Resumo:

Nowadays, the existence of technology in the middle of the society does not only give the abundant information, but also causes confusion and boredom in searching for the information. Such situation also has influenced the society's demand with different social stratifications in their easiness of accessing the information. Yogyakarta City Library, which in fact is an information center for the whole society layers, is expected to be able to be a bridge for the impacts of technology existence in information searching process. This study aimed at finding out the influence of social environment in building perceptions towards the library functions and how the library functions were viewed by readers with different social stratifications. The method used in this study was the combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches with Concurrent Triangulation design, in which two approaches were used simultaneously. However, data gathering and data analysis processes were done separately. The respondents were fifty users selected through random sampling. The in-depth interview was done towards ten informants. The result of the study indicated that social environment was not only influential in building the society's perceptions towards the library functions, but also motivated the readers to visit the library. Besides, it was found out that there was the change regarding to the society's perceptions with different social backgrounds towards the library functions. Recently, a library has not only been viewed as a book storage or solely an information provider, but has also been viewed as a rare collections preserver, an amusement place, simply a spot for hanging out with friends, and a positive game facility among children and parents. In addition, a library has also been viewed as a successor of the education missions and as a medium for channeling the society's talent and creativity.

Resumo:

Travel and tourism represent a multifaceted sector, with the customer's journey from departure to return encompassing myriad interactions. A deeper comprehension of these interactions allows for enhanced planning aimed at enriching the customer's experience. The integration of advanced data analytics has significantly advanced the focus on customer needs within the travel and tourism industry. In this specific study, data analytics is applied to tailor experiences for visitors to an amusement park, using a comprehensive dataset from a fictional park to explore how variables such as age, group makeup, admission time, ride preferences, and eating habits can enhance the visitor experience. The findings offer valuable insights into visitor behaviors, facilitating the customization of services. For instance, age-related data informs the imposition of ride restrictions, while data on arrival and departure times aid in refining park operations and managing crowds more effectively.

This chapter traces the interrelationship of text and illustration in a selection of periodicals from the 1830s to the 1890s. From the ‘Big Cuts’ in Punch to the ever-developing face of Ally Sloper, the increasing importance of illustration over text defined readerships and ushered in an acceptance of the world as mediated through a visual lens. Iconographic conventions borrowed from gothic and fantastic literature informed the creation of urban scenes in news magazines like the Illustrated London News and Graphic; such codes helped readers make sense of a new sort of interface largely controlled by the artists’ decisions about subject matter. Word and image jostled for space on the page, but were also allied through juxtaposition and the arrangement of white space. Information, illumination and amusement were the triumvirate that helped ensure the appeal of comics and cartoons in the illustrated press across class lines and over time.

Abstract To a very large extent, Tex was designed for the placement of characters on a page. It was implicitly assumed that the characters were probably alphabetic or mathematical. Nevertheless, Knuth notes If you enjoy fooling around making pictures, instead of type setting ordinary text, Tex will be a source of endless frustration/amusement for you, because almost anything is possible... While it is well able to draw horizontal and vertical lines, or even to plot dots more or less at random (see, for example, Knuth, 1986, p.389, and Figure 17.1), most people expect a little more from their graphics. There is also an architectural limitation: although Tex could easily simulate an arbitrary continuous curve by placing a very large number of small dots (or rules) on the page (or screen), Tex was only granted a finite memory. You quickly run out of memory. This is all the more distressing since there now exist versions of Tex with small and large amounts of memory (basically related to the addressing ability: 64-bit Tex on a Cray has potentially much more memory than 16-bit Tex on a pc: Tex in-UNIX is generally somewhere in between). Sadly, this has had the effect of making Tex documents less portable, and seriously undermines Tex’s claim to universality.

Abstract What relationship is there between the Sunday extravagances of these ‘arti¬ sans’ and ‘petty bourgeois’ men on the one hand, and the solid realities of exploitation and class struggle on the other? As with every vertigo and every Sunday, it is one of everything and nothing. Monday they will begin again the monotony of work or the vagrancy of unemployment. The world remains unchanged when the young seamstress leaves the Saint-Simonian preaching session, to which she had gone ‘to find a bit of droll amusement’ and from which she returned ‘filled with admiration and astonishment for the grandeur of the ideas and the unselfishness of the apostles’.’ Nothing has changed, but nothing will ever be the same as before, either. Fifty years later, when many of the apostles will have forgotten or disavowed it, our seamstress and our joiner will still proudly bear the marks of the bite. For it is in the moments when the real world wavers and seems to reel into mere appearance, more than in the slow accumulation of day-to-day experiences, that it becomes possible to form a judgment about the world.

Whatever might have been Sophia’s sensations, the rest of the family was easily consoled for Mr. Burchell’s absence by the company of our landlord, whose visits now became more frequent and longer. Though he had been disappointed in procuring my daughters the amusements of the town, as he designed, he took every opportunity of supplying them with those little recreations which our retirement would admit of. He usually came in the morning, and while my son and I followed our occupations abroad, he sat with the family at home, and amused them by describing the town, with every part of which he was particularly acquainted. He could repeat all the observations that were retailed in the atmosphere of the playhouses, and had all the good things of the high wits by rote long before they made way into the jest-books. If the cakes at tea eat short and crisp, they were made by Olivia: if the gooseberry wine was well knit,* the gooseberries were of her gathering: it was her fingers which gave the pickles their peculiar green; and in the composition of a pudding, it was her judgment that mix’d the ingredients. Then the poor woman would sometimes tell the ‘Squire, that she thought him and Olivia extremely of a size, and would bid both stand up to see which was tallest. These instances of cunning, which she thought impenetrable, yet which every body saw through, were very pleasing to our benefactor, who gave every day some new proofs of his passion, which though they had not arisen to proposals of marriage, yet we thought fell but little short of it; and his slowness was attributed sometimes to native bashfulness, and sometimes to his fear of offending his uncle. Resumo:

Abstract The reducer is a very important mechanical part of large-scale rotating amusement devices such as the popular big pendulum. It constantly adjusts the speed during the operation of the device and bears different loads. Due to it is difficult to disassemble after its installation, there is no effective method for the detection or online monitoring. Acoustic emission (AE) technology is an effective tool for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of rotating machinery. AE tests for the reducer were studied in the lab. The effects of speed change and load change on the AE signals of the reducer are respectively obtained. The filed test on reducers of a big pendulum in the amusement park was carried out. The AE characteristics of the reducer with the movement of the pendulum were analyzed. The results show that AE technology will play an important role in the health monitoring of the reducer on amusement devices.

The economy of Latvia is experiencing rapid development in the European Union and is an active participant of the United Nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In recent years there have been several changes in both sectors and national economic policy. The total population in Latvia was estimated at 1.9 million inhabitants in 2019 and a total GDP per capita was 63% of the EU average, the lowest GDP per capita in purchasing power parity was recorded in Bulgaria - 46% of the EU average, Romania - 60% and Croatia - 62%. Lithuanian and Estonian GDP per capita in 2019 was accounted for 74% of the EU average. Latvia has more than 12 theme parks, but the amusement offer is small. Most of the theme parks are mostly located in Kurzeme and Vidzeme. Attraction Parks historically evolved near the big cities, where the infrastructure is highly developed. The aim is to increase the influx of tourists in regions where tourism products are amusement parks, thus developing more local businesses and the city's environment, increasing the demand for an active economic environment, but regional laws often hinder this development.
