This study aimed to evaluate chemical properties and yield of charcoal from two Eucalyptus urophylla clones considering the first and second rotation of the wood. The study was carried out with material from Arcelor Mittal Jequitinhonha, with a mean age of 61.5 months. The values of fixed carbon, volatile materials, ash content, higher calorific value, gravimetric yield, liquid yield and gas yield were determined. The data were analyzed statistically by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and significant differences were compared by the Tukey test (p <0.05). The results showed significant differences for the fixed carbon contents (67% and 70.5%) and volatile materials (32% and 29%) of clones AEC 0182 and AEC 0296, respectively. The analysis of the results showed that both the first and second rotation woods have satisfactory characteristics for charcoal production and are not influenced by the effect of the rotations.

This paper presents a strategy of the cooling parameters selection in the process of continuous steel casting. Industrial tests were performed at a slab casting machine at the Arcelor Mittal Poland Unit in Krakow. The tests covered 55 heats for 7 various steel grades. Based on the existing casting technology a numerical model of the continuous steel casting process was formulated. The numerical calculations were performed for three casting speeds - 0.6, 0.8 and 1 m min-1. An algorithm was presented that allows us to compute the values of the heat transfer coefficients for the secondary cooling zone. The correctness of the cooling parameter strategy was evaluated by inspecting the shell thickness, the length of the liquid core and the strand surface temperature. The ProCAST software package was used to construct the numerical model of continuous casting of steel.

Abstract Discussed problems are solved in Arcelor Mittal Ostrava a.s. company. VSB-TU Ostrava has its share on this solution in the frame of grant project TIP. The project has several goals, which relate with primary cooling system area in CSCD (Continuous Steel Casting Device). One target is concerned about surface quality of crystallizer’s desks, also from point of view of its quality evaluation.in terms of project solution was solved a crystallizer’s desks defects catalogue and methodology of their evaluation. Also was made methodology for quality evaluation of narrow crystallizer’s desks, which are dismantled in maintenance area. There were proposed a laser scanning of the crystallizer’s desks surface with usage of Laser sensor. In cooperation with DASFOS CZ, s.r.o. was proposed new method of inner crystallizer’s chamber measuring. In this paper are presented partial results of this solution, including first results from prototyped measuring device.

The controlled lamination of thick sheets involves the use of algorithms for choosing the rolling parameters: the initial heating temperature, the lamination scheme (the distribution of the total thickness reduction on each rolling cage, the number of passes through each cage and the distribution of the thickness reduction on each passage, intermediate cooling - cooling time and speed), and the temperature of the product obtained at the end of the rolling. The complexity of the phenomena, which occur during the hot plastic deformation process and which must be sufficiently well mastered in order to obtain reproducibly the technical specifications imposed on the products with different destinations, is the justification for this work. The data provided by Arcelor-Mittal Galati was used to obtain the mathematical model. Equations that correlate the main mechanical characteristics with the chemical composition of the steel and the parameters of the hot rolling pattern used are presented.

Alliance Networks: the Case of Multinational CorporationsThe article deals with the problems of cooperation in network organizations. The structure of the text is divided into a couple of parts. Firstly, the increasing importance of alliance networks is described. Secondly, the concept of alliance networks as well as the essence of multinational corporations are presented. Beside theoretical deliberations, two practical cases are presented in the text too. First case relates to the Toyota keiretsu and the second one describes the network organization of the largest steel manufacturer in the world, i.e. ArcelorMittal Group. Last part of the text is the comparative analysis of the multinational corporations network vs. networks of small and medium size companies. The similarities as well as differences between both forms were presented. The article is based on the latest world literature devoted to the cooperative strategies as well as the practical business experience of the author from the work in Arcelor Mittal Poland and polish machine industry.

A continuous adsorption study in a fixed-bed column was carried out using granulated slag (GS) as an adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. The effects of various parameters, such as initial dye concentration, flow rate, bed depth, and pH were investigated. Obtained results confirmed that the breakthrough time and exhaustion time were dependent on these factors. The adsorption capacity of GS was calculated at the 50% breakthrough point for different conditions. The highest breakthrough capacity (q,exp = 0.296 mg.g–1) was obtained with a 15 cm bed height and a 2 mL.min–1 rate by using a 10 mg.L–1 initial MB concentration at pH 7.5. Bohart–Adams, Bed Depth Service Time (BDST), and Thomas models were applied to experimental data to determine the characteristic parameters of the column. The Thomas model was found suitable for the description of the whole breakthrough curve, while the Bohart–Adams model was only used to predict the initial part of the dynamic process. The data were in good agreement with the BDST model. Thus, the granulated slag can be used as an adsorbent in the treatment of wastewater. Desorption was carried out with a deionized water as the desorbing agent, and reuse study was investigated.

In the article, the authors present the results of assessing the quality and safety of milk and beef meat in various districts of the Karaganda region. The following studies were carried out: organoleptic and physico-chemical indicators; the total toxicity and residual amount of heavy metal compounds were determined; the quality and safety of livestock products from various areas of the study area were assessed; organoleptic and physico–chemical indicators of milk and beef meat were carried out; the dynamics of seasonal accumulation of residual amounts of heavy metal compounds in milk and beef was also established. An integral part of national and international health protection programs is to ensure the safety of food products that are subject to anthropogenic impact. Toxins of microorganisms (including fungi), toxic elements (heavy elements), antibiotics, pesticides, nitrates, nitrites, dioxins and dioxin-like compounds, radionucleides. According to the ecological situation, the Karaganda region is one of the ecologically unfavorable territories of our country. This is due to the large concentration of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, energy complexes and other industrial objects, such as Arcelor Mittal Temirtau and Kazakhmys. Therefore, the study of the influence of environmental factors on the quality of livestock.

This is due to the large concentration of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, energy complexes and other industrial objects, such as Arcelor Mittal Temirtau and Kazakhmys. From the atmosphere, toxic substances enter the soil and penetrate it directly or with precipitation. Therefore, the study of the influence of environmental factors on feed in the conditions of the Karaganda region is of great practical and theoretical importance.

L'articolo esplora il rapporto contraddittorio tra esperienza operaia dell'ecologia e ambientalismo del lavoro nel caso studio dell'Italsider/(ex)Ilva di Taranto, sulla base metodologica dell'etnografia sociale. La tesi di fondo è che una nuova analisi – qualitativa e storiograficamente solida – di tale, complessa relazione renda possibile da un lato destrutturare l'opposizione, apparentemente naturale, tra occupazione e salute, e dall'altro aprire scenari inediti per lo sviluppo di un diverso punto di vista del lavoro sulla crisi ecologica. La struttura dell'articolo è la seguente: il primo paragrafo situa la ricerca da un punto di vista teorico, sullo sfondo di un campo di indagine emergente, quello degli environmental labour studies (§1). Il secondo paragrafo esplicita la metodologia (§2). I successivi prendono in esame due fasi dello sviluppo industrial-siderurgico di Taranto – la gestione pubblica (§3) e quella privata, durante la quale la crisi eco-sanitaria deflagra (§4) – nel tentativo di articolare il rapporto elusivo e non-lineare tra esperienza operaia dell'ecologia e ambientalismo del lavoro – fino all'accordo con Arcelor Mittal del settembre 2018, a partire dal quale si apre una vicenda in gran parte diversa. A essa fanno brevemente cenno le conclusioni, richiamando le vicende più recenti e abbozzando possibili linee di ricerca futura.

A través de una investigación explorativa, documental y de campo, sobre este tipo de aplicación, así como de las empresas que cuentan con esta tecnología en la Lázaro Cárdenas y en particular en Arcelor Mittal-México, se obtuvo que la mejor tecnología que existe para la administración de negocios, así como el uso de las mejores prácticas es la utilización de sistemas ERP a fin de hacer frente a la competencia y a la globalización por las facilidades que permite en todo tipos de escenarios de operación de modelos de negocio. Con este tipo de tecnologías permiten obtener la información “on-line”, Jerarquía de la información é integración entre todas las operaciones de la organización. La falta de un sistema ERP propicia que se presenten más rápidamente y en mayor ó menor medida las siguientes situaciones que son difíciles de afrontar por el alto costo que eso significa, como es: Obsolescencia de tecnología de información Cambio continuo de las prácticas de negocio por factores externos legales ó regulaciones comerciales Desarticulación de los sistemas de negocio con los sistemas de proceso Actualización en los niveles de competencia del personal de sistemas y del usuario Desarticulación de la tecnología de la información con los planes estratégicos de la organización.

Detailed analysis of appearance and relief evolution in mining areas cannot be done without mining engineering concepts. Over time, researchers around the world have responsibly been involved in this matter necessary for the development of society, also with obvious implications and repercussions over the quality of life. The purpose of the scientific research detailed in this paper comprises in monitoring the slag dump from Buituri, Hunedoara County using space geodetic technology. Slag dump is the result of steel production activities carried out under the steel factory Arcelor Mittal Hunedoara S.A., formerly known as the steel factory Hunedoara - Siderurgica S.A. Therefore it was decided to conduct monthly topographic measurements to monitor possible dynamic changes that may appear in the context of continuous exploitation of the above mentioned slag dump. Monitoring possible movements is performed by comparing transversal and longitudinal profiles drawn based on zero measurement carried out on 20.05.2011, with the ones obtained after processing of the monthly measurements realized throughout the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Also, for observing the displacements, comparative charts or tables with records regarding coordinates differences are studied. The issue of measuring and graphic representation of settlements, horizontal linear movements and landslides for structures such as slag or sterile dumps, requires further studies and interdisciplinary research, creating links between specialists in the fields of terrestrial measurements science and geology.

RESUMOUm importante aspecto a ser considerado na produção de carvão vegetal é o longo período de resfriamento dos fornos de alvenaria, acarretando na baixa produtividade e exigindo maior número de fornos para suprir a demanda de produção. Pesquisas têm sido desenvolvidas para a redução do tempo de resfriamento dos fornos retangulares, utilizando trocadores de calor. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar três modelos de trocadores de calor que promovam a redução significativa do tempo de resfriamento. A pesquisa foi realizada na unidade produtora de carvão vegetal Buritis, da Empresa Arcelor Mittal Bioflorestas, localizada na cidade de Martinho Campos, MG. Foram avaliados três diferentes trocadores de calor (Modelos 1, 2 e 3), determinando o tempo, em dias, que os fornos retangulares levavam para atingir a temperatura de 50 ºC em relação ao resfriamento natural. O Modelo 1 apresentou ganho real no tempo de resfriamento de 12,5%; o Modelo 2, ganho real de 38%; e o Modelo 3, com fluxo de gás convencional, apresentou ganho médio de 32%, enquanto no fluxo de gás invertido o ganho foi de 43%. Conclui-se que os trocadores de calor avaliados foram eficientes na redução do tempo de resfriamento dos fornos retangulares para produção de carvão vegetal, elevando, assim, a produtividade dos fornos. O trocador de calor Modelo 3, com fluxo de gás invertido, apresentou o maior ganho real no tempo de resfriamento, além do menor número de focos de incêndio durante o descarregamento do carvão vegetal.

Ce texte présente deux visions complémentaires de la sidérurgie en France, du XIXe siècle à nos jours, au travers de deux approches, l’une d’économie historique et l’autre d’histoire des entreprises. La première partie rappelle comment le secteur a évolué sur cette longue période et quels ont été les moteurs du changement historique et les acteurs. C’est la nature des ressources énergétiques et minières, qui a piloté les transformations. Depuis l’arrivée (l’invention) à la fin du 19e siècle des procédés de production d’acier liquide (procédés Martin et Bessemer), la sidérurgie a quitté les forêts et le bord des rivières pour s’installer sur les gisements de charbon et de minerai, mais elle a fini par s’installer après la Seconde Guerre mondiale en bord de mer : changements de localisation géographique majeurs ! Les liens entre la sidérurgie française et l’état ont été très intimes du fait des deux guerres mondiales, où de profondes réorganisations ont eu lieu, et de la fin des trente glorieuses, où le secteur a été nationalisé pour éviter son effondrement. L’Europe aussi a entretenu des liens étroits avec la sidérurgie avec la création de la CEC puis le plan Davignon. Mais l’OPA de Mittal sur Arcelor a précipité la fin de l’intervention de l’état et de d’Europe. La seconde partie, propose des modèles qui expliquent cette évolution. Au départ, il y a les modèles de Schumpeter, qui décrivent le développement de l’innovation des industries dans le système capitaliste, au rythme de cycles de longue période. Puis elle présente la vision de Chandler, qui explique que l’organisation des firmes s’est déroulée dans tous les secteurs et partout dans le monde selon une succession de schémas, en U puis en M et en H. D’un contrôle familial et patrimonial on est passé à un modèle où des experts, ingénieurs et managers, ont pris le contrôle. L’internationalisation, à laquelle on vient d’assister (Mittal, Tata), montre qu’un retour en arrière est possible. La sidérurgie peut-elle encore changer de façon fondamentale, en particulier la sidérurgie française ? Cela sera-t-il déclenché par la lutte contre le réchauffement global ?

This article examines the content of heavy metals in the soil, the characteristics of surface reservoirs, the level of emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air in urban and rural areas of the Karaganda region. The results of studying the peculiarities of morbidity of the population by classes of diseases living in various microclimatic conditions for 2011-2021 are considered. Correlation analysis revealed statistically significant positive reliable links between the level of lead in the soil and diseases of the blood, hematopoietic organs and individual disorders involving the immune mechanism (r=0,609 (р=0,028)), the level of copper in the soil and diseases of the genitourinary system (r=0,567 (p=0,049)), diseases of the ear and mastoid process (r=0,633 (p=0,028)); the level of SO₂ in the atmospheric air and diseases of the eyes (r=0,633 (p=0,028)), skin and subcutaneous tissue (r=0,567 (p=0,049)), ear and mastoid process (r=0,633 (p=0,028)); the level of NO₂ in the atmospheric air and diseases of the circulatory system (r=0,567 (p=0,049)), endocrine diseases (r=0,700 (p=0,015)); the level of dust, suspended solids and diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (r=0,618 (p=0,033)), infectious and parasitic diseases (r=0,618 (p=0,033)). The highest incidence rates were noted in the cities of Zhezkazgan, Karaganda, Temirtau, Shakhtinsk, Abay and Nurinsky district, Karkaraly district, Abai district of Karaganda region with the harmful effects of potential production factors of industrial enterprises of the mining and metallurgical industry Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, Arcelor Mittal JSC, Balkhash Mining and Metallurgical Combine.

The purpose of the study is an experimental determination of the stress-related characteristics of the structural steel produced in the Republic of Kazakhstan for use in conventional and earthquake-resistive construction. Since 2015, the construction industry has been using European regulatory documents—Eurocodes—as a statutory framework. In particular, the Eurocode 1993 for steel structures and the Eurocode 1998 for the design of earthquake-resistant structures However, the study of stress-related properties of structural steel using experimental methods of ISO standards has not been performed. Therefore, in the construction industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, steel-work structures have been used in fairly limited volume since 2015. The experimental studies were conducted on 7 types of structural steel with thicknesses of 8, 10, and 20 mm manufactured by Arcelor Mittal. The yield strength, ultimate tensile strength (breaking stress), and tensile strength at break were studied. The experimental studies were carried out on the basis of ISO standards. In each test run, 5 samples were used. In two series, 20 samples each were tested, which made it possible to estimate the yield strength and strength distribution functions. The correlation relationships between Brinell hardness and yield and strength limits have been studied. As a result of experimental studies, it was found that the strength and deformability parameters fully comply with the requirements of Eurocode 1993. Based on the application of the Student's test, it is revealed that the distribution functions of yield strength and resistance correspond to the normal law (Gaussian function). The calculation of a three-story, two-span residential building with box section columns for construction in an area with a seismicity of 8 points is performed by the finite element method. The work results will significantly increase the scope of Kazakhstani structural steel use in seismic and conventional areas of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since the start of the 21st century, acquisitions have become an elite pattern in the worldwide steel industry. This is clearly evident from the inexorably developing number of deals through mergers & acquisitions coming about with increasingly corporate combination particularly with existing endeavor of extreme globalization. Indian steel organizations have developed among the biggest steel makers on the planet by keeping their impression in worldwide steel map. Some Indian organizations like Mittal steel, Tata steel, have made noteworthy abroad acquisitions including Arcelor by Mittal, and Corus by Tata steel as endeavors to internationalize their activities, by dissecting the serious elements on the worldwide stage. The case study revolves around the key intention drivers and assesses the effect of Corus acquisition by Tata steel from being seen as a success win arrangement. This contextual analysis depends on auxiliary information including organization reports, money related exhibitions, papers articles, magazines, and the web. This case has been investigated from two alternate points of view i.e., the vital methodology and the monetary methodology. Since the examination depends on auxiliary information, it has its own limitations as far as those viewpoints which are not revealed by the organizations and the other data which however are in the public domains have certain biasness connected.

AbstractEvery year, the steelmaking industry produces millions of tons of slags resulting in pollution to the environment. Among the waste, secondary metals and scales rich in iron oxides are also thrown away. There is a need to treat the steel waste in a reasonably way to protect the environment and proposing new cheap technologies for producing advanced materials. In this study we report the morphological and structural characterization of waste scales generated during roll milling steel process at JSC “Arcelor Mittal Temirtau”. The raw slag and annealed at 1000 °C were measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy adapted with energy dispersive X-ray (SEM- EDX), magnetometry and Mössbauer Spectroscopy (MS). Fe and O were detected by EDX as main chemical elements and Si, S, Ca, Mg, C and Al as minimal elemental composition. XDR for the raw sample revealed α-Fe2O3 (hematite) and Fe3O4 (magnetite) as principal and secondary phase, respectively; whereas monophasic α-Fe2O3 is detected for the scales annealed at 1000 °C. Magnetometry measurements show the Verwey transition for the raw sample and the Morin transition for the annealed at 1000 °C; those are fingerprints for the presence of magnetite and hematite, respectively. MS measurements for the raw sample consist of 6 small peaks of absorption and a broad two-lines absorption peak in the central part. The doublets are associated to the hyperfine parameters belonging to wustite. Magnetite is related to the hyperfine parameters for two sextets in octahedral Fe2.5+ and tetrahedral Fe3+sites and a small sextet that resembles the Mössbauer parameters of α-Fe2O3. Only a well crystallized and weakly ferromagnetic sextet confirm the presence of α-Fe2O3 phase for the sample annealed at 1000 °C due to thermal oxidation.
