A research strategy was established to analyze the structure of timber trees in terms of forest productivity (volume and wood density) of 10 species. The native speciesAcacia farnesiana, Acacia schaffneri,Bumelia celastrina,Cercidium macrun,Condalia hookeri,Ebenopsis ebano,Helietta parvifolia, andProsopis laevigataand the exotic speciesEucalyptus camaldulensisandLeucaena leucocephalawere chosen due to their ecological and economic importance to the rural villages of northeastern Mexico. Measurements of different growth parameters and volume of trees were evaluated. The introduced speciesE. camaldulensisandL. leucocephalashowed the best performance in wood volume production per tree and per hectare when compared to the native species. Likewise, among the native species,E. ebano,P. laevigata,C. hookeri, andA. farnesianatended to show better characteristics in terms of wood volume production in comparison toH. parvifolia,A. schaffneri,C. macrum, andB. celastrina. Results showed a high diversity on the properties studied. The high biomass produced by most of the species considered in this study revealed their great energetic potential when used as wood and firewood or vegetal charcoal.

The present study was carried out to investigate the potential ofListeria ivanoviiisolates to exist as biofilm structures. The ability ofListeria ivanoviiisolates to adhere to a surface was determined using a microtiter plate adherence assay whereas the role of cell surface properties in biofilm formation was assessed using the coaggregation and autoaggregation assays. Seven reference bacterial strains were used for the coaggregation assay. The degree of coaggregation and autoaggregation was determined. The architecture of the biofilms was examined under SEM. A total of 44 (88%) strains adhered to the wells of the microtiter plate while 6 (12%) did not adhere. The coaggregation index ranged from 12 to 77% while the autoaggregation index varied from 11 to 55%. The partner strains ofS. aureus,S. pyogenes,P. shigelloides, andS. sonneidisplayed coaggregation indices of 75% each, whileS. Typhimurium,A. hydrophila, andP. aeruginosaregistered coaggregation indices of 67%, 58%, and 50%, respectively. The ability ofL. ivanoviiisolates to form single and multispecies biofilms at 25°C is of great concern to the food industry where these organisms may adhere to kitchen utensils and other environments leading to cross-contamination of food processed in these areas.

We met only a few cases that assessed fair use over ten years since fair use clause were introduced to our copyright act. Therefore, a pile of U.S. fair use cases that have accumulated in the fields of art and technology can be good reference to interpreting our fair use clause. The concept of transformative use bears a significant role in fair use analysis of U.S. case law. The U.S. Supreme Court defines the transformative use as adding new purpose or character to the original works by changing its “expression, meaning or messages”, and accepted the fair use defense in Campbell and Google mainly based on its assessment that the the use was transformative in each case. The role of transformativeness is essential in realization of the purpose of fair use doctrine, i.e., flexibly responding to technological changes in order to provide “breathing room” for freedom of expression. There also exist concerns regarding this concept as increasing vagueness of fair use standards leading to declined predictability, as well as harming carefully designed balance between copyright protection and fair use. Conflicting interests were expressed in a recent case related to a portrait photograph work employed in appropriation art works, Andy Warhol Foundation v. Goldsmith. As the district court and the appellate court arrived at opposite conclusions showing different views on transformativeness of Andy Warhol’s works, the U.S. Supreme Court is to resolve issues regarding limits of transformative use. As reviewed in this article, it was timely and meaningful attempt that the appellate court sought for the balance of conflicting interests of copyright owners and users while paying attention to the relationship between derivative works and transformative use. However, the appellate court decision exposed some limitations in terms of compatibility with the Supreme Court’s standards and its logic of interpretation. The Supreme Court’s decision to be made would have great meaning in modern application of fair use clause, and bring about great impact in the creation of modern art and licensing business. Also, the issues being dealt with in this case bear significance in our own situation where Korean Supreme Court provides no specific standards on the application of our fair use clause which was imported from U.S. copyright law.

We cover surveys and planning covering the process from the review process for evacuation behavior to the formulation of disaster management plans after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. We focus on the community disaster management plan for the Ando district of Otsuchi town in Iwate Prefecture. We also examine processes and methods for transforming review results into documentation planning. Based on findings from a survey on evacuation behavior, we evaluate factors influencing evacuation behavior and analyze findings from a “Survey on the Situation of Death in the Ando District.” Based on results, we discuss workshops held on review meetings on disaster management planning for the Ando district neighborhood association. We close by extracting and summarizing the features and problems of Ando district tsunami disaster management.

ABSTRACTLow-pressure mercury UV (LP-UV) lamps have long been used for bacterial inactivation, but due to certain disadvantages, such as the possibility of mercury leakage, deep-UV-C light-emitting diodes (DUV-LEDs) for disinfection have recently been of great interest as an alternative. Therefore, in this study, we examined the basic spectral properties of DUV-LEDs and the effects of UV-C irradiation for inactivating foodborne pathogens, includingEscherichia coliO157:H7,Salmonella entericaserovar Typhimurium, andListeria monocytogenes, on solid media, as well as in water. As the temperature increased, DUV-LED light intensity decreased slightly, whereas LP-UV lamps showed increasing intensity until they reached a peak at around 30°C. As the irradiation dosage and temperature increased,E. coliO157:H7 andS. Typhimurium experienced 5- to 6-log-unit reductions.L. monocytogeneswas reduced by over 5 log units at a dose of 1.67 mJ/cm2. At 90% relative humidity (RH), onlyE. coliO157:H7 experienced inactivation significantly greater than at 30 and 60% RH. In a water treatment study involving a continuous system, 6.38-, 5.81-, and 3.47-log-unit reductions were achieved inE. coliO157:H7,S. Typhimurium, andL. monocytogenes, respectively, at 0.5 liter per minute (LPM) and 200 mW output power. The results of this study suggest that the use of DUV-LEDs may compensate for the drawbacks of using LP-UV lamps to inactivate foodborne pathogens.

ABSTRACT The ability of phytopathogenic fungi to overcome the chemical defense barriers of their host plants is of great importance for fungal pathogenicity. We studied the role of cyclic hydroxamic acids and their related benzoxazolinones in plant interactions with pathogenic fungi. We identified species-dependent differences in the abilities of Gaeumannomyces graminis var.tritici, Gaeumannomyces graminis var.graminis, Gaeumannomyces graminis var.avenae, and Fusarium culmorum to detoxify these allelochemicals of gramineous plants. The G. graminisvar. graminis isolate degraded benzoxazolin-2(3H)-one (BOA) and 6-methoxy-benzoxazolin-2(3H)-one (MBOA) more efficiently than did G. graminis var.tritici and G. graminis var. avenae. F. culmorum degraded BOA but not MBOA.N-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-malonamic acid andN-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-malonamic acid were the primary G. graminis var. graminis andG. graminis var. tritici metabolites of BOA and MBOA, respectively, as well as of the related cyclic hydroxamic acids. 2-Amino-3H-phenoxazin-3-one was identified as an additional G. graminis var. triticimetabolite of BOA. No metabolite accumulation was detected forG. graminis var. avenae and F. culmorum by high-pressure liquid chromatography. The mycelial growth of the pathogenic fungi was inhibited more by BOA and MBOA than by their related fungal metabolites. The tolerance ofGaeumannomyces spp. for benzoxazolinone compounds is correlated with their detoxification ability. The ability ofGaeumannomyces isolates to cause root rot symptoms in wheat (cultivars Rektor and Astron) parallels their potential to degrade wheat allelochemicals to nontoxic compounds.

The existence of an educational institution is considered to be very influential on the level of understanding and practice of Islamic teachings during the time of Andi Mappanyukki Sultan Ibrahim Kingdom Bone XXXII. This paper tries to trace the role of Andi Mappanyukki Sultan Ibrahim in developing Islamic educational institutions in the Kingdom of Bone and Islamic educational institutions during the time of Andi Mappanyukki Sultan Ibrahim. This type of research is a qualitative field through observation, interviews, documentation, and reference searches. The results of this study indicate that the role of Andi Mappanyukki in forming Sultan Ibrahim in developing Islamic institutions in the Bone Kingdom included socio-religious organizations, educating the Bone kingdom, bring scholars, and Islamic educational institutions. Informal education at the time of Andi Mappanyukki had formal Islamic educational institutions namely al-Madrasah al-Amīriyyah al-Islamiyyah Watampone, non-formal Islamic education institutions were recitations at the Old Mosque (al-Mujahidin), Watampone Great Mosque, Cabalu Mosque, Palakka Mosque, Macege Mosque, Awangpone Mosque, Cenrana Mosque, and the Ulama's House. Relics of the past or commonly called the culture of the end, is a very important thing to know the behavior and activities of humans in their time.

Abstract Deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus) are the principal reservoir hosts of Sin Nombre virus (SNV), while long-tailed pygmy rice rats (Oligoryzomys longicaudatus) are the principal reservoir hosts of Andes virus (ANDV). These viruses cause the great majority of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome cases in North and South America. The disease in humans is principally an inflammatory immunopathology that results in a pronounced capillary leak syndrome with a 36% fatality rate due to cardiogenic shock. In contrast, infection of rodent reservoirs with their hantaviruses results in life-long persistence, without signs of disease, that appears to be mediated by regulatory T cells. Deer mice are experimentally susceptible to ANDV; however, they clear infection within 56 days. We infected deer mice with SNV or ANDV for 14 days and examined the immune responses to each virus. Lymph node cells from infected deer mice were harvested and cultured with viral antigens to examine expression of 94 immune-related genes by real-time PCR. We found that most of the same genes were expressed in both SNV- and ANDV-infected deer mice; however, the magnitude of gene expression, particularly Th2 genes, were significantly greater in lymph node cells from ANDV-infected deer mice. Together, these results suggest a quantitative effect occurs in the host response to a reservoir hantavirus (SNV) compared to a nonreservoir hantavirus (ANDV) and is associated with persistence or clearance.

Leafy spurge (Euphorbiaspp.), an aggressive noxious perennial weed of North America, is a complex group that has been designated as several different species, includingE. esulaL. (# EPHES) andE. virgataWald. & Kit. [E. waldsteinii(Sojak) Radcliffe-Smith]. Current classification keys are unsatisfactory in assigning plants in the field to specific taxa (or to a single taxon). These keys rely heavily upon morphological characteristics of leaves, but great variation in the leaves has been noted by us and previously reported by others. In this study we demonstrate qualitatively and quantitatively that the within-plant, within-clone, among-clone, and among-site variation in leaf morphology and triterpenoid content of the latex of leafy spurge is inherently high. Leaf characters were of little value in separating any of the accessions considered in our study. Latex triterpenoid profiles were useful in distinguishingE. lucidaW. & K. ×salicifoliaHost. andE. salicifoliafrom EuropeanE. esula, E. waldsteinii, andE. sequierianaNeck. ssp.seguieriana, and all Montana accessions previously described from morphological studies. We concluded that Montana leafy spurge and the EuropeanE. esula, E. waldsteinii, andE. sequierianabelong to a single taxon:Euphorbia esulaL.

ABSTRACTIncreasing petroleum costs and climate change have resulted in microalgae receiving attention as potential biofuel producers. Little information is available on the diversity and functions of bacterial communities associated with biofuel-producing algae. A potential biofuel-producing microalgal strain,Nannochloropsis oceanicaIMET1, was grown in Permian groundwater. Changes in the bacterial community structure at three temperatures were monitored by two culture-independent methods, and culturable bacteria were characterized. After 9 days of incubation,N. oceanicaIMET1 began to aggregate and precipitate in cultures grown at 30°C, whereas cells remained uniformly distributed at 15°C and 25°C. The bacterial communities in cultures at 30°C changed markedly. Some bacteria isolated only at 30°C were tested for their potential for aggregating microalgae. A novel bacterium designated HW001 showed a remarkable ability to aggregateN. oceanicaIMET1, causing microalgal cells to aggregate after 3 days of incubation, while the total lipid content of the microalgal cells was not affected. Direct interaction of HW001 andN. oceanicais necessary for aggregation. HW001 can also aggregate the microalgaeN. oceanicaCT-1,Tetraselmis suecica, andT. chuiias well as the cyanobacteriumSynechococcusWH8007. 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons indicated the great novelty of this strain, which exhibited only 89% sequence similarity with any previously cultured bacteria. Specific primers targeted to HW001 revealed that the strain originated from the Permian groundwater. This study of the bacterial communities associated with potential biofuel-producing microalgae addresses a little-investigated area of microalgal biofuel research and provides a novel approach to harvest biofuel-producing microalgae by using the novel bacterium strain HW001.

In Laws of Media, written with his son Eric, Marshall McLuhan aimed to assign scientific status to his ideas, presenting his Tetrad model and offering several examples of its application. Mcluhanism places great emphasis on media ecology specific perceptual bias; authors such as Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Humberto Maturana, Francisco Varela, David Chalmers and Andy Clark allow us to bridge it to the research on consciousness and brain carried through the last decades. If media creates an experience related to its epistemic context, it is possible to approach the forms of human-machine coupling – especially in digital culture –, by examining the hypothesis of a triplex isomorphism between <brain><apparatus><experience> that would turn mcluhanism into hard science. This hypothesis’ aspects are discussed, alongside further problems related to contemporary artwork creation.

BackgroundMetal contamination in soils affects both above- and belowground communities, including soil microorganisms. Ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi are an important component in belowground community and tolerant strains have great potential in enhancing plant-based remediation techniques. We assessed cadmium and zinc toxicity in five ECM species in liquid media (Hebeloma subsaponaceum;H. cylindrosporum;H. crustuliniforme;Sclerodermasp.;Austroboletus occidentalis) and investigated the potential of Zn to alleviate Cd toxicity. Due to highly divergent results reported in the literature, liquid and solid media were compared experimentally for the first time in terms of differential toxicity thresholds in Cd and Zn interactions.MethodsA wide range of Cd and Zn concentrations were applied to ectomycorrhizal fungi in axenic cultures (in mg L−1): 0; 1; 3; 9; 27; 81; 243 for the Cd treatments, and 0; 1; 30; 90; 270; 810; 2,430 for Zn. Combined Zn and Cd treatments were also applied toH. subsaponaceumandSclerodermasp. Dry weight was recorded after 30 days, and in case of solid medium treatments, radial growth was also measured.Results and DiscussionAll species were adversely affected by high levels of Cd and Zn, andA. occidentaliswas the most sensitive, with considerable biomass decrease at 1 mg L−1Cd, whileSclerodermasp. andH. subsaponaceumwere the most tolerant, which are species commonly found in highly contaminated sites. Cd was generally 10 times more toxic than Zn, which may explain why Zn had little impact in alleviating Cd effects. In some cases, Cd and Zn interactions led to a synergistic toxicity, depending on the concentrations applied and type of media used. Increased tolerance patterns were detected in fungi grown in solid medium and may be the cause of divergent toxicity thresholds found in the literature. Furthermore, solid medium allows measuring radial growth/mycelial density as endpoints which are informative and in this case appeared be related to the high tolerance indices found inH. subsaponaceum.

The emergence and global spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae andAcinetobacter baumanniiare of great concern to health services worldwide. Theseβ-lactamases hydrolyse almost allβ-lactams, are plasmid-encoded, and are easily transferable among bacterial species. They are mostly of the KPC, VIM, IMP, NDM, and OXA-48 types. Their current extensive spread worldwide in Enterobacteriaceae is an important source of concern. Infections caused by these bacteria have limited treatment options and have been associated with high mortality rates. Carbapenemase producers are mainly identified amongKlebsiella pneumoniae,Escherichia coli, andA. baumanniiand still mostly in hospital settings and rarely in the community. The Mediterranean region is of interest due to a great diversity and population mixing. The prevalence of carbapenemases is particularly high, with this area constituting one of the most important reservoirs. The types of carbapenemase vary among countries, partially depending on the population exchange relationship between the regions and the possible reservoirs of each carbapenemase. This review described the epidemiology of carbapenemases produced by enterobacteria andA. baumanniiin this part of the world highlighting the worrisome situation and the need to screen and detect these enzymes to prevent and control their dissemination.

Currently, we are witnessing the beginning of a completely new stage of infrastructure modernization in the states of Eurasia. The countries of the region realized that there is an urgent need to work actively to create a single platform for improving transport infrastructure and logistics, as well as the development of multilateral trade and economic cooperation. Since the beginning of the 21st century, one of the main topics on the international agenda has been devoted to the revival of the Great Silk Road. Within the framework of the above-mentioned initiative, the States of the region intend to intensify their economic and social development by stimulating cross-border cooperation. In fact, the revival of the Great Silk Road could become one of the largest infrastructure projects of the modern era. Located in the heart of Eurasia, Kazakhstan claims to become a transcontinental bridge that could connect the markets of China, Europe, the CIS and the Persian Gulf countries. As the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. said. Tokayev “Multivector, balanced, constructive – these are the fundamental principles of our foreign policy. And such a foreign policy, in my opinion, best corresponds to the geopolitical status of our country, its geographical location, after all. We reasonably position ourselves as a transit trade bridge between Europe and Asia. Lamiaceae is an important plant family that inhabits various ecosystems and has great diversity, is considered a cosmopolitan plant and has an important role in pharmaceutical and cosmetic sciences because of its essential oil content in almost every species. This research was focused on identify plant species from the Lamiacecae family that potential as essential oil producer in West Sumatra with their distribution based on ANDA Herbarium specimens. Data was collected use the herbarium method and literature study to determine the potential of each species. The results showed in the ANDA Herbarium were 45 species from 20 genera, which dominated by species that have the potential to produce essential oils as many as 23 species, followed by species that had not explore for their essential oil content as 11 species and commercial species, 9 species. The ArgumentIt is often observed by historians of postwar American art that painters and sculptors of the 1960s sought a more mechanized “look” for their art. I argue that the changes reflected in the art have their source in a deeper shift – a shift at the level of production, expressed in new studio practices as well as in the space of the artworks themselves.In the period immediately before, during, and after World War II, the dominant topos of the American artist was that of a solitary (male) genius, alone in his studio, sole witness to the miraculous creation of his art. I demonstrate that artists of the 1960s, against this backdrop of heroic modernism, engaged in a different rhetoric and practice, one based on the models of industry and business. The studio of Andy Warhol, named the “Factory,” is viewed as apodictic of this great change, with its rudimentary assembly line and highly social mode of production.The change in practice instantiated in Warhol's Factory is significant in and of itself, but I argue further that it expressed itself in the “place of knowledge” – the space within (or in front of) Warhol's paintings and objects, and the newly social space in which they signify. The context for that signification thus becomes crucial to our understanding of the “Warhol phenomenon” celebrated in popular and arthistorical texts. The ambivalencies embedded in Warhol's Factory, where the artist's role oscillated between manager and proletarian worker, are seen as a function of their context. Conflicting signals are also broadcast by the works of art, which speak in the dialect of mass production with the accent of the irreplaceably unique.

This study was designed to determine the occurrence and species distribution of dermatophyte from cutaneous skin lesions of horses in Kaduna State, Nigeria. A total of 102 skin scrapings were collected from 102 horses with skin lesions. Mycological studies were carried out using conventional techniques. Dermatophytes were isolated from 18 (17.6%) of the 102 samples collected. The 18 dermatophytes were distributed into 10 different species belonging toMicrosporum(n=5) andTrichophyton(n=5) genera.T. verrucosum(n=4) was the most predominant species isolated followed byM. equinum(n=3),T. vanbreuseghemii(n=2),M. gypseum(n=2), andM. canis(n=2). Others includeM. fulvum(n=2),T. mentagrophytes(n=1),T. equinum(n=1),T. soudanense(n=1), andM. gallinae(n=1). The present study reveals the occurrence of dermatophytes in cutaneous skin lesions of horses in Kaduna State, Nigeria. In addition for the first time in this environment the anthropophilic dermatophyteT. soudanensewas isolated from horses. These findings have great economic, veterinary, and public health significance as they relate to the cost of treatment and dissemination of zoonotic dermatophytes.

In my last couple of messages to the Society, I cited Andy Grove, former CEO of Intel, who, in his 1998 book, Only the Paranoid Survive, advanced the concept of the “strategic inflection point” (see figure), and then discussed its implications for our Society, both from the standpoint of influence and relevance. I think that the Society is making good progress in that regard. Our Society has an important role to play as the go-to organization for learning how to effectively implement system safety engineering and management, regardless of the application. This is part of our “export” strategy, whereby we help other sectors to adopt the system safety approach. In mid-December 2016, I represented the Society as an invited speaker at a conference on NORM (naturally-occurring radioactive material) in Abu Dhabi, which focused on the upstream oil and gas industry. It is significant that many of our members are active outside of the traditional defense/aerospace sector, and they are doing great work to expand our influence in business, industry and academia. This paper presents a numerical study of natural convection within a wavy enclosure heated via corner heating. The considered enclosure is a square enclosure with left wavy side wall. The vertical wavy wall of the enclosure and both of the corner heaters are maintained at constant temperature,TcandTh, respectively, withTh>Tcwhile the remaining horizontal, bottom, top and side walls are insulated. A penalty element-free Galerkin approach with reduced gauss integration scheme for penalty terms is used to solve momentum and energy equations over the complex domain with wide range of parameters, namely, Rayleigh number (Ra), Prandtl number (Pr), and range of heaters in thex- andy-direction. Numerical results are represented in terms of isotherms, streamlines, and Nusselt number. It is observed that the rate of heat transfer depends to a great extent on the Rayleigh number, Prandtl number, length of the corner heaters and the shape of the heat transfer surface. The consistent performance of the adopted numerical procedure is verified by comparison of the results obtained through the present meshless technique with those existing in the literature.

Big-eyed bugs (Geocorisspp. Fallén, Hemiptera: Lygaeidae) are ubiquitous, omnivorous insect predators whose plant feeding behavior raises the question of whether they benefit or harm plants. However, several studies have investigated both the potential ofGeocorisspp. to serve as biological control agents in agriculture and their importance as agents of plant indirect defense in nature. These studies have demonstrated thatGeocorisspp. effectively reduce herbivore populations and increase plant yield. Previous work has also indicated thatGeocorisspp. respond to visual and olfactory cues when foraging and choosing their prey and that associative learning of prey and plant cues informs their foraging strategies. For these reasons,Geocorisspp. have become models for the study of tritrophic plant-herbivore-predator interactions. Here, we present detailed images and ecological observations ofG. pallensStål andG. punctipes(Say) native to the Great Basin Desert of southwestern Utah, including observations of their life histories and color morphs, dynamics of their predatory feeding behavior and prey choice over space and time, and novel aspects ofGeocorisspp.’s relationships to their host plants. These observations open up new areas to be explored regarding the behavior ofGeocorisspp. and their interactions with plant and herbivore populations.

Lipases are important hydrolytic enzymes that hydrolyze long chain triacylglycerol intodiacylglycerol, monoacylglycerol, glycerol and fatty acids. Lipases are found in microorganisms, fungi,plants and animals. Commercially, useful extracellular lipases are isolated from different bacterial species,including Bacillus, Achromobacter, Alcaligenes, Arthrobacter, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus andChromobacterium species. Among the Pseudomonas species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, P. cepacia andP. fluorescence are the major producers of lipases. Bacterial lipases have great industrial applicationsbecause of their stability, selectivity and broad substrate specificity. Due to their large scale applicationin industrial sectors, attention is given to isolate Pseudomonas lipases. In this review, purification strategiesfor lipases isolated from Pseudomonas species have been focussed.

We determined the content of phytosterols in buckwheat products. Additionally, the influence of technological processing applied during buckwheat groats production on the content of some phytosterols was investigated. The highest level of phytosterols was observed in lipids extracted from roasted buckwheat hulls and raw buckwheat hulls (51.7&nbsp;mg/g of lipids and 40.9 mg/g of lipids, respectively). Sitosterol and campesterol were found in the largest quantities in each sample. Technological process affected the total content of phytosterols. An increase of phytosterol content in buckwheat grains (by 107.5%) was observed, while a reduction in phytosterol content in buckwheat groats (by 75.5%) was noted.

The primary purpose of this article is to comprehensively survey the research on excavated Confucian texts from the past 30 years. Newly excavated Confucian manuscripts are seen in such collections as those from Guodian 郭店, Shangbo 上博, Tsinghua 清華, Anda 安大, and Haihun 海昏. In terms of their content, they each have their own focus and characteristics. Among these bamboo manuscripts there is a large number dedicated to the Shijing 詩經, the Shujing 書經, the Liji 禮記, the Yijing 易經, and to Kongzi 孔子 making them of great importance. At present, research on the Guodian and the Shangbo manuscripts is mostly completed and that into the Tsinghua collection is making large strides while research into the Anda collection is just beginning to develop. Among all this research, one of the weakest areas revolves around the explanation and discussion of Confucian thought and related problems. This includes textual evidence in the form of excavated Confucian texts that provide a foundation for “leaving behind the age of doubting antiquity” (zouchu yigu shidai 走出疑古時代) and the related debates carried out by scholars are beneficial to transmitting and revising this theory.

Thel number ofl samples inl this researchl were 70 consumers whol had bought or consumed at international franchised fast food restaurants atl least oncel in thel last onel month. Thel research datal were analyzedl by usingl fishbein lmulti-atribute lanalysis, descriptivel statistics analysis, andl multiple linear regressionl analysis. Datal collection wasl conducted from lJune-Julyl 2022. Thel results showedl that thel consumers who boughtl or consumed atlinternational franchised fast food restaurants is because of its taste, hygiene, and services. Consumers more likely to buy at a international franchised fast food restaurants that served fried chicken as it main course like McD and KFC. The average amount of purchased were two menus per transaction and average amount of frequency were three times per month with reason of purchased were great taste, easy to find, and practical. Factors that affected the consumption were incomes, international franchised fast food restaurant’s prices, and consumers habitual variables.

Abstract: Gus Dur is son of a great kiai, grandson of K.H. Hasyim Ashari, caretaker of Pondok Pesantren Tebuireng and son of former Minister of Religious Affairs in the cabinet of Sukarno. He is a controversial and eccentric figure. Gus Dur asralism figure capable of flapping wings in five fields at once; religion, democracy, ideology, culture, and politics. Frequently his attitudes and actions confuse great kiais. Moreover, his students as a large part of the community based nahdliyyin stress, unable to understand his flow of thought and action. When Gus Dur became president, he appearing on the front line to teach the people of Indonesia for practicing "true democracy". When criticized by those who are opposed, he was ready to accept it, to not retaliate in any way (al-though to be president). Groat proportion is the groat yield from an oat dehulling process. We compared hand, impact and compressed-air dehulling to measure groat proportion, and evaluated sources of error. Hand dehulling was the simplest and most accurate method, because all groats and hulls can be accounted for. Mechanical methods dehulled most, but not all, oat kernels. Failure to account for oats resistant to dehulling in calculations resulted in gross errors. Oats resistant to impact dehulling did not differ in groat proportion from the general population, but differed in many physical properties. Hull structure may account the most for their resistance to dehulling. Mechanically dehulled oats consistently yielded lower groat proportions than those from hand dehulling. Since the difference cannot be attributed to oats resistant to dehulling, groats must be lost during the aspiration process, common to all mechanical methods. Uniform aspiration protocols should provide a uniform error. All groat proportion values obtained here were highly correlated among themselves, except when values were not corrected for oats resistant to dehulling. A theoretical groat proportion calculated from the ratio of the mean groat mass (collected by any means available) and the mean kernel mass yielded a groat proportion value that did not differ significantly from the hand dehulling value.Key words: Oat milling, groat proportion, oat dehulling

Background & Objective: :Nitrogen mustard derivatives form one of the major classes of anti-cancer agents in USFDA approved drugs list. These are polyfunctional alkylating agents which are distinguished by a unique mechanism of adduct formation with DNA involving cross-linking between guanine N-7 of one strand of DNA with the other. The generated cross-linking is irreversible and leads to cell apoptosis. Hence it is of great interest to explore this class of anticancer alkylating agents.Methods::An exhaustive list of reviews, research articles, patents, books, patient information leaflets, and orange book is presented and the contents related to nitrogen mustard anti-cancer agents have been reviewed. Attempts are made to present synthesis schemes in a simplified manner. The mechanism of action of the drugs and their side effects are also systematically elaborated.Results::This review provides a platform for understanding all aspects of such drugs right from synthesis to their mechanism of action and side effects, and lists USFDA approved ANDA players among alkylating anticancer agents in the current market.Conclusion: :Perusing this article, generic scientists will be able to access literature information in this domain easily to gain insight into the nitrogen mustard alkylating agents for further ANDA development. It will help the scientific and research community to continue their pursuit for the design of newer and novel heterocyclic alkylating agents of this class in the coming future.

AbstractDecades of chemical, biochemical and pathophysiological research have established the relevance of post-translational protein modifications induced by processes related to oxidative stress, with critical reflections on cellular signal transduction pathways. A great deal of the so-called ‘redox regulation’ of cell function is in fact mediated through reactions promoted by reactive oxygen and nitrogen species on more or less specific aminoacid residues in proteins, at various levels within the cell machinery. Modifications involving cysteine residues have received most attention, due to the critical roles they play in determining the structure/function correlates in proteins. The peculiar reactivity of these residues results in two major classes of modifications, with incorporation of NO moieties (S-nitrosation, leading to formation of proteinS-nitrosothiols) or binding of low molecular weight thiols (S-thionylation, i.e. in particularS-glutathionylation,S-cysteinylglycinylation andS-cysteinylation). A wide array of proteins have been thus analyzed in detail as far as their susceptibility to either modification or both, and the resulting functional changes have been described in a number of experimental settings. The present review aims to provide an update of available knowledge in the field, with a special focus on the respective (sometimes competing and antagonistic) roles played by proteinS-nitrosations andS-thionylations in biochemical and cellular processes specifically pertaining to pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases.

It is a great pleasure to present Trykk i sanntid, “Print in Real Time”, a five-year art project born in Lofoten in Northern Norway, which has now reached its halfway point. The project started due to the need to showcase Lofoten´s new printmaking workshop, in a way rooted in something important to us. Over several years, with limited funds and great enthusiasm, my colleague Kjellaug Hatlen Lunde has built up the printmaking workshop KK-trykk, “KK-print”, which was inaugurated in 2019. The workshop is a part of the joint studio complex and residency centre Kunstkvarteret, located in the middle of Lofoten, established in 2008. Here, four artists have permanent studio spaces while others rent or apply for residency stays for varying durations. In the spring of 2019, Hatlen Lunde contacted our experienced colleague Åse Anda and me with the vague idea of developing some kind of event to promote the new workshop.

In an attempt to explore the possibility of using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as efficient adsorbents for removal of pollutants from the contaminated water, the adsorption ofp-nitrophenol (PNP) on raw multiwalled carbon nanotubes (r.MWNTs) with different outer diameters, various functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (f-MWNTs), raw single-walled carbon nanotubes (r.SWNTs) and oxidized single-walled carbon nanotubes (ox-SWNTs) has been investigated. The ox-SWNTs showed better adsorption ability for PNP with different concentrations, while lower uptake capacity was found for all of the r.MWNTs andf-MWNTs. The removal efficiency of PNP by ox-SWNTs was around 98%, indicating that ox-SWNTs possess a great potential application prospect for removing PNP from aqueous solutions.
