This study focuses on how knowledge is mobilized in agile information systems (IS) projects. One crucial success factor of those projects is to mobilize knowledge through different knowledge management processes. It is vital to establish efficient knowledge management (KM) processes to generate a knowledge culture based on transparency and communication. Communication channels, digital tools, and platforms are essential for establishing a KM infrastructure supporting the knowledge work of the project organization. Thus, each IS implementation team should maintain a knowledge base and a knowledge potential at some level. However, this is not always the case. We conducted a literature review to survey the extant research on the role of KM in agile system development projects. The agile approach is often associated with the networking model and tacit knowledge. The findings indicate that the agile approach is supposed to promote KM. While tacit knowledge is rooted in the analogue process of continuous actions and informal communication, explicit knowledge is captured in digital records of documentation and databases. In KM, the personalization model (behavioural, networking) and the codification (technocratic, repository) model is central. The choice of system development method (agile versus plan-driven) influences how knowledge is mobilized in the project organization. An agile approach heavily relies on informal communication, tacit knowledge sharing, and light documentation. In contrast, the plan-driven methods such as the waterfall approach generate more explicit knowledge through documentation. Communities of practice are important structures for transforming from plan-driven to agile approaches. We present a framework showing specific challenges the literature identifies concerning the efficient mobilization of knowledge in the agile context. For large-scale agile projects, informal coordination mechanisms were important. This study identifies several measures for overcoming barriers and risks for knowledge sharing in the agile context.

With the advent of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies, the networking infrastructures are becoming increasingly agile in their attempts to offer the quality of services needed by the users, maximizing the efficiency of infrastructure utilization. This in essence mandates the statistical multiplexing of demands across the infrastructures of different Network Providers (NPs), which would allow them to cope with the increasing demand, upgrading their infrastructures at a slower pace. However, to enjoy the benefits of statistical multiplexing, a trusted authority to govern it would be required. At the same time, blockchain technology aspires to offer a solid advantage in such untrusted environments, enabling the development of decentralized solutions that ensure the integrity and immutability of the information stored in the digital ledger. To this end, in this paper, we propose a blockchain-based solution that allows NPs to trade their (processing and networking) resources. We implemented the solution in a test-bed deployed on the cloud and we present the gathered performance results, showing that a blockchain-based solution is feasible and appropriate. We also discuss further improvements and challenges.

The recent rapid advancement of cloud-native networking infrastructure has leveraged the resource virtualization technology of containers to realize diverse microservice-based applications in 5G/6G networks and clouds. Containers drastically enhance the efficiency of computational resource allocation and utilization as compared to the related virtualization technology of Virtual Machines (VMs). The networking environment leveraging both VM and container mixed virtualization technologies makes the most use of them to realize a computational platform whose resources can be dynamically adjusted to a fine granularity. To continuously meet the required levels of quality of services in 5G/6G networks and clouds in that platform, an agile and autonomous data analytics system in the control plane is essential for the accurate prediction of server workloads and dynamic allocation of enough amount of computational resource. In this paper, we introduce a framework, which complies with Recommendation ITU-T Y.3177, for autonomous computational resource control and management. The framework consists of an advanced data analytics system and a resource control system. We propose an architecture for the advanced data analytics system consisting of learning and prediction components. The learning component includes a three-stage intelligent model pipelining with three cascaded machine learning models, nonlinear regression, clustering, and multiple regression. These models determine the fluctuation trends in CPU utilization, classify services with similarities in the trends, and predict the peak CPU utilization of each containerized microservice. We evaluate the proposed models through experiments and numerical analysis. The results prove that the models support agile data analytics, which can complete data processing in the time granularity of seconds and achieve higher prediction accuracy of CPU utilization.

The energy storage or management system is becoming more important as electrical energy demand globally grows. In the first step of the energy management plan, energy forecasting is an essential element. Software-defined network (SDN) seeks to change network architecture and processes to be agile and effectively enhance the functionality of fundamental system components such as switches and routers. Predicting electric energy is crucial to support demand-side management in the building business. The total power load of the individual building services systems management is becoming a challenging process to be predicted for buildings with electricity metering systems. Conventional model energy prediction focuses on predictive accuracy, and energy consumption must be predicted according to different conditions to build an efficient system. Novel deep learning-based smart energy metering prediction (DL-SEMP) technique is considered to overthrow such accuracy lack in prediction. Blockchain-based SDN has emerged a new architect for obtaining a distributed network in blockchain technology.

The promising advancements in the telecommunications and automotive sectors over the years have empowered drivers with highly innovative communication and sensing capabilities, in turn paving the way for the next-generation connected and autonomous vehicles. Today, vehicles communicate wirelessly with other vehicles and vulnerable pedestrians in their immediate vicinity to share timely safety-critical information primarily for collision mitigation. Furthermore, vehicles connect with the traffic management entities via their supporting network infrastructure to become more aware of any potential hazards on the roads and for guidance pertinent to their current and anticipated speeds and travelling course to ensure more efficient traffic flows. Therefore, a secure and low-latency communication is highly indispensable in order to meet the stringent performance requirements of such safety-critical vehicular applications. However, the heterogeneity of diverse radio access technologies and inflexibility in their deployment results in network fragmentation and inefficient resource utilization, and these, therefore, act as bottlenecks in realizing the aims for a highly efficient vehicular networking architecture. In order to overcome such sorts of bottlenecks, this article brings forth the current state-of-the-art in the context of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and subsequently proposes a software-defined heterogeneous vehicular networking (SDHVNet) architecture for ensuring a highly agile networking infrastructure to ensure rapid network innovation on-demand. Finally, a number of potential architectural challenges and their probable solutions are discussed.

Future mobile networks (MNs) are required to be flexible with minimal infrastructure complexity, unlike current ones that rely on proprietary network elements to offer their services. Moreover, they are expected to make use of renewable energy to decrease their carbon footprint and of virtualization technologies for improved adaptability and flexibility, thus resulting in green and self-organized systems. In this article, we discuss the application of software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) technologies towards softwarization of the mobile network functions, taking into account different architectural proposals. In addition, we elaborate on whether mobile edge computing (MEC), a new architectural concept that uses NFV techniques, can enhance communication in 5G cellular networks, reducing latency due to its proximity deployment. Besides discussing existing techniques, expounding their pros and cons and comparing state-of-the-art architectural proposals, we examine the role of machine learning and data mining tools, analyzing their use within fully SDN- and NFV-enabled mobile systems. Finally, we outline the challenges and the open issues related to evolved packet core (EPC) and MEC architectures.

Achieving sustainable freight transport and citizens’ mobility operations in modern cities are becoming critical issues for many governments. By analyzing big data streams generated through IoT devices, city planners now have the possibility to optimize traffic and mobility patterns. IoT combined with innovative transport concepts as well as emerging mobility modes (e.g., ridesharing and carsharing) constitute a new paradigm in sustainable and optimized traffic operations in smart cities. Still, these are highly dynamic scenarios, which are also subject to a high uncertainty degree. Hence, factors such as real-time optimization and re-optimization of routes, stochastic travel times, and evolving customers’ requirements and traffic status also have to be considered. This paper discusses the main challenges associated with Internet of Vehicles (IoV) and vehicle networking scenarios, identifies the underlying optimization problems that need to be solved in real time, and proposes an approach to combine the use of IoV with parallelization approaches. To this aim, agile optimization and distributed machine learning are envisaged as the best candidate algorithms to develop efficient transport and mobility systems.

Software-defined networking (SDN) is one of the most prevailing networking paradigms in current and next-generation networks. Basically, the highly featured separation of control and data planes makes SDN a proper solution towards many practical problems that challenge legacy networks, for example, energy efficiency, dynamic network configuration, agile network measurement, and flexible network deployment. Although the SDN and its applications have been extensively studied for several years, the research of SDN security is still in its infancy. Typically, the SDN suffers from architecture defect and OpenFlow protocol loopholes such as single controller problem, deficiency of communication verification, and network resources constraint. Hence, network measurement is a fundamental technique of protecting SDN against the above security threats. Specifically, network measurement aims to understand and quantify a variety of network behaviors to facilitate network management and monitoring, anomaly detection, network troubleshooting, and the establishment of security mechanisms. In this paper, we present a systematic survey on security-aware measurement technology in SDN. In particular, we first review the basic architecture of SDN and corresponding security challenges. Then, we investigate two performance measurement techniques in SDN, namely, link latency and available bandwidth measurements. After that, we further provide a general overview of topology measurement in SDN including intradomain and interdomain topology discovering techniques. Finally, we list three interesting future directions of security-aware measurement in SDN followed by giving conclusion remarks.

<p><span lang="EN-US">With the emergence of cloud computing as a processing backbone for internet of thing (IoT), fog computing has been proposed as a solution for delay-sensitive applications. According to fog computing, this is done by placing computing servers near IoT. IoT networks are inherently very dynamic, and their topology and resources may be changed drastically in a short period. So, using the traditional networking paradigm to build their communication backbone, may lower network performance and higher network configuration convergence latency. So, it seems to be more beneficial to employ a software-defined network paradigm to implement their communication network. In software-defined networking (SDN), separating the network’s control and data forwarding plane makes it possible to manage the network in a centralized way. Managing a network using a centralized controller can make it more flexible and agile in response to any possible network topology and state changes. This paper presents a software-defined fog platform to host real-time applications in IoT. The effectiveness of the mechanism has been evaluated by conducting a series of simulations. The results of the simulations show that the proposed mechanism is able to find near to optimal solutions in a very lower execution time compared to the brute force method.</span></p>

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) are a compelling application of ad hoc networks, because of the potential to access specific context information (e.g. traffic conditions, service updates, route planning) and deliver multimedia services (Voice over IP, in-car entertainment, instant messaging, etc.). This paper proposes an agent based information dissemination model for VANETs. A two-tier agent architecture is employed comprising of the following: 1) 'lightweight', network-facing, mobile agents; 2) 'heavyweight', application-facing, norm-aware agents. The limitations of VANETs lead us to consider a hybrid wireless network architecture that includes Wireless LAN/Cellular and ad hoc networking for analyzing the proposed model. The proposed model provides flexibility, adaptability and maintainability for traffic information dissemination in VANETs as well as supports robust and agile network management. The proposed model has been simulated in various network scenarios to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach.

Making use of Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming the necessity of today’s life. The data collected and stored through IoT devices comes from the cloud and therefore cloud computing is acting as a backbone for supporting IoT. But it is easy to forget that the cloud is not completely digital in some areas of the world and there is a need for a data centre where data storage can be achieved. Cloud data centres are facing many difficulties and issues because they are using traditional methods of networking. This is where Software Defined Networking (SDN) has come into view; where it has changed the way traditional networks are operated. For example, the separation of the intelligence of the network devices within the data path can be useful in making networks agile and manageable. This paper aims to provide problem areas in the networking used by the cloud data centres and the role of SDN to overcome these issues. Platforms for providing the experimental setup for collaboration between SDN and cloud will ultimately be beneficial in setting up the SDN- enabled IoT cloud, and this is also discussed with the open research problems.

High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments rely on the networks as one of the critical parts of their infrastructure both within the participating laboratories and sites as well as globally to interconnect the sites, data centres and experiments instrumentation. Network virtualisation and programmable networks are two key enablers that facilitate agile, fast and more economical network infrastructures as well as service development, deployment and provisioning. Adoption of these technologies by HEP sites and experiments will allow them to design more scalable and robust networks while decreasing the overall cost and improving the effectiveness of the resource utilization. The primary challenge we currently face is ensuring that WLCG and its constituent collaborations will have the networking capabilities required to most effectively exploit LHC data for the lifetime of the LHC. This paper provides an outline and analysis of the strategies with which the ‘old’ media empires of print and television have met the challenge of ‘new’ media in Australia, notably the internet. It places particular emphasis on the protection of, or the gaining of access to, advertising revenue as a motivating factor in such corporate strategies since the early 1990s. In order to achieve some historical perspective and narrative continuity on this process, the discussion is divided into a rough periodisation. The first period saw the beginning of internet advertising and media organisations establishing a web presence, before the dot.com crash of 2000. A period of more cautious consolidation of positions then followed, and internet advertising became differentiated into categories of search, directories, classified and display, leading up to the corporate discovery of social networking in 2005. The paper concludes with some observations on the recent influx of private equity capital, particularly noting the agile response of ‘old’ media proprietors.

Abstract Cloud adoption has significantly increased using the infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) paradigm, in order to meet the growing demands of computing, storage and networking, in small as well as large enterprises. Different vendors provide their customized solutions for OpenStack deployment on bare metal or virtual infrastructure. Among these many available IaaS solutions, OpenStack stands out as being an agile and open-source platform. However, its deployment procedure is a time-taking and complex process with a learning curve. This paper addresses the lack of basic infrastructure automation in almost all of the OpenStack deployment projects. We propose a flexible framework to automate the process of infrastructure bring up for deployment of several OpenStack distributions, as well as resolving dependencies for a successful deployment. Our experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework in terms of automation status and deployment time, that is, reducing the time spent in preparing a basic virtual infrastructure by four times, on average.

Introduction. The article considers the influence of organizational management structures on the effectiveness of flexible project management methodologies. At the end of the twentieth century, more and more companies began to use informal flexible management structures, which emerged with the development of adhocracy. Purpose. The purpose is to determine and highlight the level of effectiveness of organizational management structures when using flexible project management methodologies. Results. The search for smart alternatives to bureaucracy began several decades ago. The development of the Internet has led to the creation of networking organizations that have increasingly used the adaptive Agile model. The modern market increasingly dictates the conditions aimed at rapid adaptability and flexibility. Usually, the choice of optimal organizational management structure depends on the business environment where the company operates. The use of Agile, when working on projects, involves a preliminary assessment of the operating structure of the company, its level of culture. Understanding the importance of each team member in the organizational structure of management, cooperation between them contributes to the effectiveness of flexible project management methodologies. Many companies are starting to operate on the basis of flexible management, although this policy is not suitable for all types of structures. Very often, in order to implement the Agile principles, it is necessary to start with the company’s departments that innovate and work on various company development projects. The principles and values of flexible project management methodologies run counter to the usual bureaucratic hierarchy, which provides the unquestioning subordination and control, where corporate culture remains unchanged. Conclusions. Possibilities of changes and ensuring the effectiveness of the implementation of these methodologies are impossible without changes in the traditional corporate culture, which established principles that have been formed over the years. Often, changing the culture of the enterprise implies that everyone does everything, which is why such companies give birth to a friendly team, which in terms of efficiency and implementation of new ideas, is an ideal organizational form. However, it should be noted that before giving teams in the organization more autonomy, you need to make sure that all employees see opportunities for the development of the organization in one direction.

With the increased number of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) installations, the data centers of large service providers are becoming more and more agile in terms of network performance efficiency and flexibility. While SDN is an active and obvious trend in a modern data center design, the implications and possibilities it carries for effective and efficient network management are not yet fully explored and utilized. With most of the modern Internet traffic consisting of multimedia services and media-rich content sharing, the quality of multimedia communications is at the center of attention of many companies and research groups. Since SDN-enabled switches have an inherent feature of monitoring the flow statistics in terms of packets and bytes transmitted/lost, these devices can be utilized to monitor the essential statistics of the multimedia communications, allowing the provider to act in case of network failing to deliver the required service quality. The internal packet processing in the SDN switch enables the SDN controller to fetch the statistical information of the particular packet flow using the PacketIn and Multipart messages. This information, if preprocessed properly, can be used to estimate higher layer interpretation of the link quality and thus allowing to relate the provided quality of service (QoS) to the quality of user experience (QoE). This article discusses the experimental setup that can be used to estimate the quality of speech communication based on the information provided by the SDN controller. To achieve higher accuracy of the result, latency characteristics are added based on the exploiting of the dummy packet injection into the packet stream and/or RTCP packet analysis. The results of the experiment show that this innovative approach calculates the statistics of each individual RTP stream, and thus, we obtain a method for dynamic measurement of speech quality, where when quality decreases, it is possible to respond quickly by changing routing at the network level for each individual call. To improve the quality of call measurements, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was also implemented. This model is based on two standard approaches to measuring the speech quality: PESQ and E-model. However, unlike PESQ/POLQA, the CNN-based model can take delay into account, and unlike the E-model, the resulting accuracy is much higher.

Brazil provides free antiretroviral (ARV) therapy to some 150,000 individuals living with HIV/ AIDS). ARV regimens require optimal adherence to achieve undetectable viral loads and to avoid viral resistance. Physicians play a key role to foster ARV adherence, but until now little is known about the communication between physicians/ people living with HIV/AIDS in this setting. In-depth interviews were conducted with 40 physicians treating people living with HIV/AIDS at six public reference centers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Interview topics included: experiences in the treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS, relationship and dialogue with patients, barriers/facilitators to adherence, and effectiveness of available services. Barriers to ARV adherence were mainly related to the low quality of patient-provider relationship. Other barriers were related to "chaotic" patients' lifestyles, and inadequate knowledge and/or negative beliefs about HIV/AIDS and ARV effectiveness. It is necessary to improve networking between services, establish agile referral systems, and improve health professionals' integration. These structural changes could contribute to improved adherence, resulting in improved quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS.

The architectural style of developing a software application using loosely coupled and highly cohesive services can be termed as microservices architecture. The microservices allow agile software development and enable businesses to build and deliver applications quickly. To achieve the benefits of microservices, an underlying infrastructure that supports them must exist. This includes CI/CD pipelines, execution environments like virtual machines and containers, logging and monitoring, communication mechanisms, and so on. Containers are lightweight, enable multiple execution environments to exist on a single operating system instance, and provide isolation. Container Orchestration Engines such as Docker swarm or Kubernetes automate deployment, scaling, fault tolerance, and container networking. Many organizations use containers to spawn resources in public or private clouds. Different engineering teams perform various kinds of tests by bundling the test code and dependencies into containers. However, cleaning up these containers is necessary for the efficient utilization of hardware resources. This paper discusses the need and benefits of a centralized cleanup service for Kubernetes and cloud resources. It analyzes the value additions this service can bring to the software development process of large organizations.

The development of fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication technology has become a major driver to the growth of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. As a promising networking paradigm, software-defined networking (SDN) makes IoT more flexible and agile by decoupling control plane from data plane. With a large number of heterogeneous devices accessing to the network, we need to divide the network into several domains and each domain is managed by an SDN controller. Controllers share topologies with each other to form global view of the entire network, which is used for crossing-domain path routing. However, crossing-domain routing requires global trust between multiple controllers. The reason is that if the malicious controller shares misleading topologies, the rest of controllers may calculate mistaken crossing-domain paths. As a result, packets are forwarded to the domain that is managed by the malicious controller and dropped deliberately, which is known as the black-hole attack. To this end, we present a blockchain-based architecture to ensure secure routing among multiple domains in SDN-enabled IoT networks. All SDN controllers are equipped with blockchains, and they upload abstract topologies to the blockchain via the smart contract. Thus, the genuine view of the entire network can be gained from the blockchain due to its consensus and immutability. In addition, we use the concept of reputation that consists of the local reputation and the global reputation to further protect routing reliability, and the global reputation is reserved in the blockchain. Compared with benchmark architectures, the emulation results show that our proposed method can effectively build trust between multiple controllers and ensure secure routing among multiple domains.

Software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) make a network programmable, resulting in a more flexible and agile network. An important and promising application for these two technologies is network security, where they can dynamically chain virtual security functions (VSFs), such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and intrusion prevention systems, and thus inspect, monitor, or filter traffic flows in cloud data center networks. In view of the strict delay constraints of security services and the high failure probability of VSFs, we propose the use of a security service chain (SSC) orchestration algorithm that is latency aware with reliability assurance (LARA). This algorithm includes an SSC orchestration module and VSF backup module. We first use a reinforcement learning (RL) based Q-learning algorithm to achieve efficient SSC orchestration and try to reduce the end-to-end delay of services. Then, we measure the importance of the physical nodes carrying the VSF instance and backup VSF according to the node importance of VSF. Extensive simulation results indicate that the LARA algorithm is more effective in reducing delay and ensuring reliability compared with other algorithms.

Traditional decision support systems are based on the paradigm of a single decision maker working at a standalone computer or terminal who has a specific decision to make with a specific goal in mind. Organizational decision support systems aim to support decision makers at all levels of an organization (from executive, middle management managers to operators), who have a variety of decisions to make, with different priorities, often in a distributed and dynamic environment. Such systems need to be designed and developed with extra functionality to meet the challenges such as collaborative working. This article proposes an Integrated Decision Support Environment (IDSE) for organizational decision making. The IDSE distinguishes itself from traditional decision support systems in that it can flexibly configure and re-configure its functions to support various decision applications. IDSE is an open software platform which allows its users to define their own decision processes and choose their own exiting decision tools to be integrated into the platform. The IDSE is designed and developed based on distributed client/server networking, with a multi-tier integration framework for consistent information exchange and sharing, seamless process co-ordination and synchronisation, and quick access to packaged and legacy systems. The prototype of the IDSE demonstrates good performance in agile response to fast changing decision situations.

Managers need to better understand how information and communication technologies (ICTs) lead to informed decisions about the investment and advantages of such technologies. However, at best, the empirical evidence on the business value of technology is mixed in relation to small firms. A total of 43 firms satisfied the study’s definition of start-ups. The final survey included 54 questions on access to and use of ICTs, innovation, firm characteristics, as well as the participants’ demographics, of which 11 factors were analyzed as part of this study. We found compelling evidence to support the positive effects of ICTs on firm-level innovation and performance based on the primary survey data of 270 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in an Australian regional area. Moreover, we found that ICT strategies and skills are important factors that drive innovation and the overall performance of SMEs. In addition, various conditions, such as an agile workplace culture and international trade, can help firms improve their performance. Young businesses, particularly start-ups with ICT skills, show an improved innovation capability. However, remoteness appears to influence innovation negatively for nascent firms. Thus, managers should focus on improving ICT skills, strategies, and networking that help facilitate tangible ICT investments to foster innovation and growth.

The expected huge amount of connected cars and applications with varying Quality of Service (QoS) demands still depend on agile/flexible networking infrastructure to deal with dynamic service requests to the control plane, which may become a bottleneck for 5G and Beyond Software-Defined Network (SDN) based Internet of Vehicles (IoV). At the heart of this issue is the need for an architecture and optimization mechanisms that benefit from cutting edge technologies while granting latency bounds in order to control and manage the dynamic nature of IoV. To this end, this article proposes an autonomic software-defined vehicular architecture grounded on the synergy of Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) along with a heuristic approach and an exact model based on linear programming to efficiently optimize the dynamic resource allocation of SDN controllers, ensuring load balancing between controllers and employing reserve resources for tolerance in case of demand variation. The analyses carried out in this article consider: (a) to avoid waste of limited MEC resources, (b) to devise load balancing among controllers, (c) management complexity, and (d) to support scalability in dense IoV scenarios. The results show that the heuristic efficiently manages the environment even in highly dynamic and dense scenarios.

The architectural design of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications requires the careful planning and selection of an appropriate operational strategy. Harmonization of standards is crucial to ensure easier certification and commercialization of IIoT solutions. The ongoing research activities are directed toward designing agile, reliable, and secure transmission technologies and protocols. Recently, Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) standardization bodies have started to consider support for multiple physical layers thus accommodating a wide range of applications. This paper presents the results of the extensive experimental measurement campaign to study the performance of the 6TiSCH (IPv6 over the TSCH mode of IEEE 802.15.4e) network while supporting multiple physical layers (PHYs). For measurement purposes, all experiments were performed on OpenMote-B hardware. These devices are equipped with an Atmel AT86RF215 dual radio transceiver implementing IEEE 802.15.4g. The performance evaluation is provided for the following metrics: network formation time, Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), latency, and duty cycle. Results are encouraging, particularly in terms of high PDR for all tested PHYs. Performance evaluation indicates the importance of proper node positioning, link quality estimation and careful selection of network parameters. Moreover, collected experimental results create a dataset that provides insights into the tested PHYs' performance and their potential for indoor 6TiSCH networking.

This study proposes using machine learning to improve Wi-Fi network security. As Wi-Fi networks spread from industrial to residential areas, the necessity for strong security has risen. The rise of smart networking, especially in the IoT, has created data security and vulnerability issues. A unique method that uses machine learning to detect abnormalities and probable security breaches in Wi-Fi networks addresses these difficulties. We gather, preprocess, and analyse network data to create a complete dataset. This dataset trains machine learning algorithms to identify and classify network anomalies. Using agile methods, data mining, and machine learning algorithms, we created a Wi-Fi network intrusion detection system (WNIDS) that can detect diverse network threats. The proposed WNIDS contains two linked stages with specific machine learning models. These algorithms accurately classify network data as normal or attack specific. Our technology protects against malicious attacks and provides a robust Wi-Fi network for users across domains by incorporating machine learning. Modern network security dangers were fully understood by surveys and data analysis. The WNIDS was implemented and deployed through a structured system development life cycle. This tool eliminates network weaknesses and advances distant enterprises, offering safe and smooth access for consumers globally.

Abstract. Despite a growing sense that start-up enterprise is critical to economic growth, the topic of performance management affects strategic and organizational processes remains largely understudied. In Indonesia, as a sphere where the entrepreneurial ecosystem is on the rise, we explored the strategy of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) start-up firms using a Balanced Scorecard (BSC). This research aims to determine how suitable the BSC is applied to AEC start-ups and how this tool is implemented as the enterprise evolves. We conduct in-depth case studies using multiple data sources, including interviews and field observation. By performing the comparative analysis, we identified managerial practices that enable the networking of BSC perspectives – learning and growth, internal process, customer, and financial – during the start-up lifecycle. From the contribution to the literature perspective, this study provides empirical evidence that the BSC is a valuable performance management tool for early-stage firms. However, the BSC must be reconfigured regularly to reflect the current development stage’s objectives throughout implementation. As the business implications, this research helps AEC entrepreneurs see the significance of achieving organizational balance to drive growth and transition from agile start-ups to sustainable companies. Future research may examine the interconnection between managerial control systems and leadership attributes in different business contexts. The aim of the study was to explore workforce experiences of the rapid implementation of a SARS-CoV-2 asymptomatic testing service (ATS) in a higher education setting during the COVID-19 pandemic. The setting was a multi-campus university in the UK, which hosted a testing service for employees and students over two years. Qualitative semi-structured videoconference interviews were conducted. We contacted 58 participants and 25 were interviewed (43% response rate). Data were analysed thematically. The analysis produced four overarching themes: (1) feelings relating to their involvement in the service, (2) perceptions of teamwork, (3) perceptions of ATS leadership, (4) valuing the opportunity for career development. Agile and inclusive leadership style created psychological safety and team cohesion, which facilitated participants in the implementation of a rapid mitigation service, at pace and scale. Specific features of the ATS (shared vision, collaboration, networking, skills acquisition) instilled self-confidence, value and belonging, meaningfully impacting on professional development and career opportunities. This is the first qualitative study to explore the experiences of university employees engaged in the rapid deployment of a service as part of a pandemic outbreak and mitigation strategy within a higher education setting. Despite pressures and challenges of the task, professional growth and advancement were universal. This has implications for workforce engagement and creating workplaces across the sector that are well-prepared to respond to future pandemics and other disruptive events.

In dense Wi-Fi networks, achieving load balancing is critical to optimize network utilization and provide equitable network consumption among the users. Traditional Wi-Fi networks have issues in attaining effective load balancing. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has presented a viable solution by isolating the data plane and control plane, enabling more agile and cost-effective networks. In this paper we put forward an Adaptive Symmetrical Load Balancing (ASLB) scheme to ensure fairness of load symmetry in Software Defined Wi-Fi Networks (SD-Wi-Fi), while also optimizing the flows transition process using an Analytical Hierarchal Process (AHP). User activity is monitored by access points (APs), which operate under OpenFlow standards. Three essential features, packet volume, packet category and delay hindrance, are used for flow assignment to various controllers. The controllers are arranged in two tiers, universal and regional controllers. The universal controller (UC) handles the workload statistics of regional controllers (RC) in the form of clusters. Extensive simulations using OMNeT++ simulator are performed. The performance parameters taken into consideration are throughput, delay, packet loss rate, network transition count and workload distribution. Our findings demonstrate that the ASLB technique effectively optimizes the network utilization and ensures equitable network consumption among the end users. The proposed scheme outperforms the Mean Probe Delay scheme (MPD), Channel Measurement-based Access Selection scheme (CMAS), Received Signal Strength Indicator-based scheme (RSSI) and Distributed Antenna Selection scheme (DASA), being 40% higher in throughput and 25% lower in delay.

With the increased frequency and intensity of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks on critical cloud-hosted services, resource adaptation schemes adopted by the cloud service providers (CSPs) need to be intelligent. Specifically, they need to be adaptable to attack behavior and be dynamic to curb resource over-utilization. The concept of moving target defense (MTD) has recently emerged as an effective and agile defense mechanism against DoS attacks that particularly target cloud-hosted applications. However, the existing surveys that seek to explore this space either focus more on MTD for generic cyberattack mitigation or on DoS attack defense on cloud systems. In this survey, we particularly provide an in-depth analysis on how MTD can help recover critical cloud assets in the face of DoS attacks and how emerging programmable technologies such as software-defined networking (SDN) can be leveraged to achieve that goal. Unlike existing surveys, we categorize DoS attacks on cloud platforms based on their working mechanism. We also discuss the non-MTD-based DoS defense strategies for both cloud and non-cloud infrastructures in order to highlight the pros and cons of MTD-based strategies. We introduce MTD working mechanisms and present how existing research is envisioning MTD’s application in mitigating DoS attacks, both with and without SDN. We also take an in-depth look at the testbed implementations and resilience and performance evaluations of MTD approaches. Finally, we articulate the existing challenges in MTD for DoS mitigation in cloud systems and how these challenges are shaping the future research in this domain.

Purpose Many organizations in Hong Kong have witnessed a reduction in average space usage due to high occupancy costs. New working practices (NWPs) are viewed as a reform tool to manage expensive real estate around the world. However, it is unclear whether NWPs influence office space usage in business organizations in Hong Kong. This study, therefore, aims to evaluate if the average space reduction in office firms is caused by the NWPs in the finance, insurance, real estate and business (FIREB) firms. Design/methodology/approach A total of 20 NWPs were initially derived from the extant literature. A questionnaire survey was conducted with listed FIREB firms in Hong Kong to assess the impact of the identified NWPs on space usage. The data collected from the questionnaire survey were analysed using descriptive, explorative factor analysis (EFA) and partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to evaluate the effects of NWPs on average space usage. Findings Results revealed that four major NWP factors influence average space usage. Three of these factors, namely, “flexible arrangement”, “multitasking knowledge workers” and “teamwork and communication”, influence space usage positively. Even though the effect of the fourth factor “training and networking” was significant, it does not reflect a positive influence on space usage. Business organizations can focus more on the implementation of NWPs to cushion the effects of the high cost of occupancy. Originality/value The research provides new knowledge to the limited literature on the effect of NWPs in FIREB firms and enriches the growing body of international literature on how today’s competitive global business organizations should revisit their workplace strategies to accommodate the rising agile workforce and NWPs. The findings offer new insights into the ongoing debate on the impact of information and communication technology-enabled NWPs on space usage. From the real estate perspective, the findings should inform policymaking towards the better planning ahead of office properties to accommodate NWPs, helping Hong Kong to remain competitive as a key financial centre.

The development of the telecommunication networks observed in present and future time is impressive. Today we witness rapid implementation of 5G networks. We can say that this actually is the moment when (artificial intelligence) AI enters at small door but in the beyond 5G world it is expected to have the prime role in smart operation, management and maintenance of non-software defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV) and especially at SDN and NFV aware networks. Number of standardization body’s and work groups are focused in a way to create a framework that will define the future use of AI and security standards necessary to exist in order to create health environment for the next generation telecommunication infrastructure. In the wireless world AI/Machine learning (ML) has great potential to shake the way we operate and to become foundation of the transformation that leads to the next industrial revolution. Network virtualization gives flexibility and freedom of the telco operators to choose the hardware and network topology they need for AI/ML platforms and big data sets. 5G and IoT create positive environment for AI and ML development and usage. As the network requirements are developed and the number of the users raises, gains are expected to grow with the number of variables and the interactions among them so it becomes impossible to relay on humans to control the network for increased number of variables and this is why AI with ML and automation become beneficial and necessity to run the future networks. AI generally is defined as capacity of mind or ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills while ML is defined as learning that does not require explicit programming. Combined usage of AI and ML can optimize almost any component of the wireless network, this does not mean that it should be used everywhere mainly because at the end of the day the cost benefit analysis of its usage must be positive. Smart operation, management and infrastructure maintenance (SOMM) networks are defined as: Intelligent, data driven, integrated and agile. Today AI is introduced but in future it will represent the network engine. It is interesting to mention that network security must be upgraded because the network will provide services for massive number of IoT devices that will have variety of functions and requests. AI/ML can improve the security services and to be used in order to elevate them at advanced level. Digitization is omnipresent and digital transformations are thus constantly taking place in all areas of society. Of course, education is also subject to these changes. Since it is an absolute prerequisite for both the future security of society and the development of the individual, it must be innovated continuously in order to guarantee the future opportunities of future generations. To ensure that these developments can be planned and shaped systematically, there are varieties of initiatives by education stakeholders. Current studies emphasize that the further digitisation of education is a very complex and demanding process, although successful theories, concepts and models already exist.Although the key role of the digitisation of education is taken into account, the new challenge of the interplay between human and artificial intelligence is emerging. Artificial intelligence has been researched and taught for many years, especially in the context of knowledge-based systems], but with digitisation it is gaining a completely new status and an exploding range of applications. The individual field of artificial intelligence is increasingly linked with other scientific fields in an interdisciplinary way, resulting in new methodological, technological, social and ethical challenges. Existing target systems in research and teaching are not to be replaced completely, but should rather be questioned and further developed in a very comprehensive way. For this reason, the proven problem-solving processes are being made more dynamic and agile. They will be optimised with the methods and means of digitisation as well as artificial intelligence. Due to the omnipresence of digitization and artificial intelligence, all processes, structures and functions must also be reviewed and adapted in education.A prerequisite for this is a renaissance of the interaction of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and their combination with areas of humanities, economics and social sciences. Applications of artificial intelligence are finding their way into all the above-mentioned scientific fields and promote their networking. These developments are already becoming visible in complex research and education projects, making it possible to demonstrate the sustainability of the new approaches in an exemplary manner. However, the rapid development of digitalisation in general and of artificial intelligence in particular is generating distortions in the systems. Seeking solutions for them is also on the agenda of research and teaching. This paper contributes to this debate by applying a systemic approach to develop a new understanding of the relationships between digitalisation and artificial intelligence. First, an overview of digitalisation in education as well as of smart systems based on human and artificial intelligence will be presented. The next section of this paper explains the theoretical basis of this research before discussing a specific example of STEAM influence on education. Finally, ethical borders of digitalisation and AI in education are highlighted.

Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) disparities are a particularly devastating manifestation of health inequity. Despite advancements in prevention and treatment, CVD is still the leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, research indicates that African American (AA) and other ethnic-minority populations are affected by CVD at earlier ages than white Americans. Given that AAs are the fastest-growing population of smartphone owners and users, mobile health (mHealth) technologies offer the unparalleled potential to prevent or improve self-management of chronic disease among this population. Objective To address the unmet need for culturally tailored primordial prevention CVD–focused mHealth interventions, the MOYO app was cocreated with the involvement of young people from this priority community. The overall project aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a novel smartphone app designed to reduce CVD risk factors among urban-AAs, 18-29 years of age. Methods The theoretical underpinning will combine the principles of community-based participatory research and the agile software development framework. The primary outcome goals of the study will be to determine the usability, acceptability, and functionality of the MOYO app, and to build a cloud-based data collection infrastructure suitable for digital epidemiology in a disparity population. Changes in health-related parameters over a 24-week period as determined by both passive (eg, physical activity levels, sleep duration, social networking) and active (eg, use of mood measures, surveys, uploading pictures of meals and blood pressure readings) measures will be the secondary outcome. Participants will be recruited from a majority AA “large city” school district, 2 historically black colleges or universities, and 1 urban undergraduate college. Following baseline screening for inclusion (administered in person), participants will receive the beta version of the MOYO app. Participants will be monitored during a 24-week pilot period. Analyses of varying data including social network dynamics, standard metrics of activity, percentage of time away from a given radius of home, circadian rhythm metrics, and proxies for sleep will be performed. Together with external variables (eg, weather, pollution, and socioeconomic indicators such as food access), these metrics will be used to train machine-learning frameworks to regress them on the self-reported quality of life indicators. Results This 5-year study (2015-2020) is currently in the implementation phase. We believe that MOYO can build upon findings of classical epidemiology and longitudinal studies like the Jackson Heart Study by adding greater granularity to our knowledge of the exposures and behaviors that affect health and disease, and creating a channel for outreach capable of launching interventions, clinical trials, and enhancements of health literacy. Conclusions The results of this pilot will provide valuable information about community cocreation of mHealth programs, efficacious design features, and essential infrastructure for digital epidemiology among young AA adults.

PurposeThis study aims to examine the joint impact of networking capability and agile project management on organizational agility of telecommunication technology providers' in Indonesia. The study also examines the moderating role of market orientation as a predominant strategic orientation on the relationship between agile project management and organizational agility.Design/methodology/approachResearch data were collected via a questionnaire survey from the executive management of telecommunication technology providers in Indonesia to obtain 150 valid questionnaires for analysis. This study analyzed the overall model fit and causal relationship using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling.FindingsThe results indicate that networking capability positively affects organizational agility. However, agile project management's significant effect on organizational agility occurs only when the relationship is moderated by market orientation. The results of the study also demonstrate that organizational agility positively affects organizational performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is based on a cross-sectional nature and might fail to capture the studied variables' dynamic over an extended period.Originality/valueThe study enriches the previous literature in organizational agility by presenting the collective impact of networking capability and agile project management and the moderating role of market orientation. However, dissimilar with major prior studies, the results indicate that agile project management's direct effect on organizational agility is not significant. Agile project management needs to be moderated by market orientation to create exceptional customer values and overcome the competition for the organization to achieve organizational agility, responsiveness and adaptability to address customers' needs and requirements. Furthermore, the study's result corroborates the importance of organizational agility to achieve organizational performance in the highly dynamic telecommunication industry.

Software Defined Networking is a new rising technique that allows to separate the planes. This emerging technology provides agility and flexibility to a network. Agile means the administrator can automatically adjust the network traffic to meet the changing needs. Its main aim is to make the network devices by using softwareand controlling the networking devices using software. It is attained by using in Mininet software. The SDN is implemented using the OF Protocol in the ONF Software. It is done by using Open flow switch and mainly for accurate communication done by the open flow switch. Here it gives accurate connection and the information is transmitted in the form of packets and delivered correctly to the server or other user, etc., Open flow switch has two types where centralized switch is used here.

Wireless network virtualization (WNV) is an evolving technology that supports networking for future wireless networks and agile IoT applications that optimize wireless bandwidth, provide network protection, and increase network performance in general. However, the exponential growth and increased demand for IoT have posed considerable scalability problems, interoperability, and heterogeneity across diverse fields from intelligent cities to healthcare, urban computing, and tactile fast internet growth. In this paper, IoT-based WNV (IoT-WNV) technology has been used. The leading technologies that create a scalable and stable network, consistent with many IoT products, for effective wireless virtualization in next-generation agile IoT systems are the networking function virtualization (NFV), mobile edge computing, and software-defined networks (SDNs). The network function virtualization (NFV) feature improves network stability, while the SDN operates, optimizes, and configures network services dynamically, enabling dynamically-based network functionality and interconnectivity. This special problem involves virtualizing IoT system wireless sensor networks to speed up network resource management by analyzing data obtained from devices deployed in various applications. This technological combination will satisfy the demands of modern applications. IoT-WNV aims to improve wireless virtualization for the next-generation network by implementing human-smart technology for load balance, network management, and network security.
