The Anshan–Benxi area, situated in the northeast of the North China Craton (NCC), is home to not only the oldest rocks in China (~3.8 Ga) but also a diverse range of granitoids dated between 3.8 and 2.5 Ga. The Lianshanguan batholith, covering an area of approximately 250 km2 with an east–west trend, predominantly consists of syenogranites (K2O > 4 wt. % and K2O/Na2O ratios > 1.3). Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) U-Pb analyses of the two syenogranites yielded concordant ages of 2541 ± 22 and 2512 ± 13 Ma, respectively. These syenogranites had zircon εHf(t) values ranging from −20 to +4.9 with two-stage Hf model ages (TDM2(Hf)) spanning 3.9–2.7 Ga. Based on petrological, geochemical, and isotopic characteristics, we conclude that the Lianshanguan syenogranites are mainly resulted from the reworking of complicated Eoarchean–Mesoarchean crustal materials, possibly with a small proportion of ~2.7 Ga juvenile crustal materials. When compared with coeval syenogranites from the Northern Liaoning and Western Liaoning–Eastern Hebei areas, ~2.5 Ga syenogranites from the Anshan–Benxi area displayed more complicated TDM2(Hf) ages, hinting at a pronounced late Neoarchean reworking of the Eoarchean to Mesoarchean continental crust (including metasedimentary sources) primarily in the Anshan–Benxi region of the North China Craton. This scenario significantly bolsters the arc–continent collision model.

Mining can provide necessary mineral resources for humans. However, mining activities may cause damage to the surrounding ecology and environment. Vegetation change analysis is a key tool for evaluating damage to ecology and the environment. Liaoning is one of the major mining provinces in China, with rich mineral resources and long-term, high-intensity mining activities. Taking Liaoning Province as an example, vegetation change in six mining areas was investigated using multisource remote sensing data to evaluate ecological and environmental changes. Based on MODIS NDVI series data from 2000 to 2019, change trends of vegetation were evaluated using linear regression. According to the results, there are large highly degraded vegetation areas in the Anshan, Benxi, and Yingkou mining areas, which indicates that mining activities have seriously damaged the vegetation in these areas. In contrast, there are considerable areas with improved vegetation in the Anshan, Fushun, and Fuxin mining areas, which indicates that ecological reclamation has played a positive role in these areas. Based on Sentinel-2A data, leaf chlorophyll content was inferred by using the vegetation index MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI) after measurement of leaf spectra and chlorophyll content were carried out on the ground to validate the performance of MTCI. According to the results, the leaf chlorophyll content in the mines is generally lower than in adjacent areas in these mining areas with individual differences. In the Yingkou mining area, the chlorophyll content in adjacent areas is close to the magnesite mines, which means the spillover effect of environmental pollution in mines should be considerable. In the Anshan, Benxi, and Diaobingshan mining areas, the environmental stress on adjacent areas is slight. All in all, iron and magnesite open-pit mines should be monitored closely for vegetation destruction and stress due to the high intensity of mining activities and serious pollution. In contrast, the disturbance to vegetation is limited in resource-exhausted open-pit coal mines and underground coal mines. It is suggested that land reclamation should be enhanced to improve the vegetation in active open-pit mining areas, such as the Anshan, Benxi, and Yingkou mining areas. Additionally, environmental protection measures should be enhanced to relieve vegetation stress in the Yingkou mining area.

Resumo:
The central Liaoning urban agglomeration is an important heavy industry development base in China, and also an important part of the economy in northeast China. The atmospheric environmental problems caused by the development of heavy industry are particularly prominent. Trajectory clustering, potential source contribution (PSCF), and concentration weighted trajectory (CWT) analysis are used to discuss the temporal and spatial pollution characteristics of PM2.5 and ozone concentrations and reveal the regional atmospheric transmission pattern in central Liaoning urban agglomeration from 2015 to 2020. The results show that: (1) PM2.5 in the central Liaoning urban agglomeration showed a decreasing trend from 2015 to 2020. The concentration of PM2.5 is the lowest in 2018. Except for Benxi (34.7 µg/m3), the concentrations of PM2.5 in other cities do not meet the standard in 2020. The ozone concentration in Anshan, Liaoyang, and Shenyang reached the peaks in 2017, which are 68.76 µg/m3, 66.27 µg/m3, and 63.46 µg/m3 respectively. PM2.5 pollution is the highest in winter and the lowest in summer. The daily variation distribution of PM2.5 concentration showed a bimodal pattern. Ozone pollution is the most serious in summer, with the concentration of ozone reaching 131.14 µg/m3 in Shenyang. Fushun is affected by Shenyang intercity pollution, and the ozone concentration is high. (2) In terms of spatial distribution, the high values of PM2.5 are concentrated in monitoring stations in urban areas. On the contrary, the concentration of ozone in suburban stations is higher. The high concentration of ozone in the northeast of Anshan, Liaoyang, Shenyang to Tieling, and Fushun extended in a band distribution. (3) Through cluster analysis, it is found that PM2.5 and ozone in Shenyang are mainly affected by short-distance transport airflow. In winter, the weighted PSCF high-value area of PM2.5 presents as a potential contribution source zone of the northeast trend with wide coverage, in which the contribution value of the weighted CWT in the middle of Heilongjiang is the highest. The main potential source areas of ozone mass concentration in spring and summer are coastal cities and the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. We conclude that the regional transmission of pollutants is an important factor of pollution, so we should pay attention to the supply of industrial sources and marine sources of marine pollution in the surrounding areas of cities, and strengthen the joint prevention and control of air pollution among regions. The research results of this article provide a useful reference for the central Liaoning urban agglomeration to improve air quality.

Anshan-Benxi area in Liaoning province is an important banded iron formations (BIFs) ore-mining district in China. Chlorite is widely distributed in this area, which is related to BIFs and high-grade iron ore, respectively. A fast and convenient method to identify the type and spatial distribution of different chlorites is crucial to the evaluation of high-grade iron ore in this area. Qidashan iron mine is a typical BIFs deposit, and its BIFs-related high-grade iron ore reserves are the second largest in the area. In this paper, the laboratory-based HySpex-320m hyperspectral imaging was used to study the wall rock in Qidashan iron mine. A hyperspectral imaging processing model was established for mineral identification, mineralogy mapping, and chlorite spectral features extraction. The results show that the wavelength positions of OH, Fe-OH, and Mg-OH absorptions of chlorite in the altered wall rock of high-grade iron ore are between 1400 and 1410, 2260 and 2265, and 2360 and 2370 nm, respectively, which are longer than those around BIFs. The relationship between cations in the octahedral layer of chlorite and the wavelengths of OH, Fe-OH, and Mg-OH indicates that Mg and Mg/(Mg + Fe) are inversely related to these wavelengths, whereas Fe is positively related. The wavelengths appear to be weakly influenced by AlVI. Since the bandpass of hyperspectral imaging systems is usually less than 10 nm, these chlorite wavelength differences can be used as a favorable tool for the high-grade iron ore exploration and the iron resources evaluation in the Anshan-Benxi area.

In view of the rapid spread of African swine fever in Mainland China from 2018 to 2019, we used spatiotemporal statistical analysis methods to study the spatiotemporal transmission features of African swine fever. The results reveal that the hot spots of African swine fever were concentrated in some cities in Northeast and Southwest China. Seven spatiotemporal clusters of African swine fever were identified, and the most likely spatiotemporal cluster was located in the Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of QianNan in Guizhou Province, and the cluster date was from 19 June to 25 June 2019. The first secondary cluster covered five cities (Shenyang, Yingkou, Panjin, Anshan, and Liaoyang) in Liaoning Province from 1 August to 10 October 2018. In addition, from the global and local transmission direction and speed of African swine fever in Mainland China, the spatial transmission speed of ASF was found to be slow from August to October 2018, and fast from February to March 2019. Lastly, the global and local isolation and exposure of sites infected with ASF were calculated in Mainland China to reveal the infection risk of different susceptible sites and time periods.

On the basis of MODIS Enhanced Vegetation Index time series data and multisource data, such as nighttime light data and China City Statistical Yearbook data, we investigated the differences in vegetation phenology along urban-rural gradients in urban areas of different sizes between coastal and inland cities in Liaoning Province, China. The results showed that the following: (1) the iterative extraction of urban built-up areas using the threshold method based on nighttime light data combined with the definition of urban built-up areas had high accuracy. (2) Additionally, we found that the start of the growing season (SOS) in Liaoning Province occurred between day 100 and day 180, while the end of the growing season (EOS) occurred between days 260 and 330. The difference in the SOS between coastal cities (i.e., Dalian, Yingkou, Panjin, Jinzhou, Huludao, and Dandong) and inland cities (i.e., Chaoyang, Fuxin, Tieling, Shenyang, Fushun, Liaoyang, Benxi, and Anshan) was 1.70 days. However, the difference in the EOS was more significant, i.e., the EOS in coastal cities occurred 4.47 days later than that in the inland cities. (3) In urban areas of different sizes, the ∆SOS and ∆EOS of inland cities had negative correlations with urban size. Specifically, when the urban size increased 10-fold, the ∆SOS and ∆EOS advanced by 10.03 and 5.71 days, respectively. In contrast, the ∆SOS and ∆EOS of coastal cities had positive and negative correlations with the urban size, respectively. Specifically, when urban size increased 10-fold, ∆SOS was delayed by 11.29 days while EOS was advanced by 8.83 days.

To better understand the source and health risk of metal elements in PM2.5, a field study was conducted from May to December 2018 in the central region of the Liaoning province, China, including the cities of Shenyang, Anshan, Fushun, Benxi, Yingkou, Liaoyang, and Tieling. 24 metal elements (Na, K, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Mo, Cd, Sn, Sb, Pb, Bi, Al, Sr, Mg, Ti, Ca, Fe, Ba, and Si) in PM2.5 were measured by ICP-MS and ICP-OES. They presented obvious seasonal variations, with the highest levels in winter and lowest in summer for all seven cities. The sum of 24 elements were ranged from to in these cities. The element mass concentration ratio was the highest in Yingkou in the spring (26.15%), and the lowest in Tieling in winter (3.63%). The highest values of elements in PM2.5 were mostly found in Anshan and Fushun among the studied cities. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) modelling revealed that coal combustion, industry, traffic emission, soil dust, biomass burning, and road dust were the main sources of measured elements in all cities except for Yingkou. In Yingkou, the primary sources were identified as coal combustion, metal smelting, traffic emission, soil dust, and sea salt. Health risk assessment suggested that Mn had non-carcinogenic risks for both adults and children. As for Cr, As, and Cd, there was carcinogenic risks for adults and children in most cities. This study provides a clearer understanding of the regional pollution status of industrial urban agglomeration.

Nowadays, increases in the scale of guppy (Poecilia reticulata) breeding have been accompanied by increases in the frequency of disease, resulting in economic losses. One such disease, the fester-needle tail disease was notorious. In the current study, an epidemiological investigation was carried out for 1 year, and a total of 138 needle tail cases with obvious symptoms of rot were collected from 5 guppy farms in Anshan and Liaoyang cities in Liaoning Province, China. Microscopic observations excluded fungal and parasitic infections as causes of the disease. Transmission electron microscopy did not detect any viral inclusions in the diseased site. There was a high density of nucleiin the cells, with cells becoming longer and narrower, and containing an increasing number of vesicles. Intotal, 232 bacterial strains were isolated from fish with needle tail disease. Results of 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing, and physiological and biochemical identification showed that Aeromonasspp. accounted for 35.3% of all the isolates, with Aeromonas hydrophila being the most isolated strain; in total 37strains were isolated, accounting for 45.1% of the Aeromonas spp. isolates. A bacterial challenge experiment with A. hydrophila revealed it to be a possible causative agent of fester-needle tail disease. Histopathological observations in the controlled infection showed that epithelial cells in the caudal fin became more compacted, with all cells showing different degrees of karyotheca dissolution. These results provide a reference for further research and scientific control of needle tail disease in this economically important species.© 2021 Friends Science Publishers

The detection and evaluation of concealed mineral resources deep in metallic mines and in the surrounding areas remain technically difficult. In particular, due to the complex topographic and geomorphic conditions on the surface, the detection environments in these areas limit the choices of detection equipment and data collection devices. In this study, based on metallogenic theory and the metallogenic geological characteristics of banded iron formation (BIF)-type iron ores, equipment for surface geophysical surveys (i.e., the high-precision ground magnetic survey method, the transient electromagnetic method, and the magnetotelluric method) and data collection devices capable of taking single-point continuous measurements were employed to detect the concealed iron ore bodies in the transition zone CID-1 between the Hejia and Dumu iron deposits in the Gongchangling iron ore concentration area in the Anshan-Benxi area (Liaoyang, China), a representative area of BIF-type iron ores. The results showed that an optimal combination of these geophysical survey methods accurately determined the anomalous planar spatial locations and anomalous profile morphologies of the concealed iron ore bodies. On this basis, we determined their locations, burial depths, and scales. Two anomalous zones induced by concealed iron ore bodies, YC-1 and YC-2, were discovered in zone CID-1. Two concealed iron-bearing zones, one shallow (0–150 m) and one deep (300–450 m), were found in YC-1. A 100 m scale drilling test showed that the cumulative thickness of the shallow iron-bearing zone was over 23.6 m.

The safety retaining wall is a critical infrastructure in ensuring the safety of both rock removal vehicles and personnel. However, factors such as precipitation infiltration, tire impact from rock removal vehicles, and rolling rocks can cause local damage to the safety retaining wall of the dump, rendering it ineffective in preventing rock removal vehicles from rolling down and posing a huge safety hazard. To address these issues, this study proposed a safety retaining wall health assessment method based on modeling and analysis of UAV point-cloud data of the safety retaining wall of a dump, which enables hazard warning for the safety retaining wall. The point-cloud data used in this study were obtained from the Qidashan Iron Mine Dump in Anshan City, Liaoning Province, China. Firstly, the point-cloud data of the dump platform and slope were extracted separately using elevation gradient filtering. Then, the point-cloud data of the unloading rock boundary was obtained via the ordered crisscrossed scanning algorithm. Subsequently, the point-cloud data of the safety retaining wall were extracted using the range constraint algorithm, and surface reconstruction was conducted to construct the Mesh model. The safety retaining wall mesh model was isometrically profiled to extract cross-sectional feature information and to compare the standard parameters of the safety retaining wall. Finally, the health assessment of the safety retaining wall was carried out. This innovative method allows for unmanned and rapid inspection of all areas of the safety retaining wall, ensuring the safety of rock removal vehicles and personnel.

AbstractAs an important supplement to “location space”, “flow space” has become an important trend in urban network research. At present, the theoretical basis and empirical research of urban network structure from the perspective of “flow space” are not completely clear. Based on the urban spatial network structure research system framework, this paper comprehensively studies the urban spatial structure, spatial network pattern and development mode of Liaoning Province in China by using multivariate data flow. The results show that: (1) Cities at all levels in Liaoning Province have different functions and roles in the urban network level, with Shenyang and Dalian as the leading cities, and Anshan and Jinzhou as “transit hubs”; (2) Liaoning Province takes Shenyang-Dalian as its main axis, the Shenyang economic circle with Shenyang as the core and the coastal economic belt with Dalian as the core and Dandong and Yingkou as the two wings intersect to form the urban spatial network pattern; (3) In the future, Liaoning Province should further form the urban development model of “core city-axis-cluster”. Under the trend of globalization, it should carry out in-depth promotion in combination with “Shenyang Modern Metropolitan Circle” “Liaoning Coastal Economic Belt” and “Liaoning Northwest Strategy”, and finally form a balanced, efficient and comprehensive urban network structure.

Abstract The rise of the land revenue regime in China, characterized by land dispossession in the countryside and land redevelopment in the city, has sparked numerous protests. This study draws attention to the paradox that the regime has helped to mitigate labour unrest, at least temporarily, in China's Rustbelt, where millions of workers were laid-off in the 1990s. Based on field research in Anshan, Liaoning province, and data from other cities in the Rustbelt, this article shows that laid-off workers’ protests persisted much longer than previously thought, largely owing to a lack of local fiscal resources to meet workers’ demands. Only with the growing revenue from land sales in the recent decade has the local government finally been able to ease the tension with laid-off workers. The article argues that bargained authoritarianism, or “buying stability,” widely considered to be an effective strategy by the local state to control social unrest, has its limits, mainly owing to its dependence on local fiscal resources. Recent economic downturns and declining land revenue will disrupt this strategy, leading to protracted protests and struggles in future.

Abstract Background Women with breast cancer are prone to have mental stress and be stimulated by the fear of progression (FOP), then giving rise to a lower quality of life (QOL). The study aimed to examine the relationships between FOP, social support and QOL, and further explore whether social support mediates the association between FOP and QOL among Chinese patients with breast cancer. Methods The cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2019 to May 2020 at Anshan Cancer Hospital in Liaoning, China. 244 female breast cancer patients completed questionnaires including the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy for Breast (FACT-B), Multi-Dimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and Fear of Progression (FOP). Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to assess the associations between FOP, social support and QOL. Asymptotic and resampling strategies were used to explore the mediating role of social support. Results The mean QOL score was 90.6 ± 17.0 among the patients with breast cancer. FOP was negatively correlated with QOL, while social support was positively related to QOL. Social support partly mediated the association between FOP and QOL, and the proportion of the mediating effect accounted for by social support was 25%. Conclusions Chinese breast cancer patients expressed low QOL. Social support could mediate the association between FOP and QOL. Medical staffs and cancer caregivers should alleviate patients’ FOP to improve their QOL by facilitating social support.

In a field survey from 2017 to 2019, Fusarium stalk rot symptoms including discolored, disintegrated stalk pith tissues and lodged plants were observed in maize hybrid lines Fuyu1611, Jidan66, and Danyu8439 grown in fields in Anshan (40o49′39′′N, 122 o34′6′′E), Liaoning province. Its incidence ranged from 15% to 20% and caused a yield loss of up to 30%. Infected pieces of stem tissues were dissected and then sterilized with 1% NaOCl for 1 min, 70% ethanol for 1 min, rinsed 3 times with sterilized ddH2O, and dried with filter paper in hood. Three pieces were placed onto Potato dextrose agar (PDA) and incubated at 25 °C for 5 days. The colonies were single-spore subcultured on PDA at 25 °C for 2 weeks (Leslie and Summerell 2006). Morphological features were observed on PDA and carnation leaf agar (CLA). The average mycelial growth rate was 4.5 to 10.3 mm/day at 25 °C on PDA. The colonies produced aerial mycelia, varying from dense white to grayish-rose, and secreted red pigments in the agar (Fig. 1A; 1B). Macroconidia produced on CLA were long and relatively slender, commonly 4- to 7-septate, averaging 85.6 × 5.2 μm, with thick walls and pronounced dorsiventral curvature with a distinctly foot-shaped and elongated basal cell and an apical cell that was whip-like (Fig. 1C). Microconidia were rarely observed on PDA or CLA. Morphological characteristics of the isolates were similar to the features of Fusarium longipes as previously described (Leslie and Summerell 2006). The portions of three phylogenic loci (EF1-α, RPB1, RPB2) were PCR amplified using the primer pairs EF1/EF2 (O'Donnell et al, 1998), lonR1F/lonR1R (5-TTTTCCTCACCAAGGAGCAGATCATG-3 and 5-CCAATGGACTGGGCAGCCAAAACGCC-3) and lonR2F/lonR2R (5-TATACATTTGCCTCCACTCTTTCCCAT-3 and 5-CGGAGCTTGCGTCCGGTGTGGCCGTTG-3) and sequenced. The consensus sequences were submitted to GenBank (MT513215 and MT997083 for TEF, MT513213 and MT997088 for RPB1; MT513214 and MW020572 for RPB2). BLASTn searches indicated that the nucleotide sequences of the three loci of the two isolates shared 94.52% to 99.69% identity with sequences of F. longipes strains deposited in the GenBank, Fusarium-ID and Fusarium MLST databases (Supplementary Table 1, 3, 4). A phylogram inferred via maximum likelihood analysis of the combined EF-1α, RPB1, RPB2 partial sequence data of Fusarium species (Supplementary Table 2) was inferred using the CIPRIES website (https://www.phylo.org). Isolates LNAS-05-A and LNAS-09-A clustered with F. longipes, with 98% bootstrap support (Fig. 2). Pathogenicity tests were conducted on three-leaf-stage seedlings and flowering-stage c.v. Zhengdan958 and B104 plants according to previously described methods (Ye et al., 2013; Zhang et al. 2016) with minor modifications. Three days after the roots of the seedlings were inoculated with 1 × 106 macroconidia solution, the leaves and stems exhibited typical wilt symptoms (Fig. 1D). Twenty flowering-stage maize plants were drilled individually at the second or third node above the soil using an electric drill (Bosch TSR1080-2-Li) to create a hole (8 mm in diameter). An approximately 0.5 mL mycelia plug (125 mL homogenized hyphal mats + 75 mL sterilized ddH2O) was injected into the hole and covered with Vaseline. Sterilized PDA plugs were used as a control. The stalk tissue of the split internodes turned dark brown and the brown area expanded above and below the injection site by 14 dpi. All of the inoculated plants developed characteristic stalk rot symptoms, whereas no symptoms were observed in the controls (Fig. 1E). The pathogen was re-isolated, and its identity was confirmed by sequencing the above mentioned loci. F. longipes was generally regarded as a tropical Fusarium species (Leslie and Summerell 2006). This is the first report that F. cf. longipes can cause stalk rot of maize under filed condition in a temperate, typical corn belt region of China.
