The Raman spectrum of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) has been found to exhibit vibrational peaks in the region of 750 to 880 cm−1 that are sensitive to the degree of crystallinity. These features are broadly assigned to various modes of methyl group rocking, ρ(CH2), and there have been various attempts to assess crystallinity based on the integrated intensities of these bands. Various vibrational analyses performed in the past in combination with experimental studies have concluded that the presence of crystalline order with trans-gauche conformation gives rise to a peak at 809 cm−1, which is assigned to a ρ(CH2) mode coupled with the skeletal stretching mode. However, the presence of additional peaks at 830 cm−1, 841 cm−1, and 854 cm−1, within the same envelope, have been the subject of controversy. In this work isotropic films of iPP derived from the same precursor of identical tacticity have been subjected to various degrees of annealing and the integrated intensities of the Raman bands were measured. The results showed that true 3d crystallinity in isotropic iPP can only be expressed by the 809 cm−1 band whereas the band at 841 cm−1 corresponds to an uncoupled ρ(CH2) fundamental mode and thus is a measure of the amorphous content. The less intense satellite bands at 830 cm−1 and 854 cm−1 of solid iPP cannot be distinguished from the 841 cm−1 band in the melt and are generally considered as intermediate phases possibly related to non-crystalline components with 31-helical conformations. Independent differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) crystallinity measurements were in broad agreement with the Raman measurements based on the normalized intensity of the 809 cm−1 Raman band. By comparing the Raman with the DSC data a new value for the theoretical heat of fusion for the 100% crystalline iPP has been proposed.

Abstract We report on a remarkable change in the spectral energy distribution (SED) of Mrk 841, providing new insights on how the soft X-ray excess emission in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is produced. By Swift monitoring of a sample of Seyfert-1 galaxies, we found an X-ray spectral hardening event in Mrk 841. We thereby triggered our XMM-Newton, NuSTAR, and Hubble Space Telescope observations in 2022 to study this event. Our previous investigations of such events in other AGNs had shown that they are caused by obscuring winds. However, the event in Mrk 841 has different spectral characteristics and origin. We find it is the soft X-ray excess component that has become dimmer. This is, importantly, accompanied by a similar decline in the optical/UV continuum, suggesting a connection to the soft X-ray excess. In contrast, there is relatively little change in the X-ray power law and the reflection components. Our SED modeling suggests that the soft X-ray excess is the high-energy extension of the optical/UV disk emission, produced by warm Comptonization. We find the temperature of the disk dropped in 2022, explaining the observed SED dimming. We then examined the Swift data, taken over 15 yr, to further decipher the UV and X-ray variabilities of Mrk 841. A significant relation between the variabilities of the X-ray spectral hardness and that of the UV continuum is found, again suggesting that the soft excess and the disk emission are interlinked. This is readily explicable if the soft excess is produced by warm Comptonization.

Avec une valeur de remplacement de plus de 50 milliards de dollars et une longueur de 90 000 km, le réseau routier municipal représente une importante partie du patrimoine collectif québécois. Nul doute que la dégradation des infrastructures routières est au coeur des principales problématiques de gestion des municipalités québécoises et canadiennes. L'heure est à la gestion des infrastructures routières municipales. Le présent travail porte sur l'analyse de divers systèmes de gestion des chaussées, en particulier des modèles de dégradations les composant et des critères de sélection amenant à porter un jugement qualitatif et quantitatif sur l'état d'un réseau routier. Ce travail permet de mettre en évidence l'apport de plusieurs indicateurs de performances sur les choix d'analyse et le poids des différents défauts sur les choix stratégiques des interventions de réhabilitation. La réalisation de ce travail a impliqué une revue bibliographique des divers systèmes de gestion des chaussées connus de même que l'analyse sommaire des principaux paramètres actuels de conception, de construction, de réhabilitation, d'entretien et de gestion des réseaux routiers municipaux. Également, une analyse approfondie de (identification des critères nécessaires pour la conception d'un système de gestion de l'entretien des chaussées est présentée. De plus, une étude des techniques d'auscultation applicables pour la création des modèles de dégradation théoriques permet de démystifier l'apport des principaux indicateurs de performances des chaussées flexibles. Ce travail serf à connaître l'influence des méthodes de gestion sur les stratégies d'intervention. Il tend également à optimiser les stratégies d'intervention sur un réseau routier municipal par l'amélioration des modèles théoriques de dégradation applicables à ce type de chaussée. Finalement, la mise en place réelle des divers éléments nécessaires à un système de gestion de l'entretien des chaussées a mis en lumière les problématiques auxquelles fait face une corporation municipale lors de l'implantation d'un système de gestion des chaussées.

A new multi-energy CT for small animals is being developed at the Physics Department of the University of Bologna, Italy. The system makes use of a set of quasi-monochromatic X-ray beams, with energy tunable in a range from 26 KeV to 72 KeV. These beams are produced by Bragg diffraction on a Highly Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite crystal. With quasi-monochromatic sources it is possible to perform multi-energy investigation in a more effective way, as compared with conventional X-ray tubes. Multi-energy techniques allow extracting physical information from the materials, such as effective atomic number, mass-thickness, density, that can be used to distinguish and quantitatively characterize the irradiated tissues. The aim of the system is the investigation and the development of new pre-clinic methods for the early detection of the tumors in small animals. An innovative technique, the Triple-Energy Radiography with Contrast Medium (TER), has been successfully implemented on our system. TER consist in combining a set of three quasi-monochromatic images of an object, in order to obtain a corresponding set of three single-tissue images, which are the mass-thickness map of three reference materials. TER can be applied to the quantitative mass-thickness-map reconstruction of a contrast medium, because it is able to remove completely the signal due to other tissues (i.e. the structural background noise). The technique is very sensitive to the contrast medium and is insensitive to the superposition of different materials. The method is a good candidate to the early detection of the tumor angiogenesis in mice. In this work we describe the tomographic system, with a particular focus on the quasi-monochromatic source. Moreover the TER method is presented with some preliminary results about small animal imaging.

A qualidade da água e preservação dos ambientes aquáticos assumiu papel fundamental para a sustentabilidade, não só relacionado ao abastecimento, mas também à preservação destes ecossistemas. O uso da água, especialmente para abastecimento dos centros urbanos e irrigação na agricultura tem favorecido a tendência à diminuição das reservas de águas limpas e consequentemente a menor diluição de poluentes presentes, entre eles os pesticidas. Os pesticidas fazem parte do grupo de poluentes que podem gerar impactos significativos nos ambientes em que são inseridos, impactos dos quais alguns ainda não são totalmente conhecidos. Em função do crescente aumento da demanda por alimentos e sua consequente necessidade de se obter maior produtividade, o uso de pesticidas tem aumentado significativamente favorecendo o aumento destes impactos. Este modelo agrícola de produção é predominante em todo o mundo e resulta na presença destes poluentes nos mais diversos ambientes aquáticos, especialmente os superficiais próximos a regiões de cultivo. Neste contexto, o monitoramento destes poluentes em campo indica seu destino nos ambientes próximos à sua aplicação demonstrando mais fielmente seu comportamento neles, bem como fornece informações de referência para programas de monitoramento e avaliação de pesticidas nestes ambientes. O presente estudo avaliou amostras de água e sedimento do Rio Piquiri, localizado em uma região de alta produção de trigo, soja e milho, no estado do Paraná, Brasil. Este rio sofre influência direta da aplicação de pesticidas das lavouras da região. As amostras de água foram extraídas com uma mistura de diclorometano:hexano e as amostras de sedimento com uma mistura de acetona:hexano, tendo sido concentradas 500 vezes para as amostras de água e 25 vezes para as de sedimento. Os extratos foram analisados em LC/MS/MS e confirmaram a presença dos herbicidas e fungicidas utilizados na região do estudo conforme dados oficiais de comercialização no período das coletas. Os resultados mais expressivos nas amostras de água foram do herbicida Atrazina, 0,030 μg L-1 e do fungicida Carbendazim, 0,178 μg L-1. No sedimento os maiores valores encontrados foram para os fungicidas Carbendazim 26,8 μg L-1 e Azoxistrobina, 0,712 μg L-1, ambos na terceira coleta no ponto de coleta 3.
Water quality and conservation of aquatic environments assumed a leading condition for sustainability, not only related to the supply, but also the preservation of these ecosystems. The use of water, especially for supply to urban centers and irrigation in agriculture has favored upon the decrease of the reserves of clean water and therefore less dilution of pollutants, including pesticides. Pesticides are among the group of pollutants that can generate significant impacts on environments in which they are entered, some of which impacts are not yet fully known. Due to the growing demand for food and the consequent need to achieve greater productivity, pesticide use has increased significantly favoring the increase f these impacts. This agricultural production system is prevalent in the world and results in the presence of such pollutants in various aquatic environments, especially the surface regions, near of crop areas. In this context, monitoring of these pollutants in the field indicates its fate in the environment near its application showing more accurately its behavior in field, and provides reference information for program monitoring and evaluation of pesticides in these environments. This study examined samples of water and sediment Piquiri River, located in a region of high production of wheat, soybeans and corn in the state of Paraná, Brazil. This river is under direct influence of the application of pesticides of the region. Water samples were extracted with a mixture of dichloromethane:hexane and sediment samples with acetone:hexane and was concentrated 500 times for water and 25 times for sediment. The extracts were analyzed by LC / MS / MS and confirmed the presence of herbicides and fungicides used in the study region according to official data of the marketing period of the collections. The most impressive results in the water samples were the herbicide Atrazine, 0,030 μg L-1 and the fungicide Carbendazim, 0,178 μg L-1. In the sediment, the highest values were found for the fungicide Carbendazim, 26.8 μg L-1 and Azoxystrobin, 0.712 μg L-1, both in the third collection at the collection point 3.

Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho produtivo e econ?mico de bovinos alimentados com diferentes n?veis de ponta de cana de a??car, em substitui??o ? cana de a??car, recebendo uma dieta de alto concentrado. Dezesseis bovinos machos, n?o castrados, da ra?a Nelore, com idade m?dia de 24 ? 3 meses e peso m?dio inicial de 360 ? 14,7 kg, foram mantidos em confinamento por 84 dias, recebendo uma dieta de alto concentrado. A rela??o concentrado:volumoso foi de 80:20. Quatro n?veis de substitui??o foram avaliados: T0 = sem adi??o de ponta de cana; T33 = substitui??o de 33% da cana de a??car por ponta de cana; T66 = substitui??o de 66% da cana de a??car por ponta de cana; e T100 = substitui??o total da cana de a??car por ponta de cana. O delineamento experimental empregado foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repeti??es em cada tratamento. Um modelo linear contemplando os efeitos fixos de bloco (peso vivo inicial) e tratamento (dieta) foi usado nas an?lises. Os consumos de mat?ria seca, mat?ria org?nica, mat?ria mineral, prote?na bruta, fibra em detergente neutro, ganho de peso, convers?o alimentar e efici?ncia alimentar foram avaliados como indicadores de desempenho produtivo, e como indicadores econ?micos, a receita total, custo operacional total, custo operacional efetivo, margem bruta e margem l?quida. N?o houve efeito (P>0,05) de dieta para nenhuma das vari?veis estudadas. Os valores m?dios de ganho de peso total, ganho m?dio di?rio, convers?o e efici?ncia alimentar foram 102 ? 10,0 kg/animal, 1,2 ? 0,12 kg/dia, 8,6 ? 0,72 e 0,12 ? 0,010, respectivamente. Ao contr?rio dos demais tratamentos, a margem l?quida do T100 foi positiva, devido ao menor custo de aquisi??o da ponta de cana em rela??o ? cana de a??car. A substitui??o parcial ou total de cana de a??car por ponta de cana em dietas de alto concentrado n?o afetou o desempenho de bovinos confinados. No entanto, a inclus?o da ponta de cana diminuiu os custos de produ??o, apresentando margem l?quida positiva quando substituiu totalmente a cana de a??car. Assim, a ponta de cana pode ser utilizada pela ind?stria sucroalcooleira e por produtores artesanais de cacha?a como fonte de volumoso de baixo custo na alimenta??o de bovinos de corte.

ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the productive and economic performances of beef bulls fed different levels of sugarcane tops, as a substitute of sugarcane, provided with a high-concentrate diet. Sixteen Nellore bulls, with average age of 24 ? 3 months and initial weight of 360 ? 14.7 kg, were kept in a feedlot for 84 days, receiving a high-concentrate diet. The concentrate:roughage ratio was 80:20. Four levels of substitution were evaluated: T0 = no addition of sugarcane tops; T33 = 33% substitution of sugarcane by sugarcane tops; T66 = 66% substitution of sugarcane by sugarcane tops; and T100 = total substitution of sugarcane by sugarcane tops. The experimental design was a randomized block with four replications for each treatment. A linear model considering fixed effects as block (initial weight) and treatment (diet) was utilized in analyzes. Dry matter, organic matter, mineral matter, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber intake, body weight gain, feed conversion and feed efficiency were evaluated as productive performance parameters, and as economic indicators, total revenue, total operating expenses, gross margin, and net margin. No effect (P>0.05) of diet was found for the studied variables. Average values of total body weight gain, average daily gain, feed conversion, and feed efficiency were 102 ? 10.0 kg/animal, 1.2 ? 0.12 kg/day, 8.6 ? 0.72 and 0.12 ? 0.010, respectively. Unlike other treatments, the T100 net margin was positive, due to the lower cost of acquiring sugarcane tops compared with sugarcane. Partial or total substitution of sugarcane by sugarcane tops in high-concentrate diets did not affect performance of feedlot bulls. However, the inclusion of sugarcane tops reduced production costs, with positive net margin when totally substituting sugarcane. Therefore, sugarcane tops can be utilized by the ethanol industry and producers of handicraft sugarcane-rum as a low-cost roughage source in diets for beef bulls.

Problema: O objeto deste estudo apresenta-se pelas evidências científicas para a prevenção de Infecção Primária de Corrente Sanguínea (IPCS) em pacientes em uso do Cateter Venoso Central (CVC). A IPCS representa um dos principais problemas da assistência à saúde, com consequente impacto na morbidade e mortalidade dos pacientes, principalmente, daqueles que em decorrência da gravidade de sua doença, necessitam de um CVC. Muito se tem discutido, recentemente, acerca da segurança do paciente e reavaliar as práticas assistenciais prestadas com a utilização de um conjunto de boas práticas denominado "bundles", é uma orientação para redução dessas infecções. Objetivos: Construir um bundle para prevenção de Infecção Primária de Corrente Sanguínea (IPCS) no manuseio do Cateter Venoso Central (CVC). Descrever as evidências científicas para prevenção de IPCS em pacientes em uso do CVC estabelecendo padrões para as ações de enfermagem referente à prevenção dessas infecções. Elaborar critérios de avaliação das ações de enfermagem com vistas à prevenção de IPCS em pacientes em uso do CVC. Método: Pesquisa Baseada em Evidência (PBE) com a utilização de diretrizes nacional e internacional. Resultados e Discussão: Em virtude da necessidade de prevenção e controle das IRAS (Infecções Relacionadas à Assistência à Saúde), podem-se considerar as diretrizes que abordam este tema como guia para a prática de um cuidado seguro para os pacientes uma vez que estas concentram na descrição das ações de prevenção o melhor nível de evidência disponível e de forma atualizada. Especificamente sobre a IPCS em pacientes em uso do CVC, salienta-se a importância das ações de prevenção serem praticadas em conjunto e ao mesmo tempo serem passíveis de avaliação com o objetivo de repensar o cuidado dispensado aos pacientes e educar a equipe de enfermagem para melhores práticas assistenciais. Dentro deste contexto a construção do bundle para manuseio do CVC apresenta-se como objeto e para construí-lo foram examinadas as diretrizes para prevenção de IPCS em pacientes em uso do CVC e redefinidas as ações de enfermagem para uma adequação à realidade que se pretende intervir. Por conseguinte, foram estabelecidos os padrões de cuidado para que assim fossem elaborados os critérios de avaliação para as ações de enfermagem que compõem o bundle. É possível, dessa maneira, visualizar o bundle como um instrumento para orientação, avaliação e melhoria do cuidado referente às ações como a higienização das mãos antes e após o manuseio do CVC e do sistema de infusão, uso de luvas não estéreis e desinfecção das conexões antes de serem acessadas, troca do sistema de infusão no tempo adequado com identificação da data, troca correta do curativo do sítio de inserção do CVC e documentação da avaliação diária do sítio de inserção do CVC. Considerações Finais: Pode-se afirmar que a melhor evidência científica para atuar na prevenção da IPCS em pacientes em uso do CVC se encontram nas diretrizes do Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Entretanto, não é possível desconsiderar as diretrizes da Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (ANVISA) uma vez que dados da realidade do Brasil junto à realidade de um serviço específico são fatores determinantes para o sucesso de uma estratégia de melhoria. Contribuir para que os Enfermeiros e Técnicos de Enfermagem que atuam em UTI de adultos permaneçam familiarizados com as evidências científicas para prevenção de IPCS em pacientes em uso do CVC e se comprometam em executar estas ações é uma das formas de envolver os recursos humanos no propósito de modificar uma realidade e contribuir para uma assistência de enfermagem mais uniforme no que diz respeito à teoria e prática. Significa entender a importância da enfermagem para a prevenção e controle de infecções e incentivar a busca por novos conhecimentos. Entende-se que, mostrar para esses profissionais como se apresenta a prática do cuidado da equipe de enfermagem é um aspecto decisivo para repensar a prática e encontrar um caminho em busca da segurança do paciente.
Problem: The object of this study presents the scientific evidences for the prevention of primary bloodstream infections in patients using central venous catheter (CVC). The IPCS is a major problem in health care, with consequent impact on morbidity and mortality of patients, mainly for those needs a CVC due the severity of their condition. Recently, much has been discussed about the safety of the patient and to reassess the care practices provided using a set of best practices called "bundles" is an orientation to reducing these infections. Aims: Build a Bundle for prevention of IPCS in handling CVC. Describe the scientific evidences for the prevention of IPCS in patients using CVC establishing standards for nursing actions related to the prevention of these infections. Develop evaluation criteria of nursing actions aimed at preventing IPCS in patients using CVC. Method: Evidence-Based Research (EBR) with the use of national and international guidelines. Results and Discussion: Because of the need for prevention and control of Prevent Health Care-Associated Infections (HAIs), the guidelines that address this issue may be considered as a guide to safe care practice for patients, since on description of prevention they focus the best level of evidence available and updated form. Specifically on the IPCS in patients using CVC emphasizes the importance of prevention being practiced together while being assessable in order to rethink the care given to patients and educating nursing staff for best assistance practices. Within this context, the construction of the bundle for handling the CVC presents itself as an object and to build it were examined IPCS guidelines for prevention in patients using CVC and nursing actions were redefined for adaptation to the reality that if you want to intervene. Subsequently were established the patterns of care for after develop evaluation criteria for nursing actions that make up the bundle. Thus, it’s possible to view the bundle as a tool for guidance, evaluation and improvement of care relating to actions such as washing hands before and after handling the CVC and the infusion system, use of non-sterile gloves and disinfecting of the connections before to access them, exchange of the infusion system at the appropriate time with identify the date, correctly replacement of the bandage of the insertion site of CVC and documentation of the daily assessment of the site of insertion of the CVC. Final Thoughts: It can be argued that the best scientific evidences for the early prevention of IPCS in patients using CVC are the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, it is not possible to disregard the guidelines of the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA, in Portuguese), since data from the reality of Brazil and the reality of a particular service are crucial to the success of an improvement strategy. Contribute to the nurses and nursing technicians who work in the adult ICU remain familiar with the scientific evidence for the prevention of IPCS in patients using CVC and commit themselves to perform these actions is one way to involve human resources in order to modifying a reality and contribute to a more uniform nursing assistance regarding the theory and practice. Means understanding the importance of nursing for the prevention and control of infections and encourage the search for new knowledge. It is understood that, to show for these professionals as the care practice of the nursing staff presents is a critical aspect to rethink the practice and find a path in search of the patient safety.

Due to heavy nutrient load and adverse climate change the occurrence of toxic cyanobacterial blooms have significantly increased during the last decades. Nodularia spumigena is one of the dominant toxic cyanobacteria which produces massive and inherent blooms in brackish water body, the Baltic Sea, particularly in late summer. Nodularia spp. are known to produce nodularins (NOD) and a range of other bioactive peptides such as spumigins and nodulopeptins, all of which have unclear function. In a recent study, three new nodulopeptins with molecular weight of 899, 901 and 917 were characterised from N. spumigena KAC 66. In the present study, N. spumigena KAC 66 was fractionated by reversed phase flash chromatography and their toxicity was determined by their lethality to Daphnia pulex and D. magna along with inhibition of protein phosphatase 1 assay (PP1). All fractions showed lethality to Daphnids and inhibitory activity against PP1, the toxicity was due to additional compounds as NOD and nodulopeptin 901 were only detected in 7 fractions. Pure NOD was lethal to D. pulex and D. magna LC50= 8.4 μg/mL and 5.0 μg/mL, respectively. The newly characterised nodulopeptin 901 was also tested against D. magna (LC50=>100 μg/mL). NOD and nodulopeptin 901 inhibited PP1 with IC50 0.038 μg/mL and 25 μg/mL, respectively. In common with many studies, the maximum amount of NOD was retained within the cells during the seven week growth experiment. In contrast, as much as ~50% of nodulopeptin 901 was detected in the growth media throughout the duration of experiments. To gain further insight on the effects of environmental stress on growth and production of bioactive metabolites in N. spumigena KAC 66, a range of parameters were investigated which included; temperature, salinity, nitrate and phosphorus. In the present study it was investigated that extreme growth conditions have a considerable effect on biomass and toxin levels by N. spumigena KAC 66. The light intensity ranged from 17.35-17.47 μmol/s/m2, 22°C and 11-20 ‰ of salinity were the optimal growth conditions to obtain maximum biomasses, intra and extracellular peptide contents. At 6.5 mg/L nitrate the maximum growth, as indicated by Chl-a and maximum concentrations of intracellular NOD and nodulopeptin 901 were detected found in week 5 and 4, respectively. Temperature had the greatest effect on peptide production. Whilst growth was similar at 22°C, 25°C and 30°C, increase in temperature had a profound effect on NOD production in that an increase from 22°C to 25°C resulted in a 50% decrease in intracellular NOD levels. At 30°C little or no NOD was detected. In contrast, whilst concentrations of nodulopeptin 901 decreased with increasing temperature, they were still detected at consistent levels suggesting they play an important role. The results from phosphate experiment showed Chl-a, cell biomass and peptide production did not show clear dependency on availability of PO-3 4. This is the first study to evaluate the effects of selected environmental parameters on NOD/nodulopeptin 901 production which ultimately may be helpful to explain the distribution, control of natural blooms and toxin levels of N. spumigena in the Baltic Sea and as well as laboratory based experiments. In an attempt further exploit cyanobacterial diversity, 20 strains were isolated from the Dian Lake and 6 from the Dead Sea. The UPLC-PDA-MS analysis of isolates, Microcystis spp. from Dian Lake, China indicated the presence of several peptides namely MC-LR, cyanopeptolin A and aerucyclamides A-D. These new isolates will be examined for biological activity and chemical characterisation in future studies.

Au-delà de la simple reconnaissance d'une activité artistique, la croyance en l'art participe à la compréhension de l'art, de sa représentation et de la représentation de sa fonction. Cette croyance artistique est muable et réagit aux différentes approches artistiques qui lui sont soumises alors qu'elle se divise aussi en diverses expectatives. Ainsi, il n'est pas étonnant que, dans le contexte de crise relatif à l'émergence de l'art contemporain et de la récupération des problématiques duchampiennes, la croyance en l'art soit appelée à se transformer. En fait, dès Duchamp, le milieu artistique a dû se réajuster face à un nouveau modèle artistique. Le bouleversement engendré par les procédures duchampiennes de la distribution des rôles au sein du système artistique a façonné un nouvel univers de représentation de l'art et de sa fonction. L'activité et la structure de ce nouveau système affectent la croyance en l'art et sa portée subversive en modifiant justement le rapport de celle-ci à l'esthétique, l'histoire de l'art et l'artiste, c'est-à-dire son principal, et sûrement dernier, croyant. La position particulière de l'artiste, telle qu'étudiée dans les cas des artistes Gavin Turk, des QQistes et de Marc-Antoine K. Phaneuf, au sein du système artistique contemporain comporte une promesse de survie pour la croyance subversive. Cependant, il n'accomplit pas son engagement face à la croyance telle qu'elle sera approfondie dans la présente recherche, au contraire, il la déçoit en utilisant sa pratique artistique au profit de la reconnaissance de son individualité. Single crystal metal sulfides of ZnS, CdS, and FeS[2] were bombarded with a 3 keV Ar[+] beam. The secondary neutrals sputtered from the suface of the target were interrogated by laser ionization mass spectrometry and laser fluorescence spectroscopy. The velocity distribution and yield of sputtered Fe from a FeS[2] sample were measured. The velocity distribution of Fe sputtered from the sulfide is qualitatively the same as that of Fe sputtered from the pure metal. The yield of Fe from the sulfide target, after prolonged bombardment, was at most 20% of the yield from the metal. The results are compared with Monte Carlo calculations using the TRIM (transfer of ion in matter) code. Total sputtering yields of ZnS, CdS, and FeS[2] were measured by profilometry and were compared with the same measurements of sputtered metal targets. We have demonstrated the necessity of measuring sputtered molecules and excited state neutrals for accurate yield evaluation. The population distribution of ground state multiplets of sputtered Fe from FeS[2] is compared with that measured from an Fe target. The excited state population of sputtered Fe is slightly higher in the FeS[2] target (~10%). Molecular yields have also been measured by laser ionization mass spectrometry from ZnS, CdS, and FeS[2]. S is sputtered predominantly as S[2] from all three crystals. Metals are sputtered as the atom, metal sulfide, and metal dimer (except in the case of Fe[2]). The yield of the metal sulfidemolecules is about 10% of the yield of the metal. Plausible formation mechanisms of molecules and excited state neutrals are discussed

A Ti:sapphire hollow-tube laser has been pumped with annular plasma emission from a hypocycloidal pinch-plasma (HCP).1 The plasma color temperature was approximately 1 eV. The hollow of the Ti:sapphire tube was filled with dye solution for spectrum conversion2 from the near-uv to 490-nm pump band of Ti laser. These new ideas for improving the laser pumping efficiency were experimentally demonstrated. The operating conditions of the HCP were the following: The input electrical energy to HCP was 3.57 kJ, argon fill gas pressure 90 Torr, and Coumarin 503 dye as the spectrum converter. The pump pulse had a halfwidth of 13µs and a rise time of 2µs. The dimensions of the laser cavity were cavity length 295 mm, gain length 150 mm. Ti:sapphire crystal was in a hollow tube 150 mm long, its outer diameter 10 mm with a wall thickness of 3 mm, leaving a 4-mm diameter hole inside (Fig. 1). The untuned laser output was ≈ 45 mJ at λc =841 ± 4 nm and its temporal halfwidth was 0.35µs. Figure 2 compares the laser output with an without the internal spectrum converter solution as a function of the reflectance of the output coupler.

A crystal of Na3Li3Ga2F12:Cr 4.5-mm thick was pumped with a krypton-ion laser operating at 647 nm. The sample was pumped longitudinally in a nearly concentric cavity and exhibited free lasing at 791 nm. With a birefringent element in the cavity, the material tuned continuously from 741 to 841 nm. A slope efficiency of 14.5% was measured with 4.5% output coupling. Experiments using a modified Findlay-Clay1 technique indicated relatively low resonator loss levels of the order of 0.5% for wavelengths ranging from 780 to 820 nm. However, the measured gain was several times smaller than might be expected. At 790 nm the measured round-trip resonator gain per unit absorbed pump power was 3.5% W-1. This was nearly a factor of 3 lower than the gain estimated using the cross section for stimulated emission based on the (assumed) purely radiative room temperature fluorescence lifetime of 330 μs. Possible causes for the gain reduction include nonradiative losses and excited state absorption.
