpreted in terms of socio-cultural changes. The observed technological changes (i.e. harpoon head hafting) could be associated with new patterns of raw material exploitation (diversification in the selection of materials and anatomical elements, as well as functional categories). They testify to the important socio-cultural changes (collective rather than individual hunting) already observed in the settlement patterns (aggregation of the humans in larger houses for longer time periods). Texto completo da fonteThis research is mainly aimed at giving a contribute to the stabilization of the cinematographic instrument inside geography. It will particularly be focused on three possible ways to use movies within the geographical studies: movies as a representation of space, as imagination of places and, finally, as a conceptual example. The research will essentially be centered on the imagination of urban spaces in the catastrophic movies and particularly on the capability they might have to give urban spaces a new system of visibility. The corpus of the analysis is formed of sixty-two movies, mostly deriving from science fiction. From this perspective, the initial idea is to combine the temporal dimension, which is at the basis of science fiction (especially the ideas of the future) with the spatial dimension personified by urban spaces. The first relation between this imagination and the urban realities feeds on a “crisologic” interpretation: these movies help to stabilize a diegetic universe which is full of several pathologies that have been distressing the urban development for the last 50 years. Conversely, the last point will aim at widening the scope of the previous considerations. The imagination of catastrophes and their increasing success will be included in the contemporary Zeitraumgeist (“spirit of time and space”). I will particularly concentrate on a possible change inside our relation to space and time. In this context, the framework of reference will be the concept of modernity which is here considered, among the many meanings, as an essentially time-space experience. The conclusion will lead to develop the hypothesis of a “neo-modernity”, a neologism that is used to define the inner changes in our way to experiencing time (past, present, future) and the urban space

Texto completo da fonteThe settlement of the populations of the iberian peninsula may have known, in the middle ages, a noticeable evolution, likely to have been influenced by "orientalism", especially in the way of life of these mostly rural populations. The archeological study of such an area as shark al andalus - allows to gather information from arabic and christian sources or provided by more than 300 dwelling or defense sites. The methods of extensive archeology have been privileged on account of the amopunt of documentation. The islamic conquest has doubly marked the transition centuries from late antiquity to the middle ages, characterized by a situation of demographic decrease, as well as economic depression : firstly, the arrival of populations, most of them coming from berber north africa -this arrival seemingly going on after 711-713- secondly, mediterranean features brought in or emphasized by the islamic conquerors. Therefore, considering the still imperfectly known archeological reality of the islamic area of levante, this work intends to describe the settlement (houses and villages) of shark al andalous and more generally its organization (soils and territories). This study also includes on one hand a brief survey of the changes caused by the christian conquest in the xiiith century and on the other hand the permanence of the previous forms of dwelling, up to 1609, when the "morisco" populations were expelled

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis studies the discourses and the strategies of the media when reporting armed conflicts. The comparison between the Israeli-Palistinian and the Northern-Irish conflicts enable us to analyze the nature of the discourses produced by the political actors and by the media, and to foresee their potential evolution with the development of the internet. In situations of armed crisis, State and media logics tend to tighten in the name of a democratic consensus against the authors of the violence. However, the media representations sometimes get loose from the official discourse of the State, in order to keep the freedom of information. This alternative must be rethought with the broadening of the use of the internet by various actors of the conflicts. The specificity of its technical device invites the actors of the conflicts to seize this media in discursive logics, if not new, at least different from those of the traditional media. The hypertextual and multimodal nature of the discourses which the political actors offer on internet thus implies to rethink the discursive strategies, traditionally in work, and the connections between media and actors in the situations of conflict

Texto completo da fonteIn France, neo-liberalism became dominant in the political sphere in the early 1980s. However, to the defender of neo-liberalism, there is still one last goal : to get public opinion to endorse neo-liberalism as well. The general media, which is able to influence our perceptions and our preferences, can play an important role in that respect. This thesis presents four monographs analyzing the media's discourse on neo-liberalism in the past two decades: the first monographs analyzing the media's discourse on neo-liberalism in the past two decades : the first monograph treats of the media coverage of the Paris Mont Pèlerin meeting in 1984; the second monograph deals with the way the French newspaper "Le Monde" covered the bicentennial of the French Revolution between 1987 and 1989; the third monograph examines the same newspaper's coverage of the opening up of France Telecom's capital in 1997; finally, the last monograph looks at the way "Les Grandes Gueules", a radio show broadcasted on RMC, elaborated a neo-liberalism discourse over the fall of 2006

Texto completo da fonteSocial media have greatly modified the way we produce, diffuse and consume information, and have become powerful information vectors. The goal of this thesis is to help in the understanding of the information diffusion phenomenon in social media by providing means of modeling and analysis.First, we propose MABED (Mention-Anomaly-Based Event Detection), a statistical method for automatically detecting events that most interest social media users from the stream of messages they publish. In contrast with existing methods, it doesn't only focus on the textual content of messages but also leverages the frequency of social interactions that occur between users. MABED also differs from the literature in that it dynamically estimates the period of time during which each event is discussed rather than assuming a predefined fixed duration for all events. Secondly, we propose T-BASIC (Time-Based ASynchronous Independent Cascades), a probabilistic model based on the network structure underlying social media for predicting information diffusion, more specifically the evolution of the number of users that relay a given piece of information through time. In contrast with similar models that are also based on the network structure, the probability that a piece of information propagate from one user to another isn't fixed but depends on time. We also describe a procedure for inferring the latent parameters of that model, which we formulate as functions of observable characteristics of social media users. Thirdly, we propose SONDY (SOcial Network DYnamics), a free and extensible software that implements state-of-the-art methods for mining data generated by social media, i.e. the messages published by users and the structure of the social network that interconnects them. As opposed to existing academic tools that either focus on analyzing messages or analyzing the network, SONDY permits the joint analysis of these two types of data through the analysis of influence with respect to each detected event. The experiments, conducted on data collected on Twitter, demonstrate the relevance of our proposals and shed light on some properties that give us a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying information diffusion. First, we compare the performance of MABED against those of methods from the literature and find that taking into account the frequency of social interactions between users leads to more accurate event detection and improved robustness in presence of noisy content. We also show that MABED helps with the interpretation of detected events by providing clearer textual description and more precise temporal descriptions. Secondly, we demonstrate the relevancy of the procedure we propose for estimating the pairwise diffusion probabilities on which T-BASIC relies. For that, we illustrate the predictive power of users' characteristics, and compare the performance of the method we propose to estimate the diffusion probabilities against those of state-of-the-art methods. We show the importance of having non-constant diffusion probabilities, which allows incorporating the variation of users' level of receptivity through time into T-BASIC. We also study how -- and in which proportion -- the social, topical and temporal characteristics of users impact information diffusion. Thirdly, we illustrate with various scenarios the usefulness of SONDY, both for non-experts -- thanks to its advanced user interface and adapted visualizations -- and for researchers -- thanks to its application programming interface

Texto completo da fonteWe will try all along this thesis to lift the veil on the vague aspects of a complex industry: medias, in a country with an even more complex political and economic environment: China. After defining de concept of media convergence, we will see what are its different forms in the Middle Kingdom in comparison with Western countries. We will explain the reasons why China is naturally taking its own path and not necessarily following the Western models, especially in the media industry. We will then show how the convergence influences one industry in particular: the film industry; how all the links of the value chain from investment to production and distribution are affected by the constant evolution of the new media technologies and how they merge with each other. By reviewing the different laws and other instructions that are supposed to rule the film media industry, but also by analyzing the complex flows between China and the rest of the world that the government tries to control, we will show how much is at stake in this huge market. We will present the main actors of this convergence in China comparing them particularly with the American giant Netflix. How these internet giants transform today’s film industry? This is the question we will try to answer all along this research

Texto completo da fonteArchaeology has found a place in the movement creating museums that followed the French revolution and napoleon's conquests. Very soon, a gaff became evident between the research and presentations of classical and extra national archaeology supported by the state on the one hand and national archaeology supported by "societes savantes" and local councils on the other hand. Besides, as for back as the end of the 19 th century the presentation of museums did not keep place with the result of research; this phenomenum was reinforced in world wars. Despite all the efforts made during the past few years, the evaluation drawn around the year 1980 shows the health of the problems experienced by museums which have archaeological collections. However the potentialities that the latter offer to research and the diffusion of its results are enormous. Moreover the success encountered among the population and its leaders keeps increasing nowadays and the public touched by museums is growing larger. Therefore a propitious context presents itself for the recival of the too long underprivileged institution: the museum. Texto completo da fonteSince it's discovery 1945, the Neolithic site of Villeneuve-Tolosane and Cugnaux (France) has been the subject of a series of excavations. These excavations revealed evidence of several successive chassean establishments (4500-3500 BC. ) revealing, in particular, structures of enclosures. The exhaustive study of documentation concerning the recognized ditches and palisades and the typological analysis of the important series of vestiges resulting from these structures made it possible to highlight various phases of occupations corresponding to the succession of several enclosures. Finally, the analysis of the total available documented evidence has allowed us to specify the nature and purpose of the various activities carried out on the site. The site appear, as a result of this study, like a vast village that has known several phases of occupation of which two, at least, are clearly associated with fortified systems

Texto completo da fonteThe superposition of temporalities, like archaeological strata, is a phenomenon that affects every space and city. In Mexico City, it has become a powerful literary motif, and has been particularly recurrent in the Mexican literature of the last seventy years. The destruction of México-Tenochtitlan in the wake of the conquest and the subsequent rebuilding of New Spain’s capital city on its ruins constitute a major historical turn. Mexica stones, once reshaped, serve as the foundations and material of the newbuilt “Novohispana” colonial city, suggesting an essential continuity between the two cities. The Mexican city thus enjoys the fascinating aura of vanished civilisations. Its influence on contemporary Mexican culture also inspires the idea of an atavistic permanence, triggering the resurgence of vengeful pre-Hispanic myths. The first demolition would be the starting point for a series of drastic changes that the city has undergone through time, as if shedding skins. Mexican writers preserve the traces of these bygone cities, which eventually accumulate in an intertextual palimpsest. The successive re-elaborations of the literary motif of superposition of temporalities are sedimented as, since Carlos Fuentes’s early works, generations pass by. In a city criss-crossed by major archaeological excavations, we propose a literary archaeology through Mexico City’s historical and literary diachronic depths. Beyond the reminiscence of a past that was buried alive, we are to find how distinct legacies that gave birth to both the city and the nation are questioned, in particular its dual pre-Columbian and Spanish roots
