ObjectivesTo identify the prevalence of human papillomavirus genotypes – as a single infection or co-infection – not included in the 9-valent (9v) HPV vaccine among women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2–3).MethodsRetrospective study of 1700 women referred due to abnormal cytology to Sant Joan de Deu Hospital. We selected 849 patients with CIN 2 or CIN 3 diagnosis confirmed by biopsy. An HPV test, a second cytology, and colposcopy were performed on all patients.Those with abnormal colposcopy underwent cervical biopsy. Patients with abnormal cytology and normal colposcopy or transformation zone type 3 underwent endocervical curetage. Conization was performed if punch biopsy or endocervical curetage confirmed CIN 2–3 or if a CIN 1 lesion persisted (diagnosed by biopsy) over 2 years in patients over 25 years of age. Comparisons for qualitative variables were analyzed with the chi-squared test. Analysis of variance was used for comparisons involving more than two samples.ResultsHPV was detected in 746 of 849 patients (87.9%) and in 306 (41%) of those where more than one HPV genotype was present. The more frequent genotypes detected as single infection were: HPV-16 (267/849%–31.4%), HPV 31 (34/849–4%), HPV-33 (20/849%–2.4%), HPV-58 (17/849%–2%), HPV-51 (15/849%–1.8%), and HPV-53 (12/849%–1.4%). The more frequent genotypes isolated including multiple HPV infection were HPV-16 (427/849%–50.2%), HPV-31 (108/849%–12.7%), HPV-51 (79/849%–9.3%), HPV-33 (67/849%–7.8%), HPV-58 (67/849%–7.8%), and HPV-52 (59/849%–6.9%). In total, 78% of women diagnosed with CIN 2 or CIN 3 had an infection by a HPV genotype included in the 9v vaccine. Of the 849 women diagnosed with CIN 2 or CIN 3, 103 (12.1%) tested negative for HPV and 106 (12.4%) tested positive for low-risk HPV types.ConclusionsInclusion of HPV-51, 53, 66, and 35 in a new vaccine may not be advisable as most are detected as coinfection with other high-risk genotypes that are already included in the current vaccines.

Activation of several protein kinases is mediated, at least in part, by phosphorylation of conserved Thr or Tyr residues located in a variable loop region, near the active site. In certain kinases, this activation loop also controls access of peptide substrates to the active site. In the corresponding region of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor, a potential phosphorylation site, Tyr-845, does not appear to have a major regulatory role. In order to find out whether this variable loop can modulate the peptide phosphorylation and self-phosphorylation activities of the EGF receptor kinase, we investigated the role of residues around Tyr-845, using site-directed mutagenesis. Multiple sequence alignment showed that residues Glu-842, Glu-844 and His-846 are conserved or nearly conserved in eight members of the EGF receptor family. Mutants Glu-842-->Ser, Glu-844-->Gln and His-846-->Ala were expressed in the baculovirus/insect cell system, purified to near-homogeneity and characterized with respect to their peptide phosphorylation and self-phosphorylation activities. All three mutants were active, and these changes did not affect ATP binding directly. However, all mutations increased the Km(app.) for peptide substrates and MnATP in peptide phosphorylation reactions. The Vmax. for the phosphorylation of peptide RREELQDDYEDD was unaltered, but the Vmax. for self-phosphorylation (with variable [MnATP]) decreased 4-, 2- and 7-fold for mutants Glu-842-->Ser, Glu-844-->Gln and His-846-->Ala respectively, compared with the wild-type. These results suggest that binding of this peptide restored an optimal conformation at the active site that might be impaired by the mutations. A study of the dependence of initial rates of self-phosphorylation on cytoplasmic domain concentration showed that the order of reaction increased with the progress of self-phosphorylation. Both pre-phosphorylation and high concentrations of ammonium sulphate restored maximal or near-maximal levels of self-phosphorylation in the mutants, possibly through compensating conformational changes. A plausible homology model, based on the cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit, accommodated the sequence Glu-841-Glu-Lys-Glu as an insertion in the peptide binding loop at the edge of the active site cleft. The model suggests that Glu-844 and His-846 may participate in H-bonding interactions, thus stabilizing the active site region, while Glu-842 does not appear to interact with regions of the catalytic core.

The laccase producing abilities of four Basidiomycete fungi species were compared using solid-state fermentation using four different lignocellulosic residues. The biosynthetic potential of the Basidiomycetes was highly dependent on the type of fungi. In general, the laccase secreting ability of Cerrena unicolor Han 849 was greater than Lenzites betulinus Han 851, Stropharia rugosoannulata Han 1321, and Auricularia heimuer Han 1333. The maximum laccase production of C. unicolor Han 849 was approximately 11.25, 122.26, and 15.27 times higher than L. betulinus Han 851, S. rugosoannulata Han 1321 and A. heimuer Han 1333, respectively. Different species of fungi had a preference in lignocellulosic residues. The presence of Firmiana platanifolia was conducive to secreting laccase via C. unicolor Han 849 during solid-state fermentation. A continuous and stable laccase production via C. unicolor Han 849 was an obvious advantage of solid-state fermentation with any of the four lignocellulosic residues used. The maximum laccase production of C. unicolor Han 849 using Firmiana platanifolia was approximately 2.12, 1.68, and 6.13 times higher than Populus beijingensis, Sorghum bicolor, and Oryza sativa, respectively. These findings will be helpful for developing new productivity strains in industrial applications and selecting suitable lignocellulosic residues for laccase production.

AbstractAcinetobacter spp. are important healthcare pathogens, being closely linked to antibiotic resistance and outbreaks worldwide. Although such species are rarely observed in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), we describe the characteristics of 53 strains of Acinetobacter spp. isolated from the sputum of 39 Brazilian patients with CF. The species distribution was A. baumannii (n = 29), A. pittii (n = 13), A. nosocomialis (n = 8), A. seifertii (n = 1), A. soli (n = 1) and A. variabilis (n = 1) determined by partial rpoB gene sequencing. Sixteen strains (10 A. baumannii, 3 A. pittii and 3 A. nosocomialis) were multidrug-resistant (MDR) by disk diffusion test (30%) and eight MDR carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii strains harboured the blaOXA-23-like oxacillinase gene. Thirty-three sequence types (STs) were identified by multilocus sequence typing of which eight were novel (A. baumannii: 843, 844, 845, 847, 848; A. pitti: 643; A. nosocomialis: 862 and A. seifertii: 846); six STs (2 A. baumannii, 3 A. pittii and 1 A. nosocomialis) were found in more than one patient. Four strains of A. baumannii were assigned to two common clonal complexes (CCs), namely, CC1 (ST1, ST20 and ST160), and CC79 (ST79). This study underlines the extensive species diversity of Acinetobacter spp. strains in CF lung infections which may present difficulties for therapy due to significant antimicrobial resistance.

The purpose of this study is to secure literature on intermediate exercises music by comparing and analyzing the difficulty and technique of Czerny op.849 and Heller op.45. For this study, the difficulty of the two exercises was reclassified into 6-8 based on Magrath book, piano practice teaching method, reference literature, and the techniques were analyzed into 10 types within the learning goal of intermediate level exercises. As a result, in Heller op.45, the upper techniques of each difficult exercise are more evenly distributed than in Czerny op.849, and the finger-centered techniques and lower techniques for musical expression appear. Therefore, as a detailed classification of exercises with similar difficulty and high-level techniques, Heller op.45 is selected as alternative exercise music for Czerny op.849, supplementary technique exercise music, and work. It will be an important teaching method that broadens the range of selection of intermediate study literature for domestic piano teachers and students who rely only on Czerny op.849.

The identification of cereal and horticultural varieties are important for registration and agricultural systems. The traditional way to variety identification is the recording of morphological characters using descriptors. But molecular markers may serve as a modern and suitable approach to variety identification such as ISSR. The objective of the study was to identify the 17 ISSR primers, 801~849, for varietal identification of six wheat varieties, Darkhan-34, Darkhan-166 (Arvin), Darkhan-131, Darkhan-144, Khalkhgol-1 and Tsogt. As a result of ISSR marker observation on varieties, Arvin can be identified with 817, Khalkhgol-1 with 817 and 827, Tsogt with 822, Darkhan-34 with 830, Darkhan-131 with 830 and 848 and Darkhan-144 with 827, 830 and 848 primers. Among the surveyed ISSR primers, five can be used as variety-specific primers, 817, 827, 822, 830 and 848.

Directives 2015/849 and 2018/843 on money laundering require continuous adaptations of the legal framework to respond to threats of the use of new technologies in money laundering. Directive 2018/843 extends the scope of Directive 2015/849 to ‘providers engaged in exchange services between virtual currencies and fiat currencies, as well as custodian wallet providers’. Undoubtedly, the new payment systems facilitate money launderers’ criminal activity. These systems are better than cash for moving large sums of money, non-face to face business relationships favour the use of straw buyers and false identities, the absence of credit risk, as there is usually a prepaid option, discourages service providers from obtaining complete and accurate customer information, and the nature of the trade and the speed of transactions make it difficult to control property or freezing. However, the development of technologies, including the Internet, has unquestionable advantages involved and even provides, through online resources, verification of identity or other duty of surveillance for the prevention of money laundering. In addition, the reform of June 22, 2010 introduced in Spain the criminal liability of legal persons and incorporated money laundering, together with other crimes, to this innovative model of criminal responsibility. Soon after, Organic Law 1/2015, of March 30, modified the hitherto barely applied regulation. In conclusion, the use of dummy corporations for money laundering is frequent, as is evidenced by the judgements of the Supreme Court of June 26, 2012 and February 4, 2015, but until recently the accessory consequences and the doctrine of piercing the corporate veil were sufficient.

A nogueira-macadâmia produz frutos do tipo folículo, cuja parte comestível é a semente, com alto valor agregado no mercado internacional e com grande aceitação pelos consumidores. No Brasil, sabe-se que a época de colheita dos frutos da nogueira-macadâmia inicia-se em meados de fevereiro, porém, não se conhece o potencial produtivo dos diversos cultivares disponíveis nas condições brasileiras. O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar a produção e a amplitude de colheita de cultivares de nogueira-macadâmia, no município de Itapira, SP. Para o experimento, foram utilizados dez cultivares de nogueira-macadâmia (HAES 722, IAC Campinas-B, 791 Fuji, HAES 842, HAES 849, HAES 814, HAES 344, IAC 9-20X, IAC 9-20 e HAES 816), sendo quantificadas durante três safras, em Itapira, SP, o número de frutos e a massa de colheita (produção e produtividade estimada), calculando-se, posteriormente, a massa média dos frutos. Concluiu-se que a produção da nogueira-macadâmia, em Itapira, SP, inicia-se em meados de fevereiro e estende-se até o final de junho. IAC 9-20 foi o cultivar mais precoce e, HAES 722, o mais tardio, enquanto o HAES 344 proporcionou a menor amplitude de colheita e 791 Fuji e HAES 849 as maiores. Os cultivares IAC 9-20X, IAC 9-20 e HAES 816 apresentaram o maior desempenho produtivo.

Resumo:

Cold gases of Rydberg atoms are an ideal system in which to study the novel effects of strong interatomic interactions. This thesis describes the design and construction of the world's first experiment to study Rydberg states in a cold gas of an alkaline earth metal, in this particular case strontium. We have studied a wide range of Rydberg states, and have developed a sensitive ``step-scan" spectroscopic technique that detects the spontaneous ionization of the Rydberg gas. The step-scan method is used to acquire Stark maps, and these measurements verify a single-electron model for calculating dipole matrix-elements. From the matrix-elements, interaction strengths between strontium Rydberg atoms have been calculated for the first time. The presence of two valence electrons in an alkaline earth metal, such as strontium, offers a new angle on the study of Rydberg atoms. We create doubly excited ``autoionizing" states, the first such study in a cold gas. Autoionization is used as a high yield probe of Rydberg states, and enables a study of excitation dynamics with nanosecond time-resolution. We show that autoionization can quantitatively identify and elucidate state mixing in the Rydberg gas, and probe population transfer at the very onset of ultra-cold plasma formation.

Over the last fifteen years, the sex doll industry has grown from producing inexpensive novelty items to creating a multimillion-dollar global industry featuring high- quality, realistic love dolls. These dolls are designed and advertised for sexual stimulation, companionship, artistic representations of human fantasy, and other creative pursuits, such as photography. Made of flesh-like silicone, modern sex dolls sell from $3,500-$10,000. The use of human simulacra for sexual stimulation is an enduring practice. However, the psychological community has said little on the subject. Early sexologists briefly reference Agalmatophilia or Statuphilia, a rare sexual attachment to statues. Today, the sex doll phenomenon appears increasingly prevalent across the globe. Media coverage of this phenomenon has been featured in online magazines, television programs, music, documentaries and major motion pictures. More often than not, sex doll-ownership is portrayed as pathological. Sex doll-owners are members of a marginalized population, and accessing the population is challenging as many members of the community wish to remain anonymous for fear of judgment, persecution, and psychiatric labeling. The purpose of this study was to increase psychology’s understanding of this interesting and growing population. Specifically, a 45-item online survey addressing demographics was constructed and assessed. Additionally, participants were asked to describe their relationship status, doll-ownership status, and satisfaction with human and sex doll partners, including sexual satisfaction and performance. Quality of life was also assessed via the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Sixty-one participants were recruited from an online doll-owner community forum. It was hypothesized that most doll-owners sampled would be middle-aged, White, single, heterosexual males who are neither significantly better nor worse in terms of psycho-sexual functioning and life satisfaction than the general population. Descriptive data and statistical analysis partially supported the hypotheses. Implications and future direction are discussed, as are methodological considerations.

Context-aware computing utilizes information about users and/or their environments in order to provide relevant information and services. To date, however, most context-aware applications only take advantage of contexts that can either be produced on the device they are running on, or on external devices that are known beforehand. While there are many application domains where sharing context is useful and/or necessary, creating these applications is currently difficult because there is no easy way for devices to share information without 1) explicitly directing them to do so, or 2) through some form of advanced user coordination (e.g., sharing credentials and/or IP addresses, installing and running the same software). This makes these techniques useful when the need to share context is known a priori, but impractical for the one time, opportunistic encounters which make up the majority of users’ lives. To address this problem, this thesis presents the Group Context Framework (GCF), a software framework that allows devices to form groups and share context with minimal prior coordination. GCF lets devices openly discover and request context from each other. The framework then lets devices intelligently and autonomously forms opportunistic groups and work together without requiring either the application developer or the user to know of these devices beforehand. GCF supports use cases where devices only need to share information once or spontaneously. Additionally, the framework provides standardized mechanisms for applications to collect, store, and share context. This lets devices form groups and work together, even when they are performing logically separate tasks (i.e., running different applications). Through the development of GCF, this thesis identifies the conceptual and software abstractions needed to support opportunistic groups in context-aware applications. As part of our design process, we looked at current contextsharing applications, systems, and frameworks, and developed a conceptual model that identifies the most common conditions that cause users/devices to form a group. We then created a framework that supports grouping across this entire model. Through the creation of four prototype systems, we show how the ability to form opportunistic groups of devices can increase users and devices’ access to timely information and services. Finally, we had 20 developers evaluate GCF, and verified that the framework supports a wide range of existing and novel use cases. Collectively, this thesis demonstrates the utility of opportunistic groups in context-aware computing, and highlights the critical challenges that need to be addressed to make opportunistic context sharing both practical and usable in real-world settings. The contributions of this thesis are: 1. A conceptual model, based on an analysis of prior literature, which describes the conditions under which users and/or devices form and work in groups. 2. An implementation of the Group Context Framework, which highlights the software abstractions and architecture needed to support all of the group types identified in our conceptual model. 3. A demonstration of the value of opportunistic groups in context aware computing, through the creation of four major systems and numerous smaller applications. 4. A validation of GCF’s robustness, through an examination of 65 ideas submitted by 20 developers. 5. An examination of the challenges associated with utilizing opportunistic groups in context-aware applications, based on our own experiences using GCF, as well as from issues raised by developers from academia and industry.

This quantitative study investigated faculty trust in their immediate supervisors (academic deans and faculty chairs) in a state college setting. A survey instrument created for this study was based on existing research on trust in schools by Bryk and Schneider (2002) and Tschannen-Moran and Hoy (1998), as well as research on trust in corporate setting. The study’s purpose was to determine the types and frequencies of interactions between community college faculty and deans/faculty chairs – i.e., faculty immediate supervisors – that are related to higher levels of faculty trust. Also investigated were the relationships between faculty trust and demographic characteristics including age, gender, ethnicity, length of employment, and number of faculty in department. The study’s findings suggest policies and practices for creating more trusting environments in community and state college settings, thereby leading to higher faculty retention levels. These, in turn, can contribute to increased levels of student success, higher graduation rates, and financial savings for schools.

In this thesis, red flags for dangerousness/lethality established from domestic violence and homicide research provided the social framework for an examination of legal responses to violence in intimate heterosexual relationships. The research investigated these gendered, structural patterns of violence and the effectiveness of criminal justice interventions in keeping victims safe. Agency interactions with offenders and victims prior to women's deaths were reviewed in selected cases. Criminal law constructions of violence in intimate relationships were evaluated for their recognition and understanding of primary risk factors for dangerousness/lethality. The research found major red flags remain invisible in criminal law stereotypes of violence between intimates. The significance of these risk factors for dangerousness/lethality is therefore overlooked, misunderstood and even misrepresented in defence of violent offenders. Although the aim of the Domestic Violence Act 1995 is to ensure effective protection for victims, the study found a significant number of women (and sometimes other family members and children) experience further sub-lethal and lethal violence following legal interventions with perpetrators. Lacking a principled policy foundation, central focus on victim safety and clear framework for interventions, legal responses are internally incoherent and inconsistent with New Zealand Family Violence Prevention Strategy. The New Zealand government has committed to principled domestic violence intervention and consistency in law and policy. This will require: a) legislative reform; b) public and professional education on the dynamics of violent relationships, including the interrelationship between sublethal and lethal assaults; and c) monitoring of criminal justice interventions to improve accountability. Until this is accomplished, stories of abused women and their children, including informal attempts to seek help and contact with state and community agencies will continue to be dishonoured by a legal system which silences their voices and fails to learn lessons from their injuries and deaths.

Key regulatory events take place at very early stages of human embryonic stem cell (hESC) differentiation to accommodate their ability to differentiate into different lineages; this work examines two separate regulatory events. To investigate precise mechanisms that link alterations in the cell cycle and early differentiation, we examined the initial stages of mesendodermal lineage commitment and observed a cell cycle pause that occurred concurrently with an increase in genes that regulate the G2/M transition, including WEE1. Inhibition of WEE1 prevented the G2 pause. Directed differentiation of hESCs revealed that cells paused during commitment to the endo- and mesodermal, but not ectodermal, lineages. Functionally, WEE1 inhibition during meso- and endodermal differentiation selectively decreased expression of definitive endodermal markers SOX17 and FOXA2. These findings reveal a novel G2 cell cycle pause required for endodermal differentiation. A role for phenotypic transcription factors in very early differentiation is unknown. From a screen of candidate factors during early mesendodermal differentiation, we found that RUNX1 is selectively and transiently up-regulated. Transcriptome and functional analyses upon RUNX1 depletion established a role for RUNX1 in promoting cell motility. In parallel, we discovered a loss of repression for several epithelial genes, indicating that RUNX1 knockdown impaired an epithelial to mesenchymal transition during differentiation. Cell biological and biochemical approaches revealed that RUNX1 depletion compromised TGFβ2 signaling. Both the decrease in motility and deregulated epithelial marker expression upon RUNX1 depletion were rescued by reintroduction of TGFβ2, but not TGFβ1. These findings identify novel roles for RUNX1-TGFβ2 signaling in mesendodermal lineage commitment.

Resumo:

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder has garnered controversy in the United States since it became a widely diagnosed disorder in American schoolchildren in the 1970s. Both diagnosis and treatment are sites of controversy. Some believe the disorder is a contrivance of parents and teachers who do not want to deal with hardly exceptional childhood difficulties, or a contrivance of pharmaceutical companies taking advantage of such parents and teachers. Others believe that a neurobiological basis for the disorder will eventually be discovered, and thus will legitimize both the diagnosis and the practice of prescribing medication for treatment. I utilize the Science, Technology, and Society approach of actor network theory to show that these multiple understandings of ADHD can coexist, since ADHD is a complex product of external and internal agents. This will demonstrate how cultural shifts and values cause parents, teachers, and doctors to evaluate childhood in a way that frames certain behaviors as harmful. I also evaluate how cultural values of medicalization center issues in the individual rather than in external factors, and assess the values that psychiatric treatment appeals to and whether they primarily serve the needs of children. I conclude that ADHD is a heavily context-dependent disorder, but that that does not delegitimize harmful effect on children who exhibit ADHD-associated behaviors. I also conclude that the current dominant medicalized approach to ADHD is not optimal because it focuses on only a few of the total factors that make ADHD a pathological disorder for children in the contemporary United States.

The purpose of this study was to examine if Division I Collegiate Athletic Trainers' (ATs') perceived.quality of their relationship, with a head coach, is associated with total job satisfaction. The study was driven by three questions: 1) Does a correlation exist between ATs' perceptions of the quality of the coach-AT relationship and total job satisfaction? 2) Will either the direct or the meta-perspective held by the AT be significant predictors of overall job satisfaction? and 3) Will ATs' assumed similarity be a significant predictor of overall job satisfaction? In order to examine this issue, ATs assigned to NCAA division I institution's baseball or softball team were given a compendium survey. The survey was composed of the Job Satisfaction Survey (Spector, 1994), a modified Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (CART-Q) (Jowett & Ntoumanis, 2004), and a modified meta Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (meta CART-Q). The surveys measured ATs' total job satisfaction.and satisfaction with various job sub factors, and their direct and meta-perspectives of their relationship with their coach, respectively. Correlational and regression analyses were used to determine the influence and predictability of aspects of a quality relationship to total job satisfaction. The findings demonstrate that ATs' perception of the quality of certain aspects of their relationship with a head coach is related to overall job satisfaction. This indicates that greater efforts need to be taken to improve overall coach-AT relationship dynamics. Improving the dynamics is needed to improve conditions that can cause unacceptably low levels of job satisfaction, which lead to burnout and attrition. The quality of the coach-AT relationship and its impact on Job satisfaction needs to be recognized as a contributing factor to AT job satisfaction. Understanding the coach-AT relationship can help direct measures to address decreased job satisfaction levels and stave off attrition in athletic training.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Infrastructure has been hailed as a fundamental link between markets and other development sectors of the economy. For over a long time the delivery of infrastructure in Africa has been the domain of the public sector. However, because of the continued budgetary constraints, most governments are seeking the support of the private sector in the delivery of infrastructure. Recent studies have, however, revealed that private participation in infrastructure delivery is very low in Africa. The research noted that certain obstacles at macro level of the economy are responsible for the low private participation in infrastructure delivery. It is, therefore, important that we assess the methodologies that have been used to attract private sector participation in infrastructure delivery in Africa. One method that is gaining popularity in the developing world is the use of project finance. The research study sought to achieve two objectives. The first was to discover whether governance played a significant role in attracting foreign lenders to use project finance in the delivery of infrastructure in Africa. The second objective was to find out, given that governance does matter, which of the governance indicators were important and what their relationship was with loan syndication. The study adopted a quantitative approach using six governance indicators as independent variables. The governance indicators are compiled by a team at the World Bank and these governance indicators are available on the World Bank database. Loan tranches were used as observations for the dependent variable with the data for the tranches originating from loans that were advanced under project finance across Africa covering the period between 1996 and 2006. The multiple regression model also incorporated certain control variables the data for which were collected from various sources. Findings from the research study revealed that governance does matter and is positively related to loan syndication in project finance structures. It was revealed that all six governance indicators exerted a positive influence on loan syndication. The results also revealed that political instability and violence, and control of corruption were statistically insignificant. In addition it was found that rule of law exerted the most positive influence on the composition of loan syndication in project finance structures.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Infrastruktuur is al aangeprys as ‘n fundamentele skakel tussen markte en ander ontwikkelingsektore in die ekonomie. Die voorsiening van infrastruktuur in Afrika figureer lank reeds in die openbare sektor, maar as gevolg van die volgehoue begrotingsbeperkinge soek die meeste owerhede die steun van die privaatsektor wat betref die voorsiening van infrastruktuur. Onlangse studies het egter bevind dat private deelname in die aflewering van infrastuktuur in Afrika baie laag is. Die navorsing het aan die lig gebring dat daar sekere struikelblokke op die makrovlak van die ekonomie is wat verantwoordelik is vir die geringe privaat deelname in die voorsiening van infrastruktuur. Derhalwe is dit belangrik om die metodologieë wat gebruik is om privaatsektordeelname ten opsigte van infrastruktuurvoorsiening in Afrika te beoordeel. Een metode wat gewild raak in die Derde Wêreld, is die gebruik van projekfinansiering. Hierdie navorsingstudie probeer om twee doelwitte te bereik. Die eerste doelwit is om uit te vind of staatsbestuur ‘n betekenisvolle rol speel om buitelandse kredietverskaffers te lok om projekfinansiering vir infrastruktuuraflewering in Afrika te gebruik. Die tweede doelwit is om, gegewe staatsbestuur se belangrikheid, te bepaal watter van die staatsbestuuraanwysers belangrik is en wat hul verband met leningsindikasie is. Die studie het ‘n kwantitatiewe benadering gevolg en het ses staatsbestuuraanwysers gebruik as onafhanklike veranderlikes. Die staatsbestuuraanwyser is deur ‘n span van die Wêreldbank opgestel en die staatsbestuuraanwyswers is beskikbaar op die Wêreldbank se databasis. Leningdeel is gebruik as waarnemings vir die afhanklike veranderlike, en die data vir die leningdeel is afkomstig van lenings wat toegestaan is onder projekfinansiering dwarsoor Afrika vir die periode 1996 tot 2006. Die meervoudigeregressiemodel het ook sekere kontroleveranderlikes behels, en die data daarvoor is vanuit verskeie bronne ingewin. Die navorsingstudiebevindinge het aan die lig gebring dat staatsbestuur ter sake is en positief aansluit by die leningsindikasie in projekfinansieringstrukture. Dit het aan die lig gekom dat al ses staatsregeringsaanwysers ‘n positiewe invloed op leningsindikasie uitoefen. Resumo:

The analysis of the two versions of the life of Pope Sergius II (844-847) published by Louis Duchesne in his edition of the Liber pontificalis aims at identifying and discussing the tools developed by the Lateran to illustrate the relationship between the Apostolic See and Carolingian power at the time of the Emperor Lothair. I will first present the two versions of the life of Sergius and their circulation, then highlight the rhetorical strategies employed by the author to diminish the political significance of Louis II’s journey to Rome (844). Secondly, I will refer to the second part of the so-called Farnesianus version of the life of Sergius II. In this particular section, the author, before the incomplete report of the Saracen raid on the mouth of the Tiber and the sack of St. Peter's Basilica (846), critically describes the pontificate of Sergius II, dominated by the negative figure of the pontiff's brother, Benedict, who imposed his tyranny over Rome and its territory on behalf of the emperor (most likely as a missus on the imperial side). In this regard, it is interesting to evaluate which are the concealed arguments introduced here to represent the alleged effects of the application of the Constitutio Romana (824) on the socio-political structures of the city and on the history of the Roman Church, to offer a hypothesis on the context of the composition of this version of the life of Sergius II. In particular, I will dwell on the denouncing of the simoniacal heresy, shown to be have been triumphant during the pontificate of Sergius II, as sign of the re-emergence in Rome of a theme particularly strongly felt among the Carolingian reformers, and one which can perhaps be most associated with the pontificate of Sergius’ successor Leo IV (847-855).

Introdução: Dentre os marcadores de DNA baseados em PCR para estudos de diversidade, destaca-se o ISSR (Inter Simple Sequences Repeats), o qual apresenta vantagens como baixo custo relativo, alta reprodutibilidade e dispensa quanto aos conhecimentos prévios dos genomas. Objetivos: Estudar a otimização das condições de amplificação via PCR (gradientes de temperaturas de anelamento), envolvendo primers ISSR e os genomas de acessos de milhos crioulos (Zea mays L.) oriundos do Norte de Minas Gerais. Material e métodos: As extrações de DNAs seguiram um protocolo CTAB adaptado, utilizando-se folhas maduras de milhos crioulos. Para otimização das amplificações com primers ISSR (Coleção UCB, Canada), foram realizados testes de gradientes de temperaturas de anelamentos em termociclador configurado para o espectro de 45ºC a 65ºC, gerando 12 temperaturas dentro deste intervalo. As reações seguiram a seguinte programação: uma fase inicial de desnaturação a 94ºC por 5 min; seguida por 35 ciclos de [desnaturação (94ºC por 1 min), anelamento (45ºC a 65ºC por 1 min) e extensão (72ºC por 2 minutos)]; e uma fase de extensão final de 72ºC por 7 min / conservação a 4°C. Utilizou-se DNA's de dois indivíduos escolhidos em uma coleção de 44 acessos, variando-os a cada teste. Na placa de PCR (96 poços), testou-se quatro primers por reação, tendo as linhas como variantes de genótipos e primers; e colunas quanto às diferentes temperaturas. Resultados: Durante a execução do estudo, foram testados 56 primers ISSR, sendo que 34 deles caracterizam-se como sendo amplamente polimórficos, sob temperaturas de anelamento específicas identificadas nos gradientes: primers UCB 816, 820, 823, 828, 829, 836, 850, 880, 884 e 890 (46ºC); 808, 810, 812, 825, 827, 847, 849 e 855 (47ºC); 818 e 876 (48ºC); 848 (49ºC); 864, 865, 886, 887 e 889 (51ºC); 807, 830 e 888 (54ºC); 842, 856 e 866 (56ºC); 858 e 867 (59ºC). Quanto aos primers dispensados, 18 deles não amplificaram e quatro geraram apenas bandas monomórficas. Conclusão: A identificação prévia das temperaturas de anelamentos (PCR) que otimizem polimorfismos em uma população sob estudo, mostra-se como uma etapa imprescindível na otimização de tempo e insumos de Biologia Molecular.

Técnicas de Explicabilidade são métodos que auxiliam usuários a entender os resultados de um modelo de aprendizado de máquina. Nesse contexto, este trabalho investiga se a técnica de explicabilidade de Oclusão consegue gerar respostas similares às esperadas por humanos na classificação de palavras para o Reconhecimento de Entidades Nomeadas. Para isso, utilizou-se uma LSTM bidirecional e o conjunto de dados CoNLL 2003, bem como foi utilizado a anotação manual de 849 sentenças criando-se, assim, uma base de dados de referência. Os resultados mostram que a Oclusão é capaz de indicar pelo menos uma palavra relevante e compatível com a compreensão humana.

Resumo:

During recent years, interest has developed in the use of copper vapour laser light for precision machining applications. Urenco (Capenhurst) Ltd. has a major laser facility based on four chains of copper vapour lasers each capable of generating peak pulse powers of the order of 0.5 MW. This facility has been used to investigate the effect of beam characteristics on the quality of machining to develop a procedure for optimising parallel machining operations within the CLAMP program (EU 849). Figure 1 shows a schematic of the machining workstation.

Resumo:

As India prepares for the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), it is clear that the country’s population policy faces a number of serious challenges. Although India was the first country to announce an official family planning program in 1952, its population has grown from 361 million in 1951 to 844 million in 1991. This is one of three reports on the relationship between gender equity, family structure and dynamics, and the achievement of reproductive choice prepared by the Population Council for the 1994 International Year of the Family and the 1994 ICPD. These reports provide critical reviews of the relationship between gender inequality and demographic behavior in three demographically significant, culturally distinct parts of the developing world: Egypt, India, and Ghana and Kenya. The purpose of the reports is to help governments and international agencies design and implement policies that are affirmative of women, sensitive to the family’s central role in resource allocation and distribution, and effective in achieving broad-based population and development goals.

Resumo:

Review question / Objective: To investigate sonographic findings in post-stroke hemiplegic shoulders. Rationale: The incidence of post-stroke hemiplegic shoulder pain was high, ranging from 34% to 84%. Uncertainties remain regarding the prevalence, etiologies, and clinical implication of shoulder pathologies after stroke. Ultrasound has emerged as an accessible tool to diagnose diverse soft tissue problems Therefore, we undertake a meta-analysis to provide more rigorous understanding of the structural changes in post-stroke hemiplegic shoulders on ultrasound examination and hopefully to enhance the treatment strategy of hemiplegic shoulder pain.

En un Blog publicado recientemente sobre las utilidades del Banco de la República, se mostró que en 2023 estas provinieron principalmente del rendimiento de las reservas internacionales, las cuales en los últimos 10 años alcanzaron una participación promedio del 84 % dentro de los activos del Banco. La importancia de las reservas internacionales en el patrimonio y origen de las utilidades de esta entidad, y su función como respaldo a la balanza de pagos del país, exigen que su administración cumpla con estrictos criterios de seguridad, liquidez y rentabilidad.

Resumo:

This report presents an early assessment of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on agricultural commercialisation, food and nutrition security, labour and employment, and poverty and well-being in rural Ethiopia. Data was collected from a stratified random sample of 107 households (23 female- and 84 male-headed). Respondents were drawn from a subset of households interviewed in a 2018 APRA survey of smallholder rice farmers in five kebeles (villages) in the Fogera Plain area of Amhara Region. The COVID-19 household survey data is complemented by data from 23 key informant interviews conducted in the kebeles. The data collection for this COVID-19 study will be carried out over three rounds. This report presents insights obtained from the first round conducted during late June/early July 2020.
